Genie Francis Talks Her Three-Year Deal With General Hospital & What's Next For Laura!

Genie Francis has truly come home to General Hospital inking a three-year deal with the ABC soap opera. It’s the place she launched her career at 14-years-0ld!

After several stints where Laura was ushered off the canvas, Francis reveals in a new interview at TV Insider that she truly feels the timing is perfect for her to stay put, and that feels so good to be wanted by the legendary daytime drama series again.

During her conversation with Michael Logan, the beloved iconic star talks about Laura’s part in covering up “Jake’s” (Billy Miller) identify, the Cassadine side of her son Nikolas (Tyler Christopher) emerging, and if she knows what is ahead for her character now that she has signed on the dotted line.  Here are a few interesting excerpts below:

Francis on a new love interest for Laura: “Executive producer Frank Valentini wants Laura to have a romance, so I know they’re thinking in that direction. I don’t know if it will be with someone already on the show, or if they’ll bring in someone new. [Laughs] I know nothing! But I’m happy. There’s so much history with Laura. “

Francis on the Jason reveal and covering-up for her on-screen son Nikolas: “This could get worse before it gets better. This is not how Laura raised her children! But, then, Nikolas is the one kid she didn’t raise. Way back, it was so touching that Nikolas, even though he grew up with the evil, crazy Cassadine family, was very sweet, tender, kind. He had Laura’s heart. But in the back of Laura’s mind there’s always been this fear of, ‘God, I hope he never acts like a Cassadine!’ And when he does, it really terrifies her.”

So, glad to hear its a three-year deal for Genie? Who would you like to see be her love interest?  What should Laura do about her son Nikolas?  Will Laura blow the whistle on him and Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst)?  Comment below!

Yes!! That’s awesome news. Now if they would just pair her with Scotty we could see more of Kin Shriner, and some interaction with RH. Throw in Lucy and Bobbie and we could actually see more of characters we really care about!

Interaction with RH? If that means Becky Herbst or Rick Hearst sure. If it means Howarth, which from the context I assume it does, why?

So now we need Genie to try and prop the total flop that is Howarth on GH? Lucy, Bobbie, sure, characters we care about. GH fans don’t care about Howarth and his Franco. We don’t need popular vets constantly given the role of trying to prop duds to keep actors who might have been popular on other shows and failures on GH employed.

It’s great news about Genie, but when you see that Tristan is only coming for a visit, and that other popular Vets like Kevin, Mac, Felicia are kept in the doghouse, we are still going to see a GH that is focused predominantly on failures like Franco, Nina & Kiki as well as Ava, Julian etc.

They’ll bring on Tristan for a visit with KMC, for ratings, admitting that vets attract viewers. So please someone explain to me the logic of not having other vets on contract with Genie, (Rogers,Hearst,York, Wagner,Linsdtrom, Herring etc) and still trying to push their new actors and characters. How does ABC brass look at ratings, see that Vets are brought back to boost them and not ask the EP, why not have them full time instead of all these new people?

You have no idea what you are talking about. Roger is a phenomenal actor and has a huge following including from GH fans. I have watched GH since the late 60s and being a fan doesn’t mean I can’t like actors brought on from other soaps, or their acting talent.

Just because GH wrote a terrible story to bring him in doesn’t take away from his talent, nor does it mean they CAN’T write better going forward. No Genie doesn’t need to prop anyone up, they are all talented in their own right. However, Franco is Scotty’s son and that needs to be played out more. No show is just one actors story. I remember when they brought on the characters of Lucy, (fan uproar) Rick (fan uproar) and others that fans didn’t want but now years later want back.

Yes we all want vets when we can get them, and it’s not all the show, a lot has to do with the actors’ agents and other projects. And if they don’t bring in new characters who exactly will take the show forward when all the actors and actresses everyone clamors for from the 80s retire?

As for Ava and Julian, I like them and their talent, it’s the writers that need to step it up. Maura West is a huge talent going to waste on yet another stupid mob story. They need to put the Hospital back in General Hospital and write better stories for the awesome talent they have.

You can’t force a vet to sign long term contracts that they are not interested in signing.

Howarth is a flop on GH but its because they took away Todd Manning AND he was cursed with playing one of the worst characters ever on GH, FRANCO!

Isn’t it obvious? It’s all about the cash, the newbies will work for cheaper than the vets. They can pay half a dozen new ones for the price of one seasoned vet.

AJQ’s last sentence. This.

Poor Roger–all he had to do today was get upset over his car being side swiped and fetch donuts for Kiki and himself.
He has no job, no friends and no hobbies.

Well, Clh, not sure why you would want to get personal and tell me I have no idea what I’m talking about, guess I hit a nerve, but I’ll try and be more courteous in my response.

First, unless you are at the network or an agent for one or more of the actors, you have no idea whether or not they are available and that there are circumstances keeping them away from GH other than the fact that Frank simply wants a show without them. Jon Lindstrom has on more than one occasion voiced that he would like to work on GH on a regular basis as have other vets. Creating this narrative that they are unavailable, without any evidence, just making it up, is irresponsible.

As for Howarth being phenomenal and having a huge fan base, please. He’s been on GH for almost four years now, if he had such a huge fan base, if he was so phenomenal that people would flock to anything he does, GH ratings not only would be better, but they wouldn’t have been their absolute worst in August when Franco was front and center in the main storyline. August ratings plummeted from June & July and then rebounded in September & October with Franco barely on, maybe he was on three episodes in September and a handful in October. It’s fine to like Howarth for whatever reason, liking Todd, whatever. But this narrative of his super talent is tiresome. Roger has been on TV regularly for over twenty years. He is a known quantity, to networks, casting directors, everyone. In the past few years as he’s looked to branch out, he’s landed two episodes and literally five lines in Californication and a couple of episodes of The Flash. I’d think someone that phenomenal would be more in demand.

haha Harry!!! How does Franco pay for a car anyway? Can we at least get this guy a job?
Agree Timmm — at least Todd had a job.
Either give Franco a real story or get Howarth off the show so he can do something else. This whole Nina/Kiki/Franco story is a waste of my time.

There is NO way out, for TPTB, for GH, OR for Roger with the appalling character that he was saddled with. I am sorry, I am never going to want to see Franco on the show, any more than I would be interested in seeing a comedic play that starred Charles Manson showing off his clown skills, being affectionate with young people who were duped in believing he was their father, having a romance with a nutso, immature child-like creature who belongs in an asylum for good. I GET that Roger got the raw end of this deal, and I am sorry. But I have no interest in seeing him on the canvas and on the days he is on I turn the channel. Period. And the same, minor differences in reasons why, goes for Nina. Just get rid of them.

James R. Poissant

I love your suggestion, especially with the mention of Lucy—I would love to see more of that character since she came back because she is always so hysterical and I love the trouble she gets into.

Anyone but Scottie. Please, please, please…not Scottie. Writers, give Laura someone new. Scottie and Bobbie, great. Scottie and Lucy, great. Laura needs to break free from the Luke AND Scottie connection. Genie fans (myself) know Laura/Genie is capable of great performances if trusted with great material. They’ve already worked and re-worked the Luke and Scottie romances enough. They need not recycle that old stuff. Newer viewers are sick of the Luke/Laura and Laura/Scottie thing. It would be win-win for all viewers if they give Laura someone new. And by new, I mean a totally new cast member. I don’t mean Sonny.

