Pathetic! I can NOT believe that a broadcast network couldn’t be bothered to air an Emmy show. How craptastic is that?!?
Just shows how the networks don’t give a shit about daytime!

If DAYS dies, NBC will be dead to me!

What does this have to do with Days?

I only wanted to see Sharon case win

Keep wanting or watch your 1999 Emmys tape.

I’m glad it was broadcasted last year on TV BUT the show was horrible!

how the mighty have fallen… from an evening of glamour to an evening of “why does this keep buffering? i said “RELOAD”, you stupid *ç%&!”

As long as we don’t have to suffer through two hours of Robin Meade pushing her new CD, I’m good.

There better not be any problems with the streaming!

This news sucks, daytime soaps will all be gone in 5 years or so. We might as well enjoy our soaps for now.

They won’t be gone, but they will be hour long commercials instead. Today it is Nathan and Maxine singing the praises of Yoplait yogurt at the Nurses Ball or Abigail and Paige discussing Midol, like they did this week on Days, but mark by words, bit by bit, daytime soaps will evolved into hour long ads for everything and anything under the sun.

As a longtime soap fan I am appalled and amazed that the creative people behind the scenes will allowed beloved characters to be nothing more than corporate shells. So actually I hope your prediction will be correct and soaps will end in 5 years because I rather seen the genre gone than see them turn into advertisement–

Product placement is one thing, but actually having characters sell product in the story that is below the belt. So yes, let’s enjoy the soaps now before they are forever changed into commercials and forget the Emmys, soon they will be eligible for whatever awards the ad industry has.

Bulllsh*t. The actors and everyone on all shows deserve more than an online simulcast. Do they also not count those unable to live stream it on the date of the event, and those who want to still see it? They should’ve let TV Guide air it like they wanted to. Soaps have fought back in 2014, and you’re going to give them another kick down? A big f**k you to the fans, actors, crew, etc.

Yes, this is great. Looking forward to watching online.

The daytime emmys used to be exciting in the 70s to the 90s but not so much in recent years so ill just wait to read about the winners when they are posted here.

Its sad..It just seem inevitable that it really is close to being an end of an era..But we still have 4 soaps on the air, like them or not, so there is still hope that ratings will rise further and hopefully a rebirth of some kind will happen. New soap on the internet or even cable tv (like the Have and have nots) or more revivals much like prospect park tried to do.

The soaps are not dying!
they are being smothered on Daytime TV, nobody is home during the daytime work hours in this area to watch daytime Tv..
Daytime is dying and the soaps need to move to evening TV on any network that will take them..
IF the soaps were to air during the evening there would be a great improvement..
The soaps will go down with sinking ship named ‘Daytime TV..

I agree! If the primetime shows were on in the daytime, they would die too!

The soaps in the 70’s to 90’s people were still working and the soaps continually moved forward with no problems.. In fact I recorded the soaps when I was working .. I never missed them just because I was working… People were always working when the soaps have been on daytime.. They did well in spite of this.. They prevailed….

@Omar I agree with most of what you’ve posted. I would much rather refer to #Dallas than #The Have’s and The Have Not’s. This show is clearly written by someone(@TylerPerry) who enjoys the genre but has NO IDEA whatsoever of how to execute a soap, even on a tight budget. After season one this man should have relinquished the reigns a bit and hired other writers and staff to present a better show. He’s like @Barbara Streisand who #SNL poked fun at when she did YENTL. I wrote it,I produced it, I directed it, I starred in it. i.e. that OWN show is NOT a great argument for expanding the drama. As far as what this post is truly about..It’s a sad sad time when the big three have at least one show on…tout it to the heavens…and couldn’t care less about supporting the people who make the show’s possible on a daily basis. CBS loves to toot their own neilsen horn until it comes to acknowledging the genre that fueled tv and still keeps their network number one across the board. I’ll watch them, and take them for what they’ll be. A bunch of people in a room with webcams being rushed through a ceremony that executives think we couldn’t give a crap about.

Lol. That Have’s and Have Nots is a really BAD show isn’t it?? Lol. But from what I understand it is a hit of some sort. Or, as much of a hit as OWN has been able to put on thus far. There had to be something other day andthan running the Shania Twain story every day for 6 months. And I’m Canadian…I like Shania! Have’s and Have Not’s reminds me of those really cheesy soap parodies done in movies. It looks cheap…the writing is atrocious… The acting is over the top…Oh wait…I just described soaps!!! My bad!

