OLTL's Florencia Lozano & Ted King chat on the final plight of the Delgados!

With five episodes left after today of One Life to Live, there are two characters whose personal lives hang in the balance, who are not part of the gunfire! Tea and Tomas Delgado!  The brother/sister duo’s race to the Llanview finish line is fraught with so much inner turmoil, intrigue, and most of all, seeking justice for the ones they love.  Tomas has been MIA and framed for a murder he did not commit, while Tea knows Todd Manning killed her husband, Victor Jr.!  How will this all play out?

On-Air On-Soaps caught up with two veteran performers of the daytime landscape, our choice for Most Overall Performance by an Actress in Soaps in 2011, Florencia Lozano (Tea), and the very popular Ted King (Tomas), to get their thoughts and sentiments as we prepare to say goodbye to the 43-year-old soap!  Here’s Flo and Ted, one last time!

What would the two of you say to the fans, who through their passion and unwavering loyalty almost got One Life its second life on the Internet, and the opportunity you have to play such outrageous, emotional and touching stories on an iconic series like OLTL?

FLORENCIA: I feel so grateful to have gotten the chance to tell stories on TV, and what we get to do is a real blessing. Were we surprised that it was the fans that were the ones to spark the interest for us to have possibly moved this show online?  I have to say no, because it’s kind of an amazing thing for me to talk to them individually, and how much it means to them to follow these stories and be connected to them.

TED: … And, how savvy they are.  Each storyline challenges us as actors. The fans will ask and inquire to why did you play it this way? Or, why did you play it that way?  But to have your audience love that, is amazing.

From Victor’s death, to the scenes at the chapel at his memorial, to the cancer storyline, Florencia you have played such high stakes drama and with such deep rooted emotional angst in your scenes during your time at One Life.  How did you get through them all?

Courtesy/ABC

FLORENCIA: I had an acting teacher tell me once, “Never forget you get to do this.” And that is true.  We get to do this and have a personal cathartic experience, and use our demons and express ourselves as human beings.  People watch that and feel moved, and that is a pretty great life to get to have.  I am tremendously grateful. This medium has taught me so much because we move at such a fast pace, and that after doing this, I feel like I could do anything.

TED: There is so much instinct involved in this style of performance, in that you can be prepared for anything else in your career whether it is comedy or drama.

FLORENCIA: I have loved acting with Ted. We were thrown together when he first started on the show and having these emotional scenes about him not coming to our father’s funeral.  I was able to look in Ted’s eyes and everything was there, and that was cool since he was a relative stranger to me.  We both knew we were brother and sister and that was it, and it was so fun … like I could go anywhere with this actor.

Were you surprised when you found out Tea was going to be pregnant?

FLORENCIA: I was surprised!  I think everyone was surprised and it’s different. I liked the cancer stuff, which was scary, and I like that in this medium we get to do that and have these highs and lows that take us all over the place, and I am always up for that challenge.

Many were hoping, perhaps, for a time jump for the end of the show next week, so we could see a little Victor Jr.!

FLORENCIA: I doubt that I am going to give birth by next week! (Laughs)  I think they are going to open some juicy possibilities and introduce some surprises and things that are going to peak your interest, and then leave off where people are going to continue to watch should the show ever come back.

So does Tomas have a major cliffhanger ending? I have my thoughts! We don’t even know where he is!

Courtesy/ABC

TED: There is some elevated drama that will take place for my character. But I think the concept is that there is not just one cliffhanger, but a lot of individual storylines that make sense with regards to the storylines that have already existed.  I have been happy about the complicated storyline they have given me since I have been here.  Tomas has this attraction to this woman, Blair, who clearly has this huge past with another man.  So that is an interesting thing to have to play, and it is a big challenge as an actor to play.  Blair has some big Louis Vuitton baggage! (Laughs)

What had been your most memorable experience, Florencia, during your years at One Life?

FLORENCIA: We went to Hawaii for God sake, and that was unbelievable.  It was a beautiful beach and we were making love in the water, and that is how Dani got conceived.  It was the only time Roger Howarth’s Todd and Tea had sex!

