In very sad and heartbreaking news for soap fans, those of General Hospital and his family and colleagues, John Ingle (Edward Quartermaine) died this Saturday according to a Facebook post from his family!

The post read:  “John Houston Ingle  May 7, 1928 – September 16, 2012 – Father, Husband, Grandan, Great Grandan, Brother, Uncle, Friend, Teacher, Inspirer, Mentor: May You Soar with the Angels. You will forever hold a special place in the deepest corners of our hearts. You were joy, light and love. Goodness at its very best. For the rest of our days, we will all do our best to continue to make you proud. Rest in peace and continue to spread your generous spirit in the heavens above.  Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. With love forever, from:. your 5 – J. Ingle Belles and the family, friends and loved ones you leave behind.”

When Ingle made his final appearance last week on GH, the family also posted this heart-tugging message on September 10th about his health and how much it meant to him to be part of a GH taping one last time:  “As our Dad moves closer and closer to joining our Mom, I thought I would share a bit of much needed “happiness” for the Ingle clan. For those of you that have followed Dad as “Edward Quartermaine” on General Hospital for all these years, I wanted to let you know that Dad was able to return to the set on August 24th, for what will undoubtedly be his last performance on the show. His scene was small and he had very few words…. but his presence on the set was monumental. Beginning with a standing ovation by the entire cast and crew as we entered the set, to the line of people waiting to hug and wish him well, it was a day that he (and we) will remember forever. Several months ago, Dad had said that ” if he only had one more day on the set of General Hospital, he would feel like he had won”…. On that Friday, with the help of one of his caregivers (Anthony), a wheelchair van and 2 of his daughters, (myself and Chrissy), that goal was realized. Entering the set of GH was emotional for Dad and it was obvious why he has loved being there all these years. Chrissy and I joked and said it was the ONLY “Hospital” we have enjoyed visiting since January! Ha! The filming did not take that long and Dad did a good job.”

“The cast and crew were patient and worked with Dad to get a scene that was meaningful. Standing there watching the monitor, we were struck by the reality that it was not Edward Quartermaine who was on the set….it was Dad surrounded by people who love and care about him. It was truly a wonderful afternoon. None of us know what tomorrow holds, but today we will hang onto the memory of August 24th and the love and support that was shown for our Dad. For anyone who might want to see the show, it is being aired tomorrow (September 11th), on ABC at 1:00 p.m. (PST). This is a new time slot for GH, for those of you who watch the show. The producers said it was September 11th, but then we heard that it may be a two-part episode. Might want to set your tivos for both days just to be sure. Last but not least,”Thank You” again to all of our family and friends for your love, prayers and support over these past few months. We truly CAN feel it:-)”

Ingle died at 84 and now will join is beloved wife, Grace Lynn who passed away back in February whom he was married to for 57 years.  Before getting into acting full-time, Ingle was a highly regarded acting teacher teach for three decades!

We will continue to bring you thoughts from the world of daytime as the day goes on Ingle’s passing.   Our thoughts and prayers are with Ingle’s family at this time.

He was such a lovely man He will be remembered in my prayers. I am a long time fan of General Hospital. I have watched it since I was in high school in the late sixties.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Ingle (I will always know him as Edward). I loved Edward and Lila………..and enjoyed them on GH for many, many years. It makes me very sad that they are both gone now. My deepest sympathy to him family……………….

A giant of a man in the world of acting, having been a professional one himself for many many decades, as well as offering his immense talent and knowledge in the form of teaching new crops of actors trying to hone the craft.

I’ve only heard beautiful things about Mr. Ingle. May he rest in peace with his beloved wife.

And for the show, we have so few Q’s as it is. This one really stings. Now they HAVE to bring back Alan!!!! We need a patriarch and Alan is the ONLY one that fits the bill! Do the right thing FV!!!

john ingle rest in peace my dear friend. we will all miss you john ingle as edward quartermaine. he was a wonderful actor and very caring person. please do not recast edward quartermaine.

I can only cry at the moment. I loved him dearly. He was so kind and had a beautiful smile. He was like a dad in so many ways. Father to many of us out here in the world. Broken hearted, but glad he’s with the love of his life now. K

Very sad. He joins all of the other wonderful GH actors that have passed away over the years: John Beradino, Emily McLaughlin, Lucille Wall, Anna Lee and others. They were all a joy to watch.

