GENERAL HOSPITAL: An Alexis Vehicular Manslaughter? Smug Nelle Visits Sonny, Thanksgiving At the Q's & Lante Say Their "I Do's"!

Courtesy/ABC

If you missed the Thanksgiving episode of General Hospital, you should catch it.

It was well-paced show with elements that pulled on the heartstrings, celebrated the meaning of family on this annual holiday, and packed quite the wallop with a few major cliffhangers that viewers will be left pondering for a long four days before GH returns on Monday, November 28th will all-new episodes and the pickup of where we left off!  The episode also featured some terrific performances.

As far as Thanksgiving dinners go at the Quartermaines, this time the crew, which was now Tracy (Jane Elliot), Monica (Leslie Charleson), Ned (Wally Kurth) and Robert Palmer Watkins (Dillon) although begrudgingly coming together for an anticipated Turkey Day disaster, think this time all went well when they sit down to eat their turkey dinner.  Problem is: Monica realizes that the turkey isn’t covered in brine, but Finn’s bacteria instead, because of a mix-up in the refrigerator!   She then grabs the pizza menu, and we are off to the races for another pizza Thanksgiving with the Q’s.  As they wait for the pizza delivery, they each say why they are thankful for the other.  When the pizza arrives, Tracy says something is missing. Then, Ned breaks into song, joined by the others to sing the traditional Quartermaine Thanksgiving tune, started by the late Edward.  In a touching moment, Ned puts a slice of pizza beside the photo of Edward and Lila on the mantel.

Sonny (Maurice Benard) is drinking and all alone on Thanksgiving.  He calls Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) to check in with him, and his grandson, Rocco.  Dante wants to stop by and see Sonny, but Sonny says no, but Dante continues to say that no matter what has happened they are family.

Then, Laura (Genie Francis) shows up at Sonny’s.  And the two have a heart-to-heart (as both are struggling this holiday with the loss of their sons); they share how all the good things in life just remind them of what they’re missing.  Laura came to see Sonny, because he was the only one who would understand what she is going through, since she misses Nikolas so much.  Laura urges Sonny to let the people who love him back into his life, and to not shut them out. After Laura leaves, Sonny continues to drink.

Carly (Laura Wright) forgot all about Thanksgiving due to her grieving the death of Morgan, but Jax (Ingo Rademacher), Josslyn (Eden McCoy), Nelle (Chloe Lanier) and Michael (Chad Duell) put a Thanksgiving together for her.   It’s sad for Carly who is thinking of Sonny and the death of her son, as Josslyn tells the group that Morgan gave her the courage to keep going and get back up, even if you falter.  After Olivia (Lisa LoCicero) stops by and is surprised Carly is not with Sonny, she makes an exit.  Jax and Carly hug at the front door and Nelle sees this, just as Carly’s phone is ringing, and it’s Sonny.  Nelle lets the call go to voicemail, where Sonny leaves his wife a tender message.  Next thing you know, scheming Nelle makes an exit and tells Michael there is someone she needs to go see.  Nelle beelines it for Sonny’s.  She sees the shape he is in from drinking and drops a bombshell on him; she saw Jax and Carly kiss!

Back at Dante and Lulu’s (Emme Rylan), they tell their guests that today is actually going to be there wedding day!  And wouldn’t you know?  Kevin (Jon Lindstrom) is there to officiate, and the mothers of the couple show up just in time: Laura and Olivia.  Dante and Lulu get gussied up for their vows, and Lante tie the knot for a second time!

Elsewhere on the outskirts of Port Charles, Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) is in full lush-mode at some dive bar.  She can’t stop drinking.  Julian tracks her down there.  However, Alexis is not pleased and reminds him of the restraining order she has against him.  Julian threatens to call Sam (Kelly Monaco) and throw Alexis under the bus for drinking.

