DYNASTY Reboot On The Way At The CW!

Huge news on Friday for longtime fans of the iconic 80’s primtime soap, Dynasty!  The CW has been developing a high-profile project, which is a reboot of the series to air next season.

The duo responsible for Gossip Girls, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage return to the network withh Dynasty, and have teamed with Revenge writer-producer Sallie Patrick and Dynasty original series creators, and Esther Shapiro & Richard Shapiro for the contemporary 2.0 version!

According to Deadline: The new Dynasty follows two of America’s wealthiest families, the Carringtons and the Colbys, as they feud for control over their fortune and their children. The series will be told primarily through the perspectives of two women at odds: Fallon Carrington, daughter of billionaire Blake Carrington, and her soon-to-be stepmother, Cristal, a Hispanic woman marrying into this WASP family and America’s most powerful class.  And there lies the spin on the premise of the original Dynasty, which focused on oil tycoon Blake Carrington (John Forsythe), whose daughter Fallon (Pamela Sue Martin) resents Blake’s much younger former secretary Krystle Jennings (Linda Evans), to whom he is about to get married. Cristal will be a version of the Krystle character in the CW version, while adding diversity in its approach.

Schwartz and Savage will executive produce though their Fake Empire banner alongside Patrick and the Shapiros. Patrick will serve as showrunner if the project moves forward. Fake Empire’s Lis Rowinski is as co-executive producer.

Soap fans remember the original Dynasty aired on ABC from 1981-89, and featured the scheming Alexis Carrington played by Joan Collins. It is unknown as this time if the reboot will utilize the character of Alexis.

So, what do you think of the upcoming soapy reboot? Who do you hope winds up in the cast and playing what role? Share your casting suggestions and your thoughts of the concept of Dynasty 2.0 in the comment section below!

Too early for my time, no nothing of it, but if it’s soapy I will tune in for look-see ..

I’ll give it a try. I loved the original DYNASTY.

Emma Samms as Alexis

There is ONLY ONE Alexis, and that is Joan Collins! If Alexis comes back it had better be Joan!

This is a reboot – not a continuation. Joan Collins, although still beautiful at 83, would be too old to play the first wife of a new (probably 50ish) Blake.

Emma would be a clever way to tie into original series. Joan could play a never-before seen mother of Alexis.

dude really? you must be joking.

This sounds interesting. I loved Dynasty. Not sure how I feel about covering the same ground as the original series from the perspective of Fallon and Krystle. I’d rather see where the families are now. But, I’m willing to give it a go. They have to include Alexis!!!!!!!!! She is a vital part of the story. I hope they get someone really good. It’s going to be hard to follow Joan Collins.

I agree. A revival would be more interesting with the next generation along with appearances by original cast members in their original roles.

put jack wagner in it and I’ll watch. if not forget it.

Not the cw…

I’m excited to check it out. I will admit that I never watched the original ( I was a little too young at that time ), but it sounds like it has a good line up of people in charge. I hope that it fares better than the Dallas reboot, which I absolutely loved and still can’t believe that they ended it the way that they did!

I absolutely loved TNT’s Dallas reboot too! I was very disappointed not only because it was cancelled way too soon, but also because it ended with a HUGE cliffhanger! A much better way would have been to have ended the TNT series with a 4 to 6 part miniseries finale, the same way that Dallas began with a 5 part miniseries on CBS.

By now, Fallon is a 60 year old woman. I would hope she is not still worried about her father’s love life!!

The original was classic. If this isn’t going to be a continuation of the original, just leave it alone. Create a new show and don’t even tie it into Dynasty. Also, 2.0 usually implies that you’re bringing over original cast and characters into the new show and mixing them up with new characters that might be related to the originals in some way. (Melrose Place 2.0, Dallas 2.0, 90210 – 2.0)

I was a HUGE fan of Dynasty! One who even held a Dynasty viewing party at one point. So I am excited to hear about this reboot. The curiosity factor alone will get me to tune in.

i agree with you…curiosity will get the better of me…nostalgia will most likely have me saying..uhuh

there was a lot i enjoyed with the dallas reboot..but this…mmmm…we’ll see premiere month…first few shows will tell.

Thanks, davlestev1! Curiosity and nostalgia are powerful forces — definitely for me! I can’t wait!

