GH's Head Writer Ron Carlivati On The Difficult Decision Of How To Craft Robin's Exit!

As everyone is watching Kimberly McCullough’s (Robin) six month return to General Hospital come to its inclusion on-air, so much has been said and commented about as to the decision of just how to write out Robin, but to somehow still leave the door open for another return, especially after telling her heroic journey back to the arms of her husband, Patrick (Jason Thompson) and her daughter, Emma (Brooklyn Rae Silzer)!

In a new piece out on in the current issue of Soap Opera Digest on newsstands now (make sure to pick it up!), GH head writer, Ron Carlivati explains the difficult process he went through in figuring out just how to write the beloved character out, in light of the fact she just reunited with her family.  The head scribe also relates how they came to the decision to have Robin leave Port Charles to go save Jason.  Here is an excerpt!

Carlivati offered up on Robin’s exit story:  “We talked through every possible story of why she would leave the canvas, why Patrick will stay, versions where Patrick would not stay.  There was an issue with every one.  All of them had their negatives.  Every one was, ‘Why would she leave her daughter? Why would she leave her husband?  If she doesn’t go willingly, why would he give up looking for her?  Or what if she died?’  Ultimately, I had to make the final decision along with Frank Valentini (executive producer, GH) and the network and ultimately, this was the one that all three parties – the network, Frank and I – agreed would be, if not the best, then maybe the most palatable.”

So trying to put yourself in the head writers shoes, do you understand the difficulties in trying to make Robin’s exit story make sense and work under constraints of Kimberly’s limited time with the series, and wanting to still keep the character alive?  Do you think having Robin going off to save Jason makes the most sense, given those two characters history with each other?  Comment below!

I think he did the best thing with what he had to work with. The bigger question is why bring her back at all, knowing she was only going to stay a few short weeks? If she were coming back for 6 months or more, I could better understand.

She hasn’t been back for a few weeks, she has been back for five months and she said it was supposed to be six months. Why bring her back? Ratings. It’s that simple. To get ratings, you need characters that General Hospital fans want to see. What GH fans want are the vets. Cartini increased ratings initially because fans who left heard that their favorites were coming back. Laura, Felicia, Lucy, Anna, Duke, Robert, Scotty etc. The problem is what Cartini did with them. The stories were not centered around them and their screen time was sacrificed for Howarth, Easton, Alderson, Castillo, West and Devry. Their characters are not enough to drive viewership.

It seems like they brought Robin back almost grudgingly. Knowing that their creations are not enough, they needed her, but then gave us a disappointing story. Her returm was told from Sabrinas POV and her exit is less than flattering to the character. Mr. Carlivati can justify the exit story all he wants and can bring the “network” into it, but I don’t buy it. The task was to create a story to take KMC off canvas for a while. There were endless possibilities. Would the “network” have objected to the following story?

Robin’s research and cure for polonium poisoning could yield other treatments that the government needs and she is pressed into service. She is sent to a top secret research facility to continue her work or sent to Afghanistan to treat soldiers. It’s not about Jason. She is not just abandoning her family and she is making a sacrifice for a greater good. But of course, that scenario wouldn’t make her character look bad and question her commitment to her husband and child. There is an obvious agenda at work here and it is mindboggling how TPTB think that the show benefits from it.

And even sticking with the Victor, Frozen family/Jason scenario, why make her a willing participant? Carlivati says “If she doesn’t go willingly, why would he give up looking for her?” How about because he knows where she is? Victor threatens her loved ones and they both make the decision that she needs to go. Is that so hard to come up with? Again, agendas. And now we are on the excuses tour.

I am with you fans……I hope Robin brings back Michael Muhney to play the new Jason. He looks and acts more like Steve Burton than any other actor I can think of, except perhaps Billy Miller. But for Robin to leave GH again to help save some of the Cassadines, I would also like to see Helena revived. She had a love/hate relationship with Luke which helped to make GH more exciting and interesting. We need more of the really good acting VETS returned to PC to keep GH high in the ratings!!!! So Bring on the Good Old Gang…or at least some of the good old gang…and I will have my faith restored in GH!! !! . Thanks GH Writers!!!

        March 1, 2014 at 10:39 pm

Your scenario is 1000 times better than what they wrote. and why would she ever believe victor? They can make anyone in a video look like Jason with tricks . And Robin was hardly on the screen during 5 months. How many family scenes were there? How many talks with Emma? How many true moments with her friends? She barely had any screen time. I thought the story line stank. And why bring her back for the short about of screen time and reason for leaving, as you said, which harms the character. What will they do with Patrick til she is ready to return? The character is in a no win limbo. As Julia Roberts said in Pretty Woman, “Dumb, dumb.”

      • GH50

        March 2, 2014 at 12:49 am

Why would Robin just believe Victor? Now you’re straying off topic and trying to apply logic to the stories. The simple answer is that for Cartini, advancing plot points is primary and logic is secondary.

Why would Robin believe Victor? Why would she believe that he is the head of the WSB? Something so secret her parents don’t know about it? Here’s some more. Why can’t Lulu and Dante connect the dots from the missing/destroyed embryos to baby Ben? He has Dante’s DNA. Britt is a known liar when it comes to matters of paternity? It wouldn’t dawn on a functioning human that maybe she just didn’t use the sperm but took the embryos? It wouldn’t hit you immediately? But of course to get to this ridiculous point, they had to take the word of Brad, also a known liar, that the embryos were destroyed by Ellie and they never even called her to confirm. Speaking of paternity, Scotty just takes crazy Lucy’s word for it that Franco is his son? He doesn’t ask for a DNA test? Really? How about the pharmacist ID’s Silas and both he and Sam forget that Silas had a brother who looked just like him, who happened to be a serial killer. You know, the reason that when Sam first saw Silas she flipped out.

You see, now we’ve graduated from the topic of why Robin’s exit is so poorly written to the much larger problem of how poorly the entire show is written.

I agree on all points…looking back, I guess it HAS been 5 months…it just SEEMED like a few weeks 🙂 I’ll keep watching what ever they do. I’ve been watching since the 60’s when it started (with my grandma) and we’ve gone through many periods where the writing was less than stellar. I’m just glad it’s still on 🙂

Sorry meant Scotty taking Crazy Heather’s word for it. But of course he might as well just take Lucy’s word for it too, or just any random person on the street for that matter.

I would hope that Frank & Ron care more about the female characters and actresses than to hire someone that was fired for inappropriate & unwanted behavior. I don’t care how good an actor MM is, he has done this more than once and deserved what he got

He has so many women friends that say that never would have happened. Where is the proof, where is the evidence? Where is the police report? Then I will believe. Ego, yes (get him some counseling!!!) then put him back on the screen.. Groping… I do not believe!!!

Ron and Frank are very talented and I l’ve really at appreciated so much of their work on GH. But this choice just doesn’t feel right. They should have looped in some threads about Jason from the beginning and also shown that Robin had become obsessed with her scientific work, maybe even showing some possible psychological damage from her two years of captivity and history with her parent’s crazy lives. The exit story just hasn’t worked on so many levels. Robin has a lot of situational, emotional and psychological reasons why she would make some weird decisions but they didn’t pave the way for any of this. It’s been very jarring on top of the fact that they’ve jumped the shark recently with Victor as head of WSB, Obrecht as Chief of Staff and Freddy Kruger/Heather stalking Port Charles. It seems that Ron and Frank have lost some of their mojo in 2014 because Jan and Feb have not been stellar months overall; although there have been fantastic moments, both acting and storywise. The show is overshadowed by the high camp and silly dialogue. I’ve found myself tuning into Days more with my limited time because it’s more evenly paced and while parts are absurd; it still tugs at the heartstrings. GH has been too cute by half.

PALATABLE???? Are you effin kidding me??? They decided the MOST PALATABLE would be for her to ABANDON HER DAUGHTER to save Jason. That is the BIGGEST load of crap I have ever heard. We just saw a woman who fought TWO YEARS to get back to her family and now I am supposed to believe a character I have watched for 30 years would abandon her daughter.

This is the biggest trash story I have ever seen. This is nothing but trying to destroy Robin in order to make Sabrina a viable character. I am not stupid. Stop treating me like I am.

This is why I quit watching. I hope others do the same.

Viewers get no respect. I notice we (viewers) were left out of the oh so difficult decisions on storyline. No respect for the viewers means no entertainment value to me. Yep, when Kimberly McCullough (Robin/Scrubs) leave so will I. I will watch GH again when she comes back. Hopefully the writers/producers/network will do right by viewers. Respect.

That’s bull. Robin invented the cure for Polonium poisoning. Job offers from all over the world would believably be coming in. She could easily have gotten one and moved or gone on tour lecturing/constantly been at medical conferences (like Monica was for much of Guza) and been an off canvas presence like Audrey is for Liz or Leslie is.

RC is full of crap. He wanted a story which would make Sabrina look good. He got it. He should just be upfront about it.