I remember them all, also. Great GH memories.

so sad to hear of his passing seen him on the show last week a great actor there will be only one edward quartermaine he will be missed my heart goes out to the family

John Ingle was the second Mr. Q – I couldn’t believe they recast when David Lewis passed, but Mr. Ingle took over the role immediately and never looked back. They both did a great job. Hope they DO NOT recast this time altho’ the Q family is running thin!

Agreed. We fans were blessed with TWO great actors as Mr. Q. No recast please. I believe they tried to recast John Ingle with Jed Alan. A fine actor, but it didn’t work.

RIP John Ingle and thanks for the memories.

Please bring back Alan!

Very sad news I send my sympathy to his family and all the folks at general hospital. Mr. Ingle was truly a class act. You will be missed.

sorry for your loss….Edward Q was a hoot!!! All that bickering back & forth. We loved it all. RIP

My thoughts and prayers are with John’s family and friends, I’m so sorry for your loss. God bless you all

Rest in peace John Ingle. We will miss you playing Edward Quartermaine. Our thoughts and prayers to his family. I have been watching General Hospital since high school.

With much love and respect, thanks for all the yrs. Rest in Peace

I have enjoy John Ingle as Edward for so many years. He made me laugh and cry. You will be sorely missed. See you in Heaven.

He holds a special place in my heart as the narrator of the children’s animated classic “The Land Before Time”. Wonderful actor who will be sorely missed. Condolences to his family and castmates.

Mine too. My daughter was a fan of that movie series and I just loved hearing his voice.

He was a great actor and will be missed by all that truly knew him. His last scenes on General Hospital were brilliant and timeless. RIP John Ingle and your GH character Edward Quartermaine. Sympathy to his Family and Friends

I loved John so much. He was Edward Quartermaine. He will be missed . I was so glad to get see him again on his last appearance On GH. May John rest in peace.

I’m so saddened to hear the bad news – I cried the day that scene played. He was a GREAT Mr. Q. Mr. Ingle/Mr. Q now you may R.I.P. with your beloved wife of 57 years Grace Lynn & on screen Lila (Anna Lee).. <3… Thank you for the many great years of acting on GH as Mr. Q. You will be GREATLY missed on GH!!!!!

I’m so sorry. What a champion of a Man. He emanates a big heart.

He beamed…. happiness.

I am so sorry to hear of John’s passing. I have been a fan of GH for a long time, and will miss seeing him. I don’t think anyone can replace him as Edward Quartermain. My prayers go out to the family he will be truley missed.

I thought nobody could replace the first Edward Quartermaine (David Lewis), but then here came John Ingle. He made the role his own and was brilliant! RIP Mr. Ingle.

John Ingle will always hold a special place in my heart. He was always nice to meet at the fan gatherings and took the time to speak to you. I will miss him.

The world lost a gentle soul in John Ingle. In the last few years he brought a true sense of love & appreciation to Edward Quartermaine. You could see that he loved Jason & Michael, but in the wisdom of years, he’d learned to accept them & the lives they’d chosen to live but love them all the same. I’ve no doubt that kindness, unconditional love, & sense of family is something that John Ingle personified in life, & it came across in his performance. God Bless & rest in peace.

So very sad!!! Just a few days after that sweet episode aired… had hoped it wasn’t the last we were going to see of John/Edward. He is a truly talented human being and from interviews a lovely man! My sympathies go out to his family and friends and all of his colleagues at GH. We will miss him terribly! Enjoy… John and thank you!!!

(Crying). No celebrity death has had me in tears. John Ingle in his final days reminded me so much of my own dearly-departed Grandfather (complete with the hat). 🙂

What a wonderful legacy Mr. Ingle has had. What a beautiful sentiment and story from his family. No one should be sad. He is with the love of his life now. It must have been so hard for him the last several months without her, but they are together again and I am happy for him. He will be greatly missed on General Hospital. 🙁

I also wanted to add, in case some of you did not know:

“Long before John Ingle stepped into the footlights, he was helping young people realize their acting aspirations as a teacher at Hollywood High School and at Beverly Hills High School. In fact, Mr. Ingle was the founder of the well-respected performing arts departments at both schools.