Alexis then begs Julian not to.  She even grabs his hand, begging him to keep her drinking to just between them. When Julian seems to want to help Alexis as he notes her downward spiral, she throws his phone across the bar.  As he looks for a phone to borrow, Alexis makes a quick exit from the bar to get to her car.  Julian comes out and tells her she should not be driving.  She then locks herself in the car as he tries to get through to her. By now he is front of the vehicle, when Alexis thinks she put the car in reverse, but accelerates instead and runs Julian down!  The episode fades to black.

Great performances by Nancy Lee Grahn, Dominic Zamprogna, Maurice Benard, Laura Wright, Genie Francis, and more during this episode.

So, what did you think of Thanksgiving on GH 2016?   What do you think Nelle is up to?  What will Alexis do now that she has run down Julian?  Let’s not forget she previously, accidently, ran down Kristina’s abusive boyfriend, Kiefer!

Laura and Sunny… I am beyond cringing over the pity me stories..
Seems J&S are very depressed to write such sludge ..

Lulu and Dante = BLAH .. there is no redirecting them from the land of nod..

Alexes (a use to be a strong woman) is written into a slobby mess at the bottom of the pity pile.

The Quartermaines pizza thanksgiving, nothing cute about it, any longer..

I am desperate for a good mystery, a laugh, something new..

((are you listening gawds of Soaps?))

HAPPY THANKSGIVING To All !!
{{{{{{{{{{{{{{ group hug }}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

0ooh eat the goodies, desserts first! so you aren’t too full enjoy them ((they are the best part of the meal)))

Su0000…So agree with what you have said. Every so often they through us a bone, but the story goes nowhere.

I agree with you, Suooo.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving and avoid controversial subjects such as should one remove one’s shoes per the hosts’ request and what to do with the bathroom hand towels after using.

Laura and Sonny–Genie so touching and underplayed beautifully. Wonderful–and WAY too brief.
OMF–is THAT the only the only way the writers can get rid of Julian–have Alexis run him over??? Give me a break!

To Nancy–or give Alexis a brake!

Soooo true, SuzieQ……but, I get lost in Tracy. I am so into her; I wish she appeared in every scene.
And, Mrs. Kravits? Funny post. I love the humor….something we truly need on here and in everyday life.
But…..Instead of hand towels, I use disposable towels, I stick a post-it on the box, which reads: “Please do not flush, throw into trash bin”. LOL.

GH goes from worse to even worse. It is just painful to watch

Curaçao man…What a way to end before Thanksgiving with Alexis hitting Julian combined with all of her other problems. Especially painful just before the holiday season, and after all the emotions pro and con since the election. At least B&B and even Y&R took a day off and had nice celebrations with member of their families at the dinner table.

Don’t watch then, find something else to do with your time. Why would you continue watching a show you find painful to watch?

Because, Brian, hope springs eternal.

Good question Brian. I keep hoping for the new writers to start a fresh approach….something that will more often than not lift your spirits….a better balance between stories that can make you smile, or sigh, or even tear-up…mysteries, betrayals, and romance…as well as conflict and heartbreak…but not the steady diet of darker stories we’ve had lately.

So to answer your question about why continue to watch? I’m going to be an optimist and hope tptb at GH see enough of these comments on sites like MF, and maybe take them to heart when plotting out new stories. I’d like to think comments might have helped us see more Laura, Tracy, Ned, Kevin, Monica, and sometimes Jax, Robin, and Robert.

Great retort, Brian. But, we are merely opining. I am still very much interested in most of the stories and characters.
I thought that Alexis’ ‘accident’ was a fitting cliff-hanger. I doubt anyone gave it much thought on THANKSGIVING day, or any other holiday.
T’would be a sad day, if that were the case.

I disagree. Yes, curacaoman, some storylines go on forever until I am ready to scream. But, there are some storylines that intrigue me. I do not think this soap is ready to be put to rest….it still has plenty of life left.

Rumor is Vanessa Marcil will be back as Brenda Barrett. I hope this is true. GH is putting me to sleep. Terrible Storylines right now. GH needs to get better or it will be cancelled next year.

