GH's Laura Wright Talks On: Her Emotional Scenes As Carly Reels From Morgan's Death, Bryan Craig's Exit & CarSon's Future!

This week on ABC’s General Hospital, a mother’s worst nightmare came true when her son is killed in the most tragic and horrific set of circumstances that will have a ripple effect on her entire family, and their sworn enemies.

When Daytime Emmy winner Bryan Craig (Morgan) made the decision to exit General Hospital, the GH writing team, along with series executive producer Frank Valentini, began to craft a story that will tear the popular duo of Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Carly (Laura Wright) apart at the seams, and place guilt on all the people in Morgan’s life for their part in his demise.  In an ironic twist Sonny, who has decided to make his enemy Julian Jerome (William deVry) pay for his crimes (since the justice system failed to keep him behind bars for committing, or attempting murder) decided to call off the hit that would have killed him.

But Morgan, who has been spiraling out of control since Ava (Maura West) had been replacing his bipolar meds with placebos, got drunk and stole Julian’s car, only to have it blow up with him right next to it.  When Carly learns that her son perished, it has been gut-wrenching performance after gut-wrenching performance from the cast involved in this story, but in particular Daytime Emmy-winner Laura Wright, as the mother trying to come to grips with the loss of her troubled son, and that her husband, for all intent and purposes, “murdered” him in a senseless act of violence meant for someone else!

On-Air On-Soaps chatted with Laura to gain some insight into how she played some of the key moments viewers have watched unfold and that are about to come, what she thinks of how this story is about to play out for CarSon long term, and how she is getting through playing emotional beat after beat in one of the most dramatic storylines on GH in some time.  An actor’s actor, and one-of-a-kind performer, here’s what Laura shared about this heart-stopping week of air shows, performances, and more!

It has been one of the saddest weeks in recent memory on General Hospital.  Just when you thought all was patched up, and well in Sonny and Carly’s relationship, their entire world and foundation is rocked, when Morgan is dead due to a car bomb explosion.  They had their calm before the storm, thanks to Sonny having a ‘come to Jesus’ moment, literally with Griffin (Matt Cohen) inside the church, where he calls off the hit on Julian, but it appears on the surface Morgan was caught in the crosshairs of this!

LAURA:   They set it up so well, and it’s such good soap opera.  Sonny comes to Carly and tells her he wants to be with her, and that he loves her.  Then, as viewers saw, she says to him, “I love you so much, and I know what you’re saying without saying it.”  They go back to their house, and they make love, and she gets called to the Metro Court.  When she later goes home to wait for him, he comes back with devastating news.

After Carly learns from Sonny that Morgan is dead, viewers see her crumble to the floor as he tries to catch her.  In the episode that followed, it’s now the next morning and some viewers commented about the decision to go that way in telling the story.  What did you think of Carly waking up thinking Morgan was still alive with Bobbie (Jackie Zeman) by her beside?

LAURA:  The idea they were trying to give to the audience is you wake up the next day after a tragedy, and the sun is shining.  Carly is like, “Mom, what are you doing here?”  She doesn’t remember being given a sedative to calm down the night before.  It’s all as if nothing happened, and then it all comes crashing down again.  It was just so sad, because she thinks Bobbie is talking about the dream she had about Morgan, and she says it’s not true, and it’s awful.  Jackie Zeman was great in these scenes.  I remember flicking her arm away from me in the scene going, “Don’t!  Don’t do that!”

The emotional rollercoaster has been riveting to watch for Morgan’s family, and those who had a romantic relationship with him (i.e. Kiki and Ava).

Courtesy/ABC

LAURA:   I have not seen a weak script in the bunch, and the only thing the fans might struggle with is that things had to be cut, because the emotional stuff plays longer and we only have 40 minutes an episode of story.  So some scenes may seem shorter, or they are trimmed faster, so you might miss an emotional beat.  That’s a hard one, because everyone was finding out Morgan died.  And, poor Chad Duell (Michael)! He had to shoot when Michael finds out a week after he shot the aftermath scenes, but he was so great.

What was the last scene you actually filmed with Bryan Craig?

LAURA:  It was the scene that aired when Morgan was freaking out about being expelled from school in front of Carly and Sonny, and when we shot those scenes, Maurice and I played it originally from more from an understanding place.  However, our writer, Elizabeth Korte came down to the set and said, “You guys have to play more emotional!”  So Morgan had to bring it, and Sonny and Carly had to be on him and pissed off, and not be believing him.  Elizabeth said, “This is so huge, because this is the last time you see him alive.”  Then, I had to walk off set.  Frank Valentini comes up to me and says, “We can’t tell you anything!” (Laughs)  It just affects people lives, because none of us know when it will be the last time we see someone before they walk out the door, and then there is a car accident, or something.  So, taping this I was a mess.  Later, even watching the episode I was gut-punched.

Did you say your “goodbyes” to Bryan?

Courtesy/ABC

LAURA:   I had more scenes after we taped that.  I still had Carly’s scenes with Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) to tape.  I didn’t really think about it, because Bryan was back taping the next day, and taping a lot of scenes with Maurice.  I haven’t seen Bryan since, and in the story of it all, I didn’t want to.  I needed to stay in the headspace that I was in.

Were you surprised by Bryan’s decision to leave GH?

LAURA:  Oh, no.  I have known for a long time.  I am never surprised when someone like him decides to leave.  He is an actor, and he is young, and we didn’t become actors to just play the same roles for the rest of our lives.  I have been fortunate enough to play three.  I think people should do what they want to do, as long as they are not jerks about it, and Bryan is not.  He is gracious and kind, and has always been fun to work with.

How awful do you think it will be if Carly ever found out what Ava (Maura West) did — switching Morgan’s bipolar meds for placebos?  This action led to the downfall of Morgan, and set up this horrific chain of events.

