OLTL's EP Jennnifer Pepperman On Roger Howarth's & Todd's Departure! Listen To The Broadcast – TOLN Soaps Live with Michael Fairman!

On last night’s edition of the Blog Talk Radio series, TOLN Soaps Live with Michael Fairman, One Life to Live’s executive producer, Jennifer Pepperman was the very special guest, who first took part in a candid interview and then fielded calls from listeners and fans of the series.

Jennifer discussed a myriad of topics including:  if the loss of Roger Howarth, Kristen Alderson and Michael Easton to ABC’s General Hospital, severely hurt the revival of One Life out of the gate, what she thinks of the “seasons’ format for the ongoing success and future for the series,  how it was working with Trevor St. John as Victor Jr., what she thought of the new writing regime changes, what to look forward to as season one wraps up in three weeks, and much more!

One of the more emotional highlights of the evening was when Jennifer discussed next week’s on-screen goodbye of Roger Howarth in the beloved role of Todd Manning, and how it was on set to have Roger film, (although hopefully not the last time) his final scenes before he headed off back to work on General Hospital.

Jennifer expressed: “Kassie DePaiva (Blair) and Roger did a lot of scenes, and a big chunk of their story was taped on Roger’s final day in the studio. It was unbelievable. They both take my breath away.  I have to tell you in all honesty, as crazy as this sounds, as we are editing Roger as Todd’s last episode … first we edit on Avid and there are no sound effects or music, just the picture and dialog. As we finished editing it and watching it back, I literally cried.  It broke my heart. When I watched it again mixed in with the music, I literally cried all over again.  What can you say about Todd and Blair? They are unbelievable.  They are our supercouple. I know there are a lot of Todd and Blair fans out there.  I really want to think that this is just the beginning of Todd and Blair’s journey and not the end of their journey. That is where my head is.  Roger was amazing.  He is so good on the show. The nuances he brings … you cannot take your eyes off him.  I think he was sad too, but it was bittersweet.  But when we were all in the studio it did not feel like the end, at least it didn’t feel like it to me. I am thinking in my mind, how they come back together.  It was such a great day, and they did so much great work, and it really didn’t feel like an end to me, it really didn’t.”

In addition, Jennifer talked about how she felt the loss of the characters of John (Michael Easton) , Starr (Kristen Alderson) and Todd (Howarth) really impacted One Life from the onset:  “Absolutely, it did hinder us. ABC really hurt us.  Those three actors and character are amazing and so talented.  They were really deeply ingrained on OLTL and to this day it hurts, and it saddens me.   It was a big issue, and we had a lot of challenges going forward , and to get the show up and running, and you have continue to have a point of view, and you continue to have a vision, and continue to put one step in front of the other. However, if we had those three characters, the show would have been a different show.  I admire the actors.  They are amazing and I cannot stay enough good things about them, but it really hurt us not having them.  I would love to have Kristen Alderson back on One Life to Live for a day, for a week, for a year!”

When discussing if she should have the opportunity to bring back the characters of Starr’s beau, Cole and their child, Hope who were killed-off GH, the EP said,  “I was really shocked as a viewer when Cole and Hope were killed and I know on soap operas people say you can bring people back from the dead, but that is something that I feel strongly, and Prospect Park feels strongly about, and that is not bringing people back from the dead.  That is one of the things that never really feels right, but I am afraid that ABC killed Cole and Hope, and also Victor Jr. III (Tea and Victor Jr. son) and those are real losses for the show. ”

Listen to last night’s broadcast below, and let us know what you thought of Jennifer’s comments? How do you feel about Roger Howarth’s final scenes for now as Todd, coming up next week on One Life to Live?  Do you think it was wrong for GH to kill off Cole and Hope?  Do you think One Life was hurt by not having the characters of John, Todd and Starr when the show re-launched?  What did you think of last night’s episode of TOLN Soaps Live with Michael Fairman?  Did you agree with Michael’s picks for the Power Moment of the Week for All My Children and One Life?  Comment below!

ABC really hurt US? Now, PP hurt ABC. You did this and you had better take responsibility for your actions. Because of PP’s selfishness, three actors had their livelihoods at stake.

Whaa-aaT? ABC canceled OLTL. ABC lied, cheated and stole. Who are you really, Brian Frons?