The episode had it’s moments. I thought the pizza slice by the picture was a realistic touch– I did the same on my mother’s birthday (she passed in Aug) and put a small plate of her usual birthday meal by her picture— but overall the whole Q running gag about having to order pizza felt like an afterthought this year– honestly who cannot tell the difference between bacteria and brine? It was the lamest reason yet as to why they cannot have turkey—but like every tradition it wouldn’t be Thanksgiving on GH without it but they can at least write a more intelligent story to go with it.

I think it drives Alexis crazy that she still loves the man who tried to kill her– so her drinking to forget and to bury those feelings is plausible — but not everyone who drinks heavily becomes addicted to it– so her longing looks at all the booze flowing at the Thanksgiving dinner took an complex issue and made it easy, she is drinking because she has a disease- she will hit rock bottom, realizes she needs help -go to rehab, and then be all better– and in real life it doesn’t always work out that tidy

I am weary of all these soap weddings that are done in people’s home with a “family friend” who just happens to be able to marry people doing the ceremony. Are soaps so cheap they cannot hire an extra for one day— at least it wasn’t Lucy this time

As for Nelle– I think she is aiming to take Carly’s place— she has all the makings of being the next totally off her rocker stalker—but it turns my stomach just thinking of Sonny taking this “girl woman” to bed—ewww

Nelle and Sonny hooking up? Give me another break!

Nell looks like a twelve year old.
And yes, Ned putting the pizza in front of the picture of Lila and Edward was sweet, but it’s sad that it’s come down to fleeting gestures rather than the writers giving viewers character driven stories which pay fidelity to the series’ history.

Yes, nancy. That would really be a sick move; DISGUSTO!!!!!

Not only do we not want that we also don’t want to see an oops i kissed and almost slept with my sister story either i.e. michael and nelle

Agreed with everything you said. Thank you!

MF said it, key word “Pace.” It was like a ballet, each scene intertwined, not cut short which is often annoying. Also, it was nice not to have Franco,Valentin and Jason on. But speaking of Jason, what a loser not being at the Q mansion for Thanksgiving! He and Dillon could bonded but he only interacts with Sam or Sonny now! Loser! But Monday should be good with nasty Nelle and “Wreckless Alexis!”

Telling it like it is…. thanks

especially, about Billy Miller’ Jason… BM ( assuming his contract has been renewed) wants to “act” this way. easy meal ticket. easy street for this one note

it’s gobsmacking… how he went from top of the world… even if he shared that TOP with Michael Muhney… and spiraled … to an afterthought. I no longer think he has it in him to feature… at least on GH… a stone cold lackey

I think it was … Mondays eps… @ the metro court… the scenes with Kiki and Nelle. I saw a burgeoning.. firepower.. between two young women… sparing… even coquettish … it was a blast to see Nelle… ACTING outside of Sonny and Carly… ISN”T THAT always the case… dang… get out of their orbit people… it’s so refreshing alive and cleansing. any way… watching these two young women connect was WOW and the sensations came alive… these women ACT.

forever and a day… Michael is so boring… ! dang it already… Nelle does not need to be saddled with him. PLEASE.. his tired smirks and facial expressionless.

lets go… MORE Valentin, Nina, and Charlotte…

I’m starting to get back in to the thought… that Griffin and Liz are next in line.

Billy Miller often has a look on his face which seems to say,”Why, oh why did I leave Y&R?” He’s terribly miscast as Jason and when he tries to play the stone cold tough guy, I just laugh.
Nell frequently looks at the camera as if she is sharing some joke with the viewers. The other day after Bobbie accosted her, Nell gets in the elevator, smirks and says while looking at the camera.”Well, that went well.” She does this often. I am going to start calling her Nelly Bueller.
And Nelly Bueller needs a day off, and another and another.

Yeah, Jason should have been there. His best scenes have been with “Monica” and “Laura.”

Billy Miller is a great actor…. he can go in every which way..
Billy is struggling with bad writing for the Jason character..
J&S keep twirling Billy/Jason to no real means, such a shame..
It is not Billy Miller it’s the writing of ‘this’ Jason ..

He is either Stone Cold Jason or Jake, or a mix of the two or a smi-new character.
I can see that Billy can’t find a true course to Jason’s identity.