Courtesy/ABC

LAURA:   I think she would try to kill her.  I think Carly would lose her mind, because in her mind Morgan would never have been drinking, never would have been in the car, and none of these things that led up to his death would have happened if his medications had been working.  You will see that unfold in dialog coming up where she calls Dr. Maddox (Anthony Montgomery) over and says, “I want to know why my son is dead!”  And, if Ava’s daughter was dead, and the situation was reverse, Ava would want to kill Carly.

It’s despicable what Ava did to Morgan.

LAURA:  Yes, and Ava becomes riddled with guilt, and is in shock, and the ramifications are going to be huge.  You can’t hand that to a better actor than Maura West!

Now that Carly believes that Sonny caused their son’s death, does she completely distant herself from him?

Courtesy/ABC

LAURA:  Oh, it’s so good!  Now that she knows that he is responsible for Morgan’s death, she is filled with anger and hatred.  She is livid, and beyond distraught as it is.  At first, remember, she is just thinking it was a car accident. So she calls over Dante and she says she wants to know exactly how Morgan died.  Dante can barely speak when he tells her about the car explosion.  It was like pulling teeth to get information out of Dante, because he knows what the final question will be from Carly: “Did Sonny put the bomb in Julian’s car?”  So those scenes were really great.  Dom and I were just right there in the moment.  At one point they wanted me to get up and walk outside, and the producers said, “Can you just cross to make that work?”  And I said, “Yes, because she probably wants to throw up, and she needs to get some air.”  Dom and I really worked hard on those scenes, and thinking back it was so heavy.  It was so sad for everyone, and Maurice just kills it in this storyline.  He has a thousand things coming up he can pull from for consideration for the Emmys.

The key scenes, where Sonny walks in and sees Carly on the floor listening to the voice message she left on Morgan’s phone following his death; take me through how that was played, because it was outstanding and so raw.

Courtesy/ABC

LAURA:  It was originally written when Sonny comes in that I would hit and punch him, and be screaming and crying.   I said, “I can’t do the stereotypical thing.”  I told Frank Valentini, I had been up since 3AM in the morning trying to figure this beat out, and I can’t.  Unless I just hit Sonny and he doesn’t move, and I hit him again with everything I have and he doesn’t move, and tears are running down my eyes.  But then I said, “Can we try something else?”  I walked over to Maurice with a picture of Morgan, and we requested a photo of Bryan Craig when he was really young, as young as we could get.  Carly just put the picture in Sonny’s face and I say, “Our little boy, our sweet little boy is dead!”  Then I screamed and said, “And you killed him!”  And then, I smashed the picture to the ground, and walked away.  It was intense, and everyone on the set afterwards was silent.  Later, I got an email from a couple of the producers who were like, “I don’t know whose idea it was to change it from the punching to that, but it was unbelievable.”  And I go, “Oh, thank God!”   Because you just don’t know if things are going to work when they are on the screen, and you get one shot at it … and smashing the photo.   Frank did clear it with the writers first.  It’s not about the punching, or the smashing of the picture.  It’s the pain behind it that sells it to the audience.  They trusted me to do this, and it turned out great.

The dissolution of Sonny and Carly’s marriage has been building for quite some time, and there were major hints of it back in February when Carly found out about the arms deal and went ballistic!  She has been one step away with being so disgusted with his life, and the stage had been set that if there was a major tragedy it would be the breaking point for her.  On Friday’s episode, viewers saw that Carly decided to leave Sonny and packed her bags.  Will she go through with it?

Courtesy/ABC

LAURA:  If she does, this would not just be about walking out on him, because of Julian; this would be walking out on him, because in her mind, he killed our son.  Now every time she looks at him she will see the man that killed her son.

So far they have never found Morgan’s body, but some DNA evidence and remains.  Doesn’t that leave the door open for a Morgan return via an actor with a new face?

LAURA:  I guess, but if I even go there mentally it cheapens what I am doing right now.  If that is what the show chooses to do down the road that is fine, but right now it’s full out being played that Morgan is dead.  Jason (Billy Miller) saw it happen, and I have a really great scene coming up with Billy Miller.

Do you think this is the end of Sonny and Carly?

LAURA:  I would say so … unless … she somehow finds out different about how Morgan died, because remember Sonny called off the bomb.

Chloe Lanier has been winning raves in her new GH role as Nelle.  What are your thought on her performance, and the audiences’ concern she is going to screw over Carly, and may just be a “Carly mini-me”?   Carly took to this girl rather fast, wouldn’t you say?  Will Nelle be there for Carly in her time of sorrow?

LAURA:  Chloe is so talented.  I love her, she is great.  I never have had a problem with Carly befriending her so easily, because Carly felt she needed a puppy to take care of, because Josslyn is becoming a bratty teenager, and her sons are grown up, and here is this girl which Carly has some guilt over and believes is the one that helped her daughter survive a kidney transplant, and her edginess Carly gets.  Because I think Carly sees herself in her, and needs a project, I bought right into it.  There are a million reasons why people will buy into something that other people don’t see.  That happens all day in life.  The audience sees all the other manipulative things Nelle is doing.  For instance, Carly does not see her at the top of the stairs staring.  In the big picture story something like that can only work if Carly believes that this girl is loyal and has her back, and then later has her knees taken out.  Right now, Nelle is there for Carly and the Corinthos family, and being supportive.

Courtesy/ABC

A lot of people are suspecting that Chloe is Carly’s daughter!  Thoughts?

LAURA:  I have to say if that were true, I think Carly would know! (Laughs)  If it were to turn out that Nelle is really Carly’s daughter, I don’t know if I would understand that one, but I would play it.  Honestly, I don’t know why Nelle is so hurt and angry.  I don’t know her back-story, as of yet.

You have had such a fantastic career in soaps with some heavy-duty storylines on Loving, Guiding Light and General Hospital.  Where would you rank this one?

LAURA:   All I can say is the scenes I shot after Morgan is dead, I don’t remember seeing the cameras, because as an actress I was, and had to be, so in the moment.  I mean the ramifications of this story … it’s Dante’s brother, Sonny’s son, etc.  When you are performing scenes in a story, and the crew is silent, you know it’s different and something special is happening.

How did you find out the story surrounding Morgan’s death, and how it would play out?