Totally second this one.

nancy dillingham

NO, PLEASE do not pair her with Scotty! Pretty please! Bring her a decent, GOOD man who is her equal. I’m still lobbying for TPTB to bring in James Read (who was so wonderfully evil as Clyde on DAYS. He and Genie appear to be professional, kind, and good people–and they have worked together before–on North and South, and maybe other show. James Read, Genie Francis, and a sweet and tender and funny love story will fill the bill for me! Anyone listening?

nancy dillingham

And may I say that Genie Francis looks like a load has been lifted (read: Tony Geary if off her back!); she looks more relaxed than she has in years–and ready to go “all in” with the character of Laura now. She is glowing and looks peaceful and relaxed. Genie, you deserve it; you’ve waited a long time for this. Enjoy! And let the games (and romance) begin!

Wonderful news ! Genie deserves this… Now it’s up to the writers to
make it work, give Laura a cause, purpose, a career, a GOOD man…

So happy Laura is back. Thank God Geary left so we an finally have her back full time.

Why blame Tony? Was it he that kept her off the show? Did you read the whole article? She was busy raising her kids. She is married to a successful actor. She did work on the Hallmark Channel. She has come full circle. She is back at GH. It was her time, regardless.

other soap journalists have reported that actually TG threw an effing fit at first when he was told she was going to come on for his farewell tour. there definitely seems to be evidence out there that he did not want her back as long as he was there

@ Timmm

It is no secret that Tony Geary wanted a permanent end to Luke and Laura for years. Tony was frustrated because ABC, the writers and the fans insisted that there could be no Luke without Laura. Tony Geary had an incredible amount of influence on GH. I bet Tony Geary was the one who persuaded the writers to put Laura in the catatonic state for all those years.

“Tony was frustrated because ABC, the writers and the fans insisted that there could be no Luke without Laura… ” Actually, that was TONY himself who insisted as much when he was told that Bill Eckert was out and that GH was only interested in Luke. Tony said he couldn’t do Luke without Laura, to which ABC responded by having Genie fired from All My Children so that she would come back for Laura. And yes, it WAS reported that Tony threw a fit when Genie was asked back for his exit story. Not to mention that he changed his mind about retiring in 2013 because the story line had Luke and Laura getting together.

That said, fans have wasted more than enough time and energy thinking about Luke. Now it’s Laura’s turn. I hope that the character gets a great story line that doesn’t only entail babysitting and becoming involved in her kids’ lives. She should have a great romance, a great mystery, a good life with her family and a prominent place on the canvas. Because with the ratings that the show is garnering these days, it seems to be a make or break period here.

nancy dillingham

Yes (and it stretches credulity to hear myself say this–as I used to be the most die-hard fan of Tony Geary’s acting–but he lost himself–and me–there at the end)–glad that spector is no longer hanging over Genie’s head like the sword of Damocles).

Buddy Brown

I am just so happy, that now FINALLY, the life of Laura will be allowed to unfold for years to come!!!

Yes. They could do SO much. What did Laura do in Paris for all those years? Or -she could go back to her work as a social counselor at the hospital. or – she could try to find out what happened to little Jake when he was on Cassadine Island, and unwittingly come across information pointing to Helena meddling with Ethan Lovett’s paternity tests. Then she could inform Robert that Ethan really IS his son.

For starters.

Hi, Elizabeth,
Re: Howarth. You hit the nail on the head. I do appreciate the word ‘saddled’, which best describes the situation/role in which Roger finds himself. I have that residual, everlasting love for both him and Michelle Stafford. I guess I am loyal to the bone….small bones, at that, but sturdy, nonetheless. Lol. These are such demeaning roles they both had the misfortune of encountering. But, hey, everyone needs to work. I still hope, in my heart of hearts, that these pathetic roles will be developed and cultivated to more mature storylines and settings. However, at the same time, I do not know if these characters can be salvaged.
I wish I could give my two-cents-worth about this commotion concerning Genie and Tony. I know not of their history, except what I have read on the Internet or on these boards. I love Genie from Y&R and from her LIFETIME movie(s). As for Tony, the Fluke character obscured and distorted my view of him. Not fair, right? However, I cannot deny his talent….he is one of the best soap actors ever. His interviews? Dignified! Was there really such a struggle between him and Genie? I can’t say. However, I know from experience, albeit my short life, that ‘things’ are almost always precipitated into disproportionate nonsense. You know what I mean, Elizabeth?….he said, she-kind-of-thing.
Furthermore, short, little sentences are magnified into short stories with misconstrued messages. Later.

This is absolutely wonderful news that Genie has a three year contract, finally ABC gets it! We want Laura.
Okay, Su0000 doesn’t, right? (she’s new to her, right Su0000?)

Hopefully, Laura will have a compelling story. And, I’m all for a NEW love interest for Laura if done well.
It’s Laura’s turn. Luke has literally left the building. Bring it Genie! BRING IT.

This has made Su0000’s day.

I didnt want Luke and Laura back together. If him leaving gave her the green light to return, so be it. I believe should would have returned, regardless. I think the problem with that is they are expensive to employ and the fans wouldnt accept them loving other characters if they were BOTH on the show at the same time.

nancy dillingham

And we all know that Genie can truly BRING IT–when she is given material to work with and does not feel restrained–let it all hang out, Genie–and bring back that spunky, funny Laura that I and so many others cherish. Take back your POWER and your character. Go, Genie–I will watch!

Nick D.

This really proves Geary was the one who didn’t want her on the show – not TPTB. She’s been very diplomatic about the whole thing but it could not be clearer – the minute he leaves she gets a 3 year deal (yes, I know it’s been a few months, but reportedly she asked for the summer mostly off before she started back full time).

Eileen Hargis

I said all along Tony didnt wsnt to work with her and tptb went along with it. But everyone said I was wrong. Nice for the truth to come out

What a load of crap, source please!

Eileen Hargis

Sources???? Do you not read Genie’s interviews?? She said several times she believed Tony didnt want her on the show, so many times that when they called her to come back and work with him on his exit and stop his engagement to Tracy, she asked ” are YOU sure Tony is ok with my returning? Because she was sure he didnt want her there. This cant be a surprise ti you.

nancy dillingham

Totally agree! First thing that came to mind when I read the news. Shame on Tony Geary. I personally don’t miss him one bit.

Tony doesnt miss you either!

Uhhhhh…..cite your sources or keep the trap shut if you don’t know the facts.

nancy dillingham

Nor I–again, can’t believe I’m saying this, but it is true. What happened to Tony Geary and to the tender, funny, romantic character he took so much care crafting so many years ago?? Would love to ask him but, alas, he doesn’t “CARE WHAT FANS THINK.”

Michael (not Fairman)
Michael (not Fairman)

I’m not quite sure it “proves” it, Nick D. The link could be there, but less direct: now that Geary is gone, it’s also true that there’s a significant amount of actor salary money that has been freed up and can be used for another veteran like Genie (as opposed to a cheaper newcomer). So maybe Geary’s departure made Genie’s contract financially feasible.

But I’ll agree: it’s suspicious.

If Genie’s contract means it’s at least three years before we see Geary back, that’s fine with me.

Geary had nothing but respect for Genie, as he’s stated in dozens of interviews, he always wanted them to work together. But you did hit on a good point though, he was paid crap-load of money, along with all the other vets who have returned. Personally I’d rather see half of the newbies gone, and the vets stick around and actually have a storyline.

