With their #50Scoops50Days on what’s to come on this fall on many of this season’s primetime and daytime series, EW.com has officially confirmed the beginning of the transformation in Salem that will lead viewers into the series 50th anniversary season and beyond on NBC’s Days of our Lives!

As previously reported, so many long time notables are back in action and will be seen on the canvas this fall including: Stephen Nichols (Patch), Alison Sweeney (Sami), Peter Reckell (Bo), Thaoo Penghlis (Andre), Martha Madison (Belle), Tamara Braun (Ava), and Camila Banus (Gabi).

The new writing regime of Dena Higley and Josh Griffith will finally begin to have their episodes airing later this month, and things get off to a real kick-start as a murder mystery envelops Salem which according to EW has: “Several of Salem’s residents — and perhaps even some of the town’s former, fan-favorite residents — meeting their demise.”

In addition, circle DAYS 50th anniversary (wk of November 8th) where the story will culminate with a major reveal that will go down and a killer twist, as promised by NBC execs.

So who do you think is going to meet their maker?  Who do you think could be the culprit?  Are you looking forward to DAYS big push into the fall and into 2016?  Share your thoughts and theories below!

I am so looking forward to the long list returning veterans, and more intriguing story-lines. I really wish Eileen Davidson could return as Susan Banks and another character, she is award-winning, and so much part of DAYS history and canvas. I hope CBS can share her for a bit, so she can be part of the 50th in some way. I can’t wait for the action to happen this month, and the wk of November 8th, is marked in my calendar. We have A. Martinez joining, along with the veterans, I wonder if Frankie and Jack will be part of the surprises to come. What else? Who else do we want to see return? I’m SO Excited for DAYS OF OUR LIVES, they are stepping up. Oh, DAYS, secure Michael Easton, pair him up with Eve, please!!!

I hope for two things. Even tho I’m a senior, I hope Days doesn’t turn into an ‘old folks at home’ show. Also, what will they do with the gay characters. I hope they don’t put them on a back burner, or get rid of them. They are important to the show as well.

I hear what you’re saying, Wayne. I believe the show will have a great balance in all ages represented in Salem. As for the Sonny, Will, Paul and Derrick, I’m sure something will obviously happen to Sonny as Freddie Smith is out as Sonny, either the show will have Sonny exit for a bit and re-enter with a new actor in the role, kill Sonny off, or maybe, Sonny will land in a coma as the hands of the Salem murderer. I think it will be important to also see the focus turn to what happens with Will and Paul, and Derrick, perhaps Derrick really does have ties to Salem, who knows what this kid’s real story is. Point is, I am sure the guys, will remain in story, and continue to be very relevant moving into the fall and winter. I have faith in DAYS, that great changes are on the way!

I am SO happy to see another senior that enjoys the gay story lines. It’s LIFE. SO any people are condemning DOOL for running it but I think it just makes it more realistic. That’s how life is! Cudos to you!

I love the gay storyline. It’s why I watch. I just wish they hadn’t booted Freddie Smith. Only he is Sonny. I wasn’t as familiar with Chan as Will so don’t miss him as I would Sonny. Days shot themselves in the foot when they let him go. I may not watch anymore after he’s gone. And now that they’ve turned Will into Sami Jr. only Freddie is keeping me anyhow! Gay characters never have happily ever afters, remember.

I too hope they continue to involve and evolve the gay characters. I suspect that maybe Sonny will find out that Will manipulated the situation between Paul and Derrick. Once Sonny realizes that Will is capable of something like that, it may result in his departure from Salem. Sonny could return at a later date as played by another actor….we will just have to wait and see. Someone told me that in the recent fist fight that occurred in the Bar where Sonny, Will, Derrick and Paul were “hanging out” that even that was arranged by Will, but either I missed that scene or they are mistaken.
Does anyone know for certain, was the “fight scene” where the four were picked on and called unsavory names, was that also arranged by Will or was that just a physical altercation that Will used to his advantage?

Wayne I hope they find a way to keep the gay story line while doing what no other soap does- have a lesbian story line at the same time. I think Stephanie Johnson should return with the news she realized she is in love with a woman! Or Belle!

I’m sorry, but I can’t agree. I think Days went way too far at times with the relationship between Will and Paul. I honestly do not believe that day time soaps are the proper place for R rated scenes of any kind. Days has been around for a very long time, and I believe the show was better written in the earlier years when the show did not rely on what amounts to soft pornography in an attempt to draw in younger audiences. That tactic is tacky and lazy. Write some solid stories with solid characters that people can care about, and you will not want for an audience. Follow the example of the wonderful long-running British soap, “Eastenders”, which has a very loyal following not only in England, but in the United States as well.

Clyde…..double-teamed by Vicfano!

Because there will be several murders, I think Clyde will be a victim of the actual serial killer.

THIS IS SO GREAT,I CAN NOT WAIT.LOL LOVE DAYS I HAVE BEEN WATCHING FOR YEARS.

Yes to that one! So don’t like that old country fake charm that’s so obvious. Time to kill him off so Victor and Stephano can step back into place!

