General Hospital Pre-Empted Friday For Nancy Reagan Funeral

Courtesy/ABC

Courtesy/ABC

ABC will be preempting General Hospital’s Friday, March 11th originally slated episode.  Due to the network’s coverage of the funeral of former first lady, Nancy Reagan, the soap opera will have a full preemption.

Nancy Reagan’s funeral is scheduled to air at 2-3:30PMET Friday.

This decision will push all upcoming episodes of GH back one day, which means that Friday’s originally scheduled episode #13513 will now air on Monday, March 14th.

So with things heating up in story with Griffin (Matt Cohen) and Anna (Finola Hughes), Carlos (Jeffrey Vincent Parise), and Tracy (Jane Elliot), looks like fans will have to be on the edge of their seats till next week.

Just say no.

No disrespect to Mrs. Reagan but, really?

damn, i was looking forward to seeing Griffin in his towel, yummy yummy, oh well, i got monday to look forward too.

Very appropriate.

My condolences to the Reagan family. Ronald and Nancy represented the epitome of love, trust and fidelity. A true love story.
*****************
As I had suspected and predicted from the first moment Anna and Griffin came face to face, there was a current between them. A charged, unspoken moment that was unavoidably obvious. I felt it….I think everyone felt it.
Anna appeared both disturbed and perturbed by the feeling….so much so, she mentioned it to Andre.
All I can say is that it takes pure talent to portray and relay that message just by exchanging looks between each other ( Anna and Griffin; that is). I actually got goosebumps…..that’s how much I was caught up in ‘their’ moment. BRAVI…..both Anna and Griffin.
I am still not sure what Andre’s role is? Jordan or Anna? Jordan is kind of blah…..Anna? Mystery galore.

I mean BRAVI to Finola and Matt…the actors.

The Reagan’s=Americana!

Finola is a pure purrrfectionist!

Andre deserves better than Jordan but Anna is way out of his league!

Hey Ceecee, speaking of Anna, where did she get that impressive pad? A single character in this day and age doesnt even get two chairs in a room! She got a nice home. Did they build that for her or did she inherit it? Its not Patrick and Robin’s home. Is that where Jason is moving to. Thanks honey!

Anna’ HOME is amazing ! so well put together… ITS HUGE ! LOL

only the best for Ms. Devane

it must be the remodeled place that the Drake family once nested ?

kudos to her

I’m now waiting to see what happens with Liz house; that exploded

With all due respect, this is a pet peeve of mine. There are plenty of media outlets to which interested viewers can be directed. ABC has an online presence; a crawl could be run directing viewers there. Breaking news of urgent importance is one thing, but this does not qualify.

I respect the Reagans but Friday night will be littered with coverage on every channel. I dont know, it is a big story, though.

I am definitely not on the edge of my seat..
I have no problem waiting for Monday..
(I’m not entertained or enthusiastic) but still a number in the ratings 🙂

Su, my friend….you’re not a bit interested what this ‘thing’ which pulls Anna to Griffin and vice versa towards each other is?
Did you watch AMC? It is part of Anna’s past. Lots of history there. I am hoping and praying the mystery is centered around that premise. I know Vincent Irizzary is on Days now, but Dr. Hayward could be recast in the form of Michael Easton.
Does it sound reasonable? Michael may be too young to play that role….don’t know.
Later, SuzieQ.

I would think you would do this out of respect just to bad Obama does not have the same respect

A classy lady who was nuts about her husband and he felt the same way! RIP precious First Lady you are with your Ronnie once again!

Traditionally, historically, the funerals of former first ladies are attended by the current first lady, not the current president. (Spend 10 seconds on Google & look it up yourself.) Interesting to see that you’re holding President Obama to a higher standard than any of his predecessors. Care to offer a reason why?