As maligned and insulted as Prospect Park has been…I have nothing but respect for what they attempted to do. They were tenacious and never did give up until they got those two shows back on the air. They found out the very hard way how much money was needed to do these shows in the manner to which we had been accustomed, and that was probably their only mistake….they tried to be too much like the network soaps were on the internet. They hired the same old hack writers who have been doing soaps ONE way for 40 years or more! When trying to break new ground , it is not the best idea to hire writers in their 70’s and 80’s. There are people like me…in their 30’s and 40’s who grew up watching and loving soaps…but who never wrote for them so they never got pigeon holed into writing in the hackneyed and clichéd style that every writer from Jean Passanante to Gary Tomlin to Lorraine Broderick writes in. Characters talking to themselves, back from the dead, who’s the daddy, stagnating characters who never change…etc etc etc. But as a production entity, Prospect Park had the best of intentions and tried to put together crews with soap know how and hire vets along with new comers. They do not deserve the vitriol that has been spewed at them since the demise of AMC and OLTL. They did what no one else would…not ABC…not Oprah…not Lifetime…no one would. They did, and should be applauded and thanked for their attempts.

I am very grateful to Prospect Park.

Well said Johnny..Although PP handle the ending poorly and it did not officially pulli the plug on both shows (maybe something will be worked out) , they need to be commended for an outstanding effort with something so innovative..Kudos to PP for the courage.

Who really needs to watch after GH totally got snubbed this year?

I’m not a GH viewer. However, I don’t like when any soaps are snubbed. It would still be nice to have a grand event with all the bells and whistles and as many people watching as possible. The soaps need the exposure, regretfully, this is a step backward. If the Emmys recover, I hope the nominations are equally distributed, along with the Daytime Emmys.

We are living among many soap opera snobs. When my soap dies, I will not support any other TV program!!!

The fans of the other three soaps; but it shows that GH needs to step it up in their writing team to put out more award-worthy material as a collective whole.

GH didn’t get totally snubbed Mika. They got 8 acting noms and several more technical nominations.

And 4ever Days- It’s an awards show to honor the best of the best. It’s not about making sure everyone gets their fair share. There are 6 acting categories with 4 nominations each for 24 total slots. GH got 8, more than their share, so which 2 should they return so every gets a fair share? And what about the online versions of AMC and OLTL that were almost completely shut out? Add them in and each show is only entitled to 4 noms. See the problem?

The Daytime Emmys have not been reduced to streaming because every show doesn’t have it’s fair share of noms. It’s because as the number of soaps and the size of their audiences have dwindled so has the audience needed to support airing the show on network TV or, sadly, even on cable.

Soaps are a dying genre. That’s sad to me as a lifelong viewer but it’s the reality.

WOULD RATHER HAVE IT ON THE TV. I LOVE WATCHING THE EMMY’S, ESPECIALLY WHEN GH PEOPLE ARE THERE. WHY ISN’T GH NOMINATED FOR BEST SOAP? EVERY YEAR I WANT TO STRANGLE AFEW PEOPLE. I’VE BEEN WATCHING GH FROM THEIR BEGINNINGS. BUT, I STILL WANT TO SEE OUR PEOPLE FROM GH BE NOMINATED TOO, AS OUR CAST IS FANTASTIC AND THE STORYLINES ARE OUT OF THIS WORLD. THAT;S ALL FOR NOW, I’LL BE COMMENTING WHEN THE EMMY’S ARE ON AND AFTER THE FACT ALSO.

The only way I can watch television shows is on my iDevice, so I hope this will work.

This is such BULLSHIT!!!! NOT EVERYBODY HAS INTERNET ACCESS!!!!! THIS IS WHAT NETWORK & CABLE THINK OF DAYTIME TV!!!! IF THERE WAS NO DAYTIME TV THERE WOULD B NO NIGHTIME TV!!!! OPRAH HAS HER OWN NETWORK & SHE COULD’VE AIRED THEM ON HER NETWORK!!!!:(:(:(

Well not everyone has cable either. So no matter how they do it,someone will lose out. I personally watch everything online so I’m happy. People really need to get into the 21st century. I mean who doesn’t have internet access these days?

