NBC’s Days of our Lives has a lot of storylines planned for its 2016 run as the show is now well into its golden anniversary season.  In this week’s issue (1/4/16) of Soap Opera Digest on newsstands now, the publication has its annual 2016 preview section for all four network daytime dramas, which is a must read for soap fans.

In the case of DAYS, executive producer Ken Corday teased fans of  the sudser on what to expect in all the major storylines including: a New Year’s Eve tragedy, the future of Steve (Stephen Nichols) and Kayla (Mary Beth Evans), Chad (Billy Flynn) and Abigail (Kate Mansi), John (Drake Hogestyn) and Marlena (Deidre Hall), Hope (Kristian Alfonso) and Rafe (Galen Gering), and others.

Corday also revealed a game-changer to happen sometime in 2016 relating:  “A major character is murdered in cold blood. This will be the biggest thing in Salem and the ripple effects will be felt for many, many months.”

So this begs the question:  What character do you will think be killed off as part of this  murder storyline that will begin at some point in 2016?  Share your theories in the comment section below!

Seriously? they think murder and mayhem is what we want to see? Ugh! I want to hear about all the love stories coming up, some adventure, maybe a big wedding or two! DAYS is WAY past due for this.

I agree…too much gloom and doom…i havent felt well in recent days and hoping for stuff like you suggested to perk me up…Days used to do well with love and adventure-i dont know what makes them think otherwise…i wouldnt mind a good old fashioned wedding…i just went on youtube and watched a big soap wedding from Another World made back in 1968 and it was beautiful…they used a huge church filled with many extras and had a hall for the wedding party filled with guests and there was music and dancing…no cliched interuptions with a shooting or claiming the groom was already married…the wedding was very realistic and entertaining the way a soap should be…now this was a kinescope taken off a monitor and is black and white with some flaws and not the original color tape but its so good that that doesnt matter…if you or any other poster would like to see it on youtube its Another World July 1-3 1968…and you dont have to be an AW fan to enjoy this wonderful classic…maybe if the four remaining soaps were more like this they could be doing so much better!!!

Exactly–why more murders? Enough is enough.

Really, what is with the unhappy theme of this show. Why not bring some comedy, love. I can’t wait to watch the show and all I get is sadness. Check rating on some of the comedy shows. In this age of real life murders we need good time shows to take our minds off the reality of our real world.

To make you feel better, Eastenders’ post-Christmas episode just saw one of its characters trapped in a car trunk and was crushed to death over at a junkyard.

Sorry you haven’t been feeling well, Jimh 🙁 … I know what you mean though, because the soaps helped me get through a really hard time in my life, they are more than just fluff, I wish they’d get the credit they deserve for brightening peoples’ lives and giving them something to look forward to every day. Not everyone has a perfect life. They are a lifeline for shut-ins, etc. There needs to be a balance between “gloom and doom” and “love and happiness”. The characters go through some really hard things, but at the end of the arc, there needs to be a happy payoff for the fans. That’s what keeps us watching. The beautiful, lavish weddings on DAYS .. that’s what I remember. And, of course, the months and MONTHS of beautiful, romantic angst leading up to those weddings. I will have to check out that wedding from AW, thanks for alerting me to it! 🙂

bring on the murders!!!

If I could I would give Days the GH writers .. heh
((then they could have all the dull anticlimactic mush they could want..

I agree!

I agree. I like murder mysteries on Days. For awhile there, I thought a murder on New Year’s Eve on Days of Our Lives was becoming a yearly tradition.
So far, Days Of Our Lives has not been renewed past September 2016. I assume they will be filming for August 2016 in 2 more months, since they are filming 5 1/2 months to 6 months ahead of schedule.
So go ahead and let Days of Our Lives kill off anyone they want to, to bring the television viewers back into it, if Days is going to be cancelled.
I wish Days of Our Lives was available on NBC On Demand, so I can watch the days episode when I can. My internet is at a slower speed to watch it online. But I just found that Days Of Our Lives is on the POP channel at 8:00pm.

It all sounds great! I have been watching Days for 48 years and love every minute of it. I wonder if it will be Stephano because he is looking tired, or Victor because Caroline is seeing visions of him grabbing his chest. I do hope that it’s not Jennifer th as t gets into the accident. Great job Days writers!

No it isn’t Jennifer that will be killed, it will be Daniel. From what I have read both cars are involved in the accident and Daniel doesn’t make it.

Perhaps Batty Ben will escape from the nuthouse and murder Chad after finding out that the baby is Chad’s and not his. I also think that Stefano’s days are numbered and crazy Andre will take over as Salem’s new villain. Victor may also die soon, perhaps from his heart attack. Caroline will soon follow him. I’m also thinking that Ava will murder either Steve or Kayla.

We all must remember that Joseph Mascolo (Stefano) is 85 years old, and John Aniston (Victor) is 83, and Peggy McCay (Caroline) is 87, so they can’t last forever.

Kill off Stephano!
Patch and Kayla–take to the moon and back!
Chad and Abby–shooting star-crossed lovers–bring togehter in a heart-wrenching climax–great actors with great chemistry.
Rafe and Hope–there’s hope for a great and tender love story–Galen does it all with those melting brown eyes–mmmm.

Thats who i said ‘Stephano’ when the subject came up before

I believe Stephano also and Andre will kill him.

I would vote Stefano, too. He has been dead and ‘risen’ like 11 times, maybe more. So if he was murdered, how would we know he is REALLY dead again? LOL!

I think it will be Victor. He has lots of skeletons in the many closets.

I always dread when they bring Stefano back. Kill him off for good. And how many times is Chad going to lose his memory? Enough already.