I liked the Thanksgiving show, and truly hope Alexis gets some kind of help now that she’s hit rock bottom. (And hit Julian, too – literally with her car!) This might be a small point but I was wondering, where was Bobbie? Shouldn’t she have been at Carly’s for Thanksgiving? Maybe now since she’s back working at GH she was there but it was odd that there was no mention of her.

If Sonny has sex with Nell I will turn GH off. Yuck.

I know. Nobody wants to see that.

I would think the episode was sweet if it was…a different episode!

Sonny was alone and Dante felt terrible about that…so why didn’t they have it at Sonny’s once they knew he was under house arrest. Then….his father could actually be at his wedding! And, you’d think maybe Dante would ask Michael to stop by…if even for the few minutes it took to for the ceremony. Where was Olivia’s baby? She would never leave him on a holiday… Where is Max? Does Sonny not have security anymore? At the very least it would be Sonny, Diane and Max. Why would Lulu and Dante get married if Sonny and Michael couldn’t be there…

Carly lost her son…but Bobby wasn’t with her for Thanksgiving. Lucas has mysteriously vanished..not even at the funeral let alone Thanksgiving.

The Quartermaine’s? After killing them all off…there!s nothing Quartermaine’s left. I thought the writers would bring Jason back into the fold but he never interacts or mentions any of them. Monica never mentions him…just no emotional connection to each other or for me as a viewer. Everyone’s disconnected. I know they’re on a budget but for one day I think they could have splurged to have Skye and Brook Lynn visit; have Alice back.

As for Nell, I’ve said this before but her whispery voice drives me up a wall! I think, as I thought before, that somehow she’ll turn out to be Carly’s daughter and will seduce Sonny as Carly seduced her mother’s husband (Tony Jones) for the same reason…abandonment issues; resentment.

I was waiting for someone from Sonny’s family to arrive with some Thanksgiving dinner for her him.
Instead, all he gets is Lolita and she doesn’t even bring him any food.
All she had for Sonny as that creepy ass smile.

Lol…she’s a beautiful girl but as devious Nell “creepy ass smile” is spot on!

Tiresome to repeat history–and as embarrassing as when Sonny and Emily had a fling.
Say what??!!

Yes, Nancy. As bad as Sonny’s affair with Emily was, the prospect of his sleeping with the pubescent looking Nell is even worse.
I am praying it does not happen. Carly needs to listen to her mama

Rebecca…I agree with your comments. For me GH is a shadow of what it used to be. No joy, humor, adventure, romance, family legacy to speak of anymore. They don’t seem to know how to write about relationships anymore but depend on drama, trauma and crime all of the time with a revolving door of new actors and fragmented stories. Maybe it’s a symptom of our times. But at least B&B and Y&R had the members of the families together for mostly pleasant Thanksgiving meals and a day of truce.

Re:Nelle…maybe my benefit of the doubt that I had given her is starting to wear thin.

Lol.p, Rose…didn’t know you gave Nell the benefit! I couldn’t stand her from the beginning with that faux concern. (Objectively, she and michael look great together.)

Yes, I watched B&B. Now THAT was a Thanksgiving! Very soapy…on the one hand it’s all beautiful, elegant…very celebratory, warm ‘n fuzzy…and yet everyone in reality had an issue with one person or more at the table. Which…kinda shows how funny holidsys can be in some situations..it ‘s either war or…temporary truce!

GH Thanksgiving was morbid …

I went from watching GH thanksgiving to watching Y&R thanksgiving..
It was like day and night..
Y&R was actually a thanksgiving family day.
GH was a pile of junk/it was empty .

su, thanks for defending Billy Miller. He’s my favorite soap actor and I get so tired of reminding people that he doesn’t write his own lines and that the same “dull” quality has also affected Roger Howarth and Michelle Stafford. They can’t all be just “cashing in”. The show needs a major overhaul, starting with a major cast trim: Jordan, Andre, Nurse Amy, Aaron (is he even still on?), T. J., Nelle, Officer Valerie, probably more, all need to go. And since when was Steve Burton’s Jason the life of the party? Not as I remember it.