Courtesy/ABC

LAURA:   It happened in passing that I heard that Bryan was leaving.  Then I had heard something about how they were going to kill the character.  It’s never the kind a story a mom wants to tell … it’s a hard story to tell.  When I heard how they were going to construct it I thought it was great, because it engulfs everybody, and it was a way to cause trouble in the relationship between Sonny and Carly, and you understood why.  It was a way to pull in and tie-in the Jeromes.  Now it affects Michael, and they even shot scenes with the Quartermaine’s finding out.  It’s an umbrella story that is really well-done.  I am very proud of everyone all around.

Will scenes from this story be part of your Emmy submission?

LAURA:  I am pretty sure they will be. (Laughs)  But I have to see all the episodes and scenes together, first.  Even sitting here talking to you as Laura, and thinking about Carly finding out her son has died and playing those scenes, it makes me very sad, depressed, and a little nauseous.  It’s like it really happened.

That’s what makes you such a great actress – how deep you can go, and where you go, and how you feel these things – that’s what makes you so good at your craft.

LAURA:   Thank you.  I try to be as real as I possibly can.  It’s the hardest work I have ever done.  The material is the most heartbreaking I have ever done.  I have been taping like three episodes a day, but on the flip side of it, I will say you are getting it all done, and you are staying in an emotional place.

We will all need ten boxes of Kleenex before all this is done!

LAURA:  I was walking down the hallway and Jane Elliot (Tracy) says to me, “Unbelievable.”   I   said, “Thank you so much, Jane.”  But then she adds, “And I’m so glad it’s not me” (Laughs)   It’s a hard story to tell, and to honor the material that has been given to you as an actor, you have to go there one hundred percent.  What’s weird is I can be at my daughter’s volleyball game, and then the next morning start driving to LA and my stomach starts getting in knots, and I become in Carly’s head space, and I can cry just when I am getting to the studio.

GH put out a casting call recently, which everybody presumes is a recast for Morgan.  If they were to tell that story a year from now, and he was alive, that would be another huge beat for Carly to play!  Would that ruin it for you an actor that you put all this work into the characters demise, and then lo and behold he is alive?

LAURA:   No, not at all!  A year from now if they write it, and it’s good, that’s a whole other story I get a chance to play.  I believe being an actress on a soap opera is like being a kid in a candy store.  There are no limitations, and the only limitations we have is what we put on ourselves.  The second people say, “I never”, or “we never”, then we limit ourselves.  But hey, soaps have been going on for decades, and still going, and it’s because we tell these kinds of stories, and the fans want these stories to continue on.  So, if Morgan climbs out of the ravine a year later, and Carly goes: “Wow!  That was a long time to hold your breath!” (Laughs) … if that’s my dialog I will figure out a way to deliver that.

Courtesy/ABC

As this story continues to unravel, what kind of journey would you tell the fans of General Hospital that they are about to embark on?

LAURA:  Fans are going to go on this very emotional tragic journey with the Corinthos family.  I was concerned how this story was going to be written for Carly, but it has been blowing my mind how good it is.

So, what has been your favorite scene thus far featuring Laura Wright as Carly following Morgan’s death? Do you think Sonny and Carly can work their way back to eacho ther from this huge rift in their relationshp?  Will Carly find out what Ava had perpetrated against her son?  If so, how will she make her pay?  Share your thoughts in the comment section below!

I wouldnt recast…keep the character dead…lets have a real death of a character for a change or those emotional scenes are pointless!!!

i agree with you. In my opinion, if they would recast the storyline with his bi-polar diagnosis and how he play it, with his meds being played with, and his action that resulted in his poor judgement would be in vain.

My prediction: they will recast and pretty much drop the bipolar storyline.

As much as I don’t like thinking it, I would find that a real death would be so much more heartbreaking and the impact would be far more powerful instead of having us take a ride for a few months or so then find a recast in place. That’s been done so much that when characters come back from the dead it’s a joke. It definitely isn’t the old way of telling a story like they used to. Back then, when your character died, your character really was dead and that’s what made the folks watching the show cry because they knew they weren’t going to see that character again.

That is so true…back then i could get emotionally involved with theses shows and feel for the characters like they are real people…thats what i like about British Coronation Street t-their characters stay dead…but our soaps have gotten lazy-now when a character dies i say so what because sooner or later they might come back.

I agree. I think it cheapens all this storytelling and it’s been done to death! (no pun!) I say leave it alone …. leave Morgan dead… move on to greater storylines and see where Carly goes next without Sonny.

I would say that Carly holding the picture of Morgan as a child, and telling Sonny he killed their baby boy, was just heart wrenching, and made an emotional impact that the audience could feel. The second question is really hard, because you love that person, but your child is dead, and the cause is a result of your husbands need for vengeance. I can’t see Carly and Sonny staying together after that. And for Ava, once Carly finds out about the meds being replaced, she will go after Ava, and nothing and no one will be able to stop Carly. This storyline has been heartbreaking, losing a child in any matter is unbearable, but the actors involved have proven that they all can hit it out of the park with the material given to them.

No doubt Laura’s bringing her A Game but it’s hard for me to truly invest for a few reasons–

#1 GH brings people back from the dead too much so the ramification of death cheapens the emotions. GH needs to make this death permanent & make it really alter the lives of those left behind.

#2 Carly crawled back to Sonny even though his criminal life got Michael shot in the head & in a coma for years. She never should have forgiven that. That should have been the line in the sand yet she chose him over the sake of her kids. Her anger is too little too late IMO. She’s as responsible in this as he is.

#3 GH always whitewashes Sonny & Jason so I’m sure in the end this bomb will have been set by someone else and “poor misunderstood” Sonny will be absolved.

#4 Morgan was such a loathsome petulant brat many are thrilled he’s dead.

I would go with statement #4.

I wouldn’t agree. I can’t even fathom how someone as obviously loving as Morgan can be considered a brat. He had a chemical imbalance. And insecurities. But he was so passionate and earnest…one of the deepest characters on the show. Perfectly imperfect.

