On Friday’s episode of General Hospital, viewers are introduced to Dr. Griffin Munro played by the ABC daytime drama’s latest casting acquisition, Matt Cohen.

In his first scenes, we find Griffin in the hospital chapel, where Sonny (Sonny Corinthos) also come to visit to say a prayer for Jason (Billy Miller) and Liz’s (Rebecca Herbst) son Jake (James Nigbor), who is recovering from surgery.   Griffin and Sonny share an exchange about those who suffered from the plague in bibilical times and in modern times, relating this to the AIDS epidemic.

Sonny relates he knows something about losing someone to AIDS, which would be in reference to Stone (Michael Stone) who died back in 1995.  And  it seems Griffin, also has lost someone to the disease.   This has prompted many to speculate that Griffin is related to Stone, and especially after Sonny seems to have a understanding and affinity for the guy.

Later, Griffin comes to the GH nurses’ station hub and finds Lucas Jones (Ryan Carnes), who he went to school with and who gave him the tip on his new job!  Yup, as it turns out Griffin is General Hospital’s new neurosurgeon replacing Dr. Patrick Drake (Jason Thompson).   When Lucas hands over Dr. Drake’s patient files, who should be the top chart?  None other than Michael “Sonny” Corinthos!

So, what were your first impressions of Matt Cohen and Dr. Griffin Munro?  What do you think is the bond between Sonny and Griffin? Were you surprised that the series made Griffin the new neurosurgeon replacing Dr. Drake?  Share your thoughts in the comment section below!

Loved him! Nice casting. Especially like that he and Sonny seemed to bond.

I have so longed for the vintage GH when there were many nice doctors on staff. I was happy to see the new nice neurosurgeon. I was happy last year when they brought on the new nice therapist. His name is escaping me. Is it Andre? He seems sweet and I loved the twist about him being a consultant for WSB. As someone who misses the days when the show was more connected to the hospital and the hospital staff, I felt a sense of relief when Sonny said GH was the beating heart of Port Charles.

I wonder if there is a connection between he and Anna? Based on the scene on today’s show where he was looking at Anna from down the hall.

I was very intrigued after just one day. Love that he has a past friendship with Lucas and that he lost someone to AIDS.The actor has screen presence. Thrilled he’s been hired as a medical professional and not another murdering thug who’s in the Mob.
I’m really hoping GH chem tests him with Becky Herbst. I want a strong, healthy viable relationship for my favorite character. No more throwing this 18 year vet under the bus. Hoping Griffin can heal Elizabeth’s broken heart. Team GriLiz!

The character obviously is related to Michael “Stone” Cates given that Sonny seems to have a connection with him as well as Anna. I think the fact that Stone dated her Anna’s daughter would cause Anna to have remembrance of someone. I actually thought that Stone reprised his role as The new doctor Griffin. We will just talk to settle for conjecture.

Very good impression, but then again GH has brilliant actors. What they also have is lousy stories

Funny. Hey, where have you been, man of Curacao? The Caribbean or Venezuela? Both gorgeous places. Missed your posts.

So far, so good. What I really liked was Sonny’s soliloquy on what General Hospital has meant as the moral center of PC. It was heartfelt, and captured what many of us has tried to say, but in this case Maurice said it best. What’s ironic is his chosen profession is the anthesis of what he said about GH, and has put many of the patients there.

I think the writers are definitely listening to and “dialoguing” with the viewers. For how many years have some of us been complaining that the moral center and heart of GH had been filled by SonnyJason/Carly and the mob?

Therefore, it was hugely symbolic when the character who ate the show with violent storylines that totally replaced the hospital as the show’s heart and soul, gave a “speech” resituating the hospital as GH’s center and heart.

Thank you Jean and Shelly for listening, and for responding.

It’s true–it was nice to hear.

But saying it doesn’t make it so. And the fact is, Sonny and the mob are still the heart and center of the show–not the hospital.

So here we are . . . still. I’d like to believe the speech marks the beginning of something different. And Altman and Passanante might even be in favor of a change like that, one that returns some recognizable moral and ethical framework to the show. I just don’t think the ABC execs will ever let it happen.

Absolutely agree with both Rose and Tristan.
I liked him. Interestingly enough, I had forgotten about the cast announcement so when he started speaking to Sonny about AIDS in the hospital chapel, I thought for a minute he was related to Stone. The actor looks like a grown up Stone.
I hope he is paired up with Lizzy.

Tristan

From your pen to Jean and Shelly’s eyes, I hope.

Add me to the kudos for Jean and Shelly, or whoever wrote Sonny’s lines.

I equate Sonny to the snake in the Garden of Eden preaching love and peace, Rose.

CeeCee…it was weird that the writers chose Sonny to be the one to state the raison d’être for General Hospital. But then they also have him in the chapel praying, and at the same time plotting the downfall of Julian, Eva and the gunrunners!

Of course, you’re right, Rose. I would assume that La raison d’être for Sonny takes a completely different meaning, as far as I’m concerned. This philosophical state of being goes back Socrates, Plato, Pliny, the Elder, and the more modern, Sartre. I find it almost sacrilegious to insert such a parallel between its connotation to whatever moral code Sonny lives by. Yes, it’s a soap, but I would beg TPTB not use this supreme model of the ideal human being so shabbily by equating it to the lifestyle and whatever deep thoughts go through this mobster’s head. My ideals are certainly not en par with Sonny’s.
Beautifully concise post, Rose. It’s great to see another fellow poster analyzing the symbolism ( or the representation of it) and how misused it is in this context. Bah!! I think the writers should do a little reading before they choose someone such as Sonny to make a point. To me, this could have been a cleansing, but, Sonny still has revenge and destruction on his mind. Quite a collision, going directly against the principle of la raison d’être. Night, Rose.

it just reeks of prop… the damage has been done… if you will… with Sonny in the wheel chair… praising pining… and plaudits of his offspring trials… in the arena of ??? what makes the world go round ?

his philosophical appendage stifled for now….

his eyes and hand motion bigger than life itself

speaking in a downward spiral at any and all

just you wait… how full the hour gets

Sonny horizon tremble

Hi Maurice Benard… like your new scripts

It was nice to hear and I think Sonny realizes after losing his ability to walk how special people are who work in hospitals. I do. In real life, I have SO much respect for doctors and nurses. What a service these men and women do and the hours they keep! God bless.

Amen to that Timmm!

Exactly my point, Timmm. Of all people, Sonny?? The symbolism would only work if he got on his knees and promised God to never lift a hand on another human being again. I thought for sure the chapel’s floor would open up, like a chasm and swallow Sonny up.
Yes, the medical profession is a blessing and a gift to the world. My husband and all his siblings, his parents and grandfather are all doctors. The hours are brutal for some, but the rewards immeasurable….they fo it because they love humanity. Each and every person should visit a children’s hospital….specifically Boston Children. Said visitor would come out in different state of mind. What these children go through is indescribable and heartbreaking. They are the heroes. Much love.

I think Jean and Shelly are writing a fair amount of irony into Sonny and Carly lately. I don’t think there’s any other way to take Sonny opining on GH as the moral center of PC. Every time Sonny and/or Carly pine for Jason to get his Jason M memories back without any acknowledgement that what they feel now must be what Monica and Alan felt when Jason lost his Jason Q memories, I think that the writers must intend this to be ironic. Especially when Sonny and Carly now have sons the same age that Jason was when he first was brain injured.

is this all a cathartic for just how BIG Sonny going to tune IN

take no prisoners… Carly will actually buckle under

realize the err or her ways

Sonny command of the mob scenario… more bullets than aim

I want it be known… that the character he “Plays” behind… a mob boss… with underlings and henchman who do his bidding

what power is that?

what everlasting trigger is he ?

he’s a mobster who has a family… that took advantage and wreaked havoc on all the denizen of port Charles… who is … per the writers… trying to

??? what !

give him a conscience ?
give him a heart?

