42nd Annual Daytime Emmy Winners: DAYS and Y&R Tie For Drama Series, GH's Anthony Geary & Maura West Take Top Acting Honors!

Last night in ceremonies televised on Pop, and held on the famous stage 16 on the Warner Brothers Lot in Burbank California, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences bestowed honors to the performers in front of the camera, as well as the main creatives in show, directing and writing categories during the presentation of the 42nd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards.

In the Daytime Drama Series field, it was a tie for the main award of the night for Outstanding Drama Series, when presenters Tony Geary (Luke) and Genie Francis  (Laura) revealed it was a tie!  Days of our Lives and The Young and the Restless were victorious.

But in the major acting categories, it was heavily-favored Anthony Geary, who took home his eight Daytime Emmy for his role as Luke Spencer.  And his cast member, Maura West took home her third Daytime Emmy, but her first for her role as Ava Jerome in the Outstanding Lead Actor category.

In the Supporting Actress and Actor contest, it was Y&R’s Amelia Heinle who was given the nod for the second year in a row for her role as Victoria Newman, and winning his first ever Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor was Chad Duell for his portrayal of Michael Corinthos on General Hospital.

It was a nice end to his run as Sonny Kiriakis on Days of our Lives when Freddie Smith was voted as Outstanding Younger Actor for his work, and Hunter King of The Young and the Restless took home her second Emmy for Outstanding Younger Actress in a Drama Series as Summer Newman.

The Bold and the Beautiful turned out to be the show to beat in the writing and directing fields as the series took home both last evening.

What did you think of last night’s big winners in the Daytime Drama categories?  Did the right show and actors win? Happy about who got some gold? Weigh-in below!

I was so excited for Tony and Maura!! But equally excited that Chad and Donns Mills won. I didnt understand the Outstanding Dama tie for DAYS or Y & R. Hopefully GH can take that honor again. It is a great show! It was AWESOME to see Genie Francis look so calm and amazing. Maybe she can come back someday!!

Genie looked great. Can’t say the same for Tony. Haven’t seen him in years so was surprised at how he has aged.

I think it’s his hair. Many men color their hair….makes a big difference. I don’t think he looks THAT old. Also, he’s been ill. Besides, Mo, Genie is 16 years younger…..big difference.

Anthony Geary is 67. Thats what happens. I though he looked dapper!

I think it is telling in a major way that GH is the ONLY show of the four that was NOT acknowledged for its story telling… two years in a row – one would think that would relay to TPTB at ABC that their production team isn’t cutting it (other than their successful budget management). B&B got best writing and directing, Days and Y&R share outstanding drama.

Maybe now we can get rid of the shallow plot point progression, the camp, the never ending character dumb downs, the never ending personal triangles with no real romance, the epic stupidity of the cartoon mob wars, the never ending baby story lines and returns from the dead.

And Genie darling, PLEASE STOP letting ABC use you for their selfish aims while immediately thereafter dropping you like a hot potato. You are too talented, too beloved, and too smart to fall for another ratings stunt on your hide.

Elizabeth, I do love your post–especially that last paragraph.
Last night David Letterman showed Tony Geary’s Emmy reel in which he proclaims angrily, “I am not Bill Eckert” and pretty much ridiculed it as only Dave can do. It was hilarious and shown out of context, it only underscored the idiotic writing and the idiotic acting it triggered.

You summed it up really well. That said, I’ll bet there are a lot of “backstage” politics in deciding who gets what. Bet it can be pretty brutal and competitive…just like some soap episodes. Victor Newman come to mind.

I’m sure Genie knows what she is doing. I will bet that she is returning to GH and thats why she appeared.

The infamous question – how does a show win Best Writing and Best Directing and not win Best Show ? I am not a fan of The Bold and Beautiful at all as I was rooting for GH but that always baffles me !

B&B submitted Paris & Abu Dhabi for Drama Series & Directing! This was more Directing than Drama Series. They submitted Hope’s exit for Writing which I thought was good writing there!

Thing is we see our soap everyday for a year..
The judges see perhaps an half hour of the soap..
It also depends greatly on what is submitted..

Big winner;
FV & RC submitted the Ava & Nina baby scene..WOW that was intense Nina making Ava give birth.. Superb acting!
along with the great scenes of Michael, Morgan, Sonny and the AJ death, some really awesome stuff!!
Big Looser;
The nurses ball stuff (second submit) what people were doing while watching it at home and taking part in the Nurses Ball stuff..
(there was much better to submit than that)
I love love love the nurses ball… it is fun..
It is a good time and entertaining… I’m looking forward to this years NB friday..
but not great for the emmy submission IMO..

Last year what killed the #1 for GH was the submitting of the Nurses Ball stuff..
RC and FV gotta stop submitting nurses ball stuff lol ..
I know they submit the Ball to show the great diversity/variety of GH (GH is the only soap with both sides of the coin variety/ dangerous to fun ..

The emmys are totally given by the judges opinions..
Some judges like this others like that..

Imagine; Harry and I are judges.. His likes and mine would not match up lol

Because each award – Best Writing, Best Directing, Best Show – depends on the episodes submitted for that category. It’s not an “overall” award. And, many times a series will not submit the same episode for every category, thinking one episode is stronger in one area than another & better represents that category. It’s a gamble.

Su00, hold the presses–I actually pretty much agree with you.

Harry! -we pretty much agree-
ohh no I think I’m getting the vapors (and not smoking weed kind) I do need some smelling salts!!
next year we should be judges! and get it done right lol 🙂

Wished Alison Sweeney had won Best Actress. So deserved it. Was not a fan of Maura stopping to hug everybody and his brother on her way to the podium. The show was already running late, you can hug people later!

So surprised Amelia and Hunter won for the second straight year. Hunter more so I guess. There were others who should have been recognized.

Yay for Freddie!

Did not like any of Tyra’s outfits. Also, most of the things they did did not work. Did not like the opening and then everyone saying ML’s name was not fun and had things go longer. He should just donate some money to charity, but I guess he wanted to be on everyone’s lips. The game to introduce Betty White was not good. Show us more clips, either of Betty or the nominees. Same with the Family Feud end. And Ms. J’s walk to the podium was not necessary. Didn’t see all of the fan vote results. And the giving away the vacuum cleaner–really? And the cruise–nice for those who won, but move on.

It was nice it was on TV and it wasn’t the worst award show I’ve seen, but it could have been better.

Congrats to Days for winning Best Drama. So surprised Y&R was the other winner. I thought it was going to be B&B. B&B won for best directing and writing so I guess it’s the acting that didn’t bring them the gold for best drama. (Just kidding.)

