Mariah and Tessa Kiss On The Young and the Restless: Will the Number One Soap Finally Tell The Story Of A Same-Sex Romance?

On Thursday’s episode, Tessa (Cait Fairbanks) and Mariah (Camryn Grimes) shared a kiss. However, both young women are dating men. Tessa is with Noah (Robert Adamson) and Mariah is with Devon (Bryton James).  Yet as it is played now, both seem to be unsatisfied and desperately trying to make their relationships work.

Over recent weeks, Y&R has had the women trade glances, and some touches (remember how gingerly Otalia first occurred on Guiding Light), but they finally locked lips.

Y&R has never had a fully realized same-sex romance storyline over its iconic 44 year history. There was Kay (Jeanne Cooper) and her girlfriend Joanne that went nowhere, and then Adam had sex with Rafe purely as a machination as it was written, and there was Thom Bierdz returning to Y&R as Phillip where they finally had the character be gay.

But now will Y&R stay with the story they have started and have Mariah and Tessa fall in love? Was this story started under Sally Sussman and Kay Alden’s regime, but now that they are gone and EP Mal Young has taken over the head writing of the series will he keep the story trajectory?  And then there are the fans at home.  Do they want to see a same-sex romance between two women on their favorite soap and give the story a chance to progress, or will they reject it?  One thing is for certain, Y&R should be in step with the times we live and show all types of people on the canvas.

So what did you think of the Mariah and Tessa lip-lock? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.

There have been same-sex stories on the shows for a while now. I can’t see how telling a story of a same-sex relationship could hurt Y&R.

That is gross!!!!! Where does that leave the male part of this show… under the age of 50! Gross!!!! No thanks!!!

That’s easy…Kevin will return with the realization of his homosexuality and another male character will be paired with him.

Hahaha…you act like every female character will end up being written as lesbians. This story is centered around Mariah and Tessa. I suppose if the story bothers you, you could always fast forward through those scenes and just watch the stories that interest you. Y&R is still a good show with plenty of stories for everyone.

The story I want to see…something that has really never been done in any media that I can recall…is to have a character…male or female…experiment in same sex stuff, have some fun with it, and realize it is just not their thing. I am in my 30’s…I know plenty of people who have done just that. It does not mean they are closeted, or denying themselves anything…it means they gave a whirl to something which Hollywood depicts as cool and trendy…and realized it was not for them. This show is saddled with a cast full of young men that they can’t write for…turning two of the younger females into sudden lesbians is not the answer!!

To have Mariah develop feelings for Tessa and then declare it “a phase” would be a huge cop out and send the wrong message to groups that call being gay “a choice.” It’s not. And it’s not “cool and trendy”; some people lose their families and friends when they come out — that’s neither “cool” nor “trendy.”

I think it’s sad that in the 21st century the idea of two people of the same sex being in a committed relationship is still considered a bigger issue than poverty, hunger, racial injustice, enviromental protection, or healthcare.

I have no problem,Im 80,two children, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren!Life happens! Those young ones your worried about,Id bet that Noah will end up with Tessas sister and Devon with Killery! You also forgot about Reed and Mattie,so all is well

@Alan…

So, all of a sudden, soaps aren’t allowed to send “the wrong message”? Isn’t that essentially what drama is all about? lol.

Our whole extended family have been big fans since the beginning but we have not watched a single episode since and I’m pretty sure there are a lot of us out there. Am also boycotting all of the advertisers and sponsors of Y&R. We do not need this sick, gross trash crammed down our throat

The only thing that’s gross is a bunch of hideously dumb, homophobic pieces of trailer trash being all judgy about this story.

It would actually be funny if they turned it into a group thing with mariah and tessa. Maybe bring back someone and tessa goes after that guy but also reveals she likes mariah and they have a triangle love relationship

hi James..
It seems that the same sex stories have be with males, not females..
Even the sitcoms with same sex couples (and movies) are male couples..

Having a female couple would be something different..

Perhaps there has been female soap couples but they would be a rarity?

Wonder; if they see male couples as more entertaining, like drag queens and La Cage aux Folles and The Birdcage etc, all male .. Never female.

On All My Children. Erica Kane’s daughter Bianca was a lesbian. She had a few relationships on the show. That played out well. She had even gotten married to another woman on the show too. I agree when it comes to gay stories, it is mostly with men but if they want to tell this story centering around two women, I’ll be watching.

I agree, su. The gay-male storylines are more prominent in soaps, movies etc.
Why is that? Could it be that women don’t readily accept this fact?….Or because women are still considered as demure as a Victorian woman should be? Modest; poised; obedient, dutiful wife to her husband’s every whim. Stepping out of this mold is stepping out of the norm; soooo……
Yet, I think it still comes down to the fact that, in general, homosexuals are considered freaks of nature, and sinful. A shame, really. I wonder just who the sinner is!!

hi Celia ..
I have been to one Pride Parade..
the San Francisco Pride Parade is 90% men, it seemed.

So, to have a female couple would indeed be a rarity ..

hi James R. Poissant,

A female couple on AMC, that was beyond my soap viewing time.
And that one couple was the one and only female couple?
It’s a strange thing that males not females are in the gay stories and one has to wonder why.

There was ALL MY CHILDREN’s Bianca and Frankie…and Bianca and Maggie…and Bianca and Lena…and Bianca and Reese…and Bianca and Marissa.

Also, GUIDING LIGHT’s Olivia and Natalia, THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL’s Karen and Danielle Spencer (mothers to Caroline), and PASSIONS’ Simone and Rae.

I read a theory once that soaps are still considered a predominantly female medium and it’s thought that female viewers would rather watch two attractive men kiss than two women.

This GROSS TRASHY storyline will cost The Young and
The Restless a lot of PREVIOUSLY DEDICATED FANS!!!!

I watch Young & Restless because it is the only soap opera that does not have homosexuals on the show. This is against everything that goes against God, and if the show puts this on, after 40 years, “I won’t be watching anymore” Please don’t go this way. I have to stand up for what I believe.

I love this story and I find it incredibly brave knowing the bigoted audience. I have already seen some insane comment and I had to look at the calendar to remember it was 2017. Great work Camryn Grimes and Cait Fairbanks. Bravo Y&R. I can’t wait to watch this journey and it is about damn time!

I don’t think anybody has a problem its gay but the story line is so boring. I’ve been watching a show for 30 years and she is so fucking boring. She should’ve stayed dead never bought her back.

I am not a Y&R viewer; but, I sincerely hope their story is told with honesty and dignity.

To the powers that be: One Life to Live did a wonderful same sex romance with Oliver Fish and Kyle Lewis. Their story unfolded very slowly with lots of twists and turns and interactions with many other characters and story lines. They had a happy ending. The problem was, after the troubles were over, their characters disappeared from the canvas. Please don’t make the same mistake. If this the direction you’re going, after you get there I hope both characters remain part of the community.

Why???

Why not Jovin? Isn’t Mariah Sharon’s daughter? She has already made a life for herself in town. It is not unrealistic for Mariah and her partner, if that is what Tessa becomes, to remain active members of the community.

And that is exactly what will happen here, Llanviewer. Same sex romances are introduced but then fizzle in rhythm time.
Look st GH—-supposedly, Brad and Lucas are married; still together. But, we never see them.
I am just wondering if Tessa is as new at this as Mariah. Has Tessa had a “thing” for Mariah from the get-go? If there is something, anything other than friendship between these two, the story should proceed, at a slow pace; so that they can know themselves….that this is the path their hearts want them to follow. Are they experimenting??
I would not like for TPTB to start something, to then have either realize that she is actually attracted to men…..that their attraction for each other left them wanting….
We are always teased and then: nothing.
The best thing would be if Noah and Devon hooked up. Well, why not?? LOL.

