BREAKING NEWS: DAYS Shake-Up! Josh Griffith Exits and Ryan Quan Named New Co-Head Writer!

There was a major development behind the scenes at Days of our Lives revealed on Thursday.  Josh Griffith has left the series as co- head writer, and has been replaced in the position by DAYS staff writer Ryan Quan.

In an official statement from the daytime drama on the writing change at the top, it reads: “Days of our Lives is pleased to announce that staff writer Ryan Quan has joined co-head writer Dena Higley to form a new head writing team.  Josh Griffith has left the show to pursue other projects and interests, and we wish him the best.”

As for Quan’s resume, Ryan started at DAYS as a writer’s assistant in 20o8, became a script writer, and went to be the DAYS associate head writer by 2012,  and has comprehensive understanding of the lives of the people of Salem.  Ryan started his daytime drama career as a script typist on the now defunct Passions, back in 1999.

Griffith came aboard the NBC daytime drama series along with Higley to reenergize the show through its 50th anniversary storylines.  Their episodes began airing late August/early September of 2015, and they replaced outgoing co-head writers, Gary Tomlin and Chris Whitesell.

So, what do you think of Ryan Quan being given the reins as co-head writer?  What do you think about the exit of Josh Griffith? Share your thoughts on this breaking story below!

Truly shocking. Josh’s material has been incredible on DAYS OF OUR LIVES, and he really is a great choice of head writer. I can’t help but feel like there were creative differences behind the scenes, and that there was a struggle over how to tell story. I have to believe that NBC / Sony Pictures Television / DAYS OF OUR LIVES are making the right decision by bringing in Ryan Quan into the position as co-head writer with Dena Higley. Time will tell, because I am in love with DAYS OF OUR LIVES right now.

Are you scott? Ciara being raped, and you love DAYS. The soap needs better writing. Days sucks right now, hopefully that changes.

It’s reality..
as I write this women are being raped, it is reality..
Rape has always been a pin of soap writing since the 70’s..

((now many more have been raped as I finish writing))

Too much violence for me.

I agree with Connie – DAYS is just AWFUL right now, the writing is dreadful and I really just don’t plain “care” about Belle and Phillip, their storyline is as dull as can be.
Maybe some people weren’t crazy about the characters of the more recent past, such as Paige, Eve, Will, Sonny – but I did. I thought the storylines were edgy and interesting. Right now, I really (currently) don’t think the show is that compelling.
Maybe a new Writing team will shake things up.

You have to be joking Scott. This show is nothing but death, violence, and now teen rape. It’s disgusting.

I’m just as surprised didn’t see that coming. .apparently they just don’t trust Higley on her own and the show was getting wayyyy too dark and gloomy. So much happened so fast the DAYS were running into each other and two weeks at a time.

I agree, scott. I’m really enjoying the darker edge. light, winsome romance isn’t something days does well. aside from some questionable teen acting choices, days is moving quickly and is totally engaging.

Of course you would. 666 speaks for itself. WOW and double WOW….LOL???????

Uh, Scott…ARE YOU CRAZY?!?!?!?!?! DOOL is F-A-R FROM INCREDIBLE right now!!!!!! No, no and more no.

Well, i will have to wait and see…i dont like all the gloominess in the story but Days is still a lot better than it used to be…and the best serial right now…hope he will manage to keep the ratings up…but the show needs to tone down all the violence…wonder why the writing changes…anyway, i will have to wait and see.

OK.. I need some one to commiserate with… “thank you” Jim

I never kept up with who was who behind the scenes… I’m much better in the moment.. and rolling with this 5 days a week cycle and train

argh! having read past comments… ie: I’m not fond of Dena Higley !!!! ??? i’ll keep this to a minimum… but… her homophobia is a clear signal to me.. that I’d much prefer it was she…. SHE who was let go… and that she’d keep her Christian morality to a minimum and kept out of the workplace.

it’s stunning to me.. that she makes her personal values known… and that I’m surprised that NBC / Sony / Ken Corday Productions would allow this to be

for a show to share all of our LIVES daily… it just doesnt’ follow that she’d be even considered

OK… Josh Grifith… I was really interested in his point of view… or am I ? who’s at fault for letting the gay characters that were celebrated kicked to the curb? is Chandler Massey coming back ??? to revive his beloved character… that… and the rehiring of Kassie DePaiva.. would go a long way in overlooking the dissatisfaction

“ok, i’m frustrated at the turn of events … DAYS has allowed the show .. in the vast majority of posts… to spiral… and loose track.. I WANT TO BLAME KEN CORDAY”

Josh Griffith brought DAYS past the 5oth.. and now… with Dena Highley track record… and this new person… Ryan Quan ???

they have ??? a year to bring it all together… Ryan and Dena shared production?

Cheers fellow Salem’ite

Days of OUR Lives and General Hospital… in transition near or at the same time; last year.

Days of OUR Lives… started anew; last August, 2015
General Hospital… started anew; last September, 2015

I certainly wasn’t pitting my two shows against each other.. but it was certainly fun to keep up with POSTS regarding each show out of their respective starting gate

WOAH ! stop the presses

thinking that my shows are a 365 day program… LOL keeps me in check ?

