As 2017 comes to a close, we took a look back with our annual list of the Best and Worst in Soaps!

As it does every year, On-Air On-Soaps take this opportunity to pay tribute to the tremendous work of the talented men and women in front of the camera and behind the scenes, whose tireless efforts in the grind of producing and acting in this genre’s format is always astounding.  It is also something to be admired for the sheer volume of material that is churned out day in and day out.  But of course, in addition to naming the best moments and performances of the year, there were several not so stellar moments, characters, storylines, and more that get the dubious honor of some of our “Worst’s”.

So with that said; we give you our year-end review and list! As you will read, we tried to dissect the calendar year on your favorite daytime drama through our various categories.  While we know many of you have your own picks and choices, and may disagree, or agree with our picks, we encourage you to let us know your thoughts as well.  And most of all, respect everyone’s opinions, as you wish them to respect yours.

Finally, we want to wish our wonderful community of site visitors and fans, a healthy, prosperous, and exciting New Year!  It is all of you with your passion and devotion to the soap genre itself, which make this such a special and unique medium that we all share.  So here we go … the Best and Worst in Soaps 2017!  And with that… 2017 out!

BEST SOAP

Days of our Lives

It’s a new day in Salem, and it started in July when new head writer, Ron Carlivati’s material started to air.  And over the last six months, storyline after storyline has offered up a mix of drama, emotional moments, humor, danger, and put the heart back into the venerable 52-year-old soap opera.  While other daytime soaps were inconsistent with major ups and major downs throughout the 2017 calendar year, it was DAYS turnaround that was most impressive.

SOAPMAKER OF THE YEAR

Ron Carlivati – Days of our Lives

Head scribe, Carlivati takes his fourth on honor in this category and first for DAYS.  Having previously won twice for his work on General Hospital and once for his work on One Life to Live, Ron’s DAYS has made it must-see TV again.   View our year-end interview with the honoree here.

BEST SOAP PRODUCTION VALUES

Courtesy/ABC

The Bold and the Beautiful

From those splashy remotes, to those fashion shows, to those establishing shot visuals, and their retro 3oth anniversary opening montage, B&B remains in a league of their own with their production values, and always keeping things looking oh-so-nice, and currant.

BEST OVERALL PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR

Steve Burton – General Hospital and Y&R

Who said you can’t go home again?  Steve Burton proved any naysayers wrong when he chose to return to his old stomping grounds at General Hospital and to his original soap-famous role of Jason Morgan.  Since Steve has been back on the screen in the last four months of 2017, his performances have been nuanced, emotional, and with heart. Burton’s GH comeback has been the impetus for great story for all involved.  Couple that with the fact that as 2017 started, Burton followed up his Daytime Emmy-winning Supporting Actor win with riveting final performances on The Young and the Restless, and one in particular that aired the first week of the year when Dylan has to say farewell to Sharon and go undercover, which provided yet another emotional turn for Steve. While we know there were gaps of months in between with no Burton on daytime, suffice to say, the work he delivered in 2017 stands among the best of his career.

BEST SINGLE PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A STORYLINE

Casey Moss – JJ prepares to commit suicide – Days of our Lives

In a haunting portrayal of a young man who prepares to take his own life, Casey Moss made each second of the standalone episode where JJ writes letters to his loved ones as his final goodbye, raw and with emotional truth.  This is one of the performances to beat come Emmy-time.

BEST OVERALL PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS

Maura West – General Hospital

In yet another year of riveting work in her stellar daytime career, Maura West’s gut-wrenching performances make us care for Ava Jerome, even though she hasn’t done such “nice things” throughout her adult life in Port Charles.  In the scenes where she finally confesses to Sonny and Carly what she did to their son, Morgan (by switching his bipolar meds shortly before he died), and then sets ablaze her own art warehouse, it was pure gold.  The aftermath of a badly-burned Ava, whose beauty was taken from her on the outside, and her tortured soul over it, was a delicious arc played to perfection by Maura.  Add to that just about any other scene she was in, it was this actress who shined bright in 2017.

BEST SINGLE PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A STORYLINE

Eileen Davidson – Susan’s breakdown – Days of our Lives

Courtesy/CBS

We have been shouting it from the rooftops: the episode in which Susan admits to kidnapping Will Horton and making him believe he is her “dead” son EJ, and then has a breakdown, was one of our all-time favorite soap performances.  Eileen Davidson went from making Susan zany to oh-so-tragic.  When Susan realizes what she has done, and admits how much she misses her own son to Will’s family and Will, it was a hankie-inducing moment that should also not be forgotten come Emmy time.

Honorable mention:

Camyrn Grimes – Mariah comes out to Sharon and admits she is love with Tessa – Y&R

In another knockout performance, Camryn Grimes delivered a tour de force when she confesses to her mother, Sharon that she is not in love with a man, but a woman.  The inner conflict portrayed by Grimes of Mariah’s own acceptance of the situation was gut-wrenching to watch.

BEST OVERALL PERFORMANCE BY A SUPPORTING ACTOR

James Patrick Stuart – General Hospital

His seductive charm, his emotional back-story, and his love for the woman in his life, and his daughter, set against a backdrop of nefarious criminal activities from his past, (and maybe his present), make Valentin Cassadine a fascinating character on paper.  But in the hands of James Patrick Stuart, he is able to make the audience care, and at times root for the baddie and make us scream, “More Valentin, please!”

BEST OVERALL PERFORMANCE BY A SUPPORTING ACTRESS

Judi Evans – Days of our Lives

Double your pleasure, double your Evans.  That was the motto in 2017, as Judi Evans got to remind us all of her comedic gifts when she re-emerged as bad girl Bonnie Lockhart … Adrienne’s doppelganger.  Thus, setting the stage for some comic hijinks, mistaken identities, and more.  Coming off of a year previously where Adrienne battled breast cancer, Evans can bring the drama or the fun. Kudos JE

BEST PERFORMANCE BY A RECURRING CHARACTER

Rob Scott Wilson – Days of our Lives

I mean, can we just all admit how much we love it when Killer Ben pops up on our screens? Rob Scott Wilson has taken this disturbed character and brought him to soap opera cult status.  Who better to bust up your wedding with a major bombshell, or agree to stage choking the life out of one of his intended victims?  Bravo, Rob.

BEST PERFORMANCE IN PRIMETIME SOAP MALE

Charles Esten – Nashville

Don’t you just get all misty when you see Deacon cry?  That’s because Charles Esten has captured our hearts as the widowed country star.   His performance when the love-of-his-life Rayna James (Connie Britton) suddenly died, and then tries to get through the funeral and beyond, made him our pick

BEST PERFORMANCE IN PRIMETIME SOAP FEMALE

Taraji P Henson – Empire

Don’t mess with this Cookie! Taraji brings it every single episode, every single time.

BEST PRIMETIME SOAP

Dynasty

While many people called this show a “stinker” and an insult to the original version of the 80’s, this CW torque is like a soap on steroids with all the clichés’, the smut, the back-stabbing and double-crossings of a double-crossing.  For some odd reason, we found it an enjoyable romp and an hour of escape amidst the same ole’ same ole’ on Empire and Nashville, two definitively more polished and more well-written shows.  What is happening to us? LOL

BEST COUPLE

Sam and Drew – General Hospital

Courtesy/ABC

2017 saw Sam and Drew (who believed he was Jason for the first 11 months of the year) endure so much.  Following the birth of their baby, Scout, Sam came down with toxoplasmosis, almost killing Sonny and ruining her relationship, but love won out.  Then, after the real Jason Morgan returns, we, and Sam and Drew, learn that Drew is Jason’s twin, who had his brain-mapped to wipe out his memories in favor of Jason’s.  And yet, through this, Sam and Drew have grown stronger and have vowed to stay together.  Will they?  Whatever happens, they have become a couple to root for in this twisty and exciting tale that will certainly put them front and center in 2018.  Kudos to Billy Miller and Kelly Monaco for bringing the magic, however this all plays out.

BEST WEDDING

Patch and Kayla’s Wedding – Days of our Lives

Valentine’s Day brought the Johnsons all together when daughter, Stephanie (Shelly Hennig) made a return to Salem to see her parents reunite.  In a simple ceremony in front of family and friends, Patch and Kayla exchanged vows.  And it was Stephen Nichols’ Patch who delivered one of the most touching speeches and performance by a groom in a longtime on the soaps … all for the love of his “Sweetness”.

BEST OVERALL PERFORMANCE BY A CHILD PERFORMER

Alyia Alyn Lind – The Young and the Restless

Is Alyvia the Helen Mirren of daytime?  Alvia Alyn Lind is an exceptional talent, who can handle any material given to her as the daughter of Nick and Sharon Newman, and her acting chops are well beyond her years.

BEST NEWCOMER MALE

Garren Stitt – General Hospital

In short order, Garren Stitt has played teenaged-Oscar with ease, likeability, and has the acting chops to boot.  Now learning that his bio-father is actually Drew Cain, and now that he has an on-screen mother in Kim Nero (Tamara Braun), Stitt surely will continue to grow and get more airtime in the role.

BEST NEWCOMER  FEMALE

Courtney Hope – The Bold and the Beautiful

When the Spectras 2.0 returned to B&B, it was Courtney Hope’s Sally Spectra 2.0 that was the breakout star.  Courtney became immediately involved in the drama as a feisty young designer fighting her way against the filthy rich fashion moguls of Los Angeles.  Scrappy and with a heart of gold, Hope played all the right beats, while becoming a viable love interest for Thomas and then Liam.

BEST MOMENT

Valentin sings “And So it Goes” to Nina at the Nurses Ball

When Valentin takes the stage at the Nurses Ball to serenade Nina, who at this point is not happy with her man, every GH viewer in America’s mouth-dropped when James Patrick Stuart delivered a poignant and beautifully performed version of the Billy Joel classic, “And So It Goes”.  To top it off, he was met emotion by emotion by Michelle Stafford, who as Nina watches his performance and is overcome with his display of love, while asking for her forgiveness.

BEST RETURN BY AN ACTOR

Courtesy/ABC

Steve Burton –  General Hospital

Burton’s return to GH as Patient Six, and the fallout as to learning that Jason has a twin, Drew and that someone was responsible for ruining both men’s lives, has been nothing short of a giant kick start to the ABC daytime drama series. Not only have the ratings been on the rise, but his return has been the impetus for so much conflict for so many character on the canvas, that GH has been firing on all cylinders since late fall of this year.

