Four actors have been apparently shown the front door in the ever-changing face of the canvas of Days of our Lives.

This time, in a report from Daytime Confidential, Martha Madison  and Brandon Beemer are once again put as Belle and Shawn, as well as Marie Wilson as Summer, and Sal Stowers as Lani.  Madison confirmed her exit with a bittersweet tweet, “Au revoir Salem! #Leo #NineLives”

According to the item, Stowers was actually let go at the end of 2015, but because at the time DAYS was taping so far ahead she is still being seen on air at this time.

Obviously, part of the new DAYS head writing team of Ryan Quan and Dena Higley’s first order of buseinss had to be to take a look at the canvas they inherited under Josh Griffith, and make some decisions on the characters who’s storyline were lackluster.

DAYS viewership is once again down, after hitting a high note back in November of 2015, and then again in the first weeks of January of 2016.

So, what do you think about the upcoming exits of the reported actors and their characters of DAYS? Share your thoughts below!

New Ciara is awful, she should be cut.

YES YES YES

Yes, I agree, Kar.
What are they doing to Days? I love this show. I loved Will and Sonny….please come back.
So now that ‘they’ have zapped Paul’s brain, are they straightening him out? If TPTP do that, I will scream. I bet that when Paul is completely lucid, he will not be gay any longer. I hope I speak too soon.

I’m all for giving a newbie a chance to find her fit or interruption in a role. Unfortunately, new Ciara is not up to the task of this demanding role. She should be thanked for her time and politely shown the door.

Yes don’t mean to be unkind but that girl is awful and very unconvincing as the “more mature” ciara.

Yes agree she is awful and can’t act. My german Shepard dog, can act better. Lol

Absolutely agree, terrible actress. The storyline she was given is not up to her acting abilities and she is ruining it. Plus I hate the whole storyline anyline! Days should have left her and the other “kids” as kids!

I have said that from day one, and she is too inexperienced to handle such a serious and intense storyline.

Really sad that Sal Stowers leaving…saw potential in her role and character! Well Y&R should GRAB her for Devon, since Hillary’s true claws are OUT.

She needs to work on her acting. Character was not well thought out, add in that the person they cast can’t act and no wonder she didn’t catch on.

I really like Sal’s style, especially more than nuCiara and Joey. Check out Sal’s previous works!

Actually, she’s pretty good it’s the role that is awful and going nowhere fast. Sal Stowers needs to get in a night time series, she has potential and I think the show needs ethnic diversity.

This is sad news about Sal Stowers. I enjoyed her performance in the online All My Children. Why was this character brought to Days? Other than revealing who her family is, they haven’t done anything with her. Seems like such as waste to me. A waste of Sal Stowers time and talent. And a waste of money paying her salary since they weren’t going to do anything with her. Perhaps TPTB could have used that salary to build an office set so characters could discuss their troubles in private instead of in that damned park.

i agree with your post LLANVIEW .. Beautiful(literally)not basic regular same look of a soap chick on days… Beautiful woman of color at that, and gorgeous very pretty and she was a natural imho with handsome Brandon Beemer Shawn D and Lani are so cute on days, natural and have chemistry. I hope we see her on another soap then as she is clearly able to get another shot i believe on days or bold or y and r . I will enjoy SAL til’ she leave salem. No wonder why DAYS again are screwing up, would not surprise me,if the ratings continue to drop.

I’m not happy with Days of our live i am done I’m never watching this soap again
i can’t believe they did this yet again unbelievable

Really? You are quitting watching because some “new” minor unimportant characters with boring stories were fired?

OK

I know my favorite characters were dumped partly to make room for this bunch. And now these characters have to go bye bye? So many things are wrong with this show these days. NBC should pull the plug and let this show go before it really loses everyone’s respect.

So the Belle Sean Phillip triangle that has been a repeated failure failed again? I’m shocked said no one.

I don’t understand what Ken C is thinking. They take quality actors and stiff them with really sub par material. I’m as confused as anyone about what they are doing here. Other than the teens, there are capable actors sitting around waiting for something to do.

So, six months of teen daughter warbling before we sink this leaky boat and never speak of it again. Ugh.

Actually, Sal Stowers plays Lani not Cassandra.

I had watched DAYS since the 70s and they were like family. But after Hope was almost killed on her wedding night, beloved Bo died, Patch slept with Ava, Abby was kidnapped while pregnant, more violence, Hope shot Stefano, a forced Hope/ Rafe pairing, Jen became hooked on pills, Eric killed Daniel, and then (the last straw)…Ciara was raped….I had to stop watching.
I no longer make an attempt to catch the show.
I may turn it on for a few minutes but then turn it off.
it’s the MOST depressing and dark show on tv.

I liked Belle and Shawn’s return. I like MM with both JC and BB.
Sad to see them go. They were actually interesting, even tho they have a SORAS’d child. The teen scene is not cutting it, except for Joey.
I hope Claire leaves with Shawn and Belle. The teens get way too much screen time.

I also liked Lani. She was not forced on us and has been integrated into the cast. She’s a good actress.

Also sad to see Judi Evans and Wally Kurth taken off contract. I thought the Justin/ Adrienne/ Lucas triangle was great. But they only got a few minutes here and there. All are very talented. Watch GH put Wally back on contract again. Dillon just called Ned today on GH.

Days was so dear to my heart but this has been a necessary break up. I don’t watch soaps to become depressed. I’ve invested in the characters and storylines, but DAYS has not invested in its fans.

I saw no point in bringing Summer on. Have seen a few scenes with Marie Wilson and while I like the actress, I don’t like the character.
Why not bring Lisa Trusel back as Melissa and bring Melissa Archer back as Sarah this time? (DAYS loves to do give 1 actor/ actress multiple roles)

I saw great potential for the Lucas/Adrienne and Justin/Eve pairings. Too bad TPTB didn’t see it. I don’t know anything about the Sarah character you mentioned; but, Melissa Archer is a very talented and powerful actress. Giving solid material, she will deliver a great performance.

