GENERAL HOSPITAL: Anna and Duke "Reconnect", A Julian Double-Cross, Franco Seeks Advice From Heather!

Wednesday’s episode of ABC’s General Hospital brought with it some interesting developments and moments.  But nothing topped the “reunion” of Anna Devane and her late love Duke Lavery in heart-tugging scenes played to perfection by the incomparable Finola Hughes and Ian Buchanan.

It begins when Anna is left in a freezer on the pier, and knocked out thanks to on-the loose Carlos (Jeffrey Vincent Parise), and it is in her dire straits that she envisions seeing Duke.  In their moments together for the first time in a year, Anna tells Duke her sorrow, her anger, and what she did to Carlos because of his death.  She feels like she failed him, in that she wanted to bring his murderer to justice.

Later, Anna reveals to Duke she met his son, the son he never knew he had.  When Anna fills in Duke about Griffin (Matt Cohen), Duke is touched and overcome.  From the subtlety and emotional beats played, it reminded longtime viewers of just how Finola and Ian, dear friends in real life, created a one-of-a-kind on-screen chemistry.  Finally, Duke tells Anna she has the strength to get back up, and when Duke vanishes form her conscious, Anna wakes up.  She then realizes she is stuck in a very isolated, cold place!

Meanwhile, Carlos who is on the pier calls Julian (William deVry) for help.  He needs him to help him get out of town and get to Sabrina (Teresa Castillo) and their baby.  Carlos tells Julian if he gets caught, he will have to flip on him which would bring his world crumbling down.  As Julian prepares to meet Carlos he grabs his gun, but Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) enters their home with two police officers who want to search the premises for Carlos.   Alexis is getting upset with Julian and sees the gun box.  He puts the gun back to appease her, but when she is not looking grabs the dagger Helena left to Natasha (Alexis)!  Later, Carlos, who has been hiding in the waters of the pier, hears Julian who has come to meet him.  Julian hands him cash, but then asks for hug, and then comes the double-cross!  The mobster stabs Carlos!   And let’s just say here and now:  kudos to Jeffrey Vincent Parise for making the wackiness, the desperation, and violent parts of Carlos, and his on the run situations, so palpable.

The episode also brought back Robin Mattson as crazy Heather Webber.  Franco (Roger Howarth) has come to visit his mother fearing that he is turning back to a dark place since the tumor was removed from his brain, and stemming from the fact that he and Nina (Michelle Stafford) broke up!  He asks his mother for advice, and her advice is …to go big and get between the sheets, if he wants Nina back.

There was also a major wake-up for Alexis and to snap her into reality when her ex-lover, and town mob boss, Sonny (Maurice Benard) came to see her to tell her that she needs to realize that right now that either Julian is helping Carlos out of town, or killing him.

What did you think about the Anna and Duke scenes played by Hughes and Buchanan?  Do you think Julian finally rid the world of Carlos once and for all?  Did you get a kick out of seeing Heather Webber back on your screens? Share your thoughts in the comment section below, but first watch a tender and emotional moment between Anna and Duke below!

The Duke and Anna scenes just make me want more. This is how DnA should have been treated all along: like the supercouple that they are. Bring Duke back and let him get to know his son!

Please allow me to co-sign your post!!!!!

Yes please! Beautiful scenes.

Why bring Carlos back, only to kill him again!!?? So stupid..Alexis and Anna were my iconic favorite leading ladies but these writers have just made them poor little flowers dropping peddles and folding their tents

The whole Franco/Nina storyline is just pointless..I though Ms Stafford was a great actor, boy was I wrong!! Her portrayal of Nina is boring and robotic at best..

Robin Mattson was the highlight of this boring episode.

GH…PLEASE get some new writers..I am on the verge of tuning out!! After 35 years of viewing!! I am been watching since I was 12, and this is the worse I have seen GH been!!

..

GO HEATHER !!!! 🙂

( Heather & Franco , finally some scenes I won’t be FF….
AND! I won’t fall asleep – IF they are written as they should be written / dark crazy drama!

AGREE AGREE AGREE.

Heather wants a baby. I’m sure this will end well!!!! GET ME MORE HEATHER.

