It had been reported, it had been rumored, but no one knew for sure, now that eight-time Daytime Emmy winner Anthony Geary (Luke Spencer) had come forward and revealed through an interview with TV Guide Magazine’s Michael Logan, that indeed he has decided to quit General Hospital.

The actor will leave the ABC soap opera he has called home for 37 years at the end of his contract.  Tony will remain shooting at GH until the end of June and will be seen on air at least a month or so after that into the middle of Summer.

Frank Valentini, series EP said in a statement:  “Tony recently made his intentions clear that he would vacate his role of Luke Spencer this year, and it was a decision he did not come to lightly. After 37 years on the air, Tony felt this was the right time to bid adieu to Luke Spencer, Port Charles and General Hospital.  Anthony is our friend and a part of our television family, but, as difficult as this may be, we understand and respect that this is his choice. Rest assured, Tony has promised to be with us throughout the summer as we have some exciting things in store for Luke. The door will always remain open, so don’t think this is the last you’ll see of Anthony Geary or Luke Spencer.”

Geary related to TVG when he made his big decision: “This past January. [GH executive producer] Frank Valentini knew it was coming. They have done a magnificent job writing Luke’s story, especially with what culminated in the 52nd anniversary show, but where do we go after this? There are still some surprises, the usual twists and turns and interesting guest stars coming up before Luke leaves town, but where we’ve gone in these last couple of months would be pretty hard to top.”

As to why he is leaving at this stage of the game, Geary answered: “The people at ABC and at GH have been amazingly good to me, allowing me to live on two continents and treating me, for the most part, extremely well. This show has been a huge part of my life for over half my life and Luke Spencer is my alter ego. But I’m just weary of the grind and have been for 20 years. There was a point after my back surgery last year where it became clear to me that my time is not infinite. And I really don’t want to die, collapsing in a heap, on that GH set one day. That wouldn’t be too poetic. [Laughs] In fact, it would be poetically incorrect. I have another life and I want time to explore it.”

As for how Geary think Luke should be written-off the canvas, he offered up:  “For me, it makes perfect sense that he is left standing alone and that he must go off and find his purpose in life with whatever time he has left. His children are grown, and being a father and grandfather was never fulfilling anyway. It’s no longer fun to careen from adventure to adventure. He’s never had a proper job. What’s he going to do, become a bank manager? If I were in his place, I’d go to Tibet or Nepal on some kind of spiritual journey, even though he’s an atheist. He needs to be at peace. Or the other option is to just end it all, but suicide would make the audience very dissatisfied, and the network would never stand for it. Luke should make a contribution somewhere, maybe go to India and work with children or go to Africa and work with AIDS patients. That is the only thing I can see. He’s looking for redemption and a reason to forgive himself for what he now knows has been a really fun ride at everybody else’s expense. The logical and honorable thing for him to do would be to leave the people he loves behind, with the hope that when he sees them next he’s going to have something worthwhile to offer them. And, if he doesn’t have anything worthwhile, they’ll never see him again.”

So, what do you think of the news of the iconic Geary and the most lauded actor in the history of the soap genre quitting General Hospital?  How do you hope Luke is written-off?  Share your thoughts below!

not much to say except I understand what Tony is saying and I will miss both Anthony Geary and Luke Spencer terribly. They have been a mainstay on my tv screen for 37 years. General Hospital won’t be the same, but I think Tony has shared so much of his life with all of us he deserves to keep the rest for himself. He has given us his best, and left a life long impression on the soap genre. GH and all the fans were lucky to have him.

Well said.

First thing that comes to mind:

IT’S ABOUT DAMN TIME!!!! Buh, bye Tony!!!

Your ignorant and you dont belong on this site! This is a site for soap fans who have intelligent opinions. Buh, bye Leo!

I have NO idea how ANYONE could say what Leo says. – About damn time? That is an insane comment. He’s the best thing to ever hit the daytime world and has raised the level of soaps and set the bar HIGH for so many other actors who are in awe of him and aspire to deliver the kind of brilliant work he’s brought to viewers for over three decades. I can’t stand the thought of the show without him.

Leo – you’re not ignorant. I’ve had heard rumors (on and off) that he was retiring. I’m happy to see him finalize it.

And it’s selfish for people to say he should keep working. He is probably at the retirement age of 65+ and he wants to move to Amsterdam. Good for him for planning his retirement.

He deserves a rest and I so agree with you.

Thanks, Jane.

I’m a former fan of Anthony Geary but you would have to be brain dead to not realize he has brought nothing to the show over the past five years. Like Steve Burton before him, he’s just been phoning it in.

Leo…you really do have a right to be on this site…as we all do…and you have a right to your opinion…as we all do unless we start offending each other by whatever means. So…you have a right to not appreciate AG or care whether he leaves or not.

What I cannot understand, is how you could say he’s been phoning in his performance. His Luke/Fluke journey has shown him to be a spectacular actor…he had most of us despising and cringing from his portrayal of Fluke. To have fans who have known and loved him as Luke for so long…laughed at his antics, gone along on his adventures, had awwwwww moments witnessing his love for “cowboy “… His impersonations of one crazy character after another during his spy escapades…HATE the very same actor because his Fluke was so repugnant…is a pretty strong feat. He wanted to go out with a bang and he accomplished it…an acting opportunity to stretch himself..show the coldest, darkest side imagineable…and then bring it home again so that we cried for Luke.

Anthony didn’t phone in anything…he walked straight into the fire and stayed there until he thought it was time to extinguish it…he’s going out in a blaze!

I get Leo.
And have been a ardent admirer and fan of Geary’s since I was seventeen years old. I have said enough on this subject and no one needs to hear me yammer on anymore but two song lines comes to mind–“If you love someone set them free” (Sting)
“It’s better to burn out than it is to fade away” (Neil Young).

Hey, hey, my, my…rock and roll will never die.
Sorry, lost my train of thought.

I see people vehemently disagreeing with you, but I actually agree. It reminds me of the actress who plays Robin. It just gets to be hard for the fans when the actor is gone off the show most of the time. But I also have horrific back problems, so I gotta say, he deserves his retirement. It is so painful, and so very hard to be completely present when you hurt so badly. Back surgery doesn’t heal the pain. (I’ve had four.) It just makes it so you don’t have to crawl up the stairs like an alligator. For that, my prayers are with him. He deserves to rest his body. As MlA as Luke has been, AG has had a good excuse.

I agree.

Anthony Geary hasn’t been compelling since September of 2002 when Luke put Laura in a sanitarium.

Everything he’s done since — revealing that he cheated on Laura 25 years ago and had a child out of wedlock with Holly — getting drunk and killing Jake to face no repercussions — every single thing he’s put Tracy through — all of that has made me loathe Luke Spencer over the past 6 or 7 years.

