General Hospital Casting Leading Man! Who Would You Suggest For The Part?

Courtesy/ABC

Courtesy/ABC

A major casting call has gone out from General Hospital! In it, it details that the ABC soap opera is looking for a “Bonafide leading man.”

Further details of the casting notice relate, GH is looking for an actor who is caucasian, 32-37, very sexy, dynamic and charismatic.

Acording to Soap Opera Digest, the role would start shooting in November, and it’s a contract role for a new leading gent.

When this casting news hit the Twitterverse today, some fans are tweeting that this may actually be a casting notice for a possible replacement for the character of Patrick Drake played by the incomporable Jason Thompson.  It has been rumored via Daytime Confidential that Thompson would be up for contract negotiations this time of year.  Should the GH star decide not to re-up his deal with the series, it would be a tremendous loss for the soap, who needs to give this perennial Daytime Emmy nominee, story worthy of his talents.

So, on face value of the casting call, if this is a new leading man/character, what actor would you like to see come to Port Charles and join the cast that fits the bill?  Share your suggestions in the comment section below!

Given the abundance of youngish male characters on GH, I hope that this new guy is a doctor per the new writers’ promise to re-center the stories around the hospital. With or without Jason Thompson, we need another doctor on staff. Perhaps someone to help Elizabeth pick up the pieces when she’s blown to smithereens for her deception– poor Elizabeth doesn’t seem to be able to do anything without a man by her side.

Definitely James Hyde (Ex-Sam Bennett, Passions

    • Mary

      October 16, 2015 at 5:31 am

James Hyde was born in 1962; that makes him 53 years old. GH is looking for an actor 32-37 years old.

    • DYLAN

      October 16, 2015 at 9:51 am

He is WELL beyond the 32-37 age range. He was that age 16 years ago when the late NON-lamented Passions premiered.

He is gorgeous. Not the strongest acting skills but he’s is awesome eye candy, even for 50. Haha.

No replacement please, if an actor is leaving let the character go to, we need time in between replacement, as for another Caucasian chapter, WHY? can’t they concentrate on who they have? Give and Asian or Hispanic or African American actor a chance to be a leading mem. These shows never progress how disappointing..

I hear you Aria. Too bad these soap bosses won’t go out there way to hire more talented minority actors. They’re still living in the past. I started watching soaps on and off during the 80’s and frankly nothing has changed. Daytime will never catch up with Prime time in the casting department.

Last month Ute was posted a African American actor came in and tested for a role. It sounded like he was hired

Sexy and charismatic 30 something male-that whole description leaves me out…lol…it would be difficult to recast JT as Patrick…Guy Wilson needs a job…ok, im joking there…if JT does leave for whatever reason why recast…let him leave and reunite with Robin but if he stays i hope this casting call ends…seriously, this show needs another newbie like i need another hole in my head and there is no more room for yet another hole…lol

When you’re right, you’re right, jimh!!!! And you are RIGHT! By the way, just wanted to let you know that next weekend the new CBS digital channel, “Decades,” is running a “Dark Shadows” marathon. They call it a “Decades Binge.” There is a different classic show featured every week. Check your listings! (Mine is on a CBS affiliate as .2 channel….)

        October 18, 2015 at 3:11 pm

I never miss it…the show had some serious flaws here and there but DS was so cool they were easily over looked…i was a member of its fan club for 30 years and one of my plotline suggestions was printed in their fan magazine…i also had dolls made of several characters and i also made a diorama of Collinwood living room!

      • Shay

        October 28, 2015 at 12:58 am

Well, jimh, I took a looky at the DS “Binge” over this past weekend. Even though I had seen the odd episode before when this show ran in reruns after the school day in the ’80’s, I wanted to watch a few in a block. They were interesting, to say the least! Lots of very familiar faces from later soaps who apparently got their start in Collinwood!!!! Part two of the marathon continues this upcoming weekend……perhaps I’ll tune in for another peek!

Let particular go find Robin if it’s JASON that’s leaving !

    • Fanny

      October 16, 2015 at 3:05 am

Robin would certainly justify his leaving the show…They can dedicate
their lives to helping those in need. Leave Emma behind to be raised
      by Anna.

Michael Park. Name him Craig and pair him with Ava. We can call them Crava…cause I’ve been craving that pairing again since ATWT left the air.

      October 15, 2015 at 6:39 pm

I totally agree. MP is definitely a leading man.

    • James R. Poissant

      October 15, 2015 at 9:01 pm

Michael park is a good choice but so isn’t Hunt Block now that we’re on the subject of naming the new character Craig.

      • Michael

        October 16, 2015 at 7:09 am

Michael Park is now in his 40’s to early 50’s. He’s not that young anymore. So, he wouldn’t work. Jeff Branson (ex-Nina’s long lost son on Y&R)! He would fit the bill easily.

      • Justin

        October 16, 2015 at 10:28 am

My favorite Craig, especially when he called Barbara… Bar-Bar!

Trevor St John or Michael Muhney would be my first choices! But maybe they are both too old for this. Tom Pelphrey (from Guiding Light) would be good too. They just need a good actor for sure.

    • Anthony

      October 15, 2015 at 6:21 pm

Brian – I’m with you on Trevor St John. Early 40s, but he can pass for younger. Otherwise make the character a little older, but get St John!!