They shouldn’t have brought her back if Kimberly wasn’t willing to make a long-term commitment to the show. It was easier to stomach Patrick with Sabrina when he thought Robin was dead, but now there just is no good reason for her to leave her family.

I think it was the best way under the circumstances. You can’t keep having her kidnapped… we don’t want her to die… saving Jason is the next best thing! Since she is next door at Greys… she should be able to shoot phone calls or Skype sessions… you would think? RC did a great job!!! Tough circumstances!!! How he handles Patrick and Emma… now is very important!!! Hope it’s good RC!!!

Better solution, but she should of stayed a little much as i like Kimberly and the character. Robin needs to be recast just as Lulu was, if she is going to be moving on with directing..its not fair to the fans this back and forth stuff and it was disappointing that she didn’t stick around a little longer with her family.

Kimberly McCullough IS Robin Soltini Scorpio Scorpio-Drake. It’s on the supposed writers to be talented enough to craft great storylines! It is not KMc’s fault. There are too many dramatic, reasonable ways to explain Robin being off-screen for periods at a time. Blame and hold the GH writers, producers and the network responsible.

  9. Chantal

    March 1, 2014 at 10:59 am

Only reason I would have bought is joining Robert on some mission where they would require a doctor. How about Frisco found out the WSB had been infiltrated and Victor Cassidine was in charge? I feel Robin couldn’t have said no to her father and we would have known she’d be protected by both Robert and/or Frisco.

    • Mia Denise

      March 1, 2014 at 1:40 pm

Then Patrick could have told Robin that it is history repeating itself because Anna chose the WSB over Robin many time. Nope it would have worked.

Again….good idea Chantal. See. I have read over TEN plausible exit stories that would have worked better than the crap they wre writing…but they claim they exhausted every possible storyline and theirs was the best and only one that could work. Daytime needs a fresh eye and new writers!

I wish the guy would concentrate on writing for the actors that want to be on GH. This is becoming tiresome. Too much effort on the comings and goings of this actress. Put a fork in it.

    • Ashleigh

      March 1, 2014 at 6:41 pm

Amen to that. She doesn’t want to be here, so write for the actresses that do instead of having an actress paint the writers in a corner by not wanting to stick around. It’s too hard on the fans.

      • peace2speak

        March 2, 2014 at 1:17 pm

Please. This is not Kimberly McCullough’s fault! Blame the GH writers, Producers and network for not doing their jobs. Hold them accountable for not being talented enough to craft entertaining storylines that reasonably explain Robin’s times off-screen.

        March 2, 2014 at 9:00 pm

    • GH50

      March 1, 2014 at 10:05 pm

Such ridiculous comments. Actors come and go. She’s not twisting their arm. She didn’t have Obrecht threaten them to hire her. They want her. They need her for ratings. A good writing team would be able to come up with a story that would explain her absence in a way that doesn’t make her look bad. They are doing this purposefully and that’s all.

The majority of fans do not like the way Robin’s character is being portrayed in this exit and the evidence is the fact that interviews like this are taking place. Calling the actor’s commitment into question is ludicrous. It is the job of the writer to figure out the story in a way that serves the character, the show and the fans. In this instance, it would have been very easy to do that. Characters come and go all the time, they live off screen, especially on GH when you don’t see characters for weeks. All this, poor writers, what else could they possibly do stuff is just such nonsense.

Even this ridiculous Jason/Cassidine frozen story did not have to be done in a way that had the actress look bad. She could have been threatened, Patrick could have been aware of the threat, it could have been a decision that the two of them reached together and that’s it. Fans may not have thought it was a great story, but they wouldn’t be mad at Robin’s portrayal and role in it.

RC should just admit what he did. He sounds like Ralph Kramden trying to explain his way out of a mess to Alice.

RC always sounds like that! LOL. He blames his decisions on actors and other outside forces. He is defensive, and hostile, and is outrageously inappropriate on social media. His stance is that fans have NO right to talk back to him or disagree with his decisions. last year, during the 50th Anniversary, when everyone was loving him for bringing back all the beloved vets, and hailing him as a Soap Superhero, he took that all to heart and it went straight to his head. Now most of those vets are gone, trashed in a dung heap, and the ones who remain are on once every three weeks in token appearances, while disgusting villains and unnecessary, irrelevant newcomers rule the roost.

I actually think that KM did her fans a great disservice by coming back at all – since she knew she could only stay for a short period of time. She could have waited until this Grey’s internship was over, and came back for May sweeps. IMO, this was the only way they could write it that would make Patrick and Emma move on – and both of those characters need to move forward with their lives.

    • Ashleigh

      March 2, 2014 at 4:45 pm

You need to remember that she’s the one that decided to leave so why be mad at the writers? Boy, she has some loyal fans to choose her over the writers when she is the one leaving. I understand because I was a die-hard Simon fan on ATWT, so I understand supporting a beloved actress, but don’t get mad at the writers for wanting her to leave in a way that Patrick still has a life. Honestly, there’s nothing that should be important enough to tear a mother voluntarily from a child, so in my opinion, they need to kill her off, recast her, or she needs to commit to the show.

I agree why are people blaming the writers it’s not there fault KMC doesn’t want to commit to GH for the long term. Patrick was already stuck in a holding pattern until KMC decided to come back. JT is too valuable to the show that he should be sidelined because she has this amazing chance to follow her dream. So the SL needs to move forward besides it amps up the drama when and if she returns. KMC has even stated her self she wanted to come back when it makes the most impact to the SL. I feel for scrubs fans but her passion is directing not acting. So if she isn’t willing to commit to long term SL then you need to shake up scrubs it’s only fair to JT and Patrick…..JT shouldn’t be sidelined or we may lose him too.

This time around I didn’t feel that her heart was really in it….her acting seemed a bit off….maybe she too hated the storyline… if they wanted to Close that story, they should have recast her. Because this character is so essential… the character has to trump the actress playing her…

Ron had a difficult job and I don’t blame him for Kimberly’s decision to leave – it was all on her. The story is far-fetched because Robin wouldn’t leave her family so soon after reuniting with them, but this isn’t a lifetime commitment she’s making – eventually she’ll be back home with her family, and hopefully bringing Jason home, too.

I meant for the character of Robin, her decision to leave Emma and Patrick is not a lifetime one, she’ll be back in Port Charles eventually, whether Kimberly wants to return or not. If the show has to recast, they have to recast. There are a few possibilities that would work well, like Melissa Archer or maybe Rebecca Budig

I know its hard to keep a character alive but leaving. It just gets annoying when they no longer want to do it and may come back someday if her producing doesn’t work out. I’m grateful they try everything to help these actors when they want to do other things just hard to keep disrupting a storyline. I know if they would kill her off a lot would be mad. Its one of them damn if you do and damn if you don’t with a character.

I think this is the best solution. Robin would go to save Jason in a heartbeat. That is the relationship they had. Also, she doesn’t think she is leaving her daughter forever. I think Ron did a very good job. I would have preferred she stayed kidnapped, though. There was so much hype on her return for her to only stay six months. I feel like the viewers have been held hostage along with Robin. Now, this goodbye is taking forever. I have been a fan since Kimberly joined the show when she was a little girl, but I am ready to move on. My main complaint now is that it looks like Patrick will be left waiting for her for who knows how long! I hate that. I wanted him to be able to move on knowing that Robin is alive and well. He better have a big role in raising his baby with Sabrina. I hope Sabrina and Robin can still have a relationship. They were very good together and Sabrina helped Emma so much while her mom was gone. Patrick hates Jason and I wanted him to break of with Robin because of it.

    • Jackie

      March 2, 2014 at 8:24 am

No I don’t want them to break Robin and Patrick apart for Sabrina. I like Sabrina and Carlos together. They have more Chemistry together than with Patrick. Just because she having a baby is not a reason to put them together again. I still think the baby is Carlos. I would like to see Robin come back with Jason and be pregent with Patrick baby. From the wonderful night they spent together before she left. Please have Patrick waiting for Robin is true love.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE WHO WATCH THIS SHOW??????????? WHY DO YOU LIKE GREASY MURDERERS??????????????????? Cafrlos and Ava just sat and had a laughing, giggling, cavalier conversaation about how Ava shot a defenseless woman at point blank range. Carlos smiled, smirked, and was SO proud of Ava. then, Ava commands him to go over and murder AJ, which he willingy does. THIS is the character that you people want to stick around, and be with Sabrina, and potentially raise her child? I don’t get it. I don’t get the love of disgusting murderer characters (Sonny, Sean, Jason, Julian, Carlos, Ric, et al) and I don’t k now why soaps moral centres have been so skewed and decimated so that the bad guys ALWAYS win. funny how soaps still blame the murder trial of OJ as what pfrecipitated their declining ratings back in 1995. Hmmm…guilty man gets off scott-free. That had the nation enthralled. but soaps viewership has declined MAJORLY since they started writing soaps where evil always triumphs. Viewers still want to see the good guys win, and sadly, that rarely happens anymore. the list of soap opera characters who are still getting away with crimes is long and tedious. soaps are littered with characters who should be dead or in jail by now…Victor Newman, Stefano DiMera, Sonny Corinthos, etc etc etc etc.