BEST RETURN BY AN ACTRESS

Alison Sweeney – Days of our Lives

We have never enjoyed Alison Sweeney’s performance as much as we have this last go-round and she played it to the hilt.  We found ourselves rooting for Sami no matter what she pulled as she tried to come to terms with the fact that after finding her son Will alive, he has amnesia and does not remember her!  What goes down from there was heartbreaking. Sweeney played the drama, the angst, the humor, and the feistiness of Sami Brady DiMera to the hilt.  Leaving us asking the question: “When can Sami return again?”

WORST RETURN

Kimberlin Brown – The Bold and the Beautiful

Courtesy/CBS

After B&B provided us with the biggest shocker of the year, having Sheila Carter alive and well and infiltrating the Forrester family, her appearances quickly dissolved into weird maniacal laughs and scary faces, a few catfights with Quinn, hiring a Latin masseuse to do her dirty work, and nobody doing much about that this uber-villain is walking around scott-free! And speaking of Scott … why on earth wasn’t Lauren in Genoa City looped into the fact that her nemesis and the woman who kidnapped her son is alive?  And speaking of that… why didn’t B&B and Y&R do a crossover with Sheila headed in the direction of Scott and Lauren, and maybe kidnapping the adult version of the guy again?  Botched opportunities, people.

Honorable Mentions:

Tamara Clatterbuck – The Young and the Restless

We were thrilled to see Alice again in Genoa City but involved in that sex trafficking story?  Blech!

Ian Buchanan – The Bold and the Beautiful

Ah, what happened to James Warwick?  He came in one day and got blackmailed by Sheila and no one has heard from him since.

BEST GOODBYE

Sami says goodbye to Will as she leaves Salem – Days of our Lives

Hankies! Nothing got to us like a mother who loves her son having to make the ultimate sacrifice to leave him be, and exit Salem without him. When Chandler Massey and Alison Sweeney shared their emotional hug at the door as Sami was making her exit, it finally brought the reunion fans were waiting for, of sorts.  When Sami says, “Goodbye sweetheart” and Will says, “Goodbye Mom”, the tears flowed.

BEST GOODBYE TO AN ICON

Tracy leaves Port Charles and we say farewell to Jane Elliot – General Hospital

Jane Elliot is in a league of her own.  I think we all would agree.  Watching Tracy say her goodbyes to her family, the people she loves, and of course, Monica was pure soapy gold.  Jane, thank you for your decades of brilliance!

MOST UPSETTING GOODBYE

Kevin says goodbye to Gloria, Michael and Genoa City – Y&R

Put us top of the list of someone who was shocked, saddened, and peeved that Y&R chose not to renew Greg Rikaart’s contract after 14 years with the show.  Because we have all invested in the life of Kevin, his final goodbyes to his brother and his mother were heart-tugging.   We couldn’t believe we were actually watching this fine actor just exit the canvas.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY A DUO

Thorsten Kaye and John McCook – Ridge is disowned by Eric – The Bold and the Beautiful

Courtesy/CBS

This scene featured two emotionally-charged performances, as Eric disowns his son after Ridge’s admitted flirtation with Eric’s wife, Quinn.  When Eric grabs his “son’s” head in his hands, Ridge is reduced to tears for his portrayal.  Kaye and McCook delivered the goods here.

Honorable Mention:

Maurice Benard and Michael Sutton – Sonny sees the vision of Stone – General Hospital

When Sonny is shot by Sam and left for dead in a construction pit, now fighting for his life, Sonny sees none other than the vision of Stone Cates.  This sets the stage for some beautifully subtle scenes between the beloved Michael Sutton, and the soap titan, Maurice Benard.  Just with their looks, their tears, and their love for each other – we felt every beat, as Stone urges Sonny to fight to stay alive, and left us wanting more between these longtime friends.

BEST STANDALONE EPISODE

JJ prepares to commit suicide – Days of our Lives

Beautifully constructed, well-acted, and harrowing, this episode of Days of our Lives illustrated that daytime can be artistic; while telling an important social issue, that of suicide.

BEST STORYLINE

The Tale of two Jasons – General Hospital

Courtesy/ABC

No doubt!   This was the best storyline of 2017.  When Steve Burton made his return as Patient Six, and viewers waited to find out if he would turn out to be the real Jason, or if Billy Miller’s Jason would, and it was story gold. Then the swerve, Dr. Anthony Maddox was a major perpetrator in this story, and then the fallout.  How many lives this is affecting has been can’t- miss soapy drama at its best. Congrats GH writers for this one!

WORST STORLINE (Tie)

The sex trafficking storyline – The Young and the Restless

With many newbie characters we didn’t care about, as well as putting Sharon in the middle of it, this just fizzled to us from the start.  We could not care about anyone!

Ask Man Landers – General Hospital

This story wasn’t going anywhere, EXCEPT the one shining spot was bringing in real life war vet and actor, Chris Van Etten to play Amy’s brother, Chet.  We wanted to see more of Chet and less of this annoying Man Landers saga.   So we ask, where’s Chet?

BEST WRITING

Days of our Lives

DAYS has brought the audience a multitude of umbrella stories one as compelling as the next under head writer, Ron Carlivati and his team, that has put new life into the characters, the cast, and the town of Salem.

MOST PREPOSTEROUS PLOT TWIST

Jungle Madness – Days of our Lives

Watching Paul flip out after the plane crash from his bout of “Jungle Madness” reminded us how much the old DAYS writing regime was on the wrong track.

BIGGEST WASTE OF TALENT

Dominic Zamprogna – General Hospital

Why can’t GH come up with a story for this talented actor?  He is relegated to cop and father to Lulu’s kids, but has not driven story, or been integral to a story in years!

MOST UNDER-UTLIZED CHARACTERS

Parker and Kristina – General Hospital

Ashley Jones and Lexi Ainsworth are two talented actresses, who due to schedules, story, timing just haven’t been able to let the love story of Parker and Kristina play out on air. They were written off, and fans were clamoring for more.

MOST ANNOYING CHARACTER

Aunt Stella – General Hospital

When GH cast Vernee Watson as Curtis’ Aunt Stella, it showed promise that Ashford family was growing.  But since Aunt Stella has been on the canvas all she does is talk about her dead nephew and blame Jordan for his death, over and over, and over, and over.  Why is Auntie so obsessed with her nephew, anyway?

WORST DECISION

Rebecca Budig being let go by GH

Rebecca Budig being written-off GH just as Hayden’s on-screen relationship with Michael Easton’s Finn took off did not go over well with the fans.  Budig delivered Emmy-worthy final scenes, and GH viewers were left heartbroken on why this soap fave was given the pink-slip.

MOST ANNOYING COUPLE

Katie and Wyatt – The Bold and the Beautiful

Please stop having Wyatt coming to the door to fix Katie’s plumbing!  Please stop having Wyatt coming to the door as the Pizza Delivery Man!  We love Darin Brooks and Heather Tom, but at some point the sexcapades between their two characters has to give way to something more tangible.

MOST BORING COUPLE

Jennifer and Eric – Days of our Lives

Unfortunately, this duo was tried before and it was like watching paint dry, and now we are getting a 2.0 version. So far, we are not seeing anything different that makes us want to root for them as a long-term couple.

BIGGEST SOCIAL MEDIA FIRESTORM (Tie)

William deVry’s contract talks break down – General Hospital

When Will deVry’s contract talks stalled, his fans and those of Julexis were not a happy bunch. After much back and forth, and Julian being written off to serve jail time, months later things were worked out, and Will was back taping new episodes in October.  Whew!

Winsor Harmon reveals he will not be returning as Thorne/Ingo Rademacher to take over the role – The Bold and the Beautiful

Fans were outraged when Winsor Harmon announced on Twitter that he was told the show was taking Thorne in another direction, and he would not be returning.  Next, fans learned Ingo Rademacher had assumed the role.

BEST STUNT

Jason comes through the skylight at the Aurora Media opening – General Hospital

What a way to make an entrance! It reminded us of one of those super-hero movies and GH delivered big time with this stunt as Patient Six rescues Sam, and all hell breaks loose.

PROP OF THE YEAR

Bill’s mini-Spencer tower – The Bold and the Beautiful

Bill had an obsession with his Spencer Tower mock-up, and often he could be seen holding the thing and pondering blowing up Spectra! Apparently, this prop has a mind of its own too! Enough! LOL

I only watch Days at this point. I totally agree with your picks from that show.

My too

Same here.

Steve Burton was definitely the choice for Best Actor with his fantastic performances on both shows and Best Return for singlehandly revitalizing GH to a show worth watching again! Kudos to Mr. Burton!

Burton’s star power has been validated in 2017.

Best actor, best story, best return, best stunt scene, emmy award, ratings machine.

Getting Steve Burton back and in the role he made iconic is the best move GH has made in 5 years!

Agree! Congrats Steve Burton for your awards. Very well deserved and could not be happier your back on GH. Now, no leaving again. Your fans love and support you, and the nastiness coming from the other side is unnecessary and quite rude. We support you! #OgJason1 #OgJasonLove

Disagree. Billy Millers was much better. All Steve Burton does is scowl and stare. Billy Miller and the viewers got cheated.

We definitely disagree. I’ll keep my thoughts on Miller to myself.

Amen!! Billy Miller is amazing.

Thank you, Elaine. To me, there’s no comparison. Billy has such depth of emotion at the ready and makes so many original acting choices. This Drew storyline will really give him some serious shine time. I don’t dislike SB, but I rarely know what he’s thinking or feeling since he uses the same small arsenal of expressions repeatedly. To each his own.

Disagree Billy Miller didn’t bring in the ratings couldn’t pull GH out of the slump. Steve Burton did that, Welcome home Jason Morgan (SB). We miss you dearly.

Yea and Drew Grunts Elaine! Besides.. I call them by character name, because we all should know that Steve Burton is ACTING on a SOAP OPERA, which is NOT REAL, the way he is told to act by writers. Next you’ll day he acts like that in real life and that only means you obviously are clueless of the family man Steve is. Steve had a gorgeous wife and children, In Real Life!