The more superficial, need-to-drop-out-for-a-while, part of me is tentatively looking forward to this reboot because I liked the original Dynasty, the more current Revenge, and even the last incarnation of Dallas if only to watch Judith Light.

But you can’t have Dynasty without Alexis!!! But I don’t know who can fill Joan Collins shoes (or hats) for this role. Or a Linda Evans or John Forsyth.

Robin Strasser could play Alexis but it would be better if Joan made a few appearances!

reread…guess they are starting it over with an all new cast so the probably want a much younger actress,,,

Loved Dallas 2.0 even more than the original! Wish they would give us Knots Landing 2.0

I agree. A Dynasty without Alexis is pointless.

Just fyi, for younger viewers Alexis didn’t appear until right at the end of the first season. She was wearing a hat with a veil covering her face, so we didn’t know it would Joan Collins until the veil was lifted up. at the time there were rumours that it would be Sophia Loren. with this reboot, they could be including her at a later date, like the mid-season final.

Reboots are really never good as the original but i will wait and see if this goes or not…

It’ll be tricky to capture the essence of the original but I hope they succeed. And, I hope they use a lot of the available stars from daytime soaps to gain a loyal following (if it’s well-written and produced).

I agree with you about casting available stars from daytime soaps..How about Robin Strasser as Alexis? Reboots usually are not as good but will watch and hopefully it will work.

The new Alexis would have to be in her 50’s. Daytime alumni who might be a good Alexis:
Emma Samms
Finola Hughes
Andrea Evans
Robin Mattson

wow – i watched the original dynasty and i loved it……….
just wish they would pick the story up 30 years later and go from there…………………jmo

Me too. I’m not happy that the the CW is changing the Krystle character to be hispanic. And although I loved the original Fallon (Pamela Sue Martin), making her the focus of the story is also offputting.

If there is not Alexis then why bother watching? It’s cat fights or nothing! 🙂

No-no-no— the original aired before the advent of reality television and the internet– in the 80’s we were happy to watch a show about the richest 1 percent– but now– seeing celebrities and the wealthy air their scandals and dirty laundry out there for all to see I don’t think a reboot Dynasty would be able to compete– there isn’t anything they could write that hasn’t been seen in real life– and no one has the appetite anymore to be the least bit interested in the lives of people who live so far from what real life is for most people– so a spoiled rich kid doesn’t like her new step mommy who is Hispanic — big deal, no drama there— Dynasty was a product of its generation– which has so long past– the Dallas reboot was mildly successful because it was more an continuation than a reboot- there were familiar faces as well as new ones– but this one is trying to re live the glory days of the 80’s while that is the trend right now– I don’t think it will last long should it even get to air.

I agree with Mary ~ the 80’s were their own time, a time that has come and gone, when everyone didn’t walk down the street looking down at their phones and everything wasn’t “on-line” and fashion seemed to dominate the scene (more than today’s more casual overall look) – sure, they could update things without any problem, but the whole premise of the show, which seemed to say “just look and see, money can’t really buy happiness” has been done to death. While continuing night time or on-line dramas may occasionally do all right, it doesn’t seem like a revisit to the Carrington clan would excite many.

Schwartz and Savage are definitely the team for this project but I think they should take the DALLAS approach and have the new DYNASTY be about the next generation of Carringtons and Colbys (Krystina, Danny, L.B., and Lauren) with Heather Locklear’s Sammi Jo and Joan Collins’ Alexis showing the younger set how things are done.

Might check this out, but not certain… would have rather have seen a next generation thing with Emma Samms Fallon as the “new” Alexis! The hispanic woman could have been Jeff’s (John James) new wife!

Would love to see Emma Samms in it.

Often the stepchild of Dallas, this show was so superior is writing, costumes, acting pool and of course camp

Liked the original . Not interested in re-boot .

Here, here!

Why would you try to recapture this ???? Leave it alone

Same with Dark Shadows…the original is a classic and despite its flaws!…the remakes were never as addictive…i did like the 1990 version but it was only half good…the 2004 pilot never aired but i seen clips of it…looked too much like a totally different show…The movie version with Johnny Depp had some good moments here and there but it lacked in the story department, some miscasting, and some not fully developed characters…Johnny Depp wore that stupid white makeup he wore in several other of his movies!!!…i still wouldnt mind a primetime version of Edge Of Night-the best mystery series ever but without Henry Slezar the shows brilliant writer i doubt it would work as well!!!