Great post.

Dear Rebecca:

I now agree with you. Morgan ended up breaking my heart in the long run. Yes, I have been quite critical of him but my heart bled for him as he lost his way while trying to do everything right. Ava tampered with his meds leading to his imbalance which in turn, led him to self medicate through alcohol.
In a manic state he went back to college and held himself up to impossible to meet standards. His downward spiral which proceeded his alleged death was heartbreaking to say the least. And yes, Laura Wright just about killed me with her listening to her last desperate message of love and support to her baby boy on his cell phone–a message he never heard.
Bec, thank you for always maintaining a consistent code of ethics when speaking about this fictional universe. I owe you a HUGE belated apology for telling you that you took it all too seriously. Now, after reading the comments pertaining to the Trump scandal, I see that there is some kind of cross over between reality and fiction and no matter what, you have always maintained your integrity and asserted the courage of your convictions. And you always took my unfair admonishments so well and with a grain of salt.
I am going to have to take a break from commenting here for awhile. This whole election has left me incredibly disheartened and I cannot associate with people who are Trump supporters. Yes, I take it personally and I never have done so with previous presidential elections.
I will be back in time but I will use a different name. Harry is not my real name after all, and I am sure you will recognize me by my tone of voice and sense of humor (which I hope will be restored).
As Beethoven said on his death bed,”The comedy is over.” Well, at least for now.

Harry !
Have a good rest !
Give a Hi when you return!..

(( I’M WITH HER ))

Hi Melissa…this will probably fall under the wrong reply but I wanted to comment regarding your comment on Morgan and his bipolar. IF they recast (which personally I hope they do waaaay down the line…if the show’s still on, though I must admit the actor has big shoes to fill because I thought Bryan was phenomenal and he IS Morgan) I don’t think they’d drop the bipolar (unless you meant just not focus on it). As most of us know Maurice Bernard (Sonny) is bipolar in real life and it was important to him that they get this story right…he consulted. So BP would still be a part of Morgan’s life, however they’d get him back on his meds and living a stable life (emotionally) like Sonny. I thought it realistic that we went thru a lot of drama with Morgan because they didn’t know he had it, he fought it, he got help, he was sabotaged by Ava. They couldn’t just present him as if he never had it…I also think having father/son share this condition leaves the door open for realistic storytelling. With that said, they never focus on illness too long. Alexis had lung cancer which doesn’t have a high cure rate yet it’s never brought up…she’s had no health scares or issues since. We’ve gone through a few stories when Sonny gets manic or severely depressed…actually this might cause his own bipolar to take him in a downward spiral. In real life, the kind of devastation he’s feeling now would probably do so…though I’m not sure they’ll go there because it seems like they’re gearing up Sonny vs Julian again…we shall see.

I hated Morgan for awhile, but ended uo liking him. Bryan Craig is amazing! That said, I would keep him dead too, but find a way for Sonny and Carly to work, tired of the back and forth!

I don’t care for Sonny & Carly.. they bore me, they are lackluster..
I want Sonny and Ava together.. never a dull moment .

Morgan is a trueblood Corinthos, a strong key character and Will be recast. Count on it.

Jason needs to be who and what he is, Stone Cold.
The swissy blah Jason is a horribly dull character, not good.

GH has no villians.. Two Crime Lords are Not villains they are career crime lords doing what crime lords do, is all.
GGH need a hardcore nasty villain as Valentin was supposed to be whom turned out to be a cupcake ..

One more comment, Scoma60..,I’d say from the reaction on this site there are more that are sad to see the actor/ character go. Just an observation. I don’t think so many would be emotionally moved by the story if Morgan wasn’t a popular character.

Mogran, was in fact, a popular character… the Corinthos’ clan… is DOA… like a fish out of water.

it’s more than an observation… Kristina added to… when she came back

I will never get the appeal of Chad Duell.

DZ’ Dante… i’m so pleased he’s spotlighting… nevertheless… he’s more police than a Corinthos

so it’s … what ? possibly Nelle… and Avery ?

there’s not much on the balance sheet to ring up for drama. ugh… gosh darned it ?

I do not believe Carly and Sonny ring true… as a so in love coupling… never thought any thing so less from the beginning

so… if this made BC’ Morgan stand out… so be it… it was the best thing going… for a long while… when he was with Ava… BOMB… why is Bryan Craig so popular on twitter and the internet…

GH lost a great character

so… no matter how LW spoke outright… he’s young he’s got to stretch his wings… this was no place to nest

blah blah blah… i’ll be watching with fervor at the outcome of… what’s left of the Corinthos

when all the posts… LOVE Maura West reactions… and it’s the best part

therein… all the proof positive just how much he carried this show

I would go with statement #3. And you’re being way too kind by using the word “whitewashes.” It’s a downright travesty that GH still continues to shove Sonny down the throats of viewers, allowing him to commit crimes, including murder, and getting away with it every time. There is absolutely no moral center with this show, and that’s too bad…

As fans we are also grieving the loss of Morgan n Bryan Craig leaving. The outstanding acting being performed by everyone has made this so real to us all. Ty for your hard work n effort to all the cast members for making us part of the GH family through the dynamic performances that are taking place. You are all on “fire”

Wow, what a fantastic interview, Michael! Thanks to both of you for taking the time to really dig in. I love hearing the process actors go through to deliver the really tough stuff. Laura is killing her scenes, as are the rest of the actors. Such a sad storyline, and I’m sad to see Bryan leave the show, but the performances from everyone are just stunning.

Exactly my feelings! Michael Fairman does the best interviews. This one with Laura Wright is a real winner in seeing the daily process of how an episode gets made from the actor’s, writers’ & even producers’ points of view on a daily basis. It really is a collaboration. Also, love her attitude about being happy to see other people get really rich material to play. That’s why they’re all there, right?