Very surprised by this move. Impressed with “Days of Our Lives” these past few months and it doesn’t seem like the time to make a change. It will be interesting to see how things pan out. Congratulations to Ryan Quan.

Guess they finally figured out what fans that have stopped watching already know; that Days sucks and is not remotely entertaining! I havent looked back and welcome my hour back! PR brought me back but no stories on that show could keep me. Good luck in their final year on air but from what I just read @ Ciara getting raped, I’m guessing more fans will leave. Cya~

ok–

”Griffith came aboard the NBC daytime drama series along with Higley to reenergize the show through its 50th anniversary storylines.”
” Josh Griffith has left the show to pursue other projects and interests, and we wish him the best.”

That says ^^
Griffith came to Days to-
” reenergize the show through its 50th anniversary storylines.”

and now he is done and left-
”to pursue other projects and interests”

I wish Griffith still had interest in soap writing and would come to GH along with Ron..

Bro….give up the dream of Ron returning. And secondly, NO woman in her right mind would enjoy and defend rape storylines as an important part of a show, AND gleefully point out how many women are being raped as we type. You are one twisted dude!! I just want everyone on here to know you are NOT a woman, so then your posts will begin to make a little bit of sense.

Amen and Amen!

Dylan, you mean I have been calling ‘him’ SuzieQ? How can you be sure? I feel like an idiot. Maybe su0000 is trying to rile us into controversial conversation; which could be a good thing, no? I don’t know. I am stunned, Dylan.

Dylan, what a twist su0000, is really STAN! Wow this is better than anything on GH right now!

Thank you, at least I know I am not the only one who believed suooo is a man. When I first came to this site a couple of years back I just assumed he was based on his comments and his comments to me, but then everyone started refering to him as she, and suoo identify herself as a woman, so I thought okay this is one twisted woman, because even the most masculine women I know don’t think the way he does. But woman or man, suooo keeps things interesting with the comments suooo posts-LOL

Yup…Su is a MYRON, not a MAYA. Tangled webs around here!! LOL.

Wow! It seems since I started reading DOOL comments there has been disappointment about recent stories. Maybe this was the cause of Josh “leaving.” I just hope this is the end of the rape story.

Too late to just drop the rape story…Ciara will either be pregnant or do drugs and alcohol…they will have to deal with it…they just cant continue it like it didnt happen…i wish they didnt go there.

I have faith in the new change. I’m glad they chose someone who knows and loves the show. DAYS has been on fire lately. I hope they bring it back to a more basic shooting schedule this 6 month ahead just isn’t working.

What’s happened to Beth Milstein? Fans hopes were riding on her!

How can Dena be back?!!*$!!

Fans know Dena wasn’t there at Christmas, due to a production assistant instagraming a photo of a Christmas card printed with the signatories of the producers and “Josh and Beth”, (and no Dena).

Fans have been hoping that Dena’s reported “leave of absence”, was her being fired before he stuff had aired, and Days feeling the need to conceal that.

ALL of the homophobia-pandering regime need to go. Dena was head-writer when that hatefulness went down. How could NBC possibly authorize her renewal? This is insane!

I’m so extremely disappointed that Dena is still there. Just when I had hope they’d have gotten rid of the trash the way HIGLEY and josh believed they were doing when they slaughtered Will and had him carried in a bag. Well, the news is Will wasn’t the trash in all this mess. He was an iconic and important legacy character. The trash was the writers and show producers who thought they’d get away with it.

Oh, don’t forget Dena’s Facebook interview while she was on leave where she talked as she hated the show anyway except for Rafe, of course.

Can she please just find a new line of business. She is horrible at this. She couldn’t wait to ruin Just discard Will and turn Sonny into a man who’d lead two men in while telling his husband he was paranoid only to tell Paul that his husband was actually correct. Then he not only left his daughter twice, but stood on his husbands grave, asked his ex to wait for him, and left his daughter a third time when she needed him more than ever.

She made Justin an idiot. I could go on forever.

Karma to her.

Agreed. These writers and Ken Corday are ruining this show with each passing day. Death, murder, teen rape, and so on. Whatever happened to romance and love stories? How long must we put up with this trash writing?

Sonny abandoning Arianna and having a loving scene with Sonny on Will’s grave was all part of the show’s homophobic messaging. Sonny is not a “real” father – despite the throw away line from Gabi that says he was – everything about Will’s death including the picture blowing away was Higley and Griffith saying “no more perverts will be raising babies on this show anymore.” The scene on Will’s grave was just saying gay marriages aren’t real and gays are flighty and will replace one partner with another because just like Will, they are all sluts. The fact that they only fired one of the writers responsible for all that says a whole lot about NBC’s commitment to equality.

The reboot has been a disaster – killing off one fan favorite after another, going full on homophobe in the end of Will and Wilson, destroying Aiden in favor of Rafe. The only successful pairings in the last year have been Chabby and Stayla, both created by others and Abigail is gone. Chase grows up to rape Ciara? What kind of hateful, sick person thought of that? Moreover, none of the new characters and pairings have worked. I’m sure JG was responsible for the death, death, death rape and he certainly wasn’t shy about “borrowing” from the previous soaps he’s worked on to the point of lifting not only plot points but dialogue and scenes, but Dena Higley is the one who decided to destroy the Bradys and Hortons (most especially Eric and Will) so that the show could center around the Henandezes. Unless that ends, Days will end.