I did hear or rather read somewhere I think that Joe Mascalo was looking to retire.

I don’t blame him, it sounds like he’s not in the best of health. But it’s a strange world knowing that Bo and Stefano will never be on Days again.

I know I am in the minority and I am sure to be bashed, but I never was a fan of Peter Reckell, I think he was a horrible actor. I do however think Bo should have lived. Of Reckell didn’t want to stay (Which like it or not was the case.) They should have recast the role. Ricky Paull Goldin (ex-Gus, GL) would have been a good recast. Heck bring back Robert Kelker Kelly even!

John Aniston/Victor is also wanting to retire, or so I’ve heard. Either Stefano or Victor getting killed would rock a lot of lives.

I agree with Phil. I wouldn’t mind if they brought back Robert Kelker Kelly as “Bo” or another character. He has another career now as a pilot or teaching in pilot school, something like that, but he made a special appearance on General Hospital as a villain during their anniversary and he was outstanding. He has found the fountain of youth too. He was in wonderful shape and looked young.

The first name that came to my mind was Stefano. This could be tough since he is the Phoenix and can rise from the ashes which we have seen many times before but I am also keeping in mind that Ken Corday did say a little while back that he really doesn’t want to do anymore of these “back-from-the-dead” storylines so even if it is Stefano, we’re not going to believe he is actually dead. Who could get us to feel shock for months after the murder? I’m willing to say Roman but I could be way off base.

Or it could be John Black because his life has been threatened.

It will be Daniel. I love the idea of killing Stephano, but know one would care.

I dont think he will be the murdered victim…i believe Danials death will be the tragedy on New Years Eve and he will be killed by a drunk driving Erik!!

That’s the most logical premise, Jimmy. I think everyone is not too keen on Stefano, so his loss wouldn’t be such a big deal to most; except, of course, that I would miss Joseph. He’s been such an outstanding figure for so long, he has become a permanent fixture, lol. Would his murder be shocking to anyone? Daniel is the probable answer, I guess.

Jennifer is the one driving the car that crashes.

Daniel dies from the car crash, not cold blood

That’s right, deb. I wasn’t thinking. If Daniel is to die from a crash, then, you’re right. It is definitely not murder. So, it could still be Stefano….not shocking, though. Roman? John? Caroline? Major character could actually be anyone that’s been on the show a few years. Happy New Year.

Nope – Daniel dies on NYE – he’s not the murder victim.

I just saw the commercial for the preview of Days of our lives not even 2 minutes ago it shows the doctor tell Abby that Ben Can’t Be The Father of her baby and then it says a new year tragedy it shows jen driving and she yells no and Trys to avoid getting hit but it shows them rushing Jennifer through the Hospital Doors On a Gerny Jennifer was alone in her car so who is driving the other car Daniel? & poor Maggie If it is Daniel he is her son and Jennifer is her niece. Because it says that Maggie is dealing with 2 Major things at once so you have Jennifer that for sure is in that car wreck and it shows Abby with her baby I can’t tell if something is wrong with him but the doctor tells her that Ben Can’t Be The Father so that is 2 people plus whoever else is driving the other car and it shows a new year party underway and I think it’s Ava Vitali making a entrance. Last time she was on here she was responsible for the death of Shawn Brady , Kayla S Dad and she just forgave her Crazy Self Lord Only Knows What she has planned for them all this time around because she said the other day that she Will Not Fail This Time! !

Daniel won’t be in a cold blood but in a car crash. Seems it will be Stefano killed.

Eric is in the car with Jennifer. I read somewhere that she is driving because Eric is drunk.

Oh okay thanks Charlotte.

There are 3 cars involved.
Jennifer -alone
Eric – alone
Daniel & Brady , who are together in the car.

Make that no one will care.
I love Steve and Kayla. Maggie keeps Victor in line. Any other couple I have no interest in.

Victor much more fun to watch when he has a edge to him…don’t get me wrong I love Maggie, but apparently one of Victor’s misdeeds of the past is going to come back to haunt him according to spoiler’s/rumors and I’m going to thoroughly enjoy watching it all unfold

Oh, Louise, I love Victor. I’ll take him any way I can. Maggie is not in the running for me.

Rafe and Hope = DOA (dead on arrival!) That’s what happens when, aside from being forced and contrived, the 32 legacy of your show’s signature, iconic supercouple is infringed upon by a dull interloper whose feelings are completely UNreciprocated by the surviving member of aforementioned supercouple. #Nope2Rope

Both KA and GG deserve better!

Thank you very much, MP. I simply detest the idea of a Hope and Rafe liaison. Hope has not one ounce of spice in her body. Not now, anyway….she left it somewhere along the way between the 80’s and the present….my grandmother’s words, which I consider sacrosanct. As Nancy said, Rafe is just too yummy to be wasted on Hope.

Lol!! I read about Hope not having any spice; giggled and looked up to see the author …. Why, it’s you CeeCee!!! Cracking me up but yeah, twiggy is no longer captivating. Sorry, i had to go there but Hope & Rafe – no way! Galen is too hot for her. Kinda liked him with Kate

You are right about Hope not having spice. I don’t think she has since the Princess Gina storyline.

