Got to hand it to All My Children’s Vincent Irizarry (David Hayward)!  Over the last 24 hour, Irizarry took to his facebook page to recommend and urge fans and colleagues to submit the name of legendary All My Children and One Life to Live creator Agnes Nixon to become a Kennedy Center Honoree!

Irizarry posted: “Please read, everyone, regarding Agnes Nixon! Someone sent me this link this morning on Twitter to submit a recommendation for the next Kennedy Center Honors, awarded by the President each year to those who have committed their lives in excellence for the arts. Last year’s honorees were Dustin Hoffman, Led Zeppelin, David Letterman, Buddy Guy, and Natalia Makarova. I’ve already submitted my choice for AGNES NIXON, truly one of the great storytellers of our time, and pioneer of broadcasting in television, who has recently transitioned successfully, once again as a pioneer, from TV to New Media with the new incarnations of both  All My Children & One Life to Live for the internet. Join me in supporting our great national treasure, Agnes Nixon, by submitting your own recommendation for her to receive this illustrious honor. This could be our collective thank you to Ms. Nixon for all the years of joy she has brought to countless millions of us; throughout the many generations. Very few could possibly deserve it more!”

So how cool would that be for soap operas?  If you want to join in the recommendations to the Kennedy Center Honors for Agnes click here!

Now let us know, do you agree with Vincent that Agnes should be inducted into this elite group of individuals who have contributed so much to our culture and entertainment?  Share your thoughts!

vincent you need to get a new job my friend. all my children will be cancelled soon. i have a bad feeling one life to live will be gone too. horrible writing on both reboots. they are cheap reboots. sorry to say just cancel them. end the misery now please. i will stick to days of our lives and gh.

You speak for yourself, I completely disagree, such negativity!

I agree, We don’t need any negativity here, It is about Agnus.

Does your comment have anything to do with what they are talking about here? No it doesn’t. So what’s the point? This article is about Agnes Nixon .

Who cares about agnes nixon. mind your own business. don’t ever reply to me again. you started it. get a life man. i express my opinions here all the time. so have a good life.

YOUR RIGHT

All My Children is not going anywhere, And Vincent loves playing Dr. Hayward.

We soap fans waited so long to get our soaps back! I totally disagree with johnny’s
negative comments!

Just so people know, I am not the same “Johnny” as the “johnny” that wrote the above comment – I do think the shows need some work but I would never phrase it as the above person did nor would I tell an established actor he needs to “look for another job”. I often post on here and I do comment that the shows could be improved (writing wise) and with more familiar faces in Pine Valley but I think for the most part I try to comment politely.

Go find something else to do with your half-hour if you don’t like these shows! And please take your hateful words with you. Agnes Nixon and the others who are trying to navigate this new medium need our encouragement and understanding as they hit new highs and low, get things right and make mistakes. I am happy to support them!
And by the way…I made my recommendation of Ms. Nixon with glee. It was easy to do and she is SO deserving.

rodd you are a bully. anyone can voice there say here. if you dont like it. keep your mouth shut or dont come on this site.

david, nothing I said was “bullying”. It was a mere suggestion for someone making what I thought was a very negative comment about a wonderful person. Can’t see one “bullying” thing in what I wrote. However, I will not continue to justify my remarks to you in light of the tone of your words. I will simply suggest you think about what you wrote and then consider its tone. Good day.

I fully agree with you. It seems some people’s parents never taught them to only say something nice or don’t say anything at all. This is supposed to be a positive article about a great lady who brought us our soaps (that I’ve enjoyed literally my whole life) and people feel the need to get nasty. What purpose does that serve? If they don’t like the show, they don’t have to watch. But they should keep their negativity to themselves, and leave us real fans to support our shows and the people behind them.

Great honor for a real pioneer, from radio, to tv to the Internet. Thank you for the suggestion Vincent. Done!

Lets honor Agnes Nixon and get her to the Kennedy Center Honors, and to a win !!!!

This is the kind of man Vincent is. He is as warm, friendly, sincere and good-natured as he is talented. I love his idea and I’ve already submitted my recommendation.

We (the fans of AMC) would like to view the full five days of shows and please keep the language to a minimum say at the PG-13 level. We do not want it to go into the Rated R mode. Thank you.

”we” speak for yourself, only.. I’s be ok with it.
AMC is nowhere near a R rating, no worries, doubt they ever will be…..
There is no PG-13 rating on the internet, those ratings are not on the internet programming because there is no censoring on the internet..
You’d best stick to I Love Lucy, there you will find your happy place 🙂
The internet soaps are not for everyone, they reality cuss!!!
{{ maybe someone will get naked!! /wishful thinking..

