One of the best character actresses we know, Diane Delano has joined the cast of ABC’s daytime drama General Hospital.

According to Soap Opera Digest, Delano will begin to appear in the newly created role of Margarethe, the assistant to Huxley, played by the incoming Trent Dawson (Ex-Henry).

Look for Delano to begin airing later this month.  Diane has extensive series credits including on Northern Exposure, Popular and on soaps on Days of our Lives and on the hit web series, Fumbling Through The Pieces.

Could Margarethe be a new villain on the GH scene? A fun quirky assistant to Huxley? Share your thoughts on Delano’s casting in the comment section below!

She’s all kinds of fun. Yeah

Why oh why couldn’t they let her be Tracy’s assistant–wouldn’t she play well off of her? Remember when Laura worked in Mr. Quartermaine’s office–made for a lot of derring-do–and just plain fun when the “real” Luke walked in–and out. Sigh for the good old days of mixing it up with the whole cast. And do you remember all the sturm and drang at The Floating Rib and in the hospital cafeteria and in the disco? I’m waxing nostalgic–better go back to youtube and watch me some more “classic” GH–LOL! 🙂

oh, Nancy, I remember the good old days. I’m surprised they don’t use a hospital cafeteria anymore, that’s where everyone went to talk about their problems (and take hostages).

Loved her as Bobbi Glass and her twin sister Jessi on POPULAR. Wish Ron Carlivati was still writing the show — he would know how to write to her strengths.

I hope this new character has a part in one of the storylines going on now with one of our legacy actors ,so many of our actors now do not have storylines ,and not as much screen time as they did so hard to understand why bring in new people if not part of a storyline going on with one of our actors now..

I agree with you. More integration of characters/plot line needed–as it used to be in the golden era.

The cast is TOO BIG and just keeps growing. It’s like GH is the unemployment pool of former daytime. UGH.

Paired with Dawson I am sure they will be funny and quirky– and although I am glad to see talented actors get a gig, not sure why GH keeps adding new characters instead of writing for the characters they already have.

I understand that over the course of fifty years it is impossible not to create new characters, but how did a show that once focused on the lives of those work in a large hospital morph into a show with mobsters, spies, mad evil scientists and the corporate world? One only has to look at prime time shows like MASH and ER to see how it is possible to withstand changes in cast without losing the core, the heart, the essence of what made the show tick.

With every new character any soap creates that has noting to do with original vision of the show, the further the show drifts from what it was, the more the show is written like it a whole new soap under the guise of a establish show, the more viewers tune out– because what is on screen isn’t the show the signed up to watch—

I think what GH needs right now is to go back to the original vision for the show, and find it’s heart again, and find writers that are willing to write with that vision in mind instead of creating new characters because it is easier and more profitable for them. Because right now if I was just starting to watch this show I would be really confused about what it is about, it seems to be just a collection of characters with no real binding force between them other than the fact they all live in Port Charles.

Couldn’t agree more with your sentiments–GH needs to “find its heart again.”
You are correct that it “seems to be just a collection of characters with no real binding force.” Yes, confusing to new viewers–and confounding to the “old” 🙂 ones.

Appreciate and agree whole-heartedly with your sentiments.

Also agree, Mary SF. Andre, Jordan, Rachel/Hayden, Naomi, Finn, Aaron (talk about amateurish acting!), Parker, Nurse Amy, Claudette (sight unseen), you can keep them all! Bring back sexy Johnny and live wire Spinelli. At least they have some life in them.

Who the hell is Huxley?

A new character played by Trent Dawson.

INTERESTING……….

These actors coming in from from the dead soaps. I have zero knowledge about them, so to me they are simply newbies..
That being said; I like new characters. They take screen time away for the cringe worthy Sam ugh, so all is good ahaa!
Anyways- I do like new stuff, so new characters are always good for me.
I hope she will be a nasty piece of work, a real bonafide bitch- but I highly doubt it ..

There are some “dead” soaps, su0000–can we unearth them? LOL!

The character of Sam IS cringe worthy and speaks in a monotone. Also, she is a terrible P.I. For years now, the character seems to be integrated into numerous storylines. It’s awful.

Who is Huxley?!?

Another new character we’ve yet to see…sigh….

who the heck is “huxley” and why are we getting all these new characters???????