I guess if B&B and GH want to win Best Drama they need to have Eileen Davidson on their show.

Lol, cool comment

@ Mo – Eileen Davidson!!! I love it. She’s brings Best Drama wins. haha-ha – She’s just that good.

I didn’t see the show – just a few clips that Pop TV uploaded on Twitter. For me, I believe Maura West deserved the win. As much as I adore Alison Sweeney. It was definitely Maura’s year for me.
And, yes, super pleased that Freddie Smith won! That was awesome!

LOL no, BB and GH need to plan better/preferably a death lol

I once read a couple of articles about CBS and Y&R..
CBS honcho’s want a death story for emmy time lol
Y&R won of Delihas death, this year ..
Anyways, they time a heartbreaking story for emmy years or somesuch thing as that..
I recall thinking ”heh they have a system..
chuckle at all the death defying illness Y&R has had through the Years..
Someone has to be dying of some sort of illness, near yearly, or be inflicted with a disease or some such thing/ heh the system AHA! ..

We now have a man with cancer story
and a man paralyzed..
Two struggling with alcoholism and with MS, man with PST and a Bipolar, upfront.
A blind man got his sight back another got a liver .. lol
And now its early on in the year..oops s

Suoo, what you describe in your last paragraph is the typical MO of a soap opera story. GH currently has a woman (Ava) who has allegedly died. a sixty year old man suddenly suffering from split personality disorder, a forty something man suffering from bipolar disease and etc, etc. This is the soap opera genre and no soap is more guilty of it than the other.

I agree Mo, last year all over again for Victoria & Summer. I turned it off. Do you remember for a couple of years Heather Tom (Katie B & B) won and a few feathers we’re ruffled? Now their doing the same with ( Victoria & Summer Y & R). I guess they pick the ones that haven’t won and let them win a couple years in a row. In other words it’s fixed. Summer was hand picked by Jill Farren-Phelps so it’s no surprise she got it, but it is unfair to the other actresses who we’re better. At this stage I think they should buy a pile of these statutes and just give each one in the cast one, and just forget the show. It sounds expensive but at least it would be fair.

Mo, Maura was excited! She had a rough go at Y&R and was just overwhelmed she won and so grateful to Frank and Ron. Give her a break!

I agree, Timmm. Maura was overwhelmed. And, she did deserve to win.

Tyra looked like the Road Warrior costume designer had thrown up all over her.
What the hell?
Hunter King appears to be the “It” girl for the headwriters and producers right now but the viewers do not appear to be fans.
Amelia won again with her somnolent whispering approach to acting? Award shows are on automatic pilot sometimes.

@Harry…..Apparently Tyra and “Alexis” shop at the same unfortunate location. By the way, I thought of you this afternoon, when Lulu suggested Val-Chops visit the stables at Wyndemere….perhaps “Crazy Horse” will find accommodations there to her liking!

Too funny, Mo. I guess Eileen is the missing link?

PS. Mo, I respect your fascination with Ali Sweeney. Great actress!, yes!!. But, it was always a recycled story where Ali was concerned…always more of the same. Different men, but no variation. I was sick of her storylines. Same breakfast, lunch and dinner, day in day out.
Her redemption, in my eyes was her mourning of EJ. Incredibly realistic. But, could never compare to Maura’s many unparalleled, heart-wrenching performances. My opinion.

The game show, Password, was part of the tribute to Betty White. She appeared on the show many times and married the host, Alan Ludden, who she declared the love of her life. So, it was a nice bit of vintage trivia playfully recreated. Probably sweet for her.

Agree on Tyra’s outfits. For s fashion model she certainly made a statement…just not a good one. Someone from the fashion police should have arrested her!

MW is very good at what she does just wish maybe their could have been a tie with AS liked to have seen her win for 21 years oh well so it goes.

Alison Sweeney was robbed, personally Laura Wright’s reel was better than Maura.

Would have loved for Alison to win. She so deserved it. Her acting in the episode she submitted was fantastic.

She just needs to come back to be nominated again.

I firmly believe that Jason Thompson has been cheated for three years he deserved that emmy last nite and I was sad for him.

I love Jason Thompson, and I think there were other years he definitely deserved to win. But this was Tony Geary’s year. It was as sure of a thing as there was on that awards show. Jason will get his due one of these years, I’m sure of that.

Don’t watch nor care about GH but congrats to CBS and DAYS on your win! Well deserved!

The pics should be of the winning shows Y&R and DOOL. Why ONLY GH pics even with the three way tie for guest spot. You only showed GH Donna Mills. Not fair and sorry but seems bias.

I thought it was just a two-way tie for best male guest–Fred Willard and Ray Wise.

I guess Donna was featured because it was one pic and she has been on soaps, albeit primetime, for years without a win.

Were Fred and Ray at the ceremony?

This seems to happen often…

Congrats to all the winners, however.

FINALLY someone else sees it!!! It’s ALL over this site. I truly like Michael as a journalist and a person, but this place just reeks with bias.

Michael Fairman as his last name would suggest is fair. He is a journalist who happens to be a soap fan. He has interviewed and featured ALL the actors from ALL the shows on this site. We dont know who he asks to speak to or who lets him show videos or add quotes. I will be forever grateful for Mr. Fairmans content. He keeps a genre alive and informs me of news from ALL the shows and the actors perspectives.

And to be fair, it IS his site and he can show his love for a show more than others.

But there is also nothing wrong with his readers pointing it out.

It’s good both ways.

I do know that several of the soap sites overwhelmingly picked GH to win best show. I’m sure there was some seething….

(Wink)

IT is ridiculous that they are only 4 shows left and they are all nominated for Best Drama Series, and then there is a tie, crazy!

Congrats to Days of our Lives!!!!!

Congrats to Freddie Smith!!!!!!!!!!!

POP/CBS wasn’t about to let DAYS show them up: The crooked network just had to give Y&R a win!

Hunter King, Really? The only reason she has her hands on a pair of Emmys is because a pair of hands (maybe) were on her!! Did you learn anything, Camila?

Its like keeping Joe Schmo on you r team and trading away Derek Jeter! Michael Muhney, we miss you!