Michael (not Fairman)
Michael (not Fairman)
Geary says a lot of things, however, Michelle. He’s also said he did not want to go back to Luke and Laura and told L&L fans they needed to “get over it and move on” (I may have the exact wording wrong, but that’s close). So it’s entirely possible that–independent of how he may or may not have felt about Genie personally or professionally–he asked the show not to have her back permanently because he felt there’d be no way to escape Luke and Laura if she did come back. Genie even said that when the producers called her about coming back for Geary’s departure, she asked them “Are you sure Tony wants me to come back?” And given how diplomatic Genie has been throughout the years in her interviews, that says a lot. On your point about dumping newbies and focusing on vets, I am SO with you, but I think the logistics work against it. I’ll make up numbers here, but regardless of what the real numbers are, the point’s the same. Suppose your annual salary budget is $10 million, or about $40K per episode. Let’s say it takes an average of 15 actors to fill an hour show. If vets get, say, $5K per episode, but newbies get $1.5K (it must be more than that now, but that’s what it was back in the late 90s-early 2000s, which is the last time I saw a minimum salary figure for soap actors), you start to see why a significant number of performers on the show are going to have to be newbies. (As I said, I’m sure the numbers I used are wrong, but the point stands regardless of what the real numbers are.) Valentini has the job (over JFP) at least partly because he was well known during his time at OLTL for sticking to his budget (and JFP was always over hers, so with GH’s ratings declining and OLTL’s rising at the end, it was an obvious choice); he’s smart enough to realize, I’m sure, that he needs to continue that to stay employed. I am surprised we have as many vets around as we do, frankly, though obviously I’d love to have more. The newbies largely have not made the grade and are not interesting. To make room for people like Tristan Rogers et al. (i.e., real GH vets) or putting somebody like Leslie Charleson back on contract, the cuts would have to be in people who aren’t GH vets, specifically, but who are soap vets and command a commensurate salary: Miller, Stafford, Howarth, West, DeVry. (That’s probably why Michael Easton lost his job rather than some of the fluffier and less-talented younger set; he was also not working for cheap. I also wonder if that’s the real story behind Grayson McCouch’s departure.) As long as there’s a perception that these people are contributing to the ratings, I doubt that’s going to happen. It’s (in my opinion) one gigantic mismanaged mess (example: hiring someone as… Read more »

No it doesn’t. OMG where do people dig this crap up. When Genie married Jonathan Frakes in ’88 THEY decided she would stay home with the kids. Then she also opened a furniture business she needed to run. Her daughter has just entered college and Genie decided now would be a good time to go back to work.

Finally, someone who gets it!

Genie Francis has been trying to come back to this show since 2006. And she didn’t want to leave in 2002 really. She left because they refused to respect her the way they did Geary. Please. You act as if you know her personally.

knitter 1

Finally. A voice of reason!

Clh, Genie has said many times in the last 10 years or so that she wanted to come back to GH on a permanent basis. And yet, she was never offered a contract, she was just trotted out from time to time to generate ratings.
That is where folks get this “crap” And I don’t hear anyone saying they know this is a fact, but as Michael (Not Faitrman) says, the timing is rather suspicious.
It’s hard to think that Genie would have been offered a contract had Geary not retired. And as much as I have revered Tony Geary all these years I am afraid I agree with the others–I don’t miss him. Not even a little bit.

Yep, has nothing to do with Geary. Francis could have been on the job and Luke & Laura could have not been paired. She wanted to be a mom and raise her kids. Her husband is very successful and she didn’t need to be on GH full time. Now, hopefully it’s her time to shine with or without Geary. I just hope they give her HER own storyline and not a backdrop for her kids for 3 years

nancy dillingham

My goodness, seems like you are assuming a lot and stating it as fact. I prefer to listen to the person most affected–Genie herself.

Genie pretty much confirmed in so many words in a number of interviews in recent years that the reason she wasn’t on GH for so many years was because of Jill Farren Phelps. She never mentioned her specifically by name, cause she’s too classy of a lady for that. But it’s well known that she and JFP didn’t get along.

When JFP got fired from GH and went to Y&R, Genie was on that show if I recall correctly, and what happened? They got rid of the character. Not exactly a coincidence. I suppose that was Tony Geary’s fault too, right?

The people that wanna blame Tony Geary for Genie not being on GH are giving him power that I don’t think he had. He certainly had control over what storylines he did or didn’t do, but I don’t believe for a second that he had the power over who GH hired and didn’t hire. He may not have wanted to do the whole Luke & Laura thing anymore, but I don’t believe that he would have prevented Genie from being on the show.

All of this aside, I’m very glad Genie will be sticking around the show for years to come. Laura has always been one of my favorite characters since the day I started watching the show, and I’m very excited to see what they have in store for her.

Dan, JFP does have her favorites, right? And if you’re not one of her favorites, look out! She not only had Genie written off the show, she had her character humiliated by every character who inhabits Genoa City. Suffice to say it was not a graceful exit. I swear, I think even Summer screamed at her for absolutely no reason and Victor’s dog peed on her leg (whatever happened to that dog?).
I think Sharon is also not on Jill’s favorite list as she has been put into an asylum and we barely see her at all.
Hmmm. has anyone ever seen JFP and Su000 in the same room?

Michael (not Fairman)
Michael (not Fairman)

But Genie herself has said, multiple times, that JFP is not the problem. In the case of Y&R, Genie’s character was perceived as one of many that were fairly new to the show, played by actors commanding a substantial salary, but not really clicking with the audience (an opinion many Y&R viewers would share). She’s also consistently said, I think, in regard to GH, that the holdup was ABC, not JFP.

It always makes me feel strange when I have to do something that sounds like defending JFP (because I think she manages to wreck her shows by having some very bad habits that counteract any good she may do, and on the whole I’m not a fan), but in this case, I think she’s not the one to blame, because Genie has so pointedly said it’s not so (whereas when Genie wants to deflect and be diplomatic, she’s masterful at doing so).

Ah, Tony has been gone for more than a minute!

Kelley Lynn

Laura deserves a juicy love story, and I would love to see her with Robert Scorpio!!! Either that,or someone completely new, maybe a bit younger than her, someone exciting and different. I also hope she will be there for Lulu right now after this whole mess has gone down with Dante cheating. Lulu needs her mom. So happy Genie is back. She is great.

I like the idea of her being paired with someone a bit younger. Please, please, please do not pair her up with Scotty again.

I so agree with you Harry. Sick of the Scottie and Laura pairing. Bring on a totally new cast member for Laura’s love interest.

Hello Harry… I totally agree paring Laura yet again with Scotty
would be redundant not too mention an epic fail….Isn’t this a
fresh start after all.

nancy dillingham

Amen, Harry! I second the emotion! LOL!

Awwwww…I love Scotty!

It just DOES NOT get any better than this for this long-time GH fan. With a few tears of joy in my eyes, let me say “WELCOME HOME GENIE!!!!!”

Jenny Brooks

I’m very glad she’s back! I hope they keep her in the vein of smart, powerful women on GH like Anna Devane and Tracy Quartermaine. But she also is needed as a moral compass for her children, especially Nikolas. Whoever her love interest becomes, I just hope it isn’t Scotty. We’ve been there and done that.

nancy dillingham

“Moral compass,” yes! Laura’s basic goodness shines through any plotline–as does Genie’s. I’m a fan forever.