Yes, Geary is a fantastic actor. One of the best but the Luke character is done.

I was upset to read the news but he has more then earned a peaceful retirement. I remember so many times of watching my Grandmother watch G.H. and then I started watching it with her and this was during Luke and Laura’s time to shine. I agree with his statements that they had a great love that was a real fairytale but they now are “toxic” to each other as a couple. I will miss him and I wish him all the best.

Very nice message Robert.

not surprised. this has been rumored in recent years. I wish him the best, and he deserves to have a peaceful retirement.

his exit HAS to include, his beloved sister, Bobbie (Jacklyn Zeman)

the one constant that stood throughout the Fluke storyline… was the energy levels played out with brother Luke and his treasured Little Sis : Bobbie

makes me tear up just thinking about

Yes but she could hang around for Lucas.

I new this was happening, celebrity Dirty Laundry reported it 6 months ago. Rumors are they will recast the role of Luke Spencer. Ron Raines ex Alan Spaulding Guiding Light can play Luke, he would be terrific.

I cannot see that EVER happening BUT as great as Jeanne Cooper was over at Y&R that role needed to be recasted. So you never say never but Frank sounded as if they will always welcome back Tony on his terms. Doesnt seem like they are thinking recast.

Daytime dramas are bit like Broadway plays that run for years on end, and in those cases, main leads get recast all the time and it is acceptable practice. So in theory every role should be fair game for being recast if the character is essential to the story.

However, the character Luke, I feel has run his course. I don’t really think there is much more they can do or have the character do that hasn’t been done. Also, I think it is a respect thing. Sports figures who are legends in their field when they retire, they retire their number. So it is in soaps, certain roles after being played by the same actor for more than twenty years should be taken off the canvas—

I don’t believe they should have recast Jeanne for that reason, but they should have created a sister or a relative of her character to fill that void– killing off Katherine didn’t mean they needed to kill off the whole Chancellor line– that was their mistake. Hopefully taking Luke off the canvas doesn’t result in the same short sightness– Spencers should be part of the show, it just doesn’t have to be Luke

Mary SF–what a great post. I so agree that they ought to have given Katherine Chancellor a sister. Think of how brilliant Erica Slezak could be as the new wanna be matriarch going toe to toe with Jill. Those two could make great rivals who secretly love and respect each other (think Vicky vs. Dorian from OLTL or Jill vs Katherine on Y&R).
We have not seen that kind of female rivalry for a very long time.
Naw, Luke cannot be recast anymore than Erica Kane could have been.

GH always rolled on despite Anthony’s extended vacations or sick leave. The Chancelors over at Y&R have come to a screaming halt without Kay. She should have been recasted, never with Luke.

A recast is fine for ANY OTHER CHARACTER. But NOT for Luke. Not EVER.

How bout Gary Busey as Luke Spencer?

(I say while running away frantically)

Harry, love the Gary Busey comment!

Idiot! They will NEVER re-cast Luke Spencer! There are certain characters that could never be re-cast, and he’s one of them. Especially if AG is willing to come back for short-term storylines.

“The door will always remain open, so don’t think this is the last you’ll see of Anthony Geary or Luke Spencer.”

That’s not nice, SZima. This is not kindergarten. We do not call other posters names.

Erica Kane, Victoria Lord, Reva Shayne, Adam/Stuart Chandler, Laura Webber Spencer, Brooke Logan, Victor Newman, Marlena Evans, Tracy Quartermaine, and Luke Spencer – these characters are so indelibly linked with the actors who portray them, they could never be recast successfully IMO. It would also be a true disservice to any actor attempting to take over any one of these roles. Talk about a blueprint for disaster.

What Cee Cee said!
Act your age, not your shoe size!
So there!

We may not all agree here but we respect each other and we dont call people names. CeeCee is right, this is not kindergarten, we have enough negativity in the real world! Be kind.

Sad to see an era end but the show must go on. Hopefully great scenes for Tracy.

I respect the fact that Anthony is leaving the way he wants to, as a few other soap vets have recently (Susan Flannery/Ronn Moss) done. He has given us 37 years of wonderful acting. GH will have true void with him gone and RC and FV will really need to work hard to fill that but I don’t think it can be done. I hope he enjoys the next chapter of his life and that GH will give him a respectful and good send off for the fans like us who have loved his work all these years and for Anthony Geary himself. ANTHONY WE WILL MISS YOU-THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

I will miss you TG. I am having a ball watching old classic Luke & Laura on YouTube.

Aren’t those the greatest?! Love the rapid-fire dialogue, the ad-libbing, the humor, the adventure, the LOVE between Luke and Laura. So much fun it brings tears to my eyes at times. Just watch Luke after Laura “disappears” in the water where he packs up her clothes–the beautiful pink dress she danced in with him at Wyndam’s–all the while hearing the strains of the song “We had it all, just like Bogie and Bacall.”
Great scene. Now THAT’S when Tony was great–not over the top like the recent Fluke story (ugh!) but genuine.

I was saddened to read today that Anthony Geary will be exiting the show. But I was glad to read that TPTB mention that we will not see that last of Luke Spencer and maybe Tony will come back someday. I for one as a GH viewer am truly sad, I was a child when I started watching GH, and have faithfully followed Luke’s character from start to finish, and even in the 1980’s when he was gone, I waited patiently for the return of L/L. He has earned the right to retire. I am hoping that he can come back from time to time. He should glide out joining Robert on adventure. Its just that ,, when I think of GH, its his character and acting that really is the best. My favorite memory of Luke is when he got Laura back in 1983, when Laura woke up in 2006, and when he teamed up with Helena this past year. Overall I cannot imagine Luke totally gone from the canvas.

he has earned his day out of the sun, so to speak. I know they won’t do it, but I think Luke should be killed off, so that no future writers or producers get the idiotic notion of recasting. He should die saving Rocco or Valerie from some dangerous situation.

Rocco, yes. Valerie…no. She’s not worth saving…especially at the expense of such an iconic character!!!!!

I only toss Valerie into the equation because her mother died saving Luke. It would be one of those full circle scenarios that they seem to love on GH.

And since when does “dead” mean “dead” on the soaps?
There would always be some idiot out there that would try to resurrect Luke, dead or not.
No, he’ll just leave and the door will always be open for visits.

“The door will always remain open, so don’t think this is the last you’ll see of Anthony Geary or Luke Spencer.”

Point taken, Kevin. I’m simply so disgusted and disappointed with this needless newbie that I would consider a precious few characters, let alone one as important as Luke, to be expendable enough to save the life of Val-Chops……although I certainly wouldn’t object to the notion of utilizing Sappy as a sacrificial lamb! That would be akin to an “even exchange!” LOL.