I so agree with you.

When you think about it, the only successful things about this god-awful reboot have been pairings that were created by other writers. Everything Dena and Josh brought to the table flopped. I’ll never forgive the show for its homophobic pandering in Will’s death, and a “sorry we were so obvious with the homophobia that you noticed” resurrection isn’t going to cut it, either. However, I just see the reboot as total scorched earth – they didn’t want anything but their favorites standings, and now nothing is standing. I theorize Higley is in a little room somewhere with legal pads until they can contractually remove her without being sued, but this new untested writer better consider making the whole reboot a dream. Yes, that’s extreme. In this case, appropriate.

Josh Griffith never seems to stay with a show for very long so I’m not surprised that he left. DOOL should replace Dena Higley with Ron Carlivati.

No to Ron. Soaps need to stop shuffling around head writers and hire new, younger writers. Ryan is only 38 and has never been a head writer. Hopefully he’ll have fresh ideas and have respect for fans.

Yeah Ron C would clean up Days and bring in so much electric, fun, entertainment, humor, love, and adventures. Ron Carlivanti is the man for the job. Ken Corday needs to hire Ron C immediately!!!!!! He bring on great new families, move away from warfaire, and bring back old faves to stay!

HUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?????

Erika Slezak nailed Dena Higley back in 2007 when she said

“Dena doesn’t care about the rich history of the show, which is evident in what she writes”

“I hate to say this but Dena will push the show in any direction. She needs to realize that she is not writing for a movie – a one time thing – but for a character that has to live with the actions for a long time”

“She wants to write for her own characters and she wants to write stories that she thinks are interesting but nobody else does. She doesn’t write stories, she writes events. It’s like one event – let’s have a bomb, let’s have a plane crash – but there is no story”

That’s the last five months of Days in a nutshell. Legacy characters destroyed. Dena’s favorites pushed in instead. Events not stories : no consequences from Will’s death (forgotten immediately), Aiden and Ben suddenly psychopaths, Eric suddenly a drunk, Chase is suddenly a rapist. It’s all utter nonsense and garbage – of no interest to people who are want some sanity and reality reflected in their daytime drama. People are moved by stories which echo reality in some way. Dena’s Days is a demented dream. It’s utter insanity to keep her. Epic Days fail. Epic NBC fail.

Could not have said it better myself.

Thank you, Stephen.

Thank you Iakovos. I am just saying what I see! I find it interesting, (and heartening) that what I see, others do too.

Stephen… Thank you and we’ll stated. ‘Legacy characters destroyed’,

Here’s hoping some one is reading all of this because I think there are some great points made in most of these comments. Good job Days fans.

On another note in my opinion, it would be nice if the writers would pull a Days old stunt and just make everything a DREAM and back date everything back before killing off E.J. Dimera. Just a good old fashion RE-DO.

Getting rid of Josh and his unoriginal “kill, kill, kill” BS is a start, but unless Higley is booted along with her obsession with making it the Rafe show, nothing can save it. Days needs to apologize for the homophobic killing of Will and the destruction of his family (Guy or Chandler can come back to undo it, either would be most welcome), redeem Eric, bring back Aiden and redeem Chase…there’s so much fixing to be done give the cruel and hateful nature of the reboot.

They had a young, handsome teen with a compelling backstory and no genetic relation to any young woman on the canvas, and they make him a rapist? What kind of hateful brain trust thought that was a good idea? Did they not learn anything from the EJ debacle, which cast a shadow over the Ejami ship? The past months have been nothing but cheap, lazy and hateful stunts with no love, no romance and no respect for the show’s history. Getting rid of Josh is a good start, but I have no faith the show will survive if Dena remains.

Preach, sister, preach. Could not agree with you more.

really well said; about the actor; Chase !

“…They had a young, handsome teen with a compelling backstory and no genetic relation to any young woman on the canvas, “

I think the show is amazing now! People just relax! First of all – Tony fed Chase before the attack – obviously he was drugged and brainwashed! On top of it – I am sure Chase is Ava & Patch’s son!!! There is tons of good stuff going on! Give it a chance!

Oh great – the teen rapist is innocent because he was drugged – what a social responsible story that would be.

He’s Andre, not Tony, but that could change, Dishy.

Oh, no! No! I thought Days should have been pulled from the air when they were so blatantly pandering to anti-gay bigots with Will’s death, but if they did a rape story where the rapist is innocent because the rapist had been brainwashed , that would be totally socially irresponsible. There’s enough misogynist messaging in the world that says rapists aren’t really responsible for their actions without a “it’s not the rapist’s fault” storyline on Days. I don’t need total social responsibility in my soaps, but I would rather them not be blatantly homophobic and misogynist.

Relax? Do you think in 2016 anyone would relax about a “the rapist isn’t responsible for the rape” story? Days started this disgusting reboot with over-the-top homophobia, I guess it is to be expected that they would top themselves with extreme sexism. Why not just say Ciara was wearing a short skirt and had been drinking, so she clearly wanted it? I don’t know how a show that would assert that a rapist wasn’t responsible for his actions could stay on the air. There’s quite enough messaging in this world that rapists are responsible for their actions, but doing so on a tv network would seem to violate some sort of standards and practices – even if there was a sci-fi fantasy excuse.

