DYNASTY: An Unexpected Arrest! How Would You Grade The Reboot Thus Far?

Wednesday’s second episode of CW’s Dynasty reboot was filled with some sudsy moments on steroids, picking right up from where the first installment left off, right as the Carringtons learned of the fate of Matthew Blaisdel (guest star, Nick Wechsler).

It is former GH star, Brianna Brown now playing the role of Claudia Blaisdel, originally played in the 80’s by Pamela Bellwood, who blames Blake for his death. After all, it is revealed through flashbacks just how Cristal (Blake’s newbie wife) was in love with Matthew, and how she was carrying on an affair with him.  So, it would seem Blake wanted the guy dead and out of the way of his relationship with his new bride. But, did he set-up the construction site disaster that killed Blaisdel?

During the funeral, we get a Fallon bl-job in the chauffeur’s car next to the burial site, and then later Fallon irking Cristal on. So much so, that Cristal finally pushes Fallon into an open pit cemetery plot! The wake following the funeral gets even soapier, when Fallon emerges in a red dress, while everyone else is in black.  Jeff Colby shows up with a way to wipe off potentially damning photo evidence against the Carringtons in the murder, which he gives to Fallon, but Blake is not having anything Colby has to offer up.

Cristal is torn between seeing the lengths Blake will go to deflect suspicion from his family, and being disgusted by it, and by her desire to prove her loyalty and love to him. After being reminded by Sam that she, too, has crossed lines for family, Cristal does a heel turn and lies to Willy, Matthew’s partner on the construction site, while Willy is drunk and blaming Blake for Matthew’s demise.

Cristal tells Willy that Matthew was in love with her, but it was all one-sided. She then fires the poor guy!  Next, after seemingly upset for what she does, she ends up bonking with Blake right there in the private study during the wake!  Yup, funeral sex! Remember, crypt sex on GH?

Then in a major bombshell, the FBI shows up in full force to make an arrest, and it is none other than Steven Carrington who is carted away and taken into custody! What is the twist? Is he taking the rap for his father, or someone else, or did he do the deed and set the death of Matthew Blaisdel in motion? Tune in next week.

So, what have been your thoughts on the new 2017 version of Dynasty? How would you grade it thus far  .. A, B, C, D, or an F? Let us know in the comment section below!

I seen two minutes and it was terrible…and from what i read it sounds even more disgusting…i rather watch repeats of the classic original…

F…is the perfect grade for Disastersy which also would be a better title!!!

Jimh, I love the “Disastersy” moniker!

L-O-L

More like “Travesty!”

Me too!

I agree with you!

I also made it for only about 2 minutes. Maybe 3.

Pales in comparison to the original. They should have followed Dallas and had a couple of cast members from the original show. This is what made Dallas popular The untimely death of Larry Hagman unfortunately ended Dallas as well.

The Dallas reboot was really good. I was so upset when it was cancelled. Having some of the original cast members was awesome!!

The dallas reboot was great during S01 and S02. S03 was a complete mess though.

This reboot is a a travesty and would make Aaron Spelling roll in his grave. If you are going to reboot a show and cannot have the original cast, at least have them be similar and have the show be based on the same thing. Denver Carrington and Blake were the center. Crystal, not Cristal was a wonderful character and not a mean schemer. I could go on but choose not to and choose to not watch it again.

It’s been only two episodes and from what I hear, the original Dynasty did not become what it was until much later on.

I watched the original from day one. I know this is 2017 but even in the beginning you could see how Denver played such an important part of the story. Blake was a much older man and yes Fallon was going to be trouble but did not clash over Crystal because of business. She just did not like daddy’s choice and acted out. It may be only two episodes but this is nothing like I ever expected. Enjoy your version but some classics should never be tampered with. It would be like a Dallas reboot and not be in Texas.

It’s so sad. I really wanted this to be good, but it’s terrible. It wont last.

