NBC Renews Days of our Lives For Season 52!

After the future of Days of our Lives remained in question, following NBC’s recent acquisition of Megyn Kelly to the day-part, it turns out to today is a good day for fans of the long-running NBC soap opera.

The network announced DAYS has been officially renewed for its 52nd season. In a press release statement, Jennifer Salke, President, NBC Entertainment noted: We feel so privileged to be able to continue the remarkable legacy of Days of our Lives. We thank Ken Corday and his team for their incredible accomplishments and look forward to all the stories from Salem that will continue to unfold.”

DAYS executive producer Ken Corday expressed on the renewal pick-up: “It’s a great day in Salem! We’re pleased to announce that after more than 51 years in the hearts and homes of our amazing fans, Days of our Lives will continue to be part of the NBC family. We are grateful to our incredible network and longstanding partner Sony for their continued support, and we look forward to what the future will bring under the new creative direction of the show. I’m especially proud to be able to shepherd Days into the new season, continuing my parents dream and the show’s legacy.”

Steve Kent, Senior Executive Vice President, Programming, Sony Pictures Television, added, “Days of our Lives has a legacy of rich storytelling that has traveled across generations. Ken Corday and the cast and crew continue to deliver dynamic storylines and unforgettable performances, and we are proud to continue to bring this award-winning series to audiences both in the U.S. and around the world.”

With the renewal pick-up and a new creative team led by former OLTL and GH head writer, Ron Carlivati along with Sherri Anderson Thomas and Ryan Quan, now the series has the opportunity to present to their audience exciting and reinvigorated storytelling.

This is wonderful news, Days ratings will go up and up with Ron. Days is a terrific soap. Time to bring back Vivian Alamain, Ron please call Louise Sorel and bring back my madam. Oh bring back her side kick Ivan.

I agree Claudio, Vivian and Ivan need to come back to DOOL. They were so fun to watch.

Re-Ron nearly destroyed GH with his buffoonish brand of writing, but at Days it’s “ratings will go up and up”? They have to go “up and up” just to reach below average. This clearly reeks of desperation by Ken Corday/NBC/Sony to save the show. I’m so sick of these same-old hack writers getting second, third, and even fourth chances writing for these soaps when there are so many young up-and-coming writers with fresh ideas who are never given an opportunity. No wonder the genre is in such bad shape.

Great idea to bring back Vivian and Ivan with Ron C. writing! Bring back the original Celeste too if she’s up to returning.

Vivian said she wouldnt be back after being fired in 2012 no way to write her in now anyways

Fantastic news! For Ken Corday: Days is in our hearts and we are glad to go on those great character journeys with you–recently the re-wedding of Kayla and Patch. Thanks for wonderful memories, romances, fantasies. I cherish them–and look forward to many, many more.

Did Kayla and Steve get married? I mean, it never aired for me so did they actually get married or are they lost in space somewhere trying to get to the altar? 😉

Yes, they married this past Thursday, Mo. You can watch it at NBC.com or download the free app.

Thank you NBC, for renewing Days Of Our Lives. I am thrilled Days is staying on the air. Now they need to change the taping schedule. Change it to 2 months ahead. Bring back Jack and calliope Jones.

Exciting news, but it’s actually renews for the 53rd season! DAYS is contracted for another 18 months!

*renewed

Not arguing, but how did you figure that?

i believe we are going to get a ‘Who killed Deimos” plotline…i think it will be Chloe who will become unbalanced fearing Nicole will attempt to take Holly from her so she frames Nicole for killing Deimos and then when Chloe is found out Nicole will get Holly!!!

I love it, Jimmy, but you already knew I would!

THIS IS AWESOME! Now Bring John and Marlena front and center. It’s time to give Patch/Kayla a rest. Some of thee fans are stuck in the 80s, and he has NOT matured as a character. Bring back Cassie Brady and Billie Reed as the new bad girls in Salem. Bring back Sami OR Carrie permanently. Shawn and Belle need to return with AWESOME story. Amp up Rafe/Hope, reveal that Will is alive. Also bring back humor and romance. Paging Vivian Alamain! We need one or 2 hot love triangles. Bring back Peter Blake in the form of Michael Muheney, OR bring back EJ and recast him with Simon from ATWT! Also bring back Kristen DiMera!! Please and Thanks!