I love it. I lost all my interest in Hope during the stupidity of the princess Gina story and have never been able to enjoy her completely since. IMO the story about Bo dying was only good because of such a wonderful performance by Peter Reckell. Watching Hope dissolve into a crazy irritation mess isn’t entertaining. Bo gave her something to do in what he said to her after he died…but this revenge thing ain’t it…get it together girl and figure out what he really meant

@Ces.
Lol and ohhh, yeah!! Kate can turn on a piece of wood with one sultry look……oops, that’s a mere coincidence…HaHa. Rafe and Kate could sure steam up the screen! He is one hot pepperone. Hope more like flat-bread. She is neither here nor there for me. Too ordinary, as it were. I don’t get her at all. She was eager enough to marry pie-face without regrets…now, she’s all gung-ho on revenge, which suddenly surfaced because of her great love for Bo? Louise is right…”get it together” and analyze Bo’s words. Without Peter, Hope is nothing, at this point.

Hope is old enough to be Rafes mother! I think they need to put him with Abe’s daughter or bring back Carrie for him. That would really drive Sammy mad.

Watch out, Andi or you’ll be called ageist by a certain busy-body. LOL. I agree with you. But, sometimes it depends of whom we are speaking. Some of us loved Rafe with Kate. and, yes, I liked Carrie with him, as well.

IT really doesn’t matter that Hope is old enough to be Rafes’ mother. It is where is in his heart and right now that is Hope. And besides Bo knew that Rafe loved her that is why he ask Rafe to take care of her, and being the person that he is he is going to do just that…. On with Rafe and Hope.

I do think Rafe is being unduly propped. That he is on almost every single day and the forcing of Hope prior to even the death of Bo is just too much and far too unnatural.

Sorry guys but Rafe is cute but a total soap stereotype.

Give me more of Steve Johnson and his lady love. Now that is chemistry.

I still think its Stephano but it could also be Victor, Caroline, Doug…just about anybody and it could be a shocker…Days better be careful who they kill off next-alienating fans like Days had done in 1980 could hurt the show and you don’t have that many soap viewers like you had back then to help you recover…so far the teens acting is just so-so and not good enough to carry this show into the future if the show even has one…i still like Days and hope it sticks around…just know it could do much better than just killing off characters to gain viewers attention-this could backfire and it has before!!!

Stefano has been “killed” many times on Days Of Our Lives, but he always returns alive. Remember, Stefano is “The Phoenix”. Not even fire can kill him forever. The Phoenix rises again.
I know that Joseph Mascolo is getting closer to 90, so if he feels it is time for retirement then okay. But if he wants to stay on Days Of Our Lives until he naturally passes away, I would accept that too.
They wouldn’t dare kill Caroline Brady again, although Peggy McCay is 85 now.
Maybe it is “Daniel” they will kill off since he is leaving the show. “Melanie” is returning after all.

So has Andre/ Tony!! I hope its Andre myself!!! I’d love to see Abby and Chad together and Kayla and Steve together also.

Seems Daniel will be dying on the New Year’s Eve next week. The cold blood murder is Stefano.

Eve will be murdered…

Dont think Eve is murdered.

I don’t think Eve is leaving until February.

Good riddance Kassie; she never belonged on this show and certainly not as Eve.

Are we watching the same show? Kassim has nailed it on DAYS and in my opinion could act circles around Charlotte Ross! Her being fires is the BIGGEST mistake DAYS has made along with killing Will Horton!

I agree about Kassie, Ces. Although she is one of my faves, as every actor/character on OLTL, I did not feel a connection to Eve on Days. I don’t think she felt a connection to the soap, herself. And, of course, as good of a thespian she may be, she does not have that come-hither-look or sexiness about her.

Kassie DePaiva already confirmed she’s not being killed off the soap, leaving the door open for her potential return.

Phil, she’s a bit old looking for the part for starters. She isnt sexy or Eve like, she’s very twangy and I just dont care for her on this show. She fit in with the Buchanans over on OLTL not with this group.

I dont see any reason why Days would bring her back.

CeeCee, she was fine on OLTL but she just didnt fit in at Days; glad you agree with me!

I think that Victor will be murdered.

Better not be Victor, Maggie, or Caroline. Murder André I never did like him or Tony. Steve and Kayla can go. Roman can go you never see him except when he’s arresting a family member. I would bet it’s maybe Phillip. No one likes this new guy anyway. Someone should shoot the casting director after the awful job they have done since Will, Clyde, Jordan and Ben. I had to fast forward past all of them so much that I was missing most of the show.

I disagree. I want Andre to stay around because he is so good at what he does.Corday did says that a major character, which Philip is not, will be murdered. By the way, you cannot say that no one likes the new Philip. You can only speak for yourself. It is not the casting director’s fault that the writers messed up the storylines involving Will, Clyde, Jordan and Ben. As to who is going to be murdered my guesses are John Black, Belle or Stefano.

Maybe it will be Caroline,or perhaps she will see who the murder is,I wouldn’t mind it being Jennifer, even Marlana or John there story does nothing for me at all frankly I find if to be pretty dull and boring.. I like Eve. I dont think they would kill Doug or Julie would they ? Then again I never did think that Will would be killed off either,Oh goodness who is the murderer going to be this time.?

it was simply a matter of time…. for “Doug” and Julie to bequeath…. JJ and Abs… that it is their wish that both of them continue to carry on the Horton Tradition

seeing this thread.. I thought…. is Doug going to die
then for whatever reason… Doug not mentioning to Jennifer that she continue the christmas tradition

could it be Jennifer who is brutally murdered?

her character… IS most certainly a “Major” one at that

so … my guess is it could be Jenn

I’m hoping they bring back grandma Laura Horton…

It’s going to be an old enemy of Victor and they will kill Phillip.

Apparently Victor framed his own brother for a crime. And now his son’s brother is coming to Salem. So my guess is that it will be Victor who will be murdered by the this vengeful nephew. Or this vengeful nephew will kill Maggie or Brady.

I heard Daniel dies. I love him on the show. If he wants to leave, just replace him please.