What are you talking about? It is a simple state of fact that ABC did in fact, hurt OLTL’s re launch on Prospect. Arguing with this point is like arguing that the earth is not round.

finally someone who understand PP is trying to hurt ABC with his idiotic lawsuit. The 3 actors are better served on GH NOT OLTl

That’s not the point, PP has every right to sue, they owned the characters they killed off, ABC canceled AMC and OLTL and nobody should be on their side at all.

Jewell is right. Little Prospect Park is not trying to hurt Giant ABC/Disney. Rather, they have been defending themselves. This lawsuit is NOT idiotic, but all of Ron’s overly defensive and shrill Tweets are.

ABC fired all of these people. Hundreds. ABC then tried to woo the fans back that they trampled. It’s some kind of masochistic disease to want ABC to ruin PP and OLTL!

I hate ABc as much as anybody but didn’t PP say they weren’t doing the soaps?Didn’t people have to find jobs somewhere else?didn’t we loose a hell alot of characters on AMC to.I think they both are at blame.Instead of shelving them and holding on to the rights PP should have done what they said.Keep them going. The lost suit against ABC is just hurting the reboot.Money on lawyers they don’t have and won’t win. They should be spending it on the reboot.sorry people Pp needs to take blame for this mess to.Kristan even said in an interview she has never even been written a part to appear on OLTL.Easten said he is so tired of moving his family around. They just want to stay in one place.I really think PP and ABC both at fault.

Folks get your head out of the gutter. It was the actors choice to stay with Gh. okay. How could Jennifer Pepperman be so selfish when Gh cant even mention the characters names and prospect is suing.

I think they’re equally at fault for things not going smoothly, at this point. And PP could have re-cast.

I didn’t see any bodies… so Cole & Hope could be somewhere else… but the actors that had various roles that couldn’t continue, either due to other engagements or other contracts, they could have been recast and still can be.

And why do they never talk about Jessica? it’s like she never existing.

I loved Roger but I don’t get all the hype. Actually once Tea came on the scene I was all for Todd/Tea. I thought they were so much better together. I am glad to hear he isn’t going to be playing 2 parts on different soaps. I am sure Blair will move on to someone else, this is part of dealing with soaps, actors move on all the time. Kassie has chemistry with just about everyone she comes in contact with.

To each their own, but Todd and Tea were never much more than a lawyer/client sparring duo. It was never love, sex or romance.

Todd and Tea were great together, and so was Todd and Blair. Franco and Carly will also be hot together!!!

oh yeah there was! first it was the fake marriage, and then it lead to real caring.

TEAS AND VICTOR ARE WAY BETTER THEN TODD N BLAIR, THEY WERE ON FIRE THE MIN TEA CAME TO SEE HIM IN HIS CELL.

Blair proclaimed her love for Tomas and was going to marry him..
at that time she chose Tomas, not Todd..
Blair will do well, she fell in love with Tomas to marry him ..

I love RH in GH, he an excellent actor and has brought so much to GH!
I strongly believe Roger Howarth making his choice to go on with
ABC/GH was a very wise decision..
He is an actor, above all, and needs to go where it is best for him and what he wants.
So, looking forward to watching RC and Roger Howarth’s Franco develope. 🙂

Enjoy your TANKO. While you can.

But he’s horrible as Tanko on GH. Not Roger’s fault, the writers should have written him a new role instead of forcing him into James Franco’s Halloween’s costume. Todd and Blair had that intangible inexplicable chemistry which is hard to find,. Roger enjoys zero chemistry with Laura Wright, despite all her desperate Tweets which indicate otherwise.

I TOTALLY AGREE with everything you said especially having ZIP ZERO NADA chemistry with Laura Wright. Her tweets are a desperate attempt to secure a supercouple status with RH which will never happen when there is NO CHEMISTRY.

And I totally disagree with Jill and Patricia. I love Roger with Laura. I thought they were great as Todd and Carly and I see great potential for Franco and Carly.

Was he/is he great with Kassie/Blari? Yes. But that’s OLTL and this is GH. I think, since it seems that’s’ where they’re going…that they’re going to be amazing together.