      • bonnie

        October 16, 2015 at 10:19 am

I was also thinking Trevor but he us out of tbe age range

    • Timmm

      October 16, 2015 at 9:28 am

Muhney would make an evil Dr. Drake!

      • Harry

        October 16, 2015 at 9:57 pm

Wait, I am under the impression that they are NOT recasting the character of Dr Patrick Drake. Nor should they.
From what I understand from this blog and other various soap forums, they are merely looking for a new leading man who happens to be white and in his mid to late thirties.
Correct me if I am wrong but it seems to me that they are not recasting Patrick Drake.

      • Timmm

        October 19, 2015 at 7:24 am

@Harry. Jason has expressed disinterest in the writing of Patrick and his contract is set to expire. No rumors, but speculation. It may be just ABC casting in case Jason walks or it could be a whole new character?

      October 16, 2015 at 10:22 am

      Michael Muhney all the way

      • MBmomof3

        October 17, 2015 at 10:43 am

I was one of Michael Muhney’s critics at the time of his firing because I’ve been in Hunter King’s shoes as a young woman in the workplace. That said, he’s done his mea culpa and he’s a damn good actor. It’s time for him to return to soaps and GH is the only existing daytime drama that is possibility IMO.

MBMom, what’s this? A fair, sensible and balanced opinion? How dare you!

Can’t be Michael Muhney. There are too many young twentysomething blondes on this show and he could not resist the temptation.

        October 18, 2015 at 4:42 pm

I can appreciate what you are saying. I still get those idiotic, He-man catcalls/comments…..since I was thirteen. Nonetheless that does not mean all men do that. I never judged Michael Muhney because I was not there. Wouldn’t we have heard from other ingenues, or women? We will never know…..I have given him the benefit of the doubt.

      • MBmomof3

        October 19, 2015 at 10:45 am

CeeCee, there were other reports of it. That is why he was fired from “Veronica Mars”. I’m comfortable that evidence suggests something seriously inappropriate happened enough for him to lose his job on Y&R. I don’t want or need the details. I think he paid the price for his behavior and hope he learned his lesson. Moving forward.

“Other Reports” from Hollywood trash sites that make up garbage for gullible fans to eat up. Michael Muhney would give GH the boost it so desperately needs. Great actor, right time. Bring him back now!

    October 15, 2015 at 2:47 pm

Jason Thompson has been nothing more then wallpaper on this show lately I think this is to pressure him into resigning ever since KM/Robin left this show they have acted like they did not know what to do with him one terrible love interest after another. I am one of those viewers that was never that crazy about the pairing with KM. when he came on the show he was this hot stud doctor he needed a pairing with an actress/character that put some heat into a relationship . We had bossy Robin then we had Brit the meanie then we had Sabrina and now Sam who talks about her dead husband in bed with Patrick how thrilling for him.

    • Cathy

      October 15, 2015 at 8:43 pm

Robin and Patrick were amazing together and his other pairing failed. Kimberly and Jason had a naturalness. No one can compare to Scrubs. They got a show for their popularity. That’s why his other pairing don’t work. Robin wasn’t bossy if you watched and she and Patrick were on level ground with intellect unlike his pairing with the dumb Nurse and now the dumb mobby wife. Sorry but the trmendous loss for the soap was Kimberly McCullough a vet. GH never recover from losing her check ratings and then trying to destroy Robin with FV and RC pathetic writing while trying to pimp Robin’s family with the dumb nurse and the dumb mobby wife now. Run Jason Thompson run. If you were smart you would leave but I think this is a bargaining thing and you will stay and be pimped with another forced pairing. And by the way there is ONLY ONE ROBIN that is KMc . GH is the worst soap.

    • clh

      October 16, 2015 at 7:34 am

The show did a huge injustice to JT when Kimberly left again for the umpteenth time, by not recasting Robin. The writers only want to write for the Robin half and Kimberly has no interest in being there except for a very short stint every couple of years when she has nothing better to do.

I am happy she is doing what she wants but it’s not fair to the fans to leave the character (and her show family) in boring limbo when she’s not available. Recast and give Patrick, Emma, Anna, etc a real story.

      • k/kay

        October 16, 2015 at 4:15 pm

Time to move on which I think JT is going to do as for the character of Jason we are fighting over this I am not impressed never was over on nothing to see here except Sam and her cleavage and Luz wringing her hands! yawn

    My vote goes to-
    Michael Muhney ..
    he can bring it!

I thought ‘Paul’ to be the new handsome leading man ..

Whomever; he best not put me to sleep..
GH the past week has been horrible.

Sonny being portrayed as Bapu/ Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi/Gandhi=Great Father (of wisdom and love)
and his ”3 Sons” <- lol get it?.. listening to his looooong love speech with their arms holding each other professing their love in an overly sappy campy way, made me puke!
It was a sappy campy Love-In and NOT GH !
no action, nothing interesting or intriguing just a boring love fest.

So- whomever is to be the new Love Guru of GH better bring intrigue and ready to play with Gandhi Corinthos.

Y&R landed Michael E. Knight so its GH’s turn to land Michael Muhney! Hopefully they dont waste him like Billy Miller!

      • su0000

        October 16, 2015 at 12:58 pm

        hey Timmm..
Michael E. Knight’s character is not involved with the Newmans or Abbots, and he is not related/connected to them.
Most likely he will be back burned and out sooner than later..
With Y&R, if one is not connected to the Abbots or Newman’s they don’t last.
that is what I have noticed, dunno..

