Days of our Lives Renewed For Another Year By NBC!

The soap opera that has been on fire of late, Days of our Lives, received some great news with the announcement today of their renewal pick-up for another year from NBC!

That means DAYS will live on for its 54th season, and this pick-up ensures the series will be on the air until at least the fall of 2019!

Under head writer Ron Carlivati, exciting stories have upped the ratings, and made the daytime drama must-see TV.

Today’s announcement is also very welcome news for DAYS’ die-hard, loyal fans! In a statement, DAYS EP, Ken Corday expressed: “We’re thrilled that the sands will continue flowing through the hourglass for yet another year. We are most grateful to NBC and Sony for their continued support of Days of Our Lives. Buckle up, because we have some exciting and compelling new stories coming to Salem this season.”

Bruce Evans, NBC’s executive vice president, current programming in charge of DAYS related: “We’re very excited about having more great Days in Salem. Ken Corday and his team continue to tell stories with which the Days loyal audience feels a deep connection. We congratulate them on their remarkable daytime legacy and look forward to what they have planned for the new season.”

Congratulations to the cast, crew, behind the scenes personnel, and creatives who make Salem that wonderful place where we can see family drama, heartbreak, humor, love, romance, mystery, enduring characters, and exciting new ones, that have kept us tuning-in for decades.  DAYS made its debut in 1965.

They can be renewed another year doesnt exactly mean anything…they still can cancel the series…they had done that with prime time shows….of course they might have to pay something…but hopefully they wont and keep the show on…Days is my favorite soap at the moment

Oh pshaw

That’s at least another 18 months of DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Woo hoo!

Whatever happened to the renewal requirement a few years back that the filming move closer to the broadcast date?

While that definitely makes more sense, logistically, it would be hard to do. The whole cast and crew would have to be laid off for 4 months. Or, a gradual schedule of filming fewer episodes for 6 months to a year which would not be budget friendly.

That was never a requirement for renewal. What NBC stated was that they wish DAYS would shorten it’s tape to air schedule. What NBC neglected to say was DAYS can shorten it if NBC gave more money.

??? wasn’t even thinking about .. well… truly… about renewal… I’m always thinking we have until late 2018… add another year

that’s roughly 19 MORE MONTHS… sounds longer, right ?

Salute : “Thank You NBC / SONY !!!! ”

I LOVE this SHOW so much

Celebrate
Happy Dance
Cheer

Great news! I wish that DOOL would get longer extension, but I will take another year. The one wish is to have more sets. I would rather see a smaller cast and see the actors in their own homes. It is sad that too many conversations happen in the park or Horton Square. Let’s see Steve and Kayla’s house again. Let’s see the apartment where Ben lived.

Thrilled to know I can visit Salem at least until Fall 2019! The show is in a good place. I, too, wish they didn’t tape so far ahead. It hurts the show creatively, but I know it is cost effective. Unfortunately, right now, $$ wins.

DAYS has earned it’s renewal. They got the best writing team on the block and the cast has stepped up to the task. There are a few bad cast members but overall — way up to the top –. Glad I get another year of Ron and his writing teams work.

Best show ever.I never miss an episode. How can I?With all of the stuff going on with Abby-Gabby makes for a very interesting Story. I know all about mental illness.believe me it isn’t easy living with it.Now for Brady I use to like him now I cannot stomach the guy .Although I have this sneaky feeling that Eve is onto him Keep up the great work you are doing for Days.I will be watching you.Hey I even got my friend interested now she loves the Abby-Gabby story.

I keep going back and forth…. is that a tell tale sign of good writing

she knows… she doesn’t . to me it looks like he’s falling for her.

I thought it telling… when his son… showed Brady … a valentines card for him and Mommy…. Theresa !!!! as Eve looked on. AND Brady may be overlooking his texts from grand dad Victor. and hopefully just acting out “overheard” conversations

DANG doesn’t Kassie DePaiva LOOK SO GOOD.

if there is ONE character – I am anxiously waiting – for their own Story… BECAUSE she deserves an EMMY.

Kassie DePaiva as Eve Donovan. LOVE HER TO BITS

Eric Martsolf as Brady I think is reveling in his new direction with incredible scripts. YES he’s definitely turned for the worse. as long as he does not … hurt Eve. which in all likelihood a probability.

YOU KNOW.. talk about couples brimming with possibilities potential and just a surefire dream of everything serial. LOVE watching these two date. talk about LOVE SEX and BELONG.

I WANT to see Eve FIGHTING for every thing she wants. AND reign as she always should… on top

PS: Marci Miller… has run the gamut from homely, bohemian, Cheryl Tiegs, to Gabs, to HOT.