I love Margie and Patricia because, well, they’re right. Todd and Carly were so damned forced and was Ron’s attempt at making instant soup. It fell flat, it didn’t work, will not work. You can’t force the ingredients to blend, you cannot force chemistry no matter how hard you Tweet about it.

I do agree that RH/LW do not have great chemistry. I am willing to give him a chance on a new personality after he wakes up. I am looking forward to this story. I am very forgiving when it comes to soaps.

it will get better… i’m sure we’re in for some new things now that he’s coming out of his surgery and I saw that he softly touched her arm when he woke up.

I always like Todd and Tea better. I Love RH as Todd, and hope one day, he can go back as Todd.

TEA BELONGS TO VICTOR, NOT THAT BUFFOON TODD

Time moves on and people move on, especially actors..
Roger Howarth left OLTL for 8 years….
He returned, it was was a job , income..
Actors go where they get a good contract, pay, and benefits, and mostly where they want to be/work.. it is what they do.

When Roger Howarth was asked to go on with OLTL he said no, not interested and he did not sign on with PP/OLTL.

When ABC and PP made an arrangement for Roger Howarth to do 4 weeks to help start off OLTL the agreement was honored, and RH did his 4 weeks, it was not a permanent stay..

Roger seems content and happy with GH for many reason like a great contract and pay, and even though he has sentiments for OLTL he has walked out before and he seems to be a man that is adventurous and goes where he wants to be.
He chose GH … That was his choice. He did not want to go on with PP/OLTL.

People have to get over it… and let Roger live his life the way it makes him happy and the way he wants to live it.
Nobody has the right to dictate to Roger Howarth what he should or should not do with his life.

Roger said No? What interview or conversation with him have you read? RH had a contract at GH. He never signs anywhere for more than a year though, so we will see where he goes next year. I’m hoping more prime time split with OLTL, because Franco sucks.

I agree people need to let it go and stop blaming ABC for PP`s problems, its a stupid company that will never survive, GH is ten times the show OLTL is, and those who keep saying it will tank are just jealus their show sucks and want it to be on tv. You can spin it anyway you want but GH is wayy better then OLTL, so enjoy your net show thats only on 2 days a week…*snickers*

When GH is cancelled (and it will be eventually) ill be the one who is snickering. Because believe me, it won’t rise from the ashes like AMC and oltl did.

No offense, Rosanna, but you are ignorant. Have you even watched OLTL? Because I watch both GH and OLTL. In fact, my loyalty has always been with GH as it has been my favorite soap for so many years. However, GH has become unwatchable due piss poor writing, choppy and unfinished storylines and terrible character development. Saying Prospect is just jealous just makes you look like some stupid middle school chick.

Why don’t we stop saying one soap is better tah this one for example GH & OLTL! Let’s enjoy watching the both of them… I like watching GH a lot but my loyalty will alway’s belong to OLTL ! This is for Rosanna!!!!!

I ONLY WATCHED GH IN HOPES TSJ WOULD COME ON.BUT NOW THAT OLTL IS BACK I OFTEN FORGET TO WATCH GH

Thank you Susan M! I’m so tired of this childish soap bashing to make your favorite soap look good. It’s not a contest. I enjoy both OLTL and GH, and support both (and AMC). I’m a lifelong OLTL fan, so my loyalty will also always be there first, but I do my best to support all three shows and enjoy them.

PP is moving into uncharted territory, so of course there will be hiccups. I also embrace the three former OLTL on GH if that is where they are happiest. I don’t understand why that’s so hard for people to do.

here, here! I agree! 😀 I love ’em both too! i still look at Olivia and think of her OLTL role… of course I look at Dante and think of his Stargate role too! ha!

Well said

I have not listened to it yet but I think Jennifer is awesome. The one thing that I think the new OLTL missed out on was using what GH did and creating story with it. The only one they did was with Natalie and John and how he left her or kissed another woman. They never talk about Starr much at all and if they want the character so bad then just recast her. They recast Matthew and Destiny on this new version. Jessica, Joey, and Kevin have all been played by many different actors too. I know everyone loves Kristen Alderson (and I do too). Now Todd on the other hand should not be recast again because Trevor St John did a great job but when they made him his twin Victor then you can’t go there with a recast again IMO.