Don’t care for the reboot Dynasty.
Don’t like they made Sammy Jo male. Don’t like they making this version of Crystal seem evil. Grant is good as Blake. But he not old enough to play Blake. The casting is way off. I rather watch reruns of the old Dynasty instead.

ITA

The ratings for last night indicate an audience of under 1 million, way below the daily ratings for GH and DAYS. This reboot is a bust.

If you loved the original Dynasty, then in my opinion, you will LOVE this version. Please give it a try!! I was completely surprised at how much this version resembles the past version in tone and storyline. The updates to the characters bring this story into present day. The campiness is what Dynasty has always been about… EXCESS and EXTREMES! That is what made the original a classic and the new version is off to a great start! PLEASE announce that Heather Locklear will be playing the role of Alexis!!! The gender switch for Sammy Jo is brilliant!!!

Seriousy? You must be on their payroll.

A

The original is the BEST!! Need I say more!

No where near as good as the original. If it was anywhere but on the CW it would be gone already.

I heard the ratings are horrible…won’t last at all…Doesn’t Hollywood know that you cannot really redo a classic?

The same can be said last year with Riverdale where it was averaging only a million viewers per episode but then it reached a series high twice its average on its season premiere.

Grade C-
Too many changes from the original series
The characters of Blake and Fallon are the best.
I will keep watching hoping it gets better…

It’s not good. Nothing near the great show the original was. I’ll be surprised if it lasts til Christmas.

The series is gawd awful..
I’m out ..

Look, Grant Show has tried to be the lead in every show he has been in and ummm………he can’t hold up his part of the deal…this show is stupidity personified. I can guarantee you that no bars across the country will have a Dynasty night like in the 80’s. I will recommend perhaps a celebration when this stupid effort goes up in flames and is replaced by a reboot of Mr. Ed, with Grant Show playing the horse.

i couldn’t pass this up. Hilarious Mateo. Like i said in another post this show should be called TRAVESTY. It’s so different it’s outright jarring. This show isn’t even for Gossip Girl fans. The knock off Empire type music is insulting at best. It seems at the outset they may have wanted to replicate the original in some way but threw in the towel. It’s definitely NOT must see like the new Will and Grace..still hilarious.

Okay, here’s the guy who, just last week, expressed loyalty to the Dynasty brand and fervent, if not misguided, hope for the reboot…

I just have to say, once and for all, anytime oral sex is simulated/depicted on film or TV, it is disgusting and it tarnishes the entire enterprise! So Dynasty is now 2 for 2. Which characters will be simulating oral sex in episode 3? Will such scenes becomes a staple for the show? Akin to the requisite physical altercations between Alexis and Krystle?

I don’t care about the gender or sexual orientation of each participant, anytime this shocking device is trotted out, it ventures below the belt. Pun intended!

Unless my memory deceives me, I believe the first episode of the online OLTL reboot also featured such a scene.

You would expect such scenes in pornography, that is, if you were looking for that sort of thing… But inserting these scenes simply for shock value and prurient titillation is a lazy, contrived plot device that negates any goodwill the writers may have going for them.

hi Jamesj75 ,,
If it had pornography scenes I might have stayed tuned in.
And sex no longer has a shock value, it’s too common.
and oral sex being simulated is hoohumm..

Dynasty is simply gawd awful no excuses can erase that fact.

Hi su0000:

You absolutely crack me up! 🙂
Thanks for your reply! All your points are well taken.
Take care, Friend!

hey James..
To me– the problem is this Dynasty is still hanging in a past era..
example..
Murder on the Orient Express is a great classic, nothing can take its’ greatness away.
Now, it has been remade and not remade to destroy the original but to give us the 2017 ”difference” and it looks awesome!

Dynasty failed to come into the 21st century, to be the same yet very different, it is stuck in where it came from..

The revived Murder on the Orient Express is simply showing a 2017 high tech makeover..
Nov. I’m going to be in the line at the opening.