Drake (John) was seriously injured on-set and that is why he hasn’t been seen on-screen as he was recovering. He is back filming.

The best news this year,. I had a really good feeling that DOOL was not getting cancelled. The haters must be pissed, that Days got renewed. I watch Days and Y&R. I still miss AMC and OLTL.

That’s great news. Now, take a few months off from filming to get closer to air date. This will allow for adjustments to storylines that might not be working.

In new issue of SOD, Ken Corday says they tape so far in advance because of costs so I doubt that will change. They tape 8 episodes a week. I too wish they weren’t so far in advance so changes could be quickly made when something isn’t working.

I remember when Belle was recast and they hired Charity Rahmer who was awful and we had to sit through months of her before her replacement Martha Madison aired.

Charity Rahmer was on DAYS for 3 weeks, Mo.

Well, it was 3 weeks of pure torture. Felt like much longer!

I truly hope Ron can bring some good story telling to this soap. It was dreadful before the ridiculous decision to bring Hingley back and even more so during her time. It will take some creative undoing of the damage she did in such a short period of time.

Agree!!!!!!

Very happy and please let nicole get holly soon!!

Best news in the last 2 years! I have watched Days since it’s premier episode, pening scene on Tom and Alice’s front porch. First big story, Julie stealing the fur stole from the department store. I am 68 and still love Days!

so thrilled and happy for the cast , crew , writers , behind the scenes people , sony and nbc ! very good and wise decision . now make the year ahead exciting : we want love , romance and candlelight lovemaking scenes with candles , we want the screen lit up ( too dark ) : light it up like it was lit up during paul rauch”s run as executive producer on young and restless , bring us action , adventure , humor , excitement , make the characters more energized and passionate , enrich these characters personality dimensions , hire actors who can act with solid theatre background . please fix the accompanying music on the soap as well , it also a drama so a shocking music tune needs to be put in when a big secret comes out or some drama unfolds , put some music to accompagny the other scenes too : santa barbara , bold and beautiful and young and restless worked wonders in that regard back in the 80’s : bring back jack allocco , dominic messinger . watch the stories told by young and restless , bold and beautiful , santa barbara and guiding light to give you ideas ( stories from the 70’s and 80’s ) . with some passion and vision Days can be here to stay for many more years !

Oh Nicholas, I SO AGREE WITH YOU regarding the music for DOOL, it’s horrible and I would love for Jack Allocco, Dominic Messinger be hired at DOOL to handle the music…I wish Y&R would hire them back for the background score makes a world of difference. I feel B&B and GH are the 2 soaps with the best background music scores…I feel like Y&R had the best until Jack and David left.

Very happy it was renewed.

I am very glad, I been watching DAYS for 45 years and can’t wait to get home ever day to watch it, Congratulations on your 52nd Year.

I’m glad to read about the renewal; that gives Ron the chance to work his magic!

Amen to that, Ron will be terrific. I have faith in Ron. So happy Days got renewed.

Ron’s “magic” will make the show disappear permanently, lol. He nearly destroyed GH toward the end of his run there, and now two years later is hired by another soap? Unbelievably pathetic. This has to be a desperate, final Hail Mary attempt to save Days, but I think too much damage has already been done to the show over the last 1-2 years to undo.

I truly don’t get the fascination with this man. IMO, he’s an overrated writer with his ridiculously cartoonish plot lines, many of which on GH ignored its history and vets. Not to mention he has a massive ego and rips fans who make respectful suggestions to him on Twitter. What a class act, not.

Pat, I too agree with you on Ron…not my type of writing at all…

I agree with you both of you! Horrors!

Congratulations to Days of Our Lives and its devoted fan base!

So glad..Not surprising since they hire Ron C…He will give new life to the show, but he tends to get tacky and cartoonish as time goes on, but he is a good writer who is more refreshing than all the rest of the writing stable on Daytime soaps!!

I will be tuning in once his regime goes in effect..I wish DOOL will stop taping sooo far ahead..That is actually its biggest downfall!! The show announces some new casting news or writing/production changes and by the time it happens months later, the buzz is gone!!