I would luv to have Michael Muhney with GH 🙂

      • Harry

        October 17, 2015 at 4:29 pm

SUoo, Dr Neville (MEK) is not connected to the Newmans and Abbots, YET!
I could see him possibly hooking up with Ashely. I could also see him being employed to bring Kelly back to the land of the living thus bringing back MEK with his former online love, CM, formerly Dixie of AMC to his Tad of AMC.
Remember, we never really saw her lifeless body after Jack fled the island and jumped on that ship of drugs.
That said, I thought MEK was absolutely terrific the other day as Dr Neville.
Incidentally, do you not find it interesting that MEK seems to be playing Dr David Hayward, his former AMC nemesis?

        October 24, 2015 at 6:12 am

People complain when GH is too mob centered…and now… it’s too sappy…

Soaps were built on family, friendships, romance. In an interview, that’s what the new duo said they’re going to try and bring back. Not as the only focus, but at least, a return go it. I like it. I hate that Michael’s returned full force to Sonny, but if makes perfect sense for Sonny’s children…by the way,,,where is Christina?…to be rallying around him, to he devastated, worried, etc. That’s what families do….

In the same vein, they’re building a nucleus with Franco, Nina and Kiki. Love them too. Franco and Kiki never lost the bond they built when they found out they weren’t father and daughter. Again, mAkes perfectly sense that Franco would
in when Kiki needed him most. It solidifies Franco’s capacity to love…and sets up the family if Kiki should be revealed to be Nina’s daughter.

As for Alexis, I love how she gave Julian back his son. It takes a strong, confident woman to reveal and accept that the man she loves, the father of her daughter, now shares a child and thus a bond with another woman. And so….more family ties.

They’ll be enough crime, manipulation and mobbing to balance it out…stop yer frettin’! Lol

It’s hard to believe they’d be casting a new role, right? We don’t need more characters–and the “leads” are JT and Billy Miller. Has Miller signed a new contract? I haven’t seen that he has.

    • Fanny

      October 16, 2015 at 3:14 am

I read his contract is good through mid 2016, with a “timeout” in

However, I hope it will be someone closer to forty, rather than his early thirties. her age. If Dr. Drake and Sam are to remain a couple, then, I think he should, at least, look the same age, yes?

LOL, CeeCee…..Your hubby….that’s cute! How about Casper Van Dien, just because he’s Casper Van Dien??? (He’s in his forties, but still very youthful! He probably wouldn’t do daytime…been there, done that years ago on OLTL….and he is now a director and action film actor, but he’d still get my vote!) By the way, quick fact about him….he traces his lineage back to the Dutch settlers of New York, too, CeeCeeGirl! Perchance are you related???? (Just had to ask….hope you don’t mind!)

      • CeeCee

        October 17, 2015 at 11:31 am

        Hi, ShayShay,
Oh, my gosh, Shay. I love Casper!!!!! I didn’t mention him because ‘they’ asked for a certain age group. But, you’re right, ShayGirl. Casper is out-o-this-world beautiful, as the Dutch are wont to be. LOL.
HaHa, Shay. Well, my husband fits the bill. H’s in his early thirties, and he’s a doctor, sooooo…….
Casper could pass as one of my brothers with those brilliant blues and chiseled, masculine jawline.
No, sweetie, I do not mind you asking. We will have to research his ancestry. I am a descendant of the Van Aardens. One never knows.
Many of my ancestors migrated to Toronto and beyond. My paternal grandmother is the most avid researcher. She was born in Holland. I shall ask. Later.

      • Shay

        October 18, 2015 at 3:30 am

Hey, CeeCeeGirl! What’s NOT to love????? (Casper VERY much reminds me of my first beau…..and let’s just say that he definitely “set the template” for my eternal love of beautiful blond boys and leave it at that!) As for those brothers of yours….are they available? I’ll take them both….LOL. At any rate, even though I generally do not follow “celebrities,”—much like yourself—I do make the exception when someone catches my eye, so I have done a bit of research on Mr. Van Dien! I do know that his family was prominent in the Ridgewood, New Jersey area because he grew up there on Van Dien Avenue, which was named for his great, great grandfather. How cool is that? Just one clue for your gran to follow in hopes of discovering a familial tie! Good luck in that endeavor….maybe you can invite Casper to your next reunion! (Needless to say, I shall also expect an invitation for bringing this possible long-lost family member to your attention!) Later!

Hey, Harry. How’s it going to. Lol. I said exactly the same thing about Dixie and Tad a few days ago. I would love to see that happening….together again!!

      • CeeCee

        October 18, 2015 at 7:19 pm

        @Shay.
        You make me smile, Shay.
LOL, I have 2 brothers. One is married. The other is not quite twenty. But, they are the Nordic-type of men you love so much. Additionally, the cross between Norse, Scottish and Dutch blood turned them into semi-Giants; unfortunately, I am the shortest of the girls.LOL.
My grootmoeder ( grandmother) so far found that Casper is not a full-blooded Scandinavian….there’s quite a mix there….. A lot more than mine. The first known Van Aarden apparently crossed over in 1637, while the Van Diens crossed between 1654-1660. So, their paths must have crossed at some point. My grandmother’s father was born in NYC and at 18 he decided to go to the Netherlands to find a bride, with his parents’s blessings. That’s why my grandmother was born there. The little family returned to NYC after a few years. My grandfather ( her husband), however, is of Norwegian descent.
If you take a good look at all the fair, blond-haired, blue-eyed actors on the soaps, past and present, you can easily spot the Scandinavians. The women are harder to discern.
By the way, my husband’s uncle lives in Ridgewood, New Jersey…..quite an affluent area.
Modern technology is amazing, albeit sometimes we may find out stuff in our ancestry that’s not too appetizing. LOL. Good Night, cara.