Dr. Dan cause I heard he was leaving.. I hope I am wrong cause I love seeing Dr. Dan

one whom die it has bad guy on show

Exactly!

ughh!!
another silly murder mystery!?
i just want love , conflict and emotional stories! not one big boring who dunnit! this is supposed to celebrate days big 50?!
i want to see frankie back in the middle of jenn and eve, if not cute warlock then at least jack !

It’s not a regular who dunnit. There will be several victims…a good way to clean house! Plus, the killer storyline is slated to only last a couple months. Get ready to pop some popcorn!

yeah, it will only last until the reveal being the week of November 9th. I can’t wait, like you said, 4ever DAYS… great opportunity to clean house. though, I’ve heard some comments saying Aiden may be a victim!!!! oh no! I love him. his scenes with Hope on Fridays’ episode were so romantic. anyways, at least the who dunnit won’t take over a year for the reveal unlike GH and their notoriously long reveals, with DAYs, it will be a few months only.

Yes, I believe Aiden will be a victim. He is digging hard into Clyde’s background and I think he will find something appalling and get taken out. Also, didn’t they say there were rumors that the actor was on his way out?

Yes! Bring Frankie back! And no one will be dead. Will be like that stupid murder/island story years ago. Ugh

i think the storyline will have Aiden murdered / kidnapped and Bo coming back to Salem PD .
Somehow Andre will discover an Aiden/ Stephano connection so Andre will be the villain.
Patch will come back just in time to ask Kayla for a divorce because he has fallen I love with someone else( maybe another DiMeria woman? …Kristen ? Plastic surgery? )
Sami returns to make sure her children gets their Share of the DiMeria fortune but is held against her will because she knows a BIG secret that EJ left in a letter the she recently received!
Belle will return with Ava (who is a young woman now) looking for Shawn D. But finds he has been working undercover with his dad and got in over his head which puts her and Ava in grave danger!
While GABI was in jail she talked to a fellow inmate and finds out she(the inmate )was born in Salem and put up for adoption ! Who are her parents???

Shawn and Belle’s daughter’s name is Claire. Ava is Steve’s ex girlfriend.

It’s been reported that when Patch comes back he wants Kayla back…so he’s not going to be wanting a divorce.

I can’t see Sammi coming back without Ej. Please….please try to get him back.

James Scott wants NO part of returning to play EJ.

E J is not coming back, he said in an interview he despises soaps, he thinks they are a joke. So, in short fat chance in you know where that he will come back. I will not watch his new show and hope it flops, after we viewers got him to where he is today, Thanks for nothing dweeb

Are you serious–he said that about soaps? Don’t burn your bridges James!

i would love to see Ej and sammi back too

Careful for what you wish for, Diana. EJ could be the killer!

I am so ready to see what Dena & Josh have in store for us!!

I think they’ll make a great team!!

I think the serial killer’s victims will be Daniel, Eve and Aiden.

There’s been talk of 8 characters being offed…Eight bells toll and all is well.

I think that JJ and Ben will be killed.

i honestly think that Paige will be one to get killed cuz they said she was leaving, as for the others who knows but im thinking Clyde or Ben may be the killer???

Come on all the clues lead to Ben, jealousy, watching and spying on Abigail every step of the way, plus the fact that Ben probably found out that his father switched the paternity test. So he kills his father next. Of course the last person that he will be after will be Abigail herself. He despises all women including Abigail now. That is how I think the storyline will go but I could be wrong.

Lady Truth, If you would have added a fourth victim’s name and it started with a “D” such as Doug, you would have spelled out DEAD using the first letter of each name!

(D)aniel
(E)ve
(A)iden
(D)oug

I don’t see Eve being killed off. Kassie DePaiva is a gemstone to DAYS.

Jeremy,

She is great but what are they doing with her character … nothing. Her vendetta against Jennifer is going to consume her. Now it looks like she might buy out that guy that Jennifer is arguing with. They really need to turn this character around.

Adian is going to be killed by Clyde and Clyde will either be killed by hope or by Stefno’s men or go to jail

Clyde will be the serial killer that is killing everyone!

the new writing regime can’t come soon enough. the show has been so boring. this may be the excitement the show needs

If you were the writer, who would you kill?

I would kill Aiden, Clyde, Ben, Paige and 4 others who I should keep quiet about so as not to upset more people than I have already with the 4 I did name. lol

Kill off Clyde, Ben, Eve, Danial, Will, Paige, Chad, and Eric…and the killer is Derrick!!!

I met to say Aiden is the killer…he ties up Hope and Ciara and his own son…Aiden puts Hope, Ciara and his son in Hopes car and locks up the garage…Aiden gets in the car and turns it on…the car’s fumes fill up the garage…he is planning a murder/suicide…he is going to kill himself along with his son, Hope and Ciara…Hope starts screaming…Aiden turns on the car radio to drown out Hopes screams…the children are unconcious because Aiden drugged them…outside the garage Bo and Patch hear the music, the cars motor running and find the garage locked…the men realize Aiden is using the fumes to kill himself, Hope and the children…they break open the garage door but Aiden speeds off with his hostages…Patch is hit by the car as it takes off just as Kayla arrives…Bo tells Kayla what is happening…Kayla calls for help and takes care of the injured Patch…Meanwhile, Bo jumps on his motorcycle and is in hot pursuit of Aiden and his hostages(‘Im holding out for a hero’ plays in background)…an insane Aiden realizes Bo is following them…with a sinister gleam in his eyes, Aiden glances at the children in the back seat, then at Hope who is next to him, ominously saying, ‘If i cant have you, no one else can!’…Hope breaks free from the rope and grabs for the steering wheel…after several tense moments we hear Aiden shout out, ‘See you in Hell’…Hope’s eyes grow wide with fear…she screams…the children awaken and scream too…the car with all four occupants plunges into the icy Salem River! FRIDAYS CLIFFHANGER!…no, this wont happen but it wouldve been some suspenseful cliffhanger had it turned out that way..lol