SPOKEN LIKE A TRUE ‘LET THEM EAT CAKE’ IDIOT. DARE I SAY THAT YOU PROBABLY HAVE AN EXTREMELY LOW IQ TO MATCH!!!

It’s not convenient to watch online. Rewinding & Fast Forwarding sucks. Like my TiVo!! Only watch internet when I have too and the FIXED Emmys won’t warrant me to bother with it. VERY SAD

With all due respect Dale…yes everyone does have internet access. You can go to the library, an internet cafe, a cell phone, an I Device, a friend’s house, a relative’s house….those are just a few of the ways if you don’t have home internet access. Anyone who is saying they have NO way to access the internet is just flat out lazy or lying. I watch Days and GH every night on my android cell phone on YouTube. Not on t.v. because I work during the day. There are no commercials….they are 35 minutes each…so in an hour and 10 minutes I have finished what would take 2 hours on regular t.v. Yes its a shame that no network will air this show designed to honour these shows that air on these networks… It is short sighted and hypocritical and absurd really…I can say with 101% certainty that if ONE of these networks preempted 2 hours of their afternoon line-up…once a year..to air the Emmy’s I can also guarantee they would garner bigger ratings than Family Feud reruns or whatever other lame show happens to be on in the 2-4 time slot.

Well said! It always amazes me that some say they don’t have internet access but yet they are here on the board posting away. Lol.

Lolol @ Reed. I NEVER even thought of that Reed! You are a wise man!

Streaming is the new thing anyway, so good for the Emmys 🙂 I will definitely tune in!

I knew it!!
Not one, not one, network wanted the Daytime emmies, they don’t want waste their time and money on them..
Most all things for daytime tv have become terrible with the exception of the 4 soaps..
I am a firm believer if the soaps were to air during the evening on network TV, the would take off!!

—– It is not the soaps that are dying, it is Daytime TV ..
and the soaps will sink along with daytime tv..

It is the soaps. If a show is on and it’s DAYTIME…it’s daytime TV. It’s DAYTIME TV DRAMA’S that are in peril.

The US soaps do really well on primetime TV overseas. What’s wrong with airing the soaps on the networks during repeat seasons? I think DAYS would do great at 9::00 pm on NBC. We’ll never know it if they don’t show it!

If there was money to be made, they would be on Sunday night on network TV. Its a business. Daytime TV is dead! Not the soaps as much as talk and game shows. Case in point. Jeopardy and Wheel started in daytime. When they discovered that they would sell in syndication for large amounts of money due to their popularity and ad revenues, they are shown at night.

What a terrible slap in the face for a segment of the television industry that has generated millions of dollars for the networks. All the broadcast network executives should hang their heads in shame.

The last couple of years it seem to be about everything but the soaps. I know it’s daytime but I watched for the soap actors not the talk show people. Nothing against them there just wasn’t enough soap opera content.

I was looking forward to watching it on TV, as always.
This is SO disappointng!
I don’t even know if I will be able to watch it live streamed
on my ipad.

Use your iPad to click on the link in the description of this story. I’m on a tablet. The message I receive is “Thanks for visiting! This site will be available soon!”

I suppose I’ll be able to view the Emmys because I’m able to see the message. You should too. Have you tried?

Thank you! I just clicked on that and saw the same message you described.
Hope that means it will work for viewing the Emmys, too, yay!

Its that simple. It takes people who are used to TV to adapt but once you realize that the old ways of TV are never coming back, you will embrace the internet and its simplicity.

Makes me sad to see that none of the networks would run the emmys but I’ll still watch the live stream.

21st century. Remember when people watched TV on Fridays and Saturdays? No network would ever try and put a blockbuster on either of these nights anymore.

Daytime was always considered the poor cousin to prime time for networks, and truth be told the numbers have fallen for the prime time Emmy awards as well. The fact the soaps were so popular for so many years was the only reason they ever aired the daytime Emmy awards to begin with. But the Emmy awards for news programming and many of the technical awards are never aired so Daytime has fallen into that group now.

It is sad, but in the end these awards were meant to be industry awards for those within that industry, and hopefuly not being aired doesn’t diminish the award for those who receive it. And honestly I rather not watch at all than watch the farce that I saw last year on HLN. So I look forward to wonderful coverage of the event from soap sites the day after

I’m happy they’re going to be airing somewhere. Too bad TPTB at the Emmys wanted to hold out for more $$ instead of taking TVGN’s offer to air it, but would it have been worth it? Even if TVGN were given the chance, they would have mere weeks to put it together and we’ve seen what lack of preparation can do with HLN.

