After all the murmurs, the rumors, and the buzz of Serial Scoop’s recent blind item where they indicated that: A former Daytime Emmy winner from a P&G soap opera that has since appeared in primetime, an ABC/Prospect Park soap, and, recently, a Hulu series was joining the cast of Days of our Lives, the soap site revealed the actor’s identity today.

Fan favorite Jordi Vilasuso (as many had guessed) has joined the NBC soap opera in a character that is described to have a connection with Galen Gering’s Rafe Hernandez!

Jordi has most recently appeared in the Hulu series South Beach, and won a Daytime Emmy while on Guiding Light in the role of Tony Santos.  He has appeared as Dr. Griffin Castillo in both the ABC and online versions of All My Children, and appeared in the primetime soap Fashion House.  There has been no official confirmation from Days of our Lives on this casting news, or even a first airdate.

What do you think of Jordi coming to DAYS?  Who will he play in Salem?  Share your thoughts below!

I’m not familiar with this actor, but if his character is supposed to have a connection to Rafe then I’m guessing a brother or cousin.

On Guiding Light he was paired with Michelle Bauer who was portrayed by Rebecca Budig now on GH..Bethany Joy Lenz who went on to play Hayley James on One Tree Hill..amongst others who portrayed the role..Tony Santos mama was one vicious Mob boss and that lifestyle led to his death on the show.

Jordi is Rafe’s brother Dario.

I thought the same thing, they will be brothers.

Are you guessing or do you know for sure that Dario is returning to Salem? I hope you are correct about the character being Dario. I enjoyed the character of Dario the last time around. His return to Salem would be a boost to the character of Rafe because Rafe’s life in Salem would be fuller!

I think the writers made a mistake by separating Rafe and Jordan. That was a good match. Rafe needed to move on from Sami. So bringing back Dario will be good for Rafe.

I am aware that A. Martinez has been brought to Salem as Rafe’s Dad. However since the character has not yet been introduced I am not touching that. But I do hope that story is very successful.

If Dario is being recast that would be great. I’d love to see Rafe have more family interactions in Salem.

I’m just making an educated guess.

I think he’ll play Rafe’s brother and Paul’s new love interest. He and Paul will meet at a Basic Black fashion show.

Yeah, 4ever, or in that infamous park or that 2 by 4 area called the Horton square

Good news, CeeCee… DAYS has been filming/taping on location! I’m sorry I don’t have the sources or links, but I do know they are reliable. I also saw an interview with Kristian Alfonso (Hope) who confirmed it’s true.

Like I’ve been saying…DAYS means business. They’re fighting hard!!!!!

@4ever.
That is good news. For once, I’d like to fix my eyes on some real background greenery and not the same park bench and foliage. LOL.

That sounds like a very interesting story line. I hope it goes the distance.

If the brother of Rafe that you are referring to is Dario, he is neither gay or bisexual. At least he wasn’t the first time around in Salem. I hope Days is through with the gay storyline. It helped the ratings to decline drastically. So they ought to leave that alone!!

By the way did you hear how The Bold and the Beautiful too a ratings hit during the week of the wedding of the transgender character? Time to wake up and smell the coffee! The LGBT stories are bad for ratings.

I beg to differ – the storyline between Will and Sonny was hardly a ratings killer, if anything it helped to draw in New viewers. Obviously, at the risk of sounding offensive, you just don’t want any storylines involving gay characters – but, this is 2015 this isn’t 1985 and times have changed.
Sonny may be off the canvas for the time being, but the character will return, but what the ultimate fate shall be between he and Will remains to be seen. Paul is also a gay character, would you like to see him go as well – it’s quite evident from your post that you are totally against anyone who is a tad off the beaten trail character-wise.

It is a fact that during the weeks when the gay storyline on Days was front and center, the ratings were at their lowest. Check it out. The numbers do not lie. I believe that is a major reason for the change in head writers on Days. Ken Corday had to do something before he lost the show altogether.

For the record, I have made no secret of the fact that I am not in favor of a gay storyline on Days. So many of my previous posts on this website have reflected my thoughts about it that I will not repeat those thoughts in this post. Those who have read other posts by me already know my position and I dare not weary them or myself with it.

Nevertheless, you don’t have to take my word about the ratings. Go and see for yourself. I am well aware of what year we are living in. So are the people who did not watch Days because of the gay storyline. It didn’t seem to matter to them what year it is. Some people act on principles and not on what is trendy or politically correct. I happen to be one and so are the people who did NOT watch Days because of the gay storyline.

A long, lost Hernandez brother?

So, is this Eve’s ex-husband and Paige’s father?

Hmmmmm. Good one, Kelly!