After he graduated from Verdugo Hills High School — where he was Senior Class President — Mr. Ingle attended Occidental College to study theater and journalism. He graduated from Oxy in 1950 with a degree in theater arts and went on to get his teaching credential a year later. In 1955 he joined the faculty of Hollywood High and also began teaching at Los Angeles City College at night. Mr. Ingle moved to Beverly Hills High in 1964 where he taught performing arts courses for the next 21 years. During his high school teaching days, he also taught classes at UCLA for fifteen years. Among the more famous of his students are Albert Brooks, Nicolas Cage, Richard Dreyfuss, Joanna Gleason, Barbara Hershey, Swoosie Kurtz, Stefanie Powers, David Schwimmer and Jonathan Silverman. Mr. Ingle began his own acting career the same year he retired from teaching.”

Mr. Ingle’s passing will truly be felt throughout Hollywood as he has touched so, so many lives.

Thanks for the info Christine – nice tribute to a wonderful man & actor!

OMG! I just saw his last episode last week. What a character was Edward Quartermaine! When John first replaced Edward, I wasn’t sure I’d like him. But he grew to be a wonderful character. With his passing, it seems like I lost my father. He will be missed. My heart goes out to the Ingle family, AND to all the friends and fans of General Hospital. Rest in Peace, Mr. Q! Sincerely, Cat

John Ingle was a terrific character actor. I enjoyed him on Days of Our Lives and General Hospital. It was amazing to learn of Mr. Ingle’s awesome career as an acting teacher and the lives he touched. We will always miss Edward Quartermain on GH. I am so glad the Frank Valentini and the GH family worked to have such a moving final scene for all of us. God Bless John Ingle and his incredible life and family – on and off screen.

Michael you should put the interview up that Kimberly Mc did with him on her kimmeabreak site… it shows what family man he was and how much he loved acting and teaching.

I am so very sorry to hear this, he was a great actor.

So sorry to hear of John’s passing. I really enjoyed watching his character on GH. I have been watching the show since 1977, when I was in grammar school. He will truly be missed. I send out my deepest sympathies to his family & friends & may he rest in peace.

my last time I saw him was n hospital when Tracy gave antiodes to Drake’s daughter instead of Edward Quartermaine last week or 2 weeks. I will be miss him dearly, We(sob) will be miss you,old friend(I cried).
RIP to John Ingle aka Edward Quartermaine

When John first took over the role from the original Edward, David Lewis, I thought he is so different. But over the years John became the only Edward to me. His gruff exterior was coveing up the softie he was inside. He will sadly be missed.

To get an idea of how wonderful he was check out Kimberly McCulloughs interview with him on UTube.

Rest In Peace Mr. Ingle

John Ingle portraying Edward Quartermaine was one of my favorite rascals on TV. He was ornery as all heck, but there was always that twinkle in his eyes, which was of course a bit of Mr. Ingle shining thru. I will miss them both dearly!

I have been watching GH since my days in college(many years ago) and Edward has always been a pivitol character in all that is GH—John was Edward in every sense of the word–strong yet tender–with always a twinkle in his eye–he will be missed by all who love GH and him!!! May he know all the happiness and pleasure he has brought to so many people for all his years here on earth!

Such an amazing man and actor. He will be sorely missed. So thankful we got to see him one more time on GH. That was a very powerful scene. Condolences to the family.

So sad to hear of the passing of John aka Edward Quartermaine…Though it was shocking to read I was not at all surprised…I saw John’s last show & could tell then that he was not very well…Now I know why GH did not let Edward pass from virus that plagued Port Charles….John will be so missed by all of us who live our lives with General Hospital…may he rest in peace…:(((((

Rest in peace John Ingle. We will miss you and our beloved Edward Quartermaine. You were the heart and soul of General Hospital. Your legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of more people than you can possible imagine. A true legacy has been lost.

A kind and caring man who will be missed!

John Ingle will truly be missed by all the fans of GH. He seemed like a kind soul and a wonderful teacher. Just think of all the great actors who had the chance to learn from this master of his craft through the years. RIP John.

am very sad to hear of his passing ive watched him for years and i loved his character he will be missed my thoughts and prayers are with his family and his gh family also rip john

My deepest condolences to the family at home and the GH family. I saw his final episode. I had no idea this would be his final appearance. He will be missed.

Thoughts and prayers to his family and the TV family i have been watching General Hospital ever since in came on TV. Edward will always be missed along with Lila. God Speed Edward with the angels now.