Please don’t waste this chance which is probably the last.

This is great news for the cast, crew and fans. I have had the opportunity to meet the cast twice during the past few years and I am happy for all of them.

I have been a viewer since the days of Amanda, Greg, Chris, Julie, Doug, Don, Bob, Liz and Trish (almost 40 years). I have loved that “Days” is using their history to bring back Valerie Grant to mix it up with Julie. Susan Seaforth needs to be utilized more than comedy relief and for being a nosy relative. It is time the show uses her that way they found a jewel in Maggie after years of neglect. Julie could easily be the matriarch of the show. I would love to see Julie and Doug use the Martin House as a way to have several family members under one roof.

I think “Days” missed a huge opportunity of killing off David Banning. He obviously had a strained relationship with Julie and could have a lot of storyline with Julie, Valerie and his son. Didn’t he once have a rivalry with Mike Horton too? This could have been a great storyline with many layers.

As much as I love many of the legacy characters, it is time to realize that most of our favorites were popular 30+ years ago. I want an age-appropriate storyline for Marlena and John that doesn’t have to do with his heritage. I want to see family dynamics with Jennifer and Hope. It is time to trim the cast and realize that some of that money needs to be spent on the future of the show. Is there anyone out there that believes Claire, Theo, Jade and Joey are bringing in ratings? Please listen to your audience. This rapidly-aged teen set is NOT working.

The Chloe/Nicole baby storyline feels like a “been there, done that” storyline that has used too many times. Let’s see Nicole back in the business world and show here strengths. I do not want to watch her crying for weeks over not having her baby. Chloe being awarded custody was crazy. Doesn’t she have drugs and prostitution on her resume?

I can’t wait to see what Ron C. has in store for the show. Let’s hope that it is the reboot that the show needs and Ken Corday doesn’t have to deliver another “hang in there” interview again next year. I want the show to have a larger budget to have a few remote shots. I am so tired of seeing Horton Square, the park, the Brady Pub and Victor’s living room. I also want to see better continuity. Was Hope and Rafe really dancing two scenes later after finding out David (Hope’s cousin) had died in a motorcycle crash?

Lastly, recast EJ or bring back Peter Blake and let Kristen DiMera have more great scenes with Brady. If Jen Lilly does not want to come back, recast the role. I would also love to see Eve come back to town and have a storyline that is worthy of her talent. It would also be good to see Cassie and Rex come back to town. Kate is better dealing with family matters than sleep walking through her scenes with Eduardo.

Deimos will be murdered and Nicole will be framed for the crime by Chloe who actually killed Deimos during a sruggle…she is going insane and desperate to keep Nicole away from Holly…ok, i made this up-lol

Please don’t squander this last opportunity. Ron should shelve the rest of this writing regime’s stories and rebuild from the ground up. Need to shift focus to the Belle/Shawn generation and put the oldies in the background. Hope, Marlena and the others of that generation have had their Days. The eighties are long over! Time to contemporize the show and bring it into the 21st century. Oh, and give Nicole her baby. Chloe is a kidnapper- put her in jail!

I definitely agree about Hope, does Ken Corday have a thing for her? I’m tired of her being on the front burner ALL THE TIME!!!

I believe this is nothing more than a brief stay of execution, postponing the inevitable. This is undoubtedly sink or swim time for Days, and will be its absolute FINAL chance to survive. The ratings are still very poor from what we see posted here each week. Quite frankly, based on these numbers you’d have to be naive to think that NBC executives are 100% (or even 75%) happy with the show’s performance. Obviously, they were somehow able to agree with Sony on a bargain-basement licensing fee that makes financial sense for both sides. I truly wonder how much lower they had to go in an effort to offset such poor ratings and surely diminished ad revenue.

I believe that this decision has everything to do with the ridiculously long 5-6 month period of time ahead that the show tapes. Reportedly, episodes to air in early July have already been taped! Even though the show’s contract was due to expire this September, TPTB at NBC and Sony almost certainly realized that that would not be an adequate period of time to wrap up the show. Ron Carlivati has a ton of work to do in such a short period of time to repair all the damage that has been done to the show by the previous inept writing regime. And based on Re-Ron’s arrogant attitude toward fans (peons) who have the audacity to give him constructive criticism on Twitter and how he ruined GH with his constant nonsensical brand of writing before he was booted out of there not even 2 years ago, I’m honestly not optimistic at all. Sorry.