There you are…havent read your comments for some time…he could be Paige’s PawPaw but the actor himself is like 35 which means he is either going to play older or he got Eve prego when he was only 15…lol…Days sure has improved…i like it so much better than GH now which i rarely watch…hope new writers improve things real soon over there!!! Chow!!!

@jimh.
Hi, Jimh. Yeah,I’m here, my friend. I took off to parts unknown for a few weeks…LOL.
And, there you are setting me straight. I guess this mystery guy is too young to be Eve’s ex.
Yes, I am really getting into DOOL, again….I especially appreciate Chad getting a challenging and interesting storyline. Also waiting for Clyde to head for the gallows……with Ben in tow.
I always had a creepy feeling about Aidan, too. Later.

Ceec!

hope those 2-3 weeks plus were enervating

welcome back to the fold

CeeCee…just like a GH character who disappears for weeks…lol…are you on contract now or recurring…lol…kidding…lol

@Patrick.
Thank you, my friend. We did a lot of cruising on the high seas. LOL…..with my five siblings and respective families. I would love to go to Egypt, we were within reach, but too much turmoil in those waters and neighboring countries. Perhaps, one day!
I see that your favorite soap, DOOL, is regaining foothold. You must be so overjoyed. I am loving it, myself, right now. Later.

@jimh.
It’s so good to see you haven’t lost your sense of humor, Jimh. I love it, and you. Later, friend.

Yea!! I like the guy. Could be be recast for Rafe’s brother?

Will he be another brother ?

I was hoping he would be Dario (his brother) but it sounds like maybe just an old buddy. I love Jordi and he needs to be on a soap so I hope they make it work and make his character a good one.

He is the best! Greatbnews for Days! Hope he is paired with Theresa

Another excellent addition. I hope to see him paired with Nicole.

I’ll be really upset if they have used him to recast Dario, Rafe’s younger brother. I really loved Francisco San Martin and I still wish they had kept his character as he was the only Hernandez sibling I ever liked.

Great news! Days has been excellent & Jordi will fit in just fine….I look forward to seeing him in Salem. He has been awesome in Hulu’s South Beach & I always liked him on #AMC. He’s also a really nice guy. Congrats to Jordi on his new role!

Dario? or is he too old but hey they did age the kids…lol

if this is the “big” surprise…. i’m a little deflated…. OK… hold that thought

LOL : where is my Susan Flannery and/or Jamie Lyn Bauer ?

I already like the ideas !

1. Paul nuLOVE
2. Theresa nuLOVE
3. Eve; ex-husband

could be any one of these three…. i’m partial to him being paired with #1 or #3. Just to get Eve out of Jennifer orbit

Xander : i’m going to prop, laud, and applause, how magnifying his ACTING skill reels

That would mean aging the rest of the young adult set as well since Dario is originally from that age-range.

Not really…Will was born before E.J.,—now E.J. is old enough to be Wills daddy…lol

I truly only know him from his stint on AMC… and wasn’t disappointed

the excitement and build IN Salem…. monumental… and lauded

CELEBRATing

Dario?

LOL a character he made up at home and forgot when he went to post…

Well whoever he is it is just good to see poor Rafe get some family or friends back into his life– he has been floating around town solo for so long–I still think they should bring his mother into the show– a strict Catholic having a granddaughter being raised by a gay man would throw some reality into that story line- because lets face facts a lot of gay couples out there with children aren’t always embraced by their own families or the community around them– it would be a realistic story to tell.

yeah, I don’t know what was worse …. ? !

Rafe or Nicole doing solo

LOL

I think Nicole wins that by a long shot… and continues to…. yeah, even if she’s stuck with Daniel and Parker

Rafe’alicious gets a brother… and Gabs is on the horizon… with her daughter.

Galen Gerring…. doesn’t let up… just smitten(s)

Rafe is also getting a father?

A. Martinez?

I wonder if Ari will be aged and all of a sudden be 35? hahahaha

Yeah, poor Rafe is trying so hard to be stoic….not licking his wounds be so obvious. But, he’s drooling over Hope! I just don’t get it!!??

Well, Hope is hot…lol

One of Guiding Light’s most disastrous recasts was Tony Santos after Jordi left that show. He’s a breath of fresh air and will bring good things to “Days.”

I didn’t think Stephen Martines was the problem; it was more the way the show decided to rewrite the character of Tony to fit their new plans (that was Conboy and Weston, who did very little right on GL anyway, though the Ellen Wheeler storyline putting Tony in a triangle with Danny and Michelle was also a loser). One of the endearing things about Tony was an underlying sweetness that the character had when JV was playing him, which gave the character some dimension. That was totally gone in the second incarnation, and Tony was far less interesting as a result.

I give Mr. Vilasuso props. He is in the minority among young soap actors who actually used their time on the soaps to grow as actors. So many of them remain no better when they leave than when they started, but by the time JV got his Emmy, I thought he deserved it.