Officer Valerie can stay. Valerie and Amy are hardly on half the time. So why do they need to go. but then again we wouldn’t want to take away Sonny’s and Nelle’s airtime.

This episode was dreadful from start to finish. Yikes!

The general direction of this program is deeply troubling. These stories are bland and dull. As much as I love this show, I am in no rush to flip on the DVR to watch it. How much worse can it get? 🙁

The ultra-annoying and boring plot of pizza for Thanksgiving at the Quartermaines needs to be retired. It’s lifeless. The actors also seem to have grown tired of it. Please flush this nonsense in 2017.

I am worried about this show. How much longer can this once-glorious program survive with this awful writing? Sigh…

They need to first get rid of Frank V as Executive Producer and then get rid of these horrible head writers.
Until they get rid of Frank, GH will not be able to improve.
GH needs to take a page from Y&R.

Love your posts, Mrs. Kravitz. Are you both Harry and Addison? I am enjoying the posts, regardless.
Raise your glass!!

Hello, Mrs Kravitz!
I love your pun–“give Alexi a brake.”
Hope you had a wonderful thanksgiving.

The show, wasn’t so good..for Alexis running over Julian is,a good thing..it will lead to Alexis,or Julian having to go to Sam house..by order of the judge..Also Julian will found out that he’s gonna,be a grandfather again..I know it horrible he got ran over..but something should come out of this,storyline..I hoping for a better and more postive storyline for Julexis and Jasam

So many people here whining and complaining, I’m beyond sick of reading it. So much negativity. Every story Michael posts about GH, it’s the same negative comments over and over. You don’t like the show, don’t watch it, simple as that.

I loved the Thanksgiving episode. The Quartermaines getting pizza is honoring history. It’s tradition. Ned leaving a slice of pizza next to Edward and Lila’s picture was very touching. I don’t care how many years in a row they do it, wouldn’t be a GH Thanksgiving without The Quartermaines getting pizza.

Loved the scenes with Genie Francis and Maurice Benard, two all-time greats getting to share some rare screen time together. The wedding of Dante and Lulu was a nice surprise and very well done. For the people that say GH is all doom and gloom, this was far from it. And then Alexis running over Julian was a good cliffhanger for Monday.

This show had a little of something for everyone, and yet all I’m reading is mostly complaints. I don’t get it, what more do you want?

I agree Dan — it’s depressing to read the boards sometimes. Of course, people can post whatever they want. But if you dislike the show that much, and can’t find anything good to say about it, why watch? And why spend time going online to write about it? I liked some of Ron’s writing but, in the end, for me, it was a lot of flash and no substance. Ridiculously short scenes, quick cutaways and some poorly developed/ dumb stories (my beloved Heather became a cartoon character…and I haven’t been able to eat pickles or BLT’s for years now). Compare that to the scenes that Jean and Shelly have written around Morgan’s death — the power of the script is not only in shocking the viewer but in allowing characters to react so that we all feel the full impact. The new writers go for depth and I appreciate that. Another positive: I am a huge fan of Genie Francis and I credit Jean and Shelly for the storyline and the rich dialogue that she’s been given over these past months. The show is far from perfect but there is so much that I enjoy about it — that’s why I tune in.

It sounds like they are about to be giving the character of Bobbie more screen time and for that I give kudus to this writing team.

Compared to Days, GH is winning with me because it contains some comic relief in the characters of Franco and Finn. Tracy is always good for some laughs as well.

I thought the storyline about the brine vs. bacteria was cute. I didn’t feel disappointed. I would have been disappointed if there was nothing wrong with the turkey. I’m glad the character of Tracy acknowledged there are so few Quartermaines remaining. I won’t hold my breath but it would be nice if that was some foreshadowing of some more Quartermaines coming to the screen next year.

I liked Laura being briefly reunited with Sonny. I liked Kevin and Laura being together at Lulu’s house for Thanksgiving.

Dan I usually agree with your comments and I’m usually “complaining” about complainers as well. But as nice as each little vignette might have been…the show barely features anyone interacting with anyone.