Daytime TV is like an antique.. It is old, very old..
there is Netflix, Internet series, Cable, TV on cell phone and the modern list goes on..
It is new a word, different lifestyles, higher technology..
Daytime TV is on a respirator…

The soaps are great and can go on..
IF they move to evening TV and run not walk away from the Dying daytime TV..

Daytime TV is on death row and that puts our soaps on death row..

CBS moved their 2 soaps to cable, they see the fall of daytime coming and they are taking care of business by putting their soaps on cable, evening cable ..

Daytime isn’t dying it is evolving. Shows like the Talk, Live with Kelly and Michael even the Chew have all posted gains recently. There is an audience they just aren’t watching soaps in the numbers they used to.

The soaps have come up in the ratings but not enough to justify their budgets for the networks. The exceptions being B&B and Y&R which both air overseas and earn extra revenue that way.

The Lifestyle shows that are here( and still coming) are cheaper to produce and can therefore can earn a larger profit.

Yes the ratings are up for soaps but no soap is going to hit 6 million total viewers again or have 2 million in the 18-49 category again. If a soap had that high of a number then I wouldn’t still be worried for the genre. Sadly I still see at least one more soap gone before 2018.

But do you think the Big 3 networks will move these dramas to prime-time? Do you think they’re ready to change the daytime landscape? We’ve already seen what happened when ABC cancelled OLTL and AMC. Failed talk shows. Somehow they believe all people want is talk shows or lifestyle shows. This fan works all day and doesn’t DVR talk shows.

They should just have a SOAP TV internet website where all four soaps air, run reruns, and soap reality content. TV is dead! I know the Soap Opera Network died but that was never really done right. It was more so repeats and classic nighttime soaps reran. SOAP TV would be original programming and they wouldnt have to kiss networks asses. Imagine if you were watching Y&R and Victor yelled at Ian and said “Get the F… out of my office and if you ever go anywhere near my family again I will kick your F….ing ass!”

Prospect Park tried that,Timmm, with the AMC/OLTL reboots and it pissed off the so called “fans” of the shows. So the adult language was removed and the shows went back to thier old cookie cutter,FCC friendly ways. Even though the eps were online. I enjoyed them, even if they were neutered. Thank God for online shows like “Venice” and “The Bay”. That’s the future right there.

The big 3 won’t move the shows into primetime. That is out of the question there is no money in the current production model for the networks. They would have to cut the cast in half and air the show once a week, improve the writing drastically and the production values.

As for the shows that replaced OLTL and AMC, the Chew is actually successful. And the fact that ABC is trying again with Tyra, means that they are not giving up until they can find a lifestyle show that will eventually replace GH.

I did not say ”prime time” I said evening..
there are many networks that are not FX or ABC that soaps could go to and be run after 9pm or at any time, actually…
SoapNet was a cable network and ran soaps 7/24..
Y&R and B&B are now on cable and run during the evening..
I did not say prime time or on the highly popular networks. 🙂

Oh. I see what you are saying. I know the Hallmark Channel has a lot of movies that feature daytime stars, however the current production model for soaps may not be feasible for them. Same with Lifetime but they seem to be doing well with their own dramas.
The evening idea really can’t happen because the hours between 3pm and 8 (with the exception of the news) belong to the affiliates and they won’t be giving those times back. If you are talking about syndication and selling them that way. Then there is an issue with ratings. Repeats of shows like Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men because their ratings are higher than soap ratings. So you would have to find a way to make it worthwhile for affiliates to carry them.

Not trying to be a party pooper, but there are a certain realities that need to come to mind when it comes to soaps. As I stated in another post the one way to make soaps viable on networks again is to find fresh blood who are willing to break the rules and reinvent the wheel in terms of writing and production. Repeating the same old ideas are how we got here with only 4 soaps left.

Mean Mean Mean!!!