@Johnny totally agree wait until you read what happens this week on GH. Everyone is so thrilled about the character of Ava why can’t I have my Laura back. I do not think a murderer is attractive she is not a vixen and Sonny should have been run out on a rail a long time ago. I hope Patrick has something to say about who raises his child and man up!

I do agree with your take on Sonny, Jason, Sean, Julian, Ric, etc. Their mob activity is not cool…they are sick misters, and, as such, hold no entertainment value for me. I can laugh at some of the more over-the-top, camp villains like Heather, Dr. O. and Faison, because they are so fantastical, but that is another matter altogether.

      March 2, 2014 at 6:48 pm

It is not the relationship they had. Jason was fine with Robin dying during the monkey virus. He would not give up his life for Robin & she should not for him.

Has it been determine who is really the father. Is it really Patrick? I hope is it Carlos. So Patrick and Robin can have their baby Patrick asked for.

It has been a good storyline.. full of emotions and def worth that long wait to have her back.. that church scene with her watching the marriage and the very end of the episode with her daughter crying out “Mommy” was worth all of it..

Great job in writing… There is so much bad writing out there on some of these soaps, so it is good that GH keeps it moving fast and our interest… Been trying to get back into Days and it is soooo painnfullll since the writing it soooooooooo slooww..

      March 1, 2014 at 12:26 pm

I sincerely would have preferred Robin die as at least Patrick would still have loved her. Let’s tell it like it is- this exit decision was all about finding a way to make Patrick DESPISE Robin as a result of her selfishness so that the audience would see the sainted Sabrina as a viable alternative for Patrick. Do you really think it’s an accident that Teresa Castillo hasn’t been on screen for ages and the baby story has been of no consequence for Scrubs? The decision was clearly made to keep Sabrina “squeaky clean” in contrast to Robin’s cavalier abandonment of her family so that Patrick will go running to her when Robin leaves. Completely transparent and I would appreciate it if Ron would, at the very least, admit that this was the reason for destroying Robin for the audience. Anything else is an insult to my intelligence.

They should have just let her stay dead. Having said that, if it will bring Michael Muhney to the canvas as Jason, I’m all for it.

    • Johnny

      March 2, 2014 at 2:36 pm

Why? So we can have another stone-faced, emotionless Jason on the show? One was enough.

      • Susan

        March 3, 2014 at 8:41 am

I think Jason would be anything but stone faced if played by Michael Muhney. There is miles of difference between their acting styles. Michael can say more with his facial expressions than most actors manage with 10 pages of dialogue. On YR Steve Burton is still stone faced.

      • Jimmy

        March 3, 2014 at 4:17 pm

Obviously you haven’t seen Michael Muhney act. He was phenomenal on Y&R as Adam, he played him so well that even when he did horrible things, I loved the character. Easily one of the biggest losses for the show, along with Jeanne Cooper’s passing, this is probably number two, with Billy Miller’s exit a VERY close number 3.

If GH brought him on board as Jason, they will strike gold.

      • Johnny

        March 3, 2014 at 8:14 pm

As a lifelong and near daily viewer I have quite obviously seen him act. He used the same expression and vocal inflecion whether he was saying “Hello how are you” or “I love you with all my heart.” Or “I could kill you with my bare hands.” Very little range. Not saying he was a bad actor by any means, but just because I dont agree with your opinion that he was super awesome amazing, that doesn’t make my opinion any less valid. I loathed the character because he was a kidnapper, a murderer, and other horrible things. Not everyone was over the moon for Muhney, and not everyone loved Adam.

    March 1, 2014 at 11:54 am

The most believable exit would have involved Robin and Patrick making the mutual decision to leave Port Charles…. too much baggage there. Leaving town with Scorpio would have brought a perfect denouement to the kidnapping story.

    March 1, 2014 at 12:10 pm

Nothing we can do about it so let the gal go do her thang but i still think…like i previously commented…Robin shouldve left for another country to find a cure for a mysterious illness that has sickened thousands including her father(i feel this wouldve been more acceptable)….km wants a career directing so let her go and move on. Robin should have stayed dead in the first place and brought back only if returning full time.(or replaced by another actress) Sabrina shouldve started without being a geeky immature nurse…she shouldve looked how she does now with Patrick gradually becoming smitten by her…Sabrina shouldve been just getting over her broken relationship with Carlos and unaware Patrick is attracted to her…then when she does find out and he invites her out on a first date she is reluctant at first because Carlos had broken her heart and she doesnt want to relive that pain. Better yet Sabrina and Patrick shouldve had that Jessie Brewer and Steve Hardy friendship with only a hint of an attraction and Patrick shouldve been in a love triangle with Liz and Britt! Too late now! Now, id like to see Patrick there for Sabrina and the baby but not able to commit to Sabrina romantically because he remains hopeful Robin will return. However, when Nik marries Britt, Patrick comforts Liz and they fall in love. Then either kill off Robin for real or replace her! End of story!

      March 1, 2014 at 3:09 pm

Also, i found Robins return kinda draggy and the same with her departure: i wouldve loved a whole hour with Robin saying her ‘goodby’ to everyone instead of it dragged out for several episodes when those episodes could have her spent more time with her family…i just find this story completely boring with too few good moments!!! mho!!!

      • 4everDAYS

        March 1, 2014 at 9:34 pm

I’m not a fan of GH, but surely Robin’s departure is better than Don Craig (DAYS) going to get his mail and never returning! LOL! In fear of going off topic, I’ll say no more. lol

I’m sure there will be a time to delve into the sudden, mysterious endings of certain characters I’m thinking about!

That would be a great topic!!!

    • Shay

      March 3, 2014 at 4:02 am

Or following Robin’s “death,” Patrick could have been paired with the perfectly logical and acceptable Liz, then we could have been totally spared the unnecessary and supreme silliness that was the St. Soppy storyline….that would have been absolute bliss!!!!!

    March 1, 2014 at 12:22 pm

I think the writers did the best they could, but I’m hoping that she doesn’t come back again if it is only for a very short stay. For me, that in and out business doesn’t work well.

    • Jimmy

      March 3, 2014 at 4:18 pm

Agreed. If need be, I wouldn’t mind a recast, but with some time. Jason has been off screen for about a year and a half now so I’d be willing to accept a recast for him. Maybe later on in the year or next year the same can happen to Robin. There are more than capable actresses out there to take on the role.

  23. Nikki

    March 1, 2014 at 12:28 pm

I ADORE this storyline and I’m glad that people are finally realizing that it was the only, reasonable solution and, not only that, but it also is the beginning stages for a big payoff- Jason coming home, albeit a recast.

People who have said this is “out of character” for Robin, it really isn’t. It’s not about testing her love for her family, it’s about her saving someone she loves and putting someone else above of her own happiness. And not even that, but it’s for Jason, someone that has been an incredible staple throughout her life. He was the boy with no past and she was the girl with no future. He taught her how to live and love again, which ultimately lead her to Patrick. Now Jason has a son and a wife, who were in the position Patrick and Emma were and Robin wants to make sure that she AND her friend both have happy endings with their spouses and children. Also, which I feel is a beat the writers missed, I would think Robin would feel unnecessary guilt over Jason’s “death”, considering her own “death” was what allowed Faison, masked as Duke, to infiltrate Anna’s life and Port Charles, then killing Jason.

I’m happy that they brought Kimberly back when they did because allowing her to be presumed dead too long would have been dull and the payoff wouldn’t have been as sweet as it was. It’s a shame that she chose to leave once again, but she’s a young woman full of promise and goals that she want’s to fulfill and I don’t blame her. I’m glad they didn’t do another kidnapping or recast and I’m certainly glad they didn’t kill her off for good. I’m glad that they didn’t sacrifice Jason Thompson so that Patrick and Robin would leave together, giving us GH fans more of Jason’s continually growing talents and also promising another sweet “Scrubs” reunion in the future- chockfull of more drama and romance, just what soaps are made out of!

    • Jackie

      March 2, 2014 at 8:40 am

you said it all. Amen. They need to bring Robin back again for a sweet reunion with her family.

    • Johnny

      March 2, 2014 at 2:32 pm

I could be completely on board with you IF…and only IF…the show had never turned Jason Quartermaine, good-guy, medical student, hero…into a blood-thirsty, cold-blooded, thug, murderer for hire. What is the urgency to bring him back to Danny? Jason had a baby….Jake. Remember him? Jason CHOSE the life of being a murderer for hire OVEr being a father to Jake. He could have quit being a killer for hire. He chose not to. He let another man claim his child as his own so he could continue being a KILLER for Sonny and the mob. Father of the year? I think not. robin should think he would be better off in a frozen slumber than coming back and putting little Danny at risk. Sorry…NO regime on this show gets a free pass from me on the destruction they have wrought on this character. the car-accident/amnesia/working for Sonny was a good plot twist idea for MAYBE a year…at which point Jason should have regained his memories and been UTTERLY and COMPLETELY horrified at what he had done. But no…through several regimes and 16 years, this kept up. Jason the Hitman with the heart of gold who is loved and adored by everyone in town…it’s CRAP. He belongs with fellow murderers Helena and Stavros in suspended animation. unless the show would revive him as Jason Quartermaine, there is NO point to this character’s return…and sacrificing Robin’s character in the process.