I was thrilled that Maura West won. Her portrayal of Ava Jerome is top-notch. I absolutely love how she slithers in and out of scenes and how she is able to bring so much angst and emotion to each and every scene. She is a beautiful, talented actress. I am thrilled that she won!
I am also happy for Tony Geary. As much as I disliked the “Fluke” storyline, Tony did an amazing job bringing “Fluke” to life and portraying such a broken, callous, disgusting, vile side of Luke.
Congratulations to Chad Duell, as well. Chad has done an amazing job with the material given to him. I’ve enjoyed his scenes so much more now that Kristen Alderson has left the show. The jury is still out on “Nu-Kiki;” but, any recast is an improvement, IMO (although, I never really saw the reason for the character or a recast, in the first place-pretty useless character, brings no value to the show).

@dmr….While I echo your sentiments regarding the well-deserved acting accolades for both MW and AG, I am totally bewildered with your comments on CD. Amazing? (Uh….where and when?) Sorry, but I must vociferously disagree with that assessment. Duell may be a nice guy, however, he’s serviceable at his very best, just downright bland and ineffective in his normal mode. I actually found him a comfortable fit with KA, but then I always liked her, if not her gormless character of Kiki. Having said that, her obnoxious recast is absolutely awful, although no more than that dreadfully deplorable dud of a drip, Sappy, who is now once again being shoved to the canvas forefront in yet another completely contrived, unsuitable hookup with a far superior mate in the futile attempt to make her relevant. Talk about a character that is “pretty useless and brings no value to the show”…..that’s the “Sapster” in a nutshell! Watching her being insinuated into the Quartermaine heir’s life whilst awkwardly hanging around him, just taking up space for no good purpose, has been truly unbearable. It’s utterly beyond reason to have this smug, self-satisfied miss whose portrayer has absolutely no dramatic capabilities whatsoever to be paired with another acting lightweight….just a complete disaster to witness. I nearly lost my lunch seeing those two canoodling …..what a totally mismatched mess! Someone needs to smack “Mikey” upside the head, make him revert back to his mild-mannered, sensible self, and find him a beautiful, sophisticated debutante befitting of his family’s name….STAT!

And i did predict…well, i was somewhat joking…that Sap and Mickey mouse would hook up and get married…sorry Shay, ill try not to be good at predicting anymore to save both our sanity…i think it might be a little too late for me…lol

I like Sabrina…short and sweet! With all of the other in-your-face actress roles, I think she brings a nice contrast to GH.

Hi, Shay,
I can’t say that I am a huge Chad Duell fan; but, apart from the whining and compared to the other less than stellar young(er) actors on the shows, I think he is able to at least hold his own while in scenes with Maurice Benard and Laura Wright. When Bryan Craig first came on board as Morgan, he was God awful, IMO-the writing was awful, too; however, he has progressed a bit. Perhaps if the character of Kiki was referred to as Lauren she would be a bit more tolerable; however, the character is useless and brings nothing to the show-agreed!

Shay rules! I am so with you on Chad. Probably a nice guy but so annoying as Michael Q. He whines and has a smug look on his face. Yelling all the time does not equal good acting. Well, he did win the Emmy and its good for the show but I feel bad for any of the other nominees. As far as Snorbrina, I thought we got rid of her and she is back in a front burner story ruining every scene she is in. ATTENTION UGLY BETTY’S, if your looking for a lifestyle change, head to Port Charles! Where else can you first meet a rich doctor and THEN a rich corporate executive!

The jury most definitely isn’t still out on the new Kiki. The scenes featuring this character/actress are tantamount to nails on the chalkboard for me. These scenes are remarkably bad.

The latest example: Kiki and Morgan adjacent to the elevator outside of Avery’s room congratulating one another about their perceived victory in securing custody of her. This particular scene was so bad that I literally cringed as I watched it. I felt badly for Bryan Craig. Certainly, his performance in this scene was poor, too, but I am a fan of his and the character so he’s forgiven. This time.

Mr. Valentini…. What are you thinking? Drop this actress (and the character, too). And please schedule her off work 5/15 & 5/18. I cannot fathom watching her live. I am looking forward to these episodes quite a lot. I wish you guys much success in this endeavor. Break a leg!

I do agree, Jason. I cannot tolerate this Kiki for much longer. However, I would not get rid of the character. There is a potentially gripping storyline coming.
I know I will be annoying some people here, as I keep harping on this very subject. But, I swear on my favorite food (pizza, LOL), that it will soon be revealed Kiki is Nina’s…LOL. No, I have not given up.
That is the well-guarded family secret Dr. O was referring to when speaking with Franco.
As far as Craig is concerned, I am not as forgiving as you, Jason. That stupid make-out session at the Metro Court made me wince with disgust at both their God-awful acting and at the writers’s uninspiring piece of_______(work).
Break a leg, indeed…LOL.

I used to say that Kristen Alderson was like nails on a chalkboard to me. I can’t say that I am a huge fan of Nu-Kiki and honestly, the character brings nothing to the canvas. In other news, Michael and Sabrina have zero chemistry; their scenes were so awkward. I don’t like how the writers shove new “couples” or pairings down our throats without any back story or history-besides Sabrina babysitting Avery for what, two weeks? Ugh.

@CeeCee….Well, all I can say is that nobody deserves the hellacious nuKiki as a daughter more than your beloved Nina!!!! Given that Ms. Jerome apparently inherited her “evil, obnoxious gene” from somewhere, I think you can safely bet your pizza that this purported Jerome is in actuality an apple that did not fall far from the CrayClay tree!!!! Talk about poetic justice after absconding with that little angel, Avery…..instead Nina is going to end up with an adult-sized devil’s spawn as her true progeny. You have to love the irony!

@dmr….If you think that Mikey whines now, just wait until he hangs out with the perpetually-annoying Sappy for awhile….as you have so accurately pointed out, they have no backstory or credible reason for their pairing, so it’s pretty safe to assume that there will be plenty of nauseating, nonsensical scenes with little rhyme or reason featuring those two…..no chemistry, indeed! And nothing whatsoever in common. As for CD’s scenes with his parents and brother, I found his histrionics with them to be completely over-the-top…he really isn’t convincing to me in the vengeful mode……he simply seems immature and irritating. While prior to his fallout with the “Famiglia Corinthos” he walked through his scenes with a constantly bewildered expression, he was still pleasant and innocuous enough. Now, he’s a right pain, and so darn arrogant I can’t stand the sight of him and that surly look he has frozen upon his face . I am truly wishing for his downfall, although even he doesn’t deserve the likes of the “Sapster” in his midst….that rates as extremely cruel and unusual punishment!!!!

Not quite sure of the reason for the tie with only 4 shows left on-air…

Both DAYS & Y&R had submitted great reels!