Actually, Roger Howarth said that he would go with PP, but he wanted that 3 months off that was negotiated into the previous OLTL contract. I for one, think that ABC did PP a tremendous disservice when they killed Cole and Hope and took over the characters of Starr, John and Todd, as well as the actors. I hope that PP will, in the end, prevail, and that Michael Easton and Roger Howarth will be back on OLTL. And I’d love to see Kristen Alderson show up from time to time, but I know that she had made the decision to move to the west coast, so I don’t expect it.

KA SAID SHE’D LOVE TO DO OLTL AGAIN.

I think ABC, especially Frank and Ron hurt OLTL. The show is better with out them. Which it the big gift in a bad situation. I believe Roger Howarth will be back as Todd on One Life to Live. I will keep watching my favorite show and all the characters of Llanview. Knowing some day, hopefully soon Todd can come home for good to Llanview.

YES Susie i agree on every point. I HATE the way frank and ron write. they have made GH very cartoonish and oltl IS better without them. I am sure roger howarth will be back as todd on oltl in the meantime i will keep watching oltl hopefully Roger/todd will come home soon for good

OLTL wrote Cole into the corner, & ruined his character, he was in prison when the show ended. So, all of a sudden they care about Cole? GH killing off his character was the most exciting thing about Cole. I was NEVER a fan of Star on OLTL, couldn’t stand her, but once she got to GH, I loved her! I think OLTL needs to stop blaming GH for the fact that the 3 characters were more popular on GH.

Hello…..Todd was in prison. Characters get out of jams like that all of the time and prosper. And don’t forget who put Cole into the corner….RON CARLIVARTI. Cole was a legacy character, Marty and Patrick’s son. It’s just not right that ABC let GH and Ron kill him. He lad plenty of life to live.

As a lifelong viewer, I can honestly say that “Todd” has been my number one reason for tuning in to OLTL since 1993. Every time Roger Howarth left the show, I cried like it was the end of the world. And every time he came back, I was ecstatic. He’s an amazing actor, and he made us fall in love with Todd despite everything bad he ever did. Todd and Blair as a couple are my second reason for watching. They blow me away, and are still super hot even after 20 years. That being said, I’m extremely upset at this massive loss to the show. I’m optimistically telling myself he’ll be back (I waited 8 years and it happened!). But I fear this will cost OLTL more than great story lines…it will lose them ratings. Because, I’m not the only one who feels this way. I’m just so mad at the whole situation, and wish it hadn’t turned out this way. I miss Starr and John too, and seeing their portrayers on GH every day just makes me bitter. I feel like ABC robbed us…yet again.

I agree and I think OLTL will drowned over the absence of Howarth.

Drowned?

they’ll be fine… he’s left several times before and an especially long time there (what was it like 8 years?) and they did just fine.

@OLTLfan You never know with Roger if he will return. In the meantime, these OLTL writers have got to get their sh*t together and write great stories.

Yes, the show was hurt without Todd, Starr and John. WE SHOULD TRY TO GET THEM BACK, EVEN IF IT IS FOR LIMITED CROSSOVERS! THE FANS WILL SO APPRECIATE IT. MICHAEL EASTON HAS STATED HE WOULD BE OPEN TO COMING BACK AND SO,HAS KRISTEN. COME ON PP RESPECTFULLY ASKING YOU MAKE THIS WORK. THE JOLIE FANS WERE ROBBED BY FV/RC.
NO JOHN RECAST, WE NEED MELISSA AND MICHAEL TOGETHER AGAIN. I KNOW THEIR PERFORMANCE WOULD ROCK JUST LIKE ROGER AND KASSIE. READ PHYLLIS THOMAS INTERVIEW FROM YESTERDAY. EASTON MISSES McBAIN, ACTING WITH HIS FRIENDS, AND OPEN TO RETURNING TO HELP. LET’S MAKEIT HAPPEN.

You must have missed the interview with Michael Easton where he said he intially would go to PP until they called off the reboot at Thanksgiving. He then moved his family to California to do GH and turned down OLTL in Jan. because he said he has never spent a night away from his family and it would be too inconvenient to travel cross country.

Oltl lover,
The interview was published yesterday 8-1-13 and is a new one.

I really hope Roger returns. He and Blair are magic together.