      • Shay

        October 18, 2015 at 10:46 pm

@CeeCee….Oh, I am so glad you found my post….I accidentally sent it to myself! (My bad…..been crazybusy lately and a bit distracted. That’s what I get for multi-multi-multi tasking!) Of course, I was only jesting about your brothers, although they do sound absolutely sublime….LOL. As for Casper….yes, he is quite the blend of ethnic delights-Swedish, French, English and Native American—the alchemy certainly worked in his favor! (By the way, did you know that dating back generations every firstborn son was named Casper???? The current one followed suit and named his boy likewise, but has said that he wouldn’t press the most recent “Cappy” to adhere to that tradition….) My word….I certainly didn’t expect your “grootmoeder” to put an ancestral trace on our dear Mr. Van Dien so quickly! Please tell her I said thank you for satisfying my curiosity….she sounds like an amazing and very well-versed woman. (Must run in the family……you obviously take after her!) At any rate, perhaps she will eventually discover a later blood link to our mutual favorite of an actor….if so, I still stand by that “invitation request.” However, if not, at least perhaps you can locate “Van Dien Avenue” next time you visit Jude’s uncle’s home in Ridgewood! That would be interesting! Later, mia amica!

      • CeeCee

        October 19, 2015 at 9:13 am

        @Shay.
Lol and oh my gosh, Shay. My grandmother and cohorts have this genealogical network going. This group will look up anyone’s ancestry. My grandmother actually traced my mother-in-law’s ancestors back to the Grimaldis of Genoa. There may be a correlation there with the principality of Monaco. This is how these sweet ladies pass their time.
I can tell you that, as you know, it was a Norseman, Leif Eriksson, who first set foot on North American soil. ( Newfoundland). It is been an on-going ‘feud’ between me and Jude’s grandfather….you know, Shay; Columbus? Now, there’s another story. Some Italian historians are declaring that Colombo was Cristoforo’s step-father’s name. Columbus’s legal name actually being Pellegrino. Later, cara.

      • CeeCee

        October 19, 2015 at 5:29 pm

      • Shay

        October 22, 2015 at 3:18 am

Well, at least that’s an interesting and intellectually stimulating activity in which these ladies engage….sure beats knitting!!!! LOL. I’m quite sure they have uncovered some truly fascinating information…..like that your little princess, “Rosalba” may actually have a royal lineage leading to Monaco. Perhaps you should rethink her Halloween costume……although the “ladybug” does sound absolutely adorable! As for your “feud” with the grandfather-in-law? Too funny! (Yes, Leif Erikkson made it to North America first, but St. Brendan and/or other Celtics may have even bested him.) Having said that, if that bit of information gets him going, I can only imagine how that old myth that Columbus spread syphilis to the “New World” must make him incandescent with anger. (It’s been more reliably speculated that it’s just as probable to be the other way around….his crew was infected here and carried the disease back to Europe!) In other words, Columbus—or Pellegrino– definitely discovered something on these shores, even if isn’t what we were told in our youth. Okay, that’s enough for today’s history lesson, boys and girls….Later, CeeCeeGirl!

        October 22, 2015 at 9:12 am

        @Shay.
        Hey, Shay, and Lol.
The ancestry of Monaco’s ( which translates to ‘Monk’) ‘royal house’, is not so pristine……sort of like Napoleon Bonaparte when he crowned himself ‘Emperor’. Ha! That’s why I said previously that we never know what skeletons are in our closets.
Amazing how my Dutch grandmother is soooo different from Nanna, my Scottish Gran. She’s a spitfire….an avid soap watcher, who, just about, criticizes , or finds fault with every single character…..she has everyone in stitches. I can’t even repeat some of the stuff that comes out of her mouth. Nonetheless, she has been into soaps since they were first broadcast on the radio.
The weird thing is, she loves Victor Newman. She says, “That’s a real man….he’s like a sturdy tree trunk….can’t shake him”. Just the opposite of myself, Shay. I do not like Victor and his dark tactics. Oh, yeah, she likes the young guys too……she loves Nathan. Then, my grandfather chimes in, berating her for her “lust”, at her age!… LOL….. @CeeCee….Yes, sadly Monaco’s royal family is a relatively tarnished bunch with a very dubious history….then again, find one which is not! (They do have an impressive $1 billion fortune…second only to the royals of the tiny principality of Liechtenstein!) The sleazy stories and skeletons from hundreds of years back from the regal courts of old Europe continue to be revealed to this day….such interesting reading! Most have extremely unsavory secrets yet to be told….a precursor to the modern-day soap opera! Now I understand why you appreciate my sense of humor….you were weaned on that particular type of amusing critique at your gran’s knee….how I would love to be a fly on the wall when she lets loose on her shows and all those involved….the lady sounds like a real corker!!!!! Rather not unlike Violet Crawley, Dowager Countess of Grantham on “Downton Abbey!” Now that is one woman I’d love to adopt as a grandmother! There is nothing she won’t say if it needs to be said! (She would probably be moderated more than the two of us put together if she posted here….LOL!)