I am so happy I was able to attend the Daytime Emmy Awards in 2001 at Radio City Music Hall as a special guest of the editorial staff at Soap Opera Weekly Magazine. That was back when the Emmy’s still meant something. When we still had 10 soaps on the air. When nominees were for the most part chosen on talent…not just because they have to fill up the categories somehow. It was a night of some surreal and hilarious and poignant moments for me. I met the late Benjamin Hendrickson outside the auditorium and had a smoke with him. I walked in on the red carpet. I saw a very inebriated Josh Duhamel mistakenly walk into the women’s washroom and turn around and walk out laughing. The late John Ritter bumped into me and apologized. And the list of memorable moments goes on and on. Awards shows of all kinds kind of were never the same for me to watch on television after being at one and being in the same VIP section as the actors. Television or internet…we get to watch it either way. All it really is is an opportunity for these people to get dolled up, drink, and celebrate their industry. Having an Emmy doesn’t mean a hill of beans in terms of taking a career to another level. Just ask Tony Geary or Erika Slezak or Justin Dead or Peter Bergman etc etc. It is a nice acknowledgement from peers just like it is being voted on the Student Council in high school. It is not the be all and the end all. And any network who aired this show rarely got it right. It was never about the people in daytime…there was always some other agenda this show existed to push. So we won’t have to sit through cheesy musical numbers and all the rest of it. I long for the good old days too but those are long gone.

Those were the good ‘ole days! I went to 3 daytime emmy award shows at Radio City and I loved it! Especially the first time seeing all my favorites up close! That’s when soaps were respected and recognized as an important part of television. I have loads and loads of pictures of so many of the stars and will cherish them forever! My friend and I bumped into Tony Geary aT the 2005 Emmys at Radio City and I was so in awe that I couldn’t even say “hi”!! He just smiled and kept on walking…Hilarious!! but those days are gone….I was even wondering why they can’t accommodate the east coast viewers with fan club parties for the west coast soaps that we watch! That would be WONDERFUL! Oh well…..it is what it is

I’ll just wait for the list of winners, thanks.

The steaming broadcast is a nice courtesy to the nominees and their families and friends but I can’t see too many other people bothering to watch.

I personally don’t want to sit glued to a computer screen or other mobile device to watch an overload of ad and a bunch of other content I really have no interest in (game shows, talk shows, kiddie shows etc) with no ability to FF thru those things.

Let’s hope the producers at least had/have the good sense to eliminate schlocky production numbers, comic routines and other silliness. I might consider watching if they actually ran short clips of the nominated performances like in the olden days but there’s nothing said about that so I won’t be tuning in.

Streaming may be the way of the future but there’s nothing inherently cooler about it in and of itself. It’s actually more of an inconvenience at least for me. NATAS could probably do a better job of promoting what sort of show we’ll actually see (again, production numbers? clips? interviews? tributes? just straight awards? what???) rather than just tell us that IT’S STREAMING!! You can watch it on your phone or IPad!!

I am sorry I really disagree with your premise of putting daytime drama against the current crop of primetime dramas.

Production wise and sadly in some cases talent wise a soap cant go up against shows like Mad Men, Fargo, The Good Wife, Game of Thrones or even Scandal. There is reason most critics call primetime the second golden age of television. These are shows that break the rules.

As for daytime if Judge Judy can bring in 10 million a day then the audience is there. Forsoaps to get any more rrespect there needs to be a soap that breaks the rules. Relying on the same tropes is what got soaps in the state they are now.

Fan & Faved!! Soaps need to branch out and get away from the expectation of ‘dysfunction’ being the only measure of an actor or s/l. Not all stories have to be cheating, WTDs, scheming with no real goal. Why not show committed, strong characters mixed in?

Soaps have sadly become reality tv.

Excellent point Nicole!!!

Love GH. Always will, snubbing it and awards on t v big mistake, not watching it.

Won’t even bother watching. Not to mention GH was TOTALLY ROBBED!!! Sad that the networks screw there fans!!! Will watch for results to be posted. SO SAD

The Daytime Emmys had already lost all credability with me this year anyway after the best soap, no scratch that, the best TV show on the air General Hospital was not nominated for Outstanding daytime drama and the crappy online version of One Life To Live was, add to that that both CBS soaps which are at all time low’s got dozens of nominations and now this, what a joke. I won’t even bother to watch this year.

This is sad for those that do not use computers… and enjoyed watching on TV.
We will soon hear that soaps will be gone on all the channels… just wait and see!

Those without a computer or a pad would be in the minority.

Forgot to add…. Will it be closed captioned for deafies like me?

It’s a shame.