They bring Jason back…he’s never once asked about his brother AJ, he never visits Monica, he isn’t featured with Michael whom he was close to, the few times Spinelli has been back there’s none of that endearing friendship they had.

Jason and Sam talked about moving…are they leaving the show? Either way, why would he move away from his other son, little Jake? That didn’t even enter the conversation.

They are still dropping characters from sight…are we not supposed to notice that Lucas wasn’t at Morgan’s funeral? Hasn’t been shown since he denounced his father?

It really is a mess. I never called for cutting the cast…and hearing it described as “bloated” drives me up a wall but seriously, either write characters off so we know not to expect to see them…or use more of a revolving door and keep featuring everyone when it makes sense him or her to be there..Lucas, case in point. And, don’t bring Jason back, hint that he!s going to be different…build on it…and then have him ignore his Quartermaine side again.

I feel like I’m watching a variety show or an awards show where I’m happy to see “who will be on.” LOL..ooh! Ned’s going to be on for two days! Ooh! Lucy is back for a few! Ooh! I think I spotted Ephinany at the nurse’s station…wait..there goes Dr.O!

Dan, I couldn’t agree with you more, but like Celia said, we often opine over such things like Jason or Nina simply because we expect more from these pros. The writing sucks BUT, as I said about the Thanksgiving show was it was like a ballet, so smooth and entertaining. AND if the Q’s wouldn’t had pizza, some people would have complained about that! You cannot win!

we are all avid posters and viewers who staunchly defend our shows and call a turkey a turkey. Complaining and having an audible and reputable place to do it is welcomed relief. Believe they know what is being said on MF’s website. Sitting back and just taking the crap forced on you never gets you anywhere. So VOICES BE HEARD!!!

What davlestev1said. (Lol…was that “turkey a turkey” a double entendre for Thanksgiving? Ha…good one!)

I am ready for some switch up on GH. I will always love show.

I think that Morgan is alive and a recast will head back in next few months. I hope so. I think that Carly and Sonny need to break up and move on. Love Ingot back as Jax. Carly and Jax are an interesting couple. There is a greater chemistry with Laura Wright and Ingo R.

I want Robin to have an in depth return .to help Sonny grieve and pull back up. I think Olivia is a great friend with Sonny – depending if Wally Kurth comes on contract – another try at love with kids from BensonHurst. now I love Ned and Olivia. if GH ever brings on Wally full time – I would definitely vote for Ned and Olivia. if that doesn’t come to fruition.Olivia and Sonny can make a beautiful couple. Sonny would need to go heavy back into mob work. But to make mob work. GH needs to find a way to bring Steve Burton as AQ or the real Jason. I love Billy Miller but he needs to be Jake. Give this talented man a story – that does not require Miller pretending to be Burton’s version of *Jason.

it would be esp interesting to have Morgan resurrect with Sonny and Jason back in “coffee” export business

Hi Patrick…wanted you to know I replied to u about three times when u wrote to Rose and I…regarding orange man…but they didn’t post. Hope you’re doing well.

As for wicked Nell, lol, I can’t stand her! I want to protect Michael from HER…not the other way around! She’s obnoxious!

, n

Love this Rebecca person!

Archie…

Any scene with Genie is a treat — loved her visit/conversation with Sonny. I agree with Michael that it was a well paced episode with very different storylines — it was an entertaining hour.

Yea, good show but I just read that Brenda is coming back. This should give Carly fever! 🙂

Let me get this straight: Alexis hits Julian with her vehicle. Then, moments later (or whatever), Alexis rushes to Julian’s side and says, “JULIAN…WAKE UP, WAKE UP”!!!!! H-U-H?!?!?!?!?! OK…you know what: This is further proof that Alexis is nothing but AN EMBARRASSMENT AND A WHINY TRAIN-WRECK!!!!! ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey jaybird…Alexis didn’t hit Julian on purpose. Because she was drunk she thought she put the car in reverse…then stepped on the gas. It was an accident…that’s why she was so upset and called 911.