Sonny … is nothing
he’s worse than Victor and Stefano…

Sonny underground working… in the underworld… trying to mesh and figure himself prominent in the reality of disdaine… scum as it were

all this is burgeoning in that wheelchair

Carlos / Julian / ANY OF his opposing ??? mobsters could have easily taken him out…

if only that had happened

Matt Cohen is so gorgeous he had me saying Patrick who? He would be perfect for Liz she needs someone completely new because JASON, lucky or nikolas have been nothing but unrealiable for her. She needs someone chasing after her not the other way around, as for his interaction with sonny well I’m sure a lot of viewers will say here we go agian sonny Carly always in everyone air time lol, but back to the doctor yummy yummy yummy.

I completely agree!!

I hope they start showing more hospital scenes and don’t waste him on a gay s/l.

“waste him on a gay s/l” meaning?

“waste him on a gay s/l.” You have got to be kidding Me right? Because I sincerely hope and pray that You are NOT that narrow minded or ignorant to facts, to be saying that seriously…

Oh, I hear you, Buddy. What’s the use. Don’t waste your time, breath or energy on such bigoted drivel.

Carol, careful, your slip is showing.
Listen, Lucas is handsome, charismatic and he’s a good man. I remember his real father, his spirit guide, Tony Jones, telling Lucas to not settle and to always remember he is worthy of love and to never sell himself short.
My issue with Brad was he was not worthy of Lucas. I do want an interesting gay story line if it’s done right.
I thought Lucas and this new doctor shared some good chemistry. If not, that is fine.
I just want Lucas to be paired up with someone who is worthy of him. To me, Brad the mouthbreather is not that guy.
To see a gay story done right on a drama series, check out Six Feet Under. Keith and David were fleshed out, they had chemistry, they were complex and you cared about both of them.
I do not understand why daytime drama cannot get this right.

really well read… ie: about Six Feet Under.

ie: Keith and David

whenever they interacted

you were holding your breath
measuring your release
exhaling ; with relief angst forbidden lust heart imploding leaping

marvel

Indeed, Patrick! What worked about Six Feet Under’s Keith and David was that ALL couples could relate to their marital issues.
Their marriage counseling sessions were so well written and whether you are gay or straight, you could relate to their issues. And it was interesting.

Well, looks like you may be tuning out because I think him and Lucas could possibly end up together. Nothing wrong with that! Lucas is great and he needs more screen time!

Exactly who Lucas needs… a caring individual with a kind & giving
soul, Griffin seems to fit the bill. Brad was never worthy of Lucas,
that relationship had no heart.

I agree. I think it would be wonderful to bring on a really hot new doctor and then pair him immediately with Lucas. Could make for a great love triangle with Brad. Or maybe the new doctor can be bisexual and be fought over by Liz and Lucas!

I agree, I think he may end up with Lucas. First impression is that he will be a great addition.
Patrick was also a nice guy.

Waste him on a gay s/l????

The real waste would be putting him with Liz who is obviously not over her lifelong obsession with Jason and who clearly needs to stop chasing any man so she can focus on her children. You can’t set your kids up for the kind of pain Liz does by never teaching them that THEY are the family. She passes up every opportunity to teach them to be self contained and focused on their core unit as the family and the resulting damage of trying to “make” a family with men she has just barely dated like Jake/Jason is so obvious in her older boys. Liz repeatedly and loudly blaming Sam for “taking” Jason from them has had dire consequences. She has an opportunity to learn from her mistakes this time if she doesn’t just form a loser club with Nicholas and Spencer and continue the cycle.
In any event, give the good doctor someone with a lot less baggage. He’s a beautiful addition to the GH family.

Loser

Are you referring to the actor, or to yourself?

Once in a while, Tristan, davlestef comes out with these one-word cryptic comments that are neither here nor there. I guess he hasn’t had his nightcap, yet. Kidding, dav. Honest!! LOL.

Lol Tristan neither that wad meant for the poster who thinks gay storylines are a waste of time. .every one on the planet is NOT straight. .NEWSFLASH

Lol CEECEE darling the cubes are a tinkling in MAH glass I do so luv a mint julep

To: davlestev1. Well, I agree with you for throwing “shade” on the bigots. But it was in the wrong place and, thus, was confusing. Another of the boards I read is, shall we call it, “Homophobe Central,” if you follow my cryptic clue. The first day Parker arrived, there was something akin to hysteria on that board. Now there are numerous, “Please put Kristina with…[insert male character].” There were no Kristina threads until this, so you know where this “please put her with a guy” hysteria is coming from. Just unbelievable!!!! Some threads were clever, like why do people get more upset with interracial stories on soaps than “gay” stories? Well, they don’t get more upset. It is just that the poster wanted to really know why we weren’t MORE upset with a sexuality storyline, so used interracial romances as a straw man to start an argument. I guess I am more than stunned by the level of bigotry.

HaHa….wish I could join you, dav…do you have any Baileys’?

I just want to clarify what I am apparently reading here. So…EVERYONE who does not like watching gay storylines is a hateful bigot? So, my 95 year old grandmother, who stopped watching Days of our Lives after 44 years because she couldn’t tolerate watching Will and Sonny have naked sex scenes…..she’s a hateful bigot?? And to be clear, she got embarrassed even during explicit sex scenes with male/female couples, and would often change the channel. There are LOTS of types of stories I don’t like to watch as well, it does not make me an ignorant, hateful, bigot. It makes me human, it makes me unique, it makes me ME. I don’t like zombie shows. I don’t like vampire shows. I don’t like a lot of corporate intrigue stories. I don’t like gay stories. I don’t like overly violent stories. I don’t like mob/mafia stories.

Weird dichotomy, I enjoyed Queer as Folk though. It was VERY well written and very true to life. It was by gays, for gays, about gays. I don’t recall the straight community being all bent out of shape and screaming and petitioning that the show include more straight people. Wouldn’t that sound ridiculous?! Maybe if more straight people did things like that, that mimicked gay special interest groups, it might make them see the hypocrisy of their actions. I really don’t get the agenda and this rabid “need” for soaps to include gays. If you are offended by soaps and their lack of gay inclusiveness, don’t watch them! There is an unlimited amount of gay friendly and gay produced entertainment available on tv and online. It just seems a waste of time to sit and watch a soap every day, and just be appalled and outraged over the lack of gay characters. Nothing better to do?

Soaps started as a way to distract stay at home housewives from their cleaning duties. Literally, they were created to sell soap! To middle American women who didn’t work outside the home. They were romantic fantasies and morality plays. They were not designed to be social issue heavy, or politically correct, or represent all segments of society. With thousands and thousands of channels, and on demand entertainment, there are many many shows that are gay themed, about gays, for gays, gay inclusive, gay friendly, etc. And they do a much better job of it than the current crop of senior citizen straight soap writers. It’s like trying to insert a square peg into a circle hole. The ONLY type of gay story that will EVER be successful on a soap is basically a lie, so what is the gain in presenting it? Boy meets boy, ALL family members approve and are overjoyed, one person in the city has some objections but is emotionally swayed by the power of love, they get married in a lavish ceremony, the end. That’s not life, that’s not gay life. That’s a gay Disney movie. Soaps will present promiscuous straight characters, and their bed hopping antics, but HEAVEN FORBID if there was ever a promiscuous gay character in a soap! The folks at GLAAD would be reeling!!