      • Susan

        March 3, 2014 at 8:46 am

I’m hoping he comes back as Jason the wanna be doctor. No longer remembering he was a hitman. I’m also hopeful it will be Michael Muhney playing him. If anyone can pull it off he can. Regardless of rumors, and they are only rumors, Michael is a terrific actor.

    March 1, 2014 at 12:30 pm

I like the exit for the most part and I think there is alot of material for when Jason does return with Robin (or not). My big problem is that Robin cannot communicate with her family..why not? You don’t have to shoot a skpe scene (aka Noah and Sabrina) or even phone calls..what’s wrong with an occasional reference? That would make everyone feel like she is not abandoning her family (esp. Emma) which is in some ways out of character for Robin…am glad she is coming back tho I am sick of her being blamed by viewers for the pacing of every other storyline!! Even 6 months of KMc is a lift to if only TR will come back…..

  25. Connie

    March 1, 2014 at 12:31 pm

Geee. Hmmm let me think! Why bring her back at all. The portrayal of Robin in the last few months was a huge let down and it made her fans not like her so much. I love Robin and would have been happier if she didn’t come back until she was able to give 100%

    March 1, 2014 at 12:35 pm

Sorry Ron I can think of half dozen ways to have Robin leave other than this…but it is what it is. I knew she wasn’t staying and it is a short stint but unfreezing inanimate people? How difficult is that….come on now. She is a world famous researcher how about a breakthrough in aids research forces her back to Africa or how about her father in turmoil, his cancer returns or he’s in a compromising position due to the fact he was an international super spy…or?

Oh never mind. You get my drift….

I have a lot of problems with how this story was told mainly it being so Sabrina heavy when I knew Robin wasn’t going to be around long why waste time with that? All of Sabrinaville could have played out after Robin left. Oh I have a lot of issues re: “how this story was told” but it is what it is.

  27. Mika

    March 1, 2014 at 12:43 pm

There are few legitimate reasons a mother would leave her child. Going on a wild goose chase to save a frozen former flame isn’t one of them. I can’t believe this was the best option available to the writers. (Does anyone on the GH staff have kids?)

Running off to save her father might have worked. Not sure. But at least Robin wouldn’t haven’t looked like an such a self-centered idiot. If GH is planning on bringing her back, what’s the point of having viewers turn on the character.

  28. Rose

    March 1, 2014 at 12:47 pm

I wish Robin was sticking around longer, but that’s the actress’ decision, can’t blame the writers for having to make the best of the situation. I wouldn’t want them to kill her off so I think given the restraints this was a pretty good choice. If nothing else the symmetry alone with her leaving to save Jason was a great plan. I like that aspect of it. I just wish they had sped up her return so that we could have had her around with everyone else longer before her contract expired. But this has definitely given Jason Thompson some really amazing scenes. I smell an emmy for him.

The best part of the story was Emma running to Robin and Robin telling Patrick she was leaving again. The rest was just not interesting. If she can’t commit to the show, they either need to recast or let her go completely.

    • Jackie

      March 2, 2014 at 8:47 am

I don’t agree. She part of this show for years and can’t be recast the chemtisry wouldn’t be there like her and Patrick. They are best friends in life and it shows they good together.

  32. David J.

    March 1, 2014 at 12:56 pm

They could have easily allowed Robin to get hit by a car and slip into a coma; thereby leaving her character in tact and having a reasonable explanation for her absence. When Kimberly is ready to return (or if they decided to recast), they could have easily had Robin wake up from her coma and go on from there.

    • Susan

      March 3, 2014 at 8:48 am

I didn’t feel KM was really much into it this time. She seemed to just walk thru the scenes and her wardrobe looked like it came from the local thrift store.

  33. Goldi

    March 1, 2014 at 1:01 pm

I thought it was a horrible exit. Seems to me that the treatment for any Scorpio is lacking any sense of fairness. They could have put KMc on recurring and figured out temporary exits. She was agreeable to that. They do it for TG all the time. This seems like a Cartini shrug of smugness and insensitivity. I fear what they have in mind of Anna. If it’s what I hear, that may be the last straw.

  34. boes

    March 1, 2014 at 1:04 pm

But it’s been quite some time since GH hasn’t resembled a cartoon – and not a good cartoon at that. As others have said, enough with the stunt casting and shortterm returns if they ultimately do not add to the storylines. Robin’s exit has been the worst of those, but what is his excuse for the horror that is Franko and Keeki?

  35. k/kay

    March 1, 2014 at 1:18 pm

Absolutely horrible way for her to exit to think she would leave her daughter for a friend means she is a horrible mother. Somehow I do not remember Robin being a bad mother. This actress wants to move on why was she brought back? I personally would have much preferred that we get back Genie Francis/Laura a true icon of this soap she wants the job. As far as I am concerned pair Patrick back with Sabrina since she is having a little Drake and truly loves Emma. If I was Patrick I would have told Robin to not let the door hit her on the way out!

    • Jackie

      March 2, 2014 at 8:51 am

Patrick and Sabrina don’t work together good. No chemistry with them two. I think Sabrina has more chemistry with Carlos. I feel Patrick should wait and be happy with the woman he is in love with not one he loves. There is a big diffence.

I would finally make it clear that trying to bring back Robin and then letting her leave over and over isn’t in the best interest of the show and I would tell her that.

I also would not hire a man who molests women to replace Jason. And yes, in this case he is guilt until proven innocent.

    March 1, 2014 at 1:28 pm

Why put yourself in this situation as a writer? This story is one of many reasons that I stopped watching the show recently.

  38. Mia Denise

    March 1, 2014 at 1:33 pm

I understood it as soon as Robin said that she was going to save Jason. Most if not all of the fans forget that Robin put Jason ahead of Patrick & Emma when she ran back into the lab to get the protocol. Even as Patrick pleaded with her not to because the emergency door would lock behind her. TPTB i.e. ABC, Frank Valentini & Ron Carlivati chose the perfect exit for Robin that woukd make sense all the way around.

  39. Mya

    March 1, 2014 at 1:36 pm

I don’t loathe her exit story, but I can’t say I like it either. I understand that the producers and writers are always under pressure from the network, have budget constraints and must consider how it will effect other character’s story lines. However, I’m not sure what the point of her return was if she needed to leave only 6 months later.

For long-time fans, you might remember that Vanessa Marcil’s Brenda did that in 2002. Brenda returned from the dead with Alcazar, reunited with Jax and he ultimately left her at the alter for seeing her kiss Sonny the night before their wedding. It made Jax look like a jerk and then she was gone again for 8 years.

So in Robin’s case, I think we could have dragged out her kidnapping indefinitely until she was either ready to make a real commitment or the writer’s were ready to kill her off. Recasting is always a mistake in my opinion, with very few exceptions. None the less, I’ve never been a Robin fan and honestly won’t miss the character.

  40. Karen Wilson

    March 1, 2014 at 1:46 pm

I love Kimberly in the role of Robin. However, she has chosen another career path and I feel the storyline is suffering because Kim’s commitments. What happens when she decides to return? Will she only be on screen for six months and leave again? I think maybe it’s time to recast the role or kill the character off. I think the fans deserve continuity or closure. This will not be accomplished with Kimberly signing on to play the part every 2 years. Yes, Kimberly is excellent; however there are other talented actresses. I believe the exit storyline tainted the character in long time fans eyes. I wish Kimberly the best. But it is time for both her & the writers to move on.

    • Jackie

      March 2, 2014 at 8:53 am

Disagree. No one can replace her.

  41. Charday

    March 1, 2014 at 1:53 pm

My problem with the way Robin’s exit is being portrayed is that Robin should have been able to take Patrick and Emma with her as a condition of saving the Cassadine’s (and Jason). It makes Robin appear selfish to abandon her daughter.

  42. Chaz

    March 1, 2014 at 1:54 pm

I think even this exit would have been more acceptable if they had not wasted so much time with Robin still being captive once KM came back. Knowing they only had her for six months they should have reunited Robin, Patrick & Emma within the first two weeks giving them more time as a family. Had that happened I think her leaving would not have felt so contrived and out of character.