Elaine.. Most viewers love Billy Miller. But Jason is a CHARACTER who personality is mapped out because it makes the character who he or she is.. Jason Morgan is a man of few outward emotions he had to re learn what most of them were good for, and if he found them unreasonable he discards them.. He isn’t about telling people what they want to hear, or being polite to those he dislikes.. Lots of words and talking give him a headache so he says what’s needed little more, and then only the truth. Few could make him smile, and even firmer could make him laugh.. He’s human but different…He is Stone Cold… THATS HIS CHARACTER!!!
He loves deeply and honestly but the few times he tried to escape who he is it never worked.. so he needs someone who accepted him for who and what he is.
Billy was never really portraying “Jason Morgan” He portrayed his version, not the true version. Don’t hate the actor if you never liked the character. Frankly I didn’t care for his character on Y&R but I still love the actor.. These are shows not real life so don’t insult the actors.
I liked NuJason/Jake even though he wasn’t even close to being Jason,But in truth (and I blame the writing) I can’t stand this angry insecure mad at the world whiny Drew. Yes he and Sam have chemistry but it’s starting to look like a pity party with all his gruff anger and insecurities. But well played by the talented Billy Miller.

All Billy Miller does is mumble!

In total agreement best actor and best return. Delighted..happy that Mr. Burton returned to GH. Happy to watch GH again.

So happy that Steve is back. GH was foolish to have ever let him go!

So wrong worst actor on General Hospital he couldn’t deliver being Jason Morgan character. Steve Burton was saving Grace to the character and GH. Thanks Steve

SB ?? ya gotta be kidding, right?
He is not now or ever has been a great actor, he is one track, he really is not all that great..
He’s not a bad actor he’s just not all that, no way.

and– GH didn’t need him, after he walked out of GH Billy Miller showed to be a better Jason, Billy owned it..

So happy for Steve Burton! The only people I’m sure, that are downing this mans talent and awards are Billy Miller arrogant’s. They attack SB / Jason fans because we remained loyal to the man who made Jason’s character! Steve Burton! We’ve seen and loved this man/character for 20 +years. Leaving to be near his family should not be punished. He SO deserves these awards! I just wish GH would find some knock out hottie for him now. Sam has changed over the years, I think Jason needs a younger prettier version. Billy is a great actor, but an awful Jason. Jason doesn’t grunt! Those people that cant read his emotions, are simply not true Jason Morgan fans!

Agreed Steve was so great those agonizing weeks of waiting had tears in my eyes every show.
Welcome back home Steve Burton the original and ONLY Jason Morgan

I started watching GH when Bill Miller came over. I disagree on Steve Burton. He was the reason I left Y&R..he played the character on Y& R as he did Jason. UGH. NO SOUL, COLD, STARED, NO EMOTION…Sorry.

Ummm That’s the character. Had you known the character you would understand .. maybe YouTube Jason Morgan ohhhh 1996 or 1997 thru 2012

It is so hard for an actor even a great one as Steve Burton is, who played an iconic character such as Jason Morgan for 21 years to be able to move past the character and create a whole new character on another show successfully, but Steve Burton did it and has the Emmy to prove just how great a actor he is. He has nothing to prove to anyone. I actually stopped watching GH when they recasted Jason, but I had been watching Y&R to see Mr. Burton play Dylan, I also had the pleasure of seeing Steve and Billy act together on the show. They had great chemistry and reacted off of each other often with great comedic timing. If GH writes this right you might find that Billy and Steve have a chemistry for a bromance. I came back tonGH for Steve Burton’s Jason. Everything you complain about Jason Morgan is what makes him JM. It was how the character was written and SB. Did a phenomenal job. Anyone interested in the show and not this foolish fan rivalry of two great actors who happen to be friends, and if continued will destroy our show and then no one will have a job or a show to watch, should type in “Robin and Jason on YouTube and watch the heartbreaking rebirth of Jason Morgan after the brain damaged killed Jason Quartermaine. Just a suggestion for anyone actually interested in the show and not the personal fandom of a actor.

Couldn’t agree more. I was a fan for years when he left GH and am thrilled he is back. In real life he seems to be such a great guy too. Very kind to his fans. Actually most of the soap actors I follow on social media seem to be the kindest people.

I agree with Dawn. Steve Burton is the one and only Jason. And what a great return he has made on the show. I like Billy Miller and he will do a great job as Drew. But the Jason role is and will always be Steve Burton’s role for us fans that have watched GH from the start.

Kudos To steve returning to gh and Kudos to steve”s. Performances thus far. I will start out by saying. I am a fan of gh for many years I familarize myself with. The characters on the set of the soaps In my opinion Steve has done a amazing job as jason morgan when he left gh he was doing a amazing job as jason and when he has come back he has done a wonderful job as jason .Gh has made the right choice for the character of jason morgan Steve burton Outstanding performer in the role of jason .Luke or scorpio could not be replaced In there roles In my opinion Neither can Steve .Welcome. Back.WeLove You.

I totally agree. Some characters are too risky to recast. I was bored and would miss shows b4 Steve came back, now I’m back to taping. I want his character to be happy. I really wish GH would cast a hot, tiny knock out. I also think Kelly and Billy posting all these little videos and stuff is very unprofessional when things are as heated as they are. It’s simply feeding the minds of the Killy lovers and their attacks on JaSam fans.

Super Great Acting, Simply The Best….Just Love You

Steve Burton

I do have to say the new actress for Ciara on Days is killing it! She is a great addition to Days!!

I think she’s doing a great job but I don’t like the way she is treating Hope. Ciara would never talk like that about her mother. I do like her spunk, a lot like her father.

I love the new Ciara…finally they got some one as spunky and confident as the actress who played young Ciara. Remember how animated she was ? The totally got it wrong with the 1st Ciara and now they have it perfectly RIGHT.

Agree!

I suspect that Ciara blames Hope for what that little prick Chase did to her, shortly after both of them were hyper-SORASed from age 8 to 18.

Chase was a chip off the old blockhead (his depraved psycho father) after all, and Hope is the one who brought both of them into her kid’s life.

Of course, Ciara hasn’t said this out loud, and she might not even consciously realize this is the root of her anger. But you can bet your soul that it probably is. That and the fact that she’s not over what happened to Bo, nor the fact that Rafe cheated on her mom with her cousin Sami!

You make such wonderful and poignant points, their, Satan! All of the above is so well-said! And I am in complete and utter agreement with you on it all!!

A good recast……but she is too obsessed with whatshis face…i say let ditzy Claire have him…Trip?…Trim?-whatever would be great for Ciara-the next generation’s Bo and Hope?????

Jimmy, I actually FF when Claire is on. Too bland for me……one-dimensional. She should go back to being the scheming little ‘chit’ of a girl…as my grandfsther is wont to say.
I do like this Ciera better than the previous one….spunky, yet miserable…..dark!!!! …typical female version of Hamlet. She should be given a soliloquy on the ways to catch a guy….or detesting an aunt.
I can’t stand Brady, either. Isn’t Theresa supposed to be coming back? Triangle anywhere in sight? Maybe?

I agree with you Tim S. Victoria Konefal is doing a great job as Ciara. She’s a breath of fresh air.

She’s really pushing it to the edge!

She is better than the previous one, but I’m not totally vibing with her yet.

this is a lot of prop (s) for a newbie… AND I LOVE IT.

I started to wonder immediately, if she had it in her.. to ride back in to town on a motorcycle. ie: thinking prop as Bo drove as well.

WOW.. is she all their. Victoria Konefal . you will never let up will you

this just creates so much angst and determination for all who come in to contact with Ciera Alice.

will she use her secret about Sami and Rafe ? Hope has a handful , and we love her already

Agreed, Tim….what we see is rebellion towards a parent….taking everything that is awry in her world on her mother. Soooo typical.
Looove this Ciera….a hundred steps, gallops, over her previous portrayer.
If only Claire could be replaced…I’d sleep better, at night. LOL.

I have to agree about the new Ciara…esp when she said to Jennifer, “Oh my god….can you spell the word addiction”……then called out Eric for drinking and driving on New Year’s and killing his best friend…..pretty harsh, and I know she was drunk, but that was a great scene…..I kind of “Hope” (get it….lol) that she brings Rafe down….I just do not like Rafe and Hope together….at least this Ciara can act!!!!! Maybe they can bring back Aiden or Larry Welsh, or that hot priest that was watching over Hope along time ago…..or maybe she could have a Mrs. Robinson’s romance with Patch’s son, Tripp!!!!!!!!

Ohhhh….thank you, soooo very much, Scott.
You cannot believe how happy you’ve just made me. Other than Patrick, everyone, it seems ( at least I think), is gung-ho for Rafe and Hope….she’s such a tight-arse…from another century….oh-so-boring!!
Rafe was never in such complete constant-doldrum-conditionn. I have not seen him smile since forever.
He came alive with Sami….
…..yes, Scott, I myself allowed my mind go to Ciera and Tripp, as a couple…I am slowly getting to warm up to him…..after all is said and done, I think he’s ok….honest.
I’d like for this transformed Ciera spread her fire with Tripp….inasmuch as I love Theo, he is no match for nuCiera…..

Way too many accolades here for Burton and the Jasoning. The start of that arc was interesting and SB was doing great work. But for the last month we’re back where we were 5 years ago and it’s boring. SB is back to being reactive.

I know many don’t like them, but Franco & Liz are far more deserving of best couple. They’ve shown growth, they’ve evolved as individuals and as a couple.

Nah…Burton deserved one more accolade, best triangle.

Jason/Sam/Drew is must see TV.

Couldn’t agree more!

I love Franco and Liz too…a lot…but I’m not sure how long they’re going to be. Once Liz finds out Franco witheld info again, I see an exit in her future. Hope not.

I think the info he’s withholding is no big deal. He has no reason to believe it’s even true. It’s pretend angst

It is a big deal; he believes he pushed Drew down the stairs which is why Franco questions his own “violent” past. By keeping the truth from Liz (I’m thinking it may not be true and Betsy lied…again) but by not telling Liz (reason being he’s afraid she’ll fear for her children’s safety and leave him) he’s once again keeping something from her (after telling her … how many times?…that he’s told her everything.

Again; I love Franco and I love them together. But this may be the game changer for Liz when she undoubtedly will find out.