Personally, I thought that character of Derek on DAYS was a riot!! I loved that dude! He looked all clean cut and professional, boy next door. And he was using his position as a Bellboy to steal, blackmail, bribe, try to get some discreet action on the side…LOL. I wish he had become Nicole’s sidekick, partner in crime. THAT was funny, and THAT was cool and THAT was true to life. Some people said that was an unfair representation of gays. NEWS FLASH….soaps are not really friendly or flattering to straight characters either. Straight people are shown, warts and all, internal ugliness, problems, issues, etc. People do not divorce at the drop of a hat and remarry each other 7 times. but you don’t see the PSMA (Please Stay Married Advocates) writing letters in protest against soaps. The old saying pick your battles very much applies here.

Passions, that late, UNLAMENTED piece of filth, was a show that included a lot of gay content. Included within with that gay content and those gay stories was incest, infidelity, cross-dressing, violence, murder, rape, divorce, fractured families, mental illness, castration, and other crowd pleasing topics. Not exactly what I would call entertainment. My point here is…..people watch soaps knowing what they are, how they are run, and pretty much what to expect. To watch them for what they aren’t is just bizarre. I will use Su as an example, a frequent poster on here. Nothing against Su, but Su LOVES stories about rape, murder, violence, gunplay, death, misery, action, mafia, etc. Su wants a steady stream of that on his soap! But soaps cannot be that constantly. It would even be different if soaps were once all about that stuff, and Su was longing for the good old days, but soaps were NEVER consistently about that. Those things were done to advance plot, or during sweeps, etc. Same thing applies here…there is enough targeted entertainment out there for ALL segments of society, that you can find exactly what you want to entertain you.

Opinions do not automatically make someone a bigot. It’s how people act upon their opinions that determines if someone is a bigot. If someone attacks a gay person physically, or verbally, or by using misunderstood Biblical references that would seem to promote hatred, that is a bigot. Aside from centuries of misunderstanding and misquoting, the Bible does not promote violence or hatred. It tells us to love our neighbour and treat others as we would want to be treated. Someone on here, I think Carol…who makes a one line statement saying she would rather see hospital stories than gay stories….that is NOT a bigot. That is an individual who expressed a very brief opinion….not mentioning one single negative thing about gays. I have gay family and friends. I am loving and supportive towards them. But as a unique human being, I am here, in all my free-speech given glory, to proudly and LEGALLY say…I do not like watching gay stories on soaps….except Derek on DAYS. I don’t feel soaps are the place for them, especially now in this day and age, when anyone with a cell phone and an imagination can put entertainment on the internet and have it viewed by the masses. I am not a bigot, and I am far from hateful. I am under no obligation to ANY of the haters on here who will undoubtedly attack me for this opinion. But I look forward to the ensuing discussion.

@Dylan.
No, my dear friend. I did not say that. I did not say that anyone who did not like watching gay storyline is a bigot. I was referring to the real bigots who bash gays to their face. Who treat them as lepers. I have seen this first hand.
I am not talking about, nice, clean, human opinions. I am talking about foul language, Dyla. Language where God comes up more often than not…..that He will punish the world and destroy humanity because of the gays.
I did not want to get into it, Dylan, because as we can see, this discussion opened a can of worms. I have gay friends. I call them my friends. I go past the ‘gay’, because to me, being gay does not change their integrity.
When both my friends came out, my parents still accepted them into our house. We were in High School. I had known them forever. However, Dylan, many of their friends, were their friends no longer. That is what I am talking about. People can be very vicious. To wish harm or death on another human being; gay or nay is inhuman. Not you, Dylan. You are not hateful. I think you are a very respectful poster who has very healthy convictions….I have learned much from you. I’m still learning…LOL
I do apologize for not having made that clear. Believe me, the same thing goes on with my grandparents. They keep their opinions to themselves, but we all know what they’re thinking.
To be honest with you, I am uncomfortable with both homosexuals and heterosexuals doing love scenes, or in reality, making out in public.
I hope I have cleared it up for you. I was not referring to Carol in particular, but in general. I did post that it was just one of those things that it did not come out as it was meant.
My problem with gay storylines on soaps ( I did say this before) is that they never go anywhere. Is it because of the fans? I do not know. But, gays are part of society and the world is a-changing…becoming much more accepting, don’t you think?
Later, Dylan. Loved your post.

Cee…sorry I didn’t mean you!!! I meant others above you on the list who were quite harsh to Carol. I always love your posts. You are thoughtful and articulate and well spoken. And except for a few minor things, I generally agree with the subject matter of your posts. So i hope to cleaqr up that it was NOT aimed at you, it was just the closest REPLY button I clicked on that thread. 🙂

@Dylan.
Hey, Dylan,
That’s ok. No harm done. Since your comment was in my inbox, I thought it was meant for me. We all agree it’s a delicate subject. And, just as ‘forms’ of racism, it will never go away, and be a point of discussion, in my opinion. Our ancestors all came from somewhere….but, in our cynicism, we tend to forget in what a wonderful country we live. Deep down we are all the same and try to strive for the same goals and a ideals. Then, again, we will find people with a devil-may-care attitude and then some.
Always a friend, Dylan. Later.

Really?

Struggles in the human condition are exactly what soaps are about. People get kidnapped, hit by cars, cheat, and yes, are gay. Homosexuality is not the problem, as Lucas’s character shows us. It’s society that has the problem. I love Kristina’s potential struggle with her identity. It’s real and something I see as a classroom teacher every year. When a show can bring an issue to life, it gives all people a chance to reflect and think. Dante & Lulu are divorcing when they clearly love each other. Sam, Jason, & Liz are dealing with step-parent issues that many deal with. Franco & Nina are struggling with one wanting a baby when the other doesn’t.

I’m simply glad GH is still on, and I embrace what’s to come, especially “another gay s/l”.

Carol, your choice of words has inflamed some posters, but I think I understand how you feel. He’s a great-looking guy! And, if we’re honest, most of us girls would rather watch him in a heterosexual romance we can swoon over. 😉

Fangirlies are so ridiculously selfish when it comes to this endeavor. How many heterosexual romances do you need to swoon over? You’ve got several sexy, hot, straight male characters on the show already to swoon about in their passionless relationships with the man-eaters they cavort with. Lucas deserves a cute and seemingly decent man in his life and that ain’t Brad, or even Felix for that matter.

LOL Style, I am not finding ANY of the GH so-called romances “swoon worthy” right now. LOL at most of the men cavorting with “man-eaters”. ITA

I got your back, Carol. You can say ANYTHING in here, but don’t DARE express an opinion about a potential gay storyline, or gay storyline, because if you are not sppouting love and acceptance and rainbows and teddy bears, you will be met with hostility and hatred. You will be called vicious names, you will be called a hateful bigot, you will be personally attacked down to the very fiber of your being. So much for tolerance, hey?

The thing that gets me is, this has gone way beyond tolerance, now we are expected to enjoy watching gay love scenes just as much as heterosexual love scenes. That is ridiculous! And hypocritical, because I have seen several people declaring that they will not watch DAYS or GH until their favorites, Wilson and Brucas, are back on! What, they don’t enjoy the other couples just as much?! 😉

“….you will be personally attacked down to the very fiber of your being ”

you have no idea … what that’s like

in this day and age.. and yes… I’m aghast that it still has to be said

this is … throwing salt…. in my, any and all, wounds of shared trial

” a gay story”

facts

Point taken, I suppose (and I’m not comfortable with the more vicious sorts of attack that sometimes go on, less here than elsewhere, but there’s some of it on here too; I think even strong outrage can be expressed in a civil way), but if you’re not giving tolerance, why would you expect it in return? I’m not sure it’s plausible to expect tolerance in exchange for intolerance. That seems to me contradictory on the face of it.