Nooooooo!
I loved original Dynasty…leave well enough alone!
That type of show ain’t going to make it in the 21st century!

Dallas came back on TNT and now Dynasty on CW? Those two networks know nothing about how to handle a former powerhouse. TNT moved Dallas around so much that the avid viewer could never find it! Don’t expect the show to survive. And without Alexis?

No thanks.

I question how good this could actually be. The original had a HUGE budget. I cannot imagine the Carrington mansion being as grande in this version. What about the show opening? That was one of its signatures too. Would that be the same? Would it still be in Denver? Gays are mainstream now, so how would you alter the Steven storyline to remain relevant, but interesting? Would Sammie Joe be Hispanic also?

I’m with the others in that this show should be a continuation, not a reboot.

I’m a super huge fan BUT I think it should not relive the original series but pick up years later like Dallas reboot did. There were several children plus Kristina Carrington. There’s only one Alexis and one Crystal. Not sure if this is something I wanna look at. It might not live up to the original.

Eva Longoria should be casted as one of the characters!
I watched Dynasty & for the reboot to be successful the producers have hire a very strong known cast!!! The original Dynasty had strong cast members & that’s exactly what u need if ur going to reboot a very strong show like Dynasty!!! Good Luck & I’ll be watching out for it!! Please don’t disappoint!!!

I also agree no bispanic as CrystL!!!!

No, no no. They are going in the wrong direction already. This is a classic case of what we African Americans and people of color feel is racial profiling. First of all, Dynasty never concentrated on race. The original Dynasty actually made us feel like we were in an America where everyone was even on the playing field, but they were in excsess of wealth and power. It actually made us especially a young middle classed African Amercian imagine how we would be if we were as wealthy as the 1 percent or that there was a posiibility that we could cross over, which I set out to do after being exposed to this show by my aunt. LOL So, Alexis better be on the show, but she should be the diversed character now. Maybe, played by Eva Longoria vs a sweet new young blonde, who has a mean streak and is ambitious sort of like the character Anika on Empire. Don’t change names either. Krystal Carrington should be played by Emily VanCamp. You start changing names and the original generation will be most upset before it even takes off. Then. You forget that the eighties kids are now the 40ish people of Dynasty! So you need a young girl like Billie Lourd to play Fallon. Come on wake up. Do you need me to write for you guys because I have plenty of ideas and material, as I am an aspiring RnB artist of the millennium.

Jacob Young Shares Production Pic of Cast of His New Film Featuring Joan Collins and Nadia Bjorlin

Last month, during a livestream conversation on the Michael Fairman Channel, while promoting Jason Cook’s film, Four for Fun, and featuring soap notables Jacob Young (ex-AJ, AMC, ex-Lucky, GH, ex-Rick, B&B) and Brytni Sarpy (Y&R), Young revealed some intel on his upcoming movie project.

Jacob shared that he was set to direct, produce and star in a Agatha Christie-like murder mystery feature film, Murder Between Friends shooting in Prague.

The actor/director expressed, “I’m flying at the end of the March to Prague to direct, produce and star in a film with Joan Collins (ex-Dynasty). Nadia Bjorlin (ex-Chloe, Days of our Lives) is in it, and Toby Alexander Smith from Eastenders (ex-Gray Atkins). Plus, a couple of my Broadway friends and a very well known Czech actress (Hana Vagnerova). It’s very ‘Knives Out’ without having a hundred million dollars to shoot it, but still will be a lovely film nonetheless.”

Young is currently shooting the film’s principal photography abroad through April 17th.

Over the weekend, Jacob took to his Instagram to share a photo with the cast of the film where pictured is former Dynasty star, Joan Collins (ex-Alexis) and former Days of our Lives star, Nadia Bjorlin (ex-Chloe). In addition, former All My Children star, Trent Garrett (ex-Asher) is seen in director-mode kneeling.

Trent and Jacob are both co-directors of Murder Between Friends Joan Collins shared the pic on her Instagram citing, “This was the #secret I posted about several weeks ago!”

So, looking forward to seeing Jacob’s film when it is released with Joan, Nadia, and company? Let us know in the comment section.