I hope Victor comes back to OLTL. It is unclear to me if that is in the plan. Can anyone shed light on that? I’m mad about him!

I completely agree. I love Trevor St. John. I remember when Todd had to deal with Tea’s “death” and learn to be a father to Dani. Those scenes broke my heart. I so want him back. Victor and Tea are amazing together. The season finale teaser says a fan favorite will show up. I hope it’s Victor.

Prospect Park, doesn’t believe in bringing back characters from the dead? Then explain Billy Clyde Tuggle.

Well, Billy Clyde is special–and he’s been damn good for ratings. Besides, Billy’s body was never recovered . He fell off the bridge with Tadd Martin and Martin came back from the grave over a decade ago. These circumstances afforded the writers with the opportunity to bring back that frightening villain, that Southern Charmer back from the dead. I am glad they did as he cracks me up.

But notice they really haven’t made a big deal out of him coming back from the dead. He just showed up, and the story went on. I think they’re referring to actual ” back from the dead” stories.

exactly Derek–Billy Clyde didn’t really come back from the dead.
Besides, we know the Devil and the hot rod Lincoln is always with us.

Explain Victor Jr as well…

HE WAS BROUGHT BACK ON ABC.

OMG, is she posturing & rehearsing for her testimony in the OLTL v ABC lawsuit? For god sakes, how many times does this have to be said: You have the damn characters, use them. Be honest, what you really wanted was for ABC/GH to FORCE the actors to return to their roles from 18+months before, when they had already found other employment. Ludicrous! The scheme / plan that PP had to rush the launch to capitalize on the success of the actors and the OLTL characters on GH was evident from the start. This was a company that walked away from the initial deal to re-launch the shows (with some of the actors who had signed a contract), without even informing them that the initial launch was abandoned. The only problem PP has ever had, was that their lame “business plan” was built on underhanded tricks and they resorted to strong-arming ABC/GH, which backfired on them. The producers and show runners are still trying to blame the actors, ABC, GH and anyone else for their mismanagement of the shows and launches. Pathetic….

Pathetic? Funny, that is the same word Ron keeps Tweeting over and over when speaking of Prospect’s lawsuit.

Who blamed the actors? I think you’re confused about the facts.

I agree PP is just trying to bully ABC, they never had any intenion of working with them, they made the mistake of loaning the character which is unheard of, crossovers tv shows do but a loan of a character??? It just shows you PP is run by amatures who know nothing, the lawsuit they have will be dismissed and they will lose more money and oh be on even less then it is now..so enjoy it while you ummm can haha

you’re a bully, too. taunting people and “haha” like a child does? stop it. i hate OLTL but you’re making us GH fans look like petty, childish idiots.

Prospect is bullying the giant ABC? Why, that would be like Bambi bullying Godzilla…..or Sabrina bullying Helena Cassadine.

I’m confused as to why you think GH.is so safe. ABC cancelled oltl what makes you think they won’t do the same to GH? Oltl had higher ratings than GH.

They loaned the characters with the understanding that PP would have input on what story these characters had. So, sorry, it wasn’t okay for them to kill off three of them.

I did not see Jen blame the actors at all, especially not for getting employment at ABC. I’d like to point out, ABC may have gotten the characters for a year, but they sure acted like their ownership was written in stone.

Agreed, OLTLer. Also, you can not force an actor to go onto a show. They wanted the characters. PP might be hoping something can be negotiated later with the originators of the role so perhaps they are just waiting to see if that can happen.

Whats with the obsession oF the three actors who played Todd, Starr, and John…both tptb at gh and oltl act as if these are the only actors in the world who can save their soap. I like all three and the characters they play on both shows but its up to the actors where they choose to live and work. If all three want to stay at gh they should stay there. oltl has plenty of great actors on their show to concentrate on…if they need John, Starr, and Todd and can get the actors to return in these roles during their time off from gh that would be wonderful but if not either recast or just write around the character(not shown;but could be talked about as if they were there) or dont mention him or her at all. Maybe one day all three will be off gh and then oltl can have all 3 but in the end its still the actors choice if the want to or not.

I Agree

This comment of Anonymous’s above is so nonsensical and out of touch with reality that I hope they don’t have children in their care. Not a single sentence of that is true. Not a single word. The only thing pathetic is the lies being spread.