Nancy, Laura had some great scenes with Lizzy today as she urged her to tell the truth because she cannot predicate her marriage upon this enormous lie.
Genie was really good in those scenes as she told Lizzy that she loves her like a daughter and is worried about her.
She also looked beautiful.

Su must be furious! 🙂

Margie, just you wait–Su will come in here spouting off all this nonsense about Laura not being a GH vet or a legacy character.
I am tapping my foot just waiting.

hi Harry..
I already have, and she is not of vet status 🙂
bwa! she’s not 3ven a 10 yearer .. lol

Suoo, read the article–she started working on GH when she was FOURTEEN YEARS OLD! She has earned vet status and then some.

Andy G.

Indeed, Harry; she gave up her childhood to GH, and if it hadn’t been for the extensive hours she worked in front burner story lines at such a tender age, GH probably wouldn’t have survived to its 20th anniversary, let alone its 50th. Perhaps her contributions and sacrifices haven’t earned her the mighty Su’s respect, but she certainly has mine!

hi Harry..
It is not about her age when she entered GH, it is about her years with GH (not 10 yrs lol)

hi Andy G .. I have not and do not disrespect the woman, Genie..
I do not care about her personal life or her ”contribution” to care lol ..
I merely put up her bio, her years with GH, as to vet status set by soap fans as over 10 yrs to 15yrs and said she was not of vet status being under 10yrs.

Well Su0000, that’s your opinion, and yours alone. Embrace it, revel in it. The rest of the world knows Genie as a GH vet. Given that she was on in significant story lines for the years of 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1998. 1999, 2000 and 2001, along with key sweeps periods in 1982-1983, 1984, 1993, 2006, 2008 and 2013 I’d say that she easily surpasses ten years’ time on the show. By YOUR own admission as to what constitutes a soap vet.

Game, set and match.

Of course, Harry. You just about begged su for a response….she fell for it; hook, line and sinker! Ha! You instigator, you. LOL. Poor su. At least, I know you like to tease, Harry. Can’t say the same for others.

Jimh(leave it to beaver)
Jimh(leave it to beaver)

I wouldve loved Ned or Kevin with Laura…hopefully its not someone with mob ties…on a different topic lets bring back Steven Webber…Liz could use her bro and GH is in deperate need of a doctor with Silas dead and Patrick eventually leaving…hey, pair Laura and Steven together…that certainly would drive Heather nuts…oops, too late!…lol

If they were to bring Steven back ( he has a recurring role on Nashville these days)
he’d probably end up with Olivia, weren’t they hot and heavy before his prison sentence.

Jimh(leave it to beaver)
Jimh(leave it to beaver)

they could recast

Okay, Jimmy….now, I am confused; again. I barely know Steven…he left soon after I started watching. I know he was Olivia’s boyfriend and Heather’s son, which makes him Franco’s brother. So, you are saying that Steven and Lizzie are siblings? Hmmmm.
Lol, your last sentence is subtly hilarious. Sometimes your little funny jabs are hidden, Jimmy. Lol.

Jimh(leave it to beaver)
Jimh(leave it to beaver)

Steve was the son of Jeff Webber and crazy Heather Webber…Jeff divorced Heather and remarried after leaving town sometime later…he remarried and had two daughters: Liz and Sarah….so Liz and Steve are half siblings…Steve was once involved with Dantes mom, Olivia!

@jimh(leave it to beaver)
Thanks, Jimmy. I had no idea! Good to know.

See yah Tony Geary…HELLO GENIE! The true heart of the history of this show is back and SO long overdue! A tremendous actress with so much to offer that it’s a welcome breath of fresh air. Now…please, do NOT put her back with Scotty…that story is played out and done to death. Give her a love interest that will bring out the dynamic electricity she had with Geary…new or old to the show, anyone but Scotty!

Hi Joe//
Genie walked out of GH left after 6 yrs,
Tony gave his all, 3 decades to GH..

Eugenie Ann “Genie” Francis Frakes (born May 26, 1962)

(Loving 91)

She returned to General Hospital in 1993 – 1994, when Francis became pregnant the pregnancy was written into the show and she took six weeks off for maternity leave. However in early 1997, when she was pregnant again, she took a much longer absence from the show, staying away for nearly a year and a half.
Francis abruptly left General Hospital in 2002 due to contract issues.

Seems her GH fame came from her time with Tony and their wedding.

Oy, Suooo!

Here she goes again. If Suoo owns a parrot, this is what she is spouting off before she says,”Polly wants a cracker—awwwkk!”

I love gh

You are too funny!

I don’t understand your point to her bio. Unless you work for ABC or are her agent, you don’t know the reasons why she left when she did. AND your precious Tony Geary left the show for years as well. He only came back when he couldn’t make it the nonsoap world. At least Genie has. But who cares?? I don’t begrudge any actor from wanting to try new things. Just don’t sit there and poop all over one persons career when they all do it. REMEMBER, from her OWN interviews, Genie was NEVER valued on any level during her times on GH. I would have left as well…preganant or not. WHO CARES! She’s back now!

nancy dillingham

Suu, don’t forget that Tony Geary left for 8 years initially, to make it in the movies. When that plan failed to materialize, he came back–and persuaded Genie to return in 1993–he and his writing partner even developed the return of Luke and Laura after the business with the diner in Canada. And, most importantly, TPTB (ABC) fired Genie from AMChildren, told her she was”more important” to them as Laura. Talk about a bittersweet return for Genie; yet she was professional and maintained her dignity and played her heart out. That’s class.

nancy dillingham

And, TG was off 6 months each year; thus, his time was cut in half.

I guess I have to be more polite in pointing out the mathematical shortcomings of other posters so as to pass the moderators.

Genie was on from 1976 – 1982 (6 years, four months roughly )
also from 1993 – 2002 (nine years give or take. Deduct her six weeks plus 1.5 years, call it an even two years). So, say seven years. That is thirteen years, four months, PLUS sweeps periods in 1983,1984, 2006, 2008 and 2013.

A vet by ANY and EVERY standard.

Eileen Hargis

Genie is a vet, give it up!!

Geary left GH in 83 , came back for the Mexico adventure in 84 and was gone for 10 years. He came back in ’93 with Genie. Genie was there before Geary and she is there after Geary. Period.

Joe hate to break the news to you BUT there is no history without BOTH Genie and TONY!

DISagree. Sorry TIMMMM, but there was a show before Geary and there will be one after. Just happy to see Genie join the ride.

Not necessarily together. Both actors made an impact on the show and for daytime history in general. I love then both!

Genie deserves to be back oh GH if the writers do her s/l justice. Genie was always the center of trouble and things orbited around her. That is the magic of using her on GH. Not some insipid mom/grandmother with no life and being the supporting role. She needs a project (with or without a man) to get swept up in another adventure.

hi Mickie..
You are thinking of GH in a different era.
Ginie was a young, real young. She is a grandma now. Those days are long gone LOL
I do not understand how she ”deserves” to be back, she left and isn’t even vat status of 10-15 years LOL ohh geez.
There are many who stayed with GH much much longer than 6-10 years like Genie .
I don’t get it.. must still be the wedding fame ..

Suooo, why do you keep coming to the board spewing untrue nonsense about Genie Francis? I guess if your goal is to be noticed, you have succeeded.

hi Tristan it is true.. All, I said was; she is not of vet status lol
Soap fans, apparently, acknowledge vets as over 10 years most say 15 years, Laura was not even with GH 10 years, about 8 years…
I posted her GH years 🙂

Not everyone is going to worship her, many do not even know of her lol, geez it’s been over 3 decades. ..
just saying .. 🙂

((and– she left in 1987, left by her choice
then she left again 2000, left by her choice (not very GH loyal lol 😉
ohh then she left 2 other times PG she was ..
And she went to other soaps, also. (Days, OLTL, AMC, Y&R and Loving.
Just the BIO stuff as to her career..

