Lynn Herring Addresses If and When She Would Consider A Return To General Hospital!

We love Lucy! That’s a fact, and so do millions of General Hospital fans, who are always excited when Lynn Herring (Lucy Coe) pops up on the ABC daytime drama series, but therein lies the problem.

According to actress Lynn Herring, she doesn’t just want to pop up on GH anymore unless there is something substanstive in storyline to warrant her return. Herring shared her thoughts on her official facebook fan page after so many asked if she is coming back anytime soon to GH.

Lynn expressed in a statement:  “Thank you all for thinking of me ….. and Lucy, of course, it means so much! I am loving ranching and Museum-ing (is that a word?) right now. I do miss playing Lucy but I am not interested in a line here or there or a day once in awhile. All the years of happiness and satisfaction I had playing Lucy are too important to me, and I would never want to belittle all the great memories I have of her adventures. If Frank (Valentini) and the writers need Lucy for a story or a firm connection in the show then I will jump out of my saddle and come running for sure.”

Herring added a special P.S:  “Not sure if General Hospital is doing the Nurses Ball again this year and if they are, if Lucy is even included. You will be the first to know when I find out! Thank you for all your interest, support and fun comments! Got to head back outside. The river washed out many of our fences and the cows are taking advantage.”

So, what do you think of Lynn’s sentiments? Do you think GH should give Lucy a greater purpose in story at this juncture?  Do you think the writers  Jean Passanante and Shelly Altman will find a solid way to utilize her in the future?  Share your thoughts in the comment section below.

I wholeheartedly agree

Me, too! Good for Lynn for standing her ground.

And on that line of thinking–just where is Genie Francis’ promised storyline?

Maybe she will be needed again as the ELQ stuff heats up between Jason and Nikolas. Shareholder meetings. Shareholder drama.

I agree with Lynn they need to give her character more airtime and more then just a line here and there, same for Kristina wagner, it was so sad seeing her at Robins wedding and hardly saying anything she just stood there like a mute, that was not right.

Lucy is such an important part of GH, a character with so much history who was involved in so many great GH moments and stories just like Felicia. It was sad to see Felicia used as a piece of furniture at Robin’s wedding and it was sad to see the treatment Lucy received the past few years as well.

I thought the most interesting thing she said was, “All the years of happiness and satisfaction I had playing Lucy are too important to me and I would never want to belittle all the great memories I have of her adventures.”

This is a woman who has respect for her character, the show and the fans. It isn’t just the infrequency and randomness of her appearances but how the character has been treated the past few years. There was promise at the beginning, finding Lucy for the NB, finding out she was in financial trouble, opened the door to her turning her situation around, rebooting the company, Laura was on canvas at the time, there was speculation they could team up.

But then Lucy was written as just the buffoon, without the smarts and charm that’s she always had. There was the “relationship” with Duke that was an extremely thin plot point and her role in giving Nik ELQ and some reasoning about Michael keeping Avery from Sonny.

I think Lynn finally realized that putting Lucy on display in this manner was just disrespecting all the great history Lucy built, that she built, and decided that her work and the legacy of the show were too important to as she put it “belittle.” I admire her integrity.

And it’s too bad. A show that had Lucy running Deception or Crimson with Maxie and with Laura would be a far better show.

I think it would be less painful to contemplate Lucy’s absence from story prominence if what was being put on the screen in place of stories for Lucy were more compelling. I respect that veteran performers get paid more than newbies and so we’re not going to get the vets in the number and prominence that we’d probably like. But there are others around who, while not Port Charles veterans, are veteran soap stars and commanding high salaries too (West, DeVry, Stafford, Howarth, Miller). I can’t help thinking that it would have been a better use of that money to bring back more vets and refocus the show around them. That’s nothing against those five performers (I find West and Miller particularly impressive, although Ava is a thoroughly reprehensible character, really, and it’s only Ms. West’s talents that keep her at all viable), and all soaps do need new characters from time to time, but I do wonder about the decision-making process that decided on the current focus of the show on their characters when the money for their salaries could have been used to resurrect and revitalize some Port Charles vets.