I really don’t think it will be Dr Dan getting killed off…because he is still working and they are always filming about 5 month ahead. That takes us way past November. Serena maybe as she isn’t working anymore (but unlikely) Sonny I believe is already off the show as far as filming goes. hmmmm…. maybe Doug or even Andre (Tony) unsure how long his return is for . Either way, I hope CLYDE is among one of them and not the killer. Never know though.

Please kill off John I really don’t like him at all.

Not happening, thank goodness. He and Marlena will be on more in the future.

Maybe John will become more exciting as the killer, but hopefully his character will be repaired by the new writers!

no I dont want John to leave I love John part

i love john i hope he stays along time,

If the murderer uses a knife he or she can be referred to as Salem’s Sadistic Bicentennial butcher!

If the killer is Jack, he would be a Jack the Ripper!

If they all come back alive, I will be pissed!!!!!

I remember the salem stalker storyline maybe the killer will be Marlena I cant say this is only theory maybe they are making a second salem stalker storyline where victims acutally die this is only theory anyway, whatever storyline Dena and Josh write would excite us with the old characters and maybe they can get Kyle Brandt or Jay Kennteh Johson to play phillp Kirakis

Anythings possible! They have recast Philip with John-Paul Lavoisier, but that can change.

I am looking forward, the last few years have been the worst writing in my 29 years as a fan. I’m glad the are finally listening to their fans.

can’t wait!!!!!!

It’s going to be primetime excitement in the daytime, although I’ll be watching it in primetime!!!!!

im very excited to see some of the older ones returning, for instance Bo, I am hoping that hes coming back for his “Fancy Face” and Tony/ Andre. I hope they get rid of Clyde & Ben, they r both bad company, and id like to see Nichole FINALLY get her happily ever after w/ Dr. Dan. also, id like Melanie to come back and be reunited with Brady, I love this show, id be very disappointed if they took it off like some of the other shows I like to, thank u writers and all of you that make “Days” happen.

Maybe Paige will be murdered and become an angel who brings back her mother’s singing voice.

It stands to reason that this fall is undoubtedly do-or-die time for Days. The 50th anniversary is probably the last chance to boost ratings enough to save the show. Sony’s current contract with NBC for Days runs through September 2016 (when it’s guaranteed to stay on the airwaves until). But since the show tapes 4-6 months in advance (ridiculous in these times, even if it is cheaper, IMO), a decision as far as renewal/cancellation is going to have to be made probably by January or February, at the latest. It’s great that the new writers are bringing back lots of fan favorite actors/characters to celebrate the milestone, while acknowledging and trying to fix the many mistakes made by the previous regime. I just hope it’s not too late for the show. We shall see

Hey Chris, if in fact the renewal announcement does happen in Jan/Feb of 2016, I do see NBC renewing DAYS for an additional year. The ratings between August 2015 to December 2015, I’m sure will place DAYS in 3rd, and climb over GH. With that said, I could see the network giving DAYS an automatic one year renewal, with the possibility of an extension if they continue upward in viewership in 2016.

according to twitter, Aiden is the killer

I love Day’s of our Lives! We have watched since it started.
I bet Clyde gets killed. It will be Victor or Stephano.
Serena can go…her line is finished.
EJ is dead… I don’t see him coming back.
I still luv the series.

Could it be Andre DiMera so jealous and hurt by the people of Salem that he would return to kill? Would he go after Bo, Roman, John Black and Marlena. Would Andre have the nerve to go after Stefano in the end?
I’m just guessing. I love when Days Of Our Lives has a good whodunit murder story.
LOVING had the best whodunit murder story I have ever seen in soap opera television. Suspensful. Alfred Hitchcockian.

I agree wholeheartedly about LOVING having the best murder mystery. Plus the promos for it were downright creepy and very artistic unlike some of the crappy ones that CBS is running/has run for Y&R – like the upcoming “storm.” Give me a break!

I just have to agree about the LOVING murders, too. It was can’t-miss soap watching. And Christine Tudor’s final performances as Gwyneth were mesmerizing and heartbreaking. She should have taken an Emmy for them. And yes, Chrystie, the promo campaign was just as well thought out as the actual show. It was brilliant. Remember how the audience was invited to “Figure it out”?

sonniorsolita,

YES! You had me waxing nostalgic so I went and saw some clips on Youtube. Man how I miss that show! I had chills down my spine watching Gwyneth and Steffi’s scenes. Now THAT is truly great soap storytelling and riveting to watch. She definitely should have won an Emmy.