Oh, yes, Shay, you have pegged my Gran right on the mark. Violet Crawley and she could be two peas in a pod, to the root. Lol.

Me, too, CeeCeeGirl! I suspect we would get along famously! I absolutely adore women like Violet. At their age, they’ve seen and heard it all—even if they haven’t actually done it—and have absolutely no reluctance about stating their no-holds-barred opinions….what a hoot! How lucky you are to have such a wonderful character for a gran! May you enjoy many more years of her wit and wisdom!

    October 15, 2015 at 6:02 pm

I will start with the positive. I really like the scripts since the new writers took over. There is more depth to them and the characters full conversations play out on screen (instead of so much take place off screen when Ron was the head writer). I also think the dialogue is far more interesting and intelligent.

With that being said, I thought I read where the writers said they wouldn’t be brining in new characters and cast members. It seems to me that there are a few coming. I realize this one could be a replacement for Jason Thompson (I’d be very disappointed if he left). If he was leaving I’d prefer they have him and Emma leave to go be with Robin instead of a recast.

So I’d say a mixed review for GH since the new writers took over. It is still only the beginning so we shall see where things go.

    • su0000

      October 15, 2015 at 7:04 pm

      lol David..

GH is horrible S&J are turning it into an ordinary sappy soap/boring.
GH has always been out of the box and not a traditional soap, it was like no other soap, it stood alone in its’ being, it was unique..
J&S are making it as every other soap that is sappy campy overkill on the love stuff,
It’s been like a really bad Harlequin campy story.
      again-
GH the past weeks has been horrible.
Sonny being portrayed as Gandhi= Great Father (of wisdom and love) LOL
and his ”3 Sons” <- lol get it?.. his sons listening puppy faced to his looooong love speech arm in arm holding each other in love and harmony professing their love for eachother and Sonny in an overly sappy campy way, made me puke!I
Those are the Corinthos for cryin out loud not the Cleaver family !

So- whomever is to be the new Love Guru of GH better be ready to take on Gandhi Corinthos.

I'd like TSJ or MM .. they are older but the best choice for GH ..

      • David

        October 16, 2015 at 6:26 am

And every other soap was doing better ratings. Ron’s writing was causing record lows. I know your mad that your idle Ron is gone but get over it. The show is far better now without him.

    • Timmm

      October 16, 2015 at 9:33 am

      • su0000

        October 16, 2015 at 12:51 pm

        hey David,,
Ron’s writing brought in 3 million viewers !!
        until;
they put all aside to write Tony/Luke out..
His exit put everything on hold and went on and on and that is when the ratings went down, not before.
It was Fluke/Luke that tumbled it down and it was not only Ron’s fault, there was much involved with Tony’s exit.
Ron had the ratings way up, until then.

Chris McKenna. The guy is freaking gorgeous. Can’t believe Y&R was stupid enough to write him off.

    • Michael

      October 16, 2015 at 7:23 am

Yes, that was a huge mistake by Y&R. They should have paired him with a recently out of the closet Kevin (Greg Rikkart). But apparently, Y&R doesn’t want to do a gay storyline right now.

      • CeeCee

        October 17, 2015 at 12:21 pm

Be that as it may, Michael. I don’t think TPTB want Kevin to be gay, at this point.
I do agree with you, though. Y&R SHOULD introduce a gay storyline. Add some realism to soap life…..how could there NOT be gays living in Genoa City? I don’t ever remember any gays as part of this community.
Did I miss something? Was Harding supposedly hiding in the closet? Why the Harding/Fisher hook-up?

      • Harry

        October 17, 2015 at 4:33 pm

Cee Cee is right. TPTB really do not seem to want Kevin to be happy.

      • Michael

        October 18, 2015 at 1:42 am

CeeCee, What are you asking about Harding? Are you asking if he was a closeted gay man or was he hiding in the closet at the Abbott cabin so that no one would catch him there? There were quite a few rumblings going on from fans that wanted a Harding/Fisher romance, but it just wasn’t meant to be.

      • CeeCee

        October 19, 2015 at 2:42 pm

Oh, okay, thanks, Michael. I was not aware of those ‘rumblings’. Now, I understand…I was a little confused. Yet, I question said rumblings, since any sign that Harding was gay went right over my head. I guess it’s moot now. Later.