It was good to see Lucy around a bit more the last few years but I think you are right that she was often a thinner, less complex character (as you put it, pretty much just a buffoon) in her most recent reincarnation, and overall I would say that the Carlivati regime did not seem to “get” her. I wonder if the current writers would do better. I recently saw on You Tube some clips from around the time of BJ’s death, when Lucy was remembering that she had been BJ’s “mother” for a while, and I was reminded how fascinating Lucy can be when she’s written in all of her contradictions and complexity.

I have to respect Ms. Herring for not wanting to return if they’re not going to write for Lucy. The character should be a gold mine for the writers; those same contradictions and that same complexity should make her a character whose unpredictability can really drive story. If they’re not going to use her properly, and I’m assuming Ms. Herring doesn’t need the money, I would have to agree that she’s better off staying home.

(Since we’re on the subject, I’m still waiting for the new writers to give Laura something to do that’s worthy of Genie Francis’s talents, too.)

It would be so great to have Lynn Herring back! In fact, it would be great to bring Lucy, Scott, Bobbie, Mac and Felicia all back on contract. I would much rather see a story using GH’s beloved vets than watch Jordan, Sabrina, Valerie, Nathan, Kiki, Hayden, Curtis or Carlos. All of these newbies will never be able to create the spark the vets were able to.

GH has a wealth of legacy characters collecting dust right now. Jax, Brenda, Lucky, Ethan, Holly, Sarah and Steve Webber, Tom Hardy Sr and Jr, Serena Baldwin, Frisco Jones and so many others are much more compelling than half the characters on GH now. I would even be fine with supposedly dead characters like Emily, A.J., Connie, Victor and Helena coming back if it meant getting rid of the useless characters.

Unfortunately though, it doesn’t seem like any of that will come to fruition, and we’ll be stuck with more new characters on GH instead of tapping into the show’s history and bringing in characters we care about.

I have been watching GH for a veryyyyyyyyy long time & yes even when all the reg actors actresses were on Steve Audrey, Jessie Brewer. I miss them also but they do have their lives to live in real life. And there are times when GOD calls them to home & its so sad to hear that we lost our dear actorss actresses to cancer etc. I have been following all the stories from the Ice Princess to the freezing of Port Charles Mekos Cassadine & Ceasar Fasion always after Anna. Times do change & so does writers & directors & producers & its hard to accept the new changes along with new actresses & actors but there is 1 thing that I will NEVER ever get tired of seeing & by god I am glad they brought it back the Nurses Ball for the HIV/AIDs research & this yr was extremelyyyyyyy OUTSTANDING It was great seeing Ned Ashton back & Emma singin Dont go breaking my heart. It was great that they brought back Rick Springfield & Jack Wagner back 3 yrs ago for the nurses ball to sing plus they also brought back Duke Lavery. Lynn Herring has done a veryyyyyyyy supurb job on the Nurses Ball this yr she really out did herself. Yes I agree they should give Lucy a more solid contract on GH along with Laura Genie Frances I was even home when Luke & Laura got married & saw it. I agree they should try to bring back the vets on GH butthe vets may not get a chance to get away to come back for a short time on GH if they are workin on another soap movie etc. As I said before I have watched GH thru the Cassadines, Caesar Fasion Ice Princess WSB. I think I was in my teens when I first started watching GH & I will NEVER EVER STOP watching GH oh yeh dont forget when Richard Simmons was on at the 1st Nurses ball Lucy was in her slip & panties when the curtains were drawn up & everybody saw her dont forget 3 yrs ago when he was there also I think he locked Lucy in the clothes closet or the other way around I even watched him whenhe was on doin his exercise program on the show remember that? Just be glad & happy that we still have GH to watch One Life To Life went off the air a few yrs ago & I miss that those were the only 2 soaps that I really loved to watch & record when I was at work. Im hoping that Lynn Herring will continue to plan for the Nurses Ball again every yr she does one hell of a good job putting that together every yr. ( Now the only thing that I really do NOT like is the story line about gay people I just dont dig that kind of story on a soap opera let alone in real life thats my opinion I just hope that in real life that Brad & Lucus is really NOT gay ppl if so its ok. I am very happy that Sabrina came back. How long have you been watching GH?

