CASTLE Canceled By ABC!

Courtesy/ABC

In another shocker this afternoon by ABC, the popular Castle has been canceled after eight seasons.

The veteran procedural drama starring former One Life to Live star, Nathan Fillion (Ex-Joey Buchanan) made some major moves in front of the camera to try to help pick-up for a ninth season including; having to let go of series lead Stana Katic, and original cast member Tamala Jones, who were not asked to come back, and their exits characterized as cost-cutting measures designed to allow for one more season where Castle goes it alone.

ABC Studios has already locked in Fillion, along with Seamus Dever and Jon Huertas for the new season.  According to Deadline, “Castle already had a road map for Season 9, drawn by Alexi Hawley and Terence Paul Winter, who joined as showrunners at the beginning of Season 8 and were expected to come back for Season 9.  There was a red flag last Friday when ABC did not make a pickup by the deadline it had to make a decision on the show.”

That means that Monday’s May 16th season finale, will actually be the show’s series finale.   And in case the worst happened, according to EW, there was another ending to the finale:  “If we hear that we’re not coming back, we have shot something that we can put at the end of the episode as a way to put a button on everything,” Co-EP Alexi Hawley said. “Obviously that would be a bad thing, because it would mean no more. We did it in order to try to protect the fans, because you can’t end the series on a cliffhanger.”

What do you think of the news of the Castle cancellation? Will you miss the show? Comment below!

That was a show that lasted about seven seasons too long

Lol Muire like three episodes in too long.. I stopped watching the first season same Nashville now bring on Green Leaf on the OWN network.. HELLO.. 6/21&22

More not muire like the ghost and Mrs..
I miss nanny and the professor lol

Nashville n now Castle, you have to be kiddin me. You are taking all the good shows off. more disappointment. Thank you ABC

I agree!

Castle had a great run!
Most have never lasted as long as Castle..
I hope to see Nathan Fillion in another series, soon..

(( reruns upcoming for another 10yrs, and beyond– no doubt.

The Castle falls with cost-cutting moves. Good show though.

What a darn shame, we loved that show!

IMO, the quality of Castle has gone down in recent years. I often felt that the show was using variations of the same episode over and over again. But when Castle was good, it was great fun to watch. Plus I always appreciated how Nathan Fillion was loyal to other soap opera actors and gave them guest starring roles on the show. NF has been a terrific supporter of Daytime, and I’ll always be grateful to him for that. As for the news of the cancellation, I wasn’t looking forward to the show changing its formula and going Beckett-less for one more year, and I sure wasn’t looking forward to a grim season finale next week, so in a strange way, I’m grateful that ABC has cancelled Castle and isn’t going to ruin the Caskett legacy (I hope). Since the show had passed its peak awhile ago, it’s going out in a good place, though not exactly on top.

Beth…You’ve mostly summed up,how I feel about Castle. I’ve been a Nathan Fillion fan starting with Joey, Preacher (Buffy) through the Firefly/Serenity Series…all of whose influence was carried over in Castle. But you had to have Beckett or it wasn’t going to work. It had a good run but it was starting to get stale. This seems to happen when boy meets girl tension ends and they marry. But how ABC does business leaves a great deal to be desired as soap fans well know. Ruthless? Good luck to all of the cast members who never let us down.

Followup comment to how ABC does business….there has been a lot said and written about Live With Kelly and Michael. While it looks like Kelly “won,” and the network/execs apologized and gave her the stage on her day back to have her say, if I were her I would never trust ABC again no matter what they have assured her. She should start looking at other opportunites just in case.

Wasn’t a regular viewer but tried to catch it when I could. Have always loved Nathan. Sorry. It to see it have one more season.

I’m more upset with Nashville bring canceled!! I had kinda figured Castle was going to be canceled because you can’t really have Castle without Kate! Now all I watch on ABC is General Hospital, but even that’s been boring!!

This is horrible news! I love this show. What a way to end my already crappy day.

I completely agree Michelle!

Castle was a good show. A mystery with humor and great characters. ABC strikes again.

The big mistake that ABC made was allowing the original show runner to be replaced with the current showrunners. They had no concept of the dynamic of Castle/Beckett, and the decline started then. The show had a great run, and I’ll miss it…but the idea of Castle without Beckett is horrible, and I’m glad the series ended.
I loved the show, and will have to find something else to do on Monday nights.

I didn’t know it was on for eight seasons, at least it had a good run. Nathan Fillion just keeps going and getting projects, he deserves it.