Oh, and make Nurse Amy Franco’s sister. After Heather was a nurse once

Best part-seeing both Duke and Heather-but not having Duke alive and Anna telling him he has a son(or daughter-lol) was major disappointing because Duke really isnt there-and telling his’spirit’ about Griffen seems totally pointless-funny how Robin isnt around to do her miracle job of bringing Duke back to life?…enough with these murders and the criminal goes unpunished-send Julian away or dont make him a killer…and with all that happens down at the docks you would think there would be security cameras and a regular police foot patrol down there!!!

Yes, jimh…..Wednesday’s show was a true contrast in the sublime and the ridiculous, the former being the ever-exquisite Anna and her Duke, plus, always arcane, yet highly-amusing Heather, whilst the latter remained that constantly nauseating Nina and annoying Alexis. (Exactly what will it take to see less of these two revolting women? Really….) At least Ian Buchanan finally received the swansong that his character so richly deserved….and Robin Mattson’s very welcome return appearance most definitely lead one to wonder what upcoming caper might be on her agenda? She seemed to respond in a most negative fashion to the mention of Liesl….could Dr. O. be her next target? That would be some dust-up if those two ladies were to tangle as GH’s next formidable foes!

If Heather wants revenge on Lisel-let Heather knock off her niece Nina-PLEASE!!11

Oooh…that would be TRULY sublime, jimh! And if Nina refuses to reunite with Franco as he wishes, that would serve as another great motive for Heather to stifle this useless character…nobody rejects her boy without Big Mama Webber getting her revenge!

I COMPLETELY agree about those docks, ALSO, WHY haven’t people learned to not talk OUT LOUD when they have a secret!!!

OMG ARE YOU CORRECT….RIGHT ON…..ITS A JOKE THAT EVERY CRIME SCENE OR ANYONE THAT WANTS TO HIDE GOES TO THE DOCKS!!!! AND NOT ONLY DOES EVERYONE TALK OUT LOUD, THERE IS ALWAYS SOMEONE OVERHEARING THEM…I KNOW ITS A SOAP, BUT THIS GETS TO BE TOO MUCH~~~~

HAHAHAHA!!! SOOOO true!

I was thinking that’s the ONE loophole they have if they ever want to bring Duke back to life…making him a dream instead of a ghost. Although, much as I love Duke, he was still rather emotionless. Ian seemed like he was doing a dress rehearsal…no body language…and if he said “it doesn’t matter we’re together now” one more time…lol…I kept wondering if he forgot his lines and used that same phrase for filler.

The Anna and Duke scenes were wonderful. Two amazing actors at the top of their game. Finola Hughes is perfection. Her talent, beauty and brains make her the sexiest actress in all of daytime.

Sick to death with Duke anything — it was overkill and now I don’t care if they both croak..
Alexis and Julian are OK— I like Julian action way over Alexis anything.

2 thumbs up — Carlos and Julian action and throw is Sonny for the good stuff..

2 thumbs down — Anna and Duke ZZZZzzzzzzzZZZZZZ.

4 thumbs up — Heather and Franco (hope I am not disappointed again will a big fail)

BTW; Anna has been destroyed, not good for my future viewing of Anna nope..

Su…Still can’t figure why you even bother to watch GH. It never seems to come up to your standards. Maybe your a closet optimist in your own way.

I agree Rose, its like going to eat at the Olive Garden every night for dinner and hating Italian food!

Hi Rose..
I watch for Sonny, Julian, Franco, Ava, Finn, Tracy, just for my favs
I also watch to see just how much worse J&S can become..
I sigh at the lame of even the horribly bad holds its’ kicks to see LOL ..
And– I need to see leadup of the firing of J&S .. lol

there was time that I never FF.. Now I FF through all the lame stuff if I’m still awake… Hate nodding out and missing Carlos .. but while FF I see the frames and know when to stop to see the good stuff ..