That said, though I don’t know Carol, I suspect what she meant was more along the lines of what maddiehayes said and was just phrased in an unfortunate way. There was a character on another soap who was a priest and played by a very handsome actor; on another board, he was sometimes referred to as “Father What-a-Waste.” I did not find that offensive (though Catholics on the board may have; I don’t know), and I don’t see any reason immediately to jump to the conclusion that Carol’s comment necessarily is, either—though I do see what people are saying and why it has pushed some buttons; it certainly gave me pause when I first read it, and then after a few uncomfortable moments it dawned on me that it had multiple possibilities. I’d love to see Carol come back on here and clarify what she meant, but I couldn’t blame her if she decided not to do so.

I absolutely follow what you are saying, Dylan. I always respect your views because they have meaning for me. You are among many who hit the spot for me. As Maddie has indicated, carol’s words did not come out as she meant them, I think. She has posted before, and I enjoy her vies, generally. But, you must see how callous some of these comments are toward gays. Tolerance is a two-way street. Later, my friend.

I’m thinking he could be Stone’s brother…his reason for being emotionally vested in AIDS…also could be why Sonny felt like he was a friend.

Rebecca…I like your ideas. Theoretically, if he ends up being Stone’s long lost brother, this could also be a legitimate reason for Robin to “visit” occasionally.

Thanks Rose. Ya; I’d actually love it if it were true. Could be interesting….As for Robin, she’ll probably pop in anyway for Anna, Mac, Maxie, etc. But I’m sure she’d love to meet this long lost brother of her one-time great love if that’s who he turns out to be.

If not, fun to speculate!

Hey, Rose.
I had to scramble the Internet looking for Stone. Wow!!!! So much history!!

You cannot have any kind of Stone-related storyline on GH without Robin. You just cannot. I think the writers are cleverly dropping red herrings into the mix to get us talking and speculating and showing interest. He is not who you think, and I suspect this will be a good “mystery” for armchair detectives to try to solve, therefore keeping us involved.

Hi Tristan…

I don’t agree that anything Stone-related needs Robin in the story. Between his incredible good looks, his filling the void where Patrick stood, this new character can probably draw us in all on his own. Besides, as I suggested, he’d have an incredible link to Sonny on some level as well.

There have been many great soap couples where eventually only one remained. And this character wouldn’t be Stone obviously…so I see no problem…only an interesting connection if my idea should actually be who he is.

I disagree. We all need to get over Robin. The fact that we couldn’t is in part what sunk Patrick’s character. Neither the writers nor many of the fans would let him move on from that relationship. Kimberly has a wonderful new career now as a director. They need to leave Robin off the canvas, happy and healthy in CA, with sporadic visits from Emma to grandma Anna. I was a viewer during the Stone era and remember the deep connection Sonny had to Stone, so it would totally work to have Griffin be connected to Stone somehow as a way of cementing his relationship with Sonny.

They could rewrite history and give Jagger, Stone and Gina a younger brother. But it would have be weird because they had no parents

LOL, Jagger. They had parents at some point, right? 🙂 We may just find out that this younger brother…Stone would be 39 today…Matt Cohen is around 34…had been whisked away…thought dead…who knows…

It’s just an inkling….but that would tie this new Dr. in with GH history, one that hasn’t been addressed in a while. Could be an ironic twist for him to help Sonny back to recovery…after all Sonny did for Stone.

Bec–he looks like a grown up Stone!
And Sonny tells Carly that he felt like a friend.
I do feel there was a connection.

There is someone else he reminds me of, also a dearly departed character, but more recently departed. And, unlike Stone, remembered by more than just one character. I’ll let you all mull it over. Ultimately I am convinced he is not related to Stone. This is just a red herring, but one that has us all talking!! Everyone is buzzing about his character, but more red herrings will be sprinkled into the story, before we know.

Tristan–hmmmmm.. could you mean Duke? And why does the good doctor’s last name of Monroe ring some kind of bell? Sonny did tell Carly that Dr Monroe felt like a friend.
PS And no, I was not thinking of Marilyn.

Aye, Harry me lad. The fella reminds me of a young Ian Buchanan. Re: Stone? The character is supposed to have ties to someone surprising who is IN Port Charles, not to someone who died in Port Charles over twenty years ago. The only people now in PC who would remember Stone would be Sonny, Mac, and Felicia. So, is the story supposed to be just a week-long Stone memory fest? How does that generate riveting long-term, consequential story? It doesn’t. Not to mention that if you weren’t watching 20 years ago Stone means absolutely nothing. Big deal.

They are throwing out red herrings by the barrel full, including looks between Munro and Lucas that suggest a relationship. When Lucas gets a contract maybe, but this guy will not have a long-term relationship with a recurring player, male or female. Although he COULD have had one.

So, yes, he reminds me of Duke, who WAS a friend of Sonny’s and who still has at least one very major tie in PC: Duke’s bereft lady-love.

The other thing no one is really mentioning is his resemblance to John J. York, Mac. Hmmmm, on that too! Does Mac have a kid he never knew about? We sure need more Scorpios!!!!!!

The writers are giving us a mystery with clues and red-herrings. The obvious things people are picking up on were thrown out the first day — Lucas and Stone. I think we are being well played. Guessing his connection will not be that simple. But I think we will get a real story out of it, one that is more than a sentimental nod to twenty-year-old history.

Name ONE friend Sonny has ever had. Brain damaged murderers don’t count. GO!!

Harry 1 and Tristan… Good call on possibility of the new Dr. Griffen possibly being connected to Duke. I recently viewed the original Twin Peaks in which Ian/Duke has a role. “Yes,” the new Doc and Duke do resemble each other…especially the hair.

Although I still believe he’s Stone’s younger brother, I agree that he does bare a great resemblance to both Mac and Duke…though neither bare a resemblance to each other! As said, I’m still going with my Stone theory. We shall see. Looking forward to his story.

That’s what I was thinking, too. He just has a very Stone-like essence. I think it would be a great way to carry GH history forward to new audience members. I’m also good if he’s not related. He seems like a good fit.

I agree with you. There is just something about him that reminds me of Stone.

That’s what I was thinking; related to Stone. I like him already. Time will tell what/how the GH writers write for him though. An attractive actor with screen presence in nothing without a storyline.

Hmm. Him and sonny both lost someone. Could lily have maybe gotten out of the exploded car?? Maybe griffin is sonny’s son and that’s why they bonded so well..

Ooooh, I like this possibility!

Sonny really does not need any more kids Let him be related to someone else, like Mac, maybe.

Another sonny offspring ? God no! The show would have to be called ” all my (sonny) children”. Wasn’t that soap cancelled.? Let’s not go there pleaaase!!!

Too funny, Aria.

Oh no. It’s a clever idea but I am really tired of impossible back-from-the-dead scenarios. As soap fans, we are all used to stretching the limits of believability, but the back-from-the-dead stories are out of control — especially on GH. The only BFTD storyline I really liked was Duke’s — and they wasted that by killing him off again! I will NEVER understand or forgive that decision. Same with AJ. They went to all that trouble to bring him back only to dispense with him months later. I’m surprised Monica hasn’t had a nervous breakdown by now.

I know I brought up the idea of our new doctor bringing Robin back if there was a Stone connection. It was more to give some legitimacy to a Robin return if Kim wants to come back again for a couple weeks…again. Like you I’m really over Robin, and for me, Luke as well.

There was an immediate connection between Sonny and the new doctor in the Chapel. It almost reminded me in a weird way of Jacob/werewolf “imprinting” Bella’s baby in Twilight. It’s done.

Love me some Robin, Rose. But come on, all these comings and goings are obnoxious. Sometimes it seems like a call for attention.