I’ve had it with ABC. Castle is the best thing on ABC other than GH. I’m going to stop watching aBC all together except for GH

OMG. This sucks! I absolutely LOVE this show, the characters and the actors. This show should last ANOTHER 7 seasons!! It never gets old, I’m really disappointed. And Nashville too, WHAT!!!??

i feel like someone just ripped out my heart. He is the best thing, best show on TV. The ONLY thing on ABC I watched. NCIS is the only other good show on TV and Michael weatherly is leaving it. Who cares if Stana leaves. Will miss Lani. He would do a very good show by himself with the rest of cast. Castle is the only thing that brings joy to my life. Hope you all know how that feels some day. Now all we need is for trump to win and have pence for his vp and the whole world will be ruined. This just makes me sick. I have dreaded the end of every season worried they’d do something stupid like taking castle of. I was actually celebrating this year when I heard there’d be a 9th season. Then they stabbed us in the back. No joy ever again. Gee thanks. Losers!

Omg I love it don’t want it go 🙁 watched it from day one

This is a shame. Such a quality group of people in front and behind the cameras. I am honored to have been a part of the show, last week on the Hell to Pay episode. Nathan is a helluva guy. MB

Sorry to see it go I enjoyed it very much it had drama comedy love and good friends like family

TIME FOR EVERYONE TO CANCEL ABC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YAY!

Will miss it I even watch it on reruns the series had drama comedy love and a family atmosphere

One of my alltime favorite shows !! ❤️❤️❤️Please don’t cancel the show ABC !!

I WOULD HAVE CONTINUED WATCHING CASTLE…FOR “CASTLE” (NATHAN FILLION) I LOVED ALL THE CHARACTERS ON THE SHOW…HIS MOM , SUSAN SULLIVAN,AND DAUGHTER!! THE WHOLE SQUAD…THE SHOW WASN’T JUST BECKETT TO SOME OF US!! VERY SAD, BAD CHOICE!! REALLY GOING TO MISS IT!!!

I agree! They always take the good shows off the air. Castle was witty and fun. Now Nashville too. So long ABC! You lost another one.

What is it with abc they keep cancelling good shows and replace with reality

ABC, you had one good show to watch after you dumped “All My Children” and that was “Castle.” After the May 16 finale, I’m done with you completely.

I love this show, Nathan Fillion and the whole cast! I will miss it! Hope Nathan finds another project soon so we can see him on TV again!

The best show on tv. What are you thinking ABC?

ABC should have NEVER cancelled OLTL. They don’t, and never will, care about the viewers. Castle could have continued. There is not a show on tv that has a writer as a main character. So many possibilities. I only watch GH, DWTS and Castle. Soon it will be one less.

You keep cancelling the good shows, I have watched Castle and Nashville since the beginning. I will miss them both hope something good replaces them.

Will really miss this show. Looked forward to seeing it every weel.

Hire Nathan Fillion to be new PCPD police commissioner AND he is a “Secret Scorpio!”

So sad that you dump all the good shows, and keep all the trash. I was in the film business for over 20 years in NYC and loved all the shoes. Now I can’t even look at the trash you are putting up instead of real shows like Castle.

Get your acts together and keep some of these shows if you really want someone to watch what you put in front of us.

ABC is becoming just another trashy channel.

Agreed! They would rather have shows like the Bachelor continue on. I guess they don’t have to pay any actors. No wonder HBO,Showtime,Amazon and other venues are doing so well. ABC DOESN’T CARE ABOUT THE VIEWERS!!! We ENJOY shows like Nashville and Castle. Disgusted!

We really enjoyed watching this show together and will miss it. I loved seeing Susan Sullivan, especially.

I couldn’t imagine the show without SK, so this wasn’t too big a surprise. Still, I’m sad.

Best wishes to the cast and crew in their future endeavors!

I don’t want Castle be cancel! I Love
Castle. I watch it a lot. You better not
cancel Castle! I Love the show.

I really love this show and am sad to see it end. It will be an amazing stunt to tie up all the loose ends and I don’t see ABC giving the viewers a satisfied ending to the show. How sad. They could have run the gambit and ended the series properly.

I am not a big Castle fan, When I watched it, it was ok. Most shows don’t last this long ,and just end up being repeated plots. The reality shows are taking over all channels. The voice is on every night, DWTS is just a big joke. ABC is about money, money and money. Good luck to the cast and crew.

Very upset over this . I recorded every Monday night it was on, so excited to watch this show. I really hope you bring this back. Am sure ALOT of person are very upset over this.

What are you gonna do now. Don’t want to miss any shows you appear on

If all the people who do not like those reality shows and like real shows and real soaps and the Hallmark Channel take a stand and refuse to watch all the junk and trash they put on TV now…..then maybe, just maybe they will put some decent shows back on the air.