Here, here, k/kay!!!! It’s a known fact that each individual family, and even the first ladies themselves, plan their funerals far ahead of time….some prefer the formal pomp and circumstance, others a more simple tribute…such as the examples of the Truman and Johnson services, which most likely would not have desired the additional burden of hosting a bevy of important dignitaries. However, there is precedent for both sitting and former presidents, as well as their spouses, to attend such events. One need only look back as far as Pat Nixon’s historic farewell when the Fords, Reagans, Bushes and Clintons were all there to honor that beautiful, but beleaguered, first lady. Anybody who witnessed that particular tribute cannot forget its deep emotion and innate class, not to mention, the sight of all those ex-presidents in one place at one time. It was truly a moment that remains etched upon one’s memory. Having said that, I do not feel that Mrs. Reagan was given her proper due….she was a highly important and influential first lady during one of this country’s most golden eras, and she should have been accorded more respect than she received from both those in current power and the networks…in my area, only ABC carried her service live. Still, it was a most dignified and elegant ceremony befitting this lovely, courageous woman who, along with her husband, gave us some of the best times America has ever seen. As a citizen who came of age during those most wonderful Reagan years, and, thus, experienced their many immense joys, I must gratefully add, may Nancy rest in eternal peace with her beloved Ronnie once again by her side.

K/Kay…no disrespect to Nancy, but other presidents of both parties have not attended such funerals in the past.

Hate to get into politics here, but since you brought it up…sitting presidents don’t usually go to the funeral of former first ladies. George W. Bush didn’t go to Ladybird Johnson’s funeral in 2007. Don’t seem to remember a big fuss over that. Ronald Reagan himself didn’t attend Bess Truman’s funeral in 1982. Why is Obama held to a different standard from any other president?

Because some people are racists, the end

He is too busy filing out his March Madness brackets!

Let’s chill. I know it can be hard in the political climate we’re living in right now, for everyone. But let’s not let that world spill over into MF’s safe place. After all we have our own big issues to think and talk about regarding our soaps. No room for these other “discussions” to creep in here.

C’mon now —

You, my friend, WIN the prize!!!! Nail on the head.

NO ONE complained about the other sitting Presidents when they didn’t attend other First Ladies services, BUT somehow when President Obama doesn’t attend IT’S A TRAVESTY because he’s being “oh, so disrespectful.”

Gimme a break, people! EVERYONE can see right through you. So incredibly obvious.

I look at it a little bit differently. I think it would have been nice if he would have broken tradition and attended the funeral. Not because she was a first lady, but because she stepped over party lines to support stem cell research with him. The footage of them supporting each other in the stem cell research effort is touching. In those photos, he seemed very kind toward her. They appeared to have great respect for each other. He seemed, or so I once thought, very appreciative of her for breaking old school conservative tradition and supporting stem cell research. I think it would have been nice if he had broken tradition today and attended the funeral. I was disappointed he wasn’t there.

So let’s get this straight Ian a racist because I said President Obama should have went to a funeral of a First Lady instead of a festival? What is that thinking I have employed more African Americans in my business’s then a lit of people I don’t judge people by the color of their skin I judge you by your character! End of story personally I am sick to death of any opposition to the President considered racist! It is not personal their our things in my lifetime that a lot of Presidents have done that I thought were not right! Get over yourselves yes I happen to think the President of the United States is held to a high standard !

Of course the President should have attended the funeral of Mrs. Reagan(Andy G’s paranoid suspicions notwithstanding). And as to General Hospital-the episode was not canceled it was postponed until Monday.

I am sorry but I get emotional no matter which side it is if the aisle all I have ever asked is respect the president is an honor whether I like President Obama or not is of no relevance I respect the office I ask him and anyone else to do the same you owe that to us as a country ! End of story you do not have to agree or live someone across this stupid aisle we have formed but I as an American citizen expect you to respect someone who held this high honor! If you don’t get that then I am sorry I do not hat Presidrnt Obama I disagree on many of his policies but I respect the office! Does everybody finally get that!

Great….loved today’s show.

I’m glad ABC gave us the news the day before!

I wonder if CBS or NBC are going to do the same?

Thats what I said Steve, just tell us. I can wait until Monday! When networks just cut in on stupid stuff it seems as if they dont care about us soap fans. This is a big event. Mrs. Reagan was an amazing women!

Rest Nancy and be with Ronnie now. No, thats cool, a heads up is always welcomed. I have always said I just hate when the networks cut in when the president holds a press conference saying goodbye to us all before he takes his holiday break. SO WHAT! CNN and FOX can talk about it all day! Leave my soaps alone!

Over the weekend lets hope Mayes quits chewing on lemons! [So sour but I like him in a weird way!] Sam finds a band aid after getting cut on the crypt plaque. Alexis has a headache! Brad quits making googlee eyes at Griff. Anna just stays amazingly beautiful! Dillon continues to show a backbone. And Mr. Luke sneaks in dressed as a surgeon to see Miss Tracy! Go Jane go!