Florencia, right before Victor Jr. was shot, Trevor St. John (Victor Jr.) played an amazing moment with Tea and his family after reeling from the news that he was not Todd, but Victor Jr.  He denied the truth and was boasting to his family, “I’m Todd.  Let’s all pack our bags and head to Hawaii!”  How did you feel about those scenes and the sudden ending to Trevor’s time at One Life?

Courtesy/ABC

FLORENCIA: In those scenes, Victor Jr. (Trevor) almost seemed to be like he was trying to convince himself, and it was tragic to watch.  I miss him tremendously.  Honestly, I wish that they had not had such an abrupt ending.  I think they had many more beats to play.  It was such a twisted mind-bend that we all had to get into – “OK. There were two Todds, facial surgery, brainwashing, OK,”  –  and we could do it and we did do it.  We as actors are all willing to take that leap, but then I wish we could have played that out like, “Wait. What happened? What was the brainwashing like?  What were you thinking? What was I thinking?”  You know, all of that fine grain stuff that comes out of the actual circumstances. That is what people wanted to watch and what we wanted to play.  So I was disappointed that it went down as: “OK. This is Todd. This is Victor and move on.”  I think there were scenes between Tea and Blair that could have been interesting.  For Tea, I felt like she knew deep, deep down that this man was a different man.  And to have her explore that would have been great drama; in the way that we lie to ourselves and then we can’t anymore, then what happens?

So I don’t foresee the Delgados skipping off into the sunset at the end of the run.  I know many wish for Tea to get some inner peace and happiness, and that the truth of Victor’s killer finally comes out and there is a comeuppance.  Need I say more?

TED: Well, my character is not allowed to be happy, (laughs) and he is really stuck and in his final moments. They are difficult to play.

Courtesy/ABC

FLORENCIA: All of this is tough to play for everyone.  There are a lot of goodbyes. Ted and I are left in sort of anguished positions, and it’s great for the story and where it can go.  I love that Tea is pregnant now and that she is going through all this emotional sturm and drang, and yet there is this beautiful thing happening at the same time. This is a very big ending on a lot of levels for all of us.

TED: It’s hard to finish any show.  I have been on quite a few and the emotions behind the scenes completely overlap with the work on the screen.

FLORENCIA: And the drama the fans are feeling, we feel that.  We know what this means for them.

THE ONLY WAY I CAN ACCEPT WHAT HAPPEN TO VICTOR AND TEA IS IF TODD GETS HIS COMEUPPANCE , I LOVE VICTOR AND TEA AND MISS THEM TERRIBLY.

I second that Meg! Victor/Todd/TSJ and Tea/Florenzia are and were the best couple together on that show. I would love to have lots more. Great interview as usual Michael!

I still think that Irene planted the false memory of Todd shooting Victor. Todd’s hair wasn’t like that during that day; it was loose and down. Also, iirc he was dressed differently. I honestly don’t think he did it.

Shelly, you are correct!! I totally forgot about that!

Neither do I,and I hope I am right ,and somehow Victor is alive somewhere someplace,I know he isnt coming back, but thats why they have flashbacks,or do what they did when the showed patrick, just letting us know that he is alive.Todd needs to be with his family in the end ,and he lets tomas out wherever he is ,dam abc.I hope there ratings go south.

i am with you – i don’t believe for one second that todd killed victor……..

Ted King is a wonderful, handsome, intelligent actor. I’m not sure OLTL gave him enough romantic scenes considering his abilities in that regard. I hope that we will see him back on GH soon.

Love Tomas and Tea. I really hope that there is some comeuppance for Todd….I have been drooling at the possibility that Todd will get caught and Tea will be the one to deliver said justice to him. I thoroughly enjoyed her scenes with Todd when she carefully worded how she felt about being betrayed by Victor’s killer….those scenes were simply delicious….or as Tea would say, Delicioso. LOL

I will miss these two in particular when the show comes to an end. What a great amount of drama they have given just this past year. Tea has been in some pretty heavy stuff and Ms. Lozano has given the kind of visceral performances that most soaps abandoned long ago. Great interview.

No one mentions or even remembers Tea’s first brother, Del Delgado a black FBI agent played by Paul Calderón. Remember how Todd burst in on them in a hotel room thinking she was cheating on him? And Del had him out in jail. Del took over the LPA when Bo was a suspect in the gerogie Phillips murder. Please ask Florencia Lozano & Ted King about him. IMO Ron and the show has completely forgotten a memorable character.