Your reply below in defense of Franco was outstanding

I am sorry but must disagree. I do not love Franco and Lizzy as a couple despite loving the actors who play these characters.
Here’s why–Franco has an insatiable need for emotional validation. Because of this, he’s incredibly needy and insecure. Lizzy spends an inordinate amount of time trying to reassure him that he’s good enough, smart enough, cute enough and gosh darn it, she loves him. The end result is we have a one sided relationship and somewhere Lizzy’s sense of self is lost in the equation. As I said before, the only way I can tolerate Franco is if I see him as the Bob character played so brilliantly by Bill Murray in “What About Bob”? Franco is always taking baby steps while looking for constant reassurance from Lizzy that she loves him. Yes, I get that this is because Roger Howarth was saddled with a dead end character James Franco improvised on a whim. Franco was never supposed to be a permanent character and he was certainly never supposed to be a recast.
On another note, three year old kids have been known to push their younger siblings down the stairs. This doesn’t mean that three year old is evil or intended to commit first degree murder. Three year olds are pure id and are constantly testing the law of cause and effect. Madame Ovary (Lizzy) would most certainly understand this given the fact that she’s well versed on the subject of the male toddler psyche. The only thing with which she will take umbrage is that Franco lied to her about it.
What About Bob meets What About Franco but I say, What about Lizzy?

I disagree. Liz has never had a partner who puts her first like Franco does. To me this is a blip and the secret he’s keeping is so trivial, it’s laughable. The writers haven’t advanced this since the summer. It’s one-note and eye-rollingly dumb.

Franco & Liz are the perfect couple, and they need to stop this dumb “maybe-lie” and give them a real story

Hey, Harry…

Where to start…

You have a problem with “whiners!” LOL! First, Drew, now, Franco. Human beings, both in real life and fiction, have emotions! They’re allowed to be insecure, jealous, worried, scared, etc. Same thing with Alexis. Some thought her weak for turning to alcohol…Anna weak for mourning Duke for so long, Carly and Sonny (UGH!) going on and on about Morgan. The latter, for entertainment purposes, DID go on too long at some point but in real life? I don’t think losing a child is a couple months and then you’re over it.

So what I’m saying is whether the character Franco was meant to be long term or not (and several characters which have been on for years were never meant to be long term) he has reasons to feel insecure. People hate him! Carly? She turned against him as if she never loved him, never intended on marrying him, and somehow forgot he risked his life trying to save her after Heather kidnapped her. He almost died for her. And, yet, she turned against him like she did Drew. (of course she’ll come around for Drew…little too late if you ask me.)

When I see Roger, I don’t see James Franco’s Franco. Don’t even think about it. To me, the character began again when they did the whole brain tumor thing. Some fans seem to give a pass at redemption for some characters and not others. If we are to believe that Franco’s “evil” ways were the result of the tumor, and there’s nothing at this point to believe otherwise since he’s not done anything violent since it was removed (other than teaching Li’z rapist a rather pointed message). He’s a lost man. He hasn’t known love, he’s led a life of turmoil, he finally feels stability and he’s afraid of losing it. It’s not irrational, it’s not needy. In fact, he goes out of his way to make Liz and her boys happy, he went out of his way to get a job and likes helping kids and he’s been a great friend to little Jake. But when someone is soooo happy and they fear that their world may soon fall apart, whether it be Franco or Drew, it’s understandable they’d need to be reassured. Over and over again if that’s what it takes until the “crisis” itself is over.

Liz is happy. So while you say Liz’s “sense of self is lost in the equation”…how so? She’s working, she’s still the parent in the house and she looks like she’s having fun! (virtual reality goggles and all!) She seems to have a renewed interest in her artwork which they share…although I wish the writers had showed this because the fact that they’re both artists is a great plus and would be a wonderful passion to pursue together. Liz doesn’t have to worry about Sam taking her man…LOL…now THAT would be the most fantastical scenario that would beat out Casey the alien! My point is she have every right to feel secure; Franco doesn’t. Not with Jason hating him, threatening him, beating him…and knowing that though she loves him Liz might be influenced in the end by Jason.

As I said, you may get your wish because I’m not sure they’ll keep this couple intact….which might cause Franco to spiral. I really hope not.

Amen, Harry!!!…..I agree with your entire post, but the best observation had to be the one regarding Liz’s familiarity with the “male toddler psyche.” As a mother of three boys, she is indeed an expert on the subject, and that is exactly how I constantly see her relating to Franco…always soothing him and talking him down like a major maternal figure, and that is so not romantic!!! The sooner she moves on with either the more manly Drew or Jason—-most likely Drew—-the better! As you have so aptly pointed out, I simply don’t see what this lovely woman gets out of her current relationship with that endlessly insecure town pariah Franco…

Rebecca, it’s true I have a problem with whiners but I don’t think I used the word “whine” once in my post above. It’s not that I see Franco as being a whiner so much, but he’s incredibly needy. Since the all convenient brain tumor reveal, Howarth has been playing Franco as a needy buffoon and the only way I can stomach him is with a sense of humor.
Nice he puts Lizzy first, and she didn’t have that with Jason or Drew for sure. She deserves to be put first and yes, Franco does indeed do that. But her identity is somewhat submerged with this coupling. She’s almost Stepford-wifish, ya know? The Lizzy we all know and love is a true original–feisty and imperfect.
The other day she told Franco she loves him more than she has loved any other man. Really? I recall as if it were yesterday she and Lucky, two kindred spirits, pledging their undying love to each other in a church at midnight. It feels as though Lizzy uttering such an untrue thing is a case of her overcompensating. For me, it always feels like Lizzy is just trying to hard to make it work with Franco.
PS> Miller was whiny initially upon learning he might not be the real Jason, but he’s really stepped it up since he accepted that he is Drew. Miller is allowing his sparkling, charming personality to emerge with his new role. I feel like since the discarding of the snake skin called Stonecold, Miller has broken free as Drew. Now, this is the Billy Miller I know and love.

Harry…

No; you didn’t say “whiner” here but to me saying someone is needy and insecure falls in line with that sentiment. When “Drew” was needy he was said to be whining.

As for Liz, I don’t see her as a stepford wife. Stepfords were portrayed with no personality, no interests of their own…almost lobotomized. They lived to serve their husbands and were carbon copies of each other. I still see Liz as feisty. When she’s felt Franco has been wrong she’s let him have it…like when he went after her rapist. But they’ve softened her a bit and I like that; in the past she’s bailed on every one of her men other than Jason. She cheated on Lucky, she left AJ when he was wrongly accused, she left Rick when he brought Hayden to town to trick Jake into thinking he had a wife (granted, that was manipulative and whacked, but she did the same thing when she kept Jake’s indentiy from him…when she found out he was “Jason.”) Finally, she’s stickng by someone, weaknesses, faults and all.

I think she and Franco as played by Rebecca and Roger have great chemistry. When I see them in their home they just seem like a real couple…and if you think of the angst she’s had with Rick, Jake, Jason…this is the first time in a long time that she felt secure and cherished. And Franco has been amazing with lil Jake.

I actually wish they would give Franco more of a backbone. He went from ruthless to so humble that he’s allowing his insecurities to get the best of him. At the same time, he’s evolving and eventually winds up explaining, with honesty, how he feels and why to Liz. Nothing wrong with vulnerability in a relationship.

We all know many of us disagree on stories, characters and couples. It’s the exchange that’s interesting and seeing a character through another’s eyes. Sometimes it gives us a different perspective; more often times, it doesn’t. Difficult and frustrating to see “people” so differently; I can only imagine how the writers feel trying to draw characters that will be universally agreed upon only to encounter such dissension.

Harry, I wrote you a response that just about covered all your points and then obliterated it by mistake. Bought a keyboard case for my tablet and my fingers are doing the walkng all over the wrong keys! 😉

I left out of my “do over’ your point about Liz telling Franco she loved him more than she’d ever loved anyone. That was my scream out loud at the TV moment…”Are you KIDDING me?” said I to the screen. I wonder if the actors give their input. In Rebecca’s case I would have said, “scuse me…ummmm…Lucky? Remember Lucky? My first love? My great love? Remember Jason? My obsession with him? My longing….?”

What I think they should have written for Liz was similar to what they wrote for Sam…”I’ve loved others in the past but I love YOU now. Add…They’re my history, you’re my future.” That would have covered it. Seems so simple…sigh.

Okay so now if Franco REALLY has been and / or is the “greatest love that the Liz character has EVER had? Then why would she have to come right out and say it in words… Just to what? Try and “convince” him of something that is probably not even the truth of Liz’s character of overall feelings? Moi smells Liz saying that to Franco so that way she already has HERSELF covered with HER OWN like to and / or towards the Franco character… just like Franco has been lying to Liz.

Rebecca it’s the new year and I just want to tell you how much I appreciate how you always spend the time typing out a perfectly written 10,000 word dissertation telling me how wrong I am. But see? You always seem to have a perfectly amicable smile on your face as you do so and I appreciate that about you. Honestly, I think you really care about these characters you defend and you come from a good place. Does it irk me sometimes? Well, yes, kind of, but only when I am in a horrible mood which is most of the time.
Franco will always be wrong for me. If he’s not a psychopath, he’s a needy clown. I feel they’ve written poor Roger into a corner.
I was a kid living in the SF Bay Area when the Twinkie defense became a catch cultural phrase. This was about the same time the Reverend Jim Jones, also from the SF Bay Area, suicide/massacre occurred and another cultural catch phrase was born–“drinking the Kool Aid.”
You still hear folks referencing “The Twinkie Defense” and “Drinking the Kool Aid” and it often comes from young folks who were born well after these two massive tragedies occurred which gave birth to these catch phrases. They not now of what they so lightly speak.
But I digress. The reason I bring up “The Twinkie Defense” is that Franco’s “Tumor Defense” strikes an affinity with it. If you Google “The Twinkie Defense” you will discover that it was born from the mouth of a defense attorney who defended a man who killed SF Mayor Allito and Supervisor Harvey Milk. The defense attorney built his defense on the premise that his client, who was allegedly hypoglycemic, devoured a Twinkie on an empty stomach and the sugar rush prompted him to commit double homicide. The jury bought it but most Americans, including myself, did not.
This is how I feel about Franco’s crimes–I don’t buy his own version of the “Twinkie Defense.” He tormented and tortured both Jason and Sam and he orchestrated the prison rape of young Michael, who was a virgin at the time. It was premeditated and contrived and it was pure evil.
I completely understood why Jason lunged for Franco upon seeing him with Lizzy, the mother of his first born son.
I apologize for the length of this post but felt I must explain why I feel Franco will never be a candidate for redemption.
I hope you have a really fabulous new year. Thank you for putting up with me.