LOL.. I watched yesterday show.. as she emerged dripping in red w/black hair.. LOOKING STUNNING

what can one say more ? Abigail Horton Devereaux DiMera.

her poised natural take after take… I have no complaints and only want her to be a shoe in for Best Lead Actress as a newbie. she has to make the top 5 .

Love her more than the other abigail I’m glad they are giving her better story

Marci Miller has been wonderful to watch. I liked her even before she had the opportunity to show off all these different sides to her personality/acting skills! I venture to say she’s doing as good a job as Erika Slezak ever did on OLTL. (truth be told I thought Erika was sometimes way over the top and a tad corny.)

But I have to disagree with you on the “homely” bit. In my opinion she’s flawless. Even in her pale, natural state she kinda illuminates, radiates flawless skin, beautiful eyes…She’s more “dynamic” when she puts on bolder colors, wardrobe, makeup…but to me that only accentuates her beauty.

And then there’s Gabby and Ciara. Both gorgeous, too.

Loving Kassie as Eve. It’s so amazing how I don’t see Blair when I look at her; only Eve (which of course is the way it should be). Same with Tyler as Stefan O. Even though his character is very similar to Nicolas I see Stefan. Ahhhh..the power of imagination and the ability to suspend disbelief.

Yes to Cheryl Tiegs. Marci bares an incredible resemblance to Cheryl’s younger modeling days.

Great news!

Great news! I wish they renewed for at least the next two years. Back in the day you never even thought of cancellation; you just expected these “worlds” to be there always…

I”M so glad there were no threads of “anticipation” . I forgot… whew! I had every reason to expect as much… Thanks to Ron Carlivati and HIS TEAM.

18 – 19 months.. here we come

Great news and well deserved! The ratings for Days have surged lately and the show is on fire. Days really is the best soap on and has been since Ron C’s stories started last summer.

I’m not surprised by this news because I love everything they’ve been doing on the show. Only thing i wish for is for the show to be less far ahead in the production schedule. Never understood what the deal was being 6 months ahead in production.

Thank you Ron carlivati!

Hopefully, NBC will give more money to DAYS once that horrible Megyn Kelley is cancelled. What a waste of so much money for a dud show. How does the Peacock network not understand that we dont want hours and hours of boring talk shows. We want our soaps to remain. Hell, bring on another 30 minute soap like Bold and Beaut…i’m sure people would show an interest….

I forgot Megyn Kelly has a talk show. Stupid of NBC to give a talk show that both liberals and conservatives can’t stand. You are correct, they have too many talk shows, and most don’t last more than a season.

Yay!!!! I do wish they’d renew for 2 years, but 1 is still great!

YAY!!!!

Love this news! Daytime drama is a wonderful valid genre. Really, without what would daytime TV be? Too much talk, courtroom, news, and trash already. Why not solid dramatic programming in daytime?

Maybe NBC can see value in Ron C and launch a new show, even a pair of half hours with online connections? Develop THE BAY or one of the other successful efforts.

Now if nbc would only pour $$$ into modernized sets and advertisements !.. Days fans are a 50 + year loyal audience but have to suffer through recycled office and park bench scenes but yet nbc has $$ for crap like the megan kelly hour?.. Shame on nbc

Soaps are astronomical to produce which is why most of them are off the air. They have no budget to modernize sets; would rather they focus on being able to afford to keep it going.

NBC does not own the show. It negotiates a fee to broadcast the show from Sony and Corday. It’s up to them (not NBC) to determine how the budget is spent. They can try to negotiate a higher fee from NBC, but that’s highly unlikely.

The only current soap owned by a network is GH.

Agree that hopefully the better ratings and the renewal will bring on better sets. NBC should be cutting Megyn Kelly, they were so stupid to bring on someone that no one can stand.

I’m not that surprised by this news because i think it would have leaked if NBC was even considering cancelling Days. However even though NBC just renewed Days for more year there could be something in the renewal that says they could renew it for a second year come next year like i think they did the last time they renewed Days.

Good news for Days and its fans!

I love it.I just wonder how many more personalities Abby is going to have.Did I hear that right she said that Abby killed Andre? Also I just loved what Eve did to Brady. Can’t wait to see Mondays show.To bad Brady you lost

Great news , congratulations to the cast and crew!!!
Now hopefully we can see some of the other sets ???
Hopes house; Steve and Kaylas house, The Spectator offices ;
Can some of the characters eat at a table at home??
Enough use of the Horton Town Square; the Police Station, and that park bench,,!

what also happened was Megan Kelly failed on NBC.
But I think Days Carlivati has to answer to his poor taste in using john’s pathetic reasoning regarding poisoning Steve as we currently keep reading in the news how putin kills agents using poison. I think the bad taste of this writer needs to be acknowledged and he must issue apologies. At the very least John should not be held by other characters as having done the right thing but instead held accountable for his failure to trust and warn his partner Steve and that he did the wrong thing.