I understand having to quickly drum up an exit if an actor leaves abruptly as happened with Tristan Rogers…but in this case they knew her exact dates of availability and had ample time to write story around that availability. I have to wonder if Ron & or Frank thought they could wheedle more time out of KM.

its sad Robin has to leave again; but due to other commitments to other things shes doing; the writters have done the best they can with this situation; maybe Patrick will become involved again with Sabrina; so when Robin returns she will have to fight again for him there will b e a storyline waiting in the works wsho knows?????? get Jason back; wish it was Steve Burton!!!!!!!!

I realize how difficult it is to write a story line and believe you did the best you could. It would be nice to see Robin come back with the one and only Jason (Steve Burton). That would most definitely be worth her leaving Port Charles.

Keep up the good work and don’t worry about the fan’s writing their negative opinions. You are doing an awesome job. Been watching this show since I was a kid. Thanks for your wonderful imagination.

Terrible story line to bring a Robin back just to have her leave. What Mother after missing her daughter would leave again to save someone. Terrible. Should of never brought her back. They don’t care how viewers connect with the characters, it’s all about ratings.

Bringing Robin back was a mistake for all..
Her fans are once again grieving her exit.. (boohoo)
It put the writers through hell trying to make it right..
It gave RC/FV a headache to deal with.
And the story, a short stay story, is never that great..
And having Robin return accomplished nothing of greatness..
I hope they never make this mistake again ..

Ribon/KMc is not that big of a deal to create this mess, not worth it.. She walked out of GH and her fans, no need to praise her she is not staying on, she has moved on from GH ..

The ratings jumped, of course some would tune in to watch her leave, again..

good thing this is no a real story. Some people take this soap opera to extreme.

No – it only shows how bankrupt this creative-writing team is. I can think of 3 storyline possibilities right off the top of my head and yet he claims they talked through “every possible story.” If your team is creatively bankrupt, then take suggestions from amateurs or bring in new blood.

Perhaps if Robin’s return had not been wasted so long with her being held prisoner for months and months, maybe I would not feel like those opportunities to enjoy her scenes with her family and friends had not been stolen from me We did not get too see very many scenes with her family after she finally got to come home.

Robin/KMc was double timing with directing and GH..
that is why she was not active and in the hospital for that length of time.. and those few hospital scenes were most likely filmed in a couple of days time….
Not FV or RC’s fault 🙂

You have no idea what you are talking about. She was not directing while she was on GH. I love when people make crap up.And your comment above about putting writers through hell and giving RC a headache has me rolling on the floor.

Characters come and go all the time and given how terrible this team is at continuity and pacing, not seeing Robin for periods of time would be par for the course just like it is for so many characters except for their silly pets Howarth, Easton etc. You know, the one’s who can’t sustain a show, the one’s who necessitate having to bring KMC back so everyone doesn;t tune out.

        March 2, 2014 at 2:17 pm

Su… have poste this more than once. Kimberly signed a 6 month contra ct, and she fulfilled that 6 months with…6 months. There was no accelerated taping to accommodate her. I don’t know how or why you keep saying that her scenes were filmed way in advance, and over the course of a few days. She had interactions with most of the cast, from the villains, to her parents, to her friends, with her child and husband…the show is not written 6 months in advance where doing all that would even be possible. I really wish you would stop claiming this for no particular reason.

When the Network, Head writer & Producer all agree that Robin (a character we watched grow up) leaving her daughter & making fans turn on her to save a few frozen dead people is the best possible exit storyline I know it’s time to tune out. If this team doesn’t respect the history/storylines/characters of GH past then for me there is no GH future.

I will never understand FV/RC’s obsession with their boring pets (cartoonish characters) or why they seem to have blamed Robin for the failed first attempt of Patrina/Sabrina (not her fault they couldn’t act the part/story). It has completely turned me off from supporting this show any longer.

    • GH50

      March 1, 2014 at 9:39 pm

Very well stated. The answer is that they didn”t want to write and produce GH. They wanted to come in and make their own show with their friends and creations. Why not write for well established, historical characters and a show that has 50 years of history? Ego. That simple. They wanted to make their own show, with their own creations and then have everyone as they had Robin say, “bow down” to their genius.
Why they think resurrecting GH with GH characters and history wouldn’t satisfy their egos is puzzling, but that’s it.

But that’s now catching up to them. Franco and Sabrina are total failures. Jan and Feb have not been good ratings wise and fans are unhappy with the Robin story from begiining to exit. Now we have the head writer doing press to explain his failures and bringing the network into it. When things fall apart…

I hope that a talent head writer takes over and gets rid of all the dead weight and returns the show to its former glory. But i have a feeling thats never going to happened. GH deserve better than that stuck up prissy prick.

    March 1, 2014 at 4:53 pm

No, not a great storyline at all. Yes they have to leave the door open in the event the character returns. However”Robin” would not leave her family again, even to find Jason. All she would have to do is tell Sonny and Anna. They would know how to locate him.
In my opinion a better scenario would have been leaving to go save Maxie from herself. Pre-taped skype scenes to back home would have kept the leaving more believable. When Maxie returns to PC, minus Robin THENthe mystery of her whereabouts could come to light. Maxie took a later flight after dropping Robin at the airport.
At this point Robin could be anywhere, leaving a trail behind, so everyone knows she is alive.

While I had my up and downs with RC, saving Jason is one of the believable things Robin will do. she loved jason very much and feels like he saved her at the most horrible time In her life. Though still can’t stand how he makes Sabrina into the sainted one to make Robin look bad

    • Rose

      March 1, 2014 at 10:30 pm

He doesn’t need to make Sabrina sainted to make Robin look bad. The way it’s written, she does that all by herself.

I just have to roll my eyes. Ron just wanted to find the way to make Robin look the worst. Robin didn’t have to abandon her child. She could have shared custody off screen. Instead Robin leaves to save a killer.

  59. Tammy

    March 1, 2014 at 6:18 pm

Honestly no I think they could have done better. I am not a scrubs or Robin fan, but I thought the way it was written was the worst. I think they should either recast the character of Robin, or they should of had Robin with PTSD, and split up and share custody. She could still make visits back. They could have moved patrick on.

    • pat

      March 2, 2014 at 10:09 pm

Now you still in love with your wife just because she is ill Patrick should leave her when she needs him. Make no mistake about Patrick he loves Robin I will not think he would leave her because she has PTSD. She needs him . I do not want Robin to have PTSD. That is a disease no one want w to have. She already have the HIV virus. PTSD is a very serious disease. Don’t to wish that

I think it is impossible to come up with a plausible reason for Robin to exit so quickly. The bottom line is they never should have brought her back if she put constraints on the time she would be there. All I can think of is poor Emma. She went through the terrible pain of losing her mother forever (or so she was led to believe) and finally felt some love for another mother figure who would put some stability in her life only to have that taken away too. But that could be overlooked if her mother stayed longer than a month or so and for what — to play superhero and rescue someone she thinks is alive?? And why does Port Charles have a police department anyway. No one ever lets them solve anything, they have too many characters taking the law into their own hands. And of course my heart goes out to Patrick too, but if my spouse left me and my child to go rescue a former boyfriend, my first call would be to a lawyer.

  61. Erin

    March 1, 2014 at 7:26 pm

Personally, I think the braver decision would be to recast Robin. Congrats to Kimberly on her directing ambitions and her opportunities to do that, but I think Ron, Frank and the network are putting too much emphasis on Robin being portrayed by that actress and its wreaking havoc on the show and story lines. Robin’s returns severely disrupted many other story lines for months. Because of the short duration of her stay and the desire to have a large and triumphant return (with many of the ‘villains’ returning), it left little time for the story of Robin’s reintegration into her family and Port Charles before writing her supposedly ‘plausible’ departure. I think THAT is what is the most wrong with his story and exit. There was just not enough time to do both – and really WHY were both necessary. I applaud Ron & Frank for trying to accommodate a actresses desire to do other things while remaining with the show on an ad-hoc basis. I truly believe they made the best decision they thought at the time. However, going forward, if Robin is that critical to the canvas and the actress is not willing to commit to this job and role, then the time has come to cut ties and move on – for everyone.

Ron came up with the most out there reason for Robin to to leave. GH is a disjoint badly written campy hot mess. Ron is so stuck up and in love with himself to understand the damage he is doing to GH. I wish Robin could resuscitate Douglas Marland so he can write GH.

That is what pisses me of with him. He admitted to watching GH in the 80’s but hello, there has been 2 decades of GH since then. New Characters and storiesi in between that you need to learn to have continuity. But he came in and wants to just picked up from the 80’s not learn anything about the characters from after the 80’s and give us a hot pile of mess. When we the viewers who been watching from then on trying telling him that is not who the characters are they are either mocked or blocked. Ron writes for his own enjoyment and not with viewers in mind. And Hus mantra I only block people who are rude is a bull. I wasn’t rude and got blocked I’ve since been unblocked but I would never follow him again. And I know he takes all the heat from disgruntled GH fans but I think Frank the micro- manager is the worst.

