General Hospital's Beloved John Ingle Has Passed Away!

In very sad and heartbreaking news for soap fans, those of General Hospital and his family and colleagues, John Ingle (Edward Quartermaine) died this Saturday according to a Facebook post from his family!
The post read: “John Houston Ingle May 7, 1928 – September 16, 2012 – Father, Husband, Grandan, Great Grandan, Brother, Uncle, Friend, Teacher, Inspirer, Mentor: May You Soar with the Angels. You will forever hold a special place in the deepest corners of our hearts. You were joy, light and love. Goodness at its very best. For the rest of our days, we will all do our best to continue to make you proud. Rest in peace and continue to spread your generous spirit in the heavens above. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. With love forever, from:. your 5 – J. Ingle Belles and the family, friends and loved ones you leave behind.”
When Ingle made his final appearance last week on GH, the family also posted this heart-tugging message on September 10th about his health and how much it meant to him to be part of a GH taping one last time: “As our Dad moves closer and closer to joining our Mom, I thought I would share a bit of much needed “happiness” for the Ingle clan. For those of you that have followed Dad as “Edward Quartermaine” on General Hospital for all these years, I wanted to let you know that Dad was able to return to the set on August 24th, for what will undoubtedly be his last performance on the show. His scene was small and he had very few words…. but his presence on the set was monumental. Beginning with a standing ovation by the entire cast and crew as we entered the set, to the line of people waiting to hug and wish him well, it was a day that he (and we) will remember forever. Several months ago, Dad had said that ” if he only had one more day on the set of General Hospital, he would feel like he had won”…. On that Friday, with the help of one of his caregivers (Anthony), a wheelchair van and 2 of his daughters, (myself and Chrissy), that goal was realized. Entering the set of GH was emotional for Dad and it was obvious why he has loved being there all these years. Chrissy and I joked and said it was the ONLY “Hospital” we have enjoyed visiting since January! Ha! The filming did not take that long and Dad did a good job.”

“The cast and crew were patient and worked with Dad to get a scene that was meaningful. Standing there watching the monitor, we were struck by the reality that it was not Edward Quartermaine who was on the set….it was Dad surrounded by people who love and care about him. It was truly a wonderful afternoon. None of us know what tomorrow holds, but today we will hang onto the memory of August 24th and the love and support that was shown for our Dad. For anyone who might want to see the show, it is being aired tomorrow (September 11th), on ABC at 1:00 p.m. (PST). This is a new time slot for GH, for those of you who watch the show. The producers said it was September 11th, but then we heard that it may be a two-part episode. Might want to set your tivos for both days just to be sure. Last but not least,”Thank You” again to all of our family and friends for your love, prayers and support over these past few months. We truly CAN feel it:-)”
Ingle died at 84 and now will join is beloved wife, Grace Lynn who passed away back in February whom he was married to for 57 years. Before getting into acting full-time, Ingle was a highly regarded acting teacher teach for three decades!

Cameron Mathison Previews New Game Show ‘Beat The Bridge’ (Promo)
As previously reported, Cameron Mathison (Drew, General Hospital) will be seen doing double duty this summer when he premieres in June as the host of Game Show Network’s Beat The Bridge.
Now, while Cameron will be the host with the most, that doesn’t mean he will stop playing GH’s Drew. In fact, Mathison taped the game show in 2023, so it will now air for the first time in 2024.
Taking to his Instagram this week, Cameron shared his enthusiasm and some new hosting snaps, sharing, “Our newest game show host reporting for duty😎 Head over to the Game Show Network YouTube channel for your first look at the show and don’t miss Beat The Bridge premiering this June! I can’t wait for you guys to see this!”

In Beat The Bridge, an enormous interactive bridge dares players to cross by stepping on the right answers to challenging trivia questions. As they play, each steps forward and puts money in their team’s bank, with bonus money for each successful crossing. Here’s the catch: the team gets to keep the money only if it can “beat the bridge” by returning one of its players back across before time expires.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Nina Confronts Ava for Sabotaging Her Relationship With Sonny and Signs the Divorce Papers
Looks like Nina (Cynthia Watros) and Ava (Maura West) are back to be each other’s sworn enemy number one. By the end of the Monday, April 22nd episode of General Hospital, the women know where they stand with each other after Nina goes in on Ava accusing her of wanting Sonny (Maurice Benard) all to herself, while her marriage has been on the rocks.
In story, at Nina’s office, Ava shows up to see Nina and says she is sorry about what happened with Sonny and that he reacted the way he did, acknowledging that is was over the top, even for Sonny. Ava says she’ll smooth things over, but Nina says she now understands how manipulative and transparent Ava really is.
Given their horrible history, Nina goes in on Ava and how she should never have trusted her. Nina wants to know how long has Ava had this agenda dating all the way back to telling Nina to turn Carly (Laura Wright) and Drew (Cameron Mathison) into the SEC. Ava says she never told her do to that, but Nina wants to know how long Ava has been playing her for a fool.