I must say, though; something’s up with Tessa. I had a bad vibe since she entered the stage….as I have had it for Jordan…..do not trust them.

Rhythmic

Brad and Lucas are good actors, I think since ABC is a Disney owned networked they wimped out! That sucks because we NEVER see them now on screen! We are stuck with Jordan and Nina! SNORING!

I hope Tessa and Mariah are a couple. I love Mariah on the front burner and it FINALLY makes Tessa interesting!

As far as Devon and Noah being a couple, I’ve seen more romantic sparks fly from and elderly couple kissing on the park bench!

I keep remembering when Adam (played by Michael Muhney) kissed a young male lawyer trying to pretend to be gay so the lawyer wouldn’t take his case. I think it goes back to when Adam was blind and living at Victor’s place. Also didn’t Nena and Phillip Chancellor break up because he was gay? Does anyone remember this?

@Nikki.
Hi, there, Nikki,
Yes, I, also, mentioned Adam’s evil duplicity a few times. But, my friend; it wasn’t just a kiss…they had sex. This is the reason Engen ( the original Adam) was “let go”…. he refused to lock lips with another man and/or engage in any “sexual” scene, fake or otherwise.
I think that, at one point, Adam’s vision was restored, but said nothing, making everyone believe he was still blind? Not too sure.
As far as Nina and Philip, I don’t really remember…must look it up. I was young, LOL…..kind of fuzzy. I, actually, thought he hadn’t come out;….the reason why he ended up in Australia and allowed everyone to think he was dead.
Again, don’t take my word for it, though, because I may have it wrong. I, truly, am not sure….and, you may be right, Nikki.

If done right this could be good. BUT i dont think it will. I would have prefered Mariah to be given a better story. Sorry, i liked all the other soaps gay stories (except GL’s) but this one.. Meh… The Bold&B. Should have gone there with Zende and if Y&R really wanted to do a LGBTQ steoy it should have been with Kevin.

I’m with you, Ghlover. Can you imagine if Kevin and Daniel (Michael Graziadei) had one day realized that their friendship was much more? Wow, keep the local firefighters on standby!

For many years, people have been saying Kevin should be gay Yes, he did have chemistry with Chris McK, but just because GR is gay, doesn’t mean his character has to be. At least 3 of GH’s key male characters over the past 40 years have successfully played straight characters despite their real life same sex attraction. Similarly, neither Carnes or Shen are gay IRL and believably play Lucas & Brad as a married couple.

Soaps are for everyone and this old gram is very happy to see the possibility of love between same sexes on the soap I have watched from the beginning. If you are Christian and feel the need to speak out against it as so many have done maybe you should hold your tongue and ask yourself what would God do. I don’t care what your preacher preaches….what would God or Jesus do.

Well–
Do not judge, or you too will be judged.
For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

And that ^^ is from God….. lol so people shouldn’t be judging others or KABOOM! huh !

And—-
From Eric Clapton;
”before you judge me take a look at yourself ” …

Why should we stand back and not express our opinions, you have certainly expressed yours. We are expressing ours loud and clean by not watching this show since the queer scene and are also boycotting all advertisers and sponsors of the show. If you feel the same way I urge you to boycott them also and let our money speak for us.

Mary, I will never boycott love between consenting adults.

BYE MARY. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out. I’m sure your fat bum would break it anyway.

Good idea to boycott! I have stopped watching.

Mariah and Tessa kiss and way too many freak-out..
It is no big deal, it is 2017 not 1980 and they would be quite a good couple.
What is the big deal???
Soaps need need to advance into the 21st century,

I have said it a 10000 times; the soaps need to get out of the 80’s and to do so they need young writers that won’t feel stifled to write a same sex couple.

I’m straight and I feel Mariah and Tessa would make for a good story if it is written well, or the writing could be a disaster-
the writers need to be tuned into 2017.

Hey Su…the writers are writing the stories It’s a part of the audience that still has problems with it. Same issues we have in real life…from gay marriage to transgender in the military to serving gay people in restaurants, etc. So many different reactions, beliefs. Frustrating and infuriating, yes. But that’s why the world will never agree on anything. Unless we subdivide into groups with the same mindset..comprised of all religions, races, sexual preference, etc who don’t have a problem with different choices, beliefs, preferences, etc. Until then we’re always going to deal with close-minded people. Hopefully we’ll just continue to be inclusive regardless until/if the rest of society catches up.

I agree 100%!!

su, I totally agree with you. Soaps can’t succeed, if they stay stuck in the past. However, as Michael mentioned, if this was written by Sally Sussman and Kay Alden, who have since left the show, will the storyline continue?

hi Lew..
Or, perhaps it was by the new co-head writer Chris, his idea his input for a modern story.
I’d put my bet on Chris as the one behind the Tessa and Maria story..

All for it ,its about time.

I did not care for Mariah for quite awhile. Especially when Kevin came into the Passkey money and she expected him to just hand some over to her. I have come to adore her, and this storyline. I am enjoying watching Mariah find her way, her place in life and Genoa City, making new friends, falling in love and wanting to be loved and not second in line for that love and affection. So many negative comments -and the ones that this is not realistic or somehow this is forced or-whatever- I beg to disagree entirely. This has been-in my opinion-extremely well-crafted and thought out and both actresses have been knocking it out of the park and I am delighted. I look forward to more of this story unfolding. I have been bored and disappointed the past few months and find many things odd- What about Dina- are they backing off some type of dementia or alzheimer’s story because they have decided to keep her on the show? If so, great, but I would appreciate the whole Graham mystery nonsense cleared up-I don’t see him as a villain, he is very easy on the eyes and I would like to keep him around-he does seem 40ish to me and Gloria-whom I have also come to enjoy-when she is not painted as a clown but as a mature woman seeking to get her share of love and money. Maybe Graham prefers older women-and in that case, even more to my liking. Jack and Nikki in the cabin-not interesting to me and yes, someone is playing peekaboo -probably Victor’s detective-but not really interesting. Victoria now a dual-identity? Well. any other identity she could assume would be a welcome relief. If Sally Sussman is responsible for the current stories- have to give her some credit, and Kay Alden as well- the whole behind-the-scenes story we are not privy to seems much more interesting than many parts of the show. I am excited to see what Mal will do- I love Bold and Beautiful and that is one man’s vision and writing- maybe that will be good for Y&R as well- I don’t know the man in the slightest, but he seems quite charming and wanting the best for the show. I love how some on the show always rush to kiss up to whatever new regime takes over. Anyway, love Mariah and Tessa and best to Mal Young in his helming the ship and bringing us a great show. Thanks.

I like what you said, Michael, about the show being in step with the times we live in and showing all types of people. Also would like to see more of Ravi-the character is great and the actor as well and he is always being overlooked and should not be at all. Shame that Ashley can’t have some love and laughter as well.