I heart Tristan

Su?..everyone’s entitled to an opinion. But you are combative and redundant and it’s annoying. Stop bringing age into every conversation about the vets who come back. As you have pointed out, Laura was a big deal on GH. Doesn’t matter whether YOU weren’t born yet, in diapers, or taking your SATs. It’s not about you, it’s not about those who didn’t watch then.

Genie Francis is loved by many fans. Period. there are those who have been wanting her return for years…she’s a big part of many lives in Port Charles. Lucky, Lulu and Nic’s mom. Luke’s love, Scotties love, Elizabeth’s ex mother-in-law who she’s still very close with. Bobby’s ex sister-in-law, the object of Cassadine obsession….on and on and on.

As GH evolves and incorporates new stories and characters, the crux of a soap is continuity. Families, friends, history. You don’t just ignore all that because certain demographics of an audience aren’t familiar with the stories or characters…you embrace them, enrich the show and bring new viewers into the fold. If you don’t want to go along for the ride…don’t watch…as you’ve suggested to so many viewers who weren’t happy with stories and characters that YOU like.

I don’t know how old you are. I don’t care. But perhaps you need to realize that being a grandparent doesn’t make someone “old.” Being 50-something doesn’t make someone old,

You and several other posters need to broaden your horizons and look beyond your own experience. Laura is a relatively young, attractive, intelligent, compassionate woman. She’s going to have a relationship, just like Alexis, Anna, Scotty, Kevin, Silas, Franco, Nina, Julian, Ava, all these current or past characters who are in their 40s and 50s. Don’t know why that’s such a difficult concept for you and several others to grasp.

WE are looking forward to Laura’s return. There are a lot of “we.” If you and others aren’t looking forward to her return because you’re not familiar with her, that’s understandable. If you’d like to get to know a character that is a great part of the history of a show that you claim to love…get to know her. Or don’t. But your lecture got “old” a long time ago.

She’s infamous. When someone speaks of irrational internet commenting in other places it’s called a suism.

Just wait until Robert Scorpio returns. “He is not a lagacy character and I have the amount of days he’s appeared on screen researched!”

nancy dillingham

Suuu, you just need to “bone up” on GH’s REAL history! Bless your heart! LOL!

Yay, Rebecca!
Well said–bravo.

Su0000 will you shut up already here’s genie history with GH

Genie Francis
December 28, 1976 to January 15, 1982; November 14, 1983 to December 27, 1983; November 9, 1984 to December 11, 1984; October 29, 1993 to September 6, 2002; October 26, 2006 to November 22, 2006; August 26, 2008 to November 12, 2008; February 11, 2013 to August 28, 2013

Eileen Hargis

This 10 year thing is crap. A vet is anyone on a show long enough to establish playing a character and has built up a large fan base.

I agree – no meddlesome mother/ grandmother stories for Genie.
And please don’t put her back into Scott’s orbit – that ship sailed ages ago.
But most definitely give her a juicy story line.

nancy dillingham

Yes, very “juicy”!

Hi, Lisa.
Finally, someone who brings a little peace and quiet to this board. I have contracted a huge headache reading these comments. WOW!!!! I could almost hear the squawking…LOL….don’t kill me with words, please!!!! Kidding, honest!!
Why can’t we just be happy about Genie and ignore the naysayers? I, for one, opened a bottle of champagne to celebrate Genie’s return. LOL. Way back when, I hoped and prayed this beautiful, soft-spoken lady would stay on a permanent basis.
I do not like seeing her talent wasted on doing laundry for screwed-up Miss Lizzie or as the dutiful grandmother babysitting her grandchildren……nor should she jump into a relationship as soon as possible. We have Alexis for that; and Sam.
Laura is a vibrant, loving woman who should be given the opportunity to ‘shop’ around. I do agree with you about Scotty, Lisa. As much as I like him, he is so rough around the edges. Beauty and the Beast? Nah!!!! Let’s give her some time before hooking her up with just anybody. Laura is a lady. We will not see the display of skin and debauchery as some other characters on this show. Everything she does, will be done with taste and decency. Genie/Laura knows not to act half her age and to dress with decorum.
Su, you know how much I love Genie. I fell for her since Genevieve. She is an angel. But, I will not bash you, susu. You’re my girl, no matter how much I disagree with you about Genie. Chin up.
Lisa, Genie/Laura definitely deserves a juicy storyline. I never really had the chance to see Genevieve with a nice guy at Y&R, so it would be such a treat to see Laura with someone who appreciates her. ….too bad Silas is gone. ‘Night.

nancy dillingham

Genie is indeed the show’s “true heart.” (See, I told you I was a “forever fan.”)

lol Rebecca1..
wow! involved much lol
You can love Laura to pieces but never tell me to agree with your love for the character.
Not all know of Laura and not all care for her as much as you want all to think and see her as you do 🙂
I posted her bio .. said nothing about the woman, I could care less of her personal life, I do not like her/the character..
She reminds me of the busy body snoopy Gladys Kravitz … lol

SuKravitz. Perfect.

Thanks, Harry! Unfortunately it’s like talking to a wall…lol.

Oh…and Su? One more thing…you to me: ” involved much?” You MUST be kidding! You? You,,,who researches statistics, years, dates to make a point not many agree with…but, lol…you’re asking me if I’m ” involved much?” Too funny.

Lou Piikes

Congrats on your three year deal with General Hospital Genie.

I so love the character of Laura, however, she really never was around for her children. Poor Poor LuLu, sure could use a Mama now.

I’m glad Michael Logan didnt mention Luke. Its time to move on. Someone suggested her and Scotty. PLEASE! I love Kin but let Laura fall in love with someone totally different! The key to making Laura stand on her own is give her a place to be. Maybe she works at Julian’s publishing company or The Metro Court. She also needs her own place or have her and Bobbi room together. What happened to that Brownstone project Michael was working on? Or move in with Monica. She has a mansion. Tracy would love that! Laura needs to be seen!

Completely and totally AGREE!!!

Fanny; my lovely, lovely lady. Never a harsh, demeaning word. When I see your name, mine eyes smile. I bet you’re a lot like Laura. Mais, oui, bien sur, Mme.

Maybe, dear Fanny, the letter could be the deed to Kelly’s, as you say. But, what if it’s a safety deposit box key? Maybe Luke left her millions. But, I hope it’s a love letter. Luke professes his undying love and is giving her a chance to think about it, then join him in the all-enveloping fog to paradise. Isn’t that more meaningful than money? What about both? That’s even better, oui?
Later, ma belle.

@CeeCee Sweetest… It could end up being as you say…priceless in more
ways than one. Delightful as always, later Angel.

Thank you.

nancy dillingham

Maybe she can BUY Julian’s publishing company–or start one of her own! Or take over Kelley’s or do anything she wishes to do!

Whatever happen too the unopened envelope Lulu gave Laura
from Luke???? Maybe he SMARTLY bequeathed Kelley’s to her.

I think Luke and Bobbi are co-owners and she may not want anything to do with the diner. Good idea, though.