How many reboots, restarts, and staff changes has Days endured in the last 5 years? Can’t these soaps for once hire some new, young blood instead of hiring the same old hacks who fail at another show and are clearly out of touch with modern times? I don’t trust Ken Corday, who has shown over and over again that he’s out of touch and doesn’t care one iota about what fans want to see.

Agreed, Days has turned into an unwatchable dumpster fire. The ship is sinking.

Agree here too…Don’t watch anymore.

Nick…AGREED!!!!! To me, DOOL has gotten WAY TOO RIDICULOUS!!!!! Oh…and BTW…’unwatchable dumpster fire’…GOOD ONE…AND A VERY, VERY ACCURATE DESCRIPTION!!!!!

Later, dude.

Great news indeed, but it wasn’t exactly a secret. You don’t bring in RC without some assurance that more sand exists in the hourglass. That being said, this is DAYS’ last best chance to flourish. Let’s hope they don’t blow it, because daytime TV needs Salem, IL to be around as long as possible

I had to reply here, Troy.

DAYS’ contracts begin in September because each television season begins in September. Because DAYS tapes an average of 5-6 months ahead of airtime, they come up with a contract deal no later than the February before the September ending contract. DAYS still has the rest of this month through September before the previous contract runs out. The newest renewal begins in September and runs through September of 2018, so that’s roughly 18 more months of DAYS unless it is renewed next Februarary for beginning next September.

DAYS premièred on November, 8 of 1965, so it’s first season was only about ten months (November 1965- September 1966). After that, all seasons were beginning in September and ending in September.

Because DAYS’ first season began in 1965, the upcoming season will be the 53rd season.

I know you’re not arguing, but a little argument never hurt anyone, has it?

When is Ron material starting? Inwill tune in

Hooray days is the BEST!

Very happy about this news. Don’t watch Days but I’m happy it’s sticking around. The daytime drama is an all American icon.

I am so very happy that DAYS will remain on the air! I have watched the show for a really long time and feel strongly that the actors and actresses are part of my family!!! I have laughed, cried tears of joy and cried tears of happiness. I cannot express how glad I am that my DAYS family will still visit my home daily and they will always be a welcome part of my day. Thank you to the writers who have always written such realistic and believable storylines, thanks to the actors for the unparalleled jobs they all do and thank you to all of the normally unsung heros who work hard behind the scenes to make the show so great! I am proud to have been a loyal fan for almost 50 years and ecstatic to be able to continue as a loyal fan in the future.

I am so excited to hear this wonderful news. I am the third generation watcher in my family. Days is the longest running soap, if my mind recalls correctly. I just cannot imagine it not being there. Thank you and I love the cast of Days.

Kathy, DAYS premiered in 1965 (as did I), but General Hospital was already two years old!

GH (04-01-63)
DAYS (11-08-65)

Age difference: 2 years, 7 months and 1 week!

Closer to 3 than 2 years, but who’s counting? lol

Yeeeeesssss!!

Chole is going to become unhinged and accidentally kill Deimos but it will look like murder…she frames ex friend Nicole who she fears will attempt to take baby Holly from her…Nicole will be found guilty and given the death penalty…but Brady will rush to the prison with proof Chloe killed Deimos…Nicole nearly dies from the lethal injection given her on a Friday cliffhanger but will be revived the following Monday but as we are about to see her revived the show is interrupted by a President Trump news conference-just joking around-lol

Everything you said, Jimmy. LOL

Great news! Happy to hear it.

So Davstelv1, NBC was going to cancel DOOL? Looks like your crystal ball didn’t work. Time to get a new one. Any other false claims you would like to make .