Have a great night

If and when GH pares down its cast and settles on a core group of characters, Lynn’s Lucy Coe should be among them. However the character should not be written as wacky, which rarely works on soaps. Lucy can be flighty and esoteric but she is also a character with substance and Lynn Herring is brilliant at playing substance. Too many GH characters have become caricatures. The writers need to dig deep and create some compelling stories with a beginning, middle and a payoff. Then just turn loose the brilliant cast and let them have at it. Practically any loyal, long-term viewer could suggest story-lines which are more compelling than what we are getting. Long live GH!

General Hospital…Bring Lucy back with a good storyline starting with the Nurses Ball. Next for Lucy after that…I’m liking the revival of Crimson, Port Charles has been a little dull for years. So let Lucy assume a position at Crimson since she is a fashionista and had owned her own cosmetic company. This would really drive Julian crazy.

Lucy is a has been, I hope she never comes back to GH. Very annoying character. Lynn deserves better, GH IS RUNNING OUT OF TIME. Just cancel it, and replace it with a Kardashians talk show

Lucy will never been a “has been”. She is loved by legions of GH fans. If they do bring her back I also hope they bring Sigmund the duck. Why would think that GH is running out of time?

I really appreciate her and I would love to see her back on GH. At the same time, I realize that there’s only so much room on the canvas. I thought that once Laura was back, Lucy and she would pick up the whole spa story line. That seemed to be encompassing a lot of characters just as the waterfront clinic Michael was working on was supposed to.

I’m happy to hear she loves ranching and “museum-ing”.

I dont see a place for her as the storylines with her were pretty dull. She overacts the role of Lucy and I hope GH concentrates on their better actresses.

Lynn is a fantastic actress. The writing for Lucy was awful, OTT and clownish with Cartini, just like so many other characters. She followed the writing, direction and campy nature of the show just like Dr.O, Denise Demuccio and others, all fine actors.

It might be that you didn’t watch the show back in the day to see how wonderful Lynn was. OTT at times yes, but so many layers and so much range, to play it comedic one moment and dead serious the next. She like all the other great actors at the time broke our hearts during BJ’s death.

GH doesn’t have Lucy and Lynn and we are worse off for it.

Lynn Herring was a tremendous asset to GH back in the 80’s and 90’s. I wish new viewers like you would realize that this show wouldn’t even be around if it weren’t for this shows history and veteran actors.

Lynn is a terrible actress, sorry she cannot act at all. My dog can act better, than her LOL.

GH needs to give all their vets a greater purpose…its just so-so ok…just little bits here and there…time to have JaSNOOZon remember everything about his past…let him become a doctor or whatever-just move him forward. Let Bobbie buy Kellys…what happened to that business Lucy and Laura were suppose to start…did Laura even read that letter Luke gave her…right now build a chicken coop around old mother hen Laura…good actress deserves better than just looking after her chicks…more Scott too…Y&R uses most of their vets and why it remains number one…GH treats its vets like old useless antiques that no longer collectible or have any value-locked up in an attic and dusted off when in a full moon some use is found for them…but these vets are priceless and need to be shown all the time!!!

Yes-I do agree.

Get rid of Nina, the poor man’s Lucy and bring back the real deal

@jimh….Kelly’s needs to be restored as one of the major hubs of activities in Port Charles….it was always the perfect place for both the great and small of the community to congregate. Of the current cast, only Laura is the logical choice to run the establishment, although you will notice lower down the page (I hope….) that I have suggested the wild card choice of Robin Mattson as the returning Heather Webber to give the diner a real shot in the arm….figuratively speaking, that is! (With Heather one can never be sure….LOL.) Having said that, nobody else reveres the restaurant’s signature BLT like Heather…..she will give it the proper pride of place on the Kelly’s menu!!!!!

Yes…how could i forget Heather…i think i would want her to run Kellys too…she should have a grand reopening and serve her famous blts to Nina,Sappy Val, and a few others…her special seasoning for the group-poison!!!

Ooooooh….I like the way you think, jimh! I’d even “grant” Heather ( a little play on Ms. Webber’s maiden name there….) a pardon for performing that community service! Someone needs to step up and clear out all the deadweight from the Port Charles canvas, and I do believe Heather is just the one for the job! Yes!