I didn’t say AMC is Rated R! I just don’t want it to get at that point! You follow me??????? Ok..Sherlock… I’m trying to submit feedback here… The little words they use NOW are fine with me..that is considered PG-13!– even though you said there is no PG-13 on the internet!) Obviously, you sound very immature and I doubt it if anyone will get naked on the soaps because that would be considered porn!
In general, I like AMC just as it is right now.. I don’t want it to get worse with the harsh language AND mind you, I am speaking for EVERYONE!

Please speak only for yourself. The language makes this much more realistic and it’s not excessive, I would love five days, but I’ll take any days I can get, 38 years of being an AMC fan!

So annoying when people go off topic from the article posted. Your comment has nothing to do with what the article is talking about. This is about Agnes Nixon and whether she should be nominated.

Agnes nixon should retire and go away. she is a old woman. who has lots of money.

I did!! Agnes Nixon is the best writer of all time.

Don’t give up on OLTL and AMC! I just bought a new tv o I could watch them on hulu plus!!!

Never! Congrats on your new TV set, I love watching AMC on the flat screen via Hulu! I was happy to submit Agnes Nixon for the KSH, great idea and well overdue.

Absolutely!!!! I voted for Agnes earlier today. Her story telling is groundbreaking and she should be rewarded for all her years of hard work.

I voted for her , her soaps have given me entertainment for as long as they have been on, decades of wonderful stories.

I voted for her also! I agree with your comments!

I sent in my recommendation for the great Agnes Nixon ..!!

It would be wonderful if she got the award!!
She should get a life-time award!

Vincent you are such a warm hearted person and so is Agnus, I have put my recommendation for her already. I love the shows no matter where I would have to watch them, have watched them with my mom for all of my life. Even though she is no longer here I still watch them and getting my kids into them. They are wonderful. The new shows aren’t bad they just need to tone them down a little with words but yes that is the way things are today going down hill with kids not watching their behavior so it’s not just the show.

I voted for Agnes. She deserves to be recognized for her outstanding contribution to television and continuous years of service and hard work.

As a loyal Canadian viewer I think Agnes Nixon very deserving of such accolades.
Unfortunately little brother (we Canadians) don’t carry any weight when it comes to such things.

I’m Canadian too and was just able to submit my recommendation for her…

I continue to watch two fabulous shows since their inception ( over 40 yrs.), and the wonderful job you and your fellow actors do is apparent . I have nominated Agnes Nixon as well. I will take as many episodes of OLTL and AMC that I can get on any device it is available. Thank you Vincent and cast for great programing !

Already cast my vote!!

She should be a recipient of the Kennedy Center Awards, she is a pioneer in the field of Soap Operas. She has brought many things to light for the followers in her story lines such as aids, etc. She still continues.

I submitted my recommendation today.

Done

Just finished filling it out would love to see her horor.she deserves. to win .

I love AMC, but we need some of the original cast back & it should be on Netflex

thank you david i did it for agnes nixon she is such a wonderful woman again thank you

I am honor to vote for Ms. Agnes Nixon.

I agree Agnes is an amazing writer but I think Vincent knows he needs help from Susan Lucci for this. I also am worried, i have a bad feeling AMC might not make it and even more suspcious that Susan Lucci and her husband have a bad feeling AMC is not being run well and will be cancelled. Lucci is usually very business savvy. Prospect Park quit negotiations with ehr befor and it appears it was not money. I am wondering if Lucci doesn`t want to back a questionable deal or show. I think she is loyal to AMC but is worried about how it is being handled not to mention she has Devious Maids and Deadly Affairs.

To be honest, I’ve watched the show my whole life, and I haven’t missed Erica Kane for even a second since the reboot. I never really liked her to begin with, but I honestly believe the show is fine without Susan Lucci bringing that “diva” quality to it.

nope.

They won’t go for it. Soaps are looked down upon by the elitist organizations, especially any pertaining to the cultural life.

I submitted her name yesterday! It would be a well deserved honor for her, a true pioneer in the television industry.

It would be nice for someone from soaps to get such an honor. Don’t know what the requirements are.

People need to stay on topic, this is about Agnes Nixon not canceling All My Children. Vincent is such a sweetheart, so unlike Hayward..:-) I submitted my nomination.

jewell agnes nixon is a witch, cant stand her, she needs to go away and retire. agnes is getting senile just like you. all my children will be cancelled soon. anyone can voice there opinions here. the storylines and the writing is horrible. enjoy watching all my children for now. it will be just a memory like agnes nixon.

Submitted yesterday. Thanks for the article leading to the opportunity to submit. Keep the faith about te shows people.