I also remember what a big crush I had on Michael Weatherly back then. He was one guy who actually looked better with glasses. 🙂

I also want to add that NBC needs to put Days of Our Lives on the “On Demand” cable system. It works for me on Time Warner Cable. I was able to the General Hospital episodes I missed of “Luke” leaving this way and now I am watching the GH episodes on real time.
People hate to miss their soap operas especially if they don’t have DVR.

I agree.

I apologize for the typo. I meant to say, I was able to see the General Hospital episodes I missed by watching On Demand on Time Warner Cable.

Days needs something to make it good. The whole Zander, Serena, Eric debacle was more than taxing on my nerves. I called that whole fiasco my daytime laxative. I was never more regular than when they tried to make me care about the diamonds in the elephant’s hidden place. I mean who dreamed that piece of garbage up? Nicole needs to find a man who isn’t whipped and easily influenced by others. Daniel is not a man. He is a wimp who can’t make a decision about anything. He was obviously the child in the sandbox who cried at everything. Eric was no better. Nicole needs a strong man. A real man. They have turned Will into a whiny baby. He used to be strong but now he is just manipulative and wimpy. He needs to be a victim of the Salem Bicentennial killer. Then get rid of Clyde, Justin and Ben. I don’t give a royal rat’s walenda about who the killer is just cleanse the horrible cast members. And do it quickly!

I have watched Days since I was a teen.that’s almost 40 yrs.I wish someone would hook up with Jennifer.Nicole needs a happy ending. And if there’s gonna b a big killing let me start with Clyde,Zander,Kate and especially Eve.Rafe was so happy when he was with Jordan, maybe he can get someone good, not Hope.I do like her.Bo and Fancyface! They we’re great together. Good luck writers! I can’t wait!!!!

I am hoping they kill off quite a few of the characters and then we find out in November they are all living on an island that looks just like Salam…. hmmmmmmm what a great idea….

That story line of Melaswen (New Salem backwards) had so many beloved main actors on Days of Our Lives pissed. I am sure Frances Reid did not like the way they were writing her out. Peter Reckell and Peggy McCay did some good acting together when she was killed. Maggie being killed got to me. Basically, the actors we loved were fired. But they did not know then they would be asked to return one year later. Basically, these actors were unemployed for many months. It was frustrating for the tv viewers too, especially if you don’t read Soap Opera Digest to know what may happen next.

I have looked forward to every day of DOOL from the day it started!! It has been the only soap I have watched for years!!! Looking forward to many more years as the show progresses. i love it and will continue to do so. Even tho i am disappointed sometimes, i usually come around. i just totally love Days!!! Just keep them coming!

Have a happy DOOL anniversary, Hazel!!!!!

I am 71 years old. Been watching this forever. Had my 1st son take his nap so that I could watch the half hour show which was really about 10 or 15 min. I love this show. Look forward to lots of old timers coming back.

They say the returnees aren’t necessarily safe either, Pat. Can you imagine someone like Don Craig finally showing up after 30 years and being murdered?????!!!!!

Would they dare kill off Marie Horton!?!

Maybe a returnee will be the killer!!!!!

Several returns…several deaths…lots of thrills!!!!!

The killer will be Caroline!!! she’s full of secrets! just kidding.

I love Days Thanh you to the writers and fans for watching I have watch 48 yrs

The new writing can’t start airing soon enough. This past week of “All Abigail all the time” was more than anyone should have to stomach. In a perfect story, both she & her mother would meet an agonizing end.

Classic soap and I love it!

This sounds promising, though I didn’t expect to read about a big serial killer murder mystery. I think we all can assume Aiden, Clyde and Dan are goners (as well they should be!) and I think Paige will be one of them also. But I’m wondering who of the returning will be killed off? I’m not liking the sound of that.

my thought is that somehow someway the investigation that Bo is on is connected with Clyde and that is why Bo is coming back. and with Aiden trying to do all these checks on Clyde I think he is going to figure it out and kill Aiden.so that takes care of one. I think some how Paige is going to get in the middle of a gun battle between Stepheno’s and Victor’s men and that is how her and Clyde are going to go.. or maybe she will just go off to college. i think Serena is going to do the thing she is best for.. RUNNING AWAY because she is not wanted in Salem anymore. xander goes off to prison, but not before having his revenge on Dr. Dan. and Nicole and Eric are going to get back together.Belle comes back looking for Shaun and finds him with his father. as far as everyone else I am not to sure. but the way it is going it looks like it is going to be very GOOD!!! keep up the good work writers!!!!

Hopefully not Daniel….maybe Clyde will meet his demise.

i think the attorney Hope is dating is going to be killed by the Hillbilly guy ! I don’t know or have a clue who will be arrested for it. Then I think Hope will start to see Rafe ! Hope Daniel & Nicole can make it work with the ex coming back……we will see.

The best murder mystery on daytime was in the 90’s on “Loving” and it was done to transition the soap to “The City”. No one was safe and the killer ended up being one of the show’s veteran characters, Gwen, who had ltruly lost it.

I hope this story is as well written and acted as that one was many years ago. If done right, the show could come out of it with improved ratings, a clearer focus, and a future past 2016.

Here, here, Dean. to a DAYS future past 2016. I believe it will happen.

