All My Children Casting News: Looking For "Vlad" and "Yuri"!

Courtesy/ABC

Now with all the casting calls going out of late for All My Children with seemingly unrecognizable characters unless they are casting “code”, just what will Prospect Park’s Pine Valley look like?  Most likely a mix of the old and the new, which could be intriguing for the new 2.0 online version. According to Soap Opera Digest, a casting call has gone out for two new recurring characters by the names of … wait for it …. “Vlad” and “Yuri”!

Here is what we know via SOD:  “Vlad, who is described as a 30-something, Easter European-looking man who is “willing to get down and dirty to get what he wants” and the “brawn behind a covert operation”, and Yuri, the powerful, confident businessman behind Vlad, who is in his 30s/40s.”

How will “Vlad” and “Yuri” be connected to story on AMC? What actors would you cast in the parts? Who would you like to see back on a soap? Weigh-in!

Vlad sounds like a Marick and Yuri could be Dimirti

Very interesting thought, my friend!

Oooohhh geez! I would love to have the ‘original’ Dimitri return!!
That would be awesome..
I did like him, a lot, a big lot, he was a strong character, and debonair sexy 😉

Van Hansis is in his 30’s and he was amazing as a Russian in “Nikita” last year. He would be my pick.

I do not think Van would be interested in doing this. He’s already doing a web series and wants a regular gig on primetime tv.

Im starting to wish PP would have just left the shows off the air. Most of the cast members arent coming back, & AMC is going to try & attract a younger audience, so the vibe of the show will resemble nothing what it once did.

Bite your tongue! This show definetely needs to come back. We don’t know who all is cast yet or what the stories are going to be really. So far we have a cast of 8. Long live AMC!

Please be Dimitri and Edmund!

They are ‘reoccurring’ so could be the start of a story..
AMC was dead in the water its’ last years.. (and I am a 30yr fan of AMC)
And now it has a bare bones cast of originals so I see many changes and that is not a bad thing. It needs a ton of modernizing especially now that it is on the internet were there is no censoring.. However Agnes will keep things a family rating.

In my mind; there is no actual AMC any longer.. It died with its’ cancellation and I am looking forward to new stories and a newer cast along with how many they get from the original cast.. and Opal (love her) and Dixie characters will not do it “)
So far; Hayward, Cara and her brother are the only good characters- imo 🙂
I do believe PP will use AMC to use their stories/ideas from the soap they were starting to produce for the net/TOLN when the OL and AMC became available to them. and used instead .

I really wish the writers the best of luck with the AMC reboot. The writers for the last few years of the network version left the show in shambles, and I’m not sure it’s really salvageable.

Perhaps Yuri is a recast Anton! I’d love to see Vlad/Dimitri too! 🙂

First I would like all the old cast back. Then if they can’t come now, I would like a space saved for when they could come. Then if all else fails, bring on new characters. I really need to see all my friends and family back on the show. Somehow PP needs to try their best to contact and secure all the previous cast members. There are some out there still waiting to be contacted. I know, I watch their post. Thanks PP for this opportunity. Still need to see Tad, Jackson, Jake, Krystal, and many others before bringing on a bunch of new people.

It sound stupid and another mafia storyline.

It does sound intriguing, Micheal. I actually enjoy the casting suspense, and i hope the end results make me feel the same way when we finally see AMC again.

Anton recast? And maybe Sam gray?

Adam, Erica, Liza, and Tad!

I don’t know but I think I like it. I liked Aiden ! Although I think Aiden was from Australia.

Sounds like Dimitri and his son Anton (who wad once married to Kendall).

Agreed. I wonder if they will have ties to Zach Slater through business?

i need bianca back .

I rarely watched AMC when it has on network, but just noticing the picture that goes with this article- am I seeing things but from a distance doesn’t it look like a shot of woman’s cleavage with the tile All My Children written across it? I know the old title of AMC was on the front cover of a book, and when I looked closer, I realized it was a still a book, just shot from the side– did anyone else see a woman’s evening gown with her boobs showing instead of a book? If so, it is pretty slick use of the iconic book image to make a sexy new statement about this new show- this is definitely not your grandmother’s AMC

Can someone confirm for me that AMC & OLTL will definetely be free to watch on line and that there are not any hidden fees. I just want to be sure! I went to Hulu and it says
a month & $7.99 a month…. That’s why I am asking if it is going to be FREE to watch OLTL& AMC .