Agree. The Starr Report and the nightly news reports for almost two years drained the snake of its potency. Pun intended! 😉

Brother…I tried giving Dynasty 2017 a chance. Sorry, Brother…but I don’t buy any of it!!!!! At all. LONG LIVE THE ORIGINAL DYNASTY (1981-1989)…PERIOD!!!!!

Later, Brother.

Yes, jaybird369, the original Dynasty was something special! Most of the time…

Well said…and those scenes you mentioned is totally uncalled for..does nothing to the story but gives it a sleazy feel…

Thank you, Jimh!

Could not believe how bad it was.

I suspect nuDynasty would go over better if we had Bill Conti’s original theme pushing the thin scenes forward.

The first season of the original DYNASTY was pretty much a snooze fest so I’m not writing this reboot off just yet. It’s from the creators of GOSSIP GIRL and Sallie Patrick from REVENGE so the talent is there. I think some viewers are thrown off by the fact that it’s not a carbon copy of the original which would have been a ridiculous route to take — if you knew what was going to happen why would you tune in each week?

I’m still not sold on some of the casting but then I wasn’t a fan of everyone on the original either…

The original was pure escapism, which is what this version has the potential to be! Fallon being pushed into an open grave was the best thing I have seen since the original Krystle & Alexis cat fights from the 80’s!!

True it is not anywhere near what the original was, yet I’m going to give it a chance Fallon is making it worth a chance. She really steals the show.

I think it was – Cristal – who steals the show

she really surprised me in a good way.

she was confident and didn’t overact her play

from the catfight w/Fallon to the fallout of her “affair” with Claudia husband.
dang he “looked” like a good actor

I don’t think i’ll be tuning in… the first thing I thought of during the opening – with all that gold and riches.. was Trump. not a good feeling.

Nathalie Kelley – a force to be reckon

haha, Patrick…”gold and Trump.” I hear ya!

I really like new dynasty! Its fun and tacky at same time

Well, from all I’ve read here, “tacky” doesn’t begin to cover it…..

I get that folks don’t like this show. But please look at seasons 1 – 3 of the original which ranged from hot mess to dull.

Blake was always a stiff board. Crystal was always uninteresting. At least here they attempt to fix that. Nasty Fallon was the best thing about S1. But then they paired her with Derwood and she turned in to Stepford Wife Fallon. Steven slipped in and out of gay. Season one he was paired with the always a little crazy Claudia and then Sammi Jo. Actor quit over this trepidation. Blake who had a murderous hatred of homosexuals was given a pass the horned up chauffeur Roman Brady had nothing to do. Cowboy Blaisdell and his lumpen teen daughter were as awful as perpetual nutjob Claudia. Jeff Colby was a constant bathroom break of a character.

S2 was the arrival of La Joan. She loved her gay son who wasn’t at all gay. And she was an Artiste, a Free Spirit. The elements were taking shepebut they weren’t gelling just yet.

Dynasty as we know it takes snap in S3. The network opens the budgets and the shoulder pads begin to kiss earlobes. We see fur. Alexis finds her inner Drag Queen. After we lose Steven we gain my favorite character, Devious Long Dead Adam. Now we’re going somewhere.

Crystals only good storyline was with the doppelganger when Semi Jo had her kidnapped and replaced. George Whatsawhosie was great and it was a romp. I think the audiences didn’t like it so it wrapped up too soon.

Next week: Are you kidding with those first seasons of Dallas?! The pace of that show was comparable to a tortoise 500k run!

Should be a period BTW Blake was given a pass. Horned up chauffeur was a new sentence. Although Blake as a horned up chauffeur would be ratings gold!

There’s a lot to like about Dynasty. Big, sprawling family saga. Interesting relationships, glamorous sets, beautiful actors – there’s no reason why it shouldn’t be a success. But why? Last time I saw Krystle she was a tall platinum blonde and Blake was silver fox.
Why reimagine these characters? Give it its own themes and personalities. The writers better make sure the characters have good stories to play or we won’t care about them and won’t watch. And why don’t we have the original theme song?! I miss those final two notes!