Maybe they can write a storyline with some history involved…bring back Lucy and have her and Bobbie being stalked mysteriously….for months someone is playing a cat and mouse game with them and when all is said and done, it turns out the culprit is none other than Kevin O’Connor….he didn’t die from that fall off the cliff back in the 80s and he’s back to wreck havoc and make Lucy and Bobbie pay for their sins…maybe he can be a priest with a vengeance for revenge since both Lucy and Bobbie were “bad girls” in the past….or bring back Serena and she can be the daughter from hell for Lucy and Scotty….or maybe Laura and Lucy can have a storyline together…too strong lead characters running a business together to take down the Qs…..Lucy has so many ties to other families and characters….stop wasting story on Sabrina and the mob families….maybe Franco and Lucy can be cousins or Nina and Lucy…..just bring her back…she’s an awesome actress…just needs a great storyline….or maybe Frank V can put together a 30 minute new show to air on ABC since all the talk shows never seem to last…Ms. Herring could be a whole new character on a New soap….just some ideas….

Of course they should. Please GH get something going with all the vets on the show right now…it is a shame that such possibilities with all the “classic” characters aren’t being explored more, and more often.

It was good to see her but I agree with here. Not a big fan of seeing old actors here and there and adding nothing to the show..

I wish GH would realize the importance of how viewers want to see beloved characters such as lucy, boobi, mac , Felicia and more from the past. These characters have such a rich history to the fabric of what makes gh the show viewers fell in love with. New characters brought to the canvas is vital to keeping our shows fresh and new. However, need they need to be introduced slowly with character driven stories with connections to the families on the show. I commend gh executive producer frank valentini for acknowledging this by bringing back some of our favorites characters the last four years. Although Lynn herring said it best. There needs to be a story arc that will develop and unfold into the lives of these chacaters and leave a lasting impression.

I agree with you! I wish newer viewers would brush up on the history of this show. I wish they would respect vets more.

I’d love to see Lynn again soon – but I totally agree with her!

I totally get and understand Lynn’s feelings, totally valid. I would urge GH and team to bring back Lucy is full-time story, I’d like her to re-team with Laura with Deception or that spa idea they were discussing a few years ago; If GH can manage to bring a big story arc involving Kevin and Lucy, I’m in, right low, GH is dull, most of it, I usually find myself tuning out, unfortunately, if GH can secure Jon (Kevin) and Lynn (Lucy) to the canvas for at least a year, wow that would be amazing, there’s ALWAYS so much story to tell with such a high-energy, fun loving character as Lucy Coe. And, Scotty is around, too, as is Bobbie. Let’s play, utilize these vets, GH!

Never been a big fan of Lucy Coe. What I am a fan of is her standing up to Frank and saying that she isnt interested in coming back to GH to say a line or two. Amen ! I am tired of the show dragging these vets out every couple months to appease us long time viewers. Write them a damn story and get rid of all the excess fat on the show! I dont need to mention names. The fans know who sucks the life out of the show weekly already! Lucy and Laura should be involved in a story that includes reopening Deception. Give these two talented ladies something to do!

I know. They throw little crumbs but nothing solid for them to chew. The most disturbing, in my opinion, was last November when Audrey Hardy was shown penning a letter to Elizabeth. There was a narration during that scene of her voice. But Heaven forbid if she be allowed to speak and truly act during a scene or share scenes with other actors. It was like watching a ghost.

I had that thought too, Patricia, but I wondered if Rachel Ames’s age and physical condition may have made it difficult for her to do scenes that demanded any more of her than sitting at a desk. I may be completely off base on that, and I’m not basing it on any real knowledge, just a guess. But it really struck me too at the time as a total waste of the actress’s return, and that’s how I accounted for it in my mind, because I could not see any other good explanation for otherwise wasting a golden opportunity.

Exactly, Timmbo! Whilst I’ve also never been a fan of this particular Port Charles drama queen, you’re absolutely correct about how nearly all the GH vets are misused and abused when they are brought back for those extremely limited engagements. We need at least a few of the really great legacy characters like Anna, Scorpio, Laura, Mac, and maybe even Frisco, returned to the canvas on a prominent basis to create some semblance of stability to the show….put them in permanent positions of authority, like mayor, police commissioner, whatever, and quit playing musical chairs in filling those jobs with the ineffectual flavor of the day individuals….there is just no consistency or sense of history with most of the current parties in charge. Lastly, speaking of vets we need, it’s time for Heather Webber to bring her own particular sort of insanity back to Port Charles….not so much the OTT murderous stuff, but the daffy, offbeat comedy….let her be pronounced “safe again for society” and mean it. Put her to work at Kelly’s….nobody would give more TLC to the BLT than she would, and it would be fun to see her mixing with all the oldies who have returned since her last crime spree. (We also should have her Steven Larsssss and ex- Dr. Jeff reintroduced.) Finally, this is just a thought, but given revisionism is such a part of the GH fabric, I do believe that Kiki should be discovered to have been Franco’s true bio-child after all….with Silas (sadly) dead, there is no point to his paternity anymore, and speaking of Robin Mattson’s Heather, if you look at her back in the day, there is a strong resemblance to Hayley Erin…they would make very credible relatives, and how cool would it be for Kiki to have the “Two Delias” as her grans? (“Ryan’s Hope” reference there…..) Later!