Good news/bad news, right? I cannot understand why the Daytime Emmy Awards are so maligned. Even with questions about how they are doled out or the curious categories, it is good to have a forum to recognize excellence. The broadcast webs and cablers benefit from their daytime programming and the syndicated fare they run so I am unsure why a major entity cannot invest in this presentation… and do it right. yes, maybe is should be a daytime event, but let’s give this daypart and its programming some cred, please.

Junk.

Should’ve been on TVGN.

I know thats a strange one. They show other soap content and they do not have a long list of original programming. I guess to them its a big project for them to take on and lets face it, the TV broadcast last year looked like it was done by an eighth grade film class! who wants to put their name on something if they cannot do it right?

You know, soaps get a bad rap for being a dying breed but being on the internet in other forms of entertainment would be seen as a progressive move. Example: Jerry Seinfeld has a web series on the internet that is very successful. People credit him with being innovative and taking a risk. Soaps, they say well who the hell would watch this on TV, we’ll dump it on the internet. The internet is so popular now. People stream tons of entertainment onto their phones and tablets. I think the Daytime Emmys will relish on the internet and will be their permanent home. Lets be grateful that it is being broadcasted somewhere AND maybe now since its not on TV they will actually show all the Emmy reels the actors presented for nominations.

I HATE how the news reports this that it’s the lack of interest of soaps that has caused it. Y&R
has better ratings than most of the crap on prime time. How many new prime time shows were canceled this year, it was a bloodbath. But the soaps are “dying”. Gimme a break.

WHY??? So stupid. K, I understand that were not back in the day anymore and life IS online 90% of the time but… That’s kinda sad. I’m noot a techie’ so maybe its just me but I like the idea oof seeing it on a big screen without wasting or jepordizing my computer possibly having it freeze. Especially since most soap fans are probably older and might appreciate leaving well enough alone. If they’ve successfully done it tthrough decades on tv why not anymore? #OLDSCHOOLEMMYS

Thank you Michael—at least we can watch it on-line.

The soap awards have little meaning nowadays when only four soaps remain on the air. It’s kind of a joke to pick the best of four anything. The heyday of soaps is in the distant past and they will all be gone someday. Networks and cable stations know the numbers and have concluded the audience is not there for this set of awards. Other daytime genres are doing well, whoever wins best talk or lifestyle programming actually competed with a large field of competitors.

I always watched the daytime emmy awards on the tv … That’s the way it should be shown on the television and NOT on-line. It wouldn’t be the same on-line at all!

Many can watch it on TV.. lol
All who have a Smart TV, or PC with HDMI can watch on their TV’s, ,,
Most likely it will be available for download to watch whenever,, so no problem ..
I am only interested in the outcome of two soaps and have no time or want to sit through all of the tv networks talk, cooking, game show awards..
I’ll read and see the clips of the soap winners hours after it airs..

SAD DAY WHEN THE DAYTIME EMMYS ARE NOT BEING BROADCAST. NOT FAIR TO THE FANS AND THE ACTOR AND ACTRESS. WITH ALL THE JUNK ADWARDS SHOW THEY HAVE NOW WHY WOULD THE NETWORKS NOT AIR IT. HOPE THEY WILL NEXT YEAR.

I agree with others that daytime deserves more than streamlining the awards. I understand that you will have a team of experts to make sure that nothing goes wrong but what about the households that might experience downtime because of their internet service. Please put it back on TV where it belongs. If you have a soap on the internet then have their awards on the internet. But all the soaps and game shows are on TV and that is where the awards should be.

This is actually Good news, it means they will have time for clips and give daytime the tribute, without network brass. If the numbers are good then it it will help to get back on TV.

CBS loves to announce that they are daytime’s top network but will not cover the Daytime Emmys? Les Moonves needs to wake up. It was an excellent opportunity for him to display his daytime shows in prime-time. I’m still upset that he allowed Barbara Bloomless (Thank God she is gone) to cancel GL and ATWT. He replaced one with The Talk for his wife. He replaced the other with LMAD, which is not any better. Bring back the Emmy’s!

I thin k it is terrible. Not on TV

So what else is new? Daytime has historically been treated like “the red-headed stepsister.”