I have tears in my eyes as I read the article. I am so profoundly saddened by his passing……. there are no words.

May god bless John and may he rest in peace with his lovely wife Grace Lynn. My prayers are with his family, his friends, his GH family and all those who loved him!

RIP Mr. Ingles!

There can never be another Mr. Q. There are few actors that cannot possibly be replaced and Mr Ingle is one of those. I will miss him. I realize that Mr. Q was only part of the man Mr Ingle; and there are many venues in which he will be missed. The most by far by his family and close friends. Will keep you in prayer.

Tears……. ( Never cried for a REAL LIFE passing cast before) TEARS….

This MAN will be MISSED, OMG will he be. The comediac tming, the love and protection of his family and great grand-children- You FELT it through the TV screen. He made you a BELIEVER.! The cast felt it, who worked opposite of him. His GH ” children” were also his beloved children.
Listen, I LOVED the 1st Edward Quartermain, David Lewis (didnot like the 2nd) and then John (3rd) came in and I took a liking to him immediately. When he was out sick OR off over on Days (the althernate wasn’t as bad as the 2nd Edward, but now one could replace John BUT David (1st) because these TWO men were exceptional playing this part. Now I don’t know WHAT they will do. With ALL the changes in Daytime TV, and GH, I CAN’T IMAGINE having to ADAPT to not seeing John Ingle. People, I loved….. this man. If you wererfeeling Bad, watch John as Edward. If you’re feelong good, and what to get yyour laugh on, watch John as Edward. This character filled a void and his role was multi-dimentional ( Susan Lucci are you listening) .
I hope they DONT kill off the character because the Quartermain family has about fallen apart. I do….. hope they do a show in his honor showing old clips, and maybe have Tracy dream he has died (which takes us to the old clips) and THAT be the days show, displaying his picture ‘ In Memory of ” at the very end. Then…. after a long search (and very little mention) a new Edward appears, and Tracy tells him, ” I have a dream you died. ” Of course the new Edward shouldn’t appear until around December or January, and mention of Edward (being alive) should only be spoken, SHORTLY beforehand. We need….. this character. Although, I HATE to see another Fantastic Edward Quartermain go.
To John Ingles family: John was a star he on earth. Now, he is a shinning star wth the Greatest Superstar’s of ALL time (fortunate enough to be invited). You are BLESSED ot have the REELS of work and his many dimentions on camera. You are also blessed to have had him so long, and have such an amazing life with him,, especially as an educator. During your time of lost, know that myself, and soooooo many people are sharing the grief. What a blessing, he passed very peacefully, the way everyone wants to go. That maybe a testiment to HOW HE lived his LIFE.
Tears…..
May God be with the family during this time.

Sincerely,
1loveabcSOAPS~

A truly kind, humorous, gentle man so full of life. A pleasure to have met him several times and richer in life for it. Loved hearing him whistling in the halls of the GH studio with that joy for life just emitting from him. Heartfelt sympathy to his families both personal and GH. The world has lost an amazing gift and heaven has gained an angel. Will miss you so. May you and Grace be driving together once again in the yellow mazzeratti you so enjoyed. RIP

My heartfelt sympathies go out to John’s family. It was wonderful to get to see John as Edward Quartermaine one last time on my screen. I cried during that episode. He was a wonderful actor as well as a wonderful man. God Bless!

Mr. Ingle’s time on GH was nothing short of amazing. He was a gifted actor, and an integral part of GH. It will be sad to no longer see him as part of the GH family. I was touched by his final performance, especially after reading how it came to be. Thank you to the family for sharing that with his fans. What a beautiful gift to him, the cast/crew and the viewers that he was able to have that last performance, and in such a relevant storyline. Blessings to his family, including his GH family. He will be greatly missed.

So sorry to hear of his passing. He was a wonderful actor & did an amazing job as Edward Quartemaine for years. May he rest in peace with his loving wife, and can say hello to his GH wife Anna Lee,.the lovely Lila Quartermaine. prayers to all his family & friends, he was a wonderful man!

General Hospital

General Hospital’s Adam J. Harrington Weighs-in On John and Carly, and How it’s ‘Starting to Get Very Complicated”

On recent episodes of General Hospital, Carly (Laura Wright) came to John “Jagger” Cates (Adam Harrington) rescue as he was beaten down in an assault. Carly put on her “nurses cap,” sort of speak, and got John to his hotel room and watched over to him, to make sure he didn’t lose consciousness.