Without a doubt Michael, your best interview ever! Laura was so informative of the process. We fans have marveled this past week on how deep she went with Morgan’s death but to hear her inside commentary was just great. She and Maura might be competing against one another at next years Emmys! Laura may get the nudge since she was Morgan’s mother and will go deeper. If she does find out Ava switched Morgan’s meds, OMG, the studio will not be able to contain the eruption from Carly!

I agree that if Carly learns Ava switched Morgan’s meds…maybe her desire for revenge will enlighten her as to Sonny’ s original motives and seething emotions where she can open a door back to Sonny. It’s always easier when you’re not on the emotional hooks…but once you are EVERYTHING is different! And if it turns out to be Paul or anyone else for that matter, Carly and Sonny will mend…they have to eventually because they are really so much alike.

Trivette…I think you are right that there can be a way back for Carly and Sonny if the bomb didn’t originate with Sonny. On the other hand, he and/or Julian still put these kind of “accidents” in motion, directly or indirectly. I wonder if this could change Carly and Sonny this time because accidents happen too often in their family. And I think Griffin taking with Sonny in the chapel had an affect on him.

You are right Tivette, right now Carly only feels for her loss and doesnt understand why it happened and who was behind it. Sonny and Carly had sex the other day, when that happened, it was a highlight for them only in the soap world to be a cue for the beginning of their downfall. This opens up Nelle to seduce Sonny and Carly to hook up with someone else. Carly and Sonny will always end up back together. They will mend fences when Morgan reappears!

I live how Maurice and Laura our bringing it and how other characters involved. Super happy Jason in story bc makes more real. Billy amazing playing Jason putting his feelings aside to help those around him

I would really like to see that someone else placed the bomb in Julian’s car and not Sonny since he did call the hit off after talking to Griffin.
The actors and actresses have all done an excellent job with this storyline. It has been heartbreaking watching each family member and friend find out and react to Morgan’s death. And Bryan Craig did an awesome portrayal of Morgan going downhill little by little after Ava switched his meds.
Great job GH writers and cast!

Let’s keep dead as being dead. Soap ffans, are not stupid.

GREAT INTERVIEW AND FABULOUS ACTRESS…..SUPER PERFORMANCES…TWO EMMYS…CARLY AND AVA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wonderful interview, Michael! Laura Wright is one of my favorite soap opera actresses. Her scenes have been gut wrenching this week. Everyone on GH has been on their “A” game — LW, MB, DZ, CD, BC, and MW. It has hit me emotionally. Loving the drama! As a sidetone, I’m so thankful for Elizabeth Korte’s input on the scene where Sonny and Carly found out Morgan was expelled. It made a huge difference in the lead up to Morgan’s demise and the aftermath. Also thankful for Laura Wright’s input to her scenes. Very good choices! I’m happy to see the cast get to shine. And kudos to the writers. It has all been stellar.

As I have missed nearly two months of GH due to no cable I have read stories n looked at pics that make me feel like I’m there with them. That being said I love Maurice Laura n Bryan for all the hard work they do !!!! Not to mention the afore mentioned n billy miller r the reason I watched GH in the first place !!! Let Morgan stay dead it makes for a more vivid story !!! Congrats all four actors deserve an Emmy for sure !!! Love u guys !

I have to say Laura is wonderful!! Great interview, thank you! I have to also comment about Dominic (Dante). I was never a huge fan but now, im without words ! He was the best of them all ! Very real reaction and emotions. I would love for Dante to become more of a lead character. Let him interac more with Carly, Sam, Liz! Remove him from Lulu and Maxie. He should be lead actor now especially since we lost Patrick and Nickolas. Billy Miller is not lead material on GH (he is good though but he is just miscast as Jason)

I would rather they not recast and maybe even find enough of the body to run tests on and find no meds. Then their would be a story to find out about the switch and the turmoil of finding out Ava did it. Dante did a great job and all of Carly’s scenes have been very believable.

Unless Bryan were to return , I say let this death be final for a change ! I hate that he left , he has come so far in his acting skills ! I wish him with everything in his life ❤️

Awesome, just awesome from all of the actors……

Laura Wright is one of the best on daytime. I love her. Her performances lately have been spectacular.

Certainly one the the First Ladies of the genre. Even if there were 15 or soaps airing like back in the day, Ms Write would still be among the handull that ever graced our day time veiwing

GH actressess are going to be battleling each other come Emmy time, there’s finola who had her Emmy moment early on this year, then came nancy lee grahm and now Mara west and Laura wright, maybe the emmys should start giving out Emmy for best ensemble.

How could I forget genie Francis!

Give Genie a comparable storyline–please! Then her name will be in contention for best actress–AT LONG LAST.

I agree. GH has an abundance of top notch actresses who bring their A game no matter the storyline. As a character I don’t like Carly but Laura Wright is so phenomenal in the part that I still enjoy watching her.

Thank you so much for the interview! I positively love watching Laura on GH! I am so happy she is back on the front burner. I love her investment in Carly and being as real as possible for we viewers. Whatever scene she is in, my eyes go right to her as she has this terrific screen presence and I know I will be entertained. I really enjoy Carly and Sonny together along with their dysfunctional anything- but-Bunch type family. As Sonny says, they have a “deep” love. I rooting for them to find their way back to each other after some road blocks along the way of course.

As for Morgan, I hope for an eventual recast further down the road.

I

“…LAURA:  Fans are going to go on this very emotional tragic journey with the Corinthos family. ”

woah

REAL’y

it’s over with; they can milk this for all it’s worth… no one left… has the caliber and / or draw that Bryan Craig dealt

Laura is so great as Carly all the carlys have been great too. I loved laure on guiding light too as Cassie Layne aka Shaydee Layne LOL

One of the biggest problems with Soaps is the fake death. In any drama especially the genre of daytime soap opera the audience has to extend its belief system it’s the good of the experience go with outragous storytelling at times. But we go with it.

But when one tell stories long-term stories that lives over a month and sometimes over years what a character dies the audience would be so invested in it it would be devastated by a characters passing.

Now The riders don’t really “the war of the characters anymore”. The audience on some level you cheated.

Morgan will be back! But how many of us will be here to greet the new morgon!