Y&R has vets on their show all the time and gives them meaty stories. What gives GH? Frisco should retire from the WSB and should be back as a commissioner of PC! Shayster, me loves Heather! Can you imagine her doing a work release at Kellys! They couldnt keep enough BLT’s for our crazy kook! And another good point there Shay, good time to bring Steven and Jeff back! You are on a roll girlfriend! Kiki. I was watching her the other day with Julian and the KikSTER has really elevated her game. I like her! See ya at Kellys!

Yes, we need a big table at Kelly’s so we can all meet up! Jimh, Harry, CeeCee, Fanny, Patrick, et al of the gang! ‘Twould be a laugh riot! Totally agree with you about Frisco….and yes, Kiki has much improved, but she needs to give Morgan his walking papers for good. So, do you think she resembles a young Heather? It’s the height, long blonde hair and facial structure that remind me of when Robin Mattson first hit town as that irrepressible lunatic!

Count me in, what a lunch that would be! Does Kellys have CATfish on the menu? Morgan is a loser. He should just concentrate on roasting little Miss America’s coffee beans and leave Kiki alone! Yes Shay, Kiki does resemble a young Robin Mattson AND one day she may even be as good of an actress as Robin. She is heading in the right direction, for sure.

Lucy has many fans..
She is way way to hyper for me… I get wore out watching her lol
I always hoped she would be written more normal and really calmed down..

I second that motion.

And I’ll third it, Fanny! You know what though??? I could actually have pictured this actress on B&B as Sally Spectra’s illegitimate daughter…..once Sal purportedly “retired,” it would have made perfect sense for her equally flamboyant first-born offspring to roll into town to take over the family business to which she felt entitled after she was given up for adoption by Mama Sal via her twin sister’s “Rose DeVille Agency” in Genoa City! (Wink, wink…)

She used to be Su000. She was such a deliciously good bad girl. Sadly, GH doesn’t value it’s vets.

I’m with get all the way# I mean I don’t understand why they don’t write for the legacy characters who have such rich history. I would involve their offspring in stories that tie them to the past. General Hospital seems like the only soap that under utilizes their classic characters. Lucy deserves story.

Just bring her back full time and bring back one of her daughters to be a third wheel with Kiki and Morgan or maybe for Michael. One of the girls is Scotty’s daughter so that would be a sibling to Franco and could be more story for all involved.

Agree completely with a lot of what’s been said. It’s as if they can’t find writers who can write for Laura, Bobbie, Lucy, Felicia….and all of the great veteran characters that are still there, even if recurring, who could have an impact on the show. They miss out on the entire intergenerational relationships that make soaps great. Laura having the exact same conversation with Lulu 20 times doesn’t count.

I agree with LYNN totally! I think she should move on to another show/soap. GH continually ignores HER fans asking for HER return. I think let them ignore the multi talented actress and I know someone else will realize how talented she is and scoop her up. We ALL support Lynn..AKA Lucy ! If they snooze much longer, GH will LOSE..IN A BIG WAY!

I’ve been watching the show since Audrey and Jessie were the ingenues! I’ve seen characters and storylines come and go (and come and go again!). Lynn Herring has been allowed to show great range from time to time (like when BJ almost died – still one of the most memorable times ever!) … and she’s made viewers laugh until they cried. I will never understand why they have an actress like her at their disposal – and a character with so much potential as Lucy – and they simply refuse to utilize her. They teased a great possibility with Lucy and Laura going into business together but, like so many times before, they let it drop. Now Genie Francis is on contract … but Lynn Herring is not. If the powers-that-be at GH had any sense at all, they’d give such a fan favorite something to do to keep her on the Port Charles landscape. But do they have the sense? Who even knows at this point. So disappointing!

