DAYS Casting New Female Role: Who Would You Suggest For The Part?

Courtesy/NBC

Days of our Lives has sent out another casting call for another new character.  This time it’s for the part known as “Deanna”.

According to Soap Opera Digest, the NBC series is looking to fill the recurring role of a gorgeous, African-American young female, age 25-30.

The character is described as, “confident, edgy, strong, intelligent female.  She has overcome obstacles in her past that make her the strong independent woman she is today.  In her her chosen field, vulnerability is a liability so her tough exterior can sometimes make her hard to read.  She is sexy and knows how to have fun and craves a little danger to keep things interesting.”

With the previous casting call of  mid 1970’s character Valerie Grant having gone out, could this be her daughter who comes to Salem?  To many this sounds like a recast of Lani, since Sal Stowers was let go from the show, but is it?

When reading the casting call, what do you think “Deanna’s” chosen field of work is? And more, importantly which actress from daytime or primetime TV do you think fits the part, and that the DAYS casting director should take a look at?  Share your thoughts below!

Wish they could cast Brook Kerr (Ex-Whitney, Passions) for this

I love Brook Kerr too!

Me too Brian, Brook is a wonderful actress and pretty lady too.

Yes, definitely Brook Kerr. Loved her in PASSIONS.
Another gorgeous tontender would have been YAYA DaCOSTA….unfortunately she’s been taken by CHICAGO MED.

but she is in her 40s now…

You’re right, Jimmy. Brooke is in her 40’s. Time flies.
Love Keke Palmer….

I had a chance to see keke in person one Christmas but didnt go-she would make a nice addition.

@CeeCee (and jimh….) How about if Days poaches Val from GH???? Her character has been completely stagnant since she played a part in Dante’s adultery, and no matter what else is concocted for her, that’s all for which she’s ever going to be known.

@Shay.
You’re so right, Shay! Sad!!!! Call me strange, but I am beginning to appreciate Brytni, as an actress….and, if I am to be honest with myself, Valerie made a big leap in the ‘liking’ department, as well. This, coming from moi? Her affair with Dante disfigured any positive image I may have cultivated towards her. But, I moved on.
Nonetheless, the ‘homewrecker’ stigma will always be present, as you indicatd. That scarlet letter radiates more than ever, as we witnessed in the park scene where she literally bumps into Lulu and Dante. Talk about he proverbial, metaphorical elephant in the room……I saw a wooly mammoth.

My BIG problem with a VERY pretty Valerie was #1, we know nothing about her. She rode into town with a white mother and was connected to the legendary Spencer family. WHAT? #2 She screwed over her cousin and screwed her husband. #3 She has disappeared only to show up with G.I Joe Black! [They suck as a couple!] Well, now that the cousins have made up I am thinking along your lines Cee. Brytni is a good actress. Easy on the eyes. COULD be relevant in a good story. But mostly what I see is this, she did CluLu a favor if she wasnt so stupid or in love? DOGnte is a Corinthi and like Sonny boy, the dog doesnt piss far from the tree! Lulu should have left Dante in the dust and headed right to Dillon’s doorstep. No, Lulu is reading “How to save a Marriage” books and Dillon has his sights set on Kiki which I LOVE! Take a hike Morgan! ;Another Cornithi!]

@CeeCee….I don’t know…for me, Val falls into the same formulaic category that so many GH characters do….they were brought on to great (and in my mind, often undeserved) fanfare for a brief, but specific, moment, then just became another albatross to the canvas, hanging around for dear life without any justifiable purpose….can you say Nina, Hayden, Sabs, Jordan, etc.???? It shouldn’t be so difficult to create an exciting character from the start and keep them enticing…it looks like Finn and Griffin are finally breaking that mold, but what took so long? Previously, the last new characters to really catch fire and one’s imagination were Britt and Dr. O., and that was years ago!.

@Timmm….Yep, it’s also still rubbing me the wrong way that CluLu took back that dirty dog, Dante….He’s been forever sullied in my eyes, as well. It was bad enough that he cheated on his wife, but to do it with her cousin made it twice, even thrice, as disgusting. No matter how much I don’t like to see a family torn asunder, in this case I would make the exception if only Lulu had the gumption to tell her wayward hubby to take a hike. She has been far toooo forgiving and self-blaming as far as I’m concerned!

@Timmm.
Hey, Timmmy,
Yes, great sentiments we both have for Valerie. But, Shay is right. ‘Tis very hard to erase those nagging peccadillos. There needs to be a spectacular happening…..an all-encompassing altruistic and heroic act on her part. TPTB have the tools to do that. If Valerie is to stay, her aura needs to change. But, as it happens in soaps, time makes us forget.
Also, I still have Rose’s words roaming around my head….that Valerie is a Quartermaine scion. It is the only way Valerie’s feet will be firmly cemented onto PC soil.

Elena Goode (ex-Jade, ATWT)

Salem is still the least diverse city on Daytime. It’s beyond sad.

Would be nice if Valerie remet David years ago(off camera) and had his daughter but he broke up with her to take care of an ill Trish-his ex- and so Val never told him she was prego-however, Valerie was also seeing Deimos and he could be her father!!!

Ive GOT IT…. Valerie Grant as played by Debbie Morgan

and…. ta-da…. bring smart sexy and CAN ACT ! Allison Paige back… as her daughter

OK …. LOL Allison has been a recurring actor known as Bev Walters

OK , OK she could be Julies granddaughter… David Banner is her father

I’d take this

David Banning…

To me this sounds just like the casting call they once put out for Abby….and I suggest Brittany Underwood as always for this role!

I always suggest her too…she would be perfect for the part.

Sal Stowers, just replace Lani with Deanna. It’s a soap nobody would care.