HARRRRRRRYYYYY!!!!! Wow! LOL…I didn’t get a message from this site that I had a response…perhaps it’ll arrive later… so imagine my surprise when I got your kinda angry, friendly, resentful, appreciative, lighthearted, serious, postive, negative “letter!” You accused me last time of taking the soaps seriously whereas you just watch for escape. That was completely out of the blue and so-not true I just decided to ignore it with nothing more than a little reply. The ONLY thing I take seriously on this site, which you should know because we’ve “known” each other a long time on here…is the subject of ageism and assorted other insults people hurl at actors looks, age, etc. Soaps? I just get into it like I would a book… I like agreeing or disagreeing with others views which is what makes this site so addictive. This shared genre that we all get to toss around and discuss. Nothing more or less. But in terms of taking things seriously…I think YOU take someone disagreeing with your take on a character or story too seriously! I’ve seen you land a “snark” or a witty yet insulting comment when someone’s comment doesn’t make sense to you either literally or just from your point of view. And I must admit you’ve got quite the humor in you!(As do, I, ahem…) But, you do seem way too defensive. If you disagree with my disagreeing with your viewpoint, then just stick to your opinion. But what’s the point, really, of even posting if we all agreed. Which, now that I think about it would be nice and is probably the goal the writers have when they develop stories and characters, but, again, just like in real life, no one sees people and situations the same way. Which is why we have the political climate we have today, for example.

I don’t disagree with you to “tell you how you’re wrong” (LOL…though I do think you are, hahahahhaha…a couple of times…in how you view a character. And by the way, not JUST you…whomever I disagree with. We ALL feel that. That’s why we debate. That’s why Steve Burton, Kelly and Billy had to stop the madness on Twitter. It’s HOW we express our differences that matter. I don’t think I’ve ever gone off on you…but you do resent being contradicted. Perhaps say, after your comments, please don’t reply to my posts if you disagree. Here it comes… 🙂

I hear what you just said about “Franco.” I…surprise…don’t agree! Let’s leave it at that. For now! We know, moving forward, that there are characters and stories we see eye -to eye-on and others we don’t/won’t. In the scope of life and all that matters…this really doesn’t. Soaps are escapism as are sites like this. I’m glad we have both and, doggone it (that’s the first time I’ve used that word…so you’re my first…in that regard) I’d miss your grumpy little self if you WEREN’T here to occasionally bite my head off for no good reason!

Happy New Year, Harrrrrr… xo

Lucy, thanks for making your great points about Burton! I agree wholeheartedly!

Thanks James. I wanted to like the story–but I’m already over it

@Lucy .
Hey, Lucy,
I agree with both you and James….I was all-in when Burton first appeared on the “Russian stage”, LOL. …not having been familiar with the charecter of Jason, I assumed he was this robotic being ( stonecold) as Steve appeared as Dylan on Y&R.
I fell in love with Dylan, at the end, because he showed a modicum of human emotion and then some.
So, Steve, as Jason, did not disappoint…at first.
Now, “…I’m over it”, as well….especially now that delusional Sonny is in every ridiculous, nausiating scene….insufferable.
In contrast…I am very much enjoying Anna and Finn.

I love Liz and I love Franco individually. I have been a big fan of Both actors for a long time but as a couple I can take or leave them. There are couples I have liked less for sure but if I listed fav couples Dr is would some where in the middle for me.

Yes, Tired. I guess I could have save a lot of time in just saying that frankly, I find Franco and Lizzy to be a bore despite loving both the actors who play these two characters.

I am not normally a fan of either jasam or Killy, I am definitely much more of a Friz fan. I do think the Jasoning story though so far has been really strong, and it is a viable and potentially powerful triangle that could have long legs. I do think a BIG issue with GH, is that it is still too focused upon the mob, and with SM back, and CarSon always front and centre, I am losing interest. If they don’t provide more balance soon, I will be spending much more time with Days, a soap that has excellent writing, excellent drama, and features all of its cast to a much greater degree. It has balance

Why does nearly every GH hater insist upon repeating the old “too much focus on the mob” trope? There hasn’t been a MAJOR mob story since Guza left. People just need to face facts that the mob has been and always will be a part of GH

Believe it or not, there IS balance on GH-but it’s only a one hour show, and people can’t see everyone every day.

Actually, I have bee. A GH fan for 30 years, and yes you are right the mob was part of the show since Luke and Laura. But it didn’t dominate until Guza, then the ratings tanked when it became the Sason and Carson show. Ronce again, we are back to CarSon and Sason. Carson in particular are obnoxious, unlikeable, unrootworthy for many fans. You see balance, I do not. And the statistics of the show bear me out if you care to check. The four stars with most airtime by far are MN, BM, LW, and Kelly. If many fans complain about lack of balance—and Many do—then perhaps there is a balance problem. Just a thought. If you only like the mob, perhaps you are the real GH hater.

The fact that Steve Hardy’s granddaughter/Jeff Webber’s daughter is hooked up with a serial killer (actually rapist Todd Manning, posing as a dead serial killer, due to a previous ABC legal complication) is a pathetic joke to the legacy of General Hospital.

Frodd “Baldwin” is a complete waste of a character, and both Steve Hardy & Lee Baldwin would be doing cartwheels in their graves.

Funny, because every character on this show is a killer or con artist, and only Franco had a medical excuse and is truly sorry. Boring criticism that ignores story. If you watched it’ll you would know that Todd, like Franco, was tortured by his guilt and far more complex and interesting to watch than smug, hypocritical Sonny, cRLY AND JASON.

Liz was involved with Rick who had his criminal ways, not to mention bouts of insantiy like when he kidnapped Carly and wanted to steal her baby. She was involved with Nicolas, Lucky’s brother, she slept with Xander, her best friend’s boyfriend, she loved Jason who was a known mobster…I’d say Steve and Lee are quite accustomed to LIz’s “hookups.” Franco, at this point, is actually giving her more stability right now then any of the above I just mentioned.

Yes, I’m sure Steve Hardy would prefer his granddaughter to be involved with a hitman. THat’s certainly something to be proud of

I am in complete agreement their growth, their chemistry, humor, the ease with each other, and the scenes at home make me want more of Liz and Franco.

Franco is a lying piece of crap!

Who in PC isn’t?

LOL, Lucy D…I’ve said that often myself. Not all, but so many are criminals in one way or another but judge each other. Love Franco! By the way, thanks for the compliment about my comment on the post above.

Agree with everything! Judi Evans I could watch her every day and never get bored lol! Maura West could act her way to an Emmy with just her eyes. So many great Soap performances this year! Ron is a genius! Camyr I /Sharon talk was so moving..Jane Ellliot’s goodbye and seeing Luke at the end was my fairytale ending.

Judi Evans was fantastic this year! Also agree about Carlivati’s writing, #Days is the best soap of the year without question, the most consistent. It has more than one good story, and such a wonderful mix of drama, comedy, adventure, glamour.

I agree, Judi Evans is an enormous talent. That actress can emote like nobody’s business. So great to see her comedic side this year. She is vastly underrated on Days.

Love Judi Evans. She served her dual-role well….did the characters justice. At least we knew who she was….unlike many who ‘play’ multiple personalities.
To be frank, I don’t want Bonnie back….not for a long while. As entertaining as ‘she’ was, she stressed me out. LOL.

But I like aunt stella! She reminds me of so many people I know. So I understand where she is coming from. Also I like watie… it’s their first months as a young couple so…. 😉
Also So glad you recognized WDV and julexis fans agonizing journey this year with a Sweet ending!!!

I like Aunt Stella too but it always seems like she’s stuck in second gear.
Stella needs a love interest to abate her constant hysterical moral posturing.
We could call her story,”How Stella Got Her Groove Back.”

By the way, Harry, good one!

I agree with Harry. Give aunt Stella a new focus for the New Year.

I think Stella has a secret…that was her son who died and not her nephew???

A man for Stella sounds like a Great idea! Hmmmm but Who?

Maybe Stella’s “secret” is that Thomas ain’t really dead?

They sure made a point of showing his picture last week. That would imply that the picture is of an actor who was cast in the role. Now of course, this could always be a short term role for purposes of flashbacks or whatever. But I have a feeling that Thomas Ashford Sr. is going to be making an appearance soon in one form or another.

And if indeed he is revealed not to be dead, can somebody finally get Shawn out of prison, since apparently his aim was never good enough to kill ANYBODY.

Or maybe Stella’s secret is that Curtis is really her son??? She is so possessive of him that it would seem to make some sense of such behavior. Although this irritating woman really drives me up the wall with her bull-headed demeanor, I do have to say I am so glad to see someone giving grief to Jordan, since I have never found that character to be even remotely likable. The way she huffs and puffs around Port Charles as if she owns the place is completely off-putting.,,,,for example, her conceited, condescending attitude with Anna when she referred to “her” police department and jurisdiction just yesterday! I don’t recall The Divine Devine ever acting so high and haughty when she was the PCPD commish…which makes me want to see her back in that position and soon! With a bit of luck, Aunt Stella will actually serve a purpose and drive Jordan right out of town!

I am so not an Aunt Stella fan. When I think of the vets they’ve let go to be replaced by this character it’s completely unfathomable. Id rather see more Lucy, Scott, Bobby, Lucas, Epiphany…any of the “ol gang” than Stella. Unless they come up with an interesting story for her, she should be evicted from her Charles Street apt and relocated.

I agree with you 100 percent, I’m not a fan of The character of aunt Stella, I don’t think this actress has the acting chops to pull out whatever is thrown her way it’s more so one sided with her. The powers that be should stop trying shove characters like her and Amy down our throats and put the vets like Leslie Charleson back on contract she deserves it .

Hi, Ric…I think the actress is fine; it’s the character that does nothing for me…and to give this character airtime when Scott, Lucy, Mac, Lucas, Brad, etc have disappeared, is just insulting to the fans and the actors. I get that they’re trying to give Curtis and Jordan a back story but I’d rather see Sean back if that was the case (along with TJ). And what about Valerie? Another character they just tossed in and tossed out. We still don’t know who her father was and she had zero interaction with her Spencer family. What was the point of bringing her on?

I had hoped … that we would get to see a maternal instinct from Aunt Stella… because it’s neat to see Curtis and TJ respond to that motherly touch.

altho, you could clearly see that they both “know” aunt Stella goes off her rocker ? no?