I’m gona say,Caroline will be murdered in cold blood, because of the serum, she’s been having visions of Victor dying,an he moved her in his house to protect her, just the little signspointing to this an I beleive Philip will somehow be involved. Just my thoughts, but this would post certainly rock Salem.

A jealous Maggie murders Caroline after finding her in bed with Victor who died from a heartattack while making out with Caroline…then she serves Carolines remains in Carolines famous clam chowder down at the Brady Pub which causes everyone to have visions after eating the chowder…kidding…lol

Great post!!

I love this, Jimmy. What I would add to that would be………after eating the chowder, not only would the Brady Pub patrons have visions, but also, uttering…”Shawn, Shawn, Shawn….!!!!!”

My guess it will be Daniel or choles , son.

John. I bet that’s who will be murdered! They’ve already hinted to that with Eddie!

Only if Drake really wants to leave, which I don’t believe he does

Enough of the murders as to who get murdered maybe Andre

I wish!!!

Thaao Penghlis just signed a new long term contract. Corday and the writers have long term plans for Andre. He is going to take over from Stefano.

Hopefully-get rid of the demiras

Absolutely not!! Andre is such a great villain. And Billy Flynn is too good at what he does.

No it looks like it’s Stefano. That’s why they brought Andre back for good, Chad and Andre are the remaining DiMeras.

Andre’s just getting started.Thaao has a long term contract I honestly look forward to seeing much more of Andre What has made himmake him the way he is and can anything or anyone changed him? Make him more redeemable once again. There’s a rumor out there that LeaAnn Hundley might have a small part That would be awesome.I can handle Stefano dying but not because he’s murdered..they tried that already in 2011. People are against Andre because he’s interfering with their precious Chabby. In case you’re not aware of it ,that’s when Thaao’s at his best. Look back over his career on days. Except for the begin Thaao is days number one way torture the fans man next to Stefano

I’m thinking Victor. It will look like a heart attack, but they will find out that some one gave him something to induce a heart attack….thus making Caroline visions come true.
(she may solve the murder thru visions as well, after several visions lead up to the culprit that gave Victor the drug) It will be Philip, he’ll give Victor the drug that Vic had Caroline take only Vic will have a adverse reaction & die.

But in cold blood means they’ll be killed so that leaves Victor out. It seems it will be Stefano.

In the spoilers for DAYS it’s revealed that Victor framed his own brother who was sent to prison. Now the brother’s son Deimos is coming to Salem looking for revenge. That could mean killing Victor.

Oh that’s true. And yesterday Stefano talked about being tired, I wouldn’t be surprised if both Stefano and Victor were killed off the way they have been doing things. Guess it would free up big money for budget.

it will be daneill

daniel gets killed in a car crash on new years eve…………………

Nope. Daniel will be killed in the wreck and possibly Eric will have caused it.

Again?? What a way to start the year….more murders! Who’s the bad guy this time? Ava-what’s her name? Bah humbug!!!!!!

I’m so tired of doom and gloom on DOL . Not my idea of what DOL used to be . No fun, romance, mystery. I” done watching after 50 years. There is enough depressing things on the news …I don’t need to be sad and depressed watching a soap. Mr Corday I don’t think you have made good decision on the way for Days to go and if you check the ratings are now up either. Lots of people not happy with all the death and destruction. People leave recast…it happens all the time. You grow the kids up with recast the others can be done also or sent away.

It will be Stephano.

Chad will end up being the father of Abigail’s baby.

I think it’s going to be Kate. What is left for her to do ? The only man in town she hasn’t had sex with is A. Martinez

I see her doing that soon.with Rafes dad.I don’t see any reason to keep Kate she is a waste of space ,along with Jennifer.and like my late husband use to say she has peanut butter legs because they spread so easily ,Kate that is.

Another murder? There’ll be no one left alive soon!

Haahaha truth!

Enough with the murders. Hate that they destroyed Eric and #ericole.

I am a huge fan of hope williams. I have to say I want hope with rafe.

Perhaps the show needs a name change….”Deaths of Our Lives”. Why Corday & Co think this constant killing off of characters will draw an audience is beyond me.

The sad part is that unlike “Edge of Night” ,which featured murder & other crimes as a staple, Days doesn’t even do it that well. Most stories fall flat.

Daniel NYE. I think John will be murdered.

I’ve also heard Greg Vaughan is leaving. Is he the drunk driver who kills Daniel?

Well, Barb? My goodness.

Jennifer is driving the car and Eric is her passenger since he is drunk.

most dissapointing recasts!

1. John Paul Lavoisier – I knew from the get go…. he is just not working out or doing… “anything” that feels … “like Phillip” and as the son of… Victor and Kate

2. Vivian Jovanni – Ciara Alice Brady… try as I might… this is going nowhere too fast. even letting go of the uber wonderful Lauren Boles… i’m going to miss little Miss Marvel

I disagree on both accounts! Though it is a bit too soon to judge Philip….love the new Ciara, as do most critics!

Tired of these stupid story lines. Quit killing people off!!!!

Agreed! 5 murders in 2 or 3 months is ridiculous. Plus if I have to see that ridiculous outdoor wake/cemetery set one more time….. Salem is suppose to be in the Midwest. When it’s 20 degrees outside in the winter, us mid-westerners go inside. Wakes and funeral services are done indoors. We don’t sit out in a green garden in the middle of winter with a coat.

Don’t go into that damn park…all murders happen there….should be police patrols there….will the fatal car crash happen there too?