Why does Alexis have a headache, Timmmy? Do you think she could be with child?

Your such an innocent little puppy my dear! I mentioned a headache for Alexis because that is often the number one excuse one gives if they are not up for dancing in the sheets! HER AND JULIAN NEED TO COOL DOWN! Luv ya!

Oh, Timmmy, Timmmy, Timmmy. I guess I am not very good sarcasm, LOL.
It would be a new record in the world of female reproduction to gestate at that age.
I actually thought my post wasn’t going to make it due to its inference.
I’m not that innocent, my love….Ask Britney Spears.
I can’t understand what this Mayes guy is about. Maybe, when Dr. Michael Easton role comes into play, he will take Mayes’ place. He really has it in for heartthrob, Dr. Munro. What a man….now, that’s real competition for Nathan. They could pass as brothers. Liesl must have gotten around in her hey-days. LOL.
Anna is definitely out of Dr. Andre’s league. But, he is so ‘charming’?. Nah…too stiff, I think. But, there was an awkward pause between them somewhere in there. I just question why is he here?
I have yet to grasp the meaning of his role. Morgan or Anna could have had sessions with a shrink behind the scenes; so, why?
I noticed Anna’s ‘housing’ as well…just seems out of place in Port Charles . Looks more like a mansion Sonny would inhabit. Love that dark paneling. Perfect for a library/den.
As far as Jason? I count the days until he remembers and has it out with Sonny AND Carly in his Quartermaine persona. Love you too….

I kinda like that Dr. Mayes gruff tough exterior

perhaps they may not explore that… unless… as Timmm posted.. that their could possibly be a pairing down the road

gives the GH hospital some character… just some wonderment

WHAT I’m wondering… could ME character be brought in to take over as Chief of Staff ??? they certainly are not utilizing Kathleen Gatti … Dr. O

I sure miss Dr. Leisl

Nathan and Nina just have to put aside their differences and sidle up to this grand dame and this family nucleus should be interacting that much more

what about Dr. Mayes and Dr. Leisl she’d purr the softee right outa his man

* COULD POSSIBLY be a pairing down the road BETWEEN Dr. Mayes and Tracy

Everything but the last one! No need for Luke. Both Tracy and the show much better without him.

I had to throw ONE curve Melissa!

GRRRRRR…

In Canada we got treated to a repeat of last year’s nurses ball and I got to hear Emma and Patrick sing their father/daughter duet again. Not every American household has cable or the internet, so it was fitting one American network aired the funeral and some do want to watch it live, not just get highlights on the evening news. She deserved the honor and some interruptions are unavoidable. CBS will be interrupting Y&R and B&B during March madness— yet no one complains about that— there is so much in life to be upset about, delaying an episode of GH for a couple of days isn’t one of them.

Thank you, Mary SF…..And, by the way, your former Prime Minister, Brian Mulroney, truly did your country proud with his stirring, sentimental tribute to the Reagans’ inspiring marriage. It was simply beautiful and captured the loving essence of this legendary first couple. Both Mulroney’s lovely wife, Mila, and he added a genuine touch of class to the ceremony. Well done!

And from what I have seen and read, Justin Trudeau, the current Prime Minister of Canada, who was in Washington this week for an official Heads Of State meeting with Obama has a “genuine touch of class ” as well. Nice to see both leaders with their wives and children sharing a moment of friendship.

ABC and NBC carried the Nancy Reagan story. CBS had The Talk going on. I enjoyed watching the service. Ronald Reagan was a great president and I loved hearing stories of them as a couple. Thought it was interesting that CBS chose to not show it. I mean The Talk is too important to interrupt!

I’m so tired of the talk show trend right now. I guess it didn’t annoy me so much back in the day when a talk show had one host and there was maybe one talk show per channel per day, not every hour. These talk shows with numerous hosts give me a headache. Too many cooks in the kitchen talking over each other or fighting.

I agree. I just don’t understand how people watch them. I really think daytime will become more info commercial disguised as an actual show. Quality shows are no longer important, the advertising dollar is all that matters. The popularity of Downton Abbey shows people desire for quality programming. It is so sad that the soaps are disappearing. The talk shows just keep coming.

There were participants in the service from ABC (Diane Sawyer) and NBC (Tom Brokaw).Would they have covered it live had they not been?Would CBS have covered it had Bob Scheiffer been a speaker?Everything thing in television is cross-promotion and the bottom line and respect for Republicans and conservatives is in short supply at the big three broadcast networks.