  23. Layla Kalich

    October 15, 2015 at 7:03 pm

Casting a new male lead when this year alone we have gotten rid of so many great actors. I am talking great acting not so much the roles that they had portray. If you can still kill your scenes with Ron’s crazy as writing then kudos to you.
So we lost Sean Blakemore, who of course played Shawn. Yes I know he is just in prison so there is still a chance he will come back. But with no writers, Jake remembering who he is, I highly doubt they will bring him back. Sean is a lovely guy and a great actor.
Ian Buchanan who is a GH legacy actor. He has been around forever. The writing was all over the place with him. I think his scenes became horrible because they were just so far fetched. I know this is a soap opera so things aren’t always going to mirror reality, but come on that was some bad writing for a guy that was on the show for a very long time.
Jeffrey VIncent Praise, was such a wonderful character that took away from just Sonny dominating the mob scene. His scenes with everyone were brilliant. He has been in many other things and is also a really great actor . Why we let him go again is beyond me.
Everyones favorite Michael Easton. Another actor that literally blew you away with whatever scenes he was in. He tried to make even the worse writing work. I still wonder what the motive behind them letting him go is. Why he was never put back on the front burner. He is beyond a fan favorite. I know GH lost many viewers over this one.
Finally I know Robb Derringer as Kyle Sloane wasn’t a role that everyone liked. I think they took a role that could of been really great and couldn’t quite make their minds up about it. The writing was also so all over the place. Robb killed it in my opinon in all his scenes and did well with the poor writing. Had there never been a recast, one that wasn’t even warranted then I think the role of Sloane wouldn’t of been hated so much. There was so much more left to do with Sloane that never really was played out. Why they very very briefly mentioned problems Sloane had before he came to Port Charles with the whole Faison thing and then never even touched on them is beyond me. So much all over the place writing. But again Robb is another actor that would of done well with a contract and a long term role.
So here we are anyway…Another new person that we will see constantly for a week and then not at all because GH has some many characters there is never time to show everyone..We see glimpses of even Ryan Carnes now when he should be shown more often. I am not going to be one of those people that says I am going to stop watching, but it all gets a bit frustrating when they are constantly bringing new people when they don’t have time to write for everyone else. I can see if Jason Thompson is leaving, then yeah they sort of need a doctor. If not then I just can’t see the need to bring another contract role in.

    • Harry

      October 15, 2015 at 11:04 pm

What are they doing to GH? It seems almost willful.

    • Samantha

      October 15, 2015 at 11:06 pm

Great insight, Layla! Yep — to everything you said. Crazy times at GH. And although all those actors are great that you mentioned, I really would love to see Robb Derringer return and stay. Loved him!!! (And they could easily create new material to get his character back on track in a good way, or could have him play a totally new character, such as his twin brother. The writers left the door open for his return when they didn’t show what happened to him after he was shot. As I mentioned in a comment below, they could bring him back as his twin who’s out for vengeance — or maybe someone saved him and he’s back as a changed man… So many possibilities for this wonderfully talented and handsome actor! (P.S. — I will be really ticked if they bring back Sloane and recast him. I would like the original Sloane to return.)

      • Layla Kalich

        October 25, 2015 at 8:33 pm

I don’t think GH recognizes his talent. To let him go the first time was dumb and there was no reason for it. They had him back and to just let him get shot was beyond dumb. Especially since he was supposed to be a special agent. Was he so blinded and drunk by love that he spilled the beans to the last person that he should of? I have no clue but looking forward to whatever Robb does next.

Great post. I’ve heard before that when new writers come in they like to create new characters. Its like a new offensive coordinator on a football team. He wants his players and his plays. Same with head writers. Plus, I hear they get paid more if the create a new popular character?

      • CeeCee

        October 18, 2015 at 3:50 am

It’s a logical move, right, Timmm? I liken it to a woman marrying a divorced man and coming into his and the ex’s house. The new bride wants to make the house her own, yes? ……new furnishings, new everything. And, of course, new babies. That’s what the new characters represent….the new writers’s creation. Makes sense.

If they are committed to a Caucasian actor, Blake Hood could be good. If they would go for a bit older actor, how about Hunt Block who once plated Craig Montgomery on ATWT. If they would go with a black actor, I’d vote for Lawrence Saint-Victor from B&B. He’s talented, super hot & criminally under-used on his current show.

    • Michael

      October 16, 2015 at 7:31 am

Yes, Blake Hood! Granted, I think he’s still in his 20’s, but I think with the right make up, he can play for early to mid 30’s. Y&R letting him go as Kyle Abbott was a colossal mistake!

The fact they are requesting a Caucasian indicates most likely it is a recast or a family member of an existing character, where to have a non-Caucasian would be difficult or impossible to explain. (Though Blair’s racial makeup on OLTL did change when Kassie DePaiva took over!) I don’t think Michael Muhney, James Scott or Trevor St. John have any interest in soaps at the moment. Shawn Christian is a decade too old. So are Michael Park and Cameron Mathison. My choice would be Mark Lawson (Brody from OLTL). Everyone on GH seems so hard-edged and nasty. How about a leading man who has a heart of gold and softer edges? Lawson does that well.

      October 15, 2015 at 10:58 pm

Yes! I agree! 🙂 And Robb Derringer fits that description to me — and they could easily “fix” the Sloane character or create a new one (his twin?). This guy can act — and has already had scenes with hints at a heart of gold and softer edges. 🙂

LOL @ racial make-up. Kassie DePaiva is the ultimate recast queen. Blair was originally a short annoying Asian woman. Then tall blonde Southern Kassie took over and owned it for 18 years. Eve on Days was originally a short annoying part British woman. Then tall Southern Kassie took over and just recently started owning the role. Sad she is leaving, but Eve is kind of a peripheral character. Funny trivia…Kassie is two years older than the woman who played Eve’s mother way back in the day, Karen Moncrieff.

Funny you should mention Mark Lawson, sonniorsolita. I thought of him, in Patrick Drake mode, since I assume that’s whose shoes he would be filling. However, I stopped short. So, please forgive the coincidental pun (lol), he really is too short for this particular role, albeit he is really good looking. Many an actor has been turned down due to his height. Perhaps as another character?