Hello Mr. Fairman and thank you for keeping the fans up to date with all the soap happenings….with that said, I think that the decision to “stream” the daytime emmys is horrible idea! We watch these stories all year long and look forward to the infamous night of the big award reveals to be seen on national TV! I was thrilled when it was first mentiomed that the Emmys would be broadcasted again on HLN but just this morning, I got the news that they will be streamed. Ughhh!!! I’m glad I can still watch them but it would have been nicer on my large screen television! I’ve watched soap operas since I was 13 yrs old (I am now 61) and it’s very sad how soap operas and it’s viewers are now being treated…….

Can someone tell me if Ari Zucker and Shawn Christian are a couple in real life? I sure hope not. I know he works with her with her charity, but they seem to be together a lot. Thank you.

All My Children

Carol Burnett Talks About Being a Superfan of ‘All My Children’ on ‘Live with Kelly and Mark’

In a heartfelt reunion, of sorts, the one and only Carol Burnett appeared on Monday March 25th episode of Live with Kelly and Mark.

Burnett had first met Kelly Ripa (Hayley) and Mark Consuelos (ex-Mateo) back when they all appeared on All My Children together. Carol played Verla Grubbs first in 1983 and then again in the 90’s.

Host Kelly Ripa (ex-Hayley, AMC) noted to Burnett that “we go back a long time”. She also described Burnett’s character of Verla Grubbs, “extraordinary in every way.”

Carol’s love for All My Children is well-documented, hence legendary soap creator, Agnes Nixon, created the role of Verla for Burnett.

Photo: ABC

Speaking on how her passion for All My Children began, Carol told Kelly and Mark, “It started with my kids. They would watch at noon. I said, ‘What are you guys doing?’ I sat down and I started to watch and I got hooked!”

When Carol’s family decided to travel through Europe during one summer, the comedic legend recalled thinking, “How am I going to last if I don’t know what’s going on in Pine Valley?” She revealed she had a friend, “who sent me a telegram to the (different hotels) on Fridays to bring me up to date.”

In a hilarious moment from the segment, Carol recalled receiving a late night telegram while in Lake Cuomo when there was a knock at her hotel room door from the hotel manager who was shaking.

Carol related what it said, “Erica is still in a coma. Mark slipped again and ran away from rehab.” As Kelly and Mark broke into laughter, Burnett continued, “Chuck has learned that Donna is carrying his baby, who was once a hooker.”

Malachy McCourt, ‘Ryan’s Hope’ and ‘All My Children’ Actor, Dead at 92

If you watched Ryan’s Hope through its 14-year-run, you know that Kevin the bartender became a beloved “member’ of the Ryan clan on the defunct ABC daytime drama series. The character of Kevin MacGuiness became so loved by the fans because of the actor who portrayed him, Malachy McCourt.

Sadly, according to his wife Diana McCourt to The New York Times, Malachy passed away on Monday from a heart condition and battling cancer. The actor was 92-years-old.

Playing Kevin on Ryan’s Hope was not much of a stretch for McCourt, because in his lifetime, he was the owner of 1950s Irish pub Malachy’s on Third Avenue in Manhattan. Known as one of the city’s great story-tellers, patrons from longshoremen to the actor Richard Harris would stop in and talk all things Irish with . On Ryan’s Hope, Kevin was best friends to “Ryan’s Bar” owner, Johnny Ryan (Bernie Barrow) and he tried to keep Delia (Ilene Kristen) on the straight and narrow.

In his soap opera career, McCourt also was widely-known for his role of Father Clarence McCourt on All My Children especially come Christmastime. Was Clarence, actually St. Nick? That was always the proverbial question. McCourt also appeared on the New York soaps: One Life To Live, Search For Tomorrow and Another World. Other roles included: Devil’s Own, Brewster’s Millions, The Molly Maguires, and Starman, to name

Later in 2006, Malachy ran for governor of the state of New York as a Green Party candidate. He tackled social issues of the time including being an advocate for gay and lesbian groups to march in the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

McCourt’s childhood was recounted within his brother Frank McCourt’s Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir Angela’s Ashes, which detailed their mother’s attempt to raise the four of their surviving seven children in poverty in Limerick, Ireland. Later, Malachy wrote his own memoirs: 1998’s Monk Swimming, and 2000’s Singing My Him Song.

Malachy is survived by his aforementioned wife, Diana, daughter Siobhan McCourt; sons Malachy Jr., Conor and Cormac; stepdaughter Nina Galin; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