Oh, yes, Timmm. I would love, love, love for Laura to work with Julian. Fall madly in love with each other and leave Alexis in the dust. What say you? Oh, c’mon, guys, lighten up. So much doom and gloom. Gimme some of your sardonic responses, Timmmbo.
Holy moly! Didn’t realize the time. See ya later. Luv-ya.

COMING SOON, more sardonic responses, I promise! The doom and gloom is because I think, and this is just my opinion, some people feel Tony held Genie down in her career. Tony kept Genie off of GH. I dont know. We dont know. Yes he was powerful and put 37 years at ABC, I’m sure they respected him and listened to him. But people, if Tony “Held” Genie down, did it hurt her? NO! She did a lot of other projects. Maybe Tony was a bit jealous that Genie could be somebody else other than Laura? Who knows. She has had a wonderful career. On top of that she raised kids and raised them well. Both her and Tony are happy now and have shared a ton of success. Yes it is Genie’s time now. BUT, I would find it hard to believe if she had ever wanted to come back before she could have. ALOT of things happened in between the adventures of Luke and Laura. In the end, Tony didnt dislike Genie, he disliked Luke and Laura. He wanted to move on from that and the fans wanted them to live happily ever after. MAYBE that was the sole reason Tony didnt want Genie around is because he would be faced with the same old set up where Luke and Laura find each other again and take Rocco to the park for walks! He didnt want that. And yes his hands were in his farewell story and why not? He played the character for over three decades, he should have a say. And, even in his farewell, the fans wanted him and Laura to ride into the sunset. GH Luke and Laura fans, be thankful for unanswered prayers, Laura didnt ride into the sunset with Luke, she is right in front of all your faces. If we cant have them both, I’ll take one or the other. I want Laura to fall for Paul. Sorry Cee but it would be Laura’s revenge on Lukes relationship with SPANKY BUNS!

Hey, Timmm.
I am certainly not qualified to speak on these issues. By the same token, unless the handful of viewers who are so adamant in believing that Tony disrespected Genie in any way, have personal, first hand information? Well, neither do they know for sure this to be fact.
I think what you suggest; that is, Tony was tired of fans being enamored of ‘the institution of Luke and Laura’. Oh, I get it! I also think that those who still live and re-live that L&L romantic era wanted so badly to resuscitate that indelible emotional vision.
As yourself, Timmm, I find the notion that Tony did not want Genie on board very autocratic and immaturish. Again, who really knows?
Oh, me, oh my, Timmm!! Laura and that tom-cat, Paul? She’s so angelic….I won’t go as far as calling her pure, lol, (well, not of body, but of mind) but Genie/Laura could play the Madonna in the next Christmas movie. Look closely, Timmm. She could pass as one of Andrea del Sarto’s paintings. Si?.
But, yes; the idea of a liaison between L&P would put some fire in Tracy’s strange frocks….enough to flip her lid. Tit for tat?….which brings me to the obvious query: why SPANKY BUNS?? Does Luke have a ‘buns’ fetish? HaHa. Later….

I haven’t watched GH in 10 years; but, this is excellent news. Congratulations to Genie Francis. She is a very powerful actress. In an article from several years ago, Genie commented that she is finished playing “the victim.” I hope the TPTB realize that and give her stories that utilize her strength and intelligence.

haa! Dear Harry-
Genie was with GH in 1976
If one was born in 1976 he/she would be 39 today and a toddler watching GH.

If born in 1966 he/she be 10 years old watching GH and 49yrs old today..

Genie left GH in 1981/82 if you were born there abouts you’d would be 34 today.
That was over 3 decades ago! and 4 yrs old during her exit.

Anyone now watching GH in the demo of 18- 45, may never had seen the Laura eara. most were too young or not yet born.

And– Not every one now watching GH have seen Luke & Laura to really care and Genie would be a newbie (outside of her wedding fame or being in other soaps as other characters)
There are numerous others who watched AMC and OLTL who came to GH after they were canceled, if they were not also watching GH they would not have seen the Luke and Laura years (but most likely the wedding.
Genie is a newbie in my world, and I am not alone 🙂

I do not hate the Laura character, I just don’t see the worship of her being with GH 6 years and left one year after the wedding in 1982 LOL ..
Perhaps she will grow on me, never know..

Oh, now you’re picking on us because we are old? Suooo, you’re a sill!

Either Su000 is very very young or she is very very old and cheating at Bingo in the dinning hall. Either way there is no winning in attempting to argue with her.
It’s akin to playing tennis with someone who cannot play. This person keeps hitting the tennis ball out of bounds and screaming victory or BINGO!

Harry…hahahahaha…that lil analogy cracked me up!

oops .. eara?? lol = era .

aha! Tristan, no.. I’d never pick on the good people herein.. 🙂
Just making the point there is 2.5?? million viewers, and all in the coveted 18-45 yrs were too young or not yet born to see/go through the Laura era to know her, so that makes her like a newbie to us LOL ..

Hi Harry..
you bad mouth some I love, Franco for one.
You always bash Franco lol
I leave you have it and do not jump on you for hating him.
give me the same courtesy when I put up numbers of ones GH career as to vet status 🙂
What I posted were the numbers of her GH bio, 🙂 years she was on GH and her era was 3 decades ago and not all know of her / facts
.. just putting up the numbers
didn’t know it would upset you 🙁

Nice try with the demographics and an attempt at a history lesson but, girl please. This 43-year-old (me) came home from school every day and watched General Hospital with my mom from 1979 thru 1983. I remember Laura with Scottie. I remember the rape at the Campus Disco. I remember Richard Simmons teaching “exercise class” at the campus disco for crying out loud. I remember the Left Handed Boy story. I remember the Ice Princess Story. I have fondest memories of the rundown apartment building LnL lived in on separate floors. Good dialog, exceptional improv. Incredible creative freedom the actors were allowed by Gloria Monty. Forget the wedding. Laura’s return story was much more climactic. I guess you never saw the interview Laura Wright gave (she is only 2 years older than me) saying she jumped off her couch and cheered at the tv during Laura’s return episode in 1983. Not everyone really gives a rip about the wedding. It’s the media and talk shows that air that clip as if it were the only scene they ever had together.

Young people will love Laura . She’s awesome and the show is sorely lacking in women who are not sociopaths.

I love gh

I love the Laura character, so I’m biased. Still, you make a good point about her lack of screen time compared to other vets. I think a lot of her presence is linked to her children and grandchildren being present all these years. GH would not be GH without them, so it’s hard to not associate Laura as a long-standing character.

nancy dillingham

And, for anyone in the 18-45 age category–that’s their LOSS. Go to youtube, watch Genie in GH’s heyday– and join the party!

Been there, done that. I do not research every character; only those whom I love. Genie happens to be one of them. Everyone , young or old cannot think of Laura without Luke and vice versa. This was the IT couple of the 80’s. I know that….everyone knows that. Luke/Tony became a soap icon because of Laura. From everything that I have read, that was the main theme….at least, that’s what I took from it. Laura/Genie propelled, if you will, Luke, the character, to a higher level; and launched Tony’s career. In my humble opinion, Geary would not have made it without the Laura character. He became more visible because of Laura. I am not saying he would have never reached that pinnacle….but, I am certain, it would have taken much longer. And, he was already in his thirties.
Timmm, are you going to reprimand me? LOL.
Su does not see it this way. She is allowed to think and say what she will. There is no good reason to be jocular and question her intelligence in the field of Mathematics or otherwise. Not you, Nancy. You have been very gracious….You cannot imagine how much I appreciate that. As has Timmm. I have noticed he has been ‘nudged’ a couple of times. But, he rises above it and responds politely. It does not take that much effort to be nice to each other. We do not tell each other to shut up. We are supposed to be vocal, with a modicum of respect.