This is the best news I’ve heard ALL DAY, probably up there with the whole week!!! I love me my Days, and so happy that they are doing all they can to keep the final four on, and keeping them in the best shape possible. I hope Ron puts the funk in it like he did with GH and Oltl. This gives him a chance to do it all, very excited. I’m already watching and they are paying hard attention to the history, Shane’s Brother? I hope the battles between the families stop though. I also hope that Ron uses this opportunity to bring Jack back, in my opinion the biggest mistake made on the show, and Jennifer and her family and the show would only benefit from the return of this complicated character with a rich history of being a hero and a villain. He needs to stay this time. I am just excited the show is staying on though. I bet all those negative Nelles feel stupid now, or are just being negative somewhere else.

BEST NEWS EVER!!!!!!

I just new God would save it I just wish they would go back to the 60s 70s and 8os and look at the storys and use them today God can do anything you just have to belive

I was wondering if there is another soap site we could look at that tells the soap news this site is awsome but would be nice if there was a nother one

AWESOME!

Its a victory for daytime in general. Congrats to the DAYS fans and the actors who will stay employed!

This had to be a close decision for Sony and the network only because of the ratings. Still sucks that there’s no way to count the folks who record the shows on DVR or VHS which I am sure are still floating out there. I spoke to someone recently about how those numbers aren’t factored in and he thought that was a total rip-off. anyway, I am glad to know DAYS is going to still be on to give us more excitement and very good stories. Ron is going to shake things up in a good way!!!

I didn’t know people still used vcr’s/vhs!

Congratulations to the Cast and Crew, Management and the Loyal Fans of DOOL!

Great, great news! With us being down to only 4 soaps left (I watch them all) we can’t afford to lose one. I remember watching in the summers with my great-grandmother. We had to hurry up & finish lunch & sit on the couch & not make a sound while “her story” was on! Long live Days of Our Lives!

Was thrilled to be able to share this information with my grandma on her 97th birthday. She gets another year of “her stories”, God willing

ohhh…that really is nice! G-d willing, yes! 🙂

This is wonderful news!

I Agee with you 100%

Wow I’m impressed! Congrats to cast and crew and happy for the fans too. I’m looking forward to what Ron C. writes for Days.

I’d love to see Vivian, Ivan, Celeste, Carrie and Austin return for long term. And less Hope would be awesome.

great news, I was worried. It is my favorite show

I have been watching days for Generations I have always loved this show it’s the only one I follow is where I get a lot of my memories of my mother and grandmother not to mention great Aunt they were all Avid followers, losing Peter Reckell put a damper on everybody’s hard to us he was the spirit of Salem all my love and good wishes to your new riding team let it bring us back to our Glory Days

Sorry for not proof reading that should say heart writing and aunts

I DVR days, unfortunately I don’t get to watch it every day but I do still watch. DAYS AND GH!

I am so excited to learn of this, I have watched Days since I was a little girl with my grandmother, and now my daughter and I watch it, I love all of your characters and look forward to coming home after a long day working in surgery, to sitting down and turning on the tv and just getting lost in your drama and leaving my drama of work behind, and for that I thank you… So keep up the great work that you do.. And congratulations to all of you.. Sincerely a fan for life…

Totally disagree on that. I watch because I like to see my friends. The vetereanx d my friends. No Maggie of Jennifer Or Marla a I wouldn’t have reason to watch

Good work. I am for the most part enjoying most of the show. I just have one complaint. Re-Ron. When he first came on GH he did a great job, BUT. then he ruined it all. He seems to know the history of the show. Then he acts the fool, and everyone wants to kill him .Myself personally I like the oldsters, teens, and most history. I feel sorry for Nicole, whom I never liked before. Demios needs to be murdered. I also want jack to return. I do not like Hope with Rafe.

Days Of Our Lives

Wally Kurth Talks on His DAYS Daytime Emmy Nomination, His Emotional Scenes, and Remembering John Aniston

During our 2023 year-end honors at Michael Fairman TV, we named Wally Kurth as our pick for Best Overall Performance by an Actor for his double-turn as both Ned Quartermaine on General Hospital and as Justin Kiriakis on Days of our Lives. So, it was absolutely no surprise to us that Wally landed a Daytime Emmy nomination for his riveting work as a grieving Justin in the Supporting Actor category for the upcoming 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards.