She and Huxley looking for those diamonds, they are hiding Nik, Claudettes family, Finn stole Roxy from them, they are assassins out to kill Griffen, she had Sonny’s 100th child and its Huxley, they are relatives of Spinneli, Helene using a youth serum created by Finn, long lost Qs…ok, people with absolute no connection to the show….all the above!!!-lol

A new character attached to a new character that might somehow be connected to some other new characters.

We don’t know who Huxley is yet. A short term role, so they say now, to be played by Trent Dawson late of ATWT. This is an interesting development. I will proceed with caution as I am not currently liking the character of Julian and his behavior. He is creepy. I am thinking of not watching the entire show at all.

I’ll give her and ” Huxley” a chance but i never heard of either of these actors. And if they want quirky, funny and endearing they should bring back Spinelli full time!

Maybe they’ll play Spinelli’s parents?! Does Spinelli even have parents or are they both dead?

Lol, I don’t remember. I think he was raised by his grandmother.

Yeah, who the hell is Huxley?

I’m with you, Rochelle. Never heard of either, albeit she looks very familiar to me.
At this point, only the Griffin-Nathan story and the outcome of Alexis’s predicament , interest me…. with a dash of Hayden, her mother and Liz.
I have never felt pity for a character, whom I was not really into before, as I do for Alexis. It took her such a long time to snap out of this hypnotic state and do the right thing.
I do appreciate new faces, but, I am eager to see Alexis through this and rid herself of Julian once and for all.

Hello, Celia!!!! (I mean, “CeeCeeGirl!”)….If you have ever seen “Northern Exposure,” then the delightful Ms. Delano should look mighty familiar as she appeared as the firearms-fixated, super alpha-female cop/main squeeze of former astronaut Maurice Minnefield…and what an absolute hoot she was in all of her over-enthusiastic policewoman glory! (How hilarious would it be for her to go fisticuffs with “The Dominator,” aka, Alice??? I wouldn’t want to place bets on the outcome….LOL.) Not unlike yourself, I’m currently much less engaged in GH and the convoluted mess it has become…in fact, over these past few months, I watched the Anna/Duke farewell and Laura/Kevin disco scene and that was about it…..I intended to tune in for the NB until I discovered Dr. O’s gargantuanly gifted Kathleen Gati was being kept off the stage in favor of much lesser talents and I boycotted the whole thing in protest. Quite frankly, I’ve really lost my patience with this dreadful show….it never seems to get better, only worse by repeating the same mistakes again and again, such as adding more and more unnecessary newbies, and over-emphasizing the wrong characters, both old and more recent ones. As for the pathetic Alexis???? I’ve loved her fall from her own self-inflicted hubris….it’s truly time for this romantically-deluded woman to give up on the stubborn notion of being Port Charles’ version of Susan Sarandon and resort to becoming a crazy cat lady with a houseful of felines (That one’s for you, Timmmbo!) since she is so obviously incapable of having a healthy adult relationship, instead always opting for her default setting of a lovesick high schooler who falls for the “Leader of the Pack” whenever the opportunity presents itself. (Perhaps that proverbial suggestion to take up knitting as a hobby might also not go amiss!) By the way, I’ve responded to you a few times via my new phone and even though the remarks were posted, they ended up at the bottom of the thread as opposed to below your direct link where I placed them….don’t know what was up with that, but just wanted you to know that you had not been ignored. Anyway, hope all is well with you and that your great-gran is feeling better.

@Shay.
HELLO, MY LOVE:
Unfortunately, I never watched NORTHERN EXPOSURE. But, she does look very familiar to me.
I am not into GH as I am into Y&R these days. I am not enjoying Jason Thompson’s Billy….but, I see a light at the end of the tunnel for the soap, again. Y&R has always been my favorite soap….sooooo, I am invested.
Only you can make the words to describe Alexis jump out and grab me.
Yes, Alexis should have known better; but, as I stated days ago, I do feel sorry for her predicament. She was caught up in her devil-may-care extravaganza, running amok after that degenerate who was able to pull the wool over her eyes and promise her rainbows……turning coal to gold right before her eyes.
I also know that her wayward ways, acting as a teen, blinded her to Julian’s deception….yet, I have softened toward her because her story somehow touched my sensitivity; my emotions.
I am interested to see how far Alexis will go. Does she have the chutzpah to bury him. How will she prove it, if he took the last piece of evidence. Or has he? There’s always the dagger.
The cad is actually still working her by having Lucas’ wedding at the house. I want Alexis to be strong and turn a new leaf and make sound decisions from now on. I WANT to like this character. LOL.
See what I mean, Shaybelle? What’s going on with me? I feel pity for Alexis. Go figure.
I also think Nancy’s performance was stunning. Never saw her in this light. I like it! Why? Because Alexis has been acting the adult, as she looks at Julian through, clear, judicious eyes.