Ava says she moved in with Sonny to keep Avery safe and she wants to be on good terms with Avery’s father, Sonny. Nina thinks she likes being in Sonny’s inner circle. Ava tells Nina if she goes to him about her advising Nina to call the SEC on Carly and Drew, it won’t work. Sonny still considers Nina a traitor and he will think she’s lying because she’s so desperate to win him back. Ava says if Nina would stop blaming everyone else that maybe Sonny would respect her. Nina says “like he does you?” Ava says Sonny not only respects her, but he also counts on her.
From there, Ava launches into why she and Sonny understand each other, after all, Sonny is a powerful, turbulent, and sometimes violent man. She goes so far to say if Nina wanted someone to just sit by the fire with and play with their grandchildren, she’s got the wrong guy. Ava then talks about Mike from Nixon Falls (Sonny with amnesia) and how Sonny hid the darkest parts of himself from Nina back then, whereas with Ava they are the same similar creatures, so he doesn’t have to hide anything.

Nina wants to know just what Ava wants with Sonny? What is her end game? Ava responds that they understand each other, in ways she can’t with Sonny. Nina tells Ava she can go ahead and have it all and signs Sonny’s divorce papers. Ava walks out with the documents, while Nina in tears at her desk, takes off her wedding rings and has her assistant come in so she can messenger the rings back to Sonny’s address.

Ellen Travolta Makes Another Return to General Hospital
If General Hospital’s Chase (Josh Swickard) and Brook Lynn’s (Amanda Setton) nuptials are on, you didn’t think Grandma Gloria Cerullo would miss out on the festivities, now did you?
Casting news from Soap Opera Digest reveals that Ellen Travolta is back taping scenes that will air the week of May 13th on the ABC daytime drama series. When viewers learned that Carmine Cerullo, was also on his way back to Port Charles, now in the face and body of actor George Russo, it only made sense that Grandma Gloria would join Grandpa Cerullo. Look for them both mid-May.
As most people know, Ellen is the older sister to John Travolta. She first make appearances as Gloria back on GH in the mid-90s. Most recently, she returned to the Quartermaine mansion to meet up with daughter, Lois (Rena Sofer) and granddaughter Brook Lynn for Thanksgiving in Port Charles in 2023. Michael Fairman TV interviewed Rena Sofer and Amanda Setton late last year where they shared what it had been liking working with Ellen, who remains very close to Sofer in real-life.

Amanda shared: “We fell in love immediately. What’s crazy is my maternal grandmother was Grandma Gloria. I had her till I was 30 and we were so close. She was really like a second mom to me. So, when I got this script and I’m reading “Grandma Gloria”, it was so bizarre. And then in meeting Ellen, she looks like my grandma – same haircut, same high cheekbones. It really did feel like I had a few days with my grandma. It was very, very special for me. Ellen is sweet, prepared, professional, talented and funny to boot. So, it was one of the best weeks I’ve had at work. I hope she comes back. My fingers are crossed.”

Now, we can’t imagine Brook Lynn and Chase’s wedding day to be smooth sailing, in fact, expect just the opposite, but could it be Grandma Gloria who is ultimately the hero or the calming voice of reason for any pre-wedding jitters? Stay tuned.

He was such a lovely man He will be remembered in my prayers. I am a long time fan of General Hospital. I have watched it since I was in high school in the late sixties.
So sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Ingle (I will always know him as Edward). I loved Edward and Lila………..and enjoyed them on GH for many, many years. It makes me very sad that they are both gone now. My deepest sympathy to him family……………….
A giant of a man in the world of acting, having been a professional one himself for many many decades, as well as offering his immense talent and knowledge in the form of teaching new crops of actors trying to hone the craft.
I’ve only heard beautiful things about Mr. Ingle. May he rest in peace with his beloved wife.
And for the show, we have so few Q’s as it is. This one really stings. Now they HAVE to bring back Alan!!!! We need a patriarch and Alan is the ONLY one that fits the bill! Do the right thing FV!!!