I agreed about that in an earlier comment. I still remember the pen clicking and then the promos had the sound mimicking other things.

I still remember I could not figure it out for the longest time and then one day I had the opening credits paused (VHS back then) and I saw Gwen’s face. It was there and so obvious, but so well told. It’s too bad Morgan Fairchild had to ruin the future, but at least they tried to continue it.

Wanted to add that there is a video on Youtube that has the Corinth killer opening credits in a full episode entitled, Loving: Friday, October 27, 1995. It is just chilling. I think Gwyn’s face was at the very end of the credits, but I can’t see it here. I remember if I paused it just right, I could see it.

What a great promo and story. It was so Hitchockian.

Remember this: This is the sound of trouble. The kind that caresses lives even as it steals them away. That delicately unravels the fabric of entire towns like Corinth, Pennsylvania. When trouble comes, it will sound like this (then there was a series of objects: clock ticking, pen clicking, change purse opening and closing, flash bulbs from an old fashioned camera, a metronome) and Loving will never be the same again. Trouble, with a capital ‘L.’ Figure it out.

I still get chills. I only wish that Pratt on Y&R could come up with stuff like this for his stupid promos, but maybe DOOL will deliver the goods. We can only hope.

It’s funny that the writers for the LOVING storyline were criticized, but they also wrote for PORT CHARLES when that was tanking and did the vampire story. Which while “out there,” was definitely sexy. Michael Easton was so good as Caleb. Maybe I am just feeling nostalgic. I wonder if I were seeing these stories fresh in 2015 if I would feel the same way or do we all just long for the way things used to be? 🙂

Can’t wait………

1. I hope Eve and Jennifer kill each other and take the disgustingly sweet Paige with them. What is so great about her that everyone wants her. Whine whine! ~~ 2. But, undoubtedly,Sonny will have to be murdered because no gay character EVER has a happy ending. ~~ 3. Don’t forget EJ’s body was stolen by Stefano. Sure, he has someone working on reanimation or the murdered was not really EJ. ~~ 4. Mostly, I would take a good hard beating before I can watch one. more. minute. of that disgusting Sami. With all the crap she pulls on people, how are they fawning over her and caring about her feelings in the very next storyline? I’m sorry. I see NO redeeming feature in that fireplug.

Think Ben will be the killer!

Maybe he’ll kill Clyde. Not fond of Clyde. But I do like Ben.

Thom, I think you got it, man. I’m thinking Ben, too. He does have a temper, he is Clyde’s son after-all. Ben will lose it when he finds out that Abigail is really preggers with Chad’s baby. He will lose it. Though, he may lose it, but I’m not sure, hmm, he could be a great red-herring.

But won’t we have to go through MONTHS of believing that Ben is the father because daddy switched the paternity results? (rolling my eyes – been there, done that).

Well with Andre returning he is a notorious serial killer 2x now. Very possible that he is the killer.

Ummm…. my least favorite character is Xander. I hope he gets his. This being said, I bear no ill will toward any of the actors and don’t want to see anyone lose their jobs!

Vicky, I’m replying here to your other post that doesn’t have a reply option:

DAYS didn’t give Freddie Smith the boot. He chose to quit after four years.

I’m sorry! I knew that. It was a figure of speech! Sorry! When I said “let him go” I meant they should have offered him anything he wanted and not let him get away! I should have been clearer!

They are killing Aiden off. I actually like Aiden and Hope, but I guess they are doing this since Peter Reckell is returning.
I think Gabi will also be killed off, as A. Martinez is joining the cast as Gabi and Rafe’s father. He will be out for revenge.
The guy who plays Xander has also been let go, as has the guy who plays Clyde.
They should have kept Xander on; there’s a lot of potential with him.
Nothing against the guy who plays Clyde, as I liked him on “Charmed”, but Clyde was one of the worst characters in DAYS history.

OH! I forgot about the announcement that A Martinez was coming to DOOL. Wow! It can’t happen soon enough. 🙂

A. Martinez is a wonderful actor. So intense. I can’t wait to see what he brings to Days of Our Lives and welcome back to NBC, Mr. Martinez.

Hey.. Jeremy and CeeCee..
I want to tune into watch the murder mystery..
when it starts, let me know OK .. (never watched DOOL)

I think soaps need to be very careful about killing off characters, especially “fan favorites” because they often want them to come back! Days definitely needs to be careful with this. Unless the actor has decided to retire and does not ever want to return (I.e. John Clark and Renee Jones), maybe killing the characters should be avoided.

This does not sound good. I hope the new writers are doing this right.

One character Days could kill off and be okay with me is Chloe!

I agree if one of my favorites is killed off Days may as well kill off lots of fans as well cause I won’t be watching no longer. I am a new watcher of 5 years and all these old characters coming back do not interest me in the least. My mother who has been watching for almost 40 years says that she too could not care less about some of the boring characters they are bringing back. A lot of fans will quit the show. I am just hanging on by a thread as it is now!

I hope the new writers do and better job with the character of Theresa. The shouldn’t kill her, because she is a part of the Brady family. Just kill off how they have been using her. Her deeds are so immature that they are irritating! She needs to keep getting caught…the sooner than later!