Really enjoyed the show last night. It was so much better than last year’s fiasco, and some of those embarrassing Las Vegas infomercial shows that we’ve had in recent years. This was more like the Emmys used to be.

Very happy for Tony Geary winning his well deserved 8th Emmy, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him take home #9 next year. Glad to see Chad Duell finally get some recognition, it’s been overdue for him, in my opinion, as he’s done quality work for a number of years now, dating back to the Michael prison storyline.

But I was most happy and pleasantly surprised for Maura West. I didn’t see her winning, since almost all of the predictions had either Allison Sweeney or Gina Tognoni. She seemed genuinely surprised. So glad to see her recognized for her consistently awesome work as Ava, and especially for the much maligned and criticized “crypt sex” episode.

Great night for GH in taking the two lead acting categories and supporting actor. Disappointing that the show was shut out in the show, writing and directing categories, but I loved hearing the genuinely heart felt appreciation expressed by Tony, Maura and Chad for Frank Valentini and Ron Carlivati in helping them get on that stage. Goes to show that while everyone and their brother have their opinions on those two, the people whose opinion truly matters, the people that work for them, appreciate and recognize the great work they do.

I actually thought Maura did some of her best work opposite Michelle Stafford & Donna Mills, during the forced birth sequence. I could have watching those 3 onscreen together for hours.

I agree, loved those scenes with Maura, Michelle and Donna, and the baby drama. That was a great episode as a whole, and one of the two that GH submitted for Best Show, which is why I thought they had a good chance to win.

Maura submitted the crypt scenes with Maurice, but she had so many great episodes last year, she could have submitted any of them and still won. They gave her quality material to work with, and she knocked it out of the park every time.

Also have been liking her scenes with Silas, especially lately. Be interesting to see how this part turns out.

What a trio, hey Kansas? I’m with you; these women are as different as night and day, yet so much alike. They are all three strong outwardly and within, yet they have shown their weaknesses and fragility.
I hope our eyes will feast upon these ladies again, together, in a ‘reunion’.

RE: Cathy

MF seems to have a thing for GH’s writers and can’t seem to write a single thing against GH, even when its well deserved. It’s actually laughable at the spin MF writes for GH’s failing raitings.

MF is a great reporter otherwise, but the blatant favoritism to GH only goes to show there is more going on behind the scenes.

I understand what you’re saying, GH Fan but as I see it Fairman is not critical of any of the soaps. I think the reason why is that soaps’ existence is precarious at best and his aim is to showcase and promote the soap opera genre in general.

It simply is-
GH always has controversy and its’ fan are voicetress..
GH always has something going to report about, other soap usually do not have much change, GH always has something to report on..

Michael Fairman has never shown favoritism, ever..
If something is happening no matter which soap he brings us the news..
Not his fault that GH is more active..

I think your gripe is a tad ironic considering your name…

Overall the emmys have hits and big misses, Let me elaborate

Hits: Days winning Drama Series , Freddie Smith winning Younger Actor , Chad Duell winning Supporting Actor , Betty White lifetime achievement award , Celebrated 50 years of Days , Entertainment Tonite emmy win , & Luke & Laura reunited , also Daniel Goddard bringing Y&R fan to emmys.

Misses: Steve harvey losing to Craig Ferguson for game show host , Steve Harvey losing also to The Chew , Jeopardy winning game show for the100th time, Anthony Geary winning Lead Actor again ,( great actor , but enough already), Maura West winning Lead Actress,( talented lady , but she was not the best), I will give a low down on this in my guess review), not annouces all fan favorite awards, Hunter King winning again ( a another low down), Ellen winning again & to many repeat offenders.

The Actors who were robbed: Alison Sweeney should have won for her work & she will not get another chance to win daytime emmy gold , unless she comes back full time to Days, she might have lost the emmy , but she won by progressing out of soaps into commericals , Hallmark tv shows & movies & she is still the biggest loser host. So Maura west might have won a third emmy , but she still in soaps , need I say more. Usually great actors move on to prime time& movies. Truly they are actors who love the soap medium & stay forever like Eric Braeden , Anthony Geary, Deidre Hall, Eileen Davidson etc. But even Shemar Moore was not that ethusied after reading Maura name , maybe next year the ladies in running for Lead Actress need to put sex scenes in there in there emmy reels. ( just saying) Hunter King is decent but Camilla & Haley Pullos were better and one of them should have won , this category has lost its luster. I was hoping that Finola Hughes would have won , but Amelia Henlie won again. Bryan Craig here is hope you get win next year , glad Freddie won , but looks Bryan & Alison were in the same boat. Overall the emmys had improvement but needs some more work on acting nominees.

Is it just me or was it not mind blowing that JFP submitted the showdown between Adam & Billy I mean after all the nasty gossip concerning MM she submits that a little classless .

Thank you. I was baffled how Y&R managed to pull off a tie for best serial. I was unable to watch the footage reels here in Canada, but you’re solved the mystery for me. The showdown between Billy and Adam was the only memorable story line in 2014– and I sincerely doubt when nuBilly and nuAdam confront each other again, it will get anyone an Emmy award.

And it isn’t just you, I find it interesting that she would submit that scene as well– but there wasn’t anything else they did in 2014 that stood a chance of winning anything– so it might have been classless, but to make herself look like a smart producer, it was the right call to make.

Y&R also submitted the anniversary of Delia’s death which I thought was a pretty good reel she submitted!

– Best Serial –
(tie)

Marquee : “Days of OUR Lives” WINS

YES, YES, LOL, and, MORE “yes” : I was secretly hoping… I honestly thought Days, had a chance !

I was giddy beyond repose

I do not have “POP” … and was on the computer, last night… while cooking dinner… “waiting” for updates… from Variety.com

they announced Y&R first… and I exhaled… lamented… and ! drum roll… there was a tie ! and DAYS ! has risen

if you read the 4 soaps submissions… for : “Best Serial”

it’s hands down bar none: Days, should have been the clear frontrunner

“GH” went with the first episode from its annual Nurses Ball (which had numerous entanglements) and also the shocking episode in which Franco’s aborted wedding to Carly set the scene for the revelation that Michael’s biological dad A.J. was murdered by stepfather Sonny.

“The Bold and the Beautiful” submissions feature an interrupted marriage ceremony and a derailed love match. International sensation “Bold” still manages the unique feat of taping overseas

“Days of Our Lives” exec producer Ken Corday selected Sami finding her beloved E.J.’s “dead” body, and Will and Sonny’s marriage ceremony, the first gay male wedding in daytime.

“The Young and the Restless” won last year’s top prize for episodes involving the hit-and-run death of little Delia Abbott and continued the storyline this year.