Eight dollars a month would be outrageous. I want to watch them for free like I’ve done for years! I don’t want to pay to watch the soaps!

i agree with you Susan. i pay enough for cable and internet as it is. Gosh, in the 1960s i could watch over a dozen soaps on just 3 networks and it was free. now we pay a fortune to watch tv and with over 100 channels there are only like two or three shows worth watching.

from what I understand, both free and paid options will be available

You only need to pay for Hulu Plus. Regular Hulu is free. The only real difference for us is that with regular Hulu, you have a limited time to see episdoes of current shows, usually a week to two weeks. With the paid subcription to Hulu Plus, you have unlimited viewing whenever you want.

So rest easy, it will be free, unless you choose to pay for Hulu Plus.

Thank you both for the info. (Troy & boes).. I was getting worried about this. I didn’t want to miss them especially OLTL. Again thanks boes for all the information on Hulu because I am not familiar with it and how it works.

So far the cast for AMC doesn’t excite me, but only so far (with the exception of Dr. Hayward 🙂

Cara Castillo
Griffin Castillo
DR. David Hayward
Zach Slater
Opal Cortlandt
Angie Hubbard
Jesse Hubbard
Dixie
JR- recast
Cassandra Foster – recast
casting Vlad and Yuri

I can’t imagine what type stories will be written for that cast..

Wow…. it’s disheartening…. a “dammed” shame…. what AMC had….

from the above listing…

Cara and Dr. David…. should be exciting…. her being pregnant and involved with David…

Dr. David and Angie should; and is always… a coupe… this acting duo… run with it… whatever material they’re given….

I hope Dixie’s chemistry is their with JR….

————————-

for me… personally….

i don’t think AMC would be AMC without, minimally….. Kendall and Bianca. then Brooke…. so she can beacon pine valley… with Opal. heck…

I think it’d be better if some of the bigger names from AMC were integrated into OLTL. It doesn’t seem to me like AMC can make it if they don’t manage to get Susan Lucci and David Canary and Michael Knight. I want both reboots to be successes, but I truly believe OLTL has the better chance.

We won’t know what we get until we get.

When Agnes Nixon gave us ALL MY CHILDREN in 1970 it was modern, radical, new. Now, with a new way to see the show (on line) and being in a different world, it seems right AMC take the lead among daytime drama in reinventing itself (as many of us of this age do!). The new AMC will not be the old AMC, but there will be enough to give us a foundation for new stories and journeys. My hometown is not like it was. Core families and businesses are gone. Annual traditions have been lost or changed into something else. It happens in Pine Valley, too.

I do hope the new team can capture the spirit of Nixon’s storytelling in AMC’s heyday. The way she and her team created characters, focused on families, addressed social issues, and took time to really make us engaged.

The final years of AMC were disappointing. Not often does one have opportunity to fix things, so let’s be good fans and support this. If it does not work, then well, it does not work. But let’s not go into it without optimism.

Where are the open casting call?

There have been about four gals playing Colby Chandler and at least four actors that have played JR Chandler and four actors have played Tad Martin (although of course Michael E. Knight is most associated with the role) – I’m a longtime fan of AMC and I’m really happy the show is coming back, but we all have to accept the fact that this will be
a new inception. The actors can’t just drop what they are doing, especially since a good number of them already relocated to the West Coast when the show demanded it. Recasting is not easy, but folks, this is a TV show with characters played by ACTORS. If they want to maintain a semblence of the show’s former self, and have some kind of continuity and flow, then recasting is their only option. Gradually they will introduce new characters, but many characters have come and gone through Pine Valley, just as some people come and go in our real lives. I know we all have our favorites, I mean I really can’t see another Erica Kane, honestly except Susan Lucci – but, if we are to accept a relaunch of ALL MY CHILDREN, then we will also have to accept some changes.

Well said!!!

Even with the Easern European sounding names there is no way these roles would be Dimitri and Edmund. Remember the show is jumping 5 years into the future. That would mean Dimitri would be in his 60s and Edmund in his 50s. When they were on 20 years ago they were in their 40s and 30s then.

I’m super excited for this new version of AMC, I watched the show for the better part of 30 years. The idea of an original Internet series is very interestinting to me also, I’ve never watched one before. I don’t know how successful they are, I can’t imagine they get many viewers unless they have an established star or are a continuation of a previously broadcast story. So AMC would seem to have both working in its favor……

As for “Vlad” & “Yuri”, I would love to see Dimitri & Anton return. Anton could be recast ( he was on such a short time), but how great would it be to have Michael Nader return. He was such a strong, beloved character. Dimitri could also bring a child that he and Alex had, perhaps a grandchild also (son of Anton’s). So many possibilities here, some crossover stuff with Anna on GH, generate some interest for webcast.