I couldn’t have said it better myself Maureen. I was getting bored with Y&R as of late and I just happened to catch Friday’s show. I can’t wait to see how this story plays out. If they foll8w through on this, I wonder how Devon and Noah will react? As the saying goes, tune in tomorrow. On a side note I am loving B&B right now. I hope they keep Wyatt and Katie together. They have great chemistry in my opiion. And if they marry, Brooke amd Bill womt just be his father and step-mother, but his brother and sister-in-law as well. Only in the world of soap operas

I agree, Maureen, albeit this storyline gives me the creeps. Ashley needs a man, not someone who still eats strained foods, LOL.
If anything comes out of Ravi and Ashley going off into the woods together, she will eventually regret it.
Oh, yeah, it’s excrutiatingly inebriating, at first, I am sure. But, Ashley will wake up one morning, eyes wide-open, instead of eyes wide-shut, as they are right now.
I hope she is not hurt by this fling….we all know it will come to an end before it even starts.
I just get so annoyed, Maureen, when everyone around Ashley is cheering her on. Oh, for Petey sakes….these writers cannot be serious. If my mother showed any interest in someone the same age as my brother ( if she were not still married to my father, LOL) I would give her a piece of my mind and tell her to cut it out and come to her senses.
So, this story is unrealistic and depraved, in my opinion.

I think it’s Graham watching Jack and Nikki at the cabin and the photos are going to be part of some blackmail scheme (a nod to the show’s history when Jack and Jill were having an affair at the cabin and Kay snapped photos of them).

As for the Dina story, I think the story is progressing pretty realistically — I don’t think anyone would automatically jump to the conclusion that their estranged parent has dementia/Alzheimer’s when they haven’t seen that parent for the better part of two decades. I think this story is going to play out as part educational and part regaining a long absent parent physically only to lose them all over again mentally.

The Victoria story is the one I am most curious about — is she succumbing to the pressure of being the daughter of a powerful man she can never measure up to and developing an alternate personality (which was one of the many explanations for Viki’s DID on ONE LIFE TO LIVE) or has the combination of the pressures at work and the bump on the head turned her into a nymphomaniac?

Perhaps, you are right, Alan; that is, Dina not suffering from the onset of Alzheimer’s. She does display symptoms of the disease, though.
Nonetheless, I don’t think she is depressed, as Ashley believes, either. Why the mood change from one second to the other? She went to the mall. Apparently very unusual—I understand that, as I, personally never go to the mall, LOL. This ‘stepping out of order’ is very telling. If neither of these “things” are the issue; then, what ails her? I do believe it’s psychological—perhaps, deep down she’s not only angry with herself, but also at Graham for possibly having forced her into selling her life away—Mergeron.
I think she just feels useless….as many elderly people do. They do not feel needed. Out of sync.
Dina’s every fiber breathed “work”. Without it she seems to be lost—thus, the excursions to the mall, buying things (juicer) that a woman of her status would never use.

As far as Victoria…I feel badly for her. Phyllis is back to being Phyllis…of old. The big B.
Also, there is the possibility that Victoria has been misdiagnosed, and, indeed, has a brain tumor? I hope not, but maybe?

The minute I saw that I shot it off and will not go back unless the story line is stopped.

AGREE……CALL IT WHATEVER YOU WISH….I WILL SET THE RECORDER FRO OW NOW ON. THESE FOUR CHARACTERS ARE BORING AS HELL…MEANING THE TWO WOMEN, DEVON AND NOAH….Y&R is HORRIBLE RIGHT NOW.

You are not alone. The comments on facebook were overwhelmingly negative. I have no doubt that CBS is getting a lot of angry calls and angry letters this weekend. MAB was planning on a Phillip and Rafe romance in 2010 but the viewer feedback was very negative so it never got off the ground. Y&R seems to have a more older traditional fanbase cause you never see such venom and outrage when GH and DOOL had gay romances. I can’t tell you how many people have been saying they will never watch again since Thursday afternoon. No way in the world is Mariah and Tessa story gonna last long. Micheal Logan already reported CBS is very skittish about this. You will be able to watch again soon.

Really? Why are people partying like it’s 1959?
It’s beyond depressing to think folks are clutching their pearls over a same sex kiss. What a bunch of backward longing bigots.
This kiss upsets them but not Victor orchestrating Phyllis’s redundant rape after he put a dangerous criminal in her bed?

I hope so. Its amazing how a show like this has avoided this for so long. Its like Y&R was pretending gay people only exist when casually mentioned as an afterthought. I hope they do this right!

You hit the key point, Robert. “Do this right”. There’s nothing else to it.
Obviously, not every viewer will be happy/comfortable with the notion. But, as su said, this is our world now, our reality. It has always “existed”—-just hush-hushed, behind closed doors ( or shall I say, closet?).
It’s not as if homosexuality has just appeared out of this air. It has been among us as long as there have been humans, and then some….look onto the animal kingdom….or the Spartan military—-homosexuality was actually encouraged in ancient Greece.

I have come to realize in this day and age if somebody has an issue with gay and use jesus as an excuse to ridicule same sex relationships, its usually because they are dealing with there own homosexual tendencies,,,to hide who they really are,,,But thats just my opinion.people with extreme hate against homosexuals and call themselves one of gods children no nothing about the good guy up above,,,love is what its all about ,,,,unconditional love,,,,nothing more,,so for me bring it on y and r,,,bring it on…

Absolutely, randy. The reason why I questioned ( above) who the real ‘sinner’ is? The homosexual or the bigot?

Well the Almighty God hates homosexuality so that makes him a bigot.

Go Tessa and Mariah! !!! I love to watch slow burner romances.

I just want to see a good story, and Mariah and Tessa do have a warm connection. And I am interested where it could go. However, I did like Mariah with Kevin…this relationship also seemed natural, if not reciprocal. Same possible thing with Mariah and Devon…but she’s not sure Hillary is out of his heart and mind. So is the Mariah/Tessa relationship real, or just a insecure reaction to how Mariah feels?

When looking at the history and staple of soaps, the boy/girl stories mostly never seem to work out so well, for long. So whether it’s transgender’s in the military, gays coming out , etc., if soaps are to be contemporary seems reasonable Y&R should explore their stories.

… and it seems to me because of Mariah’s prior abuse at the hand of cult leader Ian, she has lost a sexual connection to men. Tessa is safe.

Good point Helen. I had forgotten about Ian and the affect he could have on Mariah’s future relationships.

I think it should be view like any other story line on a soap, if you like it watch it, if you don’t turn the channel or fast forward it. I don’t believe in censorship. It is fiction and if your objection is based on morality then you shouldn’t be watching story lines involving infidelity, murder or lying etc… basically you shouldn’t be watching any soap.

BINGO!

Very true! ITA. An audience that “judges” is really hurting the remaining soaps.

For me it’s simple: The two actresses have amazing chemistry and the characters have a much better connection with each other than with their boyfriends. That kiss was hot and loving. I’m begging Sony/CBS/Y&R to not bow down to the bigots and continue with this long overdue story!!

Why does this show have to initiate a same gender story with a well established character who audiences came to believe was straight and who’s played by someone long time fans identified with as a child actor in one of YR most iconic stories. To me: this is a recipe for failure and rejection by fans (liberal and conservative alike). The Kay/Joanne plot was horrendous too. Kay was straight, period. Joanne was too and one was alcoholic and one battled depression and weight. Bill Bell Sr. gets an F for that plot turn with the kiss. That wasn’t a gay story. It was a homophobic story told by a California republican (Bell() who knew gay dress designers and hair stylists but didn’t want to create a true gay character who was happy, adjusted. Shame. They’re still getting it wrong.

Mariah is probably sexually fluid. Meaning she has no sexual preference, be it man or women.