That was the original plan for Sabrina, and that went over like a Led Zeppelin!! I always reiterate this…NO ONE LIKED THE CHARACTER OF LILY!!!!!!!!!! Sonny himself didn’t like Lily!! She was a wishy washy, passive aggressive manipulative wimp who settled for a man that didn’t love her and sat pathetically in a loveless marriage. Her character never clicked with anyone, and was mercifully written off. Her death was much more impressive than her life on screen ever was. Thanks to SUPERB writing, pacing, and directing, that Clink Boom episode where she died was one of those hallmark daytime moments that is always remembered. But after that, the show immediately rewrote history, and made Lily into this lovingly remembered, delicate cherished flower, this revered angel who was a blessing to everyone and enriched everyone’s lives. Sonny mourned her continuously. The only reason Sonny even cared one bit for Lily was the fact that she was carrying his child and they both died. Sonny has often used Lily’s death as a means for sympathy. Countless regimes have upheld this Angel with Wings Lily fallacy. If the show was going to go that route, they should have done it instead of Dante. But they didn’t, and it is too late. Sonny has three kids. I say three because it’s true. Many viewers will jump on me and say “No, he has 5.” But I say “Oh no he doesn’t.” No one can convince me that Avery is not Morgan’s son and that Carly somehow tampered the results to protect Morgan from Ava. And also, no matter how much hanging someone on a meathook, threatening him with death, and forcing him to sign over rights to his child may count as legal in Port Charles, that doesn’t fly. Sonny is Michael’s kidnapper…not his father. And it grinds my gears to no end that Michael has seemingly whole heartedly forgiven Sonny for murdering his real father. Any time someone goes on and on about what a great father Sonny is/was, I almost scream “WHEN?!?!?!?! When was Sonny EVER a good father? To ANY of his kids?” Certainly not then they were being shot (by other people and by Sonny himself!), kidnapped, tortured, stalked, raped in prison, lying in coma’s, etc etc ALL because of Sonny’s choice of business. I have watched all along, and I can’t recall one scene where Sonny was EVER a good father. Sure, after each violent incident that he either directly or indirectly caused, he would show up grief stricken, pray in the chapel, and then vow to murder whoever hurt his kids. That does NOT count as good parenting. He was never concerned with raising Michael, he was eerily obsessed with Michael. Michael only ever mattered to him insomuch as he could keep AJ away from him, like a trophy. A good father puts his child’s interests first….not repeatedly watching your children get almost murdered due to YOUR line of work, and then claiming there is NOTHING you can do to get out, or change it. Sonny won’t leave the mob because he does not want to!! He is a power hungry, blood thirsty murderer, who almost gets giddy with glee sometimes while ordering a hit. Other times he is petulant and childish, screaming that he wants so and so dead! The mob is his baby, the only one he will ever love enough to devote himself to. So…enough kids for Sonny. On the whole, and especially after 20 years, We don’t need another presumed dead baby returning to life. It hasn’t worked out so well for Jake!

… Another thought I had too. I’m still leaning toward Stone for some reason. The Duke’s son twist is another interesting one.

How clever of the soap gods, to have this accidental first meeting between the new doc and Sonny. Each in the chapel for his own , whatever reason; but, both seeking peace and enlightenment. A very disconcerting conversation between these two. One helps people; the other kills them. Obviously, Dr. Munro will be assigned to Sonny, in some capacity??
I am already taken by the doctor, even before I knew who he was. And, not just because of his devastatingly and beautiful, virile face ( I love velvet black hair on a man). He has an ease with people that’s very comforting.
Restricting the plague in just the Biblical time is sort of short-sighted….famine, disease, etc. is the more tangible plague. But, to speak of it in such a setting, to me, it becomes much more deep…philosophical. We see plaque in our every-day lives. Everything around us bespeaks;…plague. Ironically enough, Sonny, a murderer, is in the house of God; He who forgives, yes. But, not those who are unrepentant, and who still contemplate doing wrong. How ironic is it, that THE PLAGUE is staring Dr. Munro in the face!?

Hey, CeeCeeGirl….We must be amongst the most recalcitrant of posters when it comes to the notion of regarding Sonny as anything but the lowlife thug he is….whilst others are getting caught up in the frenzy of all this symbolism over substance in new doc’s initial appearance vis a vis with “St. Dimples” himself, I’m thinking here we go again…..yet another “Sonny-centric” character added to the ever-expanding Corinthos-oriented orbit. I hope I am wrong….but could this guy perhaps be attached to the story idea that MB pitched and recently mentioned??? All I know for certain is the name of “Griffin Munro” sounds far more NASCAR driver than neurosurgeon to me….just saying! LOL….

Can I join that club—the Recalcitrant Sonny Objectors? It sounds like a club I REALLY need to belong to.

Maybe we can offer group therapy for getting over how icky we feel after spending time in Port Charles’s world of warped morality? Special hazmat suits with extra ethical reinforcement that we can wear while we watch? A support group, with sponsors we can call when we feel particularly unsettled by an episode filled with Sonny worship?

Count me in.

Hello, my love.
Snowy morning….Anyway….pathetic, is it not ? You may have read my feelings about Sonny and his philosophy, in the abstract, LOL. There is no other way to describe it. We all aspire to that eternal peace and well-being….the existential part of us reaching for an answer as to our being and essence. As Rose puts it: la raison d’être.
That’s fine and well that the TPTB would tackle such a profound inner ‘pang’/feeling. My problem is Sonny. The wrong person altogether to use as an example.
At the risk of sounding repetitious, looking deeply into one’s heart and soul…..seeing one’s life flash before one’s eyes, should be a deterrent from continuing or thinking about revenge and doing more harm, no? Well, not Sonny. Never have I seen more hypocrisy within one character….well, perhaps Victor Newman; Stefano DiMera and Victor Kiriakis. Ciao, bella.

Hi Shay, remember one thing, connecting a new character with a legacy character usually helps him or her ease their way onto the scene. Remember on Y&R when Dylan came to town. He was a bust and they switched his background up to be connected to Nicki and Paul.

Griffin Monro, I bought shocks off him last week! No, wasnt he a character on “Gomer Pyler?” Wait, maybe he used to work on that farm with Sharon’s old squeeze, Sam? OMG, remember how bad that story was? Later.

@Timmm…..I’m all for the “legacy connection,” but if it will be yet another Sonny-centric one, then that’s where I’m less than enthused. That is no slam to MB, the actor….by all accounts, he’s a perfectly lovely guy….it’s just that his character has no redeeming values, despites the gargantuan efforts to make it seem otherwise. There are already far too many people with links to “Planet Sonny”…..there are plenty of other families to whom newbies can be enjoined…Hardy, Webber, Jones, Quartermaine, and yes, even Cassadine. Furthermore, this doc dude could easily be a brother to Nathan based upon his looks. Who says Dr. O. didn’t have twins or another child out of wedlock in addition to Britt and Detective West? As for “Griffin Munro,” the name does have a bit of a “good ol’ country boy” flavor to it….hence the NASCAR reference! Needless to say, he’s gonna be revving up someone’s engine, that’s for sure…..it’s just a matter of ascertaining exactly to whom said machinery shall belong!

@Michael (not Fairman)
‘How sweet it is’, Michael, seeing what I’m thinking in writing. LOL. I am just nonplussed, at this point. What is it that TPTB are trying to do? Impress upon the viewer that Sonny is really this religious guy, deep in his heart? That he has a relationship with God? That God forgives him his trespasses and indiscretions because Sonny believes in God? Ergo, the viewer will forgive and forget by accepting Sonny for what he is? Embrace his essence? That’s what the ‘mise en scene’ in the chapel was all about, as far as I’m concerned.
The philosophical aspect/symbolism, just doesn’t jive. Later.

Hey, CeeCeeGirl….Snow day! I love them….LOL! Oh yes, I hear you about the gross hypocrisy of Sonny as a man having some magnificent religious epiphany….especially when one knows it won’t last any longer than a New York minute once he wheels beyond the doors of that chapel!!!! It will simply be back to usual business…and I don’t mean “coffee importing!” Sadly, this tortured, tedious path which Sonny chose decades ago is so “set in stone”—no pun intended there—-that no reinvention, religious or otherwise, shall ever be credible, even if sincerely meant. It’s just this never-ending vicious circle of violence ….been there, done there, over and over and over again. After so many years, the plot device of a redemptive Sonny has worn mighty thin, so excuse my skepticism. This oft-used hackneyed notion has completely turned me into a “Doubting Thomas.” Later, mia amica!