    • Johnny

      March 2, 2014 at 2:11 pm

Claire Labine is the only writer who really GOT GH. She excelled at stories about, go figure, the HOSPITAL! She had some action-adventure thrown in, she had a bit of the mob element, but it was not detrimental or overwhelming. And the emotion she packed into her stories. WOW!!!! She made these often-times larger than life caricatures seem like REAL people. Her tenure, From 1993-1996 stands as the Hallmark for not only what GH was, but for what ALL soaps could and should be. I will give Ron Carliwacky credit where it is due. He is freakin’ masterful at telling umbrella stories, and interweaving characters and plot points so all the stories come together. Sometimes, some random little thing will happen and then 6 months in the future, that little tidbit plays into story. I love a writer who can plot like that. but what he is TERRIBLE at far outweighs what he is good at. He rewrites history to the point of absurdity…..then rewrites it again (think Rex’s parentage on OLTL or Franco on GH)….and sometimes again even. He thinks characters are defined by ONE thing and will not write them in ANY other way. For instance…Lucy HAS to be manic and rapid-talking and flailing her arms in every scene…..even if she is just saying “Hi how are you”. Tracy has to be a disgruntled rambling nasty bitch in every scene. And, Ron has no idea how to step back from driving his plots at full velocity. There are never any honest “moments” between characters that don’t further whatever plot he is pushing. I think of a heartfelt moment from 20 years ago that stands out in my mind. It was during Monica’s breast cancer, and her and Tiffany donely shared a beautiful moment, and a hug, and ust talked as women. there was no plot being furthered, nothing advanced, except characters! I could go on and on about Ron’s deficiencies, and I’m sure I will, but that’s enough for now.

That is a good suggestion, but there is a HUGE difference. Tony Geary is in his last years of acting. the writers have destroyed and dismantled his character to the point he is pretty much a non-entity now. Luke is a haggard, over-the-hill lowlife who ran over his grandson. He no longer has the love of Laura to keep him balanced or centered. He is a failure as a father, a husband, and a man. He chases adventures as a way of keeping himself feeling youthful and viable, both of which are fallacies. His appearances can be sporadic in keeping with his character. Kimberly’s can’t really be that way. Robin is a wife, a mother, a doctor, a legacy character who has HIV. She is a young woman who can still drive and command storylines that are relevant, entertaining, and important. Sadly, Tony Geary can no longer do that. This last year, watching him do action-adventure, sci-fi, gunplay…has just been laughably painful to watch. And it’s not all his fault…it is the writers. 35 years ago…okay…in 2014, with him pushing 70 years old…not so much.

I also blame the writing for those cheap stories they are giving him…but word has it that he has threatened to quit the show if he has to take a paycut and from what we are reading it’s massive! Since he only works part time essentially, I think they have a right to ask him to either work FT or cut in pay. That $1.5mm paycheck could go towards other actors who want to be there. It is also rumored that HE DID NOT want to revisit the Luke and Laura story because he moved past that…. well hate to say it but his character is becoming irrelevant, so maybe had he chose to open his mind to it, he and Genie would have recreated a new Luke and Laura…

      • Shay

        March 6, 2014 at 5:11 am

Speaking of Luke, what the heck is going on with him???? He looks like he’s still suffering from an Amsterdam hangover even though he’s been back now for weeks!!! Some of his peculiar appearance/behavior may be purely intentional for storyline purposes, but there seems to be more at play than just that…..

I am for one very ticked at Km, I just think if she was unsure about what she wanted to do, she should never hsve came back! They way her exit was wrote in is ridiculous, leaving her family for another stupid Cassidine out of this world storyline! Really? I for one am very disappointed in her! I do not want Patrick with Sebrina, but I am sure that is where the story will go!

    • Kel

Why be ticked at Kim? She didn’t write the atrocity. They knew how long the had her for even before she came back giving them enoughttime to write something plausible plus she offered to stay longer. I will believe Kim before I believe anything out of the lying twosome mouths. Its become a pattern to now explain storylines on social media instead of on screen.

While I don’t agree how Robin is being written out…I am glad that Patrick knows the truth. And finally robin would never leave her daughter!

With reference to the discussion on Sabrina, I understand she is pregnant in real life. I have never seen chemistry between her and Patrick. My decision would be to retire Sabrina to have her baby, which could be Carlos’ and not Patrick’s. Maybe have Sabrina and Carlos get married, have their baby, and send them back home. I do not see any need for either of these characters on GH…..Sorry! Anyone agree with me???

    • Ang

      March 1, 2014 at 10:58 pm

I agree with Shirley. Sabrina’s purpose (to take Robin’s place) on GH is over and she failed miserably. Since the day that Patrick made his decision he hasn’t bothered to even think about Sabrina. If they put her and Patrick back together after Robin is gone, it makes Sabrina look pitiful and tells the audience she’s okay with being his second choice. What happens to this pitiful character when Robin comes back?

Give the character some self-respect if she stays and put her with someone she has chemistry with. Her and Patrick can co-parent without being together. People do it all the time.

They waste so many opportunities. It’s just puzzling to me. I think since apparently GH films near Grey’s Anatomy Robin & Patrick should fly out to Seattle to have consultations and treatment there onscreen. Emma could get tons of quality onscreen time with Anna and Uncle Mac/Felicia. Lots of story!

ridiculous. You could have just had her presumed dead again. Its been done on other soaps, it would have preserved Robin’s integrity as well as Patrick’s love for her. And it would have made it ok for him to move on for a short time until her next(hopefully permanent) return.

I just said this above- I ‘m not buying what RC is trying to shove down our throats either. No matter what, that Robin & Patrick feeling won’t die. That RC guy can’t gauge the audience if he can’t see what the majority of viewers want or will not even remotely stomach. I’m not seeing a reason for Patrick to settle for something else. His wife is alive and just forced to work a long way from their family for a while. Patrick can be a spouse that keeps the home fires burning – single handedly taking care of Emma, home and more demanding work at GH. People have to do it everyday in long distance situations (jobs, education, older family needs help or most unfortunately the enduring military families).

Give the guy a break. It isn’t easy writing for an iconic show like GH when you have fans of the show that give you heck no matter what you do. So basically I think that the fans would be mad no matter how he wrote Robin out. IMO, I think that Patrick and Emma should leave town with Robin and have a happily ever after, the end.

  77. Kel

    March 2, 2014 at 8:36 am

My Problem is not who she is leaving to save since I love both Robin and Jason. The Story is jus plain Stupid. There could have been other Scenarios as discussed above where she had to go but was able to keep in touch with her family. A simple mention of them visiting her when they aren’t on screen. But how would poor little Emma get to bond with her new mommy and sibling? Kim’s first couple of months was waisted with Robin trying to escape the geriatric bunch then watching her husband marrying another woman and to top it of, she waited weeks to make his choice. That’s why it feels like she just came back and is leaving her family so soon. Don’t forget Kim also offered to stay longer and they refused. This us more to get people hoping Jason is alive because they know they Screwed up. That’s why Jason name is always mentioned and a recast will not work. They need to get rid of Howarth who is making a mockery of GH and Alderson who I’ve yet to come across a GH fan who likes her character.

    • Li

I agree that when they brought Robin back initially that they could have sped up to the reunion instead of dragging it out and wasting character screen time that could have been better spent. As for KM leaving or coming back in the first place, besides ratings I think she did it for the fans even though she’s enjoying doing work behind the camera. I think she gave what time her schedule would allow to give the fans Robin for a while and the writers ultimately decide what to do with that time. I buy into her wanting to save Jason, but the rest of the details surrounding it i.e. trusting Victor Cassidine, agreeing to not have anyone know where she is, Patrick just in limbo, suck. I love GH, my one remaining soap since OLTL being cancelled and like with any soap it is what is, there’s always going to be storylines or things the characters do that will tick you off but that’s soaps.

Robin used to be a character who would sacrifice her own happiness for those she loved. Now she is a character who sacrifices those she loves most (Patrick and Emma) and their happiness under the pretense of it being her own sacrifice. If this had to be written as Robin sacrificing happiness, then the sacrifice she should be making is to sacrifice needing to rescue Jason herself to ensure she is there for her daughter and husband.

RC blaming everybody but himself for this debacle of stupid.

Ron did the right thing. Unfortunately, it’s very difficult to have Kimberly coming and going like this. I really thought that Patrick would divorce her, marry Sabrina and then, as Kimberly returns for her visits, the tension and love would be a great conflict!

Too bad the writers, producers and network left the viewers out of their decision making process. They try to blame the “constraints” of Kimberly McCullough’s schedule. Yeah, right. Aren’t they the ones that had Robin, Scrubs, ScrubsEmma and the Scorpio family twiddling their thumbs for the first 2 months of KMc’s time back on the show? Not to mention no significant storyline or onscreen time for them these last months. SMH. The writers/producers/network have done an obvious, seemingly purposeful, disservice to the viewers and this set of characters (esp. Robin and Robert Scorpio. And as a viewer I feel so disrespected and patronized. GH definitely have to do better when Kimberly McCullough comes back. I hoe KMc comes back sooner rather than later. Viewers, Robin, Scrubs, ScrubsEmma and the Scorpio(Devane) family deserve better.