Hey, tony,
What a great point you make. I had not even considered that.
I see what you mean. It’s not the potential gay storyline to which you object. It’s the protagonist representing the role–Mariah. We have come to love her as she is. Why change that?
I know it’s difficult to separate Cassie and Mariah, since these characters are represented by child-actress, Camryn—makes sense.
However, we must remember that Mariah is not Cassie. We still do not know all of Mariah’s past—she’s more or less a new character. But, I get exactly what you are saying. Some of the fans are disappointed? It feels as though this story is just thrown in there without thought.
Thing is, I felt the vibe from Tessa ( do not like her, not because of this, of course, but because I think she has had a negative aura/agenda)from the get go. Did not get that from Mariah. There was never any hint. But, as I said, we really do not know her.
We will see how it plays out. Hopefully with sensitivity and dignity for our gay/lesbian community. It’s only right.

If AMC successfully made Erica Kane’s daughter a lesbian, why can’t Y&R do this with Mariah?

I hope they to take it anybever would only bring the down

Well, I for one, LOVE this couple! The reason it feels new to me is that the attraction seemed to slowly evolve from their friendship. This is what happens to straight couples as well as to gay/lesbian couples.
Too often the soap writers decide that they want to write a gay story and they kind of force it upon viewers. These type of stories tend to not be character driven but plot driven ( cause driven?). A good example of the aforementioned is the Lucas/Brad story on GH, That couple just came out of nowhere and was force fed to the viewers with no follow through. It was cause driven and never felt real or authentic.
Tess and Mariah have a really interesting dynamic and the actresses seem to be make the other up their game in the acting department. I mean, you can see the confusion washing over their faces and they show you, don’t tell you how they are feeling.
So I say yes, keep up the great writing and please have some follow through. Once poor Bianca Montgomery came out of the closet she was denied a love life. Biance was a lesbian, not a nun taking a vow of chastity for heaven’s sake!

PS. I did get a chuckle when it occurred to me that Noah could say,”My big sister hit on my girl friend!”

Or Sharon saying to Mariah. Why are you taking your brother’s girlfriend away? You know how much trouble he has getting girls, and then holding onto them, but at least we know, she isn’t after your money.

Harry…I loved your post until I got to the Poor Bianca part. Denied a love life?? She had flings or relationships with Maggie, Frankie, Lena, Reese, Marissa, and others I may be missing. She had NO shortage of women in her life!

Jovin, you forgot Zarf, LOL….the bizarre, rock star who was biologically male, but felt he was a woman. I liked that storyline….I liked Zarf…too bad, it all ended…poof…

I guess that was the first introduction ( in soaps? Maybe?) to transgenders. I would love to have Zarf back—Zoe!!

So everybody automatically thinks someone cares my problem is CG was a great young actress in the show but she does not have chemistry with a cat anymore so I do not care one way or the other . The show is now callled the Victoria &Billy hour yawn

I agree, it is the “Young and Victoria” show! I FF through all of her scenes, especially with FAKE Billy!

Hi Tim I had to laugh at what you said. If you FF through the Victoria scenes, not to mention the commercials, then you must get 15 minutes of Y & R!

I disagree. Call me a bigot or whatever but I don’t want to watch this, and I don’t want to hear the applaud about how progressive and noble it is.

You’re not a bigot for feeling the way you do. But don’t begrudge me, I love Tessa and Mariah’s budding romance.

TOTALLY AGREE….THANK YOU ASHLEIGH…..

Please stick to your values it makes you who you who you our never be ashamed of your beliefs and I will souuport you keep the faith! CG just does not play a romantic leas no matter who it is

What Lou Pikes said, Ashleigh. You are not a bigot for feeling as you do. Your opinion.
Personally, to me a bigot is one who is very vociferous about his/her bashing and name-calling. You are not that…I have interacted with you before….you are always very respectful and kind.
The holier-than-thou hypocrite who spews trash in the name of Jesus, is the true definition of bigot, in my book. If we are to speak the name of the Lord in vain, then we should know that Jesus/God loves everyone—even gays.
I am a Christian, straight woman, but I do not point fingers and judge…..what I am or believe does not make me better than the next person, gay or otherwise. I live and let live.

I am a Christian, so won’t be watching anymore. I’m not judgmental but there is already too much sex on TV! Amen

I’m sad to hear you won’t be watching Y&R anymore.

hi Bev ..
No worries, Soaps do not have sex in them..
Soaps trick some people into believing sex happened, it did not.
And bare backs is a trick to make some believe characters are naked, they are not.

Kiss is not sex– heck soaps don’t even have/show touching, old fashioned word, petting (ahha petting like cats, what lol) and no moaning in pleasure is ever heard, anyways soaps do not do sex..
It’s safe for you to still watch ..

LOL, su….we must be a pretty naive bunch if we think sex happens during a love scene on soaps…. too funny. I assume sometimes there’s a natural attraction and reaction for some actors, however, they do not “fall” into their instincts on stage. LOL.
I think the idea of having sex is what bothers some people—-they are very well aware what’s going on—not “real” sex. I do not think that’s permitted. It’s a soap, not porn. LOL.
Have you ever watched reruns of “I Love Lucy”? Desi and Lucy were married in real life; yet, on the show, they slept in separate, twin beds. I think the “Stevens” family ( Bewitched) was the first TV couple to have shared the same bed.
This, too, shall pass—it is the natural modern ‘order’ of things. Some are not ready for it—and, some of those ‘some’, never will be.
We’ve come a long way, yet, more than just many, still do not accept inter-marriages; either for race, color, faith etc.

But you’re OK with the lying and cheating and murder on the show. Okay. Makes sense – not.

If you believe your Christian faith means you shouldn’t be watching a same-sex relationship story on Y&R, however did you justify watching Cane’s adultery or Lily’s adultery or … the list could go on and on. I find it odd that so-called “Christians” can’t tolerate this story but anything else on their list of sins seems to get a pass on the daytime soaps.

pls…give me a break.
so called ” christians” use their faith to mask there own personal hatred of people that dont share their same beliefs
im christian too but my version includes love, acceptance and forgiveness of people that are different than me. u kno…kinda what jesus stood for and preached
go y n r ! thank you for finally showing characters that represent what a huge core of the audience is made up of. characters that are coming to terms with same sex feelings despite the possible discrimination of society such as case in point the ignorant person im replying to

I see Bev’s point. There is a difference between a homosexual kiss and reading lines about an affair. There’s also a difference between the way it will be portrayed. An affair will lead to Cane’s downfall, whereas a homosexual relationship will be applauded. That right there is what makes the difference to me. I can sit munching popcorn and say “Uh oh, Cane’s gonna get it….” but the minute Sharon or anyone else speaks out about what Mariah and Tess are doing, they’ll be the horrible villain like the girl who had the sex change’s dad on B&B. I don’t like that and it’s not ok. People may see my opinion as closed minded or homophobic, but I would never treat a gay person as anything less than a beautiful creation of God. It isn’t what God intended, but He and I still love them just the way they are. Not going to say it’s ok though.

Well I wear my bracelet ebery dar believe dodo not be ashamed this storyline has nothing to do for me against a female relationship neither actress has the chemistry to sell the story

Just realize you won’t ever work in Hollywood! Lol

But most Christians I know seem to think everything is SEX: A certain look, a brush of the hand, a kiss, for example, etc. Sex is SEX. I’m more concerned with excessive violence on TV than a little flirting or a kiss here or there. Soaps have always pushed the boundaries (entertaining while addressing social issues), but much of the audience is ‘judging’ so hard now that it’s literally killing our last few remaining soaps. I watch soaps for entertainment (and if I learn something, great), I don’t watch to further my religion because soaps are NOT a religious medium as we all know full well when we turn them on. Watching a same-sex couple will not impede my religion or beliefs. Inner beliefs go much deeper than a TV show or even entertainment, at least they should; judging everyone and everything gets really tiring after a while and actually goes against what we are taught to believe: Thou shalt NOT judge. . .

please don’t argue with CG she has been given a script I adored her as a child she just can’t sell romance for me but that’s me

Mathew, nicely stated. My mother prayed the rosary twice a day and claimed her faith was bigger than any church. She loved and welcomed all. When her nephew came out she helped steady her brother to accepting his son.