Very sad. He joins all of the other wonderful GH actors that have passed away over the years: John Beradino, Emily McLaughlin, Lucille Wall, Anna Lee and others. They were all a joy to watch.

John Ingle was the second Mr. Q – I couldn’t believe they recast when David Lewis passed, but Mr. Ingle took over the role immediately and never looked back. They both did a great job. Hope they DO NOT recast this time altho’ the Q family is running thin!
Agreed. We fans were blessed with TWO great actors as Mr. Q. No recast please. I believe they tried to recast John Ingle with Jed Alan. A fine actor, but it didn’t work.

I am so sorry to hear of John’s passing. I have been a fan of GH for a long time, and will miss seeing him. I don’t think anyone can replace him as Edward Quartermain. My prayers go out to the family he will be truley missed.
I thought nobody could replace the first Edward Quartermaine (David Lewis), but then here came John Ingle. He made the role his own and was brilliant! RIP Mr. Ingle.
John Ingle will always hold a special place in my heart. He was always nice to meet at the fan gatherings and took the time to speak to you. I will miss him.
The world lost a gentle soul in John Ingle. In the last few years he brought a true sense of love & appreciation to Edward Quartermaine. You could see that he loved Jason & Michael, but in the wisdom of years, he’d learned to accept them & the lives they’d chosen to live but love them all the same. I’ve no doubt that kindness, unconditional love, & sense of family is something that John Ingle personified in life, & it came across in his performance. God Bless & rest in peace.
So very sad!!! Just a few days after that sweet episode aired… had hoped it wasn’t the last we were going to see of John/Edward. He is a truly talented human being and from interviews a lovely man! My sympathies go out to his family and friends and all of his colleagues at GH. We will miss him terribly! Enjoy… John and thank you!!!
(Crying). No celebrity death has had me in tears. John Ingle in his final days reminded me so much of my own dearly-departed Grandfather (complete with the hat). 🙂
What a wonderful legacy Mr. Ingle has had. What a beautiful sentiment and story from his family. No one should be sad. He is with the love of his life now. It must have been so hard for him the last several months without her, but they are together again and I am happy for him. He will be greatly missed on General Hospital. 🙁

“Long before John Ingle stepped into the footlights, he was helping young people realize their acting aspirations as a teacher at Hollywood High School and at Beverly Hills High School. In fact, Mr. Ingle was the founder of the well-respected performing arts departments at both schools.
After he graduated from Verdugo Hills High School — where he was Senior Class President — Mr. Ingle attended Occidental College to study theater and journalism. He graduated from Oxy in 1950 with a degree in theater arts and went on to get his teaching credential a year later. In 1955 he joined the faculty of Hollywood High and also began teaching at Los Angeles City College at night. Mr. Ingle moved to Beverly Hills High in 1964 where he taught performing arts courses for the next 21 years. During his high school teaching days, he also taught classes at UCLA for fifteen years. Among the more famous of his students are Albert Brooks, Nicolas Cage, Richard Dreyfuss, Joanna Gleason, Barbara Hershey, Swoosie Kurtz, Stefanie Powers, David Schwimmer and Jonathan Silverman. Mr. Ingle began his own acting career the same year he retired from teaching.”
Mr. Ingle’s passing will truly be felt throughout Hollywood as he has touched so, so many lives.

OMG! I just saw his last episode last week. What a character was Edward Quartermaine! When John first replaced Edward, I wasn’t sure I’d like him. But he grew to be a wonderful character. With his passing, it seems like I lost my father. He will be missed. My heart goes out to the Ingle family, AND to all the friends and fans of General Hospital. Rest in Peace, Mr. Q! Sincerely, Cat
John Ingle was a terrific character actor. I enjoyed him on Days of Our Lives and General Hospital. It was amazing to learn of Mr. Ingle’s awesome career as an acting teacher and the lives he touched. We will always miss Edward Quartermain on GH. I am so glad the Frank Valentini and the GH family worked to have such a moving final scene for all of us. God Bless John Ingle and his incredible life and family – on and off screen.

my last time I saw him was n hospital when Tracy gave antiodes to Drake’s daughter instead of Edward Quartermaine last week or 2 weeks. I will be miss him dearly, We(sob) will be miss you,old friend(I cried).