@mrsnoahdrake, I feel the same about the return of Belle & Shawn, including, the brief return of Jason Cook as Shawn D. It’s a real shame, I was definitely into the Belle/Philip/Shawn triangle, take 3 or 4??? hahaha,
I love what you say about Judi Evans, Wally Kurth, and Bryan D. as Adrienne/Justin/Lucas, that was unfolding so nicely last year, another story…abandoned. I was intrigued with Adrienne and Lucas, and yet we see them at Chad & Abby’s wedding being slightly affectionate, yet I wondered what is up with them? Are they now just cordial friends.
Yeah, I too I Marie Wilson, just not the character of Summer. Her playing with those earrings/charms of Maggie’s reminded me when Seirena would talk to that bloody elephant!

Great news.

In a way. .I loved having a piece of sami-ness back in Belle. .but I have to admit Martha needed time to re-acclimate to Salem. .how embarrassing for marie Wilson. .I would never answer another job offer from days if I were her. .Sal. .well still a green actress no real story to grow into. .Brandon is always good when the writing is. .Dena is going to write the farewell year of days in 2017..this show has run its course because no one in daytime can come out of the past in order to change the landscape. #farewellSalem2017

What the hell is going on in Corday land? News of departures like these makes me very nervous , but as life long Days watcher and fan I’m hopeing for the best.

I knew exits were coming, just really sad it is Belle & Shawn. Yes, the material for them could be better. Change the material & not can the actors. With Bo dead, we need his son. As for Sale, I hate that the African American/ethnic scene never grows or lasts. Summer was a bad choice. Really hope they don’t can MBE & SN next! Always love “Kayla” & in my opinion the Brady canvas needs her.

Now could they please bring Kassie DePaiva back as Eve? I would have kept Belle and Shawn, but oh well.

I would love to have Kassie DePaiva back. She is wonderful.

Yes, bring Kassie DePaiva back as Eve… so much potential for story with Eve, I really wanted to see her develop further with Justin.

The character of Summer hasn’t been working at all, so Marie Wilson’s departure is not a surprise. IMO, Martha Madison hasn’t really fit into the canvas this time around, and I can blame the writing, but whatever the reason, Belle hasn’t been a success. I know TPTB wanted to give Abe a story, but even with the arrival of a daughter he never knew he had (which is an overused way of introducing a new character), Abe still didn’t have story, and there were times when Sal Stowers was not up to the task, IMO. As for Brandon Beemer, he should have had more scenes with Kristian Alfonso, but TPTB dropped the ball, making Rafe her confidant and having her focus on Ciara and her many problems. So I’m cautiously optimistic that these departures will lead to more focused storytelling. The cast was much too big as it was, and these four were not adding value to the show. Now all they have to work on is better storytelling, and DOOL might be back on the right track again.

Yes, focused storytelling, I like that Beth. I agree. I would love for Nicole (Ari Zucker) to get that, Nicole is finding her way after losing Daniel, but I feel she is stuck in this business with Theresa for the sake of giving Nicole something to do. Ari is such a great talent, it would be great if DOOL would give her a focused storyline. I loved her connection with old/new Parker. DAYS utilize Ari Zucker, she is gold when given worthy material.

It’s sort of like they are all treading water over at DAYS….things aren’t working here and there – I get the feeling the powers that be are not sure what the next move should be –
The character of Belle is uninteresting, at least to me. She is quite attractive but vacuous, there isn’t any real depth there, so I find I don’t care about her. She does not have any real chemistry with any other characters that I can feel.
At least, that’s my overview.

I am surprised at the exits of the Shawn and Belle characters—I love Marie Wilson so I had been wishing that she would have stayed longer—I’m not trying to be mean but the teens who took over from the young actors don’t hold a candle to the children who played those parts (Ciara, Chase and Theo)—I am terribly missing the little girl who played Ciara. Something tells me the bloodbath isn’t over yet and there will be more exits coming within the next few weeks.

I have mixed feelings about Shawn and Belle leaving-most of the teens shouldve been showed the door except for Theo-i like this actor but its the no talent teen scene that hurts this show…but Summer was a mistake and im so glad she is leaving…Melissa or Sarah-Maggie’s daughters should have been brought on instead…had Melissa Archer played Sarah that would have been great…she couldv’e been involved with Philip but sneaks around with Deimos as both plot against Victor to steal his fortune but Sarah develops true feelings for Philip and has a change of heart about helping Deimos…Lani can go any time…they should have hired Debbie Morgan as Valerie Grant and as a Love interest for Abe and kept Maxine around too…Maxine could have feeling for Abe as well and revealed to be Valerie’s cousin…i like Martha Madison-wish she was staying.

I wish MM could stay too, Jimmy! BTW, Peter Brown (Dr. Greg Peters) passed away. I know you know who he and his character were.

Yes…i know who he was…his character was involved with Denise Alexanders Susan Martin and Mary Frann’s Amanda Howard…back in those ‘DAYS’ all the acting was good and i loved all the actors-the stories were some of daytimes best…unfortunately i cant say that about current Days…i still like the show but the teen set is terrible…they need young characters if this show is going to continue for future generations but this group of young characters are going to be the shows downfall…Martha Madison as Belle-i liked it she was an attorney and thought she and Justin would get some good courtroom drama…she too should be around for the younger generation…Days is just way too dark…too many murders, kidnappings and Ciara’s rape-i tried to like her but her acting is wooden and her rape scene and aftermath wasnt well played and written…her drinking scene…omg-even worse…never should this show had age the children…Hope could have adopted 12 year old Chase who becomes emotionally unstable because of his fathers death and caused Hope a lot of problems…it would have been a shocker if a child Joey was responsible for Ava’s death and sent away to a juvenile facility until he is 18…Days was once known for its controversial stories that brought in huge numbers…but it never was so much with the gloom and doom and all the characters in unhappy situations on an almost daily basis…i want HAPPY ‘DAYS’-NOT DEATH VALLEY ‘DAYS’…sorry for yelling…lol