    “wow” this is big

    Jason Thompson; no more

it would not… surprise me at all

really… he hasn’t had any thing… to do… since his single days before Robin… and after Robin

and thats no disrespect to Jason Thompson

they just never wrote “anything” for him

this is sad, if this is what transpires

    • DYLAN

      October 16, 2015 at 10:17 am

It is sad but the character has not been relevant for some time. He has been an appendage first to Sabrina then to Sam. They made the character (and Anna and everyone else in town) look like morons. No one asks or inquires or wonders how Robin is doing. Really?!? When Kimberly left, they could have told any number of REAL heartfelt stories. This is a woman with HIV who has been kidnapped and tortured continually for 4 years! What a disgusting story!! All this outrage over Will being murdered on DAYS…and nary a word about this!! It is a cruel, sadistic, and totally unnecessary story point that needs to be addressed. I never wish unemployment on anyone, but they need Patrick and Anna to storm whatever lab Robin is in, rescue her, and Patrick and Robin reunite and leave town. Jason T. will have no trouble finding work and he deserves better than GH.

      • CeeCee

        October 18, 2015 at 4:50 am

Well said. But, Dylan, isn’t this the story of GH’s life? Leaving everything open? All the stitching left undone? And, when TPTB do make an attempting at sewing things up, a rush-job ensues leaving gaps hither and yon. As much as I am jubilant about seeing the end of Fluke, I still ponder about the point of it all? All the inconsistencies; the stupid subterfuge; the idiotic play-on-words between Helena and Fluke at the pier. I am as confused as ever. I don’t know, Dylan… Is it perhaps because I am fairly new to GH and I don’t know the history? Was there ever a love-fest between her and Luke growing satanic horns?
Yes, Thompson needs a woman en par with himself. Sabrina, albeit she’s okay with me, is in constant turmoil about everything Puerto Rican, Carlos, baby and Michael. And Sam is all about a black and white wardrobe; climbing turrets wearing stilettos; and, solving mysteries a’ la Nancy Drew for Middle Schoolers, while putting everyone to sleep ( never liked jaunty Nancy Drew…lol). Get real, ‘almighties’!!

    October 15, 2015 at 9:58 pm

How about this? Give your actors material worthy of their acting talents. Jason Thompson is a gem but since Robin left they have A. Made him play Prince Charming to Princess Sappy on Ice and B. Made him play Sam’s purse holder while forcing him to passively listen to her breathlessly and orgasmically exult, “Jason, Jason, Jason.”
This man is a firecracker and when we were first introduced to Dr Noah Drake, we were introduced to a compelling, brilliant and arrogant man.
So I am afraid I cannot answer your question as to who should replace Jason Thompson when all I can do is dwell on the fact that GH has let another one get away.

    • Harry

      October 15, 2015 at 11:07 pm

I am sorry for two reasons–One, I was addressing TPTB with my comment and not Mr Fairman and two, I wrote “Dr Noah Drake” when of course I was referring to his son, Dr Patrick Drake.
However, Dr Noah Drake is pretty cool too.
Writing comments on my Smart Phone is somewhat of an oxymoron because my comments are more indicative of a Dumb Phone.

ROBB DERRINGER!!! 🙂 Please bring him back! And he doesn’t even have to play Sloane again. He could be his long-lost twin who comes back for vengeance on the person responsible for Sloane’s demise… Or he could be Sloane after all — maybe someone saved his life — and the experience makes him a changed man. SO many story possibilities for this soap! And he is handsome, charming, and can act!!! Please, please, please bring this actor back to Port Charles in GH!

Hahaha! No… And I don’t think that actor is married. If he is, he’s keeping it a secret. 😉 I just haven’t been “wowed” by an actor before in a long time. His work keeps showing up in all kinds of places, like “The Exes,” “Castle”…(go to his IMDB page). He’s versatile in both drama and comedy. Maybe I should be a casting director, ’cause I’d definitely find more shows for him, especially something more permanent. That’s why I think he deserves a place on the regular cast roster. He’s got that classic Hollywood charm! Love him! 🙂

      • Samantha

        October 19, 2015 at 1:23 pm

The “other Sloane” did nothing for me. So interesting…our different perspectives.. 😉 The character Sloane was ruined once they did the recast and then changed the direction of the character and gave him idiotic story lines and dialogue. If they had kept the one-and-only original Sloane, they could’ve had a strong leading man in Robb Derringer. He’s got that classic charm, handsome looks, and acting chops. He originated the role with warmth and strength, while the other one ruined the role with the new “twist” he added to the character (mainly, his unlikability, which I blame on the writers and whomever made the decision to switch up the casting). Derringer brought layers to the character, while the second actor was one-dimensional, with not much growth potential except in the same old direction. When Derringer picked up where the actor left off, he brought life back into Sloane (and even saw potential for him and Hayden during those scenes with Nickolas…). Hopefully, the writers and PTB will bring him back somehow. After all, this is “just” a soap. 😉 But if not, I’m sure Derringer will soar in other projects, and hopefully with something more permanent. Good conversation, you all! Thanks! 🙂

I currently watch Y&R, B&B and GH. I used to watch Days but the writing took a hard turn south when a scene between Ari Zucker and the actor who plays Eric Brady sounded so much like chalk screeching on a blackboard. Haven’t tuned in since. And since the show has gotten rid of its gay couple in Will and Sonny, there’s absolutely no reason to watch Days anymore.