Teen Werewolf, maybe, Dishy? Or perhaps, Andre was working in Dr. Jekyll’s lab?….do you think Andre concocted something? If Marlena turned into a demon….well….
…….speaking of which…. Had Days lost all that is just? I do not like what is going on…Hope is ruining Rafe. For what? Oh, Bo asked him to? I doubt this is what Bo had in mind.
These two are supposed to uphold the law. I find it quite revolting that Andre should be blamed for Stefano’s death. I care not what a baddie he is….he did not do it. I care not that Stefano was a dragon; Hope did it, and she should be accountable…and Rafe right along with her.
I loved Rafe…no more. TPTB have also ruined this character. Awful, terrible, unforgivable writing!!!

The teen rapist wasn’t responsible for the rape? They better not go there. Soap or not, fantasy or not, there are messages you shouldn’t send, but hey, this is show that kicked off its anniversary celebration with the gruesome strangulation of their gay legacy character, the onscreen desecration of his corpse and then all but told the audience it was okay to be happy about it. It’s a morally repugnant show, so frankly if it does play out that Chase “didn’t mean it so it is okay” – it would not surprise me at all.

Meant to write there is enough messaging in the world that rapists are NOT responsible for their actions, a tv show doesn’t need to play into that. It’s just really an uncomfortable and terrible idea – but this is a show that is rife with homophobic, sexist & gruesome ideas so it shouldn’t shock anyone.

Word! I cosign it all. Bring back Will and Eric…heck, make the whole awful, mean-spirited reboot a dream. The show is about the Bradys and the Hortons, not about their systematic destruction.

That’s right…the show is supposed to be about the Brady’s and the Hortons. The writing doesn’t seem to center around that much anymore. I wish they would get back to the roots of it all.

I feel like Will’s death was due because Ali Sweeney, who plays Sami opted to return to the show full time. I feel like they did it to smash her.

Glad Josh’s dark, disgusting stories are nearing an end. Dena and her Hernandez show are horrible, but he is worse. I don’t think Corday cares they are horrible writers, but Josh was stealing stories he’d written for other soaps. Probably was fired for that. I wonder what happened to Beth Milstein. All writers, producers and directors involved with Will’s death and the anti-gay messaging that came with it need to be fired. I stopped watching in October and I’m not looking forward to seeing what these hacks do with Sonny and Paul (and possibly Will) in a few months.

With Higley still there, I guess I won’t get my hoped for Rafe and his whole family killed by an errant drone strike story.

Bring back the Hortons (starting with Will) and the Bradys (starting with Eric) and get rid of Higley.

“…errant drone strike”

WE DEMAND A TAKE OUT HIGLEY

I meant to add… LOL

“Funny”

Days is the best soap and the only one I will watch so I am sure its in good hands! Love you days!!!

Rumor I heard today, is that Kim Zimmer ex Reva is heading to Days. I hope this is true.

Sucks that Josh Griffith left and Dena Higley is still there.

My money would be on conflict with Dena; their styles are just too completely different to mesh well, and I was skeptical from the start when this partnership was announced. (Though why, if I’m right about that, they would opt to hang on to Dena and not Josh would be beyond me.)

My best guess is Dena wrote six months and then took a six month leave and now will write six more months and be released. Her contract was 12 months, but she and Josh were in a power struggle. She left. Beth Milstein replaced her. Dena returned, so Beth had to go and Josh chose to leave after fulfilling his 12 month contract which he may have wanted to extend if Dena hadn’t returned.

Hopefully they will lock Dena in a room with a shrine to Galen Gergig and some unsharpened pencils until her contract runs out.

None of the characters even act like the characters the fans have know for so long. He’s ruined the show. He only writes hateful and tragic stories that have no other purpose than shock value. The spin off stories after his ugly events just have no substance. It’s all a waste. I can’t even watch anymore. It’s just horrible. And by the way, he really has just repeated storylines from his other jobs in soaps and others. He can’t even come up with original stuff. He just chose to copy every crappy story ever told because he wasn’t even smart enough to to copy from a good story line. (Notice I said copy instead of the word I really mean when you take what is not even yours. )

There’s no mention of how this change relates to the poorly written sensationalistic violence. The rape seems to have become a tipping point. in just a few weeks, Ciara was rsped, kidnapped, lost her father, had a house fire, her mother was almost killed on her wedding night by her new stepfather, who was killed in her home. Hope the change brings romance and real drama.

Not crazy about the storylines right now, so have not been watching much. They have descended into dark, gloom, doom, ugly, mean. This happened to Days a few years back. They have some good storylines, start to move forward, do better, and then they descend into darkness. Some people may like it, and I realize that is a part of life and drama, but still like day time drama to be a bit lighter, more romantic escapism. I did like the Valentine’s Day episode with the little ‘love’ minuets.

I used to be fan of Josh’s work, but with his story line of killing Delhia on Y&R, and all the death and darkness that has invade Salem since he took over– my hope is Josh will be pursuing some spiritual pursuits that will lighten his soul, if not he should move over to prime time writing where some his dark and heavy material will be more suited and appreciated.