You are smart–but so am I!

PP has the 3 characters and can recast them ..

Ther 3 did say they would be open to a guest appearance, but not one said they would return to PP/OLTL..
The 3 are doing very well with GH ..

I am fan of both OLTL and GH and watch both for many decades, and I prefer the 3 on GH..
As actors need to grow.. nobody should expect the 3 to limit their lives to OLTL and die at 80 as Starr, McBain and Todd. sheeshus….

KA/ is doing very well as Kiki, she has grown and become much better.
ME has grown with parts on Gh, and silas has given ME a great character make his own.
RH, has done wonders on GH and his Franco will grow and give RH a new character to be his..
the 3 are actors working and expanding their careers..

PP can offer them 2 half shows a week, only..
and ABC/GH has/is giving them so very much more.

Sheeshus. Perfect name forTanko;s brain tumor. Thankfully, RG is off to Californication. What will they do with that hair?
Kiki and the kissing cousins….. The best thing I can say is that I like Kristin’s hair. She’s never looked better.
Even Ron admitted that he scrambled to write this crap. I’d feel for him if he wasn’t being so nasty.

After the way PP has acted shortening the show to twice a week then doing a season wrap I am really glad those 3 actors escaped. They could be highly talented people without a job today like the rest of the cast. PP has been a huge flop from storyline to the way they treated their cast right from the start. This show has never been on solid ground. I don’t think the 3 actors can be blamed for PP’s bad direction. I love them on GH but I also watched them everyday on OLTL. At least now I can continue to watch them all summer unlike if they had joined PP

No one is blaming the actors! Sheeshus, the tumor is catchy.
OLTL is far from a flop. #1 hulu, top ten iTunes, Oprah loves them.
GH—–The Loo is right around the corner.

Yea Oprah is now riding the wave after telling you 2 years ago that it was doomed!! Give me a break Oprah is ONLY helping herself and the reruns are the first 40 episodes , it will not be a perm thing on OWN so the sinking ship now has a huge crator with it….so PP is the Titanic and OPRAH is the iceberg…..CRASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I doubt Oprah loves them; she smells a built-in sizeable audience for her flailing network.

Right on, Rosanna! Oprah only loves ONE thing, and that is OPRAH!!!!! Oh, and maybe that “guy” she launched into the WH…..

Funny because I have seen multiple interviews from the actors saying they were never treated as well as they are now when the show was on ABC.

I have been watching RH on both GH (asFranco-yuck) and on One Life. He is much, much, much better on One Life. He was also great as Todd on GH- fantastic chemistry with Laura Wright. I really can’t stand him as Franco- the character has always sucked, and he looks terrible with blonde hair.

You do realize that Franco is just being created for RH..
Now, after the surgery he will be sane and and a Q..
RH in the new version of Franco will be fantastic!
It has only just begun..

Why not wait and see what Franco will be like sane, a whole new and different Franco, a power Q !!

See, I resent the fact that they brought him on as Franco and are trying to redeem/whitewash Franco…. JUST so they can have Roger H. Why go to all this trouble for RH and the others, but the wouldn’t work with Steve Burton, for just one example. I also hate how they are trying to push Micheal/Kiki together, Sam/Silas together, and Franco/Carly together.. all because it was Micheal/Starr, Sam/McBain, Carly/Todd. Also I hate that they are totally rewriting history on Franco… he has been killing people ever since he got out of jail, about 20 years ago…a tumor wouldn’t do that. I can suspend belief on things like hair after brain surgery… but thy are asking too much of this, ALL so they can keep RH. Why don’t they bing back Ric or Claudia or Robert Scorpio instead.

@ Michael I love his hair, he looks younger

PP should have never, ever loaned out those characters to GH when OLTL was canceled. Those three actors should have been new characters from the very beginning and none of this would have ever happened. I pretty sure PP regrets loaning those characters to GH. If GH wants them, they can have them. OLTL will survive without them and so would GH if they ever leave.