Glad to see him back on soaps.

Jordi had auditioned previously for Will Horton, but turned down the roll. I seriously doubt he will be involved with Paul. Maybe tied with Bo, ISA, or Ava. For those who don’t know who he is, He is the brother in law to Bailey Madison. His wife Kaitlin is such a sweet person. I can’t wait to see him on DOOL.

Not loving it.

He was excellent on the ABC-TV version of ALL MY CHILDREN but was hardly utilized at all on Prospect Park’s butchered on-line version – I am sure he will do a very professional job – he looks like he could be Rafe’s cousin or brother.

The pecs are PRIME – Google ’em!

This is a great casting addition! Jordi was awesome on AMC; didn’t watch him on GL but I’ve heard great things. Hopefully he will be a recast Dario, and not just a random new character.

If they truly want to bring the Hernandez family back to the forefront, I hope they bring Arianna back from the dead. Lindsay Hartley is very talented, and killing the character off was a huge mistake.

Carol Burnett Talks About Being a Superfan of ‘All My Children’ on ‘Live with Kelly and Mark’

In a heartfelt reunion, of sorts, the one and only Carol Burnett appeared on Monday March 25th episode of Live with Kelly and Mark.

Burnett had first met Kelly Ripa (Hayley) and Mark Consuelos (ex-Mateo) back when they all appeared on All My Children together. Carol played Verla Grubbs first in 1983 and then again in the 90’s.

Host Kelly Ripa (ex-Hayley, AMC) noted to Burnett that “we go back a long time”. She also described Burnett’s character of Verla Grubbs, “extraordinary in every way.”

Carol’s love for All My Children is well-documented, hence legendary soap creator, Agnes Nixon, created the role of Verla for Burnett.

Speaking on how her passion for All My Children began, Carol told Kelly and Mark, “It started with my kids. They would watch at noon. I said, ‘What are you guys doing?’ I sat down and I started to watch and I got hooked!”

When Carol’s family decided to travel through Europe during one summer, the comedic legend recalled thinking, “How am I going to last if I don’t know what’s going on in Pine Valley?” She revealed she had a friend, “who sent me a telegram to the (different hotels) on Fridays to bring me up to date.”

In a hilarious moment from the segment, Carol recalled receiving a late night telegram while in Lake Cuomo when there was a knock at her hotel room door from the hotel manager who was shaking.

Carol related what it said, “Erica is still in a coma. Mark slipped again and ran away from rehab.” As Kelly and Mark broke into laughter, Burnett continued, “Chuck has learned that Donna is carrying his baby, who was once a hooker.”

Check out Carol explaining how she became an AMC Superfan below.

Malachy McCourt, ‘Ryan’s Hope’ and ‘All My Children’ Actor, Dead at 92

If you watched Ryan’s Hope through its 14-year-run, you know that Kevin the bartender became a beloved “member’ of the Ryan clan on the defunct ABC daytime drama series. The character of Kevin MacGuiness became so loved by the fans because of the actor who portrayed him, Malachy McCourt.

Sadly, according to his wife Diana McCourt to The New York Times, Malachy passed away on Monday from a heart condition and battling cancer. The actor was 92-years-old.

Playing Kevin on Ryan’s Hope was not much of a stretch for McCourt, because in his lifetime, he was the owner of 1950s Irish pub Malachy’s on Third Avenue in Manhattan. Known as one of the city’s great story-tellers, patrons from longshoremen to the actor Richard Harris would stop in and talk all things Irish with . On Ryan’s Hope, Kevin was best friends to “Ryan’s Bar” owner, Johnny Ryan (Bernie Barrow) and he tried to keep Delia (Ilene Kristen) on the straight and narrow.

In his soap opera career, McCourt also was widely-known for his role of Father Clarence McCourt on All My Children especially come Christmastime. Was Clarence, actually St. Nick? That was always the proverbial question. McCourt also appeared on the New York soaps: One Life To Live, Search For Tomorrow and Another World. Other roles included: Devil’s Own, Brewster’s Millions, The Molly Maguires, and Starman, to name

Later in 2006, Malachy ran for governor of the state of New York as a Green Party candidate. He tackled social issues of the time including being an advocate for gay and lesbian groups to march in the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

McCourt’s childhood was recounted within his brother Frank McCourt’s Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir Angela’s Ashes, which detailed their mother’s attempt to raise the four of their surviving seven children in poverty in Limerick, Ireland. Later, Malachy wrote his own memoirs: 1998’s Monk Swimming, and 2000’s Singing My Him Song.

Malachy is survived by his aforementioned wife, Diana, daughter Siobhan McCourt; sons Malachy Jr., Conor and Cormac; stepdaughter Nina Galin; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