My GG is doing okay. She’s lucid. That’s one thing about her that is indestructible. We should all
Have her mind, at that age. Thank you for asking. Hope all is well with you.

@CeeCee….I’m fine, thank you, just been very busy! (And bored to tears with GH….it’s as you have mentioned regarding your Days, I barely recognize the show anymore, and I’ve become less and less inclined to bother with it, including recaps and spoilers…) But I have read many of your posts since you’ve returned to us, even though I haven’t replied much….other than on 5/21 and 5/31 threads when I sent you quick personal responses that failed to land in the right place! (However, they are still there, if you care to check….) Having said that, I feel for your current family situation, yet how fortunate you’ve been to grow up in such a multi-generational atmosphere….the obvious influence of your amazing grans has definitely made you wise beyond your years and it shows, my dear! Which is why I’m sure you could never be the fool that is Alexis. Whilst I can appreciate your sentiments for the character, perhaps I’ve seen this disillusioned side to her far too many times already….with Sonny, Ric, Jerry, now Julian…..bad boys all, and yet this woman just makes the same poor romantic choices again and again. Both in drama and real life, I have no patience for females who don’t learn from their mistakes, especially when it damages their children and imperils their lives….so as you so optimistically hope for this to be a true turning point for Ms. Davis, all I can think is WHO will be the next smooth criminal that she beds???? After all, the insatiable Alexis is not one to do without for very long….in addition to suggesting professional help to kick her habit of immensely awful taste in men, perhaps in the future she should rely on a more personal form of mechanical stimulation to scratch that perpetual itch of hers….what a storyline that would make, eh? I’m sure NLG could bring just the right “vibe” to that scenario….LOL! (And for the record, I’m also still pushing for that feline menagerie ….nothing says “woman over the edge” like a houseful of cats! It’s classic cuckoo!) Toodles, mia amica!

@Shay.
I hear you, Shaybelle. Turning Alexis around is exactly what I am trying to impart. I can understand that the character seems like lost cause. Alexis falls into the same fetid pit repeatedly.
I think this is the perfect opportunity for the writers to ‘exhibit’ (lol) Alexis as the smart, sane, mature, officer of the court, advocate extraordinaire, that she is purportedly is. Get Julian. !!!!!
What really incensed me about yesterday’s episode was Carly’s gall. What impudence!!!!
Don’t get me wrong, mia bella, I detest Julian….but, for Carly to spew her hypocritical, holier-than-thou caca against Julian to Alexis, turns me inside-out and upside-down, hither and yon……as if….as if…..as if her husband wears a halo and has wings.
Thank you again, Shay. Yes, I count my blessings for my family. Later, cara.

Well, CeeCeeGirl, there’s one thing that Carly has never been short of and that is GALL!!!! She is the ultimate hypocrite in so many ways, and it does wear mighty thin….as you know, I’m no fan of the Corinthi and the manner in which they have been held up as some sort of supercouple….always destined to be together in the end….it actually sickens me, and that is a shame because I consider Laura Wright to be so much better than being pigeonholed as the perpetual mob moll apologist. (She was best with Jax since at least to some extent their romance broke her out of that mold, although Sonny and his unsavory influence was never far away and kept drawing her back into his seamy underworld antics even during her time as Mrs. Jacks.) As for Alexis, I can see your point about redeeming her character into someone who could garner some respect, but for me, it’s simply a case of too little, too late…..I’m just so sick of her….she’s had frontburner status for far too long and it was solely squandered on silly, sophomoric sexcapades. I’m much more invested in seeing where Laura and Kevin’s romantic adventure leads and how Anna moves on with her life…..these are the two “women of a certain age” who grab my interest, along with Tracy, albeit her current inexplicable obsession with someone else’s “nino” grates on me….this is a woman who barely had time for her own sons and now she’s slobbering all over a gangster’s offspring….I find it rather off-putting and blame the aftereffects of Ms. Quartermaine’s brain surgery and Finn’s prescribed course of drugs for her obvious lapse in her signature behavior. Me wants the tried and true Tracy back, in all of her delicious witchy and wicked glory, ready to snatch the reins of ELQ from the hapless and hopeless Mikey! (You go, Girl!) Of course, by now, I’ve learned not to expect much of my desired dramas of GH to come to fruition…..there only seems to be more of the same with characters—both old and new—for whom I hold no regard….maybe that’s why I’m finding it easier and easier to skip this show. Just saying!