This year’s submission includes an episode in which Delia’s father, Billy, has a showdown with the driver, Adam.

“What Adam did wrong was not coming forward about an accident,” says Jill Farren Phelps, “Restless” executive producer, a nine-time Emmy-winner for producing three different daytime soaps. “The performances we had in those shows last year were outstanding.

“In my experience, a show I have won an Emmy for has evoked an emotional response from the audience,” adds Phelps. “That’s what I look for when I decide what to submit.”

as for Y&R : they deserved to win last year… for “Dehlia’s Death”…. that being said… just as JFP “lauds herself” her submission, renders some validity… were scenes from January, of last year… with Billy Miller and Michael Muhney. ’nuff said

4 best serials to TUNE IN

Days: for my monies… captures my attention the best…. the serial recipe they uphold is a testament to the original ideal

Salem’ites !

SOAPBOX : YES! herald OUR Days!

* best serial announce

I read via twitter feed… it was mentioned “first” for Y&R

so i wasn’t even sure DAYS had “tied” till a little after

“secretly, hoping”

how can you compete with all the press

GH and Y&R… even B&B

laud

“whew” it’s with relief and acknowledge… that Salem’ites prevail

keep on moving … Days / NBC / Sony

How the hell does Hunter King keep winning?? Her acting is horrible!!!!! I really don’t understand that…..her or AH…..#horrible

Read my post above.

It may not have been the greatest emmy show to some, but it showed more class than last years and the best part is that it was back on tv!!!

I have to submit, love me some, Amelia Heinle ! LOL : YES ! this started my night !

this was the toughest category : bar none

how could any one choose from SO “much” strengths

good lord

Lisa LoCicero, Olivia, GH
Finola Hughes, Anna, GH
Elizabeth Henrickson, ex-chloe, Y&R
Linsey Godfrey, Caroline, B&B
Amelia Heinle, Victoria, Y&R

In this order… I honestly, thought… they should have “won” knowing in my mind… my favorite of ; thee nominees was my Amelia

Lisa LoCicero blew this out of the water… I thought…”oh no” …. Amelia scenes were with Burgess Jenkins… I didn’t give her much hope

LOL

lo and behold… after thinking about the outcome

I clearly am captivated by AH’ Victoria… I feel a protective, toward her… a shield, a net,
when she emotes

I liken her win… along the same lines of Maura West : for her 3rd accolade

subtle, nuanced… not over the top… overbearing… or histrionic

just lovely women beautifully portrayed by actresses… who shine brightly… YES! it’s my girl… and even so… Ali Sweeney, ex-Sami, for DOOL, deserved to win….

it was Amelia and Maura TIME to laud

SO : 1. Days of OUR Lives
2. Amelia Heinle
3. Freddie Smith, ex-Sonny, DOOL

4. DAYS of OUR Lives : best sets (LOL)

disgruntle mode :

Chad Deull, Michael, GH
Hunter King, Summer, Y&R

these are two of the WORST actors … so boring uninteresting… lacks so much presence

I’ll throw in there… one from each serial

Shawn Christian, Daniel, DAYS : pitiful
??? B&B ex-Ridge : Ron Moss

mountain top descend…. DAYS still has it

I have so much respect for actors on daytime. They work really hard and have a lot of dialogue to remember. Look at Donna Mills, she was a primetime soap queen. She came on GH and her head was spinning from all the lines she had to remember and was blown away by the pace in which the actors work. One of the reasons maybe daytime gets laughed at? Chad and Hunter Emmy winners? Seriously, if you watch any of the Disney XD channel with their tween shows, some of the kids are really talented. These two numnuts suck!

Well, that was inestering …

I knew Chad would hold an emmy, he was awesome..

Happy for Donna Mills and her 1st emmy !!

Maura West !! You deserve the emmy.. A true soap Queen.. !!

Anthony Geary!! I had no doubt that you would bring your 8th gold lady home!

Joan Rivers memory tribute /clip had people crying..

The Betty White Life Time Achievement Award was more than awesome..

I saw Luke and Laura, they just didn’t seem right or something. Tony looked he could be her father..

And this- I totally do not understand..
Outstanding Drama Series: Days of Our Lives and The Young and the Restless (TIE)
Y&R was zzzzz horrible last year/fact..
DOOL was so bad, via fans, they thought it might get canceled..
hmmm both a pity win/lol just kiddin’

— The 2 shockers;
Amelia Heinle is behind the acting talents of FH and LC….
I am shocked she won over the great Finola Hughes/Anna Devane GH and
Lisa Locicero/Olivia Falconeri GH.. ohh well ..

Hunter King is a screamer cryer no tears just loud..that is not acting just loud noise ..
A huge percent of fans on boards wanted her to shut up lol .. but she took an emmy /bewildered over that one.. ohh well ..)))

No opinion on BB and DOOL, haven’t watched them..
I’m happy for their fans on their wins!

(just my opinions if you don’t agree, then you are wrong AHA! 🙂

ohh yah.. Maurice/Sonny, should have at the leat 4 emmy’s, whats up with that, sigh….(one emmy around 15 years back)

Ah, su. You are something else. I love it.
Have you ever stopped to think for one minute, that Maurice did not win because he can’t act? In my opinion, all his years of having been given the label of a great actor, was due to the fact that his persona as a mobster was glorified. He lisps, he stumbles through his lines, and Sonny is not the formidable mini-man he wants to have us believe. Look what happened to Napoleon…LOL
I saw many of his clips….not impressed….especially, his attempt at emulating Michael Corleone. BAH and LOL.

CeeCee, gotta strongly disagree with you on Maurice. I think the fact that so many actors submitted scenes that they shared with him and got nominated (Maura, Chad, Bryan Craig this year, two of them won) is validation of what kind of actor he is.

The year Laura Wright won her Emmy, it was because of scenes with Maurice. Even though he’s still a lead actor on the show, he’s actually become more of a better supporting actor in recent years. I notice that every year. So many of the GH nominees submit scenes where they work with Maurice. To me, that’s a huge testament to the kind of actor he is.

To answer Su’s point on why Maurice hasn’t won more. I’m pretty sure he stopped submitting his name for Emmy consideration. I don’t remember seeing his name on the pre-nomination list the past few years, and practically everyone and their brother gets a pre-nomination. I remember an interview he did a few years ago where he talked about how he wasn’t a big fan of the Emmy process, and actors competing against each other. So I really think he may have stopped submitting his name.