DAYS has been so tedious and tiresome ever since Matthew Ashford (Jack) was killed off (again), but I will try it again with the return of Stephen Nichols (Patch) and new writers!

I think Clyde, Derrick, Paige, and Ben are goners, I also have a feeling that Rafe will be killed off for shock value. I think the killer will be Aiden.

I wouldn’t object to seeing Datillo’s character go again. After so much ado about him coming back, he’s done almost nothing. How frustrated he must be. (For the life of me I can’t remember the character’s name. I know it well, but I just can’t find it in my brain!)

Lucas Horton.

DROOL doesn’t do murder mysteries well…. remember when Marlena was a serial killer? She put one body in what looked like a turkey pinata…. then there was the death by lion mauling, caskets that show up during a blackout at a wedding….

For the sake of their fans I hope the show thrives. But it’s deadly dull. More oldie but goodies ain’t gonna save it. There has always been an overuse of love triangles on this show. Carrie Austin Sammi, Belle Phillip Shawn, Abby Chad Abs, Hope No Billie, Marlena Roman John, Sonny Paul Spawn of Sammi…

Hop Bo Billie… dang auto correct.

They need actual storylines on this show instead of triangles… elephant diamonds was too stretched out too boring and had no pay off. Great actors all around that story but lousy storytelling.

I love Days, but worried about upcoming changes. Days has undergone many transformations over the years, but the changes rarely stick. I was disappointed to read that Corday has been less involved with production over the recent year- which may account for some pretty dreadful story lines. Days has not done a good job with using returning favorites, using actors for media attention rather than to advance story. I hope they don’t drop the gay characters, but right now the story line and the universal acceptance that seems to characterize Salem seems a bit forced. How and when did all of these characters learn to embrace gays when the last time Salem had a gay character they employed a dreadful lesbian story involving Julie in the mid ’70s which was quickly aborted. I hope the killer in the murder mystery is someone tied to the past- such as Markena’s twin sister Samantha, played by her real life twin OR Marlena’s long lost first husband- Don Craig- played by Jed Allan. Now that would be cool. And while they’re at it- bring back Chandler Massey. Guy Wilson is just not fun to watch on the screen.

I have to agree with you. I am sure Guy Wilson is a good professional actor and he has been trying so hard to play Will. But it doesn’t work for me either. With Sonny leaving next month, I feel it would be the end of the gay storyline. We won’t see Chandler Massey return. I believe he said he wanted to go to college. I think its very hard for straight men to play gay characters and they want to get out of the role and do other roles. Hiring actual gay actors to play gay roles I think is still a taboo for television.
I do enjoy Christopher Sean as “Paul” and I hope he stays around for a long while, but making Paul a long-lost son of John Black really bit the shark for me. That was bad story-writing. I’m not buying it. They need to continue the gay storyline somehow and I do not find it objectionable at all.

I don’t know about everyone else, but I am really starting to get excited about DAYS. Truth is I am enjoying it very much right now. I am especially enjoying Chad and Abby! I know a lot of people might disagree and that is fine, but they are IMO the hottest couple on the show right now. The only thing I could careless about is Paige!

I have watched DOOL on and off through the years (beginning with the late 80s) so I didn’t see the last Chad, but I love Billy Flynn. I don’t care for Abigail with Ben (he is a snore), but with Chad, there is potential. My wish would have been to put Chad with ditzy Melanie because she was cute and spunky and they could have been fun, but they did not.

Yeah. I could care less about Paige too. All she does is remind me of Winnie Cooper on THE WONDER YEARS, except Winnie was far more interesting.

I hate that Days destroyed Abigail’s character; here’s a girl who was a virgin steered down a sex spree path. I consider what they did to her character as an insult to virgins. Plus, she’s become so weepy. What a mess!
I want Clyde’s character as one of the victims; he needs to pay for killing E.J.
My question is how can Victor be so tough on Zander by closing credit cards, transferring money, and hiding things ,but can’t stop Clyde because he’s afraid of what he’ll do to his family? Plus, how can Stephano not know that his house is bugged? This is a guy who knew what Sammi and Kate were doing when he wasn’t in town.
Days was good for a while; I’m trying to determine what happened to its great writing. There was a time that I didn’t know which show had the better writers; Days or General Hospital!

Did you hear that music they played on Days Of Our Lives today (August 5, 2015) when Kyle was being aggressive towards Paige and kissing her before they went to commercial? Could it be that Kyle will be the serial killer?

Never thought about that. It could be, he does works for Clyde. And nobody can stand him.

Well, there goes my idea. The character of Kyle is leaving in September.
Ken Corday had this to say that beginning September 1 and on when someone dies, they are dead.

New writer material begins to air on Days of Our Lives they believe August 20. A full script of the new writing will begin to broadcast August 24.

The killer will be revealed during the 50th Anniversary. Salem’s Bicentennial Celebration begins November 9.

Matthew Ashford and Melissa Reeves Talk Return to DAYS for Doug’s Funeral, Susan Seaforth Hayes, and Their Enduring Friendship

Last week, Days of our Lives celebrated the taping of their 15,000th episode which is tentatively scheduled to air on December 3rd. The story will feature emotional and heart-tugging scenes of Doug Williams funeral and honor his portrayer, the beloved Bill Hayes, who passed away on January 12th at the age of 98.