Max – I do remember him…he was undercover.
I think I remember Tea saying that she had two older half brothers from her father’s first marriage and a brother.
But you know storylines change and characters change, age or disappear altogether.

florencia, I thank you and Ted for entertaining me for so long. N I have enjoyed every moment

IT WASN’T RAINING DURING THE DAY, BUT IT WAS POURING WHEN TODD GOT TO VICTORS HOUSE ,HE FOUND THE KEYS JACK DROPPED IN THE POURING RAIN WHEN SHANE KNOCKED HIM OUT. THATS WHY HIS HAIR WAS DIFFERENT .

BTW WHERE IS THE INTERVIEW WITH TREVOR ST JOHN ?

Girl, you don’t know how to CLICK on interviews above TOP (on this site) and STROLL down until you see this> October 27, 2011 The Trevor St. John Interview – In The Family and One Life to Live .

Gotta know this site BC once OLTL goes off the air, no one will be able to Blog/talk about anything on abc.com, unless they do so on General Hospital’s comment section, and what sense would that make and wouldn’t be fair to GH. We will have to meet here OR elsewhere when it comes to OLTL or AMC just to “vent” and KEEP HOPE ALIVE.

JOIN us in sending BAR’S OF SOAP (from the dollar store that way U can send more) to the ABC studio in nyc. See how they feel being BOMBARDED with soap coming from Fan’s across the United States. It’s Saturday, a day off for many and good day for us to get to the Post Office and get our SOAP in the mail and let the new shows GET GIFTS OF SOAP as their welcoming present. But the ABC network knows, FULL WELL what it means………
PASS IT ON AND POST IT ON OTHER SOAP RELATED WEBSITES AND FACEBOOK…… Send soap to Abc studio’s!

I have some thngs to say about Tea, Florencia Lozano. But I have to go to bed now, BUT will comment tomorrow for sure. Let me say that I love you, and should they EVER make a movie about Sarah Palin, please play her, BC you are beautiful just as she, and you BOTH have the same features. I am no Sarah Palin fan…….., BUT I am a Florencia Lozano fan…… so KEEP that in mind. You are a great actress and you hava played the Hell out of Tea, and I love how you have played being loving your husband Todd, and grieving him. You are the Best.

Oh come on sarah palin, she does get some nasty things said about her,but to trust hollywood with the truth ,no way. Florencia lozano can play pretty much anything with real feelings I like her ,will miss seeing what could have happened before abc killed the soaps, seeing victor and tia together would be one of them ,but I really dont think from everything I did read that Trevor st john wanted to stay on one life to live ,They didnt let him go ,having a victor, todd story with those two figuring things out would be some good drama ,maybe even become friends ,brothers ,I dont think todd killed victor. if and thats a big if hes even dead.

We Love Florencia & Ted–Yay!! 😀 😀

I continue to be upset that Todd killed Victor – and I continue to hope something is amiss with that – that he’s been brainwashed to believe that by his mother, that he was brainwashed to do it….something….I think this new Todd wouldn’t do it, and it bothers the hell out of me…it’s the only thing about this wonderful last few months that’s disturbing to me…I have loved Ted King since I first set my eyes on an Alcazar, and I have loved Florencia every time I’ve seen her on OLTL – she is a wonderful, wonderful actress….so great as Tea, she covers every emotion 100% – I’ve never seen her call in a performance – not once. I’m so sad at this loss – so much more than I even anticipated – and I think its because this end that they have given us has been so incredible – every emotion has been given – and every performer has been given something wonderful and emmy worthy to bring to us…the writers should be SO proud of their efforts. And, one more time, ABC, and Disney, should be ashamed and embarrassed at how stupid and inept and completely out of touch they are with their audience. Let me say it again….ABC and Disney should be Ashamed and Embarrassed at how out of touch they are with their audience…..

Too bad TPTP went and made Tomas and Tea brother and sister. They have a lot of chemistry and could have made one hot pairing on OLTL. I like them both, but for me, Todd and Blair are true soulmates and have been since that day on the park bench back in 1994. I don’t believe Todd killed Victor. Irene planted the memory in his head to make him believe he did it.