@Dan.
Hello, Dan,…been a while.
I can see, from your praise of Maurice that you admire him and his acting. I respect that. I cannot ‘get’ into this actor. Perhaps, the fact that I despise his characterization of Sonny rubs off on him? I guess it’s not fair, but I only know Maurice as Sonny.
So far, I have not found him as a strong actor. He has done nothing to wow me.
Again, it is not fair, on my part, since I am not familiar with his past work, except what I have gleaned on the Internet.
I suppose you are right, in that, he is now a supporting actor, a stepping stone, if you will, for lead actors/actresses.
I wish I could see what Sonny’s fans see in him, then , maybe, I would understand all the adulation.

Maurice; his movie- ” The Ghost and The Whale.”
His performance blew me away!!.. so different than Sonny..
He is very talented.. I really like watching him preform..

(sorry CeeCee 🙂 lol

@su…
I love you, girl. Don’t be sorry for liking certain actors/characters. It’s your privilege . That’s what makes the world go ’round.
I think, the fact that I really do not like the Sonny character and his ilk, has rubbed off on Maurice….which, as I said, is not fair of me. I do not know him personally. Thus, my reasoning has no rhyme or reason…I realize that. We all have our faves…later.

I bet you have a Maurice Bernard poster hanging in your bedroom! Admit it!

@Timmm.
LOL. How did you know?

Su I agree with you: “Y&R was zzzzz horrible last year/fact..” I can’t believe they actually won for best series. It has to be a joke. It is obviously fixed. Based on the winners that I have seen over the last several years, it seems that the people voting work for CBS since they seem to win (Y&R and B&B) when they don’t deserve it. IMO.

I dont see how GH doesnt win Outstanding Drama Series. I could see GH tying with DAYS but to tie with Y&R is a joke. That show was lost in 2014! And I dont like that the shows tied. I can see an actor having such a good year it ties because we are talking humans here, but a show, one had to be a little better than the other. I am happy for Tony and Maura. They both deserved it and won. Hunter King, are you serious? You know what that means, ALL Summer ALL summer long! That whining and yelling is such a turn off. Every scene she is in she has a look on her face like she is smelling rotten meat! Ugg! Tyra wasnt bad or lets say she wasnt nearly as bad as the Griffin “Women.” Steve Harvey was loud and obnoxious! The memoriam with Babyface was nice. I also liked the shows tribute to Days. All in all, not bad, I just wish they played clips or reels from the actors nominated. If not for all of them, at least the leads or even clips from all four shows. Its on POP, who cares if the show runs way over its allotted time! Love Boat reruns can wait!

Steve Harvey looks like The Potato man.
Another disappointment was that there was a promise that a HUGE announcement was going to be made during the Daytime Emmies.
That HUGE, earth shattering announcement is that the Road Warrior Costuming for Dummies star, Tyra Banks, was going to have her own talk show.
Holy disappointment, Batman! I would have been more excited to hear that Homer and Marge Simpson Chia Pet Heads’ gave birth to a Bart Simpson Chia pet head.

I thought they would announce the return of Genie Francis to GH. Tyra is back! [Add that to my list of 1001 reasons to cancel my cable!]

“oh, GOsh” don’t remind me…

so true… glaringly so

“… Hunter King, are you serious? You know what that means, ALL Summer ALL summer long! ”

I think I could… Take.. Chad Duell and Shawn Christian… over her
I guess I do, since I continue to watch GH and DAYS

Michael is just a male version of Summer. Anyone who enters the room he sports a scowl! [Crychael!]

One of GH’s submission was the Nurses Ball and I believe this is what HURT their chances at winning!

I had never heard of the Pop channel and tried to find it amongst the hundreds of channels TW cable provides. Did not find it. I laughed when I read two of the four remaining soaps “tied” for best drama. Really now. The awards don’t mean much with so few soaps on the air. It seemed academy voters tried to spread the awards around to give each soap a little credibility,

You didn’t miss much, Rapids.
I found the whole affair to be rather depressing and anti climatic

Geary, Maura, and Donna Mills were well deserved. Glad Chad Duel won, too.

SOOO happy for CHAD DUELL and Freddie Smith!

why does GH get all the pics and attention? maura isnt that great geezus

I thought it was a good show. All the soaps fared well. The Nurses Ball probably cost GH a chance at winning best drama. It was strange to see B&B win writing and directing, but not best show. I think it had to do with the episodes they submitted. I didn’t think those location episodes could win best show, they focused more on production quality than story. Congrats DAYS. Not overly surprised Y&R won best show again. The academy seems to like Jill Farren Phelps. She always seems to pick the right episodes to win.

JFP may have the touch for episode-picking. But, GH is clearly the show for actors to challenge themselves. I think it says something that seasoned actors (Billy Miller, Michelle Stafford, Maura West, Donna Mills, Roger Howarth, Michael Easton) are attracted by GH’s atmosphere & reputation. And, longtime GH actors – Tony Geary, Chad Duell, Laura Wright, Jason Thompson, Finola Hughes, Tyler Christopher, Maurice Bernard – continue to find their characters interesting & fun to play.

I hope that for next year’s Emmy competition, FV & RC chose the April 1, 2015 episode to submit – where Luke flashes back to his childhood. It’s early in the year, and there might be some great episodes yet to come. But, that was one amazing episode IMO.

While not in contention this year, add to your list of actors going above and beyond…currently Jack Bergman of Y& R is doing a phenomenal job as Jack and his doppelganger. As is Cady McClain as Kelly.

In a year a lot can happen BUT I would bet Tony has a strong chance of winning his ninth Emmy for the black and white episode. It was perfect!

@Timm – I completely agree. When I recall what Geary did in 2014 to win this award, I cannot imagine the preliminary panels passing him over for the 2015 award if the anniversary show is submitted. What he did in that episode was so amazing compared to anything he did in 2014. I also expect Dee Wallace Stone to be nominated for her guest role

@KansasGuest…..I concur that Dee Wallace will be fully deserving of a nomination for her far-too-brief guest stint on GH, although I may never forgive her character for foisting the appalling Val-Chops on Port Charles!!!!!