In these ways I’m proud to follow her footsteps.

It’s a TV show and young folks feel vastly different than those who are 20/30/40 years older. For our shows to survive they need to attract new viewers.

I remember folks saying they’d boycott AMC for stupid storylines and failed regimes. How’d that workout?

Keep watching. There’s always a storyline that has no appeal even in the best of times

Oh Bev, admitting you are a Christian is just as bad as admitting you are a conservative! I support you and god bless you for being honest.

Jesus said to love thy neighbor as one’s self. He also said let he who is without sin cast the first stone. When even the pope has said “who am I to judge?” We need to realize there are much bigger concerns than two girls kissing on a soap opera. Jesus, who was friends with Mary Magdalene probably wouldn’t have had an issue with that.

lolll…dear god spare me
hilarious!
hey ashleigh, u have the telephone # to gods direct line?
I love how you speak on behalf of him, u guys must be real tight
well im tight with god too , and speaking as a homosexual myself, me and god forgive you too inspite of the fact that you completely missed his teaching not to judge anyone and love thy neighbour. oh and by the way way pls dont compare two same sex people kissing to someone who has an extramarital affair especially since if you really wanna get technical adultery is a major sin in the ten commandments

I love these two together! Mariah was a snooze until she sparked chemistry with Tessa. I call them Messa.

The writers don’t know what to do with her, just like the messed up with Sharon. Her character is constantly being unmoored. She was great with Kevin but that went nowhere. She had a great rivalry with Hillary but that’s been dropped. Now we’re giving bisexuality a turn at bat. (Sigh)

They do have chemistry. So of course they’ll change direction once more in six months.

I saw it coming, but because I record, found it not building. I liked Kevin and Mariah. I think Mariah is a very good actor and worry this is slow travel to an exit. How about it was a trial of sorts. I found no chemistry twix the two; just scenes that made it look like chemistry. There is a difference.

Dina,: I do want to know. Alzheimer’s disease may present as normal one day and not the next. I assume she made a very bad investment

Over the years of watching the program, one couple seemed to be stable. I cant find it now, and it is a mistake.

Anything I don’t want to see , I fast forward; plain and simple.

I’m fine with Y&R going there! Soaps need to come into the 21st Century and tell current storylines if they are to continue. Old school slow writing no longer works; most viewers want faster pacing and more current (modern) storylines not old tired, rehashed stories from decades ago (we have reruns for that!)

I have been wanting a gay storyline on Y&R for a long time now.But I feel they really missed the boat by not going there with Noah. Then again they missed it with Kevin and Alex. But the best would have been Kevin and Harding. Nothing aganst a lesbian storyline. I just feel they want to play it safe, like the Otallia story on GL. I appluad GL for trying , but never felt it was real. Kevin would be the best person to have a gay story becase GR would play it with honesty and realism. I dont feel the vibe between Mariah and Tessa , at least not yet.

Adam, I have always loved Kevin, but I think a lot if people would like seeing him in a homosexual role, simply because he is married to another man in real life, and has a child. I think if he became gay, after being with Chloe, it wouldn’t be that hard to understand. She’d make someone question their own sanity, as well as sexuality!

Otalia made me nuts. The trajectory of those characters didn’t lead to that place.

You are wisely looking at who would fit. You show better thought then the writers who shoehorn characters to places they don’t belong.

BTW, I thought a bi Adam would have worked

I just don’t get what the big deal is. Two girls kissed Yippi. If you think about it for a moment Tess although we don’t know her past we do know she said she never had friends let alone a best friend. Mariah when she came back to town she was a mess, tormenting Sharon etc. and she had no friends. When Sharon tried to hug her she stood like a tin soldier now she feel something for Tess. She’s not dumb she sees how Devon still looks at Hillary she wants to be loved.I will say I feel sorry for Noah. It seems every time he finds a girlfriend, he loses her. They finally got Sharon out of that pity losing stage and now it looks like they may make Noah the pity party guy. Jack and Nikki is just a walk around the same block.

Right, Nikki? Gosh…the sky is not falling. They kissed; they may become a couple…fine. My objection is Tessa. I may be wrong, but my instincts are in an uproar….telling me for this potential relationship to come to a screeching halt. She’s bad news. How does she know Crystal? Are they both ‘filles de joie”?
I hope Mariah does not get dragged through Tessa’s caca.
Jack and Nikki make me sick—to me that’s worse than a shared kiss between two same-sex individuals…..

Hi there Celia, I agree but because of all the people making to much out of this I think there going to kill the story line. My take on it (JMO) Tessa and her sister ran away from home maybe an abusive family. I think Crystal is her little sister. I think they’ll play her story out and once her music starts to make money she’ll take her little sister and move on (very much like that singer Devon hired way back when from American Idol) That will be the end of the relationship. Hope I’m wrong because I really like Tessa now and I didn’t at the beginning. Now as for Jack and Nikki they make me ill to a point of FF through it all. These two are acting like high school kids with their flirting around

What a fantastic premise, Nikki. I think you’re right. Why else would Tessa be so worried and distracted?—-worried about her sister.
I just wonder why introduce Tessa and Crystal. I had mentioned a theory; that is, bringing a real issue to the table. Prostitution of young people—both female and male. It is a big problem everywhere.
But, why Tessa? Did she escape and leave her sister behind? Whatever it is, I always felt an eerie vibe from Tessa.
I yhink you are, also, right about the relationship. Unfortunately, homosexual relationships do not last very long on Y&R. It will be crippled before developing strong legs.

Gay storyline would be OK but this one seems forced and out of left field. Like the writers woke up one morning decided they should do a gay story and threw a dart at the cast list.

This could explain why Mariah has absolutely ZERO chemistry with any man on the show! Honestly, I just don’t care for either character.

I agree, dmr. While gay relationships on soaps etc., do not bother me in the least…not one bit, …..I accept them, unlike others, who merely tolerate, or tsk, tsk their way through life.
However, these girls do not seem to stir any emotion for each other, or their boyfriends. My opinion.
I did like Mariah with Kevin. LOL…ironic, isn’t it? Greg being gay in reality, and all….
Tessa simply rubs me the wrong way—no pun intended. HaHa!

I love Mariah and this kiss finally makes Tessa interesting! I suppose the older generation of Y&R fans will disapprove, I get it but the world evolves and things change. There are many reasons to cover a childs eyes when a soap is on TV, not just a same sex kiss. Lets see where this goes, its something different. I would rather watch MESSA kiss than to see ONE more scene with SICTORIA in it! PLUS, if Mariah and Tessa hook up. less screen time for the “Wet paint Drying” duo, Devon and Noah!