You make an excellent point. I totally agree with you.

Hi Robert…just revisited this story. Sorry to see there are several what I would call mis-understandings on how some interpret attendance of the funeral. Can’t speak for why CBS didn’t have someone of note at the funeral. As a channel hopper of the major networks I know they covered it on the air and online.

What I do want to add is that all the majors are giving a lot of air time to both Republican/conservative news and interviews with their candidates. I just hope we can agree that a lot of the current candidate comments don’t meet the kind of language and leadership that we expect out of or country’s leaders…no matter what side of the aisle. And those networks that cover the Republicans more extensively have “journalists” that seem to increase the discourse.

Maybe they should take a page on how we try to discuss on MF…more civility and respect.

Rose:my point is that ABC and NBC covered Mrs. Reagan’s funeral because each of them had one of their stars as a participants. It is not that CBS didn’t have a representative-no news organization did-Diane Sawyer and Tom Brokaw were there because they were personal friends of Nancy Reagan.I was suggesting that ABC and NBC might have chosen to cover the funeral because an element of it could serve as a promotion for them.Network executives make all of their decisions for the bottom line. One cannot underestimate the stupidity and venality of network executives .I refer you to the cancellations of All My Children and One Life to Live and their replacements with revolting,cross-promotional,cheap to produce junk TV.
As to your comment on political coverage all three broadcasts are indisputably left-leaning.

correction :in the above post line 2 it should read “as participants”

Hi Robert,

Just caught up again. Many times I shake my head when it comes to the “bottom line” decisions of the networks. I realize they are a business but what really bothers me is that demos over their preferred ages are disregarded even though this demo controls and spends way more money…and also seem to like a good story and soaps.

Not sure how the network corporates really fall, right or left, except Fox. Maybe privately on partisan, mixed with hedging their bets. But I have to say I see the networks at least giving lots of airtime to the right. And of course there’s Trump…on his own dime he has found his own way to “force” media that he is must tv for ratings. He can even phone in his thoughts on certain shows. And since there are really only two Dems, not as much coverage.

But I am really disappointed at the level of language, spinning the truth, and politics some have gone to in this country. But if you check history politics has always been a dirty business. And as for the networks, over the years they’ve brought us some really good tv, and also made very questionable business/save their a** decisions. I think the latter also depends on which young turks at the time want to make their mark. Funny, we never hear their names again except for the guy (Fron?) at ABC who axed OLTL and AMC.

More of the Story on ‘General Hospital’ Star Josh Kelly’s Latest Film Role in ‘The Workout’

We had previously shared that General Hospital’s Josh Kelly was taking three weeks away from his role of Cody Bell to a shoot a role in an upcoming movie entitled The Workout.

Josh originally revealed his role in the film during an episode of GH castmates, Steve Burton (Jason) and Bradford Anderson’s (Spinelli) podcast.

Now Deadline has filled in some of the blanks, and shared some intriguing intel on the premise of the film and its back-story.  The film stars Kelly along with Peter Jae, and UFC Fighter, Ashlee Evans-Smith. Other cast members include The Bay’s Kristos Andrews.

Photo: ABC

In The Workout, two army rangers set out to create a workout video, but their plans are abruptly halted when a mob hit interrupts their filming. Tragically, one of the rangers loses his wife in the attack, sending him on a relentless mission to take down the mob and anyone who stands in his way.

The film from James Cullen Bressack, almost did not get financed.  Apparently, ten days before his birthday, Bressack made a post on Instagram about the feature and production, casting, and financing came from the post … illustrating the power of social media. After the post gained traction, a producer provided financing and actors expressed interest in joining the project, leading to a quick production.

Photo: ABC

In a statement, Bressack shared, “As artists a painter paints, a musician makes music, a writer writes, but as filmmakers we have to ask permission to create. It’s time to change that narrative. This film spawned from a necessity to create. We create. We tell stories. We play pretend. I’m excited to take this journey. This is the truest form of collaboration and a community of friends coming together to make something fun. While our industry has had a rough time recently with strikes and a possible strike looming in the future, it’s nice to remind ourselves why we got into film to begin with. To have fun telling stories.”

No word yet on when The Workout will be released.

So, looking forward to seeing this collaborative effort featuring GH’s Josh Kelly? Comment below.