Julian Jerome will sadly soon be off. His 4 year comtract will expire soon. After he looses Alexis,it will be over. And even more sad, ava will follow. Sonny always wins.

I agree Sonny always wins. Julian and will Ava Jerome will be Gone for good this time!

Sad, isn’t it, Ghlover? Maura West is a gold mine.

Geez. Another new character.

Can not wait, she is a great character actress , she would be great with Tracy.

She was awesome in POPULAR..I am certain she will bring much needed comic relief to the show!!

Truly, it wouldn’t be smart to follow the formula of Mash and ER. They each had a wonderful run but, they’re dead now – for a reason. That was then, this is now and while the past always looks better than it was when we look back at it, it’s a wasted effort to keep hoping it will return. It won’t. It can’t. It shouldn’t. You can never move forward looking back and it’s clear, today’s audience of the core demos doesn’t want to…in any arena. Old retreads of anything are boring. It’s a different world, like it or not. Soaps must evolve if they want to be a part of it. Going back to the original formula will not help them be vital today. It will ensure their demise. Just ask those who refused to change. Oh wait. We can’t. They’re gone.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Brook Lynn and Chase Have Their Bachelor and Bachelorette Parties

On General Hospital, Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) and Chase (Josh Swickard) both were treated to Bachelorette and Bachelor parties to shake off any of those pre-wedding jitters. At The Savoy, the ladies have a touching and fun time with Brook Lynn.

The bride-to-be gives a speech to thank everyone for coming, while Lois lets everyone know to try the signature cocktail the “Brooklynn Chaser”, which gets everybody eventually and mostly, drunk.

When Tracy (Jane Elliot) questions Lois (Rena Sofer) as to why there is no music for the party, Lois realizes she forgot, and somehow, who does she call to the rescue? Spinelli (Bradford Anderson)! Saving the day, he winds up playing some tunes and later gets on the dance floor to ‘shake it off’ with the gals.

Photo: ABC

Lois makes a speech as the mother of the bride, and shares how proud she is of the woman Brook Lynn has become. Wedding games begin, including one of “hot potato” with a wedding bouquet.

When it’s time for the “Silly Poses” section of the party, Spinelli has now morphed from DJ to staff photographer taking memorable photos of the ladies to remember the evening by.

Photo: ABC

The best part of the event, was when Brook Lynn tries to get her grandmother Tracy out on the dance floor, which, at first, she refuses. After several of the guests bust a move, a tipsy Tracy joins the dance party after Joss mentions that if her grandmother Bobbie was here, she would dance. Tracy says “she agrees” and begins to cut a rug on the floor, much to the delight of the other women.

Photo: ABC

In the final moments, a tipsy Joss and Kristina (Kate Mansi) have a confrontation about Sonny, and Joss lets Kristina in more on Sonny’s behavior, which looks to have clued in Kristina a bit more as to how something is way off about her dad.

Photo: ABC

Across town at the Hatchett Bar, Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) and the men with the exception of Anna (Finola Hughes) and Jordan (Tanisha Harper), all attend Chase’s Bachelor Party where throwing hatchets into a dart board for supremacy is the order of the day. Drew (Cameron Mathison) and Ned (Wally Kurth) get into some words over ELQ, while Dante makes a toast to his police partner, Chase.

Photo: ABC

Suddenly Dex (Evan Hofer) shows up. Chase thanks Dex for coming, but Dex gets some dirty looks from other cops on the force. Dante gives Chase his present, which is a signed baseball by the Boston Red Sox.