But Shay—she is an excellent spokeswoman for Aveeno skin care!

wow!
Tony will be more than missed!
I believe we knew the ”Luke Story” would be his exit ..
His vision of his last scene would be very rememberable..
I’m sure Tony will have a say on his last scene..

((I was wrong, I thought Tony would want to go out with a bang, and he will, just not the type I imagined)

Anthony Geary is a true legend !! He will not be forgotten..

(I believe someday in the future, he will give us a surprise short visit)

I totally agree with you su0000. I am SURE Tony will have a BIG say as to how Luke will leave. Only HE knows that character 100 percent inside-out, and whatever way he chooses to have the writers send him off, will be the RIGHT way.

Genie comes, Geary goes…..hmmmm?

She needed to be there for the Fluke story but it doesnt seem like Tony ever wanted L&L to reunite. He was a true fan of Luke and Tracy. So I guess it didnt really matter if and when Genie chose to come back, L&L were dead.

Given what he said for years about Genie being his “soul mate” in acting partnership and that he would always keep the character of Luke loyal to his great love, Laura, I would say that TG was a true fan to whatever was expedient to his staying on the show. But he seems to have come to his senses at this the eleventh hour as he decides to leave the show. NOW its ok for Genie to come on and ok now for Jane Eliot to get on to the business of being the vixon she used to be as a Quartermaine when Luke was, in Tracy’s words of yore–“something on the bottom of her shoe.” Remember when she couldn’t stand the sight of Luke–hated him vehemently? AND she used to be her own woman–NOT something for Luke to wipe his shoes on.

So the man finally comes out and says how he bullied the writers to make Luke into his own personal vision…. regardless of how the fans felt, regardless of how it impacted the careers of other actors. And apparently he didn’t even realize it until they planned Luke’s end. Guess I’ll have to keep my opinion of that to myself because to describe it as scathing wouldn’t nearly do it justice.

LOL, Elizabeth. You better rein your words and put a muzzle on them….OR, you will be persecuted on every site. Like a dog with a bone.
BTW…you have posted what I was thinking but too chicken to say it.

There’s several places where this is the majority opinion.

@Mary SF.

Hi Mary,
Catherine Chancellor was not killed off. Jeannie died in real life. The bosses would have never even attempted to re-cast the character….she is irreplaceable. But, I do agree that a long, lost relative should have continued the line.
Devon just does not cut it for me. They should bring Mackenzie back.

Heads up, writers. Here’s a storyline. Catherine’s will was manipulated by someone…..Neil? Devon? Anyone! ….when, indeed, the fortune was left to Mackenzie.

Luke is completely different…..there is Lulu and her progeny, albeit not a Spencer by name, but a Spencer, nonetheless.
Then, there’s Lucky. No one knows…he may be brought back. Oh, does Lucky have kids?

So true. I can’t believe the damage his massive ego and limited talent have done to this show.

Hi, boes….hadn’t heard from you in a while.

Agreed, that is the consensus. I have never tried to hide how much I dislike Luke/Fluke, especially because “things” had to be repaired (damage control) to accommodate the actor.
Nonetheless, no sooner that I say anything about the older and elderly cast, I get blasted as being ageist. Absolutely not true….we all age and gain wisdom. C’est la vie, n’est-pas?

Mr. Geary has many fans….that is their prerogative ….however, I do not want their accolades imposed on me. I have said he deserved the Emmy. I am fair enough to grant him that. My dislike does not negate his excellent performance.
Another thing that gets to me is when fans ruminate about the days of yore and their favorite actors/actresses not being on stage any longer. That’s justified…I agree, it’s great to lament the good old days. We all do it. Some of these fine actors have either died or want to retire. It is their privilege. It is the 21st a Century…..new actors, new writer, new direction.
I miss them too…especially Erika S and all the OLTL cast, not to mention AMC. I loved living in utero, but I had to come out sometime.
My feelings do not mean I hate the elderly. I love and appreciate my grandparents. That would mean I hate them because they’re older? Ridiculous. …Later, boes.

Limited talent? You can dislike the man but there’s no denying he was brilliant in his dual role.

I would suggest the line in the interview about bullying writers and producers was total tongue and cheek from Tony. I don’t believe for a second that he bullied anyone. I think it was his *wink wink* way of saying that there were certain writers and executives on the show that he didn’t get along with over 37 years, and that he didn’t always like the way the character of Luke was written.

But you can say the same thing for any actor that’s been on one show as long as he’s been. All I’ve ever read from the actors that have worked with him is what a generous and giving person he is on screen, and how much people want to work with him. I’ll take the opinions of the people that work with the man every day.

Tony Geary has been allowed to dictate storylines for too long, this guy does not have a romantic bone in his body! This is a SOAP, we women want the fairytale, we want to see Luke&Laura ride off into the sunset together! I will forever believe Laura is Luke’s “angel”, Tracy be damned! If it weren’t for Laura, most of us would never have cared about Luke. SHE is the one who made him likable. The Ethan storyline, in which we find out Luke cheated on Laura THROUGHOUT their marriage, made me HATE him! The writers need to do what is best for the show, what the WOMEN in the audience want to see, and that is ROMANCE. ESPECIALLY with Luke&Laura, the blueprint for all supercouples.

Lol, CeeCee. Perhaps it’s your referring to 50 and 60 something year olds as ” elderly” that’s offensive. Or saying Alexis has “over the hill cleavage”‘ or that she should be home “knitting Danny booties” instead of wanting sex. These are just a few of the comments you’ve made and continue to make. Are you genuinely not aware that those ARE ageist, judgmental comments?

Those of us 40 and over were all 28…I think that’s how old you said you were. I don’t know about anyone else but I don’t remember thinking the things you do about people who, really, in this day and age when people live into their 90s….are still relatively young. And that’s the word, relative. When you do get past 40, or 50….you’ll see….

Personally, I don’t think age comes into missing Luke. If he was 30 andwas with the show for 20 years and decided to leave, those I who were with him so long would miss the character. Just as many of us miss Kristen Alderson…because we knew her for so long. It’s about that…not ” old” people missing the past….

My sentiments exactly.

Well, here’s the thing about aging–it always has the last word.

I totally respect his decision–looking forward to see how they will send off the character, hopefully leaving the door slightly a jar for a return, if he chooses to. He had a long and fruitful career in daytime, and I hope he finds as much joy and happiness in whatever he does next.

Congratulations to Tony Geary. I wish him much happiness and peace in retirement. He certainly has earned it.

I wish him whatever he decides.

A good way to end the journey at GH: winning a prize, with a smile and moving on!

I agree! Bravo tony!

I am sad, but not completely shocked! I was not a fan during the show’s heyday…was a Guiding Light fan then, but I have to disagree with Geary…Luke needs to go off with Laura!