I thought , otherwise

that it was Laura Wright screeching and yelling at Roger Howarth, Franco

how many times… did she call him a “freak”

thereby, no GH best Serial

With only 4 shows left, a tie, REALLY?? Wish Allison had won for sentimental reasons, but Maura was deserving and gave the best performance, so I am very happy for her..Anthony Geary, you got your 8 emmy, congrats and you are very deserving of it, best performance in the lot!!!..You are the greatest actor in daytime history and most likely you will win your 9 emmy next year and I love you as an actor, but PLEASE take your name out of consideration for emmy nomination, let your other co-stars get a shot a nomination…Just seems like the right thing to do ( ala, Oprah and Candice Bergen)

Best thing was watching Chad and Freddy finally winning emmys..So well deserved for these superb young actors..There is something about the emmys both daytime and primetime that is so consistent..They are stale, never a surprise and always, for like 75% of the time, the same multiple winners over and over, same nominees over and over..Some deserving, most of the time not so much.

ala twitter “feed”

the best pic, I saw, for me :

Jenn Lilly, Stephen Nichols, Mary Beth Evans, and Eric Martsolf

“Dang”

can’t wait for these two couple’ stories to unfold

2 supercouples if you will

GO DAYS

Congrats to Maura West. I am so happy she won the Daytime emmy. Maura is a wonderful actress.

I had a lot of mixed feelings about this year’s telecast, but I must admit that it was ten times better than last year’s fiasco. Tyra Banks was too much about herself instead of hostessing the Emmys. Hope they pick someone less self-promoting next year. Her outfits were horrendous IMO. And that guy sashaying down the isle? OMG! I’ve got to agree with Shemar; they should have cut that waste of time. The event seems too much like a giant game show with everything a few select audience members got. Too much time was spent on them, which I’m sure they enjoyed, but the rest of the nation had to suffer through this waste of air time.

Another complaint I had was the camera work and the calls made in the control room. I loved the young lady who sang while the montage played, but we soap fans would have liked to have seen the whole thing; not so much of her. She sang beautifully and was gorgeous, but my goodness!, they paid for those clips and we deserved to see them. I was worried that the same thing might happen when Babyface started to sing for the In Memorium section. And then the cameras were on peole nobody knew half the night instead on on the daytime stars. I’m not even talking just my soap stars. They weren’t on talk show hosts, game show hosts, cooks, few few soap stars at all. It was like they had no idea who these people were. maybe next year they could read this website, read a SOD or even the shows’ websites. Yeah, I think it’s called research, so they’ll be prepared.

What I did like was the look of the studio. It did show some class. The people were dressed up for the most part ~ though some unrelated to the daytime field looked like slobs. I loved seeing my soap stars whenever they popped up or presented. I loved Betty White, though the game show was a snooze fest = waste of time. Loved her clips. Loved the DAYS montage and that so many of my favorites won. I was leery of any great build-up to Tony Geary appearing with Genie Francis, but man!, did she ever look fantastic! I have hope after this year, that the producers are on the right path to getting it right once again. We’ll see next year…

“what” ???? does… Anthony Geary…. DO… with : 8 emmies ?

endear him
accolade him
revere him

???? he’s not interesting

why don’t I feel excitement for him

Male actors with wins :

Anthony Geary : 8 respectively
David Canary : the dynamic persevere : 5 wins… took himself out of any more “WINS”
Peter Bergman and Christian LeBlanc : 3 wins

it’s already posted… he’s a contender for his 9th

this years nominees:

Anthony Geary, Luke, GH
Jason Thompson, Patrick, GH
Billy Miller, Billy, Y&R
Christian LeBlanc, Michael, Y&R

not the strongest year… by any means…. ??? they couldn’t even let a 5th nominee

after all is said and done… AG will respite to Amsterdam… and take his long hiatus from GH… return to Tracy… isn’t she stuck/pigeonholed

warm and fuzzy

it takes the excitement and WINs for… any one else seriously?

next year… the same persons may be nominated… all from GH

Luke, Patrick, and nuJake… plus ????

waned interest and just desert

ho hum… notch on his belt

Patrick I get yelled at for this but enough with Geary give him a dam life achievement award and be done with it! Funny how Michael Logan felt Slezak should quit submitting I think she has six but somehow has no problem with Geary on and on. I really wanted Jason Thompson yo take it home though I knew he would not.

I am not going to yell AT you, Substitute, I am going to yell WITH you.

@ The Sub

Hello : I don’t mind taking guff

LOL

I have always heard that… about, Erika Slezak… that she made the conscious decision to acknowledge her peers

dang it! it’s RIGHT ON !

reason I posted above… that David Canary … is another mindful actor who took his name out of contention…. dang it… wasn’t it always a two man race… BIG TIME… between David Canary and James Mitchell…. the kings of AMC… Adam Chandler and Palmer Cortlandt

anyway:

Erika Slezak : 6 wins
Susan Flannery : 4 wins
Kim Zimmer : 4 wins
Helen Gallager : 3 wins
Maura West : 3 wins

simply saying : matter of fact

when I think Anthony Geary : I don’t get excited… he’s not an every day player, contractually… for years… it’s been… let’s feature him for a nomination

when I wiki past winners… I’m enthralled excited at past nominees

AG stated rather preeminently… that’s he’s lost more times than “won”
ie: he’s been nominated 15 times and has won 8

alright already

The Fluke storyline might not have been the best, but Tony Geary definitely deserved that Emmy. He played a role so different than anything Luke has ever been in his 37 years on the show. I didn’t find anything “ho hum” about it. Tony will almost certainly be retiring in the next few years, so other actors wll have plenty of opportunity to win in future years. But in the meantime, whether someone has 20 Emmys or zero Emmys, if they put in the quality work, they deserve to be recognized.

Im certain JT will finally win one day…he is good but a little overrated imho…but AG was most definately at his finest and rose above the flaws in the storyline…now thats great acting!!!

… but her first for her role as Ava Jerome in the Outstanding Lead Actor category.

I believe that should be ACTRESS.

No longer,, it is equil.. man or woman they are actors..
Same as military.. The female sergeants, majors etc are not called Mam the women are call ‘Sir, also..

I luv Anthony Geary, but enough is enough. Why is there anyone else nominated. Just hand the emmy to Anthony. I was disappointed that Michael Leblanc did not win, as he is an excellent actor. Wake up yall and give someone else a chance. Eight emmys are enough. Maybe Mr Geary should remove his name as Opray did so others may have a chance. It is not fair people.

When someone can outperform/act tony they will win..
Tony is, without a doubt, the best daytime actor..
Perhaps next year some will manage to top Tony, but I doubt it..
He has some very strong performances for next year.. 🙂

Why the hell should he have to remove his name? He earned it! Fluke or no Fluke he did a fantastic job. Some would say the Patriots have won too many Super Bowls. Should they dismiss their team from the play-offs and let someone else win? Ridiculous. Other years other actors have won the Emmy. This was tony’s year AGAIN. He earned it.