LOL.Great post, T.
When I mentiond Devon and Noah as a couple, I was being sarcastic…I guess it wasn’t caught.
These two, especially Devon, has chemistry with no one….expressionless—-all we see is his lips move.
Noah could be a great “romanceur” , if he just acted a little more in line with his generation. No charisma….either of them!!!!
As far as Tessa and Mariah? I don’t know what to think. Not because of a lesbian relationship….just because I do not trust Tessa and I would not like for Mariah to be hurt, again. I love Mariah—a good person/character/actress. I would feel the same way for a straight couple.
Their ” gravitational pull” is too new—I need time to feel them.
I must be the only one whom Tessa rubs the wrong way. I think she is using Mariah….don’t know why; yet.

Who needs chemistry when you’re a billionaire! LOL

I like the actor who plays Noah. I think he is expected to act older than he does and is put into Newman situations that are more for Nick. Noah needs to be young and full of fire and push buttons. Like when they went to that music festival and Tessa uses the Newman name. Noah said he had never done that before. Do it dude! Be a dick! Tessa, no I’m with you, she has an agenda but she became more likable hanging with Mariah. She will hurt Mariah, its a soap C!

Noah Part II Besides making him into something he is not, thats what they did with the Winters kids. They aged them way to old! The girl can act, the boy is horrible BUT either of them should have been casted. Too old! I would have JUST made them 13 years old. One, because Cane and Lilly are not that old, two, lets tell a story of two kids, entering their teens who idolized their dad and now he is a scum bag! Let this hurt these kids, affect their schooling and have them act out immaturely, not knowing how to handle daddy cheating on mommy! These two playing Charlie and Maddie have had very little emotional feelings expressed! Charlie is running around a pool looking like a mass murderer and Maddie is ready to jump Reed’s guitar! And Reed, ah forget it!

@Mo.
Well, Mo….I do….it’s like this:…. If I felt no sexual twinge, or love for a guy; all the money in the world would not attract me to him. He couldn’t touch me with a ten-foot pole. DOUBLE LOL.

@k/kay.
Good one, Kay. A love triangle….Nick, Chelsea and Noah. Interesting. Intriguing, actually….the perfect cure for the one-dimensional Noah….not to speak of all the drama. Chelsea seems the type, anyway.
It may still happen…never know.

The show is living up to it’s title. Young people are more restless today and indeed open to different experiences. It’s about time the #1 soap (ratings wise) explores this.

@Timmm unfortunately the only person the character of Noah has on screen was with his mother Case! If Bill Bell was writing it still he would done a triangle with Chelsea Nic & Noah he lived that stuff!

Loved! Ok no more posting while ridin in the car!

Oh, I agree, T….
Robert/Noah, for one thing, is too old to play Nick’s and Sharon’s child.
But, to me, he is such a throbbing sore—I bet he’s never stuck his hand in the cookie jar. And, I’m not so sure it’s even the writing. As I said, he’s too old for the role; thus, he acts his age….Newman or not. I think he simply holds himself back, to fit the Newman protocal? You’re probably right about that.

Nick and Sharon has always been my favorite couple, Timmmy……I was sooo young ( stars in my eyes) when they were, sort of, star-crossed lovers. He, from a prominent, affluent family; she, from the “wrong” side of the tracks, as it were. Yet, so was Nikki. As hypocritical as all heck…..the way Nikki used to treat Sharon always irritated me….her nose up in the air, as if she were the scion/product of some noble family. Nikki has come a long way ( …love Melody, nothing against the actress….her acting is impeccable).
Nick did not stick with the Newman code of “ethics”, which is laughable in itself, considering Victor’s evil deeds. Nick acted his age….at all times…got into a bunch of messes, if you recall.
But, Noah is just there.
As far as the Winters kids? What can I say….the girl is a brainiac, but not interesting—too placid. However, she has potential. It’s ok to be that smart, but have a little oomph to balance the personality….been there, done that. I like the fact that she maintains her innocence and integrity—but, be spontaneous and fun, do something with the hair and clothes….dresses like a nun for a kid. I don’t think TPTB know what a brainiac really looks like. She is represented as the stereotypical version. It “ain’t” necessarily so, T.
These writers, and everyone else should jump off that frame of mind. Give the girl a ‘look’ other than the studious thick glasses and demure clothing. Seriously, what kid her age, specially today, dresses like that?!?! Hmmmm.
The Winters’ boy is just an annoying dud…..a “noodge”…. but, he seems to be coming around where Reed and his sister are concerned.
Too old, as you say, for Lily, anyway.
One good thing. Cane is out of her life. Or is he? Bring Joe back….Boy, those two had a hot , hot something going on!!!! Sigh…..

Protocol–spelling….
My point, T, is that the writing should be more up to date eith these teens….as su keeps saying; bring in younger writers.
Seriously, the writing is good, but “they” need to step-up some of these archaic theories.
If I get bored, imagine teens. I can tell you that my nieces love soaps when the stories appeal to them…..and the boys, when they are bored, will watch, LOL.
And having two siblings in College, students still watch soaps between classes. Soooo…..the writing is key in keeping with the times and in keeping them interested,

I’ve always said, Nick and Sharon are the next Victor and Nikki, they will ALWAYS end up together! I like that. I love Sharon!

Maddie is okay. Yes, she needs to lighten up BUT she is with this dude named Reed and he sucks! I dont want to attack the actor, lets just say he is wrong for the part and he is too old to be Reed. Y&R just had to have a summer teen scene!

Hey Cee Cee, one thing that seems to get lost at Y&R is how much Jason Thompson has failed as Billy. He is handsome and can act but he is horrible as Billy. If Billy Miller walked in tomorrow I would be so much more excited about anything Billy is wrapped up in. Jason is a name and I guess the executives chalk that up as a win but he has played the part long enough and it does not work! He doesnt look like any version of Billy and he is always talking in a low, smooth-like DJ voice. It is annoying! Bye love!

Yes!!!! I love Sharon; I love Nick ( except when he acts like a wise-arse, above reproach). He’s no slouch, either. Hot !!
Of all the women in GC, why Chelsea? Ughhhh!!!!
I hope Sharon and Nick will eventually find each other, again. Scotty’s ‘gotta’ go. I was so wrong about him…not my cup o’ tea. I can’t figure him out….I am always for the underdog. And, right now, Nick takes the title.
I do not like the irritating smug look on Scotty’s face….he is relishing in how Victor is playing with his son’s life.
Again, everything revolves around Victor. How does a father do that to his own child? No matter what, as a parent, I could never betray my kids that way—well, they’re still little, but, you know what I mean, T.
Double ugh!!! Jason Thompson. Oh, Lordy Lord—sick of his Billy and sick of Gina’s Phyllis. They are both pathetically pushing it. Me no like. Unlike yourself, I do not find Jason T handsome. I am very picky. A man needs to have a strong chin…jawline; anything else shows weakness. LOL.
You know, T? I wonder if Billy M came back , would he be Billy Abbott of old? Would he have lost his mojo?
Gnite, my Timmmy.

Oh, yes, Maddie is ok….it’s TPTB. Why are they portraying her as a teen living in the 40’s? Even the girls during the 50’s era were more ’emancipated’ than that!!!! Her clothes are in complete contrast of a fifteen-year old’s way of dressing; regardless of how brainy she is. Not the norm.
I don’t mind Reed…..just a little wishy-washy—
I’d like to see Maddie do a one-eighty….toss the glasses; let her ‘hair doen’, as it were and act her age—-nothing ‘bad’, just not do demure.

Now, I did mention that Abby’s new boyfriend ( forgot his name; that’s how insignificant he is to me) was up yo no good. No one pays attention to what I say, LOL.
Seriously, I think he’s in this sex-trafficking/prostitution ring up to his eyeballs. Whatever he has going on ( online) involves this felonious, obnoxious activity.
Somehow, as I mentioned way back when, Tessa knows him—she knows exactly what the heck is going on. Perhaps she came to town to ‘shop’ and recruit potential kids. She could be forced to do so. Someone has somthing over her head.