One of your best interviews Michael !!
I like Ted King – although I was not entirely sold on a Tomas/Blair coupling.
I hope it comes to light that he did not kill Victor…but I don’t think Todd killed him either – I really don’t.
And what can I say about Florencia…ALWAYS loved Tea right from the get go – a real powerhouse !!
Loved the evolved relationship between Tea and Blair – they complimented each other – BRILLIANTLY !!
Every girl needs a BFF.
Glad Tea is having Victor’s baby …a testament to how much she and Victor loved each other..considering at one point he asked Tea to make a baby with him(before he knew about Dani ….and long before it was revealed that he was in fact Victor and not Todd).
A nice little twist in the story.
Hope to see you both back on the screen soon.

Florencia is the kind of woman who makes a gay man like me wish he were straight. I adore her and her performance as Tea. I’m especially pleased by the way the writers have had her interact with Viki, John, and most definitely Nora, with whom Tea met her match on a professional level. I would have loved more of that, seeing Nora realize she could never really beat Tea so she should hire her onto the team.

What most people don’t realize is that Florencia is also a great writer. I’ve been to her play readings and she surprises and delights at every turn. There is nothing about Florencia not to love. A-dor-a-ble. And gorgeous. Scarily so.

I would be a lot happier at the finale if there was closure to the Tea/Victor saga. Whether Todd killed him or not, I need to know who did.
Tea and Victor were the perfect couple. I love them both.

I’m only glad the end of oltl means the end Tea & her family because I hated the a storylines that continued featuring them. I’m sorry as good as the actress was who played Tea, having a daughter with Todd , then the Ford brothers I think just distroyed the whole show.

i have been watching oltl since viki was married to joe riley and to be sure the ford brothers is what destroyed this show – the delgado s/l’s were some of the best during the last 10 years…………

I love Florencia as Tea. She is an amazing actress and her chemistry with Roger and Trevor was electric. She is so versatile, and can make you hate Tea one minute and love her the next. Ted King is great as Tomas, and I hope they release him before the last episode. I think Irene brainwashed Todd into thinking he killed Victor, and hope that will come out also. I wish both actors luck and will miss them and OLTL. I wish Tea would have Victor’s baby before the final episode, but I know that won’t happen. I will just have to write my own happy ending.

Florencia and Ted are amazing! One Life To Live is amazing! I wish someone would recognize how terrific this show is and continue it in some form. It is ridiculous to waste all of this love and loyalty from the fans as well as the cast. There is profit in this type of devotion!

I still cannot accept Tea’s ending. Florenica has kicked ass ever since she came back on in 2008 and her and Trevor were epic and magical together. Victor and Tea were soulmates, they were meant to be. For them to end with his death is ridiculous. What’s even more absurd is that his death won’t even be avenged before the end. I understand the whole PP thing threw these “writers” through a loop but that is no reason to disrespect fans that passionaely loved this couple and TSJ, no matter who he was playing! Whats even worse is TSJ wanted to stay on until the end afte finding out about the cancelation, but nope. Unbelievable. I wish Florencia so much luck though in her future endeavors, she is SO talented. I also hope her & TSJ can work together in the future on another project- chem like that should NOT go to waste 😉

Speak Nikki speak. People dont know that Trevor wanted to stay on BUT OLTL kicked him to the curb like yesd’s trashm, after he came on that show and revived a MAIN CHARACTER which was hard for anyone to FILL, but he did and he made it convincing, SO MUCH SO, that when Howard came back, I was like, “Who are You?”. Now that’s DEEP. That’s my ONLY finding fault with OLTL. They were DEAD WRONG…!!!! I love Tea, great actress, smart, sexy, beautiful. And Trevor is Todd, as far as I’m concerned and I started with Roger Howard, go figure.

I heard that he wanted to leave one life to live ,keeping him would have been great, the stories around todd 1 and 2 .and being twin brothers .great stuff.I like roger as the real todd but I like trevor ,I think the twins story line was good ,a way to keep both of them ,and I did read several times trevor wanted out.I could be wrong.RESEARCH,is needed.
