GH's Matt Cohen Debuts Tonight On Season 2 Opener CRIMINAL MINDS: BEYOND BORDERS!

If you catch General Hospital on Wednesday, or the season 2 premiere of CBS’ drama, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders you are going to get a double dose of the ever-popular, and talented actor, Matt Cohen.

While Griffin is in major trouble at the hands of Olivia Jerome (Tonja Walker) in Port Charles, Cohen’s new role on on Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders looks just as enticing too!  Cohen will play Ryan, Jack’s (Gary Sinise) son on the series.

In an interview with TV Line , “Beyond Borders” showrunner Erica Messer filled us in on Matt’s new character and the new season relating:“Season 2 is a bit like what our back 9 would have been, if we had had a full 22 (episodes for Season 1], so I think we’ve earned the right to have our audience understand who our heroes are a bit more. Specifically with Jack, we go home with him a lot more this season, and we even introduce his son Ryan, played by Matt Cohen. Ryan is new to the FBI and he’s following in his dad’s footsteps, and that can be a little hard because Jack Garrett casts a big shadow. So we’re playing the family drama within that. Having an actual family member who’s in the field with us a little reveals a different side of Jack, as a literal father figure.”

As to Cohen’s status with the series, while also appearing on GH, Messer answered: “We introduce him with Sherry and the other kids, in the first episode, to show Jack as this family man who goes to church and all that good stuff. By the seventh episode, that introduction of Ryan that seemed like, ‘Oh, this is just background for Jack’s life’ becomes a part of the story. And by the time we hit the end of the season, he becomes a major part of the story. It’s taking the idea of his family and really integrating it with his work, in a way that we hadn’t done before, but in a way that plenty of shows had done. Criminal Minds hadn’t played this thing of, ‘There’s a team member who has another family member within the Bureau,’ so it was nice to do something that we hadn’t been done.”

So, excited for your double dose of Matt Cohen today?  Comment below!

Fantastico!!!! Love “Criminal Minds”. Now, I’ll love it even more. I could stare at Matt’s face, non-stop.

I haven’t watched Criminal Minds for several years…too graphic, sick and violent for my tastes. But I did know that Thomas Gibson (Hotch), the actor playing their main FBI guy, had been fired last year for “creative” differences with the producer or director. Wonder if Matt is part of helping to fill this void.

On the one hand, good for Matt/Griffin getting a prime time role. On the other, wish it wasn’t this show, and I don’t want him to leave GH like Justin Hartley left Y&R. And just when they were giving Griffin something interesting to do.

matts not on criminal mind, he’s on the spin off, just so you know.

Thanks Aria…no matter what the name and location probably still the same storytype.

Real concern is I don’t want to lose Matt at GH. Love these last scenes with Griffin, Anna, Olivia, and “oh yes” creatively putting Duke/ Ian Buchanan back into the mix.

Interesting there are three “parentship” stories at one time that can intersect, and which Griffin can be a part…Charlotte, Nelle ( possible confident interest), and his own.

I so agree with you Rose about Criminal Minds, way to graphic, sick and violent.
I also wish Matt was guest starring on another show…I love Matt as Griffin on GH.

Hey, Rose,
“Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders” isn’t as graphic as the regular “Criminal Minds”.
I watched all episodes last year. I, actually, thought it was off the air….glad it’s not.
Great show, with sort of an internationally, mildly political flavor.

Celia…if it’s a milder version, and Matt is in a few episodes I may take a peak. Plus, I do usually like Gary Sinise. But mostly I don’t consider the premise of the Criminal franchise as entertaining. But I’ve also mentioned to Rebecca further on this thread that I can sometimes break my own rule. ???

I have a technique for too graphic shows, Rose. I turn my head just in the nick of time! Whiplash abounds! 😉

I watch Chicago Med, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, The Vampire Diaries, The Originals…whenever any of these shows go for the gore I whoosh around…then spin back! LOL. It works!

Criminal Minds, though I haven’t watched it in years, is a very well-done show. It goes into the psychoanalysis of the perp so it’s got a bit more going for it than just violence for the sake of.

I remember Night of the Living Dead. Saw the original. Now THAT freaked me out!

I remember a seeing Night Of the Living Dead as well…almost my seat in the theatre. That show, along with The Exorcist, freaked (is that dating us?) me out.

I guess I’ve adopted my own purist feelings about shows I have to turn-my-head or ff during certain scenes …if Im have to do this too often I won’t watch it at all? This really happened for me with Game Of Thrones. I don’t want to “reward” the writers/etc for this kind of stuff if they overdo it and to see how gross or “sexual” they can get. Plus, since I’m so visual, don’t want to feed my mind these kind of images. Probably one of the reasons I like PBS/Masterpiece for the story value. And I don’t like too much apocalyptic and zombies images like Walking Dead.

Yet at the same time several of my favorite movies are Kill Bill/ Kill Bill 2/ and Buce Lee’s Enter the Dragon. Go figure. So I admit I’m not consistent.

As far as Criminal Minds, I used to watch it because it was going for more than violence for violence sake. But I finally gave up…the sick part of the baddies was just too much for me.