Rated D.
The casting is way off. I do like Grant Show as Blake. Crystal was a cool blonde not a hot Latina. SammyJo could have been cast as a hot Latina not a gay man. Jeff was a waspish goody mild tempered Yuppie. Fallon’s casting gets a B+
The story lines suck (no pun intended). Denver is oil – Atlanta is peaches. That was the first mistake. I’m sure it is because is much cheaper to shoot in Atlanta than Denver. Also the climate is more conducive to outdoor filming.
Overall very disappointing. I will DVR the first season. If there is a season two, I will binge watch

The acting and writing is horrible. There is not a single characters that seems like an actual human-being. This is way worse than I expected.

I love it so far. Of course there are things I would love to change when it comes to casting. But the overall feel of the show has me glued. I love that they made ‘Chrystal’ Catty it will give a different spin on things. When she pushed her into the grave it gave me bumps and reminded me of the pool scene years ago. Give it a chance guys and stop nit picking everything.

I only saw the previews, and it look beyond dreadful-wrong casting and terrible acting. Why cancel the reboot of Dallas? The new series was so good, and paid respect to its history and iconic characters. I enjoyed the reboot of Dallas. The reboot of 90210, Melrose Place, and Dynasty should have never happened. I would much rather watch reruns of the original Dynasty!

I liked the reboot, guess I’m the only one :/ I like the different twists, glad it’s not like the original.

I have to look at it two different ways. First compared to the original and to tell the truth…there is no comparison. It gets an F.

But on it’s own…so far it has not been quality must see likable TV. When I have to strain to enjoy a show it’s not a good one and this just isn’t that good. The acting is flat, the story is flat and the drama is non-existent. I don’t even find any of the characters to be likable and there is o one to root for. So again it gets an F.

Maybe I’m being to critical but I grew up in a time where we had quality soaps, daytime and prime-time. And this one just doesn’t work for me.

Jacob Young Shares Production Pic of Cast of His New Film Featuring Joan Collins and Nadia Bjorlin

Last month, during a livestream conversation on the Michael Fairman Channel, while promoting Jason Cook’s film, Four for Fun, and featuring soap notables Jacob Young (ex-AJ, AMC, ex-Lucky, GH, ex-Rick, B&B) and Brytni Sarpy (Y&R), Young revealed some intel on his upcoming movie project.

Jacob shared that he was set to direct, produce and star in a Agatha Christie-like murder mystery feature film, Murder Between Friends shooting in Prague.

The actor/director expressed, “I’m flying at the end of the March to Prague to direct, produce and star in a film with Joan Collins (ex-Dynasty). Nadia Bjorlin (ex-Chloe, Days of our Lives) is in it, and Toby Alexander Smith from Eastenders (ex-Gray Atkins). Plus, a couple of my Broadway friends and a very well known Czech actress (Hana Vagnerova). It’s very ‘Knives Out’ without having a hundred million dollars to shoot it, but still will be a lovely film nonetheless.”

Young is currently shooting the film’s principal photography abroad through April 17th.

Over the weekend, Jacob took to his Instagram to share a photo with the cast of the film where pictured is former Dynasty star, Joan Collins (ex-Alexis) and former Days of our Lives star, Nadia Bjorlin (ex-Chloe). In addition, former All My Children star, Trent Garrett (ex-Asher) is seen in director-mode kneeling.

Trent and Jacob are both co-directors of Murder Between Friends Joan Collins shared the pic on her Instagram citing, “This was the #secret I posted about several weeks ago!”

So, looking forward to seeing Jacob’s film when it is released with Joan, Nadia, and company? Let us know in the comment section.

Elizabeth Gillies First Post-‘Dynasty’ Role Revealed; GH Alum Bryan Craig Also In Cast

Now that the CW’s Dynasty has come to its conclusion after five seasons, many have wondered what series star Elizabeth Gillies (ex-Fallon) will be seen in next.  Part of the answer was revealed today in casting news via Deadline.