Speaking of the NB, if the writers cannot do any better than the last two debacles, may I suggest just skipping over it this year??? Even though the 50th anniversary event held some real disappointments in terms of the way legacy characters were treated, it at least generated excitement at the thought of so many beloved veterans returning to Port Charles, albeit far too briefly. The same cannot be said for 2014 and 2015….with the sole exceptions of Dr. O.’s inspired sets and Spinelli’s charming star turn this past year, the performances were mostly cringeworthy. I understand budget plays a great deal in determining how lavishly this extravaganza can be presented, but if all that can be mustered is a skeleton cast of mostly unsatisfying newbies and extras to fill chairs with no professional entertainment that reflects GH’s deeply rich history of musical talent, then let’s just forget the whole thing and do something different for 2016.

I agree Shay, The NB has been a snooze fest! There is so much talent attached to GH over the years. I’m not saying that Ricky Martin, Jack Wagner and Rick Springfield would all roll into Port Charles for the event BUT Hollywood is a charitable bunch, AIDS is a serious cause, why not attach the cause with the characters and celebrities and have a 2 hour primetime event on ABC. “ABC and General Hospital Presents…” and do the show WITHOUT any GH stories dragging the event down! THAT to me was a big problem, you had lame characters and lame storylines, cheap entertainment and oh here is Jakeson kidnapping Sam! No, take a day off of telling stories and have a two hour live show where you can donate money and watch your favorite soap stars rub shoulders with Hollywood!

Good for you Lynn! I cherish my Lucy memories and all the machinations and cat-fights, lol. Sadly, GH doesn’t value it’s history.

We don’t need Lucy. Sonny can host the Nurses Ball and the entire Corinthos family can do all the singing and sketches while everyone else just does their usual thing: sitting on the sidelines while the first family of Port Charles sucks the life out of everything.

Too funny Alan!

Unfortunately this is all just redundant. So many posts lament the old GH. Many newer viewers don’t long for the old days or the vets…and why should they? They don’t share the memories or the nostalgia for the old GH.

Many of us who DO miss those days seem to be spinning our wheels…as do the GH actors such as Lynn Herring who have been put on the back burner, or extinguished. I love Lucy Coe. I love her quirks, neurosis, devious mind, good heart, loyalty, humor, exuberance…just everything about her. I also love Kevin, Scott, Mac, Bobbie,, Frisco, Robert, Holly, etc, etc…But that was yesterday. Unfortunately.

As we all know it’s about money. Ratings, Advertisers. We’ve all discussed this many times before too. Daytime soaps are struggling to stay alive. I can just see the writers sitting around the conference room coming up with storylines and characters…all with the warnings from the business side to come up with something to increase viewers. And so this is what they’ve come up with. Out with the old (not the OLD) but the vets and their storylines…and in with the new (not younger) but new characters, storylines, in an attemnpt to create new interest. And so they’ve come up with a hybrid. A mix of the origtinal while slowing thredding in new characters, stories. Only, it’s not working.

I think they’re hedging their bets. Trying one last hurrah to see if they can revive GH. I,, as many of the longrtime viewers hope they get a clue before it’s too late. The key is not to flood the show with younger actors and younger writers as some suggest…but to bring back and keep many of the original families and characters…who might…if not currentlty working on other shows, take a pay cut for a craft they love.

Just like in real life we obviously can’t return to earlier days or our fondest memories, but we should be able to still have these characters in our lives…front and center and living in Port Charles… for long as we still have a Port Charles. What ultimately will be the point of “visiting” if no one familiar is there….

Two things in reply, Rebecca (and I agree with what you’re saying): (1) All of the change and upheaval would be easier to stomach if what they are doing were working–but it isn’t. TPTB can blame it all they want on changing demographics and viewing habits, and I’m sure that plays a part, but the overall decline in ratings also points to their failure to provide consistently compelling viewing—for a long time now. Storytelling matters, but they’ve driven just about all the real talent out of the soap writing field because they won’t let the writers do their jobs. (2) Even the characters/actors who are now familiar were new to us once too, but we grew to love them. That’s largely not happening with the newer characters that are being created, and it isn’t only because we’re resentful that they’re displacing characters we’d rather see—it’s because by and large they either aren’t compelling characters, or they aren’t given stories that are written in a way to make us care about them, or both. (And in some cases, they aren’t being played by actors capable of making us care about them, but that’s another, though related, issue.) I don’t think most of us are inherently resistant to new characters (though a better balance of new to old/familiar would be welcome), but we aren’t going to grow fond of them just because they’re put on our screen front and center.