I like Martha Madison, too! She was re-growing on me. As was Brandon Beemer. I was really enjoying see the story develop further, with Belle and Philip, and the new develops with Lani and Shawn, I was hoping to see more of Martha, and Brandon. I’m quite shocked that Martha Madison was let go; I’m really liking her version of Belle.
As for Marie (Summer) being let go, I’m so okay with that. The development of Summer was a dismal failure from the start. And, Sal Stowers as Lani was developing slowly, though I would have preferred more interaction with Abe, and Theo. Yeah, where is Maxine, she runs that nurses station quad. Where did she go?
Anyways, a bit let down that there will be no more Belle and Shawn in Salem, they are in their 30s and, it was nice to see some legacy characters returning and also growing on the canvas in story. Hopefully, new Ciara goes with her brother.

I watched 3 eps last night… to catch up on DAYS

Shawn D. w/ Lani … had potential

I enjoyed their night out for drinks and eating apple pie. they looked good together… not to mention…. I like the mixed couple together… as I posted… wouldn’t it be something…. had Shawn D. , Lani, and Abe find out about all the double dealing dirty cop machinations of Rafe, Hope, and Roman.

Martha Madison: never once… did I compare her to Kirsten STorms…. that’s saying… a lot… she didn’t raise or lower the bar… what does make me laugh… in a good way… is how evil she is….. no? AND… she’s Marlena daughter… Belle moral compass is LOL and to cheer about… to think she’s the spawn of John Black no less…. DAYS, NEVER capitalized and wrote scenes for mother/father and newly returned daughter. Belle is actually nastier than Sami. LOL that’s why I was INTRIGUED with THIS CHARACTER… POTENTIAL GONE…. muck it up some more DAYS… I couldn’t stand her or any one with Phillip.. he’s the worst recast. I was impressed with Martha Madison… even if she replaced Daniel Cosgrove in the legalese dept… but… she also had $250 million dollars… imagine all the FUN and imagination she coulda woulda shoulda…. I’m not big on recasts… but .. MS. Martha does well.

Lani: ABE has a family and this newly discovered daughter… was … like recast Shawn D. and recast Belle…. were never written for…. Lani was AMAZING on nuAMC… the internet venture… she astounds. I loved how she was so well aware of what was going on in the Salem PD. the knowing looks of suspicion with Hope… and Rafe. this could have been big… repeating again… Lani and Shawn D. : two characters from core families… LOOK GOOD together… and acted well off of each other…

Summer… her 2nd return is brief thus far… so it’ll be easy to let go …. THANK GOD…. any thing… to get rid of the character of DANIEL is God Jonas… forever and day already. yikes… I can’t imagine any one… who likes to see Maggie pained hurt aching .. you name it… as she was looking at pics of herself and the “father” of Summer … 30 plus years ago… not to mention… what did Deimos slip Maggie ???? placebo ? I didn’t even know she was taking medication… Suzanne Rogers is ON… I love her!

I just don’t know what to think of all the headwriters who change shows just as much as actors are given the heave ho…. it pains me

is Ryan Quan up to the challenge… has spent his whole life @NBC… is this worthy? I HOPE HE STANDS UP TO DENA Higley

@Jeremy… Cheers … love to read that … inasmuch as upheaval turns far too often.. on our show of shows… My DAYS wouldn’t be the same without

ps: in reply to @Tay below… once again… it seemed like a shoe-in… that writing for Shawn D. and Belle… would have been an easy let… they had an easy going game set and match thing going on… doesn’t make sense to me either…

ps: Paul… Knocks me out

when the camera loves you… and you have a knack for acting… oozes sensual

Christopher Sean IS a knockout

Yum!

OK… write for him already… and that Zap had better be nothing more than amping up his manhood and gaydar

Losing Shawn & Belle just doesn’t make sense to me. 🙁

First of all, I hate to see actors lose their jobs. Best of luck to their next chapters.

It seems that DOOL has lost almost all of the momentum that was happening during the high-rating period in November. Today, the show is unrecognizable. There have been so many new characters introduced in the past four months, along with losing so many fan favorites that it feels like a different show.

I have stated before that I have been a fan since the late 1970s. I want this show to survive. But, it seems with all of these writers changes, the show continues to get relaunched time and time again. How many times has the audience had to endure total overhauls. Where is the continuity?

It is hard to be invested in the show when the audience has to spend months watching Summer, Belle and Shawn, knowing they will not be a part on the canvas in five months. I felt the same way with last year’s announcement that Eve, Paige, Daniel, etc., were leaving the show.

It seems that DOOL has brought so many popular characters back to boost ratings. Unfortunately, so many have been killed off that I am not sure who is left to bring back that would increase ratings.

It will be interesting to see what storylines the writers have in store.

I have whiplash with all the changes on this show. Yee-gads!

Agree with all of these decisions.. accept. .maybe Summer .. still early on.. I did fast forwarded through most the show yesterday.. def not worth my time lately….. by the way…. I thought the character of Chloe was coming back…

I understand what you mean about fast forwarding. Ever since Christmas, it has felt like the writers are trying to turn Claire into the next Adele.

Sad to see Belle and Shawn go. Does this mean they are taking Claire with them?

Not sad to see Sal go or Summer.

I have some others who should go or be recast starting with Ciara.

What about Philip? He was hooked up with Belle. I don’t like the recast so I wouldn’t mind if he left.

I’m so done with DAYS, they finally hire a beautiful and intelligent person like Sal Stowers and a new writing team comes in and decides to destroy whatever hopes I had for character Lani. Bye Days, I hope your days are numbered pretty soon.