Days Of Our Lives

Stephen Schnetzer Talks On His Return to Days of our Lives and Working with Susan Seaforth Hayes In Emotional Episodes

Who says you can’t go home again? In the case of Another World favorite, Stephen Schnetzer (ex-Cass Winthrop), he has proven that it is true, and you can go back to your soap roots and where it all started for you.

Last week on April 11th, Schnetzer, along with several other key returns were on set at Days of our Lives taping all-new episodes of the Peacock streaming soap opera, centering on the funeral of Doug Williams (the late Bill Hayes), and as part of the iconic soap opera’s 15,000th episode.

Stephen is reprising his first daytime role as Steve Olson, the brother of Julie Williams (Susan Seaforth Hayes). The last time Schnetzer appeared on a DAYS set was during his one and only run on the show from 1978 to 1980. Clearly, viewers will be in for some very emotional scenes when Steve returns to Salem to be there for his sister, Julie in her time of need. In real-life, Susan has been going through her own grief, having just lost Bill back on January 12th at the age of 98.

Photo: NBC

Michael Fairman TV caught up with Stephen during the 15K episode celebration ceremony, and during a break from taping the gut-wrenching funeral scenes, to get his thoughts on being part of these highly-anticipated moments that will air later this year in December. Here’s what he shared with us below.

What has this been like for you to work with Susan Seaforth Hayes after all of these years?

STEPHEN: She’s a dream and she’s so bright. We ran lines yesterday and we ended up just visiting for about 45 minutes and just catching up and telling tales about each other’s career. She even dropped off the autobiography that she and Bill did. And being back here at DAYS, every time I turn a corner, there’s another familiar face. When I was on the show 40 more years ago, a bunch of the guys, played softball on a team together. This is really a trip down memory lane as I knew it would be.

Photo: JPI

Taping Doug’s funeral must be a hard day for Susan. Are you checking in with her to help hold her up through this?

STEPHEN: I am and I’m checking in with Amy Shaughnessy (Susan’s assistant), and she’s holding her up more than anybody. We’re there for each other.

There will obviously be some major hankie-inducing moments when Steve comes back to Salem to console his sister.

STEPHEN: Oh, wait till you see it in December. It’s going to be great.

Were you surprised you got this call to come back to the show decades later?

STEPHEN: It was out of the blue! I was completely surprised. They should have called me decades ago! That’s what surprised me. When Another World went down, I thought I’d land somewhere else and it never happened. That was more of a surprise.

Photo: JPI

Cass is such an identifiable character for you. As well, you and Linda Dano (ex-Felicia Gallant) are so synonymous together as best friends Cass and Felicia from Another World. When fans heard you were reprising your role as Steve Olson on DAYS, they are now hoping there will be more of you on the show to come.

STEPHEN: Steven Olson is a real “Cassian “character. I cut my teeth on Steve Olson and that’s how Cass was introduced. He was kind of a roguish charmer. And then when the character stuck for Another World, they rehabilitated me, and turned me into one of the shows heroes. And that’s what would’ve happened if I stayed as Steve Olson probably. So, Steve is the ‘pre-Cass’, Cass.

Photo: JPI

As the story goes, you originally decided to leave Days of our Lives?

STEPHEN: I was never on contract. I was doing a day and a half a week and I got a Broadway play directed by Franco Zeffirelli starring Joan Plowright and Frank Finlay. I was able to it as I didn’t have to break a contract or anything. I cut loose and went back to New York for that.

How well did you get to know Bill Hayes during your first time around on DAYS?

STEPHEN: My first episode was with Bill and Susan, as her long lost brother coming into Salem. They were so good to me. They were so kind. I had been doing eight years of classical repertory theater, never been in front of a camera. I tell everybody, it took me longer than any other actor I’ve ever seen to get comfortable in front of a camera. And they were very supportive at that time in my career. Coming back to honor Bill now in 2024, and to be see Susan, I am just so happy to be here.

Looking forward to seeing the scenes between Stephen and Susan Seaforth Hayes come December and Doug’s funeral and surrounding episodes? Do you hope that DAYS might bring the character of Steve Olson back for a longer stay? Comment below.