I tend to agree with you, Mary. Everyone is blaming Dena, but Josh has been solely been holding the headwriter reins during her months long absence. I haven’t even heard it officially announced that she is back in the building. The problem with some daytime soap writers is that they are trying to write Primetime Cable on Daytime Network t.v., and it doesn’t work! The kind of grim, bleak, dark, heavy programming that is so popular on primetime now does not translate to daytime soaps. Ron Carlivati was a chief offender in this as well. Unless your name is Su, and you are a fairly deranged man posing and posting as a woman, we do not watch soaps for misery, and gloom, and doom, and murder, and gore, etc. On Primetime shows, you watch them once a week, for half an hour or an hour whatever, and that’s it. You don’t necessarily get emotionally involved or attached. Many of these are limited run shows, so you know they will have 10-15 episodes, for 4 seasons or whatever. You can marathon watch these shows and have the entire series completed in one night. And then it’s over. Soaps are unique in that many of us spend more time with soap characters than we do with our own families. We care, and we invest. We get emotional. We want to see light hearted moments between friends, and family. We want to see couples in love, and happy. We want humour, and banter, and beloved characters. Of course, they are called daytime dramas. But I don’t recall where drama means never ending misery, and violence, and unhappiness, and death. Drama is defined as “an exciting, emotional, or unexpected series of events or set of circumstances.” It doesn’t say bleak, or dark, or tragic, or deadly, or violent!! DAYS has to SERIOUSLY let up for a bit on all the heaviness. Exciting, emotional, unexpected…. DAYS has been and can be all of those things without all the darkness. And as others have mentioned…myself included…. why are we trashing, killing, and murdering Brady’s and Horton’s, and trying to shoehorn the Hernandez clan in as some new core family? The reaction to Rafe has ALWAYS been lukewarm at best. The majority of the audience absolutely DESPISED Gabi most of the time, until she had the baby and became a more likable character. And A…poor A. A Martinez. As a mega fan of Santa Barbara, A was daytime royalty. He was in his 30’s, phenomenal acting, making on screen magic with Marcy Walker. He won all kinds of awards, acclaim, and accolades. Now, sorry to say, the years have not been so kind. I am not making fun of him because he is a senior citizen now. Everyone gets older. But what is up with his hair? Why is it so weird and poofy? I am thinking a very close shaved crewcut might be more flattering. He should lose the facial hair. He just looks…greasy onscreen. And the character of Eduardo is just strange and weird. Like, we needed another deadbeat husband/dad story? DAYS has been telling that story non stop for decades…with characters like Jack, Bo, Steve, John, Shane, etc, etc. Circumstances were all different, but for whatever reason…saving the world or whatever…all these men have been away from their spouses and/or children for extended periods. The difference is…we CARE about those characters. I don’t give two hoots why Eduardo left Eve and Paige. Paige is dead and Eve is off the show. Pointless, blatant writing…trying to shove him into too many storylines all at once. It is indeed bizarre seeing A in basically the same role as Henry Darrow was on Santa Barbara, playing Cruz’s absentee father. I don’t see A having leading man potential anymore, and I don’t see chemistry with him and Kate Roberts. Now I hear they are casting Mama Hernandez. And Dario, who is being aged by about 15 years to accommodate the casting of a former soap actor. Tossing a bunch of Emmy winners and fan favourites from previous shows is doing the show no favours. Tamara Braun has overstayed her welcome as two different characters. Vincent Irizarry playing Victor’s brother makes no sense. They keep talking about this event from THIRTY years ago. Phillip, Victor’s son…is in his 30’s. So 30 years ago, in soap time, Victor was caught between Kate and Vivian. He was not in Greece, battling his brother, who would have been about 20 at the time, while Victor would have been in his 50’s. I love John Paul Lavoisier, but they need to lighten the character up SERIOUSLY!! Let’s get casting some long gone Horton’s!

Dylan, in reference to your first sentence, Dena has been gone for what appears to be six months, but the show tapes up to six months ahead, so what we have been watching is Josh and Dena. We’re about to start seeing the six months of Josh and Beth. We won’t start seeing Dena and Ryan until six months from now.

All I know is, I have not watched Days in weeks and weeks and I’m not even tempted to do so, no matter how many deaths, sexual assaults, kidnappings, blackmails, transplanted hearts, psychic visions, rushed romances, cold-blooded killings, and brainwashed lovers they focus on. If this was mostly the work of Josh Griffith, goodbye and good luck. But I have a bad feeling this was mostly the brainchild of Dena Higley, and if so, I don’t see myself returning to DOOL anytime soon.

I wish I could have celebrated the renewal of DOOL as the actors and crew did, but until I feel like DOOL is a show I can return to 5 days a week, like I did in August through November, I just can’t see myself watching DOOL in the near term. And the sad part is, I would really like to.

Days has been excellent lately, in terms of dialogue and character interaction. Where it has failed is in overall plotting. There has been far too much death. I can understand the reasons for killing Bo, Daniel, and even Stefano, although I disagree with a couple of them. The real tragedy is the killing of Will Horton. It will go down in history, along with the death if Alan Quartermaine on GH, as one of the worst mistakes in the history of soap writing. (I feel qualified to say that since I have been watching both shows for over 40 years). If Josh Griffin had anything to do with that decision, then he deserved to be fired. Fans of the show have every right to be furious at this decision.