I don’t watch the show anymore but those *recasts*. They should dump the teen set next starting with the annoying Ciara. Some characters were not meant to be recast. No one does Shawn D better than Jason Cook. So glad I’m just sticking with GH! Don’t miss Days at all.

Even though renewed, DAYS is apparently in disarray and has lost their way!
Now I’m starting to wonder if Josh Griffith was forced out (than leaving on his own).

Even with these casting cuts, I don’t expect anything new from Dena Higley & Ryan Quan. I bet they will continue on the same very dark track they’re on right now: bringing in characters (old & new) and not knowing what to do with them (having no clear direction) and rewriting history in order to fit in the storyline.

DAYS really needs a new Head Writer(s), because this regime just isn’t cutting it!

I can appreciate a new writing team’s prerogative to shift but Salem is crazy of late. The appeal of daytime drama is bonding with characters and the actors who play them. Please stabilize the landscape in Salem and focus on crafting solid appealing stories and making them work. Also, if we are going to say goodbye to characters, then develop the ones who remain and populate them in those new tales of romance, adventure, family, and daily life.

Although I hate to see people lose their jobs I think these cuts were necessary. These characters bought nothing to the show, and the fact I don’t even know who Cassandra is says a lot about how little I’ve been paying attention to the show at the moment. Unfortunately we still will have to wait until after the Olympics this summer to see what this team is doing, and that is a lot of time to kill. Best thing they could do for this show, which they are addressing is shorten the time between filming and airing episodes.

Okay, the character Lani is being axed, not Cassandra but is there a Cassandra because the name doesn’t ring any bells with me?

Cassandra was Sal Stowers character name on the Prospect Park relaunch of All My Children, where she played Angie’s (Debbie Morgan) daughter.

She was very good as Cassandra on the Prospect Park version of AMC so I admire Sal Stowers but her character on Days of Our Lives is boring and not connected to anyone romantically – so I guess they just stopped developing her role. She will most likely just leave town to accept a Police department assignment elsewhere – I mean it’s obvious the character is not growing or evolving or doing much of anything at all.

What age range and characters does days want to focus on? Shawn and belle should be front burner. Days needs to focus on the next generation while keeping vets around . Unbelievable!

EXACTLY. THANK YOU.

Half the police force has been hired. Now crime in Salem will REALLY run rampant!!!!!

Days is totally unwatchable for me at the moment – maybe he changes will be for the better !

The Summer character was a dry edition to the cast to say the least and Sal Stowers has not to proven to me any real acting talent. I do think that Sean D should have had more interactions with hope as support.

DAYS is so inconsistent. I was so excited during the 50th Anniversary stories but since then I feel like there has been a significant downward spiral. The stories seem very dark, with very little light/joy to balance things out. I was looking forward to getting reacquainted with Belle and Shawn so their sudden departure is disappointing.

Inconsistent is a good choice of words – that really sums it up. Too many disconnected storylines, and some atrociously written ones as well. I personally do not mind Belle and Shawn leaving, to me they just don’t add anything exciting to the show. They should NOT have killed off Will Horten and they should have attempted to recast Sonny. What in the world does Paul have to do? The Kidnapping story was terrible, mercifully short that it was….I am referring to Paul being kidnapped by John’s crazy father, that was absurd.

Anyone being replaced or are all of those mentioned characters terminated? What will they do about Maggie’s daughter storyline? Still angry they brought Bo back to kill him off!

Here are a few suggestions:

1) Bring back Sarah and Melissa Horton – Their children can be the next generation of DOOL.
2) Why not introduce some of Sonny’s brothers?
3) Recast Abigail pronto.
4) Continue to trim the cast of dead weight to save money. Then, offer Allison Sweeney, James Scott and Eileen Davidson the moon.
5) Introduce a powerful African-American family that can mix it up with the Hortons and Bradys. Debbi Morgan as the new Valerie Grant would be EXCELLENT casting. I would love to see her mix it up with Vincent again. This would also allow David banning to come back.
6) No more kidnapping storylines. OVERDONE.
7) No more secret kids coming out of the woodwork (i.e. Lani, Paul, Summer)
8) Cast Andrew Donavan, Theresa’s brother.
9) Can we bring back Carrie Brady back with Anna?
10) PLEASE bring in a family member for Kate. (A recast Billie, Rex, Cassie?)

The actress who played Billie in the mid 00s was good, they should bring her back. I had assumed they had retconned Rex and Cassie out of existance, they are never mentioned.

Julie Pinson? Krista Allen? Lisa Rinna?

I’m guessing you mean Julie.

Yes Julie Pinson, played Billie in the mid 00s. They could pair her with Frankie Brady. They’ll need a new lawyer after Belle leaves. Oh that was another thing that was never explained. When we last knew Belle she was studying pre med, so it was odd that she turned up as a lawyer. You don’t hear of many career changes like that.

the fire sale and spiral is on

“Thank You, Ken Corday”

Days had one complete family; with three generations… as I’d posted before… they looked like they were getting their vibe on… and it was NICE to see Abe Reynolds… getting a family. SAD to see Lani going… she had potential… could it have been with Shawn D. ? Roman ? Rafe ? I had wanted to see Abe and Lani discover all the secrets and dirty cop’ going in on Salem…. with Hope and Rafe… w/ Roman keeping their secrets… this includes hiding the secret that Joey told Roman he’s guilty. I was ready and waiting for the DAYS when the numbnuts who run Salem PD got their just dessert.

Shawn D. and Belle ??? I didn’t mind so much Belle… altho it smarted that she was the new Salem Attorney , replacing Daniel Cosgrove’ Aiden… and It was like seeing this gorgeous man being replaced by bubble gum… so… hopefully… whomever Daniel Cosgrove returns as… he’s still an attorney… but Peter Blake… and yes… he’ll be attracted to Kayla

altho… I read on soapcentral…. Daniel Cosgrove may be coming back as Andre…. in a MASK !!!!! ???? Please DO NOT LET THIS BE

plus… it was upchuck and disgusting to watch Belle with John Paul Lavoisier ‘ Phillip… HES THE ONE that needs to go… it’s no wonder they don’t show him with Lucas and brady… he looks older than them… and his acting , from the get go… just not their.