Su remembers Gladys Kravitz. Bingo. She’s no spring chicken.

hi Margie..
On TV .. Decades ran a bewitched marathon.. and also on ME TV and others..
Bewitched is still airing 🙂

@Margie…good catch! 🙂

My nieces who are 9, 7 and 6 know who Mrs Kravitz from BEWITCHED is, Margie. And, these girls are definitely spring chickens. What does that have to do with it? The show still runs. No big mystery there. I am assuming you said that in jest, yes? ME-TV offers shows from the 50’s, 60’s etc. I do not agree with Su assimilating Laura/Genie to that busybody comedic character. But, that’s how she sees her. It’s her opinion, we don’t have to like it or agree with it.

su0000 –
For some reason it seems you are ignoring Genie’s time on the show from 1993 to 2002. That is nine years in and of itself. Just because she took time off to have kids doesn’t negate the rest of that time period. So yes, she is a vet, and anyone in the 18 – 49 demo would have had ample opportunity to fall in love with Laura then, or in the mid-late 2000’s if not earlier in the show when Genie was on.

Hey, Su.
I do not think you are picking on anyone. You are stating what you THINK to be true. I do not agree with much of what you say; just as I am sure, you do not agree with me. But, you are NEVER rude….always civil and it hurts me deeply how everyone is ridiculing you. Some of this stuff should not even appear in print….it is tantamount to bullying. But, my posts get eaten by the comment-monster…why? Whether you are right or wrong could be explained in so many different way, instead of attacking. I am very sorry you are being goaded this way. Simply not nice. Later, susu. Luv-ya.

Fantastic news. I’ve really enjoyed her appearances this time around and look forward to some storylines centering around Laura.

I wish Laura was in more scenes and was given permission to not be so saintly sometimes. I would love for the writers to have Laura lose her temper a little bit and really lay into Elizabeth and Nikolas. It would be satisfying (for me) to see Laura channel a little bit of Tracy Quartermaine angst when addressing Elizabeth and Nikolas. 🙂

nancy dillingham

OHHHH, let me tell you–“Laura” can lose her temper, she can lay into anyone, she has PLENTY angst! Get out of her way when she wants something or believes in something strongly enough. THAT”S the real character of Laura–not the watered-down version, not the stifled version, not the Geary-restrained version.

I’d love to see that, as well, Tracy. Perhaps under that angelic facade, she is a spitfire. Hopefully, the claws will come out in due time, when well-deserved. No one can be this placid and serene. She should take her son by the ear, and take Liz to task; and I don’t mean with a talk-to. Later.

Why not Robert Newman from Guiding Light ? After Josh and Reva why not James and Laura ?

That would make a gooooooooood pairing.

Great news! Now, give Laura a career and have her interact with both new and older characters.

Bring back Jax.

He’d be the most suitable beleivable love interest for Laura. There is nobody else in her age range among the current males except for Paul or Scott and the former won’t happen while the latter has been done enough. Too bad that Kevin Collins isn’t sticking around for the long haul.

Hello, Newmanwins.
I am pretty new and I hear so much about Jax. This would be a great time for him to make a re-entrance. I’d love to get to know him. And, with Laura you say? Hmmmm. I like Dr. Kevin, but he only comes and goes, right?

Hi Newmanwins…I agree…would LOVE Ingo/Jax to return…permanently. But I sooooo can’t see him with Laura! She’s earth mother, he’s GQ. Laura is warm embrace….Jax is champagne and roses…jet-setting, dashing, etc.

I see Laura with a doctor, lawyer…someone settled…not as modelesque as Jax. Though she has a wild, adventurous side…she always yearned for house and home whilst Luke was forever longing for the road….

Laura could be living out BOTH sides of her personality in a coherent way. If she was written as such it would go a LONG way toward getting the ratings back up.

Hi Elizabeth…yes. I agree…Laura can ‘ve both mother earth and spitfire. She always had a strong presence…and I TRUST her character. Lol…I feel comforted through the screen when she’s on and also trust her survival instincts. Still don’t see her with Jax, though. It’ll be interesting to see who they pair her with.

This is so terrific!!! Genie is such an amazing actor and deserves to have a role befitting her talents. I hope she gets a handsome man closer to her age to be her romantic interest. She has been so supportive of all those she performs with. Genie takes a back seat to no one in talent nor in the ability to draw in viewers. Laura can finally shed the burden of having to constantly work at keeping Luke honest and constantly reassuring him of her love and find love with someone with the admirable qualities she possesses.

Nooooo! Not Kevin. Someone like Robert Scorpio. If there is any such man on GH any more.

Anyone can say that Genie isn’t a veteran until they are blue in the face and it doesn’t make it true. Quite the contrary. Also, the character of Laura is tightly woven throughout the fabric of the ongoing saga of General Hospital and no one can take that away from her nor her fans. She has such a remarkable quality about her and her acting that is quite unique. Unforgettably so.

GH’s Laura Wright and Wes Ramsey Talk Their Love Connection & The Demands Of Daytime

After presenting for the first time together, at the 45th Annual Daytime Emmys since they’ve been a couple, Laura Wright (Carly) and Wes Ramsey (Peter aka Henrik) of General Hospital have certainly been in the throes of a romantic, fun, and cherished relationship. The two former stars of Guiding Light reconnected last year at Emmy time. Now, sharing their over one year anniversary, Michael Fairman TV caught up with Laura and Wes to get some insight into what makes their relationship work amidst the hustle and bustle, and pace of both being on a network television daytime drama series, and with the pressures of Hollywood where often relationships between two actors seem to start hot and heavy but then fizzle out.

If you caught this week’s GH, you witnessed that the town of Port Charles has found out that Peter is the notorious Cesar Faison’s son, and the ramifications that will be felt for weeks and months and potentially years to come. Meanwhile, Carly is in all sorts of trouble, thanks to naughty Nelle (Chloe Lanier). Nelle is making Carly look awfully unstable and what happens next could change Carly’s life forever.

So, what do these two lovebirds have to say about their relationship and their passion for working on the soaps? Check out what they had to share below.

Wes, you had met Laura originally years ago on Guiding Light.

Wes: Yes, 15 years ago in New York.

And what did you think of her then?

Wes: Well, I was smitten, but I had to keep it to myself.

You had to keep it under wraps, huh?

Wes: Yep!

Laura: I was married then.

Wes: She was pregnant with her second child.

Laura: And he’s a good Kentucky boy.

Wes: Uh-huh! But we would run lines in the green room and I would try very hard to make sure she didn’t catch me staring at her… too often. But we laughed, and had great conversation.

Laura: I would always say, “Wes, will you run lines with me?,” because I would want to run my lines.

Wes: We never had story together, but she always knew I was game to hang out with her for a moment.

It’s good when you’re in a relationship with someone and you can laugh with them. You seem to be able to do that a lot!

Laura: Oh, gosh. I think that’s all we do.

Wes: Yes, yes, yes, yes…

Laura: Like, we belly laugh. It gets to the point where people would think we were ridiculous. We’ll say things and just think it’s the funniest thing ever and people would be like, “You guys have a problem …” and we’re like, “Yeah.” (Laughs)

Laura, and then he comes back into your life years later…

Wes: That’s right, it was Emmy weekend 2017.