As an aside – perhaps if the GH writers put more effort on credible writing and less time on Twitter…

su0000, you can LOL all you want. And yes, RC does have to put up with viewers questioning his competence of putting out a great product on ABC Daytime. The point is at the end of the day the GH Head Writer needs to be WRITING a good story. We can tell where his mind is- on himself. He inserts himself in a lot of media instead of presenting GH storylines in a great manner ONSCREEN! He’ll certainly need to use all his working hours to fix what he has done to Robin Scorpio-Drake’s and Scrubs when Kimberly McCullough comes back. RC needs to stay in the background… working and not alienating a lot of viewers.

I am a huge GH fan! I’m not loving it right now and I agree with most that the exit story is not great! I will also say that Jason Thompson has ROCKED some teary scenes! While we mourned the first departure he was amazing and his acting has improved in the last few years! So realistic! Robin is epic, memorable, kind, and strong. This reunion left me disappointed. It took too long for them to reunite, then it took too long for Patrick to make his “decision” and then when they are supposed to be so happy together, it was just blah… They have chemistry! It was missed this time. Please I hope he’s not with Sabrina again, but someone new. We need to move on. We need a sweet GH couple to pull for… I just can’t figure out who… Good luck to Kimberly. Next time she returns I hope it’s magical!

I want Patrick to be able to move on and not sit around waiting for Robin for God knows how long. It doesn’t ahve to be with Sabrina but he needs to be fully involved with his baby. I hope Sabrina and Emma can still have a relationship.

  85. Johnny

    March 2, 2014 at 1:27 pm

No! I give the writers no leeway here. They had six months to craft a palatable exit for Robin and this is an epic fail. Robin is a character who was left an orphan at a young age by her parents who were presumed dead. The fact that she would willingly go work for the band of merry thugs who imprisoned her in the first place is totally ludicrous. She is being asked to bring back three murderers from the dead. Her other choice is to stay with her family. There is no reason why her family could not go with her as she worked on thawing these criminals. Victor Cassadine would know that Robin would operate at peak capacity if she HAD her husband and child there, rather than being forced to do it after two years in captivity. I said it before…maybe if Victor had shown her pictures of MANY beloved characters, like Alan, Emily, Georgie, and Jason…these were all people that Robin had deep emotional connections with. At this point, I don’t think many fans would mind if they wrote Patrick, Robin, and Emma out together. Fans love happy endings. Yes, the extremely talented Jason Thompson would be out of a job, but he would rebound quickly. He would make a dynamite new Adam Newman on Y and R when they choose to recast. Patrick’s other story options are just not working. Him and Robin define each other on the show. They have been left hanging, in limbo, again, with no clear way for Patrick to move on. To keep Thompson on the show, him and Robin have to divorce. sure it would be an unpopular choice but the show has to take a stand one way or the other. They have to make it clear that Robin is not coming back…and allow Patrick to move on, or no future romance for Patrick will work on any level.

By trashing Robin this basically tries to set up this scenario so he can be pissed and move on realizing Robin chose Jason over her family she just fought two years to get back to. Enter the Saint Sparklepony.

    March 2, 2014 at 1:44 pm

And anytime Sam talks, basically, requires a laugh track. She won’t accept her own father because he’s a mobster. CUE THE LAUGHS. she laid in bed with a cold blooded murderer for the better part of 10 years and sired a child with him, and still refers to him as a saint. Now she’s involved with a man who is only suspected of trying to murder his wife, and she is doing everything she can to prove his innocence. WHY? You’d think she’d be majorly turned on by the fact that she is involved with another potential murderer! Truer to Sam’s character would be her saying “Are you sure you didn’t try to kill her?? Not even once? I kinda dig murderers!” The LAUGH TRACKS would make this show make sense!

I totally, agree… the “exit” took too long. for those in shock… just get it over with

be gone… tears… Scrubs was mishandled… not in the right, capable hands… I worried this might be the case… with the new writing “team”

it didn’t pan out… Emma without, is my main concern. i’m being true to life.. but.. if it’s not with Patrick… Emma is a glaring, without. ??? I don’t even know.. myself.. what the appropriate exit should have been.

the easiest way… would have been… her leaving to do AIDS research… and that she is having a difficult transition and acclimating to the real world… whereas… her real world.. encompassed.. hiv… her state of mind… her not having that perfect world… and not wanting to hold ANY ONE back… tears… she attained all that she strived for… but… being imprisoned… waylayed her progression

psychosis.. in the real world… happens… she’s the type of person… who held on as best she can… she didn’t have it all… it was perfect… and now.. has too many holes… and doesn’t trust her being… her being with Patrick… and draws from her upbringing… how often… Anna and Robert left, her

I wholeheartedly, agree… that they spent way too much time… of the 6 month comeback.. wasted on showing… her imprisonment… when she could have had those extra 2 months to solidify her LOVING Patrick and Emma… or,, why bother? TPTB.. do not share with the audience how long the “story” arc is

I knew from the get go… that Scrubs wasn’t heading in “my” direction… so I had to blindseye and backburner… my recall of Scrubs… hence, I congratulate the former writing team… for featuring… Robin and Patrick… it’s not lost on me… this is the best story… in a long time… on GH that deserves prominence… as the best couple in recent memory…

I don’t have an aswer for Emma… other than… since they’ve gone this route… ie: Anna and Robert leaving Robin…. why not leave well enough alone… and show… Mac and Felicia caring for Emma… we’d know she was well loved and cared for

I don’t think it’s fair… that KM’ should shoulder this send off… wasn’t it interviewed and pressed… that KM’ said… We – the fans – would not like the outcome of said storyline?

Jason Thompson… has IT… the embodiment… of Serial…. should he continue on… and he will always have IT… in spades… husband, father, lover… material… at his beck and call…. if the writers go BACK and further alienate the fans… with stupidity…. that he’d go back to Sabrina… for the sake of the child… and totally.. ignore what happened to Emma… Robins child… and “surrender” to Sabrina…. ???? NO – NO – NO

    180 JT’ Patrick… and start over…

    KM’ Robin ??? I don’t know… and It’s because of the writing… that I digress… her place is off the canvas…

    WHAT has me excited, currently

Sonny! ? I’m saying it…. Maurice Benard’ Sonny… IS, way ON

his scenes and story with Rick Hearst, Ric… is the bomb… I swear I have not followed RH’ daytime career… wasn’t watching GH… or B&B… but… he’s staggeringly present… simmering with vitality…. and keeps you wondering… what is he about…. and this wouldn’t work… if it wasn’t for the other 1/2 of story… and that’s Sonny

I get the immense popularity… of MB’…. when he showcases… his dead on SMILE and those dimples… it’s pause, sensations, and he’s on… for those who can’t go with out…

if TPTB wan’t to fix… this big part of the show… they had best.. find him a woman… and if it’s not Kelly Sullivan…. IMO… I”ll stand… and bellow… TPTB… wasted… the biggest blunder… of the featured RC/FV with production… what a blow to the whole canvas…

so… to rectify… a huge part of the canvas.. they should bring back.. Dahlia Salem… the ex assistant district attorney… to solidify… Sonny

she was so alluring and sexy… with Sonny – she can mob tied up with Sonny.. with her legalese expertise… and lawyer on his behalf… against Scotty

this would round out his character… and platform… and forefront, Sonny, is back on track

Puhlease… writers…. don’t waste AJ… he’s the pinnacle… for the quartermaines… and is a big reason… Micheal is interesting… I hope they find a way out of this – it gives me pause and will really make me question… the writing… if they squander this as well

    OH lordy

      • Patrick

        March 3, 2014 at 9:42 pm

LOL… I agree with you. honestly

I should have prefaced, my lil build up … for this part of the pie… that GH wants on the canvas (to help further along… Sonny’s presence)

Sonny is not out of his element… with Rick Hearst, Ric
Sonny was amazing with Dahlia Salem… as in love interest

since, GH production… is featuring so heavily… the dynamics with Sonny and the mob gang again… I thought these two characters are good with Sonny. and it would give him something.. to play off of … on his own… without always being… foreshadowed… by Julian and Ava.. who are bigger than life… plus… LOL…I fiind it funny at times… how much fans love this or that… character… MB’ Sonny is : has a dedicated following… I don’t get it sometimes

i have to agree with another poster… that MB’ Sonny… has become a caricature of his former self…

        blame the writing

The actor who portrays Patrick was hired to be Robin’ love intrest that’s the reason why he has this job in the first place. No one has to sit around and wait for anybody in scripted drama. The writer’s job is to make sure that doesn’t happen there is plenty for Patrick to do besides crawl on Sabrina’s lap and carry her purse.