Gillies will star and is the co-executive producer of a new Tubi film called Spread.  In it, Liz will take on the role of  ambitious and aspiring journalist, who lands a temp job at an adult magazine run by an aging industry king played by Harvey Keitel.  The character must reconcile her idealism as she strives to help the company succeed.

The film also stars two-time Daytime Emmy winner Bryan Craig (ex-General Hospital, Good Trouble).

Look for Spread to drop on Tubi in 2023.

DYNASTY Series Finale: A ‘False Face’ Revealed!

After five seasons, the final episode of CW’s Dynasty came to its conclusion on Friday night, but not before it delivered another soapy trope – a use of a prosthetic mask (sound familiar Days of our Lives fans?) to hide someone’s true identify.

Here’s what went down: After majordomo Graham (Dan Amboyer) had kidnapped Adam (Sam Underwood), in a shocker, Graham peels off his face! Yup, it was a prosthetic mask and reveals himself to be none other than Steven Carrington (James Mackay)!

After being kept away by Adam for years (he had hidden Steven in a sanitarium and then the place burned down), Steven finally figured out it was Adam who was pulling the strings of his disappearance. Next, came an all-out brawl; where instead of an opportunity to inject Adam with a syringe of some sort of concoction as payback, he almost killed his scheming half-brother. However, Steven didn’t want be a murderer, so he let Adam live to see another day, but told Adam to exile himself from the Carringtons and never return.

With that, and now masked again, Graham meets up with Sam (Rafael de La Fuente) at the hotel bar, where he eventually pulls off his mask to reveal himself as Steven. Kudos to de La Fuente in those scenes who gave us all the feels as Sam is reunited with the man he loves.

Photo: CW

Still in another heart-tugger, Fallon (Elizabeth Gillies) comes upon a man sitting at the piano at the Carringtons, and when he turns around, she sees its her brother, Steven.  The two, in typical CW Dynasty-style, break into song.  It was touchingly played by series star, Gillies along with Mackay. Elsewhere, Alexis and Blake (Grant Show) are trouncing through a horrific storm trying to find Dex. Ultimately, Alexis (Elaine Hendrix) and Dex (Pej Vahdat) reunite, and when a softened Blake returns home, he and Crystal (Daniella Alonso) vow to stay together and cement it with a kiss.

In addition, Amanda (Eliza Bennett) gets a job offer to return to London from her ex-lover, which puts her relationship with Kirby (Maddison Brown) in question.  Culhane (Robert Christopher Riley) told Sam that he’ll be moving to LA and selling his part of the hotel business they have together before he marries Nina.  Sam doesn’t take that news well and tries to ensure no one else will take Culhane’s half of their business partnership, because he likes working with him so much.  Meanwhile, the surrogate, Stacey Moore (Samantha Massell), delivers Fallon and Liam’s (Adam Huber) baby and they welcome their little girl to the dysfunction of the Carrington clan.

Photo:

We are onto the final moments via a six-month time jump and the trajectory of the Carringtons and their extended family become known. Sam presides over Culhane’s wedding to Nina (Felisha Terrell), Liam has written children’s books after his baby girl, while Jeff (Sam Adegoke) is setting up ColbyCo’s new headquarters in Africa, specifically, Nigeria. Fallon had decided to rebrand her company Carrington United, much to the delight of her father.  Dominique (Michael Michele) and Alexis are both opening stores right across from each other on Bleecker Street in Manhattan, and it looks as if they will continue their ongoing catfights in the Big Apple. Kirby decides to move to London to be with Amanda.

And … in the ‘payback is a bitch’ column, we see Adam with an English accent working as a veterinarian … taking care of cats! The final moment of the series features a snapshot of the Carringtons during a family photo gathering.

So, what did you think of the season finale of ‘Dynasty’? Let us know in the comment section below. But, first watch a BTS moment with James Mackay and Liz Gillies singing a familiar tune on her Instagram, posted after last night’s finale aired.