Yeah CeeCee we know you have a weakness for doctors! [Hi Jude!] I like how you pointed out, one helps them and one kills them! we dont know Griiffin yest so you never know! For now though, he kills you with his dimples! And velvet black hair? You must have liked/like ELVIS!

Correction for Harry! We dont know Griffin YET!

I love ELVIS, my Timmmy, albeit he colored his hair. I am the opposite of Shay, she lives the Nordic look; such ad my brothers. HaHa! Luv-ya.

I knew there was a COUPLE reasons I loved you! An Elvis fan! I am so impressed that you knew he colored his hair. He did it at such a young age to.

Hey, my guy:
This is from memory: Elvis died in August of ’77 of a ( seemingly) heart attack. He loved gospel music…cut a 45 and ran with it in, I think, 1956. He loved his mother to pieces. Was in the army; stationed in Germany, where he met Priscilla Beaulieu….she was only fourteen. ….Took her back to the States and moved her in Graceland. Married in ’68 and Lisa Marie was born 9 months later.
Is that somewhat accurate? I have every ‘record’ he ever cut, and I know all his songs by heart.
I also saw all his movies. He had affairs left and right and that’s why Priscilla divorced him.
His voice was/is haunting.
I told you my grandmother has a vast collection of opractically all genre of music. But, she is a true rocker at heart. You should see her platform shoes, fringed suede minis and vests. She kept everything ….in trunks. She also tells me all about the defunct soaps and how they were such an important part of her life. And, she was at Woodstock!!
Say, do you love me more now? LOL. Night, love.

Elvis is dead? Thats news to me sweet Cee! Your Elvis facts are correct. Yes, I love you even more! You and Shay could equally pine over “The King” because he was born and grew up as a dirty blonde [Shay] and went jet black in 56. [Cee] They credit Elvis for being the first music artist to bling it out with his jewelry and cars but to read about his trips to the salon, he may have been the first metrosexual. Ryan Seacrest, eat your heart out! TCB baby!

Timmmy, my love.
I am a wheat-colored blonde….so light, in fact that I tone it down to ash-blonde.
Elvis just may have been, as you say, the first metrosexual. His backside ( before the weight gain) was the subject of wonder, admiration and adoration.
But, speaking of music, that is exactly what is missing from soaps today. I remember when almost every soap had a singer in the house. My Gran says that on Days, Patty Weaver and Gloria Loring made her day whenever they sang on the show. Then there’s Michael Damian; Y&R… Kassie DePaiva, OLTL…Rick Springfield and Jack Wagner, GH, to name a couple.
What happened? I suppose budget cuts come into play.
Later, my love.

CeeCee, why did the blonde climb up on the roof? SHE HEARD THE DRINKS WERE ON THE HOUSE! Wheat-colored blonde! I still love you! 1968, The Comeback Special on NBC, Elvis never looked better! He was decked out in black leather from head to toe! Maybe Sam is channeling her inner Elvis? Yes, I spoke at the end of last year about couples not having a song anymore. I suspect you are right, it probably comes down to money and time. But yes, GH had an amazing run with Springfield, Martin and Wagner. What a group! Maybe Wally Kurth will come back to GH and him and Dylan can start a band channeling ELO and call it ELQ. They can cover “Telephone Line” and dedicate it to Rosalie because for all we know, she is still tapping ELQ’s phones! Where the hell has she and Brad been? Later love.

I’m impressed. Can’t wait to see more of him!

Well I lost the office pool– I said he be shirtless by his fourth scene, but not only did he keep his shirt on — his first scenes were in a chapel–LOL. A new day has definitely dawned on GH— I hope I have better luck with my Super Bowl pick– Go Broncos.

I think he’s a relative of Stone and Jagger’s maybe a brother? He looks like both of them. Loved his interaction with Sonny.

Why couldn’t he be a Patrick recast? I mean, it’s un-ignorable how he looks like Jason Thompson. Couldn’t they say that Robin had to go away for a while and say that Patrick decided to stay in Port Charles for a while but stays permanently when he discovers that Robin is pregnant with someone’s baby. Also I have to argue with the fact that Jason Thompson is Billy Abbott. I mean he looks nothing like the last few actors that play his current character!

Matt Cohen looks too young to be Patrick.

I honestly don’t think he looks anything like Patrick. Have not been a long time follower of Y&R, but even though Jason Thompson doesn’t look like Billy, it seems like he is capturing his personality and attitude pretty well.

No, please, no more recasting. Glad he wasn’t. Glad Patrick is happily ever living in Berkeley with his family.

of course we all will love him
he was introduced to us in a chapel praying, it was designed for our hearts to embrace him and accept him, how could not love a holy man.. lol

Make up your mind, SuzieQ. You want a bad boy or a good boy…little bit of both?

hi CeeCee,, i was being sarcastic.. lol luv my bad boy 🙂
J-S should be slapped for what they’ve done to my bad boy Sonny, its disgraceful and shameful!
Soon Sonny will be wearing sandals and walking around with an iridescent gold light around him..

@su0000
I know, my little SuzieQ. I was going right along with your sarcasm. Look at me: now I have two hunks to worship…Nathan and Doc Munro…gotta run, babes.

Sonny is the Oprah Winfrey of daytime

Su? What exactly have they done to him that you feel is so unforgivable? He is still mean, arrogant, vile, greasy, narcissistic, disgusting, hypocritical, self-centered, emotionally abusive, still issuing death threats for no reason whatsoever…in other words, he’s Sonny! Regimes change…Sonny doesn’t. What I want to know is why you still claim you’re female.

LOL I swear he reminded me of Stone!! Major Sonny/Stone vibes going on in their scenes!! And I wasn’t even watching when Stone was on but have seen scenes with the Aids storyline. He even looks like Stone! Can’t wait to see more scenes with him and Sonny!!

Ya…MORE Sonny. Exactly what fans have been clamoring for.

I had to research this Stone person everyone is talking about. Yes, Griffin does look a bit like him. I actually agree with Tristan……he bears a resemblance to Duke, ‘especially the hair’ (lol, as Rose pointed out), as a young man.

Michael, it is too soon to say as WE ‪#‎GH‬ Fans are the most loyal and vocal about OUR SOAP!!!

If he went to school with Lucas that would make him too young to have know Stone well. I bet he lost someone him and Lucas know.

True, because Ryan Carnes and Matt Cohen are the same age in real life…

I think he’s incredibly handsome and could have been related in some way to Stone, since he died in 1995, 21 years ago, he could have been about 3-4 yrs old or more….a baby brother maybe? I’d also think he’d be at LEAST 26-30 to be a neurosurgeon. Just saying. 🙂

The actor in real life is 33 — pretty young to be an accomplished neurosurgeon but what the heck! So was Patrick when he first arrived. That would make him 12 when Stone died. The connection could work.

I’m reserving judgement until we actually see what the writers do with the character — remember the character of Darby that Jean and Shelley introduced? Apparently neither do they…

Yes, but I’m glad they’ve forgotten her!

Lol, I agree Alan.

Good casting.

I hope so, Mike. I don’t know anything about this actor. So far, I like him….especially his looks. But, that’s the superficiality in me…LOL.