While the actors, producers, and crew took a lunch time break to pose for some pictures and speak with the press, they knew they would have to get back to taping the funeral, which was going to make it a tough day, but also cathartic for all who loved Bill Hayes.

Several returns have thus far been announced including; Melissa Reeves reprising her signature role of Jennifer Horton (a part she first played in 1985), and Matthew Ashford as Jack Deveraux. Reeves had last appeared on the show back in 2021, and she was replaced by Emmy-winner Cady McClain in her absence when Jennifer was in storylines. In real-life, Melissa had moved full-time to Tennessee along with her husband, Scott Reeves (ex-DAYS, GH, Y&R). Now, and as previously reported, Reeves will first appear back on DAYS for the Thanksgiving episodes with the Hortons.

Michael Fairman TV caught up with Matt and Melissa during the 15,000th episode celebration to get their take on: being back for these special episodes, how it has been working with and watching Susan Seaforth Hayes portray Julie’s grief over losing Doug, and how they have supported each other through the years. Check out what they shared below.

Melissa, you are back on the set of Days of our Lives for this very emotional and special moment in the series history. How does it feel?

MELISSA: Oh, my goodness. I am honored. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else but to be here for Bill. He was like my real-life dance partner. He taught me how to ballroom dance. And to be here for Susan, of course, who’s just been our sweet hero this whole week. We’re just following her lead. She’s just been this incredibly strong example for us in the midst of this trial and season of her life. She is like just lifting us all up with her. It’s been incredible.

I was at Bill Hayes memorial service which was truly incredible and I know at the time you were in Tennessee. It was moving and celebratory of his life, all at the same time.

MELISSA: That’s all I have heard. I have to watch it on You Tube. They said it was just a real celebration of his life and I love that.

This must be difficult for Susan Seaforth Hayes depicting the death of Doug, when she is still grieving the loss of her beloved husband. (Susan pictured above with the returning Stephen Schnetzer who plays her on-screen brother, Steve Olson).

MELISSA: I’m sure Susan has those moments at home by herself, but she’s so good at being a leader and leading all of us. We’re following her, you know, and she’s like, “This is how I want to feel today.” And we’re just going along with her, you know? It’s so sweet.

Photo: JPI

How is it to see Matt Ashford again live and in-person?

MELISSA: You know, Matt and I can go years without talking, or seeing each other, and then the minute we see each other we’re chatting away.

MATT: Melissa was out on set doing a scene yesterday on the phone talking to a stage manager; as she was telling some really tough news on the phone. I’m like crying in the background, literally, I’m off-stage crying.

MELISSA: And then we get like back into normal life, and we’re like, okay, “What’s happening? What’s happening with this … or what’s happening with that?”

I had read, Melissa, that you were in touch with Matt about if there night be a possibility for you to reprise your role as Jennifer for these special episodes?

MELISSA: Yes. Well, Matt was like, “Hey! Would you want to come back? “And I was like, “Matt, you know, I would always come back. ”

MATT:  Every time I come here to Days of our Lives, they ask, “Where’s Missy? How’s Missy?” Everybody backstage says, “I miss her.” All of the crew is asking about her and saying, “It would be nice to see Missy. Nothing wrong with you Matt, but …”  They said, “Where is she?” I said, “She wants to come!”

Photo: JPI

There are some beautiful photos of Missy and Bill and Susan thorough the years that I found. It just reminded me of just the deep and entrenched history we all have had with the show, personally and professionally.

MATT: Missy is roughly the age where Francis Reid (ex-Alice Horton) was when she started the show, which is just crazy.

Photo: JPI

I’ve always said Missy was going to be the next generation Alice. Do you feel that Jennifer is the heir apparent matriarch of the Horton family?

MELISSA: Yes. I mean, this has been greatest blessing of my life, and that would be great. I told Ken Corday (executive producer, Days of our Lives) when I was 17 that this show would be my life. Ken always told me, “This is your home,” and I’ve always felt like that.

How have gotten through the scenes watching Susan Seaforth Hayes as Julie go through the loss of Doug?

MATT: Susan is bringing her best performance life for her and Bill. I mean, she’s a showbiz baby. She always has been one hundred percent, and she’s doing it for him, and this is who they’ve always been. So, you’re seeing this amazing performance colored by her life. She has her private life as Susan, but she has enough plugged into Julie that she’s done amazing work. The director, producers and writers are giving her room to live in these moments and it’s quite wonderful.

Photo: JPI

Have you already broken down in tears during the taping?

MELISSA: Yesterday, but today’s taping of the actual funeral I think they want us to try and be just more celebratory.

MATT: I mean, it is a beautiful long life for Bill Hayes and his character of Doug Williams, and so it will be about that. Then, you get a bunch of us together in the church pews, and there’s going to be hijinks.

MELISSA: We all have been through the waves of grief. You have that awful cry and then all of a sudden you feel okay.  There are those family situations we are portraying where you’re like, “What do we do? What do we do now? You know, no one knows what to do. But, it’s so sweet. I’m looking forward to seeing how the scenes all turn out.