This is very sad news, but oddly enough, I am okay with it. Tony Geary is the best of the best when it comes to daytime TV, which he has proven again and again. He is THE staple of GH, and the character of Luke has left an unimaginable impression in the fabric of the show. It’s hard to imagine the show without him, but it also opens up some interesting story possibilities for certain characters, like Tracy.

Story wise, I kind of expected that this day would come. It would be nearly impossible to top the story Tony has had over the last year, and the outcome leads to a good exit story. Laura will likely play a part in it, which I look forward to, even if she and Luke don’t get back together. It would also be nice to get Jonathan Jackson back for a brief return to have one more scene between him and TG.

As sad as it is lose the character of Luke, and the amazing Tony Geary, I’m sure we will see him again for guest appearances down the line. Tony has definitely earned his retirement after serving 37 wonderful years at GH.

He is leaving on a high note…good for him

Jim, I think we’re on the same page here. I want him to leave on a high note to wash that awful bitter taste of the Fluke story.
Mind you, think Tony Geary is a brilliant actor and he’s given us a lot, however, I did not care for this confused maze of writing which was afforded to him. It was like someone had given the writers a write by numbers set for Christmas/
To paraphrase George Harrison from a Hard Day’s Night, he’s a drag, a well known drag.

Hey jimh! Where have you been? It’s too quiet on these GH threads without your thoughts…your absence has been particularly glaring on the past few topic pages regarding Duke and Anna. Hope all is well and that you will be back here soon!!!

ill…taking a break…did comment on live gh…a little better today…hopefully medical test will be good…ill return full time in June if all goes well…thanks…later

@jimh….Awww….sending best wishes to you for a quick recovery. Hope you didn’t mind my query….when you fail to post there is such a huge hole left in our discussions! You take care, get well and hurry back soon…you are missed!

I can’t imagine GH without Luke, other than Tony just being away on vacation…

I guess this means none of us will live forever… except in flashbacks. 🙂

I will miss him! That is for certain.

will certainly miss Anthony Geary, he has been in my life for 37 years…with that being said, I understand his decision, I thank him for the memories and wish him well. Luke Spencer will always be a part of GH and, hopefully, references will be made. Life moves on and it is time for Anthony to move on and tread the roads less travelled. His heart has been in Amsterdam for a very long time, enjoy the journey Anthony, your dues have been paid! xx

Not unexpected but … wow! Mr. Geary is a powerhouse of an actor. He helped redefine the genre. I hope the exit story is wonderful, a man accepting his life and finding hope for his golden years. I would love to see the family reunited and strong. No sci-fi. No crazy adventures. Just the drama of coming to terms, the romance of restoring lost loves (Laura!), and the challenges of making things right.

You say it well!

I cant imagine that show without him he is still electrtifying to watch, a master at his craft, but i understand being tired of that grind especially now I dont even think they rehearse anymore.

Good for him! He’s made his contribution, and nothing is sadder than soap actors who stay with their shows until their last breath. I applaud both he and Susan Flannery for getting out and actually enjoying the spoils of their success…

A great actor..I think he is very smart to call it quits and to retire..He is the lead actor and must always be part of front burner storyline..There is no way in hell Luke Spencer, can be on the back burner like most of his aging soap actors peers..His retirement from the show will actually benefit the show’s future..How much story does this character have left, like he said!!

Very sad news, but news that I think we all knew was coming sooner rather than later, given Tony’s physical health issues over the past year, and him getting up in age. It’s the end of an era on General Hospital. The best actor in daytime TV history, in my view, and he has the Emmy gold to prove it. Luke Spencer has been my favorite character to watch over the years. You ask anyone about Luke and Laura, and you don’t even need to say anymore. It didn’t get any bigger.

Tony Geary is a GH and soap opera institution, and he will be sorely missed. There will never be another like him. While I’ll miss him, I certainly understand and respect Tony’s decision, and I wish him all the best in whatever path his life takes next.

I hope they give him a great send off, and I look forward to seeing him share the screen with Genie Francis one last time.

It’s about time , now they can afford to bring back other deserving actors/actresses

im with you on that one

Who would that be Ric?

There’s real life and soap life. I understand fully his desire to slow down his pace and just enjoy his “real” life in Amsterdam. Personsl decision which he seems to have wanted to make for a while.

As for soapland…it’s sad to see yet another vet off the canvas. AJ, Duke, Luke..we barely see Felicia, Mac. Lucy or Scotty. Dumb decision to get rid of Ian if they knew Tony was leaving. They’re systematically cleaning house of the vets…when they should be holding on to the ones who want to stay…

As for Tony, I would have hoped he’d have a few words for the viewers who have watched him all these years…and an acknowledgement of how much Luke became a part of the viewer’s GH experience. That’s a long time to know a character… So far he hasn’t said anything…kind dismissive. Not cool…

I might not have liked the Fluke story, but that still doesn’t diminish the great contribution I feel Tony has made to GH over the years. Time for new adventures and challenges. I wish him well, and hope he will stop into Port Charles once in a while in the future.

This is a fair post Rose.

I definitely think Genie Francis has comeback for a story arc that will usher him off the canvas and hopefully true romance will reign supreme and Luke and Laura, daytime’s trademark couple, will ride off into the sunset together and reunited!!!!

richard….yours is the most sensible post yet. Tony’s departure is a fait accompli; therefore, it stands to reason that he and Laura bid each other adieu, at least. I think the writers have thought through this and decided to grant the fans their wish. Makes sense.
Are we sure Genie is staying, or will she and Tony leave together as you suggest.

@nancy dillingham.

Hi Nancy.
I am trying to figure something out here. Your name sounded so familiar to me…your writing exactly the same and reminiscent of another poster on this site, which will remain nameless, ….but, I could not remember where I had seen your name.
I was visiting my grandmother the other day, and there you were!!. Your name on the cover of a couple of her books, on the coffee table. I cannot be sure if you are she… So, I will ask you…are you Nancy Dillingham, the author of HOME and AMBIGUITY OF MORNING?
My grandmother loves your work. Are you she? If you are, I am pleased to make your acquaintance, albeit on the GH site. Is this your pseudonym or the other poster’s name. Your writing style and expressions are exactly the same.
I looked Nancy Dilingham up and you/she are/is about my grandmother’s age….75…. She says these are the best years of her life.
If you are not the Nancy of whom I speak, then , my deepest apologies.
I hope you get this. I do love the little of your work that I’ve read. Congrats, on some amazing stuff.