I gave Julian and Alexis an OK..
I gave Carlos and Julian action and throw is Sonny 2 thumbs up.
I gave Heather and Franco 4 thumbs up
and Duke & Anna a ZzzzzZZZZZ !
that was my post..
it was quite mild 🙂 and up to standards ,, 🙂

Su..you’re going to love today’s Julian and Carlos on Pier 54. No snooze time…guaranteed. And by the way I like all of you favs as well, but Sonny only sometimes…too much attitude and crimes with no consequences. Add Carlos.

Now we are back to disagreeing, su0000–Julian and Alexis, an OK? NOT! And is the actor playing Julian leaving? He looks constipated and downtrodden! How can they keep a murderer? (I didn’t say that, did I? Oh well, just a rhetorical question! They keep ALL murderers, don’t they? LOL!

I haven’t even seen the ep… and i’m crying

NICE READ

“Duke is touched and overcome. From the subtlety and emotional beats played, it reminded longtime viewers of just how Finola and Ian, dear friends in real life, created a one-of-a-kind on-screen chemistry. ”

I miss him, I miss them

dang it… he’s a handsome man… and yes… the love magic & STIR of Duke and Anna

I will be pissed if Carlos dies… we at least need to see Carlos and Sabrina w/child.

I can truly see why fans… are just over the mob king pins…. will Sonny and Julian get away , I mean… go away

just saying… Carlos isn’t the end all or be all… but… when a character is brought on… for the sake of giving Sonny and Julian.. feature… at the expense of fans who get to liking certain character actors who shine … and dim the king pin

like any other soap… GH falters and glows brightly

Apropos of nothing: Stop the presses–we now have a bona fide PRIEST on the show–and he is Duke’s son–Hallelujah and AMEN! Someone with a conscience is now a main character on the show! How will the show survive (sarcasm, yes!) THAT”S exactly how it CAN survive. Yes? Oh, YES! 🙂

Ditto Nancy. Ditto.

Loved seeing Anna and Duke together again. It seems both Anna and a Jason entered The Twilight Zone to find the strength and inspiration to “get up.” But what a waste that the previous regime had Duke killed off. When are writers going to stop this with other characters as well?

Ahh, Julian and Alexis. Ironic Julian who put out the hit on Duke is doing what Duke wished he hadn’t done…trading happiness for ego. And Alexis…love and need can be blind for just so long…some just can’t change their stripes. And then Julian using Helena’s parting gift and curse to Alexis to do the deed to Carlos. Operatic explosion coming I think! And as much as Carlos is slime, wish there was a way to keep Vincent as part of the story…he’s such a good actor.

I hope we see more of Mommy Dearest. The scenes with Heather and Franco were “fun,” and also a little frightening when you figure the chaos power between the two of them.

All in all I liked today’s episode.

best part was Heather and Carlos.. I’m over Duke and Anna, I couldn’t careless what they do because I find them boring now and if I never see or hear his name again it would be too soon. The writers have made me hate this pair. And I need a break from Anna now.

No Heather–EVER again! And Franco can go away also. Just bring RH back as another character–it’s NOT like you haven’t done so already!! 🙂

Having Julian go full on bad guy was the best most compelling thing I’ve ever seen him Do. Breathed new life into the character. I loved Heather Webber being a mother to her son. Humanizing scene. Heather is best to me when she is a written a flawed human being not just wacko. Anna and Duke was heartbreaking.

Loved the Anna and Duke scenes. It was wonderful seeing Ian Buchanan again and another reminder of how much they really screwed up killing off Duke. Finola Hughes is such an amazing actress, the chemistry she has had with both her leading men over the years, Tristan and Ian, has been such a pleasure to watch.

It’s always fun seeing Heather Webber on screen again. Robin Mattson brings the crazy every time. I just hope they don’t have Heather break out of jail for the 800th time.

I honestly hope Carlos is dead this time. Jeffrey Vincent Parise did a good job in the role, but I’m so over that whole thing. I like them giving Julian his dark side back, he was so boring taking candle lit bubble baths with Alexis. But I also hope they don’t let him go unpunished. There has to be a pay off down the road where a character like Julian that has done so much wrong gets what he has coming to him.

IF they want Jeffrey Vincent Parise back he should shave and get a haircut and be a good guy and twin brother of Carlos! They did it with Alcazar!