Ned (Wally Kurth) makes a speech that although no one is good enough for his daughter, Brook Lynn, Chase has come closer than anyone has, so welcome to the family. Running in at the end is Blaze (Jacqueline Grace Lopez), who just left Brook Lynn’s party, and she toasts her singing partner, Chase, and to the great man that he is.

Cameron Mathison Previews New Game Show ‘Beat The Bridge’ (Promo)

As previously reported, Cameron Mathison (Drew, General Hospital) will be seen doing double duty this summer when he premieres in June as the host of Game Show Network’s Beat The Bridge.

Now, while Cameron will be the host with the most, that doesn’t mean he will stop playing GH’s Drew.  In fact, Mathison taped the game show in 2023, so it will now air for the first time in 2024.

Taking to his Instagram this week, Cameron shared his enthusiasm and some new hosting snaps, sharing, “Our newest game show host reporting for duty😎 Head over to the Game Show Network YouTube channel for your first look at the show and don’t miss Beat The Bridge premiering this June! In Beat The Bridge, an enormous interactive bridge dares players to cross by stepping on the right answers to challenging trivia questions. As they play, each steps forward and puts money in their team’s bank, with bonus money for each successful crossing. Here’s the catch: the team gets to keep the money only if it can “beat the bridge” by returning one of its players back across before time expires.

Meanwhile, on GH, Drew and Nina (Cynthia Watros) recently had hate-sex. Do you think its a one-time deal? Where will Drew’s story take him next under new head writers, Patrick Mulcahey and Elizabeth Korte? Stay tuned.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Nina Confronts Ava for Sabotaging Her Relationship With Sonny and Signs the Divorce Papers

Looks like Nina (Cynthia Watros) and Ava (Maura West) are back to be each other’s sworn enemy number one. By the end of the Monday, April 22nd episode of General Hospital, the women know where they stand with each other after Nina goes in on Ava accusing her of wanting Sonny (Maurice Benard) all to herself, while her marriage has been on the rocks.

In story, at Nina’s office, Ava shows up to see Nina and says she is sorry about what happened with Sonny and that he reacted the way he did, acknowledging that is was over the top, even for Sonny. Ava says she’ll smooth things over, but Nina says she now understands how manipulative and transparent Ava really is.

Given their horrible history, Nina goes in on Ava and how she should never have trusted her. Nina wants to know how long has Ava had this agenda dating all the way back to telling Nina to turn Carly (Laura Wright) and Drew (Cameron Mathison) into the SEC. Ava says she never told her do to that, but Nina wants to know how long Ava has been playing her for a fool.

Courtesy/ABC

Ava says she moved in with Sonny to keep Avery safe and she wants to be on good terms with Avery’s father, Sonny. Nina thinks she likes being in Sonny’s inner circle. Ava tells Nina if she goes to him about her advising Nina to call the SEC on Carly and Drew, it won’t work.  Sonny still considers Nina a traitor and he will think she’s lying because she’s so desperate to win him back. Ava says if Nina would stop blaming everyone else that maybe Sonny would respect her.  Nina says “like he does you?” Ava says Sonny not only respects her, but he also counts on her.

From there, Ava launches into why she and Sonny understand each other, after all, Sonny is a powerful, turbulent, and sometimes violent man. She goes so far to say if Nina wanted someone to just sit by the fire with and play with their grandchildren, she’s got the wrong guy.  Ava then talks about Mike from Nixon Falls (Sonny with amnesia) and how Sonny hid the darkest parts of himself from Nina back then, whereas with Ava they are the same similar creatures, so he doesn’t have to hide anything.

Courtesy/ABC

Nina wants to know just what Ava wants with Sonny? What is her end game? Ava responds that they understand each other, in ways she can’t with Sonny. Nina tells Ava she can go ahead and have it all and signs Sonny’s divorce papers. Ava walks out with the documents, while Nina in tears at her desk, takes off her wedding rings and has her assistant come in so she can messenger the rings back to Sonny’s address.

The episode and these scenes featured great performances by Cynthia Watros and Maura West. You can check some of the scenes below.

Now, let us know, what is Ava’s next move? Is she going to become Mrs. Sonny Corinthos? Do you like Ava and Nina as enemies? Comment below.