I definitely think Genie will leave with him, as she will still be needed on GH due to Lulu, Nikolas, and Lucky. There are still daytime couples that are ENDGAME: Sonny and Brenda, Josh and Reva, Ridge and Brooke, Victor and Nikki, Holden and Lily….etc L&L we on the cover of Newsweek back in the day, I think the writers will truly honor AG and his contributions. Laura can always pop in from time to time and reference Luke’s whereabouts, etc. I’m wondering how the epic fued with Helena Cassadine will end????

Cee Cee, I am indeed the author of The Ambiguity of Morning. How amazing! What a coincidence to “meet” you on this blog. May I ask who is your grandmother? Is she a friend of mine? A colleague of mine when I was teaching? BTW, I am 70 years old and have published 7 books of poetry and short stories–and, coincidentally, just got confirmation from Finishing Line Press that my newest chapbook of poetry is scheduled to come out on Sept. 4 of this year. Do I know you? I am simply blown away! A happy day to hear that someone likes my writing–writers always love to hear that. Thank you.

PS I have watched TG in everything he has done on TV, I think. Even watched him when he was “Spectator No. 1” (alongside Harrison Ford, no less who was “Spectator No. 1” on a Quinn Martin production–I think Mod Squad–and a passionate fan of Luke and Laura on the run, etc. I couldn’t wait to see the great chemistry and fun they had. That’s why I’d like to see TG’s “redemption” before he leaves; he gave me some great good times. I loved best his tenderness towards Laura, his sister Barbara Jean, and Aunt Ruby. He is not “a marauding angel of death” nor a “serial murderer” as TG characterized him in an earlier interview, and he never will be. As a writer also, it was painful to watch the subversion of the character of Luke during this whole Fluke fiasco.
Again, please do write again and let me know more about your grandmother’s having my book and who she is. You’ve got me really curious now. I live in Asheville, NC, and grew up in the small community of Dillingham (yes, that’s right) about 35 min. from Asheville. I taught at AC Reynolds High School and AB Tech Community College–as well as teaching poetry in the Great Smokies writing program at UNC-Asheville. Wow and double wow.

@Nancy Dillingham.
Thank you for replying Nancy. I am not at liberty to give you my grandmother’s name, and no, you do not know her. Your books were actually a gift from a friend.
Our family has a home on Martha’s Vineyard, and my grandmother has many friends there who are members of a reading and writing club….your books are very popular on the Vineyard.
My grandmother is a little Scottish woman whom I dearly love. Her memory is so sharp, she recounts the history of every soap she has ever watched….her accounts are so vivid and descriptive, the images and words dance before my eyes. Her sense of humor is quite something…..I never tire of her company.
I had actually thought you were another poster using a pseudonym, since she had once divulged she was in publishing.
It is refreshing to find that there is a bonified author amongst us. I must watch my phraseology from now on…LOL.
I wish you luck in your next endeavor.

CeeCee, thanks so much for responding to my inquiry. I am delighted to find I’m popular among the folks on Martha’s Vineyard–and with your Scottish grandmother. Please say “Hi” to her for me and express my appreciation to her for reading my works. She sounds like a lot of fun–and a remarkable woman. Thanks also for your good wishes.
PS My mother is also a remarkable woman–sharp mind–works crossword every day. She is 93.
BTW, you certainly have a great writing style–kudos to you. Have you tried your hand at writing seriously?

CeeCee….Speaking of your gran, I’ve been wondering if the two of you have been watching the excellent BBCScotland “Shetland” mystery series on PBS? It is based upon the novels of Ann Cleeves, and has been such a treat to behold…beautiful scenery, absorbing stories and superb acting! The first season is nearly completed, but I am already eagerly anticipating the second. When the show debuted, I thought of you, given your proud Scottish heritage, and have been meaning to ask if you had caught this fine program.

Cee Cee and Nancy Dillingham! Wow, this was one of those you-had-to-be-there-moments. But I was there! We were there. How terribly exciting,
This yet another example of six degrees of separation. (Nancy, are you related to Kevin Bacon?).
I am not familiar with Nancy’s work but will be sure to look it up. Great sleuthing, Cee Cee.
This once again demonstrates my contention that soap fans are not a group of illiterate dummies!

@Shay.

Hello, Shay.
My grandmother was born in Aberdeen…moved to Glasgow as a young girl. And, yes she does watch SHETLAND. She is so overwhelmed and proud by the show, she practically did a jig…LOL.
I have not really gotten into it, but I will in the third season as Archie Panjabi (THE GOOD WIFE)
will also be starring in the series, albeit I am so disappointed she left TGW.

@CeeCee…..I’m gratified to know that someone else is enjoying SHETLAND as much as I am…please send your gran greetings from a fellow fan of the series! It truly is a beautiful little gem of a program….not at all showy and overly-clever, but very absorbing and intriguing. The gorgeous setting is the real star of the show….so verdant, pastoral and mysterious, and those majestic cliffs and crashing sea! They all provide such a perfect backdrop to the compelling storylines. I hope you will find the third season of the series to your liking….I have never been into TGW, but if the addition of AP to the SHETLAND cast brings you around to finding the show as interesting as I do, then I’m all for it! By the way, it’s good to hear from you. I’ve lost count of the number of replies I’ve forwarded to you that never seem to materialize here. Just know that I always do my best to respond to your posts….actually, not just those written by you, but anyone who is kind enough to make comment upon my thoughts. Just saying….Later!

Maybe Luke & Laura will ride off into the sunset like they should!!
I will miss Tony but he’s been doing this awhile and deserves to enjoy the fruits of his labor!! You will be missed!!

Sorry to see him go, but I totally get his personal decision. Best wishes to TG!

Anthony Geary has had a remarkable run on GH.
And as an avid viewer I’ve enjoyed the ride, Thank You.

Anthony brought us so much in the 37 years he played Luke Spencer. Hope he enjoys his semi-retirement. Thank you Anthony Geary for the great ride!

hi
RC tweeted;
They are going to take Tony/Luke on a hell of a ride before he goes..

that will be a bumpy ride, for sure!!

Exactly. Luke and Tracy. So, why can’t some let Luke and Laura
go, Su?
I want to see Genie….hopefully Interminably, but that’s not realistic…..I want her , as I have already stated, to have mental sustenance in being her own woman……let’s hear her ROAR.

Promises! Promises! Again, I’m not getting my hopes up.

Going out on top, the man is a class act who will be missed.

I am sorry to hear this decision but i respect it . However i think that as respect to the fans who were loyal for so many years Luke and Laura should get back together and remarry . Luke can do his spiritual journey with Laura by his side . Fans deserve both a spritual and fairytale ending .

It is Luke and Tracy..
Luke move on with Tracy and left Laura behind in 1987 <– a very long time has past since Luke and Laura were together..
What once wad is no longer nor can it ever be again..
Luke and Tracy 🙂

Luke and Tracy have no romantic chemistry at all. I always saw the pairing as a replacement for Luke and Bobbie when Jackie Zeman was off the show. The way they bantered and argued it was more like siblings than anything else.