GREAT IDEA….

Ehhhh, they could go do that, but it’s been done many times before on this show. Luis and Lorenzo Alcazar, Manny Ruiz and then the actor came back as his identical twin brother, a priest. Heck, go all the way back to Kevin Collins and his evil twin brother Ryan.

Carlos had a good run on the show, more than most villains get, but I’d be fine if we never saw him again. That’s no disrespect to Jeffrey Vincent Parise, who was very good in the role. I just think it’s time to move on.

I like it! And make HIM a priest also. 🙂

Hate being critical of my GH but here goes,

I do like Franco and Nina but their storyline does suck.
Love Duke too but having him as a ghost pointless.
Love Anna but whoever choreagraphed her fight scene should take a note from the prime time women like Peggy carter or the women from agents of shield.
Carlos the weasel getting stabbed by Julian the weasel priceless, let this be over and done with already it’s dragged on forever. Dukes been dead for a year already so let Carlos finally be gone.

“Ghost Duke” is a way to appease the fans and admit they should have NEVER killed him off! He is not alive but the writers want to use a scene where he finds out he has a son even though he is dead! A big time ripoff!

As I mentioned above I think Duke was meant to be in Anna’s mind…which is good in case they ever choose to bring Duke back. Can’t explain away a ghost but if he’s just in her mind…

Well well, looks like the iic saw Star wars. .now Julian is as evil as Sonny. The way things are going Carlos was the only one left I wanted to watch. He coul;d be funny, he was bad, but on this show who cares. The actor brought it, and now he is dead, in the drink.what a waste. Julian is now a cold blooded killer also. Does this mean Alexis will be angry ???? She should fall off her high horse.

Duke and Anna the actors are great. The characters have no room to talk. both are evil . We are suppose to feel sorry for Anna because Duke died. Sorry not me. HE WAS PUTTING A HIT ON A COP. he ran the mob for Scummy.

I didn’t think this show could get any worse, but it did.I still say they are trying to ruin the show so they can say we tried you didn’t watch.cancelled.

I watched this at the gym, from a distance, and saw the cold blooded killing , but did not hear the words. Guess robin will save Anna.

I love that Julian killed Carlos. I didnt care for him. [The actor is very good!] Julian kills Carlos to save his ASS and does Anna and Paul a weird favor! Speaking of Anna. what a cheap, cheap set of her lying in a freezer “Freezing!” It was great to see Ian as Duke but its such a sad reminder that he should have never been killed off!

Heather and Franco are gold! Goes to show you, even though the character of Franco sucks, put him with the right characters and he is good!

That “gold” tarnished a long, l-o-n-g time ago!

Heather is great in small doses! Roger is great but I NEVER like Freako!

I enjoyed this episode for the most part.

It was a treat to see Duke again; maybe bittersweet would be a better word since he is dead. But I appreciated getting to see Anna and Duke together one more time. How many us of who have lost a partner wish for that one last conversation? It was touching. Since soaps are partly escapism/fantasy, I disagree with those who felt the scenes were pointless. (See my reason mentioned above.)

It was also a treat to see Heather again. RM always brings such life to the screen. The rationale for Franco going to see his estranged mother was a real stretch, but I was willing to swallow it in order to see these two in scenes again. And I think Heather’s advice to Franco is spot on to move him forward in a real Franco kind of way; birds of a “Heather” and all that.

Julian and Alexis’ happiness sure didn’t last long. Soap marriages are enough to make anyone reconsider marriage. LOL! I do think she is more intelligent than to let him continue lying to her and get away with it. Julian’s world will blow up in his face soon, I suspect.

And as soon as I saw the Pier 54 set and Carlos on it, I knew what was going to happen. OMG@ I agree with those who asked about cameras and foot patrols, but then they’d have to build another set for all the bad things to take place. LOL! I’m just over dumping bodies into the water. JP is a captivating actor and so intense that I really wanted to watch every scene he was in; it’s so layered. He’ll probably show up again soon ~ that will make me do an eye roll ~ and I’ll dumb myself down just to see JP back in action.

