It’s a very sad day for soap fans, once again!  The time has come to put an end to the reboot of Dallas.

After the #SaveDallas campaign began in early October and picked up so much steam, it simply was not enough for the series showrunners, Cynthia Cidre and Michael Robin to find a new cable home for the soap after it being dumped by TNT at the conclusion of its third season cliffhanger.

In a statement released today to DallasDecoder.com, Cidre and Robin let the fans know and all  that supported their efforts, that they have been unable to find a new home for the series and are ending their search.  Below is the statement.

Cidre and Robin Joint Statement: “Friends … Well, we have come to the end.  After a 6-week attempt to try and land our beloved Dallas at another network, we have to inform you that we have not succeeded. Warner Horizon has attempted, in a Herculean way, to try and find us a new home, but at the end of the day it did not work out.

We so appreciate the outpouring of support by all of you, and the #SaveDallas campaign was a truly remarkable undertaking. We cannot fully express how much we loved making this show for you and with you. We had 3 wonderful years together, and we had the times of our lives bringing this iconic show back to television. Thank you for your support; thank you for your loyalty to our wonderful characters; and thank you for watching our show.

We wish you all our very best, and thank you again for loving Dallas.  With great admiration and appreciation, Cynthia Cidre and Michael Robin”

So Dallas fans, what do you think of the news?  Heartbreaking? Were you of the belief that the reboot of Dallas could find a new home?  What will you miss the most know that it appears we have seen the last of Southfork! Share your thoughts below!

I really enjoyed this show. Never missed an episode and always watched live. It was appointment TV for me. I appreciate everyone’s efforts to keep the show alive and will miss it. Would have loved a resolution to the cliffhanger, at least. Best wishes to all involved for future success.

The original DALLAS and this DALLAS were both appointment TV for me from the very first episode of both series. I think if one of the major networks (ABC; NBC; or CBS) picked up the new series, it would be a hit. Ms. Cidre and Mr. Robin are, I think, amoung the best writers to ever work on television scripts. What a great, spell-binding time they provided us.

Although I am not happy to hear this news I wasn’t really expecting much. It seems like other genre’s can be rescued by the fans, just not soaps. I loved the first season completely. The second season started to lose me when they starter ading so many new characters at break neck speed. I kept up, loved seeing Judith LI ghat but the 3rd season really was on the fence for me. I think the wrtiers took too much liberty when they started inferring Southfork was anyone’s other than the Ewings. There was no way JR could have done anything with deeds when it belonged to Miss Ellie’s family dating back to the early days. Also did not appreciate the apparent murder of Christopher or the ridiculousness of a JR daughter. I understand there was a child he did not know much about, but to insinuate a daughter was nuts. How about the son he had prior to John Ross? Why not utilize that character.
Sad to see it go, but didn’t see much enjoyment for me personally with the way it was going.

Like you, I enjoyed the first season, but lost interest halfway into the second season. I thought I might binge-watch to catch up, but obviously wasn’t interested enough to do that. I’m not sure why…maybe it was the two “boys”…John Ross & Christopher… that didn’t grab me.
Anyway, I sorry for those that loved the show, but it really doesn’t matter to me that it’s not coming back.
Now if they could bring back Knots Landing, with most of the originals, I could get into that!

TNT failed to recognize its audience. DALLAS started off strong on Wednesday Nights in the mid to late summer three years ago. It aired at the perfect time of the night for fans to enjoy. Then in their zest for winter ratings, it was forced back onto the air in the dead of winter on a Monday night to fight for ratings on an already powerful night for cable as well as network programming. And yes, with the loss Larry Hagman was a hit to the show, but the wriiing and acting never faltered. If only TNT had not messed with what it had; A HIT SUMMER SERIES, fans might not be feeling the loss of this great show.

Completely agree with you. DALLAS was a good show – it had it’s faults but it never failed to entertain on a weekly basis. But the biggest mistake was taking a successful summer series and moving it to the regular season. DALLAS was fluffy popcorn fun – it simply couldn’t stand up to the regular slate full of fall and spring shows. While I understand the need to make the attempt to see if it could thrive against stiffer competition, once they discovered it couldn’t, I fully expected them to course correct and return it to an annual summer series. Instead, TNT stayed the course – learning nothing – and let the series burn out. Losing Larry Hagman was a hard blow as it was and TPTB should have realized the series needed some nurturing after that unfortunate event.

The should have attempted to get a wrap up movie made – the chances would have been better. A two or four hour movie could have gotten financed between DVD/VOD sales, domestic and foreign licensing. “Dallas- The End. ” Really crappy to leave off on a cliffhanger.

I read fans of dark shadows never got over its’ no ending, so i can see how the dallas fans may never get past it also..
always wondering how it would have ended / closure..

shows like dallas are very expensive to produce and maintain, and the broadcast networks are not able to support big productions as dallas..
It needs cable ..

Farewell to a very good soap. Never missed an episode.