I think Corday is cleaning house. DOOL has not been renewed past September 2016. NBC has not said if they are going to cancel the show or not. All of these murders has been in an effort to bring more views to DOOL to convince NBC to renew. That means bringing in a new younger fan base. And the only way to do that is to make DAYS exciting and fun to watch.

I have watched this show for almost a year now and I have to say it is the most depressing and boring soap I have ever watched. The majority of the characters are soooo boring. Nothing watchable about Hope, Jennifer, Abigail, JJ, etc. And to make watching Hope even more boring, they add two teens that can’t act their way out of a paper bag and add nothing to the show, as soon as a scene starts at hopes house I fast forward.

I’ve been trying to hang in there, but it doesn’t sound like 2016 will be any different.

More than likely, the murder victim is going to be Stefano DiMera. As for whom the murderer is: inintially, I immediately thought to myself, it’s Andre. But…… It could very well be Sami too. Even Chad for that matter. Perhaps that brainwashing gig backfires???? Hmmmm…
At any rate, though it saddens me to be losing such a prolific actor as Joe Mascolo, I fully understand that [eventually] all great things must come to an end. Joe is one of Days’ most endeared, and feared actors in his role of Stefano. Many loved to hate the character which Joe has played with great aplomb!
I wish him a great retirement and the best of health. He will forever remain an icon of Days and be well remembered for years to come! God Bless you, Joe!! The Phoenix will rise eternally!! ❤️

Gloria

beautiful write-up on the forever leading act… Salem has ever REELed

perhaps in a fit of rage… STefano comes to his senses… and murders Andre… for what he’s done to one of his own….

Stefano… knowing his own timeliness is at an end…. rectifies what’s left of his Dynasty

TEARS!

when Thaao Penghliss “thread” the DiMera have always been beset with tragedy

perhaps it’s Stefano who has that heart attack… but, not before bring Chad to… and they bond that one last time… and Stefano tells Chad… EJ is still alive

sigh! for 50 years plus… Serials have needed that adversarial… the Phoenix…
Had it not been for the DiMera… Salem would no longer exist

point of interest: Joseph Mascolo… debuted on DAYS ; 1982 ; 33 years ago

I’m going to gavel ; for the King Pin chess magnate ;

“…I wish him a great retirement and the best of health “

joe mascola is having health issues & is retiring so it has to be stefano that gets killed in cold blood……………….

Here we go again. Don’t these writers know we want some peace and quiet. First, they make all the kids teenagers who can’t act (they are getting better or we are getting use to them) then they bring Bo back and in a minute he is dead. I thought he was in the Merchant Marines don’t that call for some kind of Military Funeral? Phillip what a joke he was a Marine and boy o boy does he look like a scuz bum now., I am not finding fault with the Marine Corp I have been married to one for 48 years. When he was married to Belle he had lost a leg and that was written in, in the story line. And, PLEASE, PLEASE don’t have Claire sing any more.

LOL

I certainly didn’t give notice of any significance or rewind in Claire

I was peeved that… just because…. Kassie DePaiva was fired! that they relegate Eve to floundering and gushing all about Claire

seriously?

I’m loving what little we do see of Eve… with Justin! these two are the main event! till her exit

DAYS ! Ken Corday! god how I wish … TPTB truly considered FAN voice

DAYS has been on a clean up slate… since; August 17, 2015

currently this is near 4 months in to the nuSHOWS

the one glaring whole… for me… which is constant… is the firing of Kassie DePaiva

outside of that… I can REEL with this

Paul must have a story to tell !?!? seriously?

so…. now… all of a sudden… Belle Black is the resident Legalese
LOL…. much to my chagrin… hit me upside the head… this is NOT OUR Aiden!

I can wait to see just what the writers have in store for Brandon Beemer’ nuSHAWN Douglas

woah! fire all the guns…. this trio of newbies are taking over

ie: Hope has moved on with lightning speed… her heart hasn’t been weakened in the least… over two of the greatest loves of her life…. Bo and Aiden

justifying at the audience… that Hope exacting revenge is good enough for letting the character move on that fast to Galen Gerring’ Rafe

this newbie in Ciara is killing fast… any and all interest in the pairing of Rafe and Hope… Lauren Boles was a magnet… she elevated this possible pairing

If there trying to reintroduce music back into the story with Claire they have already FAILED miserably

I agree with all you said. I’d like to see more of JJ and Gabby and Chad and Abigale and more of Rafe with someone other then Hope.

I think Eve will be the murder victim, by someone who is shooting for Eduardo – which will propel the John Black story forward and get rid of a poorly written character at the same time.

Stefano

They need to just stop the darkness and bloodshed now. I think chads brainwashing immediately after escaping bens murderous rampage was way too much. They are close to alienating everyone. Where’s the romance and joy and adventure?

ITA! I had hoped for a sweet little Chabby family Christmas, and instead I got THIS! I FF through every scene of Chad unless Abby is in it. Enough is enough!

Maybe they’ll murder Will …….again!!! (he he he)

I will be grandstanding… soapboxing…. heaving all my good intentions… from the mountaintop…..

“Dr. Daniel Jonas” is no longer in Salem!

I will be happy dancing… I will be grandstanding… giddy… and heartfull… that what ailed “all” that is DAYS… prior to the takeover (August 17, 2015) that the one character who was shoved in our every imagination…. “IS” at last… forever… GONE

Someone needs to replace Ken Corday, ge is driving this show into the ground. Murder and ppl dying do not equal ratings. What is it with soaps and sensationalism?? Why can’t people just leave town anymore?? The past 3 months on DAYS have been the most depressing EVER. I hope a regime comes in a resurrects Will Horton. MARK MY WORDS, like Frankenstein from AW, and Maureen from GL, DAYS WILL regret doing that one day very soon. Ken also needs to step up and own that he killed the gay storyline due to bigotry and ppl complaining, and he caved like the coward he is. It’s fun to feature gays when you are receiving emmy and accolades, but the minute u feel fire, he dumped them, and Will in the WORST way. Will and Sonny should’ve left together to repair their marriage and been recast down the line. The Bo fiasco is even worse. They simply should’ve reached out to RKK to reprise that role. DAYS is a joke and will be the next canceled soap.