I had hoped Shawn D. could have had a chance to date Lani…. it would have been something.. if he went in with Lani and Abe… and discovered the dirty cop mayhem.

Marie Wilson : I’M sorry to see she’s leaving… STUPID WRITING… TERRIBLE STORY. it would have been so much easier… had she simply been… one of Maggies daughters… returning home…. argh! DANIEL JONAS IS DEAD !!!!! he’s the most celebrated and revered dead man ever ! he is a constant reminder of when days was at its worst and still… here we are near 3 months later… still “mourning” and lauding Daniel is GOD Jonas.

I hope they get rid of Phillip SOON

i’m certain theirs more to follow.

REHIRE !!!!!! Kassie DePaiva.

i’m simply watching DAYS to keep up… waiting for the big splash and premiere… after the 2016 Olympics… DAYS will Premiere August 22, 2016

I’m not a committed Days viewer and this is why. Their constant writer and cast changes give the impression of haplessness, grasping and desperation. The subliminal message to viewers is that the show is unsteady and unreliable. The takeaway is a reluctance on the part of viewers to invest time, energy and loyalty in a show that can’t seem to get its act together and treats them with a sometimes callous disregard. How can an audience commit to a character and a story line when the show can’t? Moreover, why should they? The show is training people to remain uninvested and aloof. That’s not a good strategy for survival.

I agree with Mister Media – I have the overall feeling that the show seems hopelessly adrift.
Just because I am an “older viewer” doesn’t mean I object to young people storylines, but the “teen scene” on this show is truly an atrocity to behold.
The so called “teen rape” scene was so badly executed and acted that I
sincerely feel embarressed for the show.
I enjoyed JJ when he was with Paige – and for whatever reasons, the chemistry just isn’t there when he is with Gabi – and it’s a little too hard to buy the fact that overnight he became a Police Officer.

If the writing isn’t there – and it isn’t – you can fire and hire all the actors in the world and it will not improve the show. They should be working with what is at hand and this wholesale bloodletting is a major step backward.

Why does Days continue to make such bad decisions? All the producers need to do is listen to fans, who say repeatedly that the teen actors are not skilled enough to get so much screen time, that relationships among meaningful characters are important and that the show relies too much on violence and shock to (unsuccessfully) create drama.

I think Clair is a better actress than Ciara, but neither she nor Shawn figure much in Hope’s recent troubles. You wouldn’t know they were her son and grand-daughter.

I know it’s a soap, but not even a heroic detective such as Hope would survive being attacked in bed by her finance right before the wedding, being reunited with her long long husband who then dies of brain tumor, attacks his torturer, has her daughter kidnapped, tracks down the kidnappers, her house set on fire, murders a villain and then covers it up, plotting with other cops to frame the villain’s son, has her daughter raped. Am I forgetting anything? This is in what–two months?

No wonder she doesn’t seem to recognize her son and granddaughter.

Get rid of the lousy teen actors. They are AWFUL. Beyond AWFUL!!! This ridiculous John story is beyond pathetic. Then we have “Patch” and Kayla acting like teenagers when they are ready to start receiving social security checks. I swear this show is beyond stupid. Eduardo? Sorry but the actor’s Santa Barbara days are long gone. He looks so ridiculous with that chin growth. He can not act out of a paper bag. Give Nicole something other than a bed to crawl into. Anytime Nicole is single she becomes a “hooch” and that is ridiculous. She needs to be a strong woman instead of pretending to audition for Billy Clyde Tuggle’s hooker’s show. (yes I know Billy Clyde is from AMC) If brainwashing was as easy as DAYS makes it appear I could convince my landlord to give me free rent for the rest of my stay here. How about the PTB at DAYS decide to tell a decent story. John and Marlena in leather is not pretty. I mean seriously, their days of dungeon and dungeon master are way over. It’s time we see them reviewing the story of Arsenic and Old Lace. No wonder DAYS ratings are plummeting. Making NBC regret signing them on for another year I am certain.

Hey, Mateo…EXCELLENT POST, dude!!!!!

Great comments Mateo. You are so right about the teens. They performances are dreadful. At least the blonde girl who plays Claire is awake when she does her scenes. The rest of them appear to be sound asleep. The John character has to be in his 50s if not 60s. His daddy issues should be well behind him. His psychiatrist wife should take off her leather special ops outfit and work with John to “let it go” and move on.

What Days needs is a character as interesting as Billy Clyde Tuggle and an actor as talented as the late Matthew Cowles.

You tell ’em! LoL your posts always make me laugh Mateo and I agree with you that this show needs some help –
What in the world does Paul do on the show now other than tell his dad (eternally raspy voiced John) that he is “glad to be his son”. Okay, we get it he’s glad to be John’s son, now what. Oh that’s right they brainwashed him with a 3-D Viewmaster so I guess that was something. At least, that storyline arc was mercifully brief because if Lo Mein or whatever his name was showed up one more time I was going to become ill.
Yes, Marlene and John are a snooze to watch – and frankly I’ve said before that Kayla and “Patch” are a little long in the tooth to be having these teeny bopper problems.
The ONLY story that catches my attention is the current Ben 3-way with Abigail, played excelllently by Kate Mansi…..who is about my favorite performer on the show (so of COURSE she’s leaving LoL) –

Thank god Rebecca Herbst avoided joining this show.

Why don’t “they” fire Ken Corday…

there’s no other reason to explain … DAYS

Ken Corday Productions… has taken the easy street

I will forever bring up just how ….

these shows should not be handed down to their immediate family….

there is obviously no creative matter in their son

I want that he knows this… at the very least

argh! it just seems to me… that every thing went spiral… from the time Edward J. Scott… left… in September, 2008.

from that time on… DAYS rose to the occasion… THANKS LARGELY in part… to; Will and Sonny

the 50th anniversary 6 month cruise… I celebrated

Ken Corday is not doing “his” job

THERE’S a thought.