On DAYS, Justin had been put through the emotional wringer, of first, losing his beloved Uncle Vic, played by the late John Aniston, and then finding out that Victor was the supposed biological father to Justin’s son, Alex (Rob Scott Wilson). If you didn’t reach for the hankies during some of Kurth’s work in these scenes, we don’t know what will make you do so.

Michael Fairman TV caught up with Wally to get his reaction to his fourth Daytime Emmy nomination in the last six years. Kurth was nominated in the Supporting category in 2018, 2020 and now 2024 and Lead Actor in 2021.

In addition, Wally shares what scenes were on his nominated reel, how John Aniston impacted his work, how he has changed as an actor over the years with a new outlook, and being the only actor out there with two long-running roles on two long-running soaps, and much more. Here’s what Wally had to share below.

Congratulations on your well-deserved nomination. You decided to submit yourself this year for Emmy contention in both Lead Actor for GH and Supporting Actor at DAYS, correct?

WALLY: I did. I thought the DAYS reel was a little more dramatic, much more emotional. I had thought with the way the judging goes that it might be a little bit more, winnable, if you will. I enjoyed and was proud of my work at General Hospital, so it’s all good. I’m thrilled. It’s always nice to be nominated.

Photo: JPI

What scenes did you ultimately choose for your Supporting Actor reel?

WALLY: I started chronologically, as always, trying to tell a little bit of a story. I actually started with a scene where Justin has to tell Maggie (Suzanne Rogers) that Victor’s (the late John Aniston) plane went down and it was not found. Then, the scene with Bonnie (Judi Evans) where I sort of have to let it all out, and grieve the loss of this man who was practically Justin’s father, but it was his Uncle Vic. We have a little scene talking about Victor, and then there is a short snippet at the funeral where Justin eulogizes Victor. Next, we jump to scene where Justin discovers the letter where Angelica admits that indeed Victor is Alex’s father (Rob Scott Wilson). So then, Justin has to tell Alex, and then I also sort of grieve the fact that I’m no longer his father. Justin basically lost his son. It was very dramatic and very emotional. I was guessing the judges would be like, “Hey! Enough with the crying! Stop, you big baby!” But, they didn’t. They must have thought that it was convincing enough that it felt really truthful at how Justin was upset about these two unfortunate realizations.

Photo: JPI

You bring up a really good point. I talk to actors all the time about crying on Emmy reels. Sometimes, many feel it might put voters off. But obviously, this time it worked well for you!

WALLY:  What I liked about the crying scenes was that, like in real life, you’re not crying all the time when something bad is happening, right? I think crying happens and it takes you off guard. It happens without you realizing it. These were all moments when Justin was alone, really. Bonnie comes in the room where Justin is just kind of like dealing with it. And then her coming in, opens up Justin and she is there to hold him. I think that often happens in real life. I thought that was correct for the writers to do that, you know, that Justin would break down when he was alone.

Photo: JPI

Did you feel the pressure of wanting to get these scenes when Victor died and at his memorial, just right due to the enormity to it, and to do justice for John Aniston?

WALLY: I allowed myself to use my heartbreak over John Aniston. I loved him. I just sort of allowed his presence for me in the scenes. It was sweet. It was good for me. I’m just thinking about it now and I feel teary-eyed. John was such a sweet man. He led by example, and he really did teach me how to be a professional actor, and he was a mentor. He never told me anything specific, but he was just John, and in the scenes, this was the time for me tell him how I feel.

Photo: JPI

Then, you had the heartbreaking scenes with Rob Scott Wilson where Justin tells Alex he is not his father!

WALLY:  I thought that was just really challenging material. As I get older, I just trust the material, and don’t get ahead of myself. I trust myself with the emotion. Just let it happen if it happens. When I first read it, I kind of imagined what it could look like and then you just let it unfold from there.

You’ve got Robert Gossett (Marshall, GH), A Martinez (Nardo, The Bay), Mike Manning (Caleb, The Bay), and Bryton James (Devon, Y&R) all in your category. Robert has won two Daytime Emmys in a row, last year for Supporting Actor and the year before for Guest Performer.