I don’t know… it was hinted that she once had a fiancé .. that left for San Francisco for a job.. and that was the end of that.

this Jordan back and forth has obviously gone on for years… and it’s to the point. it’s either Jordan or Aunt Stella.. and that aint going to happen… so Aunt Stella… straighten up and fly right

get that love bug… and stop being the st hood that rescues the world… leave Laura alone as well.

I like her character for the humor… the sassy without the message… cause as loud as she is, in your face… that should have expired

OK Stella… dance

@Rebecca1, Valerie character also had that was it one or two episodic “story arc” earlier last year (2017) whereas Kristina and her (Valerie, herself) ended up kissing one another… I think on Kristina’s side of “character view” with this “story”, was that she was essentially kind of “using” the Valerie smoocheroo at #TheFloatingRib, to make Parker “jealous”. Lolz.

Yes; I remember Ashland22Cripton…Valerie actually thought she was helping Kristina by making Parker jealous. I actually like Kristina better with Valerie than with Parker! (If Valerie was bi…)

They really just threw that actress under the bus. She’s gorgeous and can act yet her character just faded out and away. She’s a model, too. Maybe she’s busy with that.

Days was definitely soap of the best soap,Ron has made it watchable again. Bold and the Beautiful was worse soap, they completely blew it with Sheila’s return. i agree with your pick for worst story, that trafficking stuff on Y&R was horrendous, for months we had to sit through newbies that nobody cared about to drive story, worse couple was Nick and Chelsea, they are so boring and have no chemistry

Y & R writing has just been wretched for so long that I usually just read summaries to see if they’re ever going to turn their storyline around. The’ve turned so many characters into such unlikeable people that it’s not enjoyable to watch, and the drag on meaningless storylines are either irritating or a total snore! Do not understand Rena Sofer being overlooked for her skillful acting on B& B in turning a villainous character into a sympathetic one. And for heaven’s sake get rid of Sheila for once and for all!!! Talk about irritating!

This is a great recap of the year. I hope this is the year the Daytime Emmys takes notice of “DOOL.” The writing has been fantastic and in recent weeks, the show has been can’t miss. I think James Reynolds as Abe Carver has been amazing in recent weeks. His anger toward JJ was understandable as you saw Theo lying in a hospital bed. It would be great to see James in the Lead Actor category.

I have always felt like JJ has been drifting around in the background since Paige died two years ago. I was not a fan of his pairing with Gabi at the beginning. It seemed JJ was too young and inexperienced to be with her, but that has changed in the days following the suicide episode. Camilla Banus was spectacular in those episodes.

It has been a few years since I have had to watch parts of an episode more than once. The scenes with Susan Banks breaking down over EJ and telling Will the truth will be remembered as the best scenes in recent daytime history. Eileen Davidson is an asset to any show she is on, whether it is a Real Housewife, Y&R and Days. Any fan of the show hopes to see her again in 2018.

The worst storyline was the departure of Thomas Forrester on B&B. For months, he and Sally Spectra ruled with their pairing. All it took was having Caroline come back and go along with Bill’s lies and he was off to New York. Fast forward a few weeks and Sally was already falling for Liam and basically saying the same words about him as she said to Thomas. As much as I like Coutney Hope as Sally, it made her look desperate.

Can we give an “ick” award to Steffy award on B&B? Bedding Liam and Wyatt (brothers) in one year is bad enough, but now she has added Bill, their DAD, to the list. To make matters worse, she went home from the one-night stand, renewed her vows and we assume went to bed with Liam in the same night. Love Steffy, hate the storyline.

The pace of B&B can sometimes give you whiplash. Brooke/Ridge and then Brooke/Bill to Brooke/Ridge and now Brooke/Thorne is too much. Katherine Kelly Lang needs a storyline that does not revolve around a man. Lets give her an illness or a nervous breakdown, just not another go-sound with Ridge and Thorne.

YES, TOTALLY AGREE ON B/B. Thomas & Sally love story was just what B/B needed and we loved it. What a mistake it was to screw with that. Instead, let’s go round and round with brooke, ridge, now thorne, over and over. I’m dizzy. ! Re: Y/R which I gave watched from day one is just dreadful. WTH are they doing. Waste of takents, ridiculous story lines. Ever since ADAM left, this show went to crap. ADAM was the show, he brought the spark back, interacted fantastic with every character. ADAM was the best thing this show gas to offer. BRING THE DAM CHARACTER BACK. ALREADY !!

I agree with you there is always man trouble where Brooke is concerned, as soon as she found out Thorne’s intentions she should have moved him out. She should have never moved him in knowing how he feels about Ridge that was just asking for trouble. But that is what Brooke does best keep men fighting over her especially Forrester men.

Yes the Steffie story line with the Spencer men has always been a little nasty. She was having an affair with Bill first while he was married to Katie, when she could’nt have him she set out to take Liam from Hope. When Liam left her at last and went back to Hope she started seeing Wyatt but was still after Liam. And you know all the rest that lead up to now. The writers seem to have made Steffie’s character like a rerun of Brooke with the Spencer men like Brooke is with the Forrester men. Brooke has slept with every Forrester male member including Ridge’s half brother NICK who wasn’t a Forrester. Now Steffie is following the same path. It was like a switch around they made Steffie like Brooke and Hope like Taylor.

Now the Thomas story line was really weak he was suppose to be so in love with Sallie that he left his family company, then at the drop of a hat he just leaves and just drops her like a hot potatoe. He didn’t even come back when she lost everything it’s like he never knew her. They could have found a better way to write Thomas out of the story because he will not be returning. Like they did zende sent him to Paris to design because he will not be returning. I guess they are being replaced like Thorne was. Because the Thomas story line has to come back up when Caroline does not die. So I will just wait and see.

It was absolutely ridiculous that Sally said no man has ever been so good to her; Thomas adored her and went to bat for her, went against his family for her (like Liam), saved her company (like Liam) and stood up to his father and sister. Basically, they had Liam play Thomas with a different name.

I’m assuming that since that actor who played Thomas wanted to leave and they had this Liam/Sally/Bill/Steffy storyline in mind they decided not to replace him. Though bringing Sally and Liam together was the catalyst for all that follows, they really did screw up by having Thomas just desert Sally after proclaiming such love for her. They just glossed over it and had her fall for Liam almost immediately. Really poorly done.

I was really hoping you’d do more with the web shows this year. This was the first year I watched a lot of them (kept up with The Bay, picked up Ladies of the Lake, rewatched the re-released episodes of Tainted Dreams, and watched all the new epispdes of Anacostia this past week), and I think its really time they got some love. It could just be that I am coming off the finale of Anacostia (which was AMAZING, just give Jennifer Bassey the Emmy in every category now, lol) but these shows have really come into their own and are the place to see our favorites from all the dead shows return to our screens or do things we never get to see them do in their typical roles. It would be nice if they could get a little love here come “best of” time. I mean, I’d say The Bay is still killing it with star power, Ladies of the Lake with campy pleasures, and Anacostia is basically like watching one of the best indie films I’d ever seen, such good acting and writing and totally different from what I expected, in all good ways. I’m a big believer these shows are the future by this point, but like I said I may just be riding high off of the binging the shows all month (and Anacostia this past week). Happy New Year On Air, On Soaps!!!!

SB best actor, no. Maurice, Billy, Roger, James Patrick Stuart, yes! He’s been on only a few mos. A lot of fanfare! Adding to worst decision is letting Ron go, look how he’s turned Days around and also letting Tyler Christoper go:(

Steve Burton…Best Actor….Yes!

Do you not even bother to read the article? MF plainly stated it was for his great work in his exit from Y&R earlier this year and his return to GH later this year. Two soaps! Burton earned his emmy award for one and proved his ratings drawing power in the other. No soap actor had a hotter year. He was the heart of the best story on daytime. Numbers speak for themselves.

By the way, this is for the year of 2017. You are talking about people who were let go 18-24 months ago.

bwahaa SB’s exit from Y&R was noting award winning, others have had much greater exit performances..
I see his praise as being unwarranted, it was nothing outstanding, not at all..

Steve Burton deserves best actor awards he’s done a great job both on Y &R and his return to GH as Jason Morgan!! He’s a great actor!! People get a grip and except it! Steve Burton is very much loved and always has been since he 1 st aired on GH as Jason Morgan! He’s the only one who could do that role justice!!! He’s the real Stonecold Jason Morgan and he deserves that award

i am so happy Steve is back. billy needs to take Drew and make it his own. Jason has always been Steve. and his acting seems better to me now. but his eyes say so much even when he doesn’t. i would love to see him and Liz finally get together and be a couple. just can’t stand the way Sam has been treating him. It is a great story and i wait to watch every day as I used to when Luke and Laura were the couple to watch.

Steve/Jason is fan favorite therefore his fans see him as something special, as being a great actor, he is not. He is quite ordinary.

Billy Miller brings ‘felt’ emotions, Steve is a robot.

Not saying Steve isn’t good he simply is not better than others,
He is robotc..

And, it was nasty that Billy Miller was not recognized….
He played- Jake, then Jason and now Drew and he owned them all. and that deserved recognition.. imo

I disagree with the BEST OVERALL PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS it should go to Kelly Monaco. This year with every story line she was in from the birth of her daughter (You would NEVER know this woman has not given birth in real life.),to her almost killing Sonny, to her husband almost dying, finding out her husband is his twin. She just got more amazing as the stories kept coming. .She made you feel what she was feeling. So glad she got amazing material to work with. Her & Billy Miller are so good together. They are the reason I watch GH. She better take home the emmy it is well deserved. She has been overlooked for years. She should of gotten one in 2004 for the death of her daughter & in 2005 for the death of her brother. Her being paired with Billy Miller has made her shine.

I agree. Kelly has been great this year. Her soft, subtle performances are just as powerful as those who shriek their lines. LOL…

She conveyed such emotion through each story she was in I truly felt for her. (And I love her relationship with Alexis; truly the loyal daughter.)

Kudos to Kelly! You’re the pick for many of us!

Kelly is great but all on her own. While her and Billy are cute. She doesn’t need Billy to shine. She did all that on her own and the older stories you mentioned were with Steve as Jason.

Each situation Im cee mentioned was while Sam was with Billy as Jason:

the birth of her daughter Scout after she fell down from the bridge

her delusions of trying to kill Sonny

her despair while Drew was in a coma

her mixed emotions finding out her husband wasn’t Jason and all that went with that…

All the above was acted without a missed beat…and yes…her older performances that Im cee mentioned were great, too. But since we’re talking about his year she had A LOT of stories that involved her which was mentioned. This was a big year for her.