Oh, and by the way, I think Thomas Gibson was fired for his alleged bad temper…and that he kicked the writer during their disagreement!

I think your right. I was just trying to be more diplomatic. Maybe the intensity and subject of the show got to him because I read he was really invested in it. But it’s always been hard for me to see Thomas in this role after Dharma and Greg. I really liked this show.

I like Gary myself, from CSI: Ny.
Speaking of those other movies you mentioned, I can only watch so much…with my husband. I am like a kid…I’ll have nightmares. LOL.
Surprisingly, THE EXORCIST did not scare me as much as NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD.
I can’t even watch DRACULA movies without being scared.
CRIMINAL MINDS has not been too bad, this season, with the new cast. Try to watch BORDERS, you may like it.

naaaaa…not dating yourself. well, maybe…if you saw the films in the theatre! LOL…they have been run on TV for years after their movie theatre runs! (I saw Night of the Living Dead on TV…never saw The Exorcist!)

I know what you mean about being visual and having the images remain in your head. I’m very much like that. To a horrible degree. When something effects me I can’t get the image out of my mind. But, for me, there are some shows worth the, hahahha…nect twist. Really, I love each show I mentioned and I have to turn away at some…or several scenes…on each show. With that said. GOT sickened me when that psycho Ramsey tortured and castrated Theon and raped his “wife.” Theo’s torture, humiliation and castration…ugh…I had to keep telling myself it was fiction because it so deeply effected me. Couldn’t get the “feeling”…the angusih/repulsion/sadness/despair out of my mind for quite a while. Horrific scens; terrific acting.

I wouldn’t call that “entertainment” more like “intense-a-tainment!” Seriously, it was horrendous. The others I don’t find so excruciating…just can’t stomach the scenes. But the stories, characters, etc are riveting on some of the shows so I just adjust. What I can’t watch are medical stories where people have fatal illness. That’s where I draw the line. Way too scary/depressing!

As for Thomas, no need for diplomacy. It was all over the entertainment news. Not like you’re spreading gossip or untruths…

Did you ever check out YOUNGER? Don’t remember if you said. It’s sooooo good! Please do!

So? will he still be with GH ??
If not, will Anna misfire and kill him off lol
Looking forward to seeing him on CMB ..

according to an article on this site 8/27/16 matt is recurring on criminal minds beyond borders and he is not leaving gh……………….

matts so delicious, i’ve been so happy ever since he joined GH, i was familiar w/ him on the other shows he had done on primetime, so not surprise he’s still doing that, but glad he’s part of the GH family because GH is my fave show, and he’s definitely one of the best looking and talented guys they’ve ever had on the show, plus it must be only me, but to me he looks more like Robert son then Dukes, theres this early pic of tristan rogers and i swear they could pass as father and son. oh well, hope somehow if its done right he ends up being anna son..

I think he could pass for Duke, Robert or even Mac’s son!

Love Matt, good luck!

Love Matt. I’ll check out the show just to check on him! As others, I hope, now that he’s being featured and FINALLY able to show his talent and range on GH, that this new gig doesn’t diminish his GH role. He was kinda sleep-walking through it…priest/doctor…gentle, mellow…nice. But now he seems to be gaining momentum in story.

Great looking, great actor!

More of the Story on ‘General Hospital’ Star Josh Kelly’s Latest Film Role in ‘The Workout’

We had previously shared that General Hospital’s Josh Kelly was taking three weeks away from his role of Cody Bell to a shoot a role in an upcoming movie entitled The Workout.

Josh originally revealed his role in the film during an episode of GH castmates, Steve Burton (Jason) and Bradford Anderson’s (Spinelli) podcast.

Now Deadline has filled in some of the blanks, and shared some intriguing intel on the premise of the film and its back-story.  The film stars Kelly along with Peter Jae, and UFC Fighter, Ashlee Evans-Smith. Other cast members include The Bay’s Kristos Andrews.

In The Workout, two army rangers set out to create a workout video, but their plans are abruptly halted when a mob hit interrupts their filming. Tragically, one of the rangers loses his wife in the attack, sending him on a relentless mission to take down the mob and anyone who stands in his way.

The film from James Cullen Bressack, almost did not get financed.  Apparently, ten days before his birthday, Bressack made a post on Instagram about the feature and production, casting, and financing came from the post … illustrating the power of social media. After the post gained traction, a producer provided financing and actors expressed interest in joining the project, leading to a quick production.

In a statement, Bressack shared, “As artists a painter paints, a musician makes music, a writer writes, but as filmmakers we have to ask permission to create. It’s time to change that narrative. This film spawned from a necessity to create. We create. We tell stories. We play pretend. I’m excited to take this journey. This is the truest form of collaboration and a community of friends coming together to make something fun. While our industry has had a rough time recently with strikes and a possible strike looming in the future, it’s nice to remind ourselves why we got into film to begin with. To have fun telling stories.”

No word yet on when The Workout will be released.

So, looking forward to seeing this collaborative effort featuring GH’s Josh Kelly? Comment below.