Great interview. Laura is a class act all around. Great actress who for the past few years has been underused and misused. Finally glad to see her get some good writing to work with. She does deserve another Emmy.

Hoping that S&C do survive this. Going the divorce route is the expected. They should do the unexpected and actually have them work their way back to each other by finding out Sonny wasn’t responsible for the bomb and having their undying love erupt again out of some crisis or another which will prove that. It would be great story which again could give these talented actors a story to show what they can do .

Keep Morgan dead! Death has become meaningless on soaps, and it cheapens the story and hurts the genre.

agreed 100%!

Oh, and I love Laura Wright’s Carly. LOL

I love the show i have been whaching for fourty yrs.thay need to keep morgan gone. he was a great actor but thay need to keep him gone.

@Melissa.
I agree with you, Melissa. I have more or less said to expect what you just said.
Morgan will re-enter the stage with a new face and poof!!!! Bipolar disorder gone.
Yes, many will refute this…it is a mental disease, so no cure….just ‘contained’ with drugs.
But, this is a soap.

Shout out to Laura: impressive!!

I gotta little behind, but finally read MF interview with Laura. What a lady…very good interview. And was she ever superb when hearing about Morgan…like the b/w Fluke story when she played Luke’s mother. Even I cried for her a little. Awful thing to happen to Morgan (maybe), and Carly and Sonny. She gav hints that things are going to happen because of the loss of Morgan. Watch out Ava, and beware Nelle.

I detest Nell, Rose. This is my third time posting this opinion…LOL..too lazy to scroll up but I’m not even sure if it’s on this page or another…but I feel like she’s going to try and seduce Sonny in his time of need…and…if she turns out to be Carly’s daughter it’ll be history repeating itsel when Carly slept with Tony. Either way…I “feel” her intrusiveness.

Rebecca1…Oh I remember it well when Carly came to town. I guess it’s another story where it pays to be bad in Port Charles, because if you follow Carly’s history she has always gotten what she wants, no matter the damage. Especially AJ and Michael. It’s funny in a way how some of us are picking up a bad vibe about Nelle. Will have to see how this plays out, but it shows you how good and subtle the actress is. Am I allowed to say actress anymore?

LOL Rose…you’re allowed but pretty soon people will be looking up the meaning in the dictionary as it fades from common use. What really bothers me is the expression, “gone missing.”

As for Nell…I think they’ve made it pretty obvious to the viewers that she’s scheming…scamming…infiltrating…with her secret phone calls, looks when characters walk away, muttering to herself, etc. It’s Carly et al that don’t know yet. If she really is the kidney donor, she might be Carly’s daughter…if not…maybe she’s not even a donor but knows someone in the hospital who tampered with the results. I really have no desire to see her…you know me..defender of all. This character is different. Just can’t stand her. Maybe they’ll surprise me and I’ll wind up taking to her.

Looking forward to “Outlanders”.

Do you watch “Younger?” Love it! It takes place in the city (Manhattan) and it’s about a 40-year-old passing for her 20s to get a job…which she does complete with 20-something boyfriend, friends, etc. because they all believe her. Too much to go into here but check it out if you can.

Rebecca…it’s not that I dislike Nelle to the degree you do… I do find it interesting how she is connecting the dots with all of the Port Charles players. That being said though, I really don’t trust her. And they really set us up a possible collision today with Nelle and Sonny. Or else the writers want us to think that. I was even concerned “how close” Carly and Jason were getting. Please “no” to that one.

I hadn’t even heard of “Younger.” Googled it for a summary. Will look for it because the publishing industry also interests me. Am looking forward to “Outlander.” Do like “Lucifer” but mostly tv pickings are slim for me this year. And I don’t want to get into the Netflx, etc. worlds because I don’t want to watch too much tv.

Definitely check out “Younger!” It’s soooo good! I have watched “Lucifer” and I really enjoy it when I see it. But it’s not a must-see for me…though he’s quite the looker/charmer! I’ve got quite a few shows I love including the two I mentioned…

Lol…these are my violent shows…all incredible…Ray Donovan, Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, Empire, Animal Kingdom ( not about animals…a really excellent show with Ellen Barkin), How To Get Away With Murder, Scandal

Hallmark Show…Chesapeake Shores with Diane Lane and Treat Williams…beautiful visually and great escapism as in family drama/romance…

The Affair…romance, betrayal, murder whodunnit

Medical show…The Night Shift, Chicago Med

Comedy…Black-ish, Modern Family and Brain Dead which ran for just 12 episodes and was one of the most disgusting/brilliant shows ever! Stumbled upon it by accident…with Tony Shalhoub and Danny Pino…political satire with brain-eating ants and exploding heads. LOL…the exploding heads were the disgusting part. But!!! The premise of the show, the parody on politics, the subtle humor…plus romance…it was soooo innovative, on point and one of THE funniest yet clever shows I’ve ever watched.

Whew! That’s alotta TV! (And I’m sure I left some out!) My excuse is I watch OnDemand and I binge watch. Catch up on shows I never watched like Weeds with Mary Louise Parker which is also really good. Binging the entire series in the last few weeks and I love it too.

OnDemand…the best/worst thing to happen! 😉

Rebecca… Thoughts on Nelle…she has been a bit of a mystery since she arrived Port Charles. I think she came with an agenda based on Heaven knows what info and baggage. But I don’t think she’s inherently bad, not like Ava, who I would miss if she wasn’t around mainly because of Maura. I also think Nelle is starting to get “confused” about her “mission.” Some of the better parts of PC are starting to make her think twice…sometimes you see it in her face…loyalty/mourning even if it’s coming from Sonny and Carly and the rest of the Corinthos clan, the niceness of Michael. And now we have Jax (Yea!) back in the mix who I’m sure is part of all of this. So I’m going to give her the benefit of the doubt as her story reveals itself.