Frankie……

some parts of me ; can’t blame the 6 month scheduling ( that they film this far in advance

CLEARLY; Ken Corday is not doing his job

he does not recognize the talent pool he did have?

OK… after the new year… i will no longer post of; Kassie DePaiva – Daniel Cosgrove – James Read

three amazing talent… compare vs. the newbie recasts and brought back from the dead characters…

it’s a glaring in your face mishap

these three magnified… stirred… whetted… capitalized on their worth… carried this show… and shared their presence

I’m going to miss the intelligent fun enigmatic stirring caught my imagination tune IN

I’m certain… KEN CORDAY… “knows” what he’s done to… the ruination of integral characters… to fill his purse strings… and vilify his own family history

he knows

The only way to salvage this 50 year brand is for Sony to buy out Ken Corday. NBC has been cool at best promoting the show, and they are a very gay friendly company that will not want to be associated with a blatantly homophobic show. (Yes, there was lots of death, but Will’s was unnecessary, cruel, shot with the assumption the audience wanted to see him suffer, Sonny sat in the second row, Will was weak and didn’t fight back, Sonny abandoned Arianna…the homophobic beats went on and on…)

Days could have easily survived cancelation by marketing itself to a streaming service, but they not only disrespected and alienated the gay and ally fans but also other passionate online fanbases like Haiden and Ericole. They committed suicide with their hatred. There’s no saving this show.

Ken Corday is an ignorant, hateful bully who cares nothing abou tthe fans of the show. He has contempt for them.

Honestly, the writing for the end of Will was so blatantly homophobic, I think Dylan Patton is too good for the role, let alone Guy Wilson or Chandler Massey. Why would any actor join this show to play any character, when you see how a new writing regime can turn on you and your fans with maximum hatred and malice. Ken Corday is the hateful bully in chief, and yes, the only way to save this show is if Sony buys him out.

Cordy, Higley and Griffith need to be gone before I would ever trust this show again to portray a gay family. These are people who had their gay legacy character choked to death on the anniversary of Mathew Shepherd’s death, had his corpse desecrated, showed the death over and over again, then had Will’s husband abandon their daughter and stand on his grave while setting up a future date with his ex. They are either stupid or they planned all that disrespect.

In fact, all three of those hateful bully would have to be gone before I would ever trust this show to write any character that I cared about.

One thing I am certain of, Days will not be getting a GLAAD award this year.

OMG how many times can I like these comments???? BUY OUT KEN CORDAY!!! It is time for him to go!!!!

they are going to bring on a lesbian couple to replace Will and Sonny. Think the murder will be Victor with Philip the murderer.

Will and Sonny, both legacy characters, cannot be replaced by token gays or lesbians.

Probably Paul. They got one gay character left so, hey, why not kill him, too?

I saw a preview of Jennifer being in a car accident!

Since it’s supposed to be Erik that hits Daniel while drunk maybe Jennifer is in Erik’s passenger seat. Since Greg Vaughn will be on the show until late Spring I’m wondering if someone else will be blamed. Jennifer?

SHOWED JENNIFER IN THE DRIVERS SEAT

Dang, take a Midol there Brenda.

Jennifer getting killed? I don’t think so. I think they have plans for this actress to stay in the Horton house for many years to come.

Get rid of John and Phillip. They are so boring! This memory loss thing with Chad is getting very old and boring! Put Chad and Abbie together! They always need a little action or murder to keep things interesting but keep it real. Remember the audience is not a bunch of morons. Maybe they will kill off Marlena. She has been on the show a long time. The new Ciarra is terrible, as well as most of the teenagers.

stefeno

I personally think Stephano will be killed because he has REAL health issues. I hate to see him go .

I say Victor is murdered by his brother with Phillips help.

who’s Victor’s brother ?

i’ve heard his name mentioned… with regard to Xander… this is when Vincent Irizarry’ Deimos will premiere

hopefully… with Xander… as his son… who returns… and the rest is history

Corday=said Cold Blood Murder=sounds like witnesses? Of course great way for Stefano to go=so we know the Phoenix won’t rise=We all know about New Years Eve &the fatal car crush =What a horribly sad way to end the year 🙁 I agree give us the Old
Days=family & love stories 🙂

I don’t care…I just can’t wait to see Drake’s storyline start up! The John and Ed scenes are extraordinary and leave me wanting more! Fabulous actors!

Victor….. Phillip will murder Victor to gain complete control over Titan and to be able to market the drug.

They need to get rid of Kate, she has slept with all the men and their sons. She needs to start acting her age. Theresa had her summed up as to how she dresses!

Kate is long overdue to leave the show!

I think Jennifer will hit Daniel with her car on NYE. She will be unconscious and see Jack. Victor will die from a heart attack. I’m hoping Andre.

I want Jennifer gone for so many reasons!

it’s just amazing that TPTB do not see… how this dimwit… is helming the Horton Clan

kill her off !