Can’t believe a major network didn’t televise the emmy awards. Watch CBS the whole year and couldn’t watch it because of a cable company. Shame on you CBS, NBC and ABC. I’m really upset. Never heard of pop until now.

My soap opera wishes until the next years DT Emmys.

GH: Recast Michael, Julie Berman is back, Sabrina and Carlos are gone, Steve Burton is back, so is Stephen Nichols, Valerie is a major player, Ric is still in town, Nina and Franco are not, Spinelli heads back to Seattle, Robin is recasted, Dante solves a crime, Carly checks in on Joss and Ned comes home with Dylan.

Y&R: Hello Billy Miller and Michael Muhney, Justin Hartley stays but really is Gabe Bingham, Tucker is recasted and comes back to reclaim his mother’s estate, Lilly, Sage and Chelsea take a cruise and their ship is lost at sea forever, Michelle Stafford steps back into HER role, Victor loses everything and takes a job in the Jabot mail room, Eileen Davidson is used properly and when they expose Yack they also discover Victor had John Abbott in a locked safe house all these years and he is alive and will right the Abbott ship.

Days of our Lives Star, Greg Vaughan, Gives Health Update and Thanks Everyone for Their Support

Greg Vaughan (Eric, Days of our Lives, ex-Lucky, GH, and ex-Diego, Y&R) provided an update on his health on Sunday, March 17th. Vaughan had previously shared that he had become ill during a trip with his sons to Colorado, and had developed altitude sickness when he was having trouble breathing accompanied by terrible headaches and landed in the urgent care.

Now on St. Patrick’s Day, Greg took to his Instagram and shared how he is feeling now, and to thank everyone for their love and support.  As it turned out, Vaughan was diagnosed with high altitude pulmonary edema, commonly known as HAPE. However, he is on the mend slowly and surely.

In his new video post, the DAYS favorite started by expressing, “I just felt such an appreciation and gratitude for everything. . reaching out. Your prayers have been felt. It’s been a struggle, but I’m over the top. And, taking this moment just to say I didn’t realize the things that I was going through. My (original) post was simply just to educate, put some information out there and some things that I was feeling, just share that information and the struggle that I was going through, which I didn’t quite understand. And it wasn’t because I’m stubborn or just because I’m a father, a man, and didn’t want to go to a doctor. It is just something I thought was so minor that I could overcome it, just by taking care of myself.”

Photo: JPI

The Daytime Emmy winner then revealed his actual diagnosis, “So, basically my situation was high altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE). With some good friends, doctors that had reached out to me, it kind of gave me some understanding on the aftermath, which was very, very beneficial.”

“But I’ve been resting, taking care of myself even though I live in a hamster wheel,” said the dad of three teenaged boys. “I gotta get up and, you know, do my normal domesticated stuff, eventually. I’m tired of laying down in this bed, but, I am feeling much better.”

Photo: GVaughanIG

Talking on his confusion of trying to understand what could have been ailing him, Vaughan expressed, “I couldn’t quite figure it out, even though I was emphasizing and professing to my children going on our spring break getaway about hydration. I professed it. But, even though I was acting on it, it had a greater effect on me, and for which I did not even think, because my head was such in pain, and I was in a very bad state of mind – not being able to be out there with my kids on the mountain, enjoying their time, as well. I thought I was doing the right thing. Unfortunately, my lungs were full of fluids and my head was in severe pain and even migraine pills didn’t even help. So, I just want anybody that goes into the Colorado Mountains to know, it is no joke. It is this very serious thing which I guess is why they call it the Mile High City.”

Greg had a mountain of ‘thank you’s’ to give for the outreach he received from his original post, “For everybody internationally, wherever you are, I love you and I appreciate you and just the time and the thoughts that you’ve shared with me,” said Vaughan. “I didn’t realize that it would make such an impression on so many people around the world. I feel tremendously loved and I can’t say it enough. I’m good. And I appreciate you.”

Photo: GVaughanIG

The actor concluded his video with, “To all the family and friends that have reached out to me, man, it means the world. So take care of yourself, enjoy your spring break with your families. It’s Saint Patty’s Day, obviously. I wish I could be out there.” Vaughan added, “I feel loved and touched and I can’t emphasize that enough. I’ll take better care of myself, promise you will do the same.” Before he signed off, Greg shared, “Just know, that I’m alive and well and breathing, and I’m sore. So, be well, take care. I mean it. Thank you, tremendously.”

Glad to know that Greg has been on the mend, and shared his appreciation for everyone that reached out to him during this trying time? Comment below.

Days of our Lives Star Greg Vaughan Shares Sudden Health Scare: “I Truly Feel Like I Work & Live in a Soap Opera!”

What started out as an adventure with his sons, quickly turned into a nightmare for Days of our Lives Daytime Emmy winner, Greg Vaughan (Eric Brady).

In a series of Instagram posts, Vaughan shared the sudden health crisis he found himself in.  The images show Greg with an oxygen tank to help him breathe.

The actor began to fill people, sharing, “I’ve said more than a few times, I truly feel like I work & live in a Soap Opera! 🤪 this trip was nothing short of another great Vaughan adventure!”

He went on to say that on a father and son Colorado spring break trip, he began to feel shortness of breath, feeling tired and with a headache and after two days of hoping he would feel better, Vaughan finally went to an Urgent Care to get checked out.

Photo: GVaughanIG

“I finally surrendered & went to urgent care and to my shock I learned that I was experiencing severe altitude sickness.” Vaughan admitted. “My Blood Oxygen was at 54% & my lungs were full of fluids! Blood oxygen, also known as oxygen saturation, represents the percentage of hemoglobin in your red blood cells that is carrying oxygen. Most people have an oxygen level of 95-100%….”

Providing more detail to his health scare, Greg shared, “Well, 4hrs later, a couple of bags of IV & oxygen tank strapped to my face, I was told that I needed to immediately get off the mountain! However I couldn’t, we still had another day to go & wanting the boys to enjoy their last day on the hill tops! I opted to go home with an oxygen tank, a good laugh for everyone, and I know will follow, but my boys looked after their old man & fortunately they had friends on this trip!”

Photo: JPI

The experience of altitude sickness in the Colorado Rockies gave Vaughan a bit of a new perspective, “In all seriousness, no matter your age, and all the times I’ve ⛷️ & 🏂 in my lifetime, Colorado Rockies is no joke! As they say, ‘ take a breathe and smell the roses!’ That is truly something we need to remember & appreciate! #recover”

Share your well-wishes to Greg as he continues to be on the mend via the comment section below.