GH is hit and miss a lot in the last few months. Here’s hoping they have a lot more “hits” than “misses” in short order!

Rod…I’m with you on all counts. It used to be everyone bumped into each other at Kelly’s…sometimes Pier 54. Now it seems the other way around. Which may explain why there’s been more emphasis on the mob and it’s ripple effects.

I loved Kelly’s–and its atmosphere. And remember when everyone met at the Floating Rib? It’s SHRUNK a lot, hasn’t it?

GH has developed this really bad habit of killing people twice — AJ, Duke, Carlos. In each case it has felt pointless and gratuitous.

AND the audience never comes around to agree with the Twice Killed writing. Ever.

What are they thinking in the writers room? ‘i have a great idea, you know what never works? Killing someone, bringing them back and killing them again!’ (Everyone nods in agreement.) Sooooooo, let’s do that!

Grandma Heather… please make this a Christmas Card

Tomas…’Grandma Heather’…LOVE IT!!!!! LOL!!!!!

Its lazy writing and then they return from the dead and were supposed to get excited!

This was a much better episode than Monday’s tiresome homage to the wonderfulness (LOL) of Jason “Mighty Mouse” Morgan. Passanante and Altman should just stop taking pages from the Bob Guza text book of bad soap writing.

You got that right!

I would love to see a Quartermaine-centric Jason Morgan this time around but something tells me that isn’t going to happen. I would love for these writers to prove me wrong.

Just 30 seconds of Duke and Anna in that clip has me in tears. Such wonderful actors and such transcendent chemistry. Ruining Duke and then killing him off were two of he biggest blunders by this blunder-filled GH regime. For me, absolutely unforgivable!

Bring back Ian Buchanan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I co-sign 100%, 1,000%, whatever the biggest number in the universe is, lol! Robin saw Anna and Robert as ghosts back in 1995 when the Stone AIDS story was going on, and they ended up still being alive. So just because we saw Duke as a ghost doesn’t mean they can’t come up with a story to bring him back, if they really wanted to. One of the biggest casting blunders since the previous regime fired Stuart Damon and killed off Alan Quartermaine.

I enjoyed seeing Duke back w/ Anna. Thank you to the writers for making it an entire episode not just a quick glimpse. GH is very fortunate to have the character of Anna on canvas. If any of the PTB at GH are reading…please keep giving the character a good story. Thanks!

Wow — Anna told a figment of her imagination that he had a son with a woman off-camera and he was a dad after all. That extra hour of Good Morning America is looking more and more like a reality if GH keeps serving up episodes like this one and Monday’s…

Top Daytime Emmy Awards (Drama, Actor, Supporting Actor, Younger Actor, Directing) prove that GH is the best but only when Ron is writing the scenes and story-lines. Guess ABC is embarrassed now. Don’t ruin this show!

General Hospital has been on fire all week. I have loved every episode from Mon to Thurs and found them all very entertaining. They are having the best week by far out of the remaining soaps.

They need to get some new writers, stat. I thought Jill Farren Phelps was the worst thing to happen to this show. . . I was wrong!

Message to the “new” writers: 1975 called, they want their story lines back. . .

Can you say boring??? What a snore fest!

I agree with you completely Spivey about the writing……. I know Ron Carlivati had his detractors but I can honestly say that even at his absolute worst — I was always interested and I tuned in everyday. I’m getting to the point now where I can barely finish the episodes. Every single story falls completely flat for me personally. Things that would usually sound great on paper, come off extremely lackluster.

I think they should BRING DUKE BACK. He’s the only match for Anna. She will never love anyone like she loves Duke. They’re a circle.

General Hospital’s Adam J. Harrington Weighs-in On John and Carly, and How it’s ‘Starting to Get Very Complicated”

On recent episodes of General Hospital, Carly (Laura Wright) came to John “Jagger” Cates (Adam Harrington) rescue as he was beaten down in an assault. Carly put on her “nurses cap,” sort of speak, and got John to his hotel room and watched over to him, to make sure he didn’t lose consciousness.