Victoria is acting very irrationally. Nonetheless, this behavior of femme fatale/vamp is not for her—not one sexy bone in her body. Again, I say that there’s something physically going on with her, affecting her judgment. Her ears were ringing….Hmmmm. Tinnitus can sometimes be caused by a brain tumor. Didn’t we go through thst with Ashley, not too long ago?
I may be the only one, but I love Vic…dislike this role; this storyline….especially consorting with that guy. Reminds me of the Wolfman—eyebrows and all. Is he part of the ring, too? I don’t trust any of these new people, except for Ravi. Love him…but this Ashley thing is soooo demeaning for her. Makes her seem desperate. She gets more gorgeous with age. So, why Ravi? What’s it all about, Timmmy? LOL. Is it the fact that Ravi translates to comfy? I don’t know…I never was one to get into a storyline where one of the ‘partners’ is young enough to be the other’s child.
So, writers, nip this idiocy in the bud, now! Barf!!

Oh, by the by, T….when I first proposed that Tessa and Zack ( I think) knew each other because they almost appeared within a short span of time of each other; my theory was poo-pooed upon….. Can’t remember who blew me right out of the water, LOL……no matter, though…wether I’m wrong or a little close to the truth, I still believe in my theory.

I was liking Mariah with Devon and Tessa with Noah.

Why does this story line development rock the boat so? It seems organic and natural. Sexual fluidity seems to be part of young adult life today. It is not a knee-jerk plot twist out of B&B at least. I will be interested to see how it plays out, even if it is but a flirtation. I hold no hopes to current plot paths as we have this shift in writers.

I have enjoyed Y&R since the last writer switch before Christmas. It is not perfect but it is stronger than it has been in forever! Everyone’s ages are cloudy anymore but there are genuine nods to histories and character behaviors (even the most regrettable). I have come to love Y&R again and hope Mr. Young can continue to keep the serial strong, and clear from dopplegangers, wildly implausible resurrections, and (Sorry Juliet!) more baby drama.

I LOVE THE NEW AND IMPROVED SHARON!!!

Who loved the moment Paul and Lauren had at Crimson Lights last week with reference to their history and his always judgmental mother Mary Williams? SCORE!

Am curious to see how the sexual trafficking story plays as it has potential to shed light on an issue and involve many characters. I am ready for the Dina Mergeron drama to move forward.

Everyone is up and arms about that same sex kiss… Is anybody finding it difficult to see Lauren and Scott and mother and son?

I was not happy with the Kevin/Chloe story ending. Previous writers ruined Chloe and I do applaud the way the current time tried to redeem her. But it cost us Kevin!

GR is back taping on a recurring basis. Kevin’s story isn’t done yet.

its about time. I have followed this soap for years and everyone I know likes the versatility of characters. For some reason these two women play the part very well. Although they are in character they have a connection that is very believable and after all; thats what soap is all about. yes we like it and want it. Good to know our favorite soap is the first to take this leap and with two beautiful women.

After 37yrs of watching, i quit watching last week and removed it from my DVR. This isn’t my soap anymore. So long ✌

Now it looks like Tessa is going to move in with Sharon and Mariah. Oh Noah….

I HATED IT!!! I have been watching Young and the Restless for 43 years. And I was disgusted. I am so sick and tired of having this forced acceptant shoved down our throats! If I wanted to witness that type of activity I would just go to a gay bar. I shouldn’t have to see it in my own house!

Gay people exist and in America, will not hide in the shadows or closet anymore.

I’ve been to a lot of gay bars, and I don’t recall two women kissing. You might have a great time as there’s a lot of fun people hanging out. I’ve had conversations about soaps at these bars and even chatted with a long-time soap actor a little while back.

It is about time for Y&R to do justice to a gay story line! I am a 44-year-old gay man who’s been watching for 31 years, and I am thrilled to finally see characters from the LGBTQ spectrum being shown on Y&R. I just hope the suits at CBS and Sony have the courage not to acquiesce to the bigots who are spewing their hatred over this. If they want to turn it off, let them! There are a lot of viewers like me who have been quite unsatisfied for many years because people like me weren’t being represented on the show. So if the bigots want to throw their petulant temper tantrums and threaten to quit watching, then let them! They can be unhappy for a while. Gay people exist, bigots, whether you like it or not, and we have the right to be represented on the shows we support. You don’t like it? Bye, Felicia!

Hey Damien, yes, I read the Bible. That is my direct line to God. And I’m sorry that you feel that I’m being judgemental. Homosexuality is called a perversion in the Bible. Those aren’t my words, those are God’s. And Jesus would hang out with gay people, just as he spent time with Mary Magdeline. He would say “Go and sin no more.” Just as he said to the woman who was caught in adultery, and then he’d turn to everyone else and say “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.” As I said, I have no problem with the homosexual, I have a problem with the act. If a soap opera was writing that there is no pain in adultery and that it’s a noble beautiful thing, I would have a huge problem with it. Yes, adultery is sin, yes, homosexuality is a sin. Yes, being judgemental is a sin. Nobody is perfect and everyone is loved by God. I have gay friends, by the way. They know that I love them, but they know my beliefs, not because I cram it down their throats, but because I am open about my faith. Also, I got in the argument that you are presenting with a friend of mine who is a pastor who believes that someone who is gay won’t go to heaven. I believe that adultery and homosexuality are equal in God’s eyes, so he would have to apply that same logic to premarital sex and adultery. I believe they’re all wrong in God’s eyes, so I don’t do them. I try to do what the Bible says, and I fail all the time, but I try my best. If you think something is a sin in God’s eyes, ask for forgiveness and then keep doing it because “God forgives”, I don’t know that God considers that actually repenting. Just food for thought.

I respect your beliefs; your philosopphy, etc. Ashleigh. I respect everyone’s thoughts and ideologies.
However, there are many holes in the theory that God wrote the Holy Bible. Men wrote the Bible. God did not go around whispering in the prophets’ ears . My, my…..Sister Mary Margaret would fulminate me with one icy look, if she read this.
As a Catholic ( have so much religious education, that at one point, it was coming out of my ears) it was instilled into me that Catholicism is the one true religion.
Yes, this is what I believed until my brain began resisting that notion. I, also, realize that I am being blasphemous, as per my religion’s doctrine.
I am a Catholic and proud of being one….but, I am also, an independent thinker.
You see, Ashleigh, when one engages in the study of theology for a few years, in College, one comes out of it questioning ALL religions; all denominations. Confusion galore. One goes through her daily life, where the questions throb in her head overwhelmingly, until she reaches a certain peace in her maturity. Acceptance, not tolerance is the key. Unless one knows and loves ( as a friend….since childhood) a homosexual, I truly believe one will never know his/her heart. My son’s godfather is gay. I could not love him more. Other than my husband, and family, he is the shoulder who supports me through thick and thin. So, am I to believe he’s perverted? Someone with whom I played as a kid or who told me his inner secrets , who shared his tears, pain and disillusionment?
Hard to put these two conflicting thoughts together and sift any sense from the mystery of God’s creation. If we are created in His image, then He created the homosexual, as well.
I still believe in my religion, my God, my Lord, Jesus, but, there are those Catholics who steadfastly believe that only we will enter the ‘portals of heaven’…..in other words, everyone else will go to hell?
But, I understand. There will always be those who resist the ‘winds of change’.
Peace, Ashleigh. I do appreciate the power of your beliefs….that’s the way it should be. No one has the right to insult, castigate or deter you from what you hold dear in your heart, soul and mind.