Clap for this. I was thinking the same thing, this would be perfect. No harm, no foul.

selena gomas as abby jens daughter

Scrap the casting of this role, and continue writing for Sal Stowers’ Lani, who I believe has real potential to become a lasting character on the DAYS canvas.

Chrystee Pharris is good too a bit younger than Brook Kerr…..

They got rid of Sal Stowers recently, and this sounds a lot like a recast for the role of Lani to me. Though I doubt it, since she hasn’t really made an impact yet. And if it is really a recast, why bother? Sal is a great actress and I think they jumped the gun with her firing, without giving her a chance to hold down a story of her own, the way she did on AMC when Cassandra was kidnapped.

I don’t think it will matters anymore. I used to get excited when these casting calls went out and tried to speculate who the character would be and how they would affect the canvas. Then pretty much every time the character was a complete waste of time, or the writers get changed so the character get drops or ignored, so whoever the actress is she shouldn’t get her hopes up that this will be long term gig– most new characters rarely stay more than a year or two on most soaps if they are lucky.

Sal Stowers as Deanna, I would definitely start watching again, even though the love of my life Greg Vaughan (Eric) is leaving, penny 🙁

davetta sherwood
(ex lily winters) from y n r
shes got lots of spunk and is really attractive.
sony owes her anyways after they fired her to return cryshal to the role, personally i prefered her as dru s daughter a million times more
also let o was adrianne leon as colleen who would make a great abby horton
i could see davetta and jj as a hot couple!

Yes, damien…..also, Brooke Marie Bridges….such a beautiful girl !!!!!

Could Deanna be another one of Abe’s long lost child? As Nicole Walker is Helena’s long lost daughter given up for adoption?

Deanna?!!

That’s taking Mary-Sueing to a whole new level!

Stephen Schnetzer Talks On His Return to Days of our Lives and Working with Susan Seaforth Hayes In Emotional Episodes

Who says you can’t go home again? In the case of Another World favorite, Stephen Schnetzer (ex-Cass Winthrop), he has proven that it is true, and you can go back to your soap roots and where it all started for you.

Last week on April 11th, Schnetzer, along with several other key returns were on set at Days of our Lives taping all-new episodes of the Peacock streaming soap opera, centering on the funeral of Doug Williams (the late Bill Hayes), and as part of the iconic soap opera’s 15,000th episode.

Stephen is reprising his first daytime role as Steve Olson, the brother of Julie Williams (Susan Seaforth Hayes). The last time Schnetzer appeared on a DAYS set was during his one and only run on the show from 1978 to 1980. Clearly, viewers will be in for some very emotional scenes when Steve returns to Salem to be there for his sister, Julie in her time of need. In real-life, Susan has been going through her own grief, having just lost Bill back on January 12th at the age of 98.

Michael Fairman TV caught up with Stephen during the 15K episode celebration ceremony, and during a break from taping the gut-wrenching funeral scenes, to get his thoughts on being part of these highly-anticipated moments that will air later this year in December. Here’s what he shared with us below.

What has this been like for you to work with Susan Seaforth Hayes after all of these years?

STEPHEN: She’s a dream and she’s so bright. We ran lines yesterday and we ended up just visiting for about 45 minutes and just catching up and telling tales about each other’s career. She even dropped off the autobiography that she and Bill did. And being back here at DAYS, every time I turn a corner, there’s another familiar face. When I was on the show 40 more years ago, a bunch of the guys, played softball on a team together. This is really a trip down memory lane as I knew it would be.

Taping Doug’s funeral must be a hard day for Susan. Are you checking in with her to help hold her up through this?

STEPHEN: I am and I’m checking in with Amy Shaughnessy (Susan’s assistant), and she’s holding her up more than anybody. We’re there for each other.

There will obviously be some major hankie-inducing moments when Steve comes back to Salem to console his sister.

STEPHEN: Oh, wait till you see it in December. It’s going to be great.

Were you surprised you got this call to come back to the show decades later?

STEPHEN: It was out of the blue! I was completely surprised. They should have called me decades ago! That’s what surprised me. When Another World went down, I thought I’d land somewhere else and it never happened. That was more of a surprise.

Photo: JPI

Cass is such an identifiable character for you. As well, you and Linda Dano (ex-Felicia Gallant) are so synonymous together as best friends Cass and Felicia from Another World. When fans heard you were reprising your role as Steve Olson on DAYS, they are now hoping there will be more of you on the show to come.

STEPHEN: Steven Olson is a real “Cassian “character. I cut my teeth on Steve Olson and that’s how Cass was introduced. He was kind of a roguish charmer. And then when the character stuck for Another World, they rehabilitated me, and turned me into one of the shows heroes. And that’s what would’ve happened if I stayed as Steve Olson probably. So, Steve is the ‘pre-Cass’, Cass.

Photo: JPI

As the story goes, you originally decided to leave Days of our Lives?

STEPHEN: I was never on contract. I was doing a day and a half a week and I got a Broadway play directed by Franco Zeffirelli starring Joan Plowright and Frank Finlay. I was able to it as I didn’t have to break a contract or anything. I cut loose and went back to New York for that.

How well did you get to know Bill Hayes during your first time around on DAYS?

STEPHEN: My first episode was with Bill and Susan, as her long lost brother coming into Salem. They were so good to me. They were so kind. I had been doing eight years of classical repertory theater, never been in front of a camera. I tell everybody, it took me longer than any other actor I’ve ever seen to get comfortable in front of a camera. And they were very supportive at that time in my career. Coming back to honor Bill now in 2024, and to be see Susan, I am just so happy to be here.

Looking forward to seeing the scenes between Stephen and Susan Seaforth Hayes come December and Doug’s funeral and surrounding episodes? Do you hope that DAYS might bring the character of Steve Olson back for a longer stay? Comment below.