So I would observe that they’re losing those of us who have been around a while because we’re not seeing enough of the people we’d like to see, but it’s hard to imagine they’re winning the loyalty of newer viewers either, because what’s on the screen isn’t exactly riveting stuff that’s likely to make people invest in the more recently introduced characters. That does not sound like a winning formula to me.

Hi Michael (not Fairman)…lol…always thought the way you phrased that was cute….

Ya. I understand and agree with what you’ve said as well. And yes, at some point each familiar character was new. But there was always the core group, the “originals” that everyone else centered around. That’s what’s missing. They’ve let a few remain, the others are barely mentioned or pop in out of nowhere and the quickly disappear. I hesitate to say anything else about it because as I said above, it’s just redundant. A shame…

Realistically, it can never be the show it once was. we’re never going to get back the Scorpio of old…his friendship with Shawn Donnelly…the zany Tiffany, Holly…the Baldwins, Amy…they’re all gone. That’s the price of longevity. The show remains yet much of the cast is gone…

The writers need to be willing to reach out and REALLY write for the remaining vets and start bringing their descendants in. All they’ve been doing is killing them off, locking them up or having them move out of town. Unlike primetime hit shows that go off the air leaving the audience wanting more…soaps go on and on…and with that comes many losses. On a philosophical note once again…the old years of GH will never be recreated. They’re gone. And so is that magic. It can still be good, just not what it once was. And such is life.

Dear GH…..Lucy is one of the characters that helped me fall in love with the show in the first place! Dont let her ride off in the sunset, give her a new love with a crazy adventure. PLEASE!

Yes, I think they need to give her a story line. She is the one that Stole the voting box with Duke and she has that 1% in ELQ and Laura and her were going to go into business before Laura left again. There are some idea’s for them. I hope the notice this and correct the problem and give her a juicy major storyline.

General Hospital

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Brook Lynn and Chase Have Their Bachelor and Bachelorette Parties

On General Hospital, Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) and Chase (Josh Swickard) both were treated to Bachelorette and Bachelor parties to shake off any of those pre-wedding jitters. At The Savoy, the ladies have a touching and fun time with Brook Lynn.

The bride-to-be gives a speech to thank everyone for coming, while Lois lets everyone know to try the signature cocktail the “Brooklynn Chaser”, which gets everybody eventually and mostly, drunk.

When Tracy (Jane Elliot) questions Lois (Rena Sofer) as to why there is no music for the party, Lois realizes she forgot, and somehow, who does she call to the rescue? Spinelli (Bradford Anderson)! Saving the day, he winds up playing some tunes and later gets on the dance floor to ‘shake it off’ with the gals.

Lois makes a speech as the mother of the bride, and shares how proud she is of the woman Brook Lynn has become. Wedding games begin, including one of “hot potato” with a wedding bouquet.

When it’s time for the “Silly Poses” section of the party, Spinelli has now morphed from DJ to staff photographer taking memorable photos of the ladies to remember the evening by.

The best part of the event, was when Brook Lynn tries to get her grandmother Tracy out on the dance floor, which, at first, she refuses. After several of the guests bust a move, a tipsy Tracy joins the dance party after Joss mentions that if her grandmother Bobbie was here, she would dance. Tracy says “she agrees” and begins to cut a rug on the floor, much to the delight of the other women.

In the final moments, a tipsy Joss and Kristina (Kate Mansi) have a confrontation about Sonny, and Joss lets Kristina in more on Sonny’s behavior, which looks to have clued in Kristina a bit more as to how something is way off about her dad.

Across town at the Hatchett Bar, Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) and the men with the exception of Anna (Finola Hughes) and Jordan (Tanisha Harper), all attend Chase’s Bachelor Party where throwing hatchets into a dart board for supremacy is the order of the day. Drew (Cameron Mathison) and Ned (Wally Kurth) get into some words over ELQ, while Dante makes a toast to his police partner, Chase.