I am very upset and sad, that another network did not pick up dallas. RIP. Too many crappy reality shows out there. I only watch the voice and Dancing with the stars. I no longer watch American idol, that needs to be cancelled. I am very grateful we still have 4 Daytime soaps left. I love watching Days of our lives, GH and The Young and The Restless. We need to support and watch the soaps. Amen.

DALLAS was my favorite show on tv and it will be missed. Grateful that we had three seasons, but it should have ended better. I like Nick’s idea above about they should have at least done a tv movie/wrap-up.

I’m not a fan of Cidre so glad to hear she is moving on. This provides an opportunity someone more talented and actually knows how to produce a prime-time soap to come along and take another stab at the Dallas reboot. I’ve had enough of Cidre.

I agree. I was not impressed with her “spin” on the Ewings and “Dallas.” She didn’t seem to know or to appreciate fundamental elements about the original show that were a key to its success.

Cidre is was not only wrong for Dallas but any show. Having a new vision for the show isn’t necessarily a bad thing but awful writing riddled with continuity errors from episode to episode and personality-du-jour are massive problems. Compound it with completely illogical plots and twists that make no sense or worse yet damage the characters, and you have a show not worth saving.

TNT SUCKS!!!

totally agree!,

I am so sorry to hear this news. I really enjoyed this show and its amazing cast. My very best wishes to everyone in the future.

Well, that sucks!!

Sad news indeed!

If Dallas had 14 or 15 great seasons before why end now. You can have 14 more seasons on USA network or CBS before Blue Blood on Fridays. Move Hawaii five o to TNT.Dallas should not cancel nor end the series to keep the program on the air in memory of Larry Hagman. If he were still alive the network or the writers wouldn’t end Dallas. I say at least air through the Winter on any network. Do what you have done to other soaps leave the airways but,air them through Hulu etc.as you do for All my Children and One Life to Live. Get ready for the feuding soap opera divas, when five actresses known for their signature primetime and daytime roles are brought together in Lifetime’s new holiday film, Ladies of the ’80s: A Divas Christmas.

Saturday night, December 2nd on Lifetime (8pm ET/7PM CT) marks the highly-anticipated holiday movie premiere featuring: Donna Mills (ex-Knots Landing), Nicolette Sheridan (ex-Knots Landing), Morgan Fairchild (ex-Falcon Crest et al), Linda Gray (ex-Dallas) and Loni Anderson (ex-WKRP in Cincinnati).

Here’s what we do know! In story, five alums from the long-running soap, The Great Lakes reunite for a live Christmas finale. Uh-oh!  Now take a look at the backstory of the colorful cast of characters (pay special attention to the clever twists on the actresses names!)

LAUREN EWING (Linda Gray) “Everyone thinks I’m so damn good all the time,” confesses the junk food-loving Lauren of her second act as a lifestyle guru. “I don’t know how Gwenyth Paltrow does it!”

DANA CUNNINGHAM (Donna Mills) Now a sitcom mom, she’s yet to make amends to ex-bestie Juliette after abruptly leaving the soap back in the day. Not that she hasn’t tried: “When I thought the world was going to end in Y2K,” Dana says, “I reached out to her, and she never called me back.”

LILY MARLOWE (Loni Anderson) After replacing Dana on ‘Great Lakes’, Lily never again found a role to win her acclaim. “What do I have to show for (my career)? An arc on  For the People – Shonda Rhimes’ only flop!”

JULIETTE MATHESON (Nicollette Sheridan) “She left me for L.A.,” the party girl turned fashion mogul recalls of Dana’s betrayal. Will their feud derail the entire event?

MARGEAUX ROBERTS (Morgan Fairchild) “Fasten your face-lifts, ladies, it’s gonna be a bumpy weekend!” The sassy grande dame of ‘Great Lakes’ sees the Juliette-Dana beef as the perfect escape from her own domestic drama.

Now, making this all the more hysterical is the director of The Great Lakes reunion special, which makes the five women live under the same roof, is its former child star Alex, who has gotten his ex-girlfriend, Nell to direct the finale. Meanwhile, in the subplot. the ‘Ladies of the ’80s’ come up with a plan to get Alex and Nell back together.

As with any good soap opera, there is a major food fight. Linda Gray shared with USA Today ,”The food fight was one take. And it was fabulous.” And of course, their is a bitch-fest slap-fest. Morgan Fairchild revealed, “Oh honey, we all got ours in. Mine was a simple, ‘How dare you?’ with a slap. But I was hoping for a punch.”

The movie’s EP, Larry Thompson, who is a Hollywood manager and has Donna Mills as a client, said that the entire scene peaks with the”slapfest coup de grâce.” What is that exactly? That is when Donna Mills pushes Nicollette Sheridan into a pool in a nod to Dynasty’s Lily bond battle between Dynasty’s Alexis (Joan Collins) and Krystle (Linda Evans).

In case you missed it previously, check out the trailer for Ladies of the ’80s: A Divas Christmas below, also starring Patrika Darbo, Alec Mapa, Mills real-life daughter, Chloe Mills, and Christopher Atkins with theme song by Tiffany.