I really think Tony Geary had a lot of resentment toward Genie, for her choice to leave the show to focus on her family in 2002. Too bad, Tracy and Luke are great for comedy and to serve as foils for each other, and even as mature companions. But they will never hold a candle to the passion and chemistry of Luke and Laura. Remember when Luke dumped Tracy for Anna with all the care that one would use in taking out yesterday’s trash? That never, NEVER would have happened between Luke and Laura.

Luke and Laura are over, why tie down genie Francis to Tony’s retirement? Heck no horrible idea!!

you never know where your comment will be placed or who has posted before you if it
hasn’t posted yet..my comment above was in reference to CeeCee’s…

You are so tight, Aria. I do agree that this was/is an iconic couple….and, Tony got to his ‘pinnacle’ via Genie. Without Laura’s falling in love with him, Luke would have been yesterday’s news.
Many couples stay together regardless of their age difference. However when the separation between the love-mates has been from here to Timbuktu, the chances of a reunion diminish tenfold. What ended their romantic bond was distance, not the age difference. And, the Fluke phenomenon…!!!!!!!!
Luke has moved on….how many women after Laura?
It would not be fair to Laura to be stuck with an old man.

Oops…LOL, Aria….right, not tight.
PS. I also think, as I have already stated a few posts ago, that Laura should be on stage for Luke’s last farewell ..or should I say HURRAH!! But, I want her to stay ….there are so many potentially strong storylines to be had. It would be a shame if Genie makes this appearance solely for Luke.

I SO agree with you Nicholas, Luke & Laura are legendary, and if ANY soap couple deserves to end up together, it is them. If GH had gone with Luke&Tracy back in the day, it would have been canceled a long time ago. They have comic chemistry, not romantic. Luke needs to end up with his Angel.

Yes! And what does it mean to “win the most Emmys” if you have lost your most loyal fans because of your hubris? A hollow victory, I say. How does a show stay on the air of not for the viewing fans? How was GH saved? Gloria Monty and the writers put Luke and Laura together–and THEY saved the show.

But, alas, that was a long time ago, and TG, in the interview, seems to have finally stepped back and viewed the show/character with at least a modicum of objectivity. He says at first he was not happy with the proposed ending but now he is ok with it, that he realized he bullied the writers into what HE wanted the character to be. He says he would like the character to commit suicide but that he doesn’t think ABC would stand for that, that he could see the character going on a “spiritual journey” though Luke “is an atheist.” He even said that the character had used other people and that he hopes the character might come back with something to give back. Sounds like a huge turnaround for the actor. He calls it an “epiphany.” Belated, but I say better later than never.

@nancydillingham Exactly! I don’t know about you, but I don’t become a 30-yr fan of a show because of its Emmys. I watch because it touches me in the heart. I have gotten fed up and disgusted and quit watching, even for several years! But something always keeps dragging me back, and that something is LOVE. Even if it’s love for what these characters USED to be. TG needs to honor the sentimental love soap fans have for Luke&Laura and face the fact that he wouldn’t be anywhere NEAR the soap icon he is if it weren’t for Genie Francis.

I will keep repeating myself until you new viewers wake up! Genie Francis left the show in 2002 after she came back in 1993. She wanted a longer vacation like Geary got in 2002 but JFP would not give it to her so she GF opted her clause out and walked. They GF & TG had a great ride I have a feeling she will play some part in some exit scenes with him that is all why because she is a Class Act!

Someone said that ship has sailed.
I agree with Su and Aria and everyone else who feels Luke and Laura are no more…..for so many reasons. Too much time has gone by, for one. I have ‘educated’ myself on this couple’s past…its ups and downs etc. there is nothing left except that they share children and grandchildren.
I do agree with those fans who believe Laura’s return is cataclystic. She is here to ease Luke’s departure….after their great romance, it is only right for the writers to do this. It would actually be inconceivable for them to veer from it.
However, for them to reunite as a ‘loving ‘ couple would be suicide for Laura. Thirty-five years ago, Luke was in his prime….young. Laura a mere girl. The age difference was not a big deal then…now ? The difference is as wide and vast as the Mediterranean…….in just a few years, her main duty would be to change his diapers.

@maddiehayes….You are so right when you note that there would never have been a “Luke” without Laura, although the opposite cannot necessarily be said. GF always would have been a star on GH….she was already well on her way to being the show’s reigning sweetheart when the thuggish Mr. Spencer entered her universe. What many current viewers may not realize is that were it not for the unlikely chemistry between that lovely young ingénue and her quirky, much-senior, leading man-to-be, then Luke would have been but a minor footnote in Port Charles history, as AG was slated to portray his hoodlum character for only a brief spell….until the unexpected happened, and the “supercouple to end all supercouples” was born. Hence, despite all the well-deserved accolades that have come his way over these three-plus decades, in essence, Mr. Geary owes at least his initial success as Lucas Lorenzo Spencer to that effervescent teenager who helped spark the “Luke and Laura” phenomenon….a feat which, to this day, has been unequaled in soap opera history. For that reason alone, it would be unthinkable for Laura not to be part of AG’s swansong….she HAS to be there, along with as many of the “old gang” as possible. While GF’s presence may not portend that fabled happily ever ending that many so strongly desire, I am at least hoping that there will be a heartfelt, loving, emotional and nostalgia-filled reunion (with lots of flashback footage) between this seriously mismatched—yet still magical—couple that nobody could have ever imagined when Geary first step foot on the GH canvas. To walk away with anything less than a truly gracious and gratitude-filled Valentine to his loyal, long-standing fans would be unforgiveable on the part of AG.

I give up…

@Shay .. ITA, the thing is, Luke&Laura are iconic, and those who say – oh, they’ll never be romantic again .. it was a mere four years ago they had that romantic “vow renewal” and I’m sorry all you naysayers, but the audience bought it! Hook, line and sinker! I don’t care about all the garbage Tony Geary has spewed upon Luke&Laura and the character of Luke. It’s time to fix it. I always love watching the last episode of a long-running soap, because everybody gets their happy ending. No matter WHAT has gone down with them in the past. Look at Josh&Reva, GL, riding off into the sunset together, I wasn’t even a fan and it made me cry. That is what GH needs to go for. The heartstrings. If these writers can’t do right by LUKE & LAURA, they can’t do right by ANY couple. Those of us hoping for romance on this soap might as well quit watching right now.

I wish I could repeat Shay’s post but suffice to say, what she said. Most of us Luke and Laura fans know that their love story cannot settle down within the confines of reality. As Tony Geary said, “Luke and Laura are toxic to each other.”
We accept that Luke and Laura will not live happily ever after but that knowledge is not negated by our desire to see some kind of validation, some kind of respect, given to this former super couple of the 80’s with Tony Geary’s exit.