JJ and Abs… will survive ! Casy Moss and Kate Mansi are far and away, leading on their own, Melissa Reeves character is DOA… clingy; stuck; deer in headlights

TPTB need to bring back JJ and Abs grandmother… in the advent and death knell of Melissa Reeves

she runs over Daniel; and is badly injured; comatose; and gives up… upon seeing Jack ; for his 5 day stint

THE END

That could work for me, too

I think Melissa Reeves has also signed a new long term contract. Believe or not, there are a lot of fans who love her in the role of Jennifer Horton.

I want to watch, but not a fan of the murders. Have not watched them, and will wait until these murders are over. Hopefully, once these are past, the story lines can move forward with more love and romance. Enough with the murders. We see enough of that of the news!

Matthew Ashford and Melissa Reeves Talk Return to DAYS for Doug’s Funeral, Susan Seaforth Hayes, and Their Enduring Friendship

Last week, Days of our Lives celebrated the taping of their 15,000th episode which is tentatively scheduled to air on December 3rd. The story will feature emotional and heart-tugging scenes of Doug Williams funeral and honor his portrayer, the beloved Bill Hayes, who passed away on January 12th at the age of 98.

While the actors, producers, and crew took a lunch time break to pose for some pictures and speak with the press, they knew they would have to get back to taping the funeral, which was going to make it a tough day, but also cathartic for all who loved Bill Hayes.

Several returns have thus far been announced including; Melissa Reeves reprising her signature role of Jennifer Horton (a part she first played in 1985), and Matthew Ashford as Jack Deveraux. Reeves had last appeared on the show back in 2021, and she was replaced by Emmy-winner Cady McClain in her absence when Jennifer was in storylines. In real-life, Melissa had moved full-time to Tennessee along with her husband, Scott Reeves (ex-DAYS, GH, Y&R). Now, and as previously reported, Reeves will first appear back on DAYS for the Thanksgiving episodes with the Hortons.

Michael Fairman TV caught up with Matt and Melissa during the 15,000th episode celebration to get their take on: being back for these special episodes, how it has been working with and watching Susan Seaforth Hayes portray Julie’s grief over losing Doug, and how they have supported each other through the years. Check out what they shared below.

Melissa, you are back on the set of Days of our Lives for this very emotional and special moment in the series history. How does it feel?

MELISSA: Oh, my goodness. I am honored. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else but to be here for Bill. He was like my real-life dance partner. He taught me how to ballroom dance. And to be here for Susan, of course, who’s just been our sweet hero this whole week. We’re just following her lead. She’s just been this incredibly strong example for us in the midst of this trial and season of her life. She is like just lifting us all up with her. It’s been incredible.

I was at Bill Hayes memorial service which was truly incredible and I know at the time you were in Tennessee. It was moving and celebratory of his life, all at the same time.

MELISSA: That’s all I have heard. I have to watch it on You Tube. They said it was just a real celebration of his life and I love that.

Photo: JPI

This must be difficult for Susan Seaforth Hayes depicting the death of Doug, when she is still grieving the loss of her beloved husband. (Susan pictured above with the returning Stephen Schnetzer who plays her on-screen brother, Steve Olson).

MELISSA: I’m sure Susan has those moments at home by herself, but she’s so good at being a leader and leading all of us. We’re following her, you know, and she’s like, “This is how I want to feel today.” And we’re just going along with her, you know? It’s so sweet.

Photo: JPI

How is it to see Matt Ashford again live and in-person?

MELISSA: You know, Matt and I can go years without talking, or seeing each other, and then the minute we see each other we’re chatting away.

MATT: Melissa was out on set doing a scene yesterday on the phone talking to a stage manager; as she was telling some really tough news on the phone. I’m like crying in the background, literally, I’m off-stage crying.

MELISSA: And then we get like back into normal life, and we’re like, okay, “What’s happening? What’s happening with this … or what’s happening with that?”

I had read, Melissa, that you were in touch with Matt about if there night be a possibility for you to reprise your role as Jennifer for these special episodes?

MELISSA: Yes. Well, Matt was like, “Hey! Would you want to come back? “And I was like, “Matt, you know, I would always come back. ”

MATT:  Every time I come here to Days of our Lives, they ask, “Where’s Missy? How’s Missy?” Everybody backstage says, “I miss her.” All of the crew is asking about her and saying, “It would be nice to see Missy. Nothing wrong with you Matt, but …”  They said, “Where is she?” I said, “She wants to come!”

Photo: JPI

There are some beautiful photos of Missy and Bill and Susan thorough the years that I found. It just reminded me of just the deep and entrenched history we all have had with the show, personally and professionally.

MATT: Missy is roughly the age where Francis Reid (ex-Alice Horton) was when she started the show, which is just crazy.

Photo: JPI

I’ve always said Missy was going to be the next generation Alice. Do you feel that Jennifer is the heir apparent matriarch of the Horton family?

MELISSA: Yes. I mean, this has been greatest blessing of my life, and that would be great. I told Ken Corday (executive producer, Days of our Lives) when I was 17 that this show would be my life. Ken always told me, “This is your home,” and I’ve always felt like that.

How have gotten through the scenes watching Susan Seaforth Hayes as Julie go through the loss of Doug?

MATT: Susan is bringing her best performance life for her and Bill. I mean, she’s a showbiz baby. She always has been one hundred percent, and she’s doing it for him, and this is who they’ve always been. So, you’re seeing this amazing performance colored by her life. She has her private life as Susan, but she has enough plugged into Julie that she’s done amazing work. The director, producers and writers are giving her room to live in these moments and it’s quite wonderful.

Photo: JPI

Have you already broken down in tears during the taping?

MELISSA: Yesterday, but today’s taping of the actual funeral I think they want us to try and be just more celebratory.