GH fans also got their first glimpse of what may be a new romance for Carly, if she and John continue to bond.  If John and Carly were to have a relationship, it would certainly have a ripple effect with Jason (Steve Burton) and Sonny (Maurice Benard).

Adam J. Harrington shared his view on the scenes and what might be next between the two. Speaking to Soap Opera Digest, Harrington shared, “I thought it was written in a way where there’s an understanding and a respect between them both. I don’t think there was any moment where she was not aware that he’s an FBI agent, and there was no moment that he wasn’t aware of her history and relationship to other people in the town. I really liked it. I was really looking forward to shooting it with Laura and we had a really nice time shooting it.”

Photo: ABC

When Carly and John part ways, it seems there were some romantic sparks, as Harrington puts it, “Isn’t that interesting that sometimes with people, the one moment they actually show how they feel is when they know there’s an escape hatch. They know they’re about to walk away. So, it’s almost safe in that moment to do it. I thought that was really special about how (the writers) handled John and Carly. Even the music in that scene was beautifully done.”

Where is this all heading? Conflict! Internally and professionally, and as Adam explains, “Who Carly was to John on paper as just a tool to be used as bait is starting to get very complicated.”

What would you think of a John and Carly pairing? Would you prefer him with Anna, or neither of them? Let us know via the comment section and take our poll below.

General Hospital’s Steve Burton Reveals the Emotional Scene He Almost Could Not Get Through

On a recent episode of General Hospital, Jason received a message from his mother, Monica Quartermaine (Leslie Charleson) via a note. The effect it had on Jason’s portrayer, Steve Burton turned out to be quite visceral.

As GH fans know, although Jason’s bio-mom was Susan Moore, he was raised and adopted by Monica. Speaking on his Daily Drama podcast with his co-host and GH co-star, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli), Steve shared some insight on the difficulties he had getting through that scene.

Burton shared that in the key moment, “Brooklyn (played by Amanda Setton) came in and that’s where she gave me (Jason) the letter from Monica. That was a very hard scene for me to do. That was a tough one. That was the one time I was almost going to call ‘cut!’  It read ‘Jason, I believe in you.’ I was literally going to walk off the set.”

Photo: JPI

To clarify and in the story, Monica was saying “I believe in you” and that she knows Jason didn’t shoot Dante (Dominic Zamprogna). Steve added, “It was tough, man. Emotionally, it was a tough scene. It was overwhelming in the moment.”

Steve went on to detail to Anderson, “She (Brook Lynn) pushed it to me and I read it and she was walking out and I had to stop her, but I was so emotional I couldn’t even get it out.  And at that point, I’m like, ‘Do I just keep going … or do I just walk off the set right now?’ But, I knew just to stay, because it’s so hard to get back there, once you shut it down. I knew, the next take wasn’t going to be the same.”

Photo: JPI

It’s clear that Leslie Charleson is so missed on-screen as Monica by all of her castmates, and that Jason and Monica had a very special mother/son relationship throughout the decades on GH.

What did you think of the moment when Jason got a note from Monica that said, “I believe in you?” Were you touched as well? Let us know in the comment section. You can check out the latest episode of Steve and Bradford’s podcast below.

George Russo to Appear on General Hospital as Carmine Cerullo

Coming up, it looks like Brook Lynn’s (Amanda Setton) grandfather, Carmine Cerullo is headed to Port Charles.

According to casting news from the ABC soap opera, George Russo will take on the role. Russo will tape his episode next week on April 15th and will appear on the May 15th episode of the long-running daytime drama series.

If George looks familiar he has been in numerous primetime television shows and motion pictures including: The Offer. Winning Time, Grand Crew and Shameless.

Photo: ABC

Longtime GH viewers will recall that Lois’ (Rena Sofer) dad, Carmine, was previously showed up in Port Charles on and off from 1994 to 1996 and was played by John Capudice.

Clearly, it seems that Carmine will be a part of Chase (Josh Swickard) and Brook Lynn’s wedding.  Will it go off without a hitch? Are you looking forward to it? Stay tuned.

Who else would you like to see attend the nuptials? Gloria Cerullo (Ellen Travolta), any other blasts from the pasts who should be present? Let us know in the comment section.