Big mistakes with Belle, Shawn, and Lani too (IMO). All 3 of these are legacy characters and should be on canvas to drive story for these 3 major families (Blacks, Brady, and Carver). Instead we are stuck with the terrible acting of new Ciara and new Theo. Both are attractive but can’t act to save their lives.

They need to weed out a few more useless characters…these were a good beginning…and start using the core characters more.
The next wave needs to be, MUST be, the awful re-cast teens!

I agree, as I think it’s fair to say most viewers would agree, that the Teen players on this show are dreadful. I think Ciara needs to go off to Boarding School and when she returns maybe they can re-think her character.
With the summer months just ahead, it wouldn’t surprise me if they concentrate even MORE on the younger set unfortunately –
Now that Phillip is forming his own Record company, because well everyone does that when they can’t think of something else to do, of course Claire will be his first (and probably only) client even though her singing sounds like air escaping from a Balloon.

i havent watched days in months… i miss the show that it once was… but not the current mess… more failed promises from corday about the hype of new writing regime!… i dont believe him anymore and he has no credibility at all. this is been done too many times with no success, with exception to two years ago with the arc of kirstens return and the father eric / nicole romance and will and sonny story, the shows been too inconsistant

I am so angry, they fired Martha again. Days should have fired the new Ciara. I loved Martha Madison , she is a wonderful actress. Who are they going to fire Next? Sorry to say this, but Days ratings have fallen again. I smell a cancellation next year. Days is boring now, nothing to look forward too. I love Gh and Y&R. Days is putting me too sleep.

Martha Madison is quite boring. Sal Stowers is not a very good actress. Marie Wilson was saddled with a character that makes no sense at all. The only one I’m sad to see go is Brandon Beemer.

Oh, thank gosh Belle is gone. Can’t stand her. And why even bring Marie Wilson back in the first place?

Agree with Mary SF about shortening the time between taping and airing..then when things aren’t working, like Belle, Shawn and Phillip and especially Summer, the teens…they can fix them quicker then having to wait months for them to play out….again, they should have had Ben come back take the town hostage, then blow it up right before the Olympics and when it returns you find out who survived, who died, etc….and the writers could refocus the show and get it back on track….the could have taken out half the cast and retooled it to the characters that works….just a thought….

This is not surprising. DAYS has never known how to write for Austin and Carrie or Shawn and Belle. As far as Claire, she is actually the closest to her real age. She is suppose to be 15 and she was born on screen in 2005. So she hasn’t be SORASd that much. But with Shawn and Belle hone, are they still bringing Chloe back?? Shawn/Belle/Phillip/Chloe is the age group that should be carrying the show. They’re in their 30s now. They can’t keep counting on John and Marlena, Bo/Hope, Patch/Kayla, Jack/Jemnifer, those characters heyday were in the 80s/90s!!!! rest these characters!!! Shawn/Belle and that group are the future!!! They should also bring back Mimi, Rex and Cassie!! They’re Brady too!!!! Theresa can be shown the door. She is useless. Brady needs a REAL woman. They have no chemistry and can’t believe they tied them together with a baby!!! They could lure Alison Sweeney back if they really wanted to. And an EJ recast is DOABLE!! Paul Leyden(ex-Simon, ATWT) HELLO!!!! James Scott is never coming back to DAYS. and for God sakes, recast Peter Blake Dimera with Michael Muhaney (ex-Adam, YR)!!!!!!!! get it together DAYS!!!!!

The wrong people are being fired. Heads need to roll behind the scenes. The producers Meng, Allaar and so called writer Dena…After Dena’s Rafe evil doppelganger story how in the world was she ever rehired by this show? I can just imagine the new Rafe story she’s cooking up. Rafe is about to learn he is one of a set of identical triplets.

Thank goodness- (although Beemer was given Nothing to do and he is pretty hot.) please please please take Ciara and Claire and Jade and Theo and Chase -please take these none actors off the show. How can any casting director or producer not see how terrible they are?! They actually make Guy Wilson seem talented. Well not really- but they are just awful. Also who in the world is responsible for the John’s Father/ brainwashing story. Seriously did they just set out to write the eorst storyline they could possibly come up with. Marlena is 68 years old- she should not be running into empty warehouses with guns ablazing at her age. I love Deirde Hall- give her a real storyline with a real opportunity to act again. And after all these years- Stefano is gone and yet they come up with another brain washing storyline? Give me a break,

hey now, Michael, I’m in the minority, but I love and miss Guy Wilson.

I totally agree with ya, Dr Marlena Evans, needs a compelling story, and since her children (Sami, and soon-to-be Belle and Eric) are off canvas, Marlena definitely needs a real opportunity. Same with Maggie, too!

Yo accidentally used Andre’s brainwashing machine and Paul is now in love with Belle.

Im not amused by the new writers who apparently are cutting to turn Days into the all Hernandez hour! If the vets are next, or limited, I will be cancelling the Hernandez hour. Dena needs to respect the program and viewers not just write for pets!

Higley and Quan should be going! Their concepts are not Days at all! Dario, mother and unknown sister all should never have been added.

What’s that? sniff sniff, I smell agenda, Day’s kills or escort off every single character that is anyway a legacy. Will, Eric, Belle, and Shawn, But apparently I don’t need to worry cause the fate of days is in their new youngsters hands. Who have already all been written into a corner, as murderers and rapists.

Unf-ing believable.

Heads need to roll: Start with Quan and Dena who think we should replace Days with the All Hernandez hour!