Like him a lot already. He was introduced to the audience perfectly & I’m excited to learn more about him soon…

When he first appeared I thought of a cross between Lou Diamond Phillips and “Casey the Alien!” I like him. He is handsome and can act. When he is on screen he demands attention because of his looks and his style. He could be gay. Not saying since he is friends with Lucas he must be but its a possibility. Lucas needs a story. I really like the actor. Griffin could end up with Liz. I think its inevitable that Jason and Sam end up together. Maybe Sonny introduces Dr. Munro to Kristina? Hmmm.

Kristina is in Lust/Love with Parker…when speaking to her sweet
sister Molly, nasty Krissy’s feelings were so obvious.

which could go a long way in explaining… Kristina’ feelings

the nastier and or withholding of ; feelings stuck; repressing your own and lashing out ?!?!

either way.. it’s just nice to see Kristina’ return… with a REEL that’s got every one wagging and LOL festering to see the outcome

kudos to Lexie Ainsworth for her return REEL

Fanny, people comment about Kristina’s sexuality and her past boyfriends BUT she has been away at college and she is young. Those years away by yourself sometimes take you down different paths. Sometimes you regret it, sometimes you embrace it! I think she possibly experimented with a woman OR wants to and this is where she is at. She could be bi but we dont know yet. She is fixated on Parker, for sure. I like the story because it involves a lot of the cast.

I agree, Fanny. I don’t like the ‘tigress’ in Kristina, or her rebellion toward Molly. She continually bares her teeth at her…the old cliche’…..”The lady doth protest too much”….But, after reading Timmm’s comment below, and agreeing with him, as well; it is very evident that the girl has huge issues; unsettled issues which have her going everywhichway. She is struggling with herself…confused as heck. This story could be so compelling if handled the right way.
Later, my sweet lady.

Pretty good week for GH.

Doctor Griffin Munro has arrived to Port Charles! I really liked his scenes with Sonny/Lucas. He kinda looks like Nathan to me and a little like McBain/Silas so maybe there is connection. A lot of people are predicting he might be Stone’s brother. GH is on a roll right now with these hot new characters (Andre, Curtis, Griffin) and the actors all seem to be good enough. Dr. Munro should be Nurse Webber’s next pairing and they can be the Derek/Meredith of the hospital.

I am finally getting invested in Morgan’s storyline and enjoyed the fact the writers showed a realistic side effect to his meds and Kiki’s reaction was done well once she knew what was going on.

Oh yeah! Kristina does have the hots for Parker! This is my favorite storyline on the show and so glad we got some confirmation. Loved the scenes with the Davis sisters and Kristina and Molly are so beleivable as siblings.

Franco and Nina are the most improved characters on the show from last year and one of the better couples on daytime right now. They are so honest and so soulful with each other in the way they look and speak to each other. Roger and Michelle give more than 100% in their scenes cause they are just so spot on in telling the Nico love story. I always worry when I love a couple and the baby talk comes up when they are happy cause sometimes it leads to breakups if they aren’t on the same page and something goes wrong. We will see what happens in the months ahead with this golden couple but I can’t imagine this ending with a Franco and Nina split.

Sonny and Carly arriving at the hospital for Jason was a welcomed sight. Carly is my favorite female on the show and it is very much in character for her to drop the animosity and comfort Liz with Jake is bad shape. Jake confessing to killing Sam to Liz was a good cliffhanger. I can’t beleive my poor Sam is still on the ground in that basement and in a house that could potentially burn to the ground but thankfully here comes Jason to the rescue to save her.

I agree with almost all of that. I am beyond dick n tired of characters wanting babies and then they are completely out of sight afterward. It still drives me crazy how over the top MS acts in scenes too. Too much scenery chewing IMHO, I actually hope they pair Liz with a calmer Franco now that RH has toned it down a notch.

was Franco… telling Nina… he doesn’t want a child… a sign that all is not right in their orbit? that things are going to crash

I mean really… even Franco , realm of possibility … of overdrive and patience… that Nina isn’t

who hasn’t experienced “know when its over… when it’s time to call it quits… ”

yikes !

they are both in a good spot… able to mend and move

inasmuch as I LOVE Franco and Nina… I could see them trying other outlets.. and .. perhaps down the road apiece… they will solidify for themselves just how much share their loving each other complete

Hey, Ces.
I do not really like the prospect of Franco and Nina splitting up, but, I, too sense something going awry in that relationship. So, if that were to happen, I think Franco, the more ‘stable’ Franco would be ok with Liz, in my opinion. Later.

Oooh. Do you think Michael Easton’s new character will have some connection to Griffin?

His acting sucked …did not feel the love

OK… i’m spinning this

from what I can tell… (jubilantly celebrating) that he’s a person of color

however… is this taking away from Carlos ?!?!

would Carlos have made more of an impact had he not been a mobster

Reminded me of Stone Cates and a younger version of Jagger Cates. Brought back some nice memories of the 90’s-my favorite era, the Claire Labine and Wendy Riche era with some of my favorite characters and storylines: Sonny and Brenda, Ned and Lois, Eddie Maine, the Quartermaine’s, Luke’s Blue’s Club, Puerto Rico, etc. I remember rushing home from high school and tuning in every day, and recording it on my VCR-VHS tapes, haha!

Yes! Exactly!

As long as he’s not paired with elizabeth I’m happy, he doesn’t need to be wasted on her.

I think that maybe he will be a brother to the new mob king pin played by Michael Easton. He looks so much like both Michael Easton and also Nathan West. Maybe Nathan will turn out to be the son of Michael Easton’s character.

I think you may be right, but, please–no! No more mobsters! There are more than enough of them on the show already.

Does GH really need ANOTHER mob king? Come on. Aren’t TPTB trying to “reform” Julian and “soften” Sonny? So what’s the deal? I’d prefer a human interest story with Genie Francis, the best in the biz. I notice how great she is with Lulu and Nikolas–and am waiting for the reading of Helena’s will with Genie present. PS. I’m loving her quips and her zingers and her raised eyebrow which she is loosening up and using again. Go, Genie! I can only imagine the possibilities if TPTB would only “let you loose” with a good, meaty storyline. Writers, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR, PRAYTELL??

He’s nice to look at but let’s see how he is in acting. Too early to tell! He is Sonny’s long lost son…

He looks exactly like Stone who was one of my favorites. Maybe Helena brought him back to life??? Stranger things have happened. And I want the real Jadon back!!!!

He might just possibly be related to Stone; he mentioned losing loved ones, didn’t he?
I love his expressive face–and think that he has great possibilities–but we all know that “it’s all in the writing.” The responsibility thus lies in the writers’ hands–again!

I hope the new doctor turns out to be Stone!

Wow..what a thought.

First reaction was, “Is this a relative to Nathan?” He looks so much like him it’s uncanny!

Just read that he Matt Cohen screen tested with Emme Lu Ryan. Now that would be an interesting pairing! Lulu and Griffin. Can you imagine how insanely jealous Dante would be? Go Liffin! (Because Gulu doesn’t sound that great.)

I’m hoping the new doctor mat Cohen will be a child that Sonny knew nothing aboutand besides being a doctor he may be a priest because of their conversation about the holy necklace Matt wore I believe that would be a good story line

He looks a lot like Ana. Possibly her son with Duke taken by Helena Cassadine or Obrekt. Weirder things have happened. It was probably him following Anna. This would no doubt keep Anna at the forefront of storytelling now that Robin and Emma are gone. And finally give her a piece of mine about losing Duke.

i am glad 2 c matt cohen as griffin! i know him as john winchester from supernatural! he is a good actor, sexy and will add 2 the show! i like that he is a man of faith like sonny!

I find it amusing that folks take the characters so seriously as to moralize about them. There no absolutely 100% evil people or 100% good. Instead, Sonny, while certainly living a criminal lifestyle does have limits. I believe the character has some integrity and is not the coward that Julian Jerome has become. For one thing Sonny would never allow Carly to be arrested for a crime he committed and he would never attempt to harm any woman, let alone his wife. Sonny has been a multifaceted character from day one. Maurice Benard uses his facial muscles and subtle body language to show a depth to Sonny. I have grown to care about his fate and not because looks can only take an actor so far. Benard is and always was an incredibly talented actor.