My “surrender” was in reply to CeeCee’s yet again age- related comment. But I’ll add something else. If two people love each other the way Luke and Laura did…had they not drifted…had circumstances, tragedies, other loves (Tracy) not come into play…their age difference…I believe 15 years…would not have been THE issue..that would have pulled them apart. Both had tragedy, emotional breakdowns…but it was always Luke who was the one to keep up with. It was the “younger” Laura who wanted to settle in one place, be domestic, conventional…it was Luke who had the energy, the drive for adventure. Had they stii been a couple in present day…even if Luke slowed down, they would have been compatible given Laura’s mature, mellow personality. AGE would not have been their downfall.

I’m going to miss Anthony Geary sooooo much. I really don’t know what to say but I wish him the best.. I pray now that the show does not tie his exit with Jane Elliot’s and Genie Francis, now that the show knows no more Luke , they’ll give these two great actresses stories of their own because each plays characters that stand on their own and don’t have to be tied down to Luke. That’s my wish moving forward…

I’m praying Genie wasn’t just brought on to usher tony out and hopefully now Laura gets a second act and we get to see her characters journey without Luke. They can bring Stephan back too. Luke and Laura will always be connected through their children so that should be sufficient enough, down the line then we can hear through their grandkids that they ended up reuniting but that should be decades from now.

I hope you are right Aria! I sure hope that Laura and Tracy get to stay and have their own stories without Luke.

Yes, Aria, same here. In the above post I forgot to say that, although Genie will help in seeing Luke ‘out’, I hope and pray she does stay and not leave with him or soon after. I consider Genie’s arrival ‘coincidental’ with Luke’s departure.

Totally understandable. Taking a page from the great Susan Flannery. I wish him all the best.

This just breaks my heart but I am happy, he gets to go out on his terms and live his life anyway he chooses. For all you Fluke naysayers, enjoy the news, if your a fan of the show you’ll see how big of a hole is left at GH without Luke Spencer and Tony’s legendary talent as and eight, and possibly nine time Emmy winner. I love this guy and I am sad today.

sorry people but if the big guys at general hospital use genie francis as laura to send luke off into the sunset and that is all they are bringing her back for,,general hospital will be over…im so dam sick and tired of them useing lauras comebacks to get people to tune in to general hospital, only to have her off the canvas in a few weeks again,,,i feel suckered right in for tuning in only to see again once more they fooled the audience..

maybe genie doesnt want to stay on? Maybe she came on to end tonys story as a favor to gh? L&l forever

I think you’re right about this, because General Hospital does seem to be moving on that path (over). Genie deserves to find a new venue.

“… use genie francis as laura to send luke off into the sunset and that is all they are bringing her back for ”

have to gavel this

Genie Francis, last return… was so dismal… and disappointing … going to a doctor in Europe ? and never to be seen or heard from again?

I did not watch Luke and Laura …. I chose AMC over GH… so I do not have a vested interest in this pairing

by all accounts pro and con…. It just seems clear… that Luke and Laura never were, are, or will be… just saying… keep the past in the past… and remember the contributions that escalated this genre

I was watching Y&R when Genie Francis was Genevieve… I was riveted… AND, “floored” by how enigmatic and driven her acting REELED

if GH… brings her back full time… then bring her back… as a full fledged womanhood… her own

FINALLY!

ie: let’s say… Luke… while “recuperating” has a mental relapse / seizures… or never finds his way back… OK this is pushing it… but he has to have a lobotomy and is rendered brain dead? coma’itis

this is when Laura would be welcomed… replete with flashbacks to recall the dynasty

she ushers him to a rehabilitation facility

and the audience whet and forward with … Mrs. Laura Webber-Spencer

what if Luke… in all his goodness… was squiring away … with all his escapades… bequeaths his “first” love… Laura… with ??? ownership of GH hospital… or something to give her power, position, and force to be reckon

I just can’t see these two reuniting and leaving off in to the sunset… IF AG didn’t want it… and history speaks for itself… why ruminate on “disney-esque” happy ever after?

@Randy : to see Laura reduced to this…. is worse than seeing AG leave the show… of his own accord and agenda

hey: I’m so glad this leaves the door open for Jane Elliott’ Traci to “at last” dance… explore… sojourn… HER heart

when daddy died… she lamented… she will always search for the love of her life… dang! I wish Joe Scully 3rd was alive…

I wasn’t watching during the Luke&Laura days either! But I still love them and honor them because they started the whole supercouple genre! If it weren’t for them, there would have been no Frisco&Felicia, no Bo&Hope, no Patch&Kayla, etc. etc.! Love on the run! Saving the world together! Who doesn’t love that formula? MUCH better than creating conflict by bringing in third and fourth parties for them to cheat with.

I guess Genie will come and get Tony and they will ride off into the Port Chuckles sunset as Luke and Laura.

Thanks Tony for 37 years. You will be missed…

Now, get some rest. LoL…

Yes, this is how it should end. Luke and Laura should have one last dance in the dept store, and hop into a convertible and ride off into the sunset. With the tied up Helena in the trunk.

I like it!

im all for it and hopefully tony wont dictate the end. Hopefully valentino will give L&L fans what they want. Sorrt Tracy, but Laura is and will always be his true love!

Luke hop? Hmmmm. That’ll be something to watch. What an Herculean feat !!!!!

Finally, the last of this blowhard.
We’ve had to watch the show pander to his tantrums for far longer than his limited talent held out.
He won’t be missed.

oh i bet the show would rather have him stick around then have you as a viewer, so why don’t you take a hike, you won’t be missed!

not nice aria,,every one has a right to there opinion and shouldnt be attacked for it…now calm down

I agree with boes. So glad TG and his ego will be off my screen.

I think it very interesting that TG says, in another interview I just read, that he had an epiphany that the character of Luke is not his, but belongs to ABC and to the writers. I would go further and say that it also belongs to the AUDIENCE/VIEWERS/FANS. He says also that he cajoled and bullied TPTB re the character and now realizes that was wrong.

I do hope TG the actor can find some peace. He often seemed angry and ambiguous about the character of Luke. And he got so close to it that he rode the character right off the rails.

I hope he will allow the writers to find some redemption for Luke–and somehow restore the character for the AUDIENCE/VIEWERS/FANS who have suffered along with the actor and the character. That would be poetic justice, for what is a character/actor without a viewing audience? I have been a devoted fan of TG through all of his roles, beginning with Luke’s predecessor that TG played on the soap “Bright Promise.” I would like to leave the actor as a fan. I hope Luke’s leaving (and the actor’s leaving) allows that.