I just sent in a recommendation for Agnes..she truly deserves it

Done! Here’s what I submitted:

Agnes Nixon is a true — the ULTIMATE — Daytime Heroine. First, she refined & defined the soap genre, then she virtually single-handedly ‘rode to the rescue’ — doing what even OPRAH said was impossible — and, in true soap form, brought them ‘back from the dead’!

I submitted my recommendation! I told them how Agnes has brought happiness and a sense of family to many generations, and she is very deserving of being honored for her talent and dedication.

He’d be better off nominating Susan Lucci instead. She’s more world famous.

Carol Burnett Talks About Being a Superfan of ‘All My Children’ on ‘Live with Kelly and Mark’

In a heartfelt reunion, of sorts, the one and only Carol Burnett appeared on Monday March 25th episode of Live with Kelly and Mark.

Burnett had first met Kelly Ripa (Hayley) and Mark Consuelos (ex-Mateo) back when they all appeared on All My Children together. Carol played Verla Grubbs first in 1983 and then again in the 90’s.

Host Kelly Ripa (ex-Hayley, AMC) noted to Burnett that “we go back a long time”. She also described Burnett’s character of Verla Grubbs, “extraordinary in every way.”

Carol’s love for All My Children is well-documented, hence legendary soap creator, Agnes Nixon, created the role of Verla for Burnett.

Photo: ABC

Speaking on how her passion for All My Children began, Carol told Kelly and Mark, “It started with my kids. They would watch at noon. I said, ‘What are you guys doing?’ I sat down and I started to watch and I got hooked!”

When Carol’s family decided to travel through Europe during one summer, the comedic legend recalled thinking, “How am I going to last if I don’t know what’s going on in Pine Valley?” She revealed she had a friend, “who sent me a telegram to the (different hotels) on Fridays to bring me up to date.”

In a hilarious moment from the segment, Carol recalled receiving a late night telegram while in Lake Cuomo when there was a knock at her hotel room door from the hotel manager who was shaking.

Carol related what it said, “Erica is still in a coma. Mark slipped again and ran away from rehab.” As Kelly and Mark broke into laughter, Burnett continued, “Chuck has learned that Donna is carrying his baby, who was once a hooker.”

Check out Carol explaining how she became an AMC Superfan below.

Now, let us know, did you enjoy Carol as Verla Grubbs? What show do you consider yourself a Superfan of? Tell us in the comment section.

Malachy McCourt, ‘Ryan’s Hope’ and ‘All My Children’ Actor, Dead at 92

If you watched Ryan’s Hope through its 14-year-run, you know that Kevin the bartender became a beloved “member’ of the Ryan clan on the defunct ABC daytime drama series. The character of Kevin MacGuiness became so loved by the fans because of the actor who portrayed him, Malachy McCourt.

Sadly, according to his wife Diana McCourt to The New York Times, Malachy passed away on Monday from a heart condition and battling cancer. The actor was 92-years-old.

Playing Kevin on Ryan’s Hope was not much of a stretch for McCourt, because in his lifetime, he was the owner of 1950s Irish pub Malachy’s on Third Avenue in Manhattan. Known as one of the city’s great story-tellers, patrons from longshoremen to the actor Richard Harris would stop in and talk all things Irish with . On Ryan’s Hope, Kevin was best friends to “Ryan’s Bar” owner, Johnny Ryan (Bernie Barrow) and he tried to keep Delia (Ilene Kristen) on the straight and narrow.

In his soap opera career, McCourt also was widely-known for his role of Father Clarence McCourt on All My Children especially come Christmastime. Was Clarence, actually St. Nick? That was always the proverbial question. McCourt also appeared on the New York soaps: One Life To Live, Search For Tomorrow and Another World. Other roles included: Devil’s Own, Brewster’s Millions, The Molly Maguires, and Starman, to name

Later in 2006, Malachy ran for governor of the state of New York as a Green Party candidate. He tackled social issues of the time including being an advocate for gay and lesbian groups to march in the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

McCourt’s childhood was recounted within his brother Frank McCourt’s Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir Angela’s Ashes, which detailed their mother’s attempt to raise the four of their surviving seven children in poverty in Limerick, Ireland. Later, Malachy wrote his own memoirs: 1998’s Monk Swimming, and 2000’s Singing My Him Song.

Malachy is survived by his aforementioned wife, Diana, daughter Siobhan McCourt; sons Malachy Jr., Conor and Cormac; stepdaughter Nina Galin; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Share you remembrances and condolences for Malachy McCourt via the comment section, but first check out this scene from a 1983 episode of “Ryan’s Hope” featuring the late actor with Ilene Kristen.