I’ve watched soaps for 35 years and loved them until now. I agree the killing of Will was one of the all time top 2 mistakes ever made by soap writers/producers. I have been a lifetime fan of Guuding Light, As the world Turns, All My Children, and part-time young and the restless. I began Days when the others were cancelled. So I feel I’m a good judge of a huge soap mistake.

Killing Will. Stupidest choice ever. They had a goldmine with That Character.

Last year, when fans were hating on Will – they were hating on the character. Will was written as a self-destructive mess – but still a loving father and deep down good human being. He was a perfect candidate for redemption, and even the hateful fans who hated on him were reacting to the character. Now, fans simply watch and say “I hate the writers” – big difference.

Will was a goldmine. The show threw him and his legacy in the trash to pander to bigots. It will always be a black mark on the show.

Will was killed. Yet Roman Brady still lives. I know there was an internal debate as to which Brady to kill and it was thought Will would bring in a larger audience. So how does that decision seem now. Wouldn’t Eric’s descent into alcoholism and Hope craziness make far more sense had the individual been Roman.

I think they chose to kill Will because they had systematically destroyed the character. By the end he bore no resemblance to the character that Chandler Massey had played so brilliantly. Guy Wilson did what he could with the dreck he was given, but he could not pull it off. He is no Chandler Massey. From a plotting standpoint, they should have sent Will off to Europe to reconcile with So/nnny offscreen. That way they failed story would be over, but Will would live, and be available for a redemption story in the future. Knowing what we all know now, I wonder if Josh Griffin and his co-writers would do things differently if they could do it all over.

Killing Roman would not have provided the dramatic effect they were seeking. We may think of Roman as a legacy character, but they just think of him as a sounding board, and as a prop in stories for other characters.

Chandler’s Will was just as hated by trolls as Massey – I remember when everyone was cheering Brian and throwing every slur in the book at Will, especially from within the gay community. There were constant slams of Then, the recast came and everyone acted like Massey – who I loved but there’s no doubt he was phoning it in the end – was Lawrence Oliver. It wasn’t fair to either actor. but the nastiness toward the character and both actors gave the show an excuse to write a homophobic storyline and everyone should take note of that.

Josh Griifith leaving happened right after Days was renewed. So they waited until they got the go ahead for another year and got rid of the person most responsible for saving the show.. Too bad NBC didn’t put in a clause that the renewal was conditional that retread Dena could not come back. Best of luck Days – you are going to need it.

Saving the show? This was the worst negotiations they’ve ever had. They got closer to losing the show than ever before. Most likely they were told the renewal was on condition of getting rid of Josh. (Probably why they had him stop writing during negotiations. Let’s face it, he was on the clock and if it got canceled then his stuff wouldn’t get filmed. But they had him STOP!) LOL

Adios!

Unbelievable!!! A name of a head writer that I have never heard of.

LOL

rolling…

thank you for that

Ryan Quan… will surprise MANY

Cost cutting begins. Josh Griffith was a “name” and surely had an expensive contract. Ryan Quan, first time as a head writer, will come cheaper. Good luck to him. Hope his first move is suggesting a week in which someone isn’t raped/assaulted/murdered/going crazy/being grieved.

For the first five months of the Days reboot, I more or less enjoyed the show with one HUGE grudge against it because of the way Will was written off. During that time, I liked the suspense, the characters returning, I liked Steve and Kayla for the first time ever (I know, I’m a lone person here on not being fans before) – but I had reservations about the teens, the weird timelines where three weeks would go by in real life but only two days in Salem yet the characters were behaving as if three weeks happened in those two days), Brady and Theresa – but overall, things were good.

Then Daniel died and about mid January, things started going down REAL quick. We are in mid-February and I can’t find one story I enjoy anymore. They are too over the top, too ridiculous, too out of the blue, characters aren’t in character – something drastic has happened.

And all I can recall is that Dena took a leave of absence that was reported a few months back – which in terms of story, could have realistically happened about this time in the stories that we are seeing on our screen. Did she leave for a bit as a result of this mess we are seeing on a screens – or was this all the work of Josh once she left? Because stories seem to have taken some unexpected and not well thought out turns (Hope killing Stefano, Chase raping Ciara, Kate/Theresa/Nicole quickly becoming Theresa/Nicole, Belle growing more and more unpleasant by the episode, Ava’s big return devolving into a nonsensical mess). Is it at all possible that in this duo of writers we got back in September, Dena was the better one? That’s scary.

Mike, what we’re seeing now is what led to Dena’s LOA. Any day now will be Josh and Beth’s work. Six months from now will be the return of Dena.

Dena was gone in August. Her stuff is over. Josh was a part of anything the entire time anyway. Think he set back and dos whatever Dena wanted and just twiddled his thumbs? They worked together. He’s responsible too. Plus. Josh and Beth without Dena has already started. The rape. At minimum, all of Feb. and some of January is all Josh.

Ultimately the only thing that can really save Days is if Ken Corday steps out and let’s other people take charge. He’s made one mistake after another and he’s too pompous to admit it.