Mr. Geary – Thanks for the memories! Enjoy your well deserved retirement.
Michael – Thanks for the article!

Nobody’s a bigger fan of Tony Geary than Tony Geary.

Knew this was coming, and take it from someone who just retired — you don’t want to die in the harness. I say good luck to him.

No, I wouldn’t want to see the character recast.

But I would like Luke to ride out of town and into the sunset. Literally. Behind the wheel in a fatal hit-and-run with the victim being Sonny.

aha jimbo, you are so sentimental ..
Luke and Laura’s age difference is too much…
Laura was 19 and Luke 38 on their wedding day..
Now, the 20 years age difference is very noticeable..
Tony could be her father ..

Tony has said ” Luke and Laura have run their course ”
There are no intentions of reuniting them .. it will be more as a family thing..
(Tony does not want to be reunited, and that has been said, and they will not do that to Tony, not gonna happen..

really don’t understand your reply — I never mentioned laura.

Stories are timeless–and actors can be “ageless.” It’s called acting. Look at Julie Harris, Meryl Streep, and, as I posted before, look at all the “ageless” greats who played onscreen and onstage. It’s the storyline and actors that make the difference–“the play’s the thing.”

Maybe he and Laura could ride into the sunset in the pink Cadillac! Wouldn’t that be fun?! !

Welcome to my world, Jimbo. You could write, “Hey, Luke! Don’t let the door hit ya!” and someone is going to come in and say,”Laura is his past–they’re over.”

I really liked this interview! One of my favorite things is reading what an actor wants for his character, and I think his ending for Luke is perfect!!! I love reading actors’ opinions for their characters because they know the characters so well. I’ve really enjoyed reading Sharon Case’s opinions about Sharon Newman, and EB’s for Victor Newman. AG really knows how Luke thinks, so he can absolutely see him as suicidal, and as much as that would suck for fans, it’s a good glimpse into how Luke’s so traumatized from his own actions. It’s like reading song lyrics and then finding out what the lyricist REALLY meant. I know it’s different because the character wasn’t originally created by the actor, but it helps you see how they’ve gotten into understanding the character so they can justify the behavior. It’s cool!

I fervently believe that TG got so close to Luke and so used to getting his way (by his own admission in the interview) that he lost all objectivity–calling the character of Luke that he crafted “a marauding angel of death” and “a serial murderer” got so far from the real character that he went way over the top–and lost his loyal fans. Here’s hoping the end game for Luke, as conceived by the writers, can redeem the character and, at the very least, give the loyal views a crumb to remember the original character they fell in love with. I’m keeping my fingers crossed, against all odds. Would be so tragically sad for the viewers who have invested in the character all these years to come up empty-handed.

Lordy!!! I just got home after most of the day away from MF. Read some strong words and opinions. Maybe it’s time to take a deep breath and lighten up about both GH and each other. This doesn’t apply to everyone of course…I like the different points of view and the “educational ” value of comments they bring to the table. It just seemed some were a little worked up with this story…and even the one on the Nurses Ball. Maybe part of this comes from how personally we can get attached to our soaps, and maybe it’s just one of those days. Happy Mothers Day…even to Jiml

Rose, I think it DOES come from getting attached to the characters–and isn’t that a good thing? GH would have bitten the dust in the 70s if we had not had the Luke and Laura story–and good writers to make it possible–even TG and Genie both have stated that it was the WRITING and the stories that the writers developed (Left-handed boy is cited by TG and Genie as their favorite with all it’s twists and turns) that sustained them and helped GH to soar in the ratings. I say also that it was that chemistry–and, as TG says, good acting that worked the magic. And magic it was–THAT’S why we were so wrapped up in the L and L story–and all the humor and ad-libbing, etc. We could not wait to see what would happen next. Yes, we CARED about the characters. Isn’t that what one does if they read a great novel with great characters and see a classic movie or stage play? Alas, we no longer care about the Fluke character–too dark, too evil, too unrelentingly evil. No fun. No caring. Genie Francis and Tony Geary can just look at each other and instantly we care. That’s what makes good drama.

The attachment can also be like extended “family.” And we know what families can be like…loving, critical, protective, jealous, not all of the clan on the same page, can make you smile or cry, etc. Soaps can also be a chance for reflection. What would I do or not do under certain situations? Like Sam…should she tell Julian Olivia’s baby is his or not? Luckily we have a place like MF to express our thoughts. Just thought it was getting a little too serious the other day for some, and maybe a time to “breath.” I also always blame it on the weather when it get’s too intense.
Found your comments with Cee Cee really interesting. I work part-time in a bookstore. Obviously a changing, challenging time for readers, publishers, retailers, and authors like yourself. As a writer can you imagine having to keep a storyline and characters fresh and relevant year after year, five days a week?

Not any longer, Nancy. One look into Luke’s eyes, as they appear today, would send her into fits of yuckyness. Those lashless orbs scare the living blank out of me.

More of the Story on ‘General Hospital’ Star Josh Kelly’s Latest Film Role in ‘The Workout’

We had previously shared that General Hospital’s Josh Kelly was taking three weeks away from his role of Cody Bell to a shoot a role in an upcoming movie entitled The Workout.

Josh originally revealed his role in the film during an episode of GH castmates, Steve Burton (Jason) and Bradford Anderson’s (Spinelli) podcast.

Now Deadline has filled in some of the blanks, and shared some intriguing intel on the premise of the film and its back-story.  The film stars Kelly along with Peter Jae, and UFC Fighter, Ashlee Evans-Smith. Other cast members include The Bay’s Kristos Andrews.

Photo: ABC

In The Workout, two army rangers set out to create a workout video, but their plans are abruptly halted when a mob hit interrupts their filming. Tragically, one of the rangers loses his wife in the attack, sending him on a relentless mission to take down the mob and anyone who stands in his way.

The film from James Cullen Bressack, almost did not get financed.  Apparently, ten days before his birthday, Bressack made a post on Instagram about the feature and production, casting, and financing came from the post … illustrating the power of social media. After the post gained traction, a producer provided financing and actors expressed interest in joining the project, leading to a quick production.

Photo: ABC

In a statement, Bressack shared, “As artists a painter paints, a musician makes music, a writer writes, but as filmmakers we have to ask permission to create. It’s time to change that narrative. This film spawned from a necessity to create. We create. We tell stories. We play pretend. I’m excited to take this journey. This is the truest form of collaboration and a community of friends coming together to make something fun. While our industry has had a rough time recently with strikes and a possible strike looming in the future, it’s nice to remind ourselves why we got into film to begin with. To have fun telling stories.”

No word yet on when The Workout will be released.

So, looking forward to seeing this collaborative effort featuring GH’s Josh Kelly? Comment below.