WALLY:  l love Robert. I worked with the character Marshall on General Hospital, and we had so much fun. He’s a great guy and a really good actor. A Martinez is the best guy ever. I have such admiration for him. Whenever I see him, we always really connect and to be in included with him is great. Bryton James, I don’t know, but I know he beat me in this category in 2020. Mike Manning, I didn’t get the opportunity to know when he was at DAYS as he weren’t in scenes together, but I hear good things about him, too.

Photo: JPI

When you are judging Emmy reels, what do you look for when you’re voting on a performance?

WALLY: That’s a really great question. And because let’s face it, there’s just a lot of terrific talent in daytime. This year, I judged two categories. I don’t just go with, “Okay, who’s crying the most.” I really try to go with the one who’s touches me the most, who surprises me and moves me. And so, if you go with that, you’re probably going in the right direction. I also think that upfront you do need to kind of give them something in the first couple minutes that shows you know what you’re doing and don’t make it too repetitive.

Who did you first tell you were nominated?

WALLY: My manager, Michael Bruno called me. I was in Chicago with my daughters having a late breakfast and I knew the nominations were going to happen around 11 am Chicago time. I didn’t tell my daughters about what was happening, just in case, I didn’t get nominated. So, when Michael called, I went, “Oh, boy!” I told my daughters who were sitting at the table with me. So, they were the first two people that I could tell, and that was really nice.  We had champagne which was really funny because I bought three little glasses of champagne, and as soon as I bought it, we toasted. They said, “We don’t really like champagne.” So, I ended up drinking all three glasses. (Laughs)

Photo: JPI

What do you think of Eric Martsolf (Brady), your Day Players Band member, and DAYS co-star getting a Lead Actor nomination?

WALLY: I remember, I was like talking to him and I was like, “Eric, are you going to submit yourself?” And he is like, “I don’t know. I don’t really have anything …” And the next thing you know, he’s nominated. I’m like, “Wow! I guess he found something!” (Laughs) I love Eric. I have such respect for him and his gift, and he works really hard. So, I was very happy for him. I’m glad we weren’t in the same category, however.

How many years now have you been playing Justin on Days?

WALLY: I started here 37 years ago in 1987. I was there for four years and then I left. Then, 18 years later, Ken Corday (EP, DAYS) invited me back in 2009 and I’ve been on the show now for 15 years. So, I guess a total of 20 years on and off over the last 37 years. Everyone remembers 1987-1991 … those were big, big years for Justin and Adrienne who back then were a supercouple.

Photo: JPI

Have you determined who you would thank in your acceptance speech if you win this year’s Supporting Actor Daytime Emmy?

WALLY: I feel like this year I kind of have an idea of what I would say. I think I can remember all of that without writing it down. If I had gotten nominated for both shows, I was definitely going to point out and thank the powers-that-be for giving me dual citizenship and how much I appreciate that. I do think that being on both soaps, I will go to my grave believing that it’s made me a better actor. In fact, since I’ve been doing both shows, I’ve been nominated for Daytime Emmys. I’ve become a better actor.  I feel like maybe it’s just that I’ve gotten older and wiser, but I feel as though when I go in there to work, I’m really focused and I’m really prepared. I know I pretty much get one shot to get it. We’re in the business of “one takes” now in the soaps.

People are so lucky to even have one enduring role in their careers, but you’ve been able to have two, and they’re completely separate characters on two legacy shows; one which just turned 61, General Hospital, and the other Days of our Lives which will soon celebrate 60 years, as well.

WALLY: I didn’t plan on it. I must have done something right. Back in 2009, Ken called me up and invited me back to DAYS. I really jumped in. I’d been out of work for four or five years. I went back with a whole new attitude about the work, about the genre.  In 2004, when I left General Hospital, I was kind of burnt out. Looking back on it, I didn’t have a good attitude and I was just done. I was kind of tired. New writers come in and sometimes, when you have new writers that look at your character differently, it can be very difficult, because you just know that their passion is not with your character. However, in this case, I’m like, “I’m going to take whatever the writers give me and do the best I can and do my job. Let the writers do their job. I think the writers also know that I really respect them and I’m not going to complain. I’m not going to tell them what to do and I’m going to stay out of it. They have enough to work out. They have enough to do. I’m going to be the problem solver, not the problem creator. There are enough problem creators. Believe me when I tell you that every time I leave those sets, I’m like, “Thank you. I love it.  See you the next time I see you.” I know how lucky I am to do both shows and to have this opportunity to act at my age and still be sent scripts. I love the art of acting. I’d do it for free. The fact that they’re paying me and I am able to do this and work with these great, wonderful, talented actors every day, it’s kind of mind-blowing.