Hi, Tired..just to clarify. I do agree with you; Kelly shines, regardless of who she’s playing a scene/sharing a story. But I think specifically, in this year, her stories with Billy have extremely poignant and allowed her to really show a range of emotions in almost back-to-back stories.

Now NBC needs to renew Day’s for multi years!

Days has been on fire bro

I would love to see a renewal, more money for sets and doing whatever it takes to get Sami and EJ back.

My fingers are crossed for a renewal, Ray. It would be a shame for DAYS to end when it is in such an upswing! I like the improvements to the Kiriakis mansion and I’m sure other improvements will follow. With the addition of Stefan, I don’t see an EJ return for quite some time, time we don’t have if DAYS isn’t renewed…TicToc TicToc TicToc

Agree with almost everything but SB..if find him a snooze..and missing Franco making the list. Jane Elliott and Rebecca Budig leaving was a huge blow. And Maura puts most everyone to shame. Sheer talent. Billy Miller and Kelly have made GH “love in the afternoon” again. Would love to see more Dr. O and Scotty..and way less Corinthos in 2018.

Totally agree

I am so happy that I am not alone in the disgust of
Wyatt and Katie constantly in bed. For goodness sakes if they’re going to be in a relationship (which I doubt) can it have some substance. And even more importantly is Thorne going to be an interruption???

I’m not “disgusted” by Wyatt and Katie but I am frustrated and bored. I get that they’re attracted to each other and it’s great that they have incredible chemistry in bed, but as a viewer it gets old fast. It’d be much more interesting to see how Bill reacts but in the end, I don’t know why it would matter. They’re adults! They’re not some kids sneaking around that has to worry what daddy thinks. And, if I were Katie, I’d be insulted. I’d say we may not be “serious” at this point but I’m not staying in hiding.

I also didn’t get how she invited Thorne to stay at her place. If she loves sex with Wyatt so much…wouldn’t that kinda cramp their style? How exactly would that work? Made no sense…

Well said, if only the powers that be would listen to us the faithful viewers.

Miss Jane Elliott, such a wonderful actress. I am happy for her retirement but us as viewers have lost so much.

Casey Moss was incredible in the episode where he was writing letters to loved ones while preparing to end his life. I was in tears. So raw, so well done. He must get an emmy for his work!

I agree, Kim, our Casey has come a long way. When an actor is that ridiculously gorgeous, I become suspect that their acting doesn’t necessarily follow. Not this time. Between him and Rob Wilson, DOOL certainly becomes “drool” for me.

DAYS BEST ? SERIOUSLY ? Beyond Wrong ! Not 1/2 as good as GH ! Honestly there’s a reason why it constantly flounders in the ratings, RC or not.

I couldn’t disagree more here! DAYS has improved leaps and bounds since Ron has taken over! GH is good, but very unbalanced! If you don’t like seeing DAYS beat out GH, you may want to pass on watching/reading about the Daytime Emmy awards this year!

Very interesting choices for the Best & Worst of 2017. Now…here are MY thoughts…

1. B&B’S Sheila SHOULD do a crossover to Y&R…just long enough to put that ICKY Scott out of his misery already…AND OURS!!!!!
2. That Sex Ring storyline on Y&R was a real STINK FEST!!!!!
3. I did not care for Alice on Y&R the first time around…and she got on my nerves EVEN MORE SO during that Sex Ring idiocy!!!!!
4. That Jungle Madness nonsense (DOOL) (to me) was BEYOND UNWATCHABLE!!!!!
5. That ANNOYING AIRHEAD Abby (Y&R) was EVEN MORE DIMWITTED by getting mixed up with that CREEP-O-ZOID Zach!!!!! Enough said on that one.
6. That Aunt Stella chick needs to PERMANENTLY BOUNCE out of GH…ASAP!!!!!
7. Believe it or not, Ingo Rademacher (as B&B’S new Thorne) is growing on me. But, I STILL HAVE ISSUE with Brad Bell for cutting Winsor Harmon loose. GRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!
8. One of the 3 remaining soaps needs to hire Sean Carrigan (ex-Stitch, Y&R)…QUICKLY!!!!!
9. I think that Ben (DOOL) needs more story…and bring back Clyde already!!!!!
10. Reed (Y&R) needs a SERIOUS ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT…QUICKLY!!!!!

HAPPY 2018 EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!

Peace.

Jay, as always, you make some terrific points! I definitely like jaybird369’s Best & Worst list!!

James…as always, THANKS for the back-up, Brother!!!!! Much, much appreciated.

Later.

Happy Near Year jay!

HAPPY 2018 to you, too, Tim.

Later.

Also Reed needs a haircut.

LOL, Karen…true that; but, we can sort of forgive Reed his abundance of wild “locks” because of his age. But, Scott? It’s a matted mess…..ludicrous on a man who’s reached adulthood a couple of decades ago.
I don’t mind long hair on a guy, as long as it is clean and brushed/combed….not necessarily “perfect” like Graham’s, LOL, but, a modicum of ‘nice’ appearance would be good.

I agree with the majority of your choices.
The ones I strongly disagree with are= Best Child Actor is GH’s Hudson West, No one even comes close to him. And Best Supporting Actor is DAYS James Reynolds. He slayed it as Abe. James Saint Patrick is easily forgettable as the smarmy sniveling Valentin. In fact GH needs to ditch Valentin & scenery chewing Nina. If GH needs an heir apparent to Helena then keep the talented Jesica Tuck as the lethal Cassandra. Garren Stitt as Best Newcomer? Insanity. The kid is so low energy & can’t act his way out of a paper bag. Best Newcomer should be Days nuCiara.
Most Annoying Character should go to not only Stella but also Nelle, Nina & Amy on GH. All are annoying & epic failures. All need to go from an already bloated cast.
Best Couple for me is hands down Franco & Elizabeth. They bring it in every sense= banter, comedy, drama, passion & tenderness. Unlike your pick they enunciate & look awake as opposed to sleepwalking through scenes
Worst Couple = I’d add 2 additions to the dreadful JennEricI…Y&R’s Chelsea/Nick (boring & chem free) and Days Abby/Chad (boring, chem free & Abby needs an IV of Red Bull).
Best Storyline for me is YR’s return of Dina, her diagnosis & the fallout on her family. Emotional, well acted & incorporating long ago history. It beats the Tale of Two Jasons by a country mile
Finally..the most in need of a story & focus= the underutilized but always amazing Steve & Kayla of Days

Forgot to add…Worst Soap is hands down Bold & Beautiful. It’s straight up garbage.

I agree. Hudson West just killed it–hits every note.
I find Nelle & Nina far more annoying than Aunt Stella.

Essentially I agree with everything you said.

In terms of the most annoying GH characters, your “Sophie’s Choices” were pretty spot-on! Nina, Aunt Stella and Amy all need to go and stat!!!! As far as Nelle is concerned, I can tolerate her, if only because her presence so roils Bobbie and Carly, which is a beautiful thing to behold!!! However, as we are compiling a list of those who constantly grate and really require a one-way ticket out of Port Charles, my top candidate has to be Alexis and her condescending, sanctimonious attitude! Between that and her oh-so-not-subtle sexually-obsessive, adolescent pining for Julian, this exhausting woman has worn thin any small sense of goodwill she might have once had going for her way back when.

Amy, Nathan, Nina, GOODBYE!

Alexis, I hear Nancy is the same in real life!

EWWWWWWWWWWW!

Hi Shay. I love your analysis of Alexis and Luke. Spot on!

They should have just rebooted Helena with Jessica Tuck.

The actor playing Oscar is lost!

Most Annoying Characters should go to Stella but also Nelle, Nina & Amy on GH. All are annoying & epic failures. All need to go from an already bloated cast.

Worst Couple for me is hands down Maxie and Nathan then Franco & Elizabeth.

@Timmm…And therein lies my disdain for the character of Alexis…when there seems to be no marked line of delineation between a role and the actual individual filling it, that creates a huge problem because the real-life persona takes over in every facet of the fictional entity—-until they seemingly become one in the same. That also occurred in later years with Anthony Geary’s Luke as the actor increasingly began projecting his own personal derision for certain past storylines and characters into the mix.

Love my Nina, T……and, give Nelle a chance. Maybe she is Faison’s other ‘son’…..who’s really a daughter?? LOL.

MOST ANNOYING : drum roll … laugh out loud

Chad Duell – Michael Corinthos

“dullard”

how is it that a character of his “stature” has no personality

He’s getting there, Patrick….he simply needs to get off his Oedipus Rex Complex Syndrome….
Always listen to Mommy; just not this one….

Y&R has sunk to new all-time lows in the raatings for a reason, it’s horrendously written & produced. This once magnificent show is a mere shadow of itself. I’d hoped Mal Young would turn it around, but the show is stuck in a ditch. CBS & Sony have to intervene soon. Terrible times in Genoa City.

Destiny I so agree about Y&R…CBS & Sony better do something quick and Mal Young needs to be relieved of his head writer duties…Y&R is gone and who knows if it will ever be back…so so so so so SAD….

i hate to agree but its true
im desperately hoping y n r gets better but it never does
the sets look better than ever but sadly thats about all
the sleek directing and camera work with close ups and scene changes are gone and awkward. The beautiful background music of yesterday is gone and often theres no music at all. Zero suspence, no romances or couples to root for, No young love toinvest in and the old couples like jack and nikki or vic and nikki are stale.
i actually feel this is worse than the MAB and Pratt days. Thats bad.
The Mal Young british model does not work for Y n R.

Damien, you said it very well and hit the nail right on the head and I agree with you on everything you said…I BEG CBS/Sony to take action or Y&R will be at the bottom which I am surprised that it’s on top for ratings because I believe Y&R is now the worst daytime drama…

The Weather Channel is more entertaining than Y and R. I’ve watched from the BEGINNING. The last decade and more has been so-so, but now I find it practically unbearable to watch. An episode= a day… defies the whole point to television. Things happening off-screen… again, defies the whole point to television. And all these catfights between women? Seriously? In public? Again and again? We can watch this kind of “drama” on third rate talk shows with creepy, real-life guests.

If things don’t change for the better, my lifelong commitment to the show expires.