However, it should be more to this character than being defined by “any” pairing at this point. He is the vet here, not only was Robin’s story bogged down with giving a huge chunk of her “limited time” onscreen in regards to marketing Sabrina she stayed too long in captivity which seems like the story is now being given the bum’s rush.

Which is my problem with this story it was too much about Sabrina and Patrick and not enough about “Robin’s life.” I didn’t care about “Patrick’s choice” and having her sitting around waiting for his decision. Oh. wait, women don’t drive story on soaps…silly me unless its pairing driven they’re screwed.

Everytime Robin aired there were parallel scenes focusing on Sabrina, or the dialog was about Sabrina. Robin fans didn’t tune in to see Robin’s story hijacked by Sabrina. It seems to me Sabrina was marketed on the back of Robin fans and the popularity of Robin Scorpio Drake and I already went through that re: the Nurses Ball…enough of this!

I recall how Robion’s death storyline was minimized only to show case three people from another show and rumor has it that Kim time was cut short and rumor has it that she was told this time she wasn’t needed.

Do I think having Robin going off to save Jason makes the most sense, given those two characters history with each other? NO.

Because it isn’t giving Robin the sympathy card no matter how you spin it she still appears selfish for leaving her child to go off and save the world of three criminals. Any other time maybe I could draw on the Scorpio history of abandoning their kid to super spy and it would make sense but after being held two years in captivity being back a few weeks leaving her kid. How does that make Robin look good when they got a woman standing in the wings rubbing her belly to again reclaim Robin’s life…

If all these money makers can only come up wtih this as a solution (which other soaps do very well to explain characters exit)… no wonder the genre is half dead.

The idea is perfection. It allows the fans to have suspense , and a workable exit for Kimberly. I have loved this show since I was in grade school. It’s nice to see it still going strong with intriguing storylines. As a fan, I understand the need to write for exits, and I couldn’t be more happy to see this creative way of leaving a good long cliff hanger and possible return.

Maybe a re- cast , if Kimberly de sides to not return, but whatever is decided, General Hospital never disappoints.

The action adventure part of Robin’s return was great mostly because it involved anna robert and faison. The writers never explored any jind of post traumatic stress. Robin leaving Emma to go get her hed straight would make more sense to me.

As a fan of this show for over 43 years, and the fact that I remember Robin when she was 1st on at the age of 7, it is very disappointing the way she had to leave. I love her and Patrick together, but it is heartbreaking to see a mother have to leave her precious daughter and her husband like that. It is also unfair to Patrick as a character to have to wait for her return under these ridiculous circumstances. Also I can see what happens next Dr. Obrecht sees Faison is dead and she goes after Robin again in time we will all find out. very disappointing. The only good thing out of this whole storyline, at least you didn’t disappoint us long time fans, and keep Patrick and Robin together.

  94. Professor

    March 3, 2014 at 5:44 pm

My idea: Robin, Patrick and Emma leave together (3 months on screen); Robin conducts her work for Victor off screen. Step 2- Robin is recast and brought back with both Patrick & Emma. New Robin could continue the storyline going forward.

I was not thrilled with the exit story, but I appreciate how difficult it is for the writers. It offers an interesting prospect for the next return.

I have always thought Robin and Jason were the all time best pairing. My only hope is that Steve Burton and Kimberly McCollough can both return together for the next arc.

Soap viewers of all 4 remaining shows owe a debt of gratitude to the fortitude and genius of Ron Carlivati and Frank Valentini. They saved GH and in many respects the industry.

I am all for them. Come what may. It will all be good.

Lots of thoughtful comments here – too many to read all of them, but clearly there are opposing opinions. Like many others, I adore Robin, Patrick, and Emma. For me no other couple has ever had the on-screen chemistry that Robin and Patrick had (before she had Emma).
I can imagine the challenge this presented for the writers and while I was very disappointed in the meager reunion between the two, the last couple of weeks has somewhat made up for the rocky start. Unlike some, I do believe that Robin’s character would feel compelled to save Jason, but I think her character would have come up with a solution (ask Anna & Robert to bring Jason back, etc.) that would allow her to stay with Robin.
Jason is such a powerful actor – when given a strong story – and he’s at his best when he is fighting against himself. If Kimberly is absent for more than 12 months, Patrick’s character needs to move on (and be appropriately tortured by it) or he needs some storyline that otherwise showcases his talents. When Kimberly does return, (and please don’t ever tell me that she won’t) I would love to see her back on staff at GH as the strong, spunky woman shw once was. Assuming that she and Patrick were estranged before her return, I’d like nothing better than to see the two of them work through their anger, resentment, etc., fall into each other’s arms, and then realize they still have resentments, etc. to work through – much like they did during their early years.

  97. Karen

    March 3, 2014 at 9:50 pm

The solution to the problem is quit writing major stories for characters who are only going to be around a short time and instead, write major stories for the veterans who are steadfast, loyal to GH, and have enough fans that if they returned, GH would get that ratings bump anyway, like, oh say Elizabeth Webber!! I am tired of actors like Kimberly and Tony Geary holding stories and other characters hostage while they go off and do whatever they want, while others stay at GH, are just as beloved, just as good at their craft, have tons of fans, and all they are used for is to prop newbies. Jane Elliot is another who comes to mind. Laura Wright is being wasted right now. It’s not that hard to fix the problem.

Kimberly has the right to move on… but the character deserves an actress to commit to the part and bring back the relationships she shared with so many others… again the character has to trump the actor/ actress…..the story of Robin should continue … as far as Luke, well again, if you don’t want to be there FT and have other interests, you have to take the paycut … after all these years, Tony needs to understand that it’s in the best interest of the SHOW… stop being a prima donna, take the pay cut, work your few months a year, and let’s bring on some fun loving characters!

Maybe nu – Robin can bring back Alan…. nu- Jason….along with other favs!

Well he’s clearly not a parent, because NO parent would abandon their child to save an ex-boyfriend; under any circumstance. Fans understand the need to exit her, but why in such a nonsensical way? Why no contact with her husband and child? No wife and mother alive would ever consent to that. And what about Sam? Why didn’tt hey have Robin tell her that her husband is alive. The poor woman is walking around in a relationship with Silas, when the love of her life is very much alive. Cruel.

GH Nurses’ Ball 2018 Conclusion: Anna Learns Henrik Is Her Son, Maxie Has Her Son, Ava Wows, Mike & Sonny Duet!

In the most moving and exciting episode of this 2018 GH Nurses’ Ball, all roads lead to the truth about Henrik and how he is really living his life as none other than Peter August (Wes Ramsey).  First, Robert (Tristan Rogers) who has punched out by Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) on stage drags him outside of the ballroom for his part in the cover[up.  Robert is worried about Anna’s (Finola Hughes) safety. Nina (Michelle Stafford) confronts her husband about how long he’s known who Henrik is.  She later figures out why he has been trying to whisk her and Charlotte out of the country.

Onstage Mike (Max Gail) takes a mic, and makes a moment of saying he has Alzheimer’s and then launches into the song he remembers,“The Summer Wind.” As he sings, he imagines being accompanied by a big band as he proceeds to deliver a showstopper.  Suddenly, in reality, Mike is lost and disoriented … scared he stares around at the audience.  Sonny (Maurice Benard) gets up to the stage to help his dad by cluing him into the lyrics.  Sonny sings with Mike and gets him through the song.  They receive a standing ovation.

Ava (Maura West) who is preparing to perform her number comes across a moment between Kiki (Hayley Erin) and Griffin (Matt Cohen) backstage where they are in a hug.  Little does Ms. Jerome know that Griffin was consoling Kiki after her lewd run-in with Dr. Bensch (James DePaiva).   Then it is Maura West, who truly brings down the house for this year’s ball with her Ava’s rendition of “You Don’t Own Me.”  That tune was certainly a nod to all those that Ava feels have wronged her.  Yup! Sonny, Griffin and Kiki we think are some on her list!   Dressed in a white pant suit and accompanied by a bevy of male dancers, West knocked the interpretation of the song out of the park, to make it work for her character and the Nurses’ Ball.

Elsewhere, Maxie (Kristen Storms) has gone into labor, and Peter is right there safely delivering her baby boy. Maxie is taken by paramedics to the hospital, while Peter calls Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) at Maxie’s urging to let him know what happened.  Spinelli has just found out, through Sam (Kelly Monaco) and Jason (Steve Burton) that Peter is Henrick!

Anna is walking into a trap on the pier as she waits for Henrick. When he appears, he has no idea that Anna is his mother, and thinks it’s all been a set-up.  He points a gun to eliminate her once and for all, but Anna says she has something to tell him.

The Nurses’ Ball concludes with a touching finale of “Champion” featuring: Epiphany (Sonya Eddy), Felix (Marc Anthony Samuel), Bobbie (Jackie Zeman), Amy (Risa Dorken) and the other nurses.

So, what did you think of the final episode of the GH Nurses’ Ball 2018?  What did you think of the musical performances? Do you think Maxie’s baby will be OK? Will Anna be able to tell Henrik that she is his mom? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.