Nancy Lee Grahn’s Star-Studded ALS Fundraiser Reveals “I’ll Be There” Video Featuring Soap Opera Notables

Talk about your impressive line-up! It’s a soap fans dream and for a great cause. General Hospital’s Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis) is prepping her one-night only ALS fundraiser which will feature many of her friends and co-stars.

The benefit is set for May 4th in Glendale, California. Slated to participate are Genie Francis, Jane Elliot, Peter Bergman, Maurice Benard, Eileen Davidson, Thorsten Kaye, Michelle Stafford, Stephen Nichols, Rena Sofer, Jason Thompson, Kelly Monaco, Melissa Claire Egan, Maura West, Kristina Wagner, Gregory Harrison, Trevor St. John, Kate Mansi, Kirsten Storms, Cynthia Watros, and many others.

On Wednesday, Grahn took to her social media and released an “I’ll be there” video shout-out featuring, Monaco, Elliot, Bergman, Bernard, West, Harrison, St. John and more. In a touching and important moment in the new video, Michelle Strogny, who is battling ALS, is featured.

Photo: ABC

Previously, in speaking with Soap Opera Digest on the impetus of the event, Grahn recalled, “I was actually doing Zoom events during Covid and I met this woman that I just fell in love with, Michelle Strojny. At the time, Michelle had been living with ALS for four years. Now, it’s five years. She is a mom of a teenage son, she has the most wonderful husband, and she has been dealing with this [disease] for quite a while. And obviously, there isn’t a cure yet. It’s not survivable yet. But as she says, it’s not incurable. Nothing is; it’s underfunded. But anyway, I just really dug this woman. She is so grounded and filled with grace, and she spends all of her time working to raise money for the cause. We did a fundraiser for her last year and then I thought, ‘You know what? The soaps don’t ever get together to do something for charity.’ Collectively, we have this amazing community and we don’t collectively use it for a good cause, and I think it’s such an easy thing for us to do and we could potentially really make a difference.”

As GH viewers know, Gregory Harrison is playing the character of Gregory Chase, who is also battling ALS in a touching storyline that is currently playing out shedding a light on this disease.

‘General Hospital’ Writer Shannon Peace Let Go, and Shares on Sprina: “One of My Only Regrets is to Not Have the Opportunity to Develop That ‘Ship’ Further”

As General Hospital’s new head writing team of Elizabeth Korte and Patrick Mulcahy gets off the ground and running, there are still changes a foot on the writing team.

Now comes word via breakdown writer Shannon Peace that she is no longer on contract with the long-running ABC soap heading into its 61st season. Peace shared a heartfelt message on her Instagram, thanking the fans, and the show for the opportunity and the importance of diversity in the writers room.

Peace began, “After almost 3 years on staff and 106 episodes penned, I am no longer on contract with General Hospital. Writing for this country’s longest running television serial drama has been an education of epic proportions; I will forever be grateful that I earned my WGA card on a daytime fixture that holds memories for so many.” (Peace pictured below with GH EP Frank Valentini and script writer, Charlotte Gibson from about ten months ago).

Shannon added “Even more importantly, as the sole Black breakdown writer (and only POC in the writers room) during my tenure, I pushed for vital interactions and discussions that prioritized inclusion, visibility, and representation”

The writer pointed to the example of vital interaction when in story, “Stella and Portia’s frank July 2022 conversation about the role race played in Esme’s framing of Trina is just one example of the impact I’m gratified to have had.”

Acknowledging former GH co-head writers was also part of Peace’s farewell expressing, “Appreciation to my former bosses, Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor – not only taking a chance on me, but for valuing my opinion and championing my voice.”

Many GH fans know that Peace was key to the development of the love story between Trina Robinson and Spencer Cassadine as played by Tabyana Ali and Nicholas Chavez. Shannon gave a special shout-out to ‘Sprina’ fans, “I also want to thank fans who were supportive of my work, especially the recognition of my love for ‘Sprina’. One of my only regrets is not having to develop that ‘ship’ further.”

She concludes her statement with,”In the aftermath of a historic writer’s strike that shed new light on the troubling ways writers are regarded in daytime, my sincere hope is that General Hospital recommits to valuing staff writer efforts and input, with a more intentional focus on diverse viewpoints — and thrives for another 60 years.”

Accompanying her post, Shannon added, “Thank you all for the love and support these last few years. I hope GH fans get all they hope for and more!”

So, what do you think about GH not renewing Shannon’s contract? Will there be more continued changes afoot? What do you think is the future of ‘Sprina’ anyway at this point as viewers wait to see if Nicholas Chavez officially returns to the show?  Comment below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Learns Britt Died and Tells Anna He Has Been Working For Cates Since November 2021

On the Tuesday, March 26th of General Hospital, Anna (Finola Hughes) and the viewers learn about where Jason (Steve Burton) has been for over two and half years. However, Jason gets some news of his own.

Anna is visiting Jason at the PCPD interrogation room. She asks him if he shot Dante (Dominic Zamprogna), which he flatly denies. Anna believes him, but she tells Jason it doesn’t matter, because video footage shows him on the roof at the time of the shooting

When talk turns to Jason not willing to speak without his lawyer present, Anna can’t grasp why Jason would instead spend an hour alone talking with John Cates (Adam J. Harrington).

It is then that Anna brings up that John went by “Jagger” and that the two of them knew each other in high school. Jason doesn’t recall much of his time in high school following his brain injury, but then he gets furious realizing John knew about “Jason’s” past. That is when Jason slams the table and tells Anna, “I’ve been working for John Cates since November 2021.”

Next, Jason explains further that he has been working as an informant for the FBI. Anna wants to know how this came about and he tells her that after the tunnel collapsed, and he couldn’t make it to Britt (Kelly Thiebaud)… all of a sudden he sees Anna’s face drop.  Anna is the first person to tell him that Britt died and was murdered. She tells Jason the killer is in custody, but he continues to be shocked, overwhelmed with tears welling up in his eyes. Realizing he has to pivot to save his life, Jason continues telling Anna how he wound up working with John.

Jason explains that after the tunnel collapse in Greece, FBI agents grabbed him and placed him under arrest and took him to Quantico where he met John. At Quantico, John played a recording of RICO violations and offered Jason a deal if he agreed to be an informant against Pikeman, the illegal arms dealer.

Anna hears from Jason that he thinks Pikeman is selling illegal arms to anyone flagged by the NSA but has ties to the WSB which they needed a civilian to infiltrate their organization as a military soldier, a mercenary.

Jason tells Anna he was a part of the team brought into eliminate Sonny (Maurice Benard). Every time an attempt was made on Sonny’s life over the last two years, a different team was sent to do the job. Anna gets furious when she learns that John told Jason his job was to kill Sonny and she was with John at the warehouse that night. Jason ensured the sniper missed Sonny and left the rifle behind. However, they were supposed to meet an extraction team. Before he was shot, Dante saw it was Jason on the roof and when he turned around with his hands over his head, Dante was shot by the other guy. Jason says if Dante dies, he’ll be charged with capital murder and then will be useless to the FBI.

Meanwhile, John visits Bobbie’s and runs into Carly (Laura Wright). She learns Jason is in custody and is going to head to the PCPD. Before she does, Carly has some words with Cates when she learns not only does John have a vendetta against Sonny, but Jason too.  Carly tells John he should recuse himself from the case.

So, what did you think about the moment when Jason learned Britt died? What do you think of Jason’s return storyline thus far and what we learned about Jagger/Jason and more? Comment below. But first, check out a moment from today’s GH with Jason and Anna.