I think that the story could be told in about a year that Morgan is not dead, but it can not be written like the Jason story was…yawn! boring! long! I don’t want to see Morgan spying on friends and family for weeks, if he is going to come back just come back and let the town all deal with it at the same time. Maybe show up at a Dillion Kiki wedding!!1

This is yet another great performance by a female character in 2016. It seems there have been an embarrassment of riches this year (Laura Wright, Heather Tom, Rena Sofer). LW is amazing.

Laura Wright shines with this type of storytelling. Her final scenes smashing Morgan’s picture on the ground and yelling at Sonny was far more gut wrenching than the typical “beating up on him” good call LW!
As I’ve said before, I really hope GH leaves this character dead as it would cheapen this whole storyline.
Would it have been better to have him die of bipolar reasons? Like he commits suicide? I don’t think so …. I don’t think the audience need to see that really. IT happens, yes, but plenty of bipolar people live lives …. this is a SOAP and they needed to go with storytelling and I think having Sonny plant the bomb that killed his own son is good for “soap storytelling.” There is still a fine line between real life and reel life on a soap and I think this route was a better way to go IMHO.

so good soap can’t wait to see more of carly and the corintos family going to miss morgan a lot hope that eva get’s caught and hope that that sonny is not responsible

I wish I cared that Morgan is dead but, I don’t care that that he is dead. I can’t believe that more people are upset about Morgan being dead then Nikolas. I just have a hard feeling bad for Sonny, Because of his line of work.

Agree, but Ava is to blame not Sonny. Sonny is just doing what mobsters do and frankly Julian and his evil sister should pay.

Definitely agree!

Carly’s has been lacing in meaty story of her own for quite awhile so it’s nice to see Laura Wright do what what she does best. She looked to be coasting during that awfully unprepared kidney story. As for Sonny and Carly The couple they needed a shake up amd perhaps and opening for Sonny to get back with Brenda. I love when characters come back from the dead, as it makes for compelling drama but id like to see Morgan stay dead for a long while. Sonny should eventually be
Exonerated while Morgan is still thought dead with too much damage already done to his family to fix things. Also it’s time for Sonny’s exit from the mob story and this is the proper way to begin it.

The day Carly found out about Morgan’s death was the best day for GH in a very long time–precisely because it was underplayed. Wish TPTB could maintain that each day. What a different show that would be!

PS Note to Harry–I will miss you, but I’m with you re the election. I, too, have election anxiety. And find it very, very said that this election has become a referendum on women and the treatment of women. I’m with Michelle Obama, who said in her landmark speech this week, that she has been “shaken to the core.”

Laura W. Has been doing amazing acting. She has me in tears. Maura W. and Dom Z. also stand out. Even Maurice has been giving his all. I read he does not want the role of Morgan to be recasted. He was close with Bryan C. This is the first time inawhile that GH has been holding my interest and mainly it is because of the fine acting.

No one on this show ever learns their lesson. Sonny wash rinse and repeat. Carly the same. I ff through all the Corintious. plain and simple. Now that Michael has returned to his brain dead family, him also. Everyone feels guilty except the one who ordered it ? Morgan broke the law ,stole a car and blew up. who cares ? not me. No one cared when he switched Michaels pills, Kiki turns my stomach, was she going to be his mother no matter what.? The only one at fault for Morgan being in that car is Morgan. The Corintious show doesn’t intrest me, its never the father and mother of the years fault.

Hi I’m a fairly new viewer of GH (watching for a few years) ever since they canceled GL, ATWT, and AMC..
Anyway I love the show, but don’t know all the backstories. My comment is: please let Ava get caught ! She is responsible for Morgan’s death. She is finally growing a conscience ( maybe!!) and hopefully she will unravel and let something slip.. Great Performance by Maura West., as always,
I remember she won a daytime emmy for ATWT ! She deserves another ,as does Laura Wright, and other cast members as well!
I ‘ve missed a few episodes and haven’t seen Nell do anything sneaky yet, but wonder what’s up with her? Was hoping she’d catch Ava today with the pills in hand, but knew that wouldn’t happen!
I don’t see her with Sonny tho!. She’s too young, and there
doesn’t seem to be any chemistry.

Laura finally showed her acting chops, she is so good and enjoyable to watch. As for Morgan, I hope they recast this role because this character really brings balance to Sonny’s family.

Nancy Lee Grahn’s Star-Studded ALS Fundraiser Reveals “I’ll Be There” Video Featuring Soap Opera Notables

Talk about your impressive line-up! It’s a soap fans dream and for a great cause. General Hospital’s Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis) is prepping her one-night only ALS fundraiser which will feature many of her friends and co-stars.

The benefit is set for May 4th in Glendale, California. Slated to participate are Genie Francis, Jane Elliot, Peter Bergman, Maurice Benard, Eileen Davidson, Thorsten Kaye, Michelle Stafford, Stephen Nichols, Rena Sofer, Jason Thompson, Kelly Monaco, Melissa Claire Egan, Maura West, Kristina Wagner, Gregory Harrison, Trevor St. John, Kate Mansi, Kirsten Storms, Cynthia Watros, and many others.

On Wednesday, Grahn took to her social media and released an “I’ll be there” video shout-out featuring, Monaco, Elliot, Bergman, Bernard, West, Harrison, St. John and more. In a touching and important moment in the new video, Michelle Strogny, who is battling ALS, is featured.

Photo: ABC

Previously, in speaking with Soap Opera Digest on the impetus of the event, Grahn recalled, “I was actually doing Zoom events during Covid and I met this woman that I just fell in love with, Michelle Strojny. At the time, Michelle had been living with ALS for four years. Now, it’s five years. She is a mom of a teenage son, she has the most wonderful husband, and she has been dealing with this [disease] for quite a while. And obviously, there isn’t a cure yet. It’s not survivable yet. But as she says, it’s not incurable. Nothing is; it’s underfunded. But anyway, I just really dug this woman. She is so grounded and filled with grace, and she spends all of her time working to raise money for the cause. We did a fundraiser for her last year and then I thought, ‘You know what? The soaps don’t ever get together to do something for charity.’ Collectively, we have this amazing community and we don’t collectively use it for a good cause, and I think it’s such an easy thing for us to do and we could potentially really make a difference.”