Sonny doesnt have 3 sons. He he has two. Kidnapping a child by hanging his father onto a meathook and forcing him to sign over parental rights does not a father make. Sonny has screwed every female aged 18 and over. He is gross and greasy and an unrepentant murderer. Only on soaps would such a character survive and thrive. I sont enjoy seeing a murderer getting away. With murder. What a bleak idea no.

I am all for the show continuing to progress along with the once-in-a-while introduction of new characters that are tied to the core of the show and core families. The problem with GH is that when the show is continuously bringing on new characters or recasting, that takes time for the audience to adjust! Not every viewer is going to invest in a new character when they still haven’t adjusted to the previous 30 that were hired. With every new character added, there is less of a link to the show’s history and past. Flashbacks should be used to highlight the show’s history, not rehash what happened on previous episodes that week. Yet, it becomes difficult to provide this when the show consists of too many new characters or recasts. I give props to Ron for the Three Carly’s episode because he was able to provide to the newer audience the history of Carly and the actresses. That was out-of-the-box thinking. He also brought back many veteran characters even if they were not used as often as we would have liked for them to be. Having said that, continuously introducing new characters and recasting takes GH further from its core and when there is still less emphasis on the hospital and core families (rather than tying everyone to Sonny and the mob), it makes the show less appealing to viewers who have kept the show alive all of these years…and the bleeding of viewers continues.

GH Nurses’ Ball 2018 Conclusion: Anna Learns Henrik Is Her Son, Maxie Has Her Son, Ava Wows, Mike & Sonny Duet!

In the most moving and exciting episode of this 2018 GH Nurses’ Ball, all roads lead to the truth about Henrik and how he is really living his life as none other than Peter August (Wes Ramsey).  First, Robert (Tristan Rogers) who has punched out by Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) on stage drags him outside of the ballroom for his part in the cover[up.  Robert is worried about Anna’s (Finola Hughes) safety. Nina (Michelle Stafford) confronts her husband about how long he’s known who Henrik is.  She later figures out why he has been trying to whisk her and Charlotte out of the country.

Courtesy/ABC

Onstage Mike (Max Gail) takes a mic, and makes a moment of saying he has Alzheimer’s and then launches into the song he remembers,“The Summer Wind.” As he sings, he imagines being accompanied by a big band as he proceeds to deliver a showstopper.  Suddenly, in reality, Mike is lost and disoriented … scared he stares around at the audience.  Sonny (Maurice Benard) gets up to the stage to help his dad by cluing him into the lyrics.  Sonny sings with Mike and gets him through the song.  They receive a standing ovation.

Ava (Maura West) who is preparing to perform her number comes across a moment between Kiki (Hayley Erin) and Griffin (Matt Cohen) backstage where they are in a hug.  Little does Ms. Jerome know that Griffin was consoling Kiki after her lewd run-in with Dr. Bensch (James DePaiva).   Then it is Maura West, who truly brings down the house for this year’s ball with her Ava’s rendition of “You Don’t Own Me.”  That tune was certainly a nod to all those that Ava feels have wronged her.  Yup! Sonny, Griffin and Kiki we think are some on her list!   Dressed in a white pant suit and accompanied by a bevy of male dancers, West knocked the interpretation of the song out of the park, to make it work for her character and the Nurses’ Ball.

Courtesy/ABC

Elsewhere, Maxie (Kristen Storms) has gone into labor, and Peter is right there safely delivering her baby boy. Maxie is taken by paramedics to the hospital, while Peter calls Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) at Maxie’s urging to let him know what happened.  Spinelli has just found out, through Sam (Kelly Monaco) and Jason (Steve Burton) that Peter is Henrick!

Anna is walking into a trap on the pier as she waits for Henrick. When he appears, he has no idea that Anna is his mother, and thinks it’s all been a set-up.  He points a gun to eliminate her once and for all, but Anna says she has something to tell him.

The Nurses’ Ball concludes with a touching finale of “Champion” featuring: Epiphany (Sonya Eddy), Felix (Marc Anthony Samuel), Bobbie (Jackie Zeman), Amy (Risa Dorken) and the other nurses.

So, what did you think of the final episode of the GH Nurses’ Ball 2018?  What did you think of the musical performances? Do you think Maxie’s baby will be OK? Will Anna be able to tell Henrik that she is his mom? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.

Ryan Paevey Sends Out Touching Tweet On The Birth Of His TV Son On General Hospital!

On yesterday’s GH, viewers saw the tender moment when Maxie (Kirsten Storms) delivered her baby, who is the bio-son of her late husband, Nathan West.

When Maxie finds out she had a boy to carry on the legacy of her beloved husband, she is overcome.

Ryan Paevey (Ex-Nathan), who left the series earlier this year, took to Twitter upon seeing the episode and the image of the little baby that is his on-screen offspring.

He expressed: “Welcome to the world, little one …. it’s a scary place sometimes, and i so wish i could have been there to show you all the good stuff. Your mother loves you,and will take care of you and teach you …. watch out for her her for me will ya?”

Aaawww.  So many GH fans have been touched by the gesture, and how nice it is that it makes the whole journey and end of Nathan’s West story heartbreaking and bittersweet.