What I’ve also heard, Mike, is when Josh and Dena first started co-headwriting, Josh had control for the first 3 months and Dena had control the next three months. TPTB saw what we’re now seeing and pushed Dena to take a leave of absence. Beth Milstein, who’s name should be in the credits soon, took Dena’s place.

Apparently, they had to bring Dena back to finish her contract, so it won’t be surprising to here of her exit by the time her newest material reaches the air.

In the meantime, I’m hoping to see a great mix of storytelling with the team of Josh and Beth.

*hear of her exit

great
now our shows being written by a twice fired headwriter and a nobody… yikes
same old corday crap… lots of grand promises , none delivered
bo dying of a brain tumor, will choked to death and eric drinking and driving….
griffin shld ve quit before he started.

Haven’t watched since the horrific and totally homophobic pander that was Will’s death but started following the show’s social media when rumors of a Will resurrection surfaced. Without an apology for all the god-awful & despicable homophobia that was part of Will’s death, I’ll never trust the show. Sonny in the second row, Will’s relative’s dancing around with a male stripper the day after his funeral are just two of the very many homophobic story beats they barely tried to hide.

Josh Griffith was part of the homophobia, but so was this Dena Higley person, so if she’s still there the show can’t be trusted.

Not watching, but Chase grows up to rape Ciara? Those two had a lovely step sibling rapport as kids, and that’s what these sick and twisted “writers” do? Frankly, I’m surprised the show was renewed given how grotesque and hateful it is.

Under Griffith the show was “Days of Death” here is hoping someone fresh can change things for the better. We can assume that NBC had a hand in the writer change as part of the renewal.

I think Dena needs to go too. I was hoping this would mean that the stories would change and we’d get some good writing, but with Dena still around, I doubt it. And filming 6 months in advance has to go. It doesn’t allow them to quickly change things that aren’t working which means viewers suffer.

There is more wrong than right with Days right now. That’s sad. It and we deserve better. It can improve. We just need good writers!!!!!!!!!

Could Josh be coming to GH to perform CPR on its stories?

I haven’t watched since Will died but Chase raping Ciara reflects the show’s total moral bankruptcy – it wasn’t long ago that they were precocious kids together. Getting rid of half the diseased, exploitative heart won’t do anything. The show’s contempt for its viewers could not be more obvious.

Yet another inexcusable plot development. Disgusting.

This may be good news. DOOL has been extremely dark, depressing, and violent. Let’s hope that this will be an improvement (more soapy, less CSI).

And according to the numbers many like it that way, the numbers are up up and the failing Days has been renewed….
So it apparently it is doing very well in comparison to the past when days was on death row before the change-up …

That’s not exactly true. Numbers have been falling. Drastically. Any rise was due to false hope of returning vets and good stories from pr which turned out to just disappoint the mass. It actually took Longer than ever to make a deal to renew.

Not fooled at all by the false hype and praise

I find it hard to believe anyone like Days anymore. It makes me wonder if show reps add comments when I read a positive one. I know no one at all who still likes it. My mother in law watched her entire life and thinks it’s horrible since new writers. At a meeting a month ago some older colleagues said they watched their entire lives and now just hated it. The were especially hating the Bo story and felt let down.

What’s to even like on it anymore? Where is the payoff? Oh, payoff is destruction of all, I guess.

Fay you are absolutely right!! I have watched this show since day one and it is now in the toilet!!!!! I cannot imagine the twisted minds that are responsible for this fiasco. They have destroyed what Chris and Gary have so beautifully done. I never like that Dena H. woman anyway. She is unimaginative. Selecting her was a bad, bad, move!!!!

Just to provide clarification, I watch the show, I am a relatively new Viewer, meaning that I have watched for about 2 1/2 years or so. Just because I watch the show, doesn’t mean I and others can’t be critical.
This storyline between Ciarra and what’s his name – Chase – is idiotic. Their acting talents leave something to be desired. I know they are young and I get that but honestly I am not feeling it. The young actress playing Paige was so intense and when she grabbed her mom (Eve) and said “I know it was you” that was pretty powerful. I can’t imagine this young gal playing Ciarra moving me like that.
I also miss Sonny and Will and I miss Paul having something to do….besides being a vacuous male model – honestly. At least when he was a closeted baseball player it was at least different.
Hopefully, the writing will improve, right now to me it’s dullsville.

I’m also a new viewer, and I miss interesting Paul, trainwreck Will and…passive aggressive Sonny…? That was some good soap. I’m glad you are defending True O’Brien as well. She wasn’t great, but she got steadily better and she’s far better than this poor young woman that got playing Ciara. There’s nothing for me to watch anymore.

I will agree the actress playing Ciara is not good at all. But all both said are relatively new viewers and do not know the history of 80% of these characters. I have been watching since 1992, I see a lot good things about this show and see some stuff that needs to go. No SOAP OPERA today is what use be back 10 to 15 years ago , must less 20 years ago. I seeall the people on her complaining never satisfied with nothing . they wantedTomlin & Whitesell gone and now they want Dena gone. I personally would have made Beth Milstein and Lorraine Broderick head writers with Dena as Associate head writer.