So, are you glad that Matt and Melissa are back for the 15K episode and Doug’s funeral? From what we can tell, it’s going to be quite an emotional journey for Days of our Lives fans, and especially the performance of Susan Seaforth Hayes,

Ron Carlivati Talks on Decision to Make Days of our Lives 15000th Episode About Doug’s Funeral, and Previews Chances for WGA Award

This week, Days of our Lives celebrated the taping of their 15,000th episode. In of it itself, that is an incredible accomplishment for the long-running soap opera currently streaming on Peacock.

However, this on set gathering was a bit different. Though the show is celebrating their achievement, they are also in the middle of taping scenes surrounding the death and the funeral of Doug Williams, played by the late Bill Hayes, who passed away on January 12th of this year at the age of 98.

As previously revealed many longtime favorites are back to honor Bill and the character of Doug including: Gloria Loring (Liz), Melissa Reeves (Jennifer), Matthew Ashford (Jack), Maree Cheatham (Marie), Victoria Konefal (Ciara) and Stephen Schnetzer (Steve) to name but a few.

Michael Fairman TV was in attendance and spoke with Days of our Lives head writer, Ron Carlivati to gain some insight into how the 15,000 episode was crafted and the decision to honor the character of Doug Williams and Bill Hayes as its epicenter. In addition, Ron weighed-in on this Sunday’s April 14th WGA (Writers Guild of America) Awards, where he and his writing team are facing off with General Hospital for the daytime drama prize. Here’s what Ron shared below.

Was this your idea to make the 15,000th episode centered around Doug’s funeral and passing?

RON: It was. When you’re looking at it, and laying out the calendar for the whole year and you see 15,000 is coming up, we’re like, “What are we going to do?” And then, we got the news that Bill had passed away and something kind of clicked. I was like, “We should honor Doug on that show.” So then, we started to kind of build around that … when does he pass away? How does he pass away? Who could come back? You know, it’s a lot.  I’m very pleased with the returns that we got as there’s so much that you could do. We wanted everybody we could get. So, we put together a wish list and Janet Drucker (co-executive producer, Days of our Lives) made it happen.

Photo: JPI

You have Melissa Reeves back as Jennifer, when the role was last played by Cady McClain. What has it meant to have Missy back for these shows?

RON: It was so nice to see Missy Reeves. I think Cady has done such a good job, but on the 15,000th episode to see Missy as Jennifer, it’s a big deal. So having her was great, and overall, the milestone was a big undertaking, because you want to live up to it. You want the 15,000th episode to be good. Now, it has a lot of real emotion that you’re playing. because for the cast and the crew they’re honoring Bill Hayes just as much as we’re honoring Doug Williams.

Photo: JPI

Was it hard for you and the team to write this episode?

RON: Yes. I’ll tell you why it was hard to write.  When I wrote, for example, Asa’s (Phillip Carey) death on One Life to Live or Victor’s (John Aniston) on DAYS, Asa is a different type of character. Like, you could have characters going, “Oh! I’m glad he is dead.” You could have different points of view, but with Doug, you’re not having that. Every person loves this man. No one had a bad relationship with him. So, you’re challenge as a writer is how do you make it that not everybody’s saying the same thing and doing the same thing. And so, we tried to find ways to make the episode about all the familial relationships and yet, how do you make it about Doug and yet broaden the scope.

Photo: JPI

I had spoken to Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie), a week after Bill’s memorial, for an interview. She said that she felt very fortunate that you did include her on discussions of how you would tackle Doug’s passing. How did that conversation go?

RON: First, I attended Bill’s funeral, which was incredible. I said to so many people it was an emotional service, but it was hard to be sad at this. The guy had an incredible life and it was an incredible celebration. And so, you’re sitting there watching this knowing that you now have to write something similar. And how do you write something that lives up to what you just witnessed? I wanted to talk to Susan to get her thoughts about, you know, how much do you want this to be about keeping Bill separate from Doug. How comfortable are you sharing your grief. She was incredible to talk to. It was a great chat.

You’re in the middle of taping these major scenes for the 15,000 episode to air in December. How do you think it’s going? Have you seen any of the scenes?

RON:  I haven’t seeing anything. I mean, we were still making changes to the script up till this morning!

Photo: JPI

The Writers Guild Awards are this Sunday, April 14th and once again this year there are two daytime drama nominees, General Hospital and Days of our Lives. How are you feeling about your chances this year?

RON: It is often just GH and us in the category. I’ve won three years in a row, so I’m kind of feeling like it’s their turn.

Photo: JPI

What episodes did you submit for contention? If I recall, they had to do with Victor’s memorial.

RON: The episodes we submitted were centered around Victor’s funeral. I think one has story with Vivian (Louise Sorel). We had some fun stuff, we had some emotional stuff at Victor’s death, and I am pretty sure that our submission was three episodes right around that time.

Did you make the decision to go with those episodes because there was a mix of humor and drama?

RON: I like to have some humor, but it was also the funeral, then there’s Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) giving birth, and then Vivian’s crashing the reading of the will. So, we had a lot of fun and it’s hard sometimes to pick three that tell a story, as opposed to submitting for the Daytime Emmys, where the writing team only submits two shows. So, we shall see how it goes on Sunday.