As GH viewers know, Gregory Harrison is playing the character of Gregory Chase, who is also battling ALS in a touching storyline that is currently playing out shedding a light on this disease.

For information on Nancy’s event, including the stars who are s scheduled to participate click here. To purchase tickets to the event click here.

Check out the video featuring Nancy’s friends and co-stars below.  Now let us know, your thought son the line-up for the benefit and helping raise awareness and funds for ALS research via the comment section.

‘General Hospital’ Writer Shannon Peace Let Go, and Shares on Sprina: “One of My Only Regrets is to Not Have the Opportunity to Develop That ‘Ship’ Further”

As General Hospital’s new head writing team of Elizabeth Korte and Patrick Mulcahy gets off the ground and running, there are still changes a foot on the writing team.

Now comes word via breakdown writer Shannon Peace that she is no longer on contract with the long-running ABC soap heading into its 61st season. Peace shared a heartfelt message on her Instagram, thanking the fans, and the show for the opportunity and the importance of diversity in the writers room.

Peace began, “After almost 3 years on staff and 106 episodes penned, I am no longer on contract with General Hospital. Writing for this country’s longest running television serial drama has been an education of epic proportions; I will forever be grateful that I earned my WGA card on a daytime fixture that holds memories for so many.” (Peace pictured below with GH EP Frank Valentini and script writer, Charlotte Gibson from about ten months ago).

Shannon added “Even more importantly, as the sole Black breakdown writer (and only POC in the writers room) during my tenure, I pushed for vital interactions and discussions that prioritized inclusion, visibility, and representation”

The writer pointed to the example of vital interaction when in story, “Stella and Portia’s frank July 2022 conversation about the role race played in Esme’s framing of Trina is just one example of the impact I’m gratified to have had.”

Acknowledging former GH co-head writers was also part of Peace’s farewell expressing, “Appreciation to my former bosses, Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor – not only taking a chance on me, but for valuing my opinion and championing my voice.”

Many GH fans know that Peace was key to the development of the love story between Trina Robinson and Spencer Cassadine as played by Tabyana Ali and Nicholas Chavez. Shannon gave a special shout-out to ‘Sprina’ fans, “I also want to thank fans who were supportive of my work, especially the recognition of my love for ‘Sprina’. One of my only regrets is not having to develop that ‘ship’ further.”

She concludes her statement with,”In the aftermath of a historic writer’s strike that shed new light on the troubling ways writers are regarded in daytime, my sincere hope is that General Hospital recommits to valuing staff writer efforts and input, with a more intentional focus on diverse viewpoints — and thrives for another 60 years.”

Accompanying her post, Shannon added, “Thank you all for the love and support these last few years. I hope GH fans get all they hope for and more!”

So, what do you think about GH not renewing Shannon’s contract? Will there be more continued changes afoot? What do you think is the future of ‘Sprina’ anyway at this point as viewers wait to see if Nicholas Chavez officially returns to the show?  Comment below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Learns Britt Died and Tells Anna He Has Been Working For Cates Since November 2021

On the Tuesday, March 26th of General Hospital, Anna (Finola Hughes) and the viewers learn about where Jason (Steve Burton) has been for over two and half years. However, Jason gets some news of his own.

Anna is visiting Jason at the PCPD interrogation room. She asks him if he shot Dante (Dominic Zamprogna), which he flatly denies. Anna believes him, but she tells Jason it doesn’t matter, because video footage shows him on the roof at the time of the shooting

When talk turns to Jason not willing to speak without his lawyer present, Anna can’t grasp why Jason would instead spend an hour alone talking with John Cates (Adam J. Harrington).

Photo: ABC

It is then that Anna brings up that John went by “Jagger” and that the two of them knew each other in high school. Jason doesn’t recall much of his time in high school following his brain injury, but then he gets furious realizing John knew about “Jason’s” past. That is when Jason slams the table and tells Anna, “I’ve been working for John Cates since November 2021.”

Next, Jason explains further that he has been working as an informant for the FBI. Anna wants to know how this came about and he tells her that after the tunnel collapsed, and he couldn’t make it to Britt (Kelly Thiebaud)… all of a sudden he sees Anna’s face drop.  Anna is the first person to tell him that Britt died and was murdered. She tells Jason the killer is in custody, but he continues to be shocked, overwhelmed with tears welling up in his eyes. Realizing he has to pivot to save his life, Jason continues telling Anna how he wound up working with John.

Jason explains that after the tunnel collapse in Greece, FBI agents grabbed him and placed him under arrest and took him to Quantico where he met John. At Quantico, John played a recording of RICO violations and offered Jason a deal if he agreed to be an informant against Pikeman, the illegal arms dealer.

Anna hears from Jason that he thinks Pikeman is selling illegal arms to anyone flagged by the NSA but has ties to the WSB which they needed a civilian to infiltrate their organization as a military soldier, a mercenary.

Jason tells Anna he was a part of the team brought into eliminate Sonny (Maurice Benard). Every time an attempt was made on Sonny’s life over the last two years, a different team was sent to do the job. Anna gets furious when she learns that John told Jason his job was to kill Sonny and she was with John at the warehouse that night. Jason ensured the sniper missed Sonny and left the rifle behind. However, they were supposed to meet an extraction team. Before he was shot, Dante saw it was Jason on the roof and when he turned around with his hands over his head, Dante was shot by the other guy. Jason says if Dante dies, he’ll be charged with capital murder and then will be useless to the FBI.

Photo: ABC

Meanwhile, John visits Bobbie’s and runs into Carly (Laura Wright). She learns Jason is in custody and is going to head to the PCPD. Before she does, Carly has some words with Cates when she learns not only does John have a vendetta against Sonny, but Jason too.  Carly tells John he should recuse himself from the case.

So, what did you think about the moment when Jason learned Britt died? What do you think of Jason’s return storyline thus far and what we learned about Jagger/Jason and more? Comment below. But first, check out a moment from today’s GH with Jason and Anna.