Well, being somewhat an authority on sins and such matters…..

Did you ever stop to consider why, if my Former Employer allegedly had a big issue with homosexuality, why didn’t it make that Top 10 list that he faxed off to Moses on the granite slabs?

Or was it one of the other 5 of the original Top 15 that Moses dropped?

(sorry…. that was Mel Brooks, not the official Old Testament account)

It’s already become obvious the “characters” past occupation and suddenly a sister in the same line of work… And if a betting man, the obvious “man behind the scene” running the racket is Abbie’s new ‘NOT ON CONTRACT day player” whose name I can’t remember. D – for this plot..

I said this from the get-go. No one paid me no mind, John. LOL.

Why do you think The Guiding Light and As the World Turns went off the air?
I won’t watch the Young & Restless anymore and I have watched it since it came on the air. I have loved it and recorded it for years.
Pretty crappy for daytime TV

Stopped watching Days of our Lives and will stop watching Y& R if this storyline proceeds.

Twisted thinking amazes me. Christians watch soaps bc sin is not celebrated. Nobody accepts sins of rapists, adulterers, and murderers. So they wouldn’t accept homosexuality. Homosexuals and sympathizers have a right to watch whatever yhey want

I wish non homosexual sympathizers could watch what we want. That isn’t possible when the show changes. Make a new show for homosexuals and their sympathizers. And I promise not to insist they change it for me! Now that’s fairness.

I saw it obviously coming. The locked on eyes, for one. I’d like to see further development of this romance.

I hate the whole storyline with Mariah and Tessa. I will not watch. I’ve been a fan since show first aired, but will never watch agin. Just FYI.

This is 2018 same sex relationships are all around us. Why not show a true loving same sex relationship on “The Young and the Restless”. It’s part of the real world. If there are no same sex characters on your show, you’re not depicting a realistic fictional world. People are always nervous about what they don’t understand. Help them see a totally normal lesbian relationship between two women on the show. Many people only see same sex relationships on TV and film because those relationships are not part of their reality. Showing a strong, real, lasting relationship between two women, or men for that matter on your show, would help to educate those people who do not understand how two people of the same gender could have those feelings for each other. Take the opportunity to depict two women falling in love with each other in a completely real way. Rather than shying away from the idea, embrace it. Other shows have already taken the plunge. It’s time Y & R followed suit. We have legal gay marriage in the U.S. Why not let your show come out of the closet and examine characters who would most definitely be in a real Genoa City?

Please no same sex romance….Will lose this viewer who has been with you from the very first episode.

I think it is discusting and if they start bringing that kind of crap on the show they will have lost a viewer

Yeah… maybe they should make a conservative storyline where somebody falls in love with a blood relative. Or a sheep?

acho linda a historia de mariah e tessa torço pra esse casal fique firme até o fim.

I think the lesbian drama sucks. I think you need to move forward as the whole storyline is getting old and boring you need to move on

Breaking News

According to Deadline, Calabasas is said to be in the vein of primetime young teen and young adult soaps the O.C. and Beverly Hills 90210. The story follows “Via, a 16-year-old sheltered Midwestern Catholic school girl whose world is turned upside down when her family moves and she’s forced to transfer to the fast world of Calabasas High where nothing is as it appears and where everyone is trying to be someone else. It’s a place where dreams come true … but not without complications and sometimes unforeseen consequences.”

As fans of the Kardashians know, Kim and her family made the town of Calabasas a household and worldwide name. Kim being attached to this project helped make its sale. This marks her fourth project to sell since the writers and actors strikes concluded at the end of last summer.

Ellen Travolta Makes Another Return to General Hospital

If General Hospital’s Chase (Josh Swickard) and Brook Lynn’s (Amanda Setton) nuptials are on, you didn’t think Grandma Gloria Cerullo would miss out on the festivities, now did you?

Casting news from Soap Opera Digest reveals that Ellen Travolta is back taping scenes that will air the week of May 13th on the ABC daytime drama series.  When viewers learned that Carmine Cerullo, was also on his way back to Port Charles, now in the face and body of actor George Russo, it only made sense that Grandma Gloria would join Grandpa Cerullo. Look for them both mid-May.

As most people know, Ellen is the older sister to John Travolta. She first make appearances as Gloria back on GH in the mid-90s. Most recently, she returned to the Quartermaine mansion to meet up with daughter, Lois (Rena Sofer) and granddaughter Brook Lynn for Thanksgiving in Port Charles in 2023.  Michael Fairman TV interviewed Rena Sofer and Amanda Setton late last year where they shared what it had been liking working with Ellen, who remains very close to Sofer in real-life.

Amanda shared: “We fell in love immediately. What’s crazy is my maternal grandmother was Grandma Gloria. I had her till I was 30 and we were so close. She was really like a second mom to me. So, when I got this script and I’m reading “Grandma Gloria”, it was so bizarre. And then in meeting Ellen, she looks like my grandma – same haircut, same high cheekbones. It really did feel like I had a few days with my grandma. It was very, very special for me. Ellen is sweet, prepared, professional, talented and funny to boot. So, it was one of the best weeks I’ve had at work. I hope she comes back. My fingers are crossed.”

Now, we can’t imagine Brook Lynn and Chase’s wedding day to be smooth sailing, in fact, expect just the opposite, but could it be Grandma Gloria who is ultimately the hero or the calming voice of reason for any pre-wedding jitters? Stay tuned.

Days Of Our Lives

Kristian Alfonso Returns to Days of our Lives for Tribute to The Late Bill Hayes

After a few weeks of Days of our Lives fans being upset that Kristian Alfonso (Hope Williams) was not on the first list of initial returns for Doug Williams’ funeral and episodes honoring his portrayer, the late Bill Hayes, comes word that the popular star is back and taping scenes.

Kristian reported to work on the Peacock streaming soap opera on Monday, April 22nd. She shared how important it is for her to be back for this particular return to the show that made her a household name.

“My return is very bittersweet,” Alfonso told TV Insider,  “because it is the end of an era with Bill gone. So to return to Days is very sad. I am appreciative that they came to me to include me in their series of shows honoring Doug and I’m very happy to see everyone, but I’m entering the studio with a heavy heart.”

It was back in 1983 that Kristian first debuted as Doug’s daughter, and now 41 years later looking back at it, and her time with Bill Hayes is very emotional for her.

“I remember my first scenes with him/ He was very loving, very welcoming. That he was very talented and an incredible actor and an icon, that all goes without saying, but my personal relationship and my working relationship with Bill, it was home,” expressed Alfonso. “Doing the scenes with Bill, I felt like I was with my dad because there was so much warmth and reality.”

Alfonso did express some deep regret, in that she had wanted to work with Bill Hayes during her last appearance on the soap back in 2023, but according to the iconic actress, there was something in the works but it never materialized.  “I’m sad that I did not get the opportunity to do the storyline that Ron (Carlivati, head writer) had planned/ It was great; we returned to Salem to reunite with our families and I would have had father/daughter scenes with Billy. What Ron had written was beautiful and emotional and it was a fantastic story. I was 100 percent for it and the fans would have loved it.”

As for if Bo (Peter Reckell) and Hope will be back on-screen together anytime soon, Kristian would only say, “What I will say is don’t give up hope.” Doug’s passing and memorial episodes will stream later this year come late November into December.