Days of our Lives Star, Greg Vaughan, Gives Health Update and Thanks Everyone for Their Support

Greg Vaughan (Eric, Days of our Lives, ex-Lucky, GH, and ex-Diego, Y&R) provided an update on his health on Sunday, March 17th. Vaughan had previously shared that he had become ill during a trip with his sons to Colorado, and had developed altitude sickness when he was having trouble breathing accompanied by terrible headaches and landed in the urgent care.

Now on St. Patrick’s Day, Greg took to his Instagram and shared how he is feeling now, and to thank everyone for their love and support.  As it turned out, Vaughan was diagnosed with high altitude pulmonary edema, commonly known as HAPE. However, he is on the mend slowly and surely.

In his new video post, the DAYS favorite started by expressing, “I just felt such an appreciation and gratitude for everything. . reaching out. Your prayers have been felt. It’s been a struggle, but I’m over the top. And, taking this moment just to say I didn’t realize the things that I was going through. My (original) post was simply just to educate, put some information out there and some things that I was feeling, just share that information and the struggle that I was going through, which I didn’t quite understand. And it wasn’t because I’m stubborn or just because I’m a father, a man, and didn’t want to go to a doctor. It is just something I thought was so minor that I could overcome it, just by taking care of myself.”

The Daytime Emmy winner then revealed his actual diagnosis, “So, basically my situation was high altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE). With some good friends, doctors that had reached out to me, it kind of gave me some understanding on the aftermath, which was very, very beneficial.”

“But I’ve been resting, taking care of myself even though I live in a hamster wheel,” said the dad of three teenaged boys. “I gotta get up and, you know, do my normal domesticated stuff, eventually. I’m tired of laying down in this bed, but, I am feeling much better.”

Talking on his confusion of trying to understand what could have been ailing him, Vaughan expressed, “I couldn’t quite figure it out, even though I was emphasizing and professing to my children going on our spring break getaway about hydration. I professed it. But, even though I was acting on it, it had a greater effect on me, and for which I did not even think, because my head was such in pain, and I was in a very bad state of mind – not being able to be out there with my kids on the mountain, enjoying their time, as well. I thought I was doing the right thing. Unfortunately, my lungs were full of fluids and my head was in severe pain and even migraine pills didn’t even help. So, I just want anybody that goes into the Colorado Mountains to know, it is no joke. It is this very serious thing which I guess is why they call it the Mile High City.”

Greg had a mountain of ‘thank you’s’ to give for the outreach he received from his original post, “For everybody internationally, wherever you are, I love you and I appreciate you and just the time and the thoughts that you’ve shared with me,” said Vaughan. “I didn’t realize that it would make such an impression on so many people around the world. I feel tremendously loved and I can’t say it enough. I’m good. And I appreciate you.”

The actor concluded his video with, “To all the family and friends that have reached out to me, man, it means the world. So take care of yourself, enjoy your spring break with your families. It’s Saint Patty’s Day, obviously. I wish I could be out there.” Vaughan added, “I feel loved and touched and I can’t emphasize that enough. I’ll take better care of myself, promise you will do the same.” Before he signed off, Greg shared, “Just know, that I’m alive and well and breathing, and I’m sore. So, be well, take care. I mean it. Thank you, tremendously.”

Days of our Lives Star Greg Vaughan Shares Sudden Health Scare: “I Truly Feel Like I Work & Live in a Soap Opera!”

What started out as an adventure with his sons, quickly turned into a nightmare for Days of our Lives Daytime Emmy winner, Greg Vaughan (Eric Brady).

In a series of Instagram posts, Vaughan shared the sudden health crisis he found himself in.  The images show Greg with an oxygen tank to help him breathe.

The actor began to fill people, sharing, “I’ve said more than a few times, I truly feel like I work & live in a Soap Opera! 🤪 this trip was nothing short of another great Vaughan adventure!”

He went on to say that on a father and son Colorado spring break trip, he began to feel shortness of breath, feeling tired and with a headache and after two days of hoping he would feel better, Vaughan finally went to an Urgent Care to get checked out.

Photo: GVaughanIG

“I finally surrendered & went to urgent care and to my shock I learned that I was experiencing severe altitude sickness.” Vaughan admitted. “My Blood Oxygen was at 54% & my lungs were full of fluids! Blood oxygen, also known as oxygen saturation, represents the percentage of hemoglobin in your red blood cells that is carrying oxygen. Most people have an oxygen level of 95-100%….”

Providing more detail to his health scare, Greg shared, “Well, 4hrs later, a couple of bags of IV & oxygen tank strapped to my face, I was told that I needed to immediately get off the mountain! However I couldn’t, we still had another day to go & wanting the boys to enjoy their last day on the hill tops! I opted to go home with an oxygen tank, a good laugh for everyone, and I know will follow, but my boys looked after their old man & fortunately they had friends on this trip!”

The experience of altitude sickness in the Colorado Rockies gave Vaughan a bit of a new perspective, “In all seriousness, no matter your age, and all the times I’ve ⛷️ & 🏂 in my lifetime, Colorado Rockies is no joke! As they say, ‘ take a breathe and smell the roses!’ That is truly something we need to remember & appreciate! #recover”

Share your well-wishes to Greg as he continues to be on the mend via the comment section below.