Laura: I totally was not expecting it at all. Even when I gave him my number I walked away going “huh…”

You mean you thought he wouldn’t call?

Laura: No, I didn’t feel that… because he hit on me hard. He’ll tell you that.

Wes: I still am hitting on her.

Laura: I remember I walked away quick after he got my number. I was like, “Oh, my God … I gotta go.”

Wes: There was an assertiveness on my part that was for sure 15 years in the making. I did not expect to run into her. I also did not expect for her to tell me that she was recently single. In that split second, it was one of those, “stop the presses!” moments. Like, you need to give me your number, I’m taking you to dinner.

Laura: I go, “Oh, be quiet! Are you like, 32, because I can’t do that.” (Laughs)

Wes: And I said, “Far from it.”

Laura: He’s like, “I’m getting ready to be 40.” And I’m like, “I can do that!”

Then, on top of all of this, Wes, you land a primo role on General Hospital. That of Henrik aka Peter, Cesar Faison’s son.

Wes: Yes, a dream come true.

Laura: I’m going to jump in and say it’s a role that he worked all on his own for. He had to screen test against 8 plus guys, 3 different auditions, 2 different days.

Wes: That’s true.

Laura: I can’t say strong enough that the best actor got the role. Meaning, Wesley is so talented and has the ability to give this character the depth, and emotion, and layers that it needs to tell the story that needs to be told. I just think he’s incredible.

So, did you know from the get-go who you were going to be playing?

Wes: I did not.

Laura: I did! (Laughs)

Wes: I’m thrilled that the writers have been giving me such incredible material to dive into.   Each month that goes by, it becomes more and more complex, and more and more layered and intense. I love the depth… I love the conflicts… I love the humanity… I love the desperation… I love the psychology behind it. It’s a very interesting story and a great journey to tell.

Laura: I was getting ready to say, where you mentally have to go to be the son of Faison and Anna Devane (Finola Hughes)! To blend that together is amazing. It’s incredible to watch.

You used to run lines together on Guiding Light. Do you run lines together now on GH? It’s like a full circle moment.

Laura: We do, and we carpool.

Wes: Something we were trying to manifest together. We thought it would be a lot of fun to work together one day.

Laura: The last week we worked, we didn’t. He worked all afternoon. I worked all morning. I was like, “Are they doing this on purpose?” I was so mad! I was like, “Why are you in the afternoon everyday?” (Laughs)

Wes: She lost her chauffeur. (Laughs)

Laura: I did! He always drives us to work. I also love when we both have afternoon calls, because we love having mornings together. So, I didn’t get my morning, nor did I have my chauffeur!

So, two actors can have a good relationship? You see so many Hollywood relationships with actors and they go bust. But that’s not always the case …

Wes: Oh, my God, yes.

Laura: I’m going to say this; I think I can see it being more difficult for daytime

actors, because the work we do is so intense. I know the weeks he’s getting ready to go into, and I’m getting ready to go into. Where we go emotionally and psychologically to tell these stories, on the level that we tell them, as quick as we tell them, you kind of have to become really in a headspace. The fact that we can …

Wes: … the long hours …

Laura: Yes, and exhaustion! You really have to go, “Wow! It’s not about me right now. It’s about us individually as actors.” Thank God, we know the workload. I know what he’s getting ready to go through.

Wes: I have always had so much respect for Laura’s work. On Guiding Light, I’ve always been in awe of what she’s capable of doing. So, the level of respect is obviously there. But also, the understanding whatever it is that you need from a personal assistant in one moment… or a life partner in another moment … or a best friend in moment … or whatever it is in order to get through the day-to-day and the week-to-week, so we can do what we love to do. We know we’re very lucky to have the opportunity to do what we love.

Laura was such a great co-host on my Soap Nation Live! Daytime Emmy Nomination Specials, in particular when she talks about acting. It’s so rewarding to hear the other actors who are guests on the show listening to what Laura has to say about her craft and respecting the hell out of her.

Wes: Without a doubt. You can’t watch her work and not be in awe. It speaks for itself.

Laura: I just love the journey of going to the places that we go; to bleed for it.

Wes: Leave it all out on the floor.

Laura: I know that process. So, when I see another actor that’s bleeding, I just bow to them, because I know what it takes to go there. I know the work that Wesley does. When I see that he’s spent at the end of the day, I’m like, “Babe, I so get it.” So, I can see where it could be really difficult for people that haven’t been there, because it’s a lot of work and you’re spent. It’s hard! For us, that works.

GH Nurses’ Ball 2018 Conclusion: Anna Learns Henrik Is Her Son, Maxie Has Her Son, Ava Wows, Mike & Sonny Duet!

In the most moving and exciting episode of this 2018 GH Nurses’ Ball, all roads lead to the truth about Henrik and how he is really living his life as none other than Peter August (Wes Ramsey).  First, Robert (Tristan Rogers) who has punched out by Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) on stage drags him outside of the ballroom for his part in the cover[up.  Robert is worried about Anna’s (Finola Hughes) safety. Nina (Michelle Stafford) confronts her husband about how long he’s known who Henrik is.  She later figures out why he has been trying to whisk her and Charlotte out of the country.

Onstage Mike (Max Gail) takes a mic, and makes a moment of saying he has Alzheimer’s and then launches into the song he remembers,“The Summer Wind.” As he sings, he imagines being accompanied by a big band as he proceeds to deliver a showstopper.  Suddenly, in reality, Mike is lost and disoriented … scared he stares around at the audience.  Sonny (Maurice Benard) gets up to the stage to help his dad by cluing him into the lyrics.  Sonny sings with Mike and gets him through the song.  They receive a standing ovation.

Ava (Maura West) who is preparing to perform her number comes across a moment between Kiki (Hayley Erin) and Griffin (Matt Cohen) backstage where they are in a hug.  Little does Ms. Jerome know that Griffin was consoling Kiki after her lewd run-in with Dr. Bensch (James DePaiva).   Then it is Maura West, who truly brings down the house for this year’s ball with her Ava’s rendition of “You Don’t Own Me.”  That tune was certainly a nod to all those that Ava feels have wronged her.  Yup! Sonny, Griffin and Kiki we think are some on her list!   Dressed in a white pant suit and accompanied by a bevy of male dancers, West knocked the interpretation of the song out of the park, to make it work for her character and the Nurses’ Ball.

Elsewhere, Maxie (Kristen Storms) has gone into labor, and Peter is right there safely delivering her baby boy. Maxie is taken by paramedics to the hospital, while Peter calls Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) at Maxie’s urging to let him know what happened.  Spinelli has just found out, through Sam (Kelly Monaco) and Jason (Steve Burton) that Peter is Henrick!

Anna is walking into a trap on the pier as she waits for Henrick. When he appears, he has no idea that Anna is his mother, and thinks it’s all been a set-up.  He points a gun to eliminate her once and for all, but Anna says she has something to tell him.

The Nurses’ Ball concludes with a touching finale of “Champion” featuring: Epiphany (Sonya Eddy), Felix (Marc Anthony Samuel), Bobbie (Jackie Zeman), Amy (Risa Dorken) and the other nurses.

So, what did you think of the final episode of the GH Nurses’ Ball 2018?  What did you think of the musical performances? Do you think Maxie’s baby will be OK? Will Anna be able to tell Henrik that she is his mom? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.