Suddenly Dex (Evan Hofer) shows up. Chase thanks Dex for coming, but Dex gets some dirty looks from other cops on the force. Dante gives Chase his present, which is a signed baseball by the Boston Red Sox.

Ned (Wally Kurth) makes a speech that although no one is good enough for his daughter, Brook Lynn, Chase has come closer than anyone has, so welcome to the family. Running in at the end is Blaze (Jacqueline Grace Lopez), who just left Brook Lynn’s party, and she toasts her singing partner, Chase, and to the great man that he is.

Cameron Mathison Previews New Game Show ‘Beat The Bridge’ (Promo)

As previously reported, Cameron Mathison (Drew, General Hospital) will be seen doing double duty this summer when he premieres in June as the host of Game Show Network’s Beat The Bridge.

Now, while Cameron will be the host with the most, that doesn’t mean he will stop playing GH’s Drew.  In fact, Mathison taped the game show in 2023, so it will now air for the first time in 2024.

Taking to his Instagram this week, Cameron shared his enthusiasm and some new hosting snaps, sharing, “Our newest game show host reporting for duty😎 Head over to the Game Show Network YouTube channel for your first look at the show and don’t miss Beat The Bridge premiering this June! I can’t wait for you guys to see this!”

In Beat The Bridge, an enormous interactive bridge dares players to cross by stepping on the right answers to challenging trivia questions. As they play, each steps forward and puts money in their team’s bank, with bonus money for each successful crossing. Here’s the catch: the team gets to keep the money only if it can “beat the bridge” by returning one of its players back across before time expires.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Nina Confronts Ava for Sabotaging Her Relationship With Sonny and Signs the Divorce Papers

Looks like Nina (Cynthia Watros) and Ava (Maura West) are back to be each other’s sworn enemy number one. By the end of the Monday, April 22nd episode of General Hospital, the women know where they stand with each other after Nina goes in on Ava accusing her of wanting Sonny (Maurice Benard) all to herself, while her marriage has been on the rocks.

In story, at Nina’s office, Ava shows up to see Nina and says she is sorry about what happened with Sonny and that he reacted the way he did, acknowledging that is was over the top, even for Sonny. Ava says she’ll smooth things over, but Nina says she now understands how manipulative and transparent Ava really is.

Given their horrible history, Nina goes in on Ava and how she should never have trusted her. Nina wants to know how long has Ava had this agenda dating all the way back to telling Nina to turn Carly (Laura Wright) and Drew (Cameron Mathison) into the SEC. Ava says she never told her do to that, but Nina wants to know how long Ava has been playing her for a fool.

Ava says she moved in with Sonny to keep Avery safe and she wants to be on good terms with Avery’s father, Sonny. Nina thinks she likes being in Sonny’s inner circle. Ava tells Nina if she goes to him about her advising Nina to call the SEC on Carly and Drew, it won’t work.  Sonny still considers Nina a traitor and he will think she’s lying because she’s so desperate to win him back. Ava says if Nina would stop blaming everyone else that maybe Sonny would respect her.  Nina says “like he does you?” Ava says Sonny not only respects her, but he also counts on her.

From there, Ava launches into why she and Sonny understand each other, after all, Sonny is a powerful, turbulent, and sometimes violent man. She goes so far to say if Nina wanted someone to just sit by the fire with and play with their grandchildren, she’s got the wrong guy.  Ava then talks about Mike from Nixon Falls (Sonny with amnesia) and how Sonny hid the darkest parts of himself from Nina back then, whereas with Ava they are the same similar creatures, so he doesn’t have to hide anything.

Nina wants to know just what Ava wants with Sonny? What is her end game? Ava responds that they understand each other, in ways she can’t with Sonny. Nina tells Ava she can go ahead and have it all and signs Sonny’s divorce papers. Ava walks out with the documents, while Nina in tears at her desk, takes off her wedding rings and has her assistant come in so she can messenger the rings back to Sonny’s address.

The episode and these scenes featured great performances by Cynthia Watros and Maura West. You can check some of the scenes below.

Now, let us know, what is Ava’s next move? Is she going to become Mrs. Sonny Corinthos? Do you like Ava and Nina as enemies? Comment below.