Elizabeth Gillies First Post-‘Dynasty’ Role Revealed; GH Alum Bryan Craig Also In Cast

Now that the CW’s Dynasty has come to its conclusion after five seasons, many have wondered what series star Elizabeth Gillies (ex-Fallon) will be seen in next.  Part of the answer was revealed today in casting news via Deadline.

Gillies will star and is the co-executive producer of a new Tubi film called Spread.  In it, Liz will take on the role of  ambitious and aspiring journalist, who lands a temp job at an adult magazine run by an aging industry king played by Harvey Keitel.  The character must reconcile her idealism as she strives to help the company succeed.

Spread is written by Buffy Charlet, who is another of the films Co-EP’s, and is inspired by Charlet’s real-life experience as a temp at Hustler magazine who rose in the ranks to become an editor.

The film also stars two-time Daytime Emmy winner Bryan Craig (ex-General Hospital, Good Trouble).

Look for Spread to drop on Tubi in 2023.

DYNASTY Series Finale: A ‘False Face’ Revealed!

After five seasons, the final episode of CW’s Dynasty came to its conclusion on Friday night, but not before it delivered another soapy trope – a use of a prosthetic mask (sound familiar Days of our Lives fans?) to hide someone’s true identify.

Here’s what went down: After majordomo Graham (Dan Amboyer) had kidnapped Adam (Sam Underwood), in a shocker, Graham peels off his face! Yup, it was a prosthetic mask and reveals himself to be none other than Steven Carrington (James Mackay)!

After being kept away by Adam for years (he had hidden Steven in a sanitarium and then the place burned down), Steven finally figured out it was Adam who was pulling the strings of his disappearance. Next, came an all-out brawl; where instead of an opportunity to inject Adam with a syringe of some sort of concoction as payback, he almost killed his scheming half-brother. However, Steven didn’t want be a murderer, so he let Adam live to see another day, but told Adam to exile himself from the Carringtons and never return.

With that, and now masked again, Graham meets up with Sam (Rafael de La Fuente) at the hotel bar, where he eventually pulls off his mask to reveal himself as Steven. Kudos to de La Fuente in those scenes who gave us all the feels as Sam is reunited with the man he loves.

Photo: CW

Still in another heart-tugger, Fallon (Elizabeth Gillies) comes upon a man sitting at the piano at the Carringtons, and when he turns around, she sees its her brother, Steven.  The two, in typical CW Dynasty-style, break into song.  It was touchingly played by series star, Gillies along with Mackay. Elsewhere, Alexis and Blake (Grant Show) are trouncing through a horrific storm trying to find Dex. Ultimately, Alexis (Elaine Hendrix) and Dex (Pej Vahdat) reunite, and when a softened Blake returns home, he and Crystal (Daniella Alonso) vow to stay together and cement it with a kiss.

In addition, Amanda (Eliza Bennett) gets a job offer to return to London from her ex-lover, which puts her relationship with Kirby (Maddison Brown) in question.  Culhane (Robert Christopher Riley) told Sam that he’ll be moving to LA and selling his part of the hotel business they have together before he marries Nina.  Sam doesn’t take that news well and tries to ensure no one else will take Culhane’s half of their business partnership, because he likes working with him so much.  Meanwhile, the surrogate, Stacey Moore (Samantha Massell), delivers Fallon and Liam’s (Adam Huber) baby and they welcome their little girl to the dysfunction of the Carrington clan.

Photo:

We are onto the final moments via a six-month time jump and the trajectory of the Carringtons and their extended family become known. Sam presides over Culhane’s wedding to Nina (Felisha Terrell), Liam has written children’s books after his baby girl, while Jeff (Sam Adegoke) is setting up ColbyCo’s new headquarters in Africa, specifically, Nigeria. Fallon had decided to rebrand her company Carrington United, much to the delight of her father.  Dominique (Michael Michele) and Alexis are both opening stores right across from each other on Bleecker Street in Manhattan, and it looks as if they will continue their ongoing catfights in the Big Apple. Kirby decides to move to London to be with Amanda.

Courtesy/CW

And … in the ‘payback is a bitch’ column, we see Adam with an English accent working as a veterinarian … taking care of cats! The final moment of the series features a snapshot of the Carringtons during a family photo gathering.

So, what did you think of the season finale of ‘Dynasty’? Let us know in the comment section below. But, first watch a BTS moment with James Mackay and Liz Gillies singing a familiar tune on her Instagram, posted after last night’s finale aired.