My thought is that you can’t just introduce a bunch of young characters & expect people to watch. Soaps are not the same as Downtown Abby. People have a 30-40 year connection with them, but also a sentimental one. Their grandmother got them hooked, they watched all through high school, they scheduled their college classes around their favorite soap, they named their children after their favorite character……

So I guess what I’m trying to say is, PLEASE respect the rich, wonderful, unique history of AMC & use it to your advantage. And best of luck! I’ll be watching.

Carol Burnett Talks About Being a Superfan of ‘All My Children’ on ‘Live with Kelly and Mark’

In a heartfelt reunion, of sorts, the one and only Carol Burnett appeared on Monday March 25th episode of Live with Kelly and Mark.

Burnett had first met Kelly Ripa (Hayley) and Mark Consuelos (ex-Mateo) back when they all appeared on All My Children together. Carol played Verla Grubbs first in 1983 and then again in the 90’s.

Host Kelly Ripa (ex-Hayley, AMC) noted to Burnett that “we go back a long time”. She also described Burnett’s character of Verla Grubbs, “extraordinary in every way.”

Carol’s love for All My Children is well-documented, hence legendary soap creator, Agnes Nixon, created the role of Verla for Burnett.

Speaking on how her passion for All My Children began, Carol told Kelly and Mark, “It started with my kids. They would watch at noon. I said, ‘What are you guys doing?’ I sat down and I started to watch and I got hooked!”

When Carol’s family decided to travel through Europe during one summer, the comedic legend recalled thinking, “How am I going to last if I don’t know what’s going on in Pine Valley?” She revealed she had a friend, “who sent me a telegram to the (different hotels) on Fridays to bring me up to date.”

In a hilarious moment from the segment, Carol recalled receiving a late night telegram while in Lake Cuomo when there was a knock at her hotel room door from the hotel manager who was shaking.

Carol related what it said, “Erica is still in a coma. Mark slipped again and ran away from rehab.” As Kelly and Mark broke into laughter, Burnett continued, “Chuck has learned that Donna is carrying his baby, who was once a hooker.”

Check out Carol explaining how she became an AMC Superfan below.

Malachy McCourt, ‘Ryan’s Hope’ and ‘All My Children’ Actor, Dead at 92

If you watched Ryan’s Hope through its 14-year-run, you know that Kevin the bartender became a beloved “member’ of the Ryan clan on the defunct ABC daytime drama series. The character of Kevin MacGuiness became so loved by the fans because of the actor who portrayed him, Malachy McCourt.

Sadly, according to his wife Diana McCourt to The New York Times, Malachy passed away on Monday from a heart condition and battling cancer. The actor was 92-years-old.

Playing Kevin on Ryan’s Hope was not much of a stretch for McCourt, because in his lifetime, he was the owner of 1950s Irish pub Malachy’s on Third Avenue in Manhattan. Known as one of the city’s great story-tellers, patrons from longshoremen to the actor Richard Harris would stop in and talk all things Irish with . On Ryan’s Hope, Kevin was best friends to “Ryan’s Bar” owner, Johnny Ryan (Bernie Barrow) and he tried to keep Delia (Ilene Kristen) on the straight and narrow.

In his soap opera career, McCourt also was widely-known for his role of Father Clarence McCourt on All My Children especially come Christmastime. Was Clarence, actually St. Nick? That was always the proverbial question. McCourt also appeared on the New York soaps: One Life To Live, Search For Tomorrow and Another World. Other roles included: Devil’s Own, Brewster’s Millions, The Molly Maguires, and Starman, to name

Later in 2006, Malachy ran for governor of the state of New York as a Green Party candidate. He tackled social issues of the time including being an advocate for gay and lesbian groups to march in the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

McCourt’s childhood was recounted within his brother Frank McCourt’s Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir Angela’s Ashes, which detailed their mother’s attempt to raise the four of their surviving seven children in poverty in Limerick, Ireland. Later, Malachy wrote his own memoirs: 1998’s Monk Swimming, and 2000’s Singing My Him Song.

Malachy is survived by his aforementioned wife, Diana, daughter Siobhan McCourt; sons Malachy Jr., Conor and Cormac; stepdaughter Nina Galin; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