1) Rafe is cute but dull. He bascially has no personality and has been playing the same roll as he did on Passions. No passion here. All stereotype nothing more.
2) Dario can go. If we are keeping Rafe, two is just too many especially after bringing back Gabi, Eduardo and a mama! Just too many cutting the air time significantly from beloved characters whom we actually tune in for and now will have to turn the dial as the program Days is replaced by the Hernandez hour.
3) Shifting away from long standing friendships kills a program. Hope and Steve are barely allowed to see each other now that Rafe is on the scene. All friendships must go to insure over exposure of the H. clan. On the same coin, Adrienne is not allowed to see her brother at all nor speak to her sister in law or nephew! Guess when you are not an H. you are wisked away.
4) Kayla and Hope used to be close again now they speak but rarely!
5) John is running to the H. scene with Eduardo and in passing remembers his partner Steve.
6) Lucas who? What happened to Adrienne? right they replaced with Adriana also an H. so why bother!
7) Maggie only has contact with unknown children forgetting her known family Jennifer and company!
8) Abe used to be friends with Roman, Marlena, John, Kayla etc. what happened oh not allowed. None are H. members

In short these writers are over-exposing and replacing the cast with their new found pets. But in so doing they have cancelled Days of Our Lives and replaced it with a program that is fast becoming unrecognizable!!

Matthew Ashford and Melissa Reeves Talk Return to DAYS for Doug’s Funeral, Susan Seaforth Hayes, and Their Enduring Friendship

Last week, Days of our Lives celebrated the taping of their 15,000th episode which is tentatively scheduled to air on December 3rd. The story will feature emotional and heart-tugging scenes of Doug Williams funeral and honor his portrayer, the beloved Bill Hayes, who passed away on January 12th at the age of 98.

While the actors, producers, and crew took a lunch time break to pose for some pictures and speak with the press, they knew they would have to get back to taping the funeral, which was going to make it a tough day, but also cathartic for all who loved Bill Hayes.

Several returns have thus far been announced including; Melissa Reeves reprising her signature role of Jennifer Horton (a part she first played in 1985), and Matthew Ashford as Jack Deveraux. Reeves had last appeared on the show back in 2021, and she was replaced by Emmy-winner Cady McClain in her absence when Jennifer was in storylines. In real-life, Melissa had moved full-time to Tennessee along with her husband, Scott Reeves (ex-DAYS, GH, Y&R). Now, and as previously reported, Reeves will first appear back on DAYS for the Thanksgiving episodes with the Hortons.

Michael Fairman TV caught up with Matt and Melissa during the 15,000th episode celebration to get their take on: being back for these special episodes, how it has been working with and watching Susan Seaforth Hayes portray Julie’s grief over losing Doug, and how they have supported each other through the years. Check out what they shared below.

Melissa, you are back on the set of Days of our Lives for this very emotional and special moment in the series history. How does it feel?

MELISSA: Oh, my goodness. I am honored. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else but to be here for Bill. He was like my real-life dance partner. He taught me how to ballroom dance. And to be here for Susan, of course, who’s just been our sweet hero this whole week. We’re just following her lead. She’s just been this incredibly strong example for us in the midst of this trial and season of her life. She is like just lifting us all up with her. It’s been incredible.

I was at Bill Hayes memorial service which was truly incredible and I know at the time you were in Tennessee. It was moving and celebratory of his life, all at the same time.

MELISSA: That’s all I have heard. I have to watch it on You Tube. They said it was just a real celebration of his life and I love that.

Photo: JPI

This must be difficult for Susan Seaforth Hayes depicting the death of Doug, when she is still grieving the loss of her beloved husband. (Susan pictured above with the returning Stephen Schnetzer who plays her on-screen brother, Steve Olson).

MELISSA: I’m sure Susan has those moments at home by herself, but she’s so good at being a leader and leading all of us. We’re following her, you know, and she’s like, “This is how I want to feel today.” And we’re just going along with her, you know? It’s so sweet.

Photo: JPI

How is it to see Matt Ashford again live and in-person?

MELISSA: You know, Matt and I can go years without talking, or seeing each other, and then the minute we see each other we’re chatting away.

MATT: Melissa was out on set doing a scene yesterday on the phone talking to a stage manager; as she was telling some really tough news on the phone. I’m like crying in the background, literally, I’m off-stage crying.

MELISSA: And then we get like back into normal life, and we’re like, okay, “What’s happening? What’s happening with this … or what’s happening with that?”

I had read, Melissa, that you were in touch with Matt about if there night be a possibility for you to reprise your role as Jennifer for these special episodes?

MELISSA: Yes. Well, Matt was like, “Hey! Would you want to come back? “And I was like, “Matt, you know, I would always come back. ”

MATT:  Every time I come here to Days of our Lives, they ask, “Where’s Missy? How’s Missy?” Everybody backstage says, “I miss her.” All of the crew is asking about her and saying, “It would be nice to see Missy. Nothing wrong with you Matt, but …”  They said, “Where is she?” I said, “She wants to come!”

Photo: JPI

There are some beautiful photos of Missy and Bill and Susan thorough the years that I found. It just reminded me of just the deep and entrenched history we all have had with the show, personally and professionally.

MATT: Missy is roughly the age where Francis Reid (ex-Alice Horton) was when she started the show, which is just crazy.

Photo: JPI

I’ve always said Missy was going to be the next generation Alice. Do you feel that Jennifer is the heir apparent matriarch of the Horton family?

MELISSA: Yes. I mean, this has been greatest blessing of my life, and that would be great. I told Ken Corday (executive producer, Days of our Lives) when I was 17 that this show would be my life. Ken always told me, “This is your home,” and I’ve always felt like that.

How have gotten through the scenes watching Susan Seaforth Hayes as Julie go through the loss of Doug?

MATT: Susan is bringing her best performance life for her and Bill. I mean, she’s a showbiz baby. She always has been one hundred percent, and she’s doing it for him, and this is who they’ve always been. So, you’re seeing this amazing performance colored by her life. She has her private life as Susan, but she has enough plugged into Julie that she’s done amazing work. The director, producers and writers are giving her room to live in these moments and it’s quite wonderful.