Lisa Rinna Would Be Down to Reprise Her Role of Taylor McBride in ‘Melrose Place’ Reboot

When Lisa Rinna departed her popular role of Billie Reed on Days of our Lives back in 1995, her next major role would be a jump to primetime and the soapy Melrose Place.

In 1996, Lisa was introduced as new character Taylor McBride and stayed with the Fox young adult sudser for three seasons. Now in 2024, with the recent reveal that a Melrose Place revival is the works with Heather Locklear, Daphne Zuniga and Laura Leighton all on board to reprise their signature roles, would Rinna board the project should it come to fruition?

Speaking with PEOPLE, Rinna expressed, “Well, gosh, I’ve heard about it. I haven’t been approached or anything, but I would love to see what Taylor McBride is up to 25 years later. Wouldn’t that be something?”

OG Melrose Place fans know that in story, Taylor moved to the Melrose Place apartment building with her husband Kyle played by Rob Estes. However, Taylor had her eye on Dr. Peter Burns played by former GH star Jack Wagner (ex-Frisco). But, by the time she had moved to the apartment complex, Peter had married tough as nails ad executive, Amanda Woodward, played by Heather Locklear.

Recalling her time on Melrose Place, Rinna added that it, “was one of my greatest and most fun acting experiences, playing Taylor and working with Heather and the whole crew.”  Rinna also noted, “So if they need a Taylor McBride appearance, they know who to call. I’m around.”

The new Melrose Place is in development at CBS Studios. In the premise of the reboot, the Melrose Place residents reunite after the death of one of their friends, “but the pressure cooker of a reunion soon uncovers old traumas, rekindles old romances, reignites old resentments, and reveals new secrets… throwing our characters into chaotic drama that’s reminiscent of the past, but with a much more modern perspective.”

Kristian Alfonso Returns to Days of our Lives for Tribute to The Late Bill Hayes

After a few weeks of Days of our Lives fans being upset that Kristian Alfonso (Hope Williams) was not on the first list of initial returns for Doug Williams’ funeral and episodes honoring his portrayer, the late Bill Hayes, comes word that the popular star is back and taping scenes.

Kristian reported to work on the Peacock streaming soap opera on Monday, April 22nd. She shared how important it is for her to be back for this particular return to the show that made her a household name.

“My return is very bittersweet,” Alfonso told TV Insider,  “because it is the end of an era with Bill gone. So to return to Days is very sad. I am appreciative that they came to me to include me in their series of shows honoring Doug and I’m very happy to see everyone, but I’m entering the studio with a heavy heart.”

It was back in 1983 that Kristian first debuted as Doug’s daughter, and now 41 years later looking back at it, and her time with Bill Hayes is very emotional for her.

“I remember my first scenes with him/ He was very loving, very welcoming. That he was very talented and an incredible actor and an icon, that all goes without saying, but my personal relationship and my working relationship with Bill, it was home,” expressed Alfonso. “Doing the scenes with Bill, I felt like I was with my dad because there was so much warmth and reality.”

Alfonso did express some deep regret, in that she had wanted to work with Bill Hayes during her last appearance on the soap back in 2023, but according to the iconic actress, there was something in the works but it never materialized.  “I’m sad that I did not get the opportunity to do the storyline that Ron (Carlivati, head writer) had planned/ It was great; we returned to Salem to reunite with our families and I would have had father/daughter scenes with Billy. What Ron had written was beautiful and emotional and it was a fantastic story. I was 100 percent for it and the fans would have loved it.”

As for if Bo (Peter Reckell) and Hope will be back on-screen together anytime soon, Kristian would only say, “What I will say is don’t give up hope.” Doug’s passing and memorial episodes will stream later this year come late November into December.