GH fans also got their first glimpse of what may be a new romance for Carly, if she and John continue to bond.  If John and Carly were to have a relationship, it would certainly have a ripple effect with Jason (Steve Burton) and Sonny (Maurice Benard).

Adam J. Harrington shared his view on the scenes and what might be next between the two. Speaking to Soap Opera Digest, Harrington shared, “I thought it was written in a way where there’s an understanding and a respect between them both. I don’t think there was any moment where she was not aware that he’s an FBI agent, and there was no moment that he wasn’t aware of her history and relationship to other people in the town. I really liked it. I was really looking forward to shooting it with Laura and we had a really nice time shooting it.”

Photo: ABC

When Carly and John part ways, it seems there were some romantic sparks, as Harrington puts it, “Isn’t that interesting that sometimes with people, the one moment they actually show how they feel is when they know there’s an escape hatch. They know they’re about to walk away. So, it’s almost safe in that moment to do it. I thought that was really special about how (the writers) handled John and Carly. Even the music in that scene was beautifully done.”

Where is this all heading? Conflict! Internally and professionally, and as Adam explains, “Who Carly was to John on paper as just a tool to be used as bait is starting to get very complicated.”

What would you think of a John and Carly pairing? Would you prefer him with Anna, or neither of them? Let us know via the comment section and take our poll below.

General Hospital’s Steve Burton Reveals the Emotional Scene He Almost Could Not Get Through

On a recent episode of General Hospital, Jason received a message from his mother, Monica Quartermaine (Leslie Charleson) via a note. The effect it had on Jason’s portrayer, Steve Burton turned out to be quite visceral.

As GH fans know, although Jason’s bio-mom was Susan Moore, he was raised and adopted by Monica. Speaking on his Daily Drama podcast with his co-host and GH co-star, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli), Steve shared some insight on the difficulties he had getting through that scene.

Burton shared that in the key moment, “Brooklyn (played by Amanda Setton) came in and that’s where she gave me (Jason) the letter from Monica. That was a very hard scene for me to do. That was a tough one. That was the one time I was almost going to call ‘cut!’  It read ‘Jason, I believe in you.’ I was literally going to walk off the set.”

Photo: JPI

To clarify and in the story, Monica was saying “I believe in you” and that she knows Jason didn’t shoot Dante (Dominic Zamprogna). Steve added, “It was tough, man. Emotionally, it was a tough scene. It was overwhelming in the moment.”

Steve went on to detail to Anderson, “She (Brook Lynn) pushed it to me and I read it and she was walking out and I had to stop her, but I was so emotional I couldn’t even get it out.  And at that point, I’m like, ‘Do I just keep going … or do I just walk off the set right now?’ But, I knew just to stay, because it’s so hard to get back there, once you shut it down. I knew, the next take wasn’t going to be the same.”

Photo: JPI

It’s clear that Leslie Charleson is so missed on-screen as Monica by all of her castmates, and that Jason and Monica had a very special mother/son relationship throughout the decades on GH.

What did you think of the moment when Jason got a note from Monica that said, “I believe in you?” Were you touched as well? Let us know in the comment section. You can check out the latest episode of Steve and Bradford’s podcast below.

George Russo to Appear on General Hospital as Carmine Cerullo

Coming up, it looks like Brook Lynn’s (Amanda Setton) grandfather, Carmine Cerullo is headed to Port Charles.

According to casting news from the ABC soap opera, George Russo will take on the role. Russo will tape his episode next week on April 15th and will appear on the May 15th episode of the long-running daytime drama series.

If George looks familiar he has been in numerous primetime television shows and motion pictures including: The Offer. Winning Time, Grand Crew and Shameless.

Photo: ABC

Longtime GH viewers will recall that Lois’ (Rena Sofer) dad, Carmine, was previously showed up in Port Charles on and off from 1994 to 1996 and was played by John Capudice.

Clearly, it seems that Carmine will be a part of Chase (Josh Swickard) and Brook Lynn’s wedding.  Will it go off without a hitch? Are you looking forward to it? Stay tuned.

Who else would you like to see attend the nuptials? Gloria Cerullo (Ellen Travolta), any other blasts from the pasts who should be present? Let us know in the comment section.