Photo: JPI

Have you already broken down in tears during the taping?

MELISSA: Yesterday, but today’s taping of the actual funeral I think they want us to try and be just more celebratory.

MATT: I mean, it is a beautiful long life for Bill Hayes and his character of Doug Williams, and so it will be about that. Then, you get a bunch of us together in the church pews, and there’s going to be hijinks.

MELISSA: We all have been through the waves of grief. You have that awful cry and then all of a sudden you feel okay.  There are those family situations we are portraying where you’re like, “What do we do? What do we do now? You know, no one knows what to do. But, it’s so sweet. I’m looking forward to seeing how the scenes all turn out.

So, are you glad that Matt and Melissa are back for the 15K episode and Doug’s funeral? From what we can tell, it’s going to be quite an emotional journey for Days of our Lives fans, and especially the performance of Susan Seaforth Hayes,

Ron Carlivati Talks on Decision to Make Days of our Lives 15000th Episode About Doug’s Funeral, and Previews Chances for WGA Award

This week, Days of our Lives celebrated the taping of their 15,000th episode. In of it itself, that is an incredible accomplishment for the long-running soap opera currently streaming on Peacock.

However, this on set gathering was a bit different. Though the show is celebrating their achievement, they are also in the middle of taping scenes surrounding the death and the funeral of Doug Williams, played by the late Bill Hayes, who passed away on January 12th of this year at the age of 98.

As previously revealed many longtime favorites are back to honor Bill and the character of Doug including: Gloria Loring (Liz), Melissa Reeves (Jennifer), Matthew Ashford (Jack), Maree Cheatham (Marie), Victoria Konefal (Ciara) and Stephen Schnetzer (Steve) to name but a few.

Michael Fairman TV was in attendance and spoke with Days of our Lives head writer, Ron Carlivati to gain some insight into how the 15,000 episode was crafted and the decision to honor the character of Doug Williams and Bill Hayes as its epicenter. In addition, Ron weighed-in on this Sunday’s April 14th WGA (Writers Guild of America) Awards, where he and his writing team are facing off with General Hospital for the daytime drama prize. Here’s what Ron shared below.

Was this your idea to make the 15,000th episode centered around Doug’s funeral and passing?

RON: It was. When you’re looking at it, and laying out the calendar for the whole year and you see 15,000 is coming up, we’re like, “What are we going to do?” And then, we got the news that Bill had passed away and something kind of clicked. I was like, “We should honor Doug on that show.” So then, we started to kind of build around that … when does he pass away? How does he pass away? Who could come back? You know, it’s a lot.  I’m very pleased with the returns that we got as there’s so much that you could do. We wanted everybody we could get. So, we put together a wish list and Janet Drucker (co-executive producer, Days of our Lives) made it happen.

Photo: JPI

You have Melissa Reeves back as Jennifer, when the role was last played by Cady McClain. What has it meant to have Missy back for these shows?

RON: It was so nice to see Missy Reeves. I think Cady has done such a good job, but on the 15,000th episode to see Missy as Jennifer, it’s a big deal. So having her was great, and overall, the milestone was a big undertaking, because you want to live up to it. You want the 15,000th episode to be good. Now, it has a lot of real emotion that you’re playing. because for the cast and the crew they’re honoring Bill Hayes just as much as we’re honoring Doug Williams.

Photo: JPI

Was it hard for you and the team to write this episode?

RON: Yes. I’ll tell you why it was hard to write.  When I wrote, for example, Asa’s (Phillip Carey) death on One Life to Live or Victor’s (John Aniston) on DAYS, Asa is a different type of character. Like, you could have characters going, “Oh! I’m glad he is dead.” You could have different points of view, but with Doug, you’re not having that. Every person loves this man. No one had a bad relationship with him. So, you’re challenge as a writer is how do you make it that not everybody’s saying the same thing and doing the same thing. And so, we tried to find ways to make the episode about all the familial relationships and yet, how do you make it about Doug and yet broaden the scope.

Photo: JPI

I had spoken to Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie), a week after Bill’s memorial, for an interview. She said that she felt very fortunate that you did include her on discussions of how you would tackle Doug’s passing. How did that conversation go?

RON: First, I attended Bill’s funeral, which was incredible. I said to so many people it was an emotional service, but it was hard to be sad at this. The guy had an incredible life and it was an incredible celebration. And so, you’re sitting there watching this knowing that you now have to write something similar. And how do you write something that lives up to what you just witnessed? I wanted to talk to Susan to get her thoughts about, you know, how much do you want this to be about keeping Bill separate from Doug. How comfortable are you sharing your grief. She was incredible to talk to. It was a great chat.

You’re in the middle of taping these major scenes for the 15,000 episode to air in December. How do you think it’s going? Have you seen any of the scenes?

RON:  I haven’t seeing anything. I mean, we were still making changes to the script up till this morning!

Photo: JPI

The Writers Guild Awards are this Sunday, April 14th and once again this year there are two daytime drama nominees, General Hospital and Days of our Lives. How are you feeling about your chances this year?

RON: It is often just GH and us in the category. I’ve won three years in a row, so I’m kind of feeling like it’s their turn.

Photo: JPI

What episodes did you submit for contention? If I recall, they had to do with Victor’s memorial.

RON: The episodes we submitted were centered around Victor’s funeral. I think one has story with Vivian (Louise Sorel). We had some fun stuff, we had some emotional stuff at Victor’s death, and I am pretty sure that our submission was three episodes right around that time.

Did you make the decision to go with those episodes because there was a mix of humor and drama?

RON: I like to have some humor, but it was also the funeral, then there’s Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) giving birth, and then Vivian’s crashing the reading of the will. So, we had a lot of fun and it’s hard sometimes to pick three that tell a story, as opposed to submitting for the Daytime Emmys, where the writing team only submits two shows. So, we shall see how it goes on Sunday.