I realize Jen was/is playing to the OLTL fanbase here-and I love OLTL-but for God’s sake, would you PLEASE recast the Mannings/McBain so this ridiculous situation can have some closure? There are no excuses anymore, just do it

So much hate here If u don’t like GH/ ABC don’t watch . If u don’t like AMC/ OLTL don’t watch It’s the USA nobody is forcing anyone to watch anything they don’t want to . the world has enough hate in it so come people . It for ABC & PP and their lawers to hash out . enjoy the show of CHOICE . STOP being so hateful All the Actors and cast work really hard it day/ night to bring us thiese shows say THANK YOU . We have no control over this so uyall are wasting ur time and energy on all this anger and hate We have enough of that on news . Pick ur battles in life this not yours . peace everyone it a show after all Count to 3 take a deep breath

Thank you! The best post in this entire thread. I agree 100%. The sniping back and forth between the GH fans and OLTL fans in this thread is really embarrassing. Wishing for OLTL to tank? Hoping for GH to get canceled? Give me a break! It’s like people have this mistaken idea that if you like one show, you have to automatically hate the other. That’s childish and silly. Watch and enjoy whichever shows you like, and be thankful that we still have them to watch!

Frannnie, go shopping or something. Move along.

GH will be cancelled…OLTL and AMC will not return because PP is the bad guy and dont know what they are doing…i see this often in fans comments…its like from little children who say’My bike is better than your bike’…you know what im saying? Ive watched soaps for 50 years and read lots of letters in soap mags since the 1960s and never have i read so many childish comments from people who seem to wish a soap cancelled just to prove a point. In my day people were more supportive of their soaps and we mourn the loss when one got cancelled. I wont blame abc if gh does get cancelled or pp if they ever discontinue amc & oltl…i blame the negative, unsupportive fans who are the real reason behind the death of the genre…

So true. Enjoy the soaps we have left. Its impossible for the writers to please everyone. Look for towards being positive instead of complaining.

@jimh Love love love what you say. I like both shows, always did.

I believe that OLTL’s fans have suffered due to ABC’s screwing with character’s lives of the show. Why kill off perfectly great characters with story lines that could have gone on forever. ABC taints everything they put their finger in.

From what I remember, this whole shabang started due to legalities surrounding three actors who are, in fact, so good at their craft; that PP suddenly made a legal move to strong arm them into returning to the characters they nurtured over the years. There had been a year of “are we in or are we out” with the creation of online programming. PP got a great team of lawyers together and fought rights to these characters only after ABC/GH used the characters in a successful way. These are actors. People who like most other adults in this world need to make a living. They act. They work hard at it. They are so good that viewers are believing in Kiki, Silas & wait for it, Franco. They are the ones who handled this debacle with grace, great writing and a skilled supporting cast. Howarth is a class act. He can handle doing lots of character work. As a viewer, I say stay the hell out of it. If you love Viki, Doeian, Clint, Blair & Tea then continue watching & supporting OLTL. If you love GH & all that is GH keep watching that too!
One thing I will opine on is Oprah didn’t follow her heart offering OWN in the first place. She listened to the lawyers.
Bottom line…..if we don’t watch it all goes “poof”!!!!
Get it?

I hope RH returns to OLTL as Todd when shooting begins !!

Scene 1: Blair opens the door and sees Todd.

Blair (looking puzzled): Todd, what happened to your hair?!

Todd: You wouldn’t believe me if I told you.

Love it! Too funny. We needed a little humor among all the sniping!

Oprah just cancelled half her soap shows after they only brought her 124,000 viewers. They won’t be back after their current agreement. I love OLTL. I think PP ruined it

Cancelled. OWN is still showing a new episode each day. They just quit showing the repeats which I think confused people.

I believe strongly that not having McBain and Starr on OLTL hurt OLTL. On the other hand, it was the actors choice.. on the OTHER hand, the characters were only on LOAN to ABC/GH… and it is/was R I D C U L O U S !!!!!!! to bring these three actors back in new roles…. and not only that but SO QUICKLY.. AND.. ALL AT THE SAME TIME!!! UTTERLY RIDICULOUS!!!! So…. it seems to me that if ABC had done the logical thing.. (not to mention the thing best for GENERAL HOSPITAL!!! ) … and let the three actors go, at least for the time being… they just may have been inclined to join OLTL.