MATT: I mean, it is a beautiful long life for Bill Hayes and his character of Doug Williams, and so it will be about that. Then, you get a bunch of us together in the church pews, and there’s going to be hijinks.

MELISSA: We all have been through the waves of grief. You have that awful cry and then all of a sudden you feel okay.  There are those family situations we are portraying where you’re like, “What do we do? What do we do now? You know, no one knows what to do. But, it’s so sweet. I’m looking forward to seeing how the scenes all turn out.

So, are you glad that Matt and Melissa are back for the 15K episode and Doug’s funeral? From what we can tell, it’s going to be quite an emotional journey for Days of our Lives fans, and especially the performance of Susan Seaforth Hayes,

Ron Carlivati Talks on Decision to Make Days of our Lives 15000th Episode About Doug’s Funeral, and Previews Chances for WGA Award

This week, Days of our Lives celebrated the taping of their 15,000th episode. In of it itself, that is an incredible accomplishment for the long-running soap opera currently streaming on Peacock.

However, this on set gathering was a bit different. Though the show is celebrating their achievement, they are also in the middle of taping scenes surrounding the death and the funeral of Doug Williams, played by the late Bill Hayes, who passed away on January 12th of this year at the age of 98.

As previously revealed many longtime favorites are back to honor Bill and the character of Doug including: Gloria Loring (Liz), Melissa Reeves (Jennifer), Matthew Ashford (Jack), Maree Cheatham (Marie), Victoria Konefal (Ciara) and Stephen Schnetzer (Steve) to name but a few.

Michael Fairman TV was in attendance and spoke with Days of our Lives head writer, Ron Carlivati to gain some insight into how the 15,000 episode was crafted and the decision to honor the character of Doug Williams and Bill Hayes as its epicenter. In addition, Ron weighed-in on this Sunday’s April 14th WGA (Writers Guild of America) Awards, where he and his writing team are facing off with General Hospital for the daytime drama prize. Here’s what Ron shared below.

Was this your idea to make the 15,000th episode centered around Doug’s funeral and passing?

RON: It was. When you’re looking at it, and laying out the calendar for the whole year and you see 15,000 is coming up, we’re like, “What are we going to do?” And then, we got the news that Bill had passed away and something kind of clicked. I was like, “We should honor Doug on that show.” So then, we started to kind of build around that … when does he pass away? How does he pass away? Who could come back? You know, it’s a lot.  I’m very pleased with the returns that we got as there’s so much that you could do. We wanted everybody we could get. So, we put together a wish list and Janet Drucker (co-executive producer, Days of our Lives) made it happen.

Photo: JPI

You have Melissa Reeves back as Jennifer, when the role was last played by Cady McClain. What has it meant to have Missy back for these shows?

RON: It was so nice to see Missy Reeves. I think Cady has done such a good job, but on the 15,000th episode to see Missy as Jennifer, it’s a big deal. So having her was great, and overall, the milestone was a big undertaking, because you want to live up to it. You want the 15,000th episode to be good. Now, it has a lot of real emotion that you’re playing. because for the cast and the crew they’re honoring Bill Hayes just as much as we’re honoring Doug Williams.

Photo: JPI

Was it hard for you and the team to write this episode?

RON: Yes. I’ll tell you why it was hard to write.  When I wrote, for example, Asa’s (Phillip Carey) death on One Life to Live or Victor’s (John Aniston) on DAYS, Asa is a different type of character. Like, you could have characters going, “Oh! I’m glad he is dead.” You could have different points of view, but with Doug, you’re not having that. Every person loves this man. No one had a bad relationship with him. So, you’re challenge as a writer is how do you make it that not everybody’s saying the same thing and doing the same thing. And so, we tried to find ways to make the episode about all the familial relationships and yet, how do you make it about Doug and yet broaden the scope.

Photo: JPI

I had spoken to Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie), a week after Bill’s memorial, for an interview. She said that she felt very fortunate that you did include her on discussions of how you would tackle Doug’s passing. How did that conversation go?

RON: First, I attended Bill’s funeral, which was incredible. I said to so many people it was an emotional service, but it was hard to be sad at this. The guy had an incredible life and it was an incredible celebration. And so, you’re sitting there watching this knowing that you now have to write something similar. And how do you write something that lives up to what you just witnessed? I wanted to talk to Susan to get her thoughts about, you know, how much do you want this to be about keeping Bill separate from Doug. How comfortable are you sharing your grief. She was incredible to talk to. It was a great chat.

You’re in the middle of taping these major scenes for the 15,000 episode to air in December. How do you think it’s going? Have you seen any of the scenes?

RON:  I haven’t seeing anything. I mean, we were still making changes to the script up till this morning!

Photo: JPI

The Writers Guild Awards are this Sunday, April 14th and once again this year there are two daytime drama nominees, General Hospital and Days of our Lives. How are you feeling about your chances this year?

RON: It is often just GH and us in the category. I’ve won three years in a row, so I’m kind of feeling like it’s their turn.

Photo: JPI

What episodes did you submit for contention? If I recall, they had to do with Victor’s memorial.

RON: The episodes we submitted were centered around Victor’s funeral. I think one has story with Vivian (Louise Sorel). We had some fun stuff, we had some emotional stuff at Victor’s death, and I am pretty sure that our submission was three episodes right around that time.

Did you make the decision to go with those episodes because there was a mix of humor and drama?

RON: I like to have some humor, but it was also the funeral, then there’s Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) giving birth, and then Vivian’s crashing the reading of the will. So, we had a lot of fun and it’s hard sometimes to pick three that tell a story, as opposed to submitting for the Daytime Emmys, where the writing team only submits two shows. So, we shall see how it goes on Sunday.