When John first took over the role from the original Edward, David Lewis, I thought he is so different. But over the years John became the only Edward to me. His gruff exterior was coveing up the softie he was inside. He will sadly be missed.

John Ingle portraying Edward Quartermaine was one of my favorite rascals on TV. He was ornery as all heck, but there was always that twinkle in his eyes, which was of course a bit of Mr. Ingle shining thru. I will miss them both dearly!
I have been watching GH since my days in college(many years ago) and Edward has always been a pivitol character in all that is GH—John was Edward in every sense of the word–strong yet tender–with always a twinkle in his eye–he will be missed by all who love GH and him!!! May he know all the happiness and pleasure he has brought to so many people for all his years here on earth!
Such an amazing man and actor. He will be sorely missed. So thankful we got to see him one more time on GH. That was a very powerful scene. Condolences to the family.

There can never be another Mr. Q. There are few actors that cannot possibly be replaced and Mr Ingle is one of those. I will miss him. I realize that Mr. Q was only part of the man Mr Ingle; and there are many venues in which he will be missed. The most by far by his family and close friends. Will keep you in prayer.

This MAN will be MISSED, OMG will he be. The comediac tming, the love and protection of his family and great grand-children- You FELT it through the TV screen. He made you a BELIEVER.! The cast felt it, who worked opposite of him. His GH ” children” were also his beloved children.
Listen, I LOVED the 1st Edward Quartermain, David Lewis (didnot like the 2nd) and then John (3rd) came in and I took a liking to him immediately. When he was out sick OR off over on Days (the althernate wasn’t as bad as the 2nd Edward, but now one could replace John BUT David (1st) because these TWO men were exceptional playing this part. Now I don’t know WHAT they will do. With ALL the changes in Daytime TV, and GH, I CAN’T IMAGINE having to ADAPT to not seeing John Ingle. People, I loved….. this man. If you wererfeeling Bad, watch John as Edward. If you’re feelong good, and what to get yyour laugh on, watch John as Edward. This character filled a void and his role was multi-dimentional ( Susan Lucci are you listening) .
I hope they DONT kill off the character because the Quartermain family has about fallen apart. I do….. hope they do a show in his honor showing old clips, and maybe have Tracy dream he has died (which takes us to the old clips) and THAT be the days show, displaying his picture ‘ In Memory of ” at the very end. Then…. after a long search (and very little mention) a new Edward appears, and Tracy tells him, ” I have a dream you died. ” Of course the new Edward shouldn’t appear until around December or January, and mention of Edward (being alive) should only be spoken, SHORTLY beforehand. We need….. this character. Although, I HATE to see another Fantastic Edward Quartermain go.
To John Ingles family: John was a star he on earth. Now, he is a shinning star wth the Greatest Superstar’s of ALL time (fortunate enough to be invited). You are BLESSED ot have the REELS of work and his many dimentions on camera. You are also blessed to have had him so long, and have such an amazing life with him,, especially as an educator. During your time of lost, know that myself, and soooooo many people are sharing the grief. What a blessing, he passed very peacefully, the way everyone wants to go. That maybe a testiment to HOW HE lived his LIFE.

A truly kind, humorous, gentle man so full of life. A pleasure to have met him several times and richer in life for it. Loved hearing him whistling in the halls of the GH studio with that joy for life just emitting from him. Heartfelt sympathy to his families both personal and GH. My heartfelt sympathies go out to John’s family. It was wonderful to get to see John as Edward Quartermaine one last time on my screen. I cried during that episode. He was a wonderful actor as well as a wonderful man. God Bless!
Mr. Ingle’s time on GH was nothing short of amazing. He was a gifted actor, and an integral part of GH. It will be sad to no longer see him as part of the GH family. I was touched by his final performance, especially after reading how it came to be. Thank you to the family for sharing that with his fans. What a beautiful gift to him, the cast/crew and the viewers that he was able to have that last performance, and in such a relevant storyline. Blessings to his family, including his GH family. He will be greatly missed.
So sorry to hear of his passing. He was a wonderful actor & did an amazing job as Edward Quartemaine for years. May he rest in peace with his loving wife, and can say hello to his GH wife Anna Lee,.the lovely Lila Quartermaine. prayers to all his family & friends, he was a wonderful man!