I wonder how many of you “cult members” actually listened to the interview, Pepperman didn’t say anything outrageous or aggressive. She was very candid in response to a question – they’d wanted to use John and Starr in some capacity and couldn’t, ABC hindered them, and they had to change plans. That’s all she said. She didn’t say “we can’t do a show without them,” she didn’t say “ABC/GH is the devil” or full of assholes, she didn’t say anything but the plain facts. She didn’t get into details or say PP was blameless. And yet over on Twitter, Facebook and here are a handful of frothing fangirls and a slew of vapid fanboys maybe three personality types between them taking this as a declaration of all-out war on OLTL and calling the poor woman “Jon”.

hat is a perfect description of what Im seeing on Twitter. Even before this there seemed to be an insane amount of venom toward PP OLTL from the Ron followers- they keep calling it the “dudebrosoap” and saying it only appeals to straight frat boys (what???). I’m not saying it has no flaws but that description I don’t understand at all. And I don’t get it- if you can’t stomach OLTL without Cartini, just watch GH and stop wasting your energy on OLTL. Unfortunately by Ron getting involved, the crazy ante has been upped times a million and some of the things that are being said about Jen are just vile. And he had to know this would happen because I get the sense he’s monitors twitter pretty fanatically and I don’t think he’s a stupid man at all. I think I’m with you on wishing we could eradicate soap Twitter which is a shame because I think it can be a fun way to chat with the other fans and there are some really funny people tweeting about soaps. Unfortunately, the insane fans seem to vastly outnumber the ones who talk soaps with reason and humor. And with Ron as their fearless tactless leader, its really out of control.

when I mean by soap twitter I mean the total massive helping of entitlement from soap fans, writers, some actors, even some of the media. This is why I’d like to eradicate soap Twitter from the face of the earth. It surely doesn’t help the personnel or their mentality, and it only makes the fans crazier

Let’s just eradicate Twitter. It makes people feel important because they think they “know” celebrities.

I enjoy both shows. I support both and I support an actor’s right to work anywhere they want. PP doesn’t have it totally together at this point ,which is natural. They really can’t blame ABC for the poor writing on OLTL. My only hope is the new writers will be better.

I haven’t listened yetm will do later. Do we have a date for ‘Season 2’ to begin?

Sorry but I believe PP purchased the rights for a certain period of time. ABC pounced and did injure PP’s rights.

As for Howarth, he is great as Todd on OLTL.

Im not that found of ME on GH and could well do without him and instead true GH characters, the return of the Cassadines. Nik alone is hardly a Cassadine storyline!!!! He is the weakest of Cassadines. Im also not that found of cartoons on the soaps. But anything to reduce the Sonny air time is a plus. Enough already of the dreary me itis that is Sonny and his penchant for holding a gun YET insisting others pay when he never does.

I’m really enjoying GH, AMC and OLTL. They feel right to me and I am watching all of them regularly. Sure, I wish they’d play nice, and that neither show would have to twist and turn to fit actors/characters in and work around missing characters/actors…. but I think it’s smart that they didn’t kill off Todd, John and Starr. If there’s one thing that I’ve learned from 40+ years of soap watching is that everyone eventually comes back and every regime eventually leaves, mends fences. Hell, Oprah went online and made a specific video saying that soaps were dead .. and now she’s running the online versions on her network. Seriously, PP and ABC are at each others’ throat now but give it a few months. Good grief the behind the scenes goings on are as (or more) entertaining than what’s on our screen. 🙂

For those of you mad about Cole/Hope, didn’t we see (on GH) someone visit the place where Cole and Hope went over the edge in their car on the year anniversary of their death? Ron left the door wide open for Cole and Hope to return – how do we know that Starr didn’t rush back to LA because Cole had shown up? And they are, together, looking for Hope? If we saw Robin die in a lab fire — and there was a body – but she’s alive… surely we can get Cole and Hope out of a car that’s gone over the edge having found no bodies. Easy to write around.

Speaking of which, I’m VERY glad that they wrote around Natalie’s supposed restraining order (I always figured it was a Clint-move anyway). (I’ve been catching up on OWN so am a few weeks behind most die hard OLTL and AMC fans)

Im actually warming up to Kiki, Silas and nuFranco and think that the roles are bringing a good deal of value to the canvas.

🙂