Hi Ron, LOL regarding The Weather Channel is more entertaining than Y&R and I agree with you 100%…I actually like The Weather Channel and not liking Y&R…it’s only a matter of time before I quit watching this once classic wonderful show…

Love Steve Burton. I think he is a marvelous actor so anything you say that is good about him, I agree with totally. Love GH and mostly the Corinthos crew. Like the mob action. Need to get back to that. I am not crazy about Julian and the way he is stalking Alexis. Makes me feel angry.
For me the worse show was Bold and the Beautiful. Stuffy is portrayed just like Brooke; bedding a father and two sons. Second verse same as the first. Hate that. Bill is obnoxious, just a Victor (from Y&R) wanna be. Liam whining around after Steffy while she was still married to Wyatt made me lose all respect for the character. And don’t start me on Sheila and how completely stupid Eric was about her.
I did enjoy Days of Our Lives, my second favorite show after General Hospital. JJ’s agony over shooting Theo was heart wrenching. The episode where he was writing the suicide notes was gut wrenching. I also am a big fan of Theo. I thought I read he was leaving the show. Hope that is not true. I really like the character (good story about autism) and the portrayer.
Not much to say about Y&R. Love Josh Morrow. Do not like Victor. Cannot begin to describe how I feel about that character. So arrogant.
That is my take on things.

Sorry. The stuffy was a typo. Meant Steffy, of course. No disrespect intended.

The Tracey Quartermaine exit storyline was one of the worst of the year.

I agree BUT I hate Man Landers more because the characters involved in that story are horrendous!

I think at times, even the writers get writers block. I’ve always hoped maybe have a contest, through the soap magazines, now internet. Have a contest stories, ideas for certain characters, die hard fans would love it & instead of cash prizes, the soap memoriblia would work, if they used the whole idea/story offer a trip to the set &watch it being filmed.

Why did go to Elizabeth and Franco for best couples they deserve it to me we noticed he mess up be lie to her again.

Watch show look for Elizabeth and Franco on be Friday for New year’s show they was on.We noticed Franco is still lie to Elizabeth again wait see what will happen next with them.

OMG – celebratory Laugh OUT Loud – @Days of OUR Lives

YES
YES
YES !!!!!1

3 plugs. 3 standing ovation. 3 facts

RIGHT out of the gate :

1. Best Soap
2. Soapmaker of the year – Ron Carlivati and TEAM
3. Best Writing

ABSOLUTELY – triumphant heart beat and pulse racing.

I love THIS PRODUCTION. CHEERS to Salem’ites

I have always been a Ron Carlivati lover!
He brings it home!
RC is a Brave writer
he goes out of the traditional soap box he has always thought big has no fear going where others feared to tread !!

I can understand that, su….I do looove those ( one in particular) who went where others ‘feared to tread’.

“…and put the heart back into the venerable 52-year-old soap opera. ”

that full hour … giddy feeling… heart tug… you name it.

“Days of OUR Lives”

the envelope please
and the winner is

Amen!!!

BEST NEWCOMER MALE

Garren Stitt – General Hospital

“…Stitt surely will continue to grow and get more airtime ”

whew! I’ve propped his turn

OK… this is on my wish list for 2018

Drew, Kim, Oscar, w/Monica

wow I get so much talent…. in one spot

Just Please let it be

@Garren – “Billy Miller ” “Tamara Braun” “Leslie Charleson”

woah

for me the most underused actress is still Rebecca Herbts, it sucks seeing her in a supporting role, concidering she made headlines w/ contract negotiations one would think she be front and center , i just don’t get why the powers in charge continue to under utilize her. to me GH was the best soap, but clearly it a bias opinion since i only watch GH, so i’ll let DOOl enjoy being named best soap since they haven’t had any attention in years, and after years of writers who clearly couldn’t deliver, i’m curious to see how long (maybe a few years) it will take for fans to grow tired of the newly crown soap maker of the year Ron C , hate to be a debby downer to them because he did a lot of good for GH, but he also made it very bad, so bad thats the reason he got let go, that was music to alot of GH fans, we did have to wait a while for a worthy replacement but i think we finally scored w/ Mr. van etten. Back to GH, SB as best comeback yes as Best actor, um no, miss Rebecca Budig, the powers at be need to get her back.

She will come back someday..with Finn’s baby! What a story that will be! It’s all in the planning of her exit I think.

Agreed, Therese….I said the same thing as soon as Hayden informed Finn ( by letter) that she had lost the baby.
I hope we are both right. I do like Anna and Finn, right now….trying to hide their true feelings for each other adds a little heart-twisting emotions. Awwwww.
But, nothing lasts forever…..what a great plotline it would be if Hayden did, indeed, show up with a baby. I like the way you think.
Est-ce que tu parles francais?

on one end of the spectrum… i’m just glad that GH will never let her go. she’s so stunning… so invaluable.. so exquisite. GOD – she can act. that’s a fact.

I believe that @GH uses her caliber and presence… to help PROP.

look how quickly she became attached to Billy Miller… as Jake Doe…. dag ! I fell in love with them from the start.

NOW … terminally or otherwise… she’s propping Roger Howarth… AND, YES, he still needs that… as his character

LIKE SO MANY CHARACTERS SHELLEY AND FRANK PET.

Nina , Franco, Dr. Finn… are wasted talent.. and i’m certain a lot of wasted cache

so… once all the hoopla of Steve Burton ebb and flow… same ole.

GH writers haven’t written for these characters worth, and our time.

I LOVE Rebecca Herbst to bits – i’m only hoping that down the road… when Steve burton comes down to earth… and tries acting… that his eyes will fit some how to his “beloved” and “rich” history.

Liz has chemistry with the whole cast. there’s never been one character she hasn’t shared and REELED. i’m waiting out a Jason, Drew.. Griffin… heck… Kevin … HELLO GH.

I love Roger, Patric. But, I am having a hard time getting a grip on the present Franco. I like Nin’s Franco so much better.
Something has been list between then and now….I do not know from whence he comes.
I hope once his mind, his thoughts are not so a’ jumbled. Now, the dream is not only hsunting him but me, as well…..my interest has, somewhat, been piqued.
Loooove Roger’s walk….yeah, I notice stuff like that….real-guy walk.

Sorry, but I couldn’t disagree more about Burton, I honestly havent seen anything impressive from and certainly birthing to warrant all of the rear end kissing in this article. But I forgot the bias you’ve always shown in his regard.

your right 100% they ride on his looks

awww c’mon!
Steve Burton jumped down through a skylight and that gives him the honor of being the greatest ever! the greatest!
bwha that was the stupidest thing I have ever read for parise of a soap actor; he jumped down shattering prop glass AWESOME! (shaking head rolling eyes)

How low the bar has been set ..

Kelly, YOU are absolutely right! Thanks for stating what many of us also see…

the bandwagon is so chock full of mesmerize – his blue eyes took the whole lot

i’m not waiting the fallout. the stench of waste …. perhaps GH will let us watch him sleep

Kelly, I’m glad you said it. I don’t dislike SB, but I’m genuinely mystified by the devotion he warrants, particularly on this site. Not to mention rewriting/revamping the entire show to accommodate his return. And I guess I’m in a minority because his looks do nothing for me (maybe years ago when he had regular hair?). We all have our favorites, I guess. I’m glad mine is Billy.

I disagree so much. Just love Steve for many years. However if you truly dont understand the character of Jason or have watched him since the early 90s someone might not love him as much as so many long time viewers do.

Agree w/almost all YR and GH (except I’m good with Amy’s brother being gone. Respect & thank him for his service though). I want to watch the Daytime Emmy show this year so I can see Steve Burton get one for YR and one for GH. (Has that ever happened before?) His performances on both shows have been absolutely outstanding! Best recurrent actor I would choose Bradford Anderson as GH’s Spinelli. That has to be the most unique character on TV and has to be a super hard role to play. Yet Bradford does it flawlessly and is rarely seen. Dom did get that Valerie story but…sadly cops rarely get great ones. Man Landers???? Another example is Doug Davidson. GREAT YR actor, fan favorite yet never gets a really good storyline. Cop curse strikes again. Most of all I’m happy to see GH is must-see TV again! 🙂

Your choices are so predictable & may I say Billy Miller owned that room in the reveal. You always seem to diss Kelly Monaco, it amazes me at how bias you are in all of your write ups. Sorry but SB was definitely not the best actor. The only one you really did get correct & I am surprised you even gave it to them was the “Best Couple”. I really expect better if you want me to continue reading your blog. “disappointed”

Billy Miler acts ring’s around Burton if he was so good , why didn’t he stay Y&R, hard work those actor’s are on the money I don’t think he deserve that award

Billy Miller’s acting talent is a phantom above Steve Burton’s..
The praise put on SB is misplaced and should have, without a doubt, been given to Billy Miller.
Billy Miller, his acting, his emotions shown, is atop SB’s greatly.

what a shame Billy Miller didn’t get the recognition he deserves..

I’m sorry but I respectively disagree… Steve out acted Billy with a mask on, while sitting in a chair, doped up on horse tranquilizers..not saying a word! Billy is a good actor but doesn’t hold a candle to Steve. Most soap actors can’t come even close to Steve’s acting abilities! With the exception of Maurice Bernard and Tony Geary…jmo. Steve was and still is the heart and soul of GH. He was so missed these last 5 years. He was and still is GH’s beloved golden boy. I’m 35 and until my generation dies out I am afraid that will continue to be the case. My generation might be the last left to have witnessed and appreciated what GH’s beloved JM brought to this show.

Disagree. Steve is an amazing actor. Having watched him play Jason for 20 years he is hitting out of the park. Billy is good too but for me Steve is number 1.

I noticed that you cover Downto Abbey as a soap but what about the real British soap Eastenders? Honestly I try to watch GH daily and at least an episode of Days weekly but I make sure to NEVER miss an episode of Eastenders which comes on 4 nights a week….
And I do agree that Eileen Davidson deserves the Emny this year. After winning it for Kristens returnher portrayal of Susan and the way she stepped seamlessy back into her side characters shoes once again was priceless.
Shes always been able to make you believe these are 2 different women not just a Kristen lookalike.

Watching The Bold and Beautiful is like turning to the Comedy Channel. I laugh and laugh and laugh. My eyes hurt from the “roll” effect….someone needs to stop the sleazy music too……very funny show!

B&B is stunning aesthetically and I love the characters…but they should win the redundancy award (how many times can Bill flashback to sex with Steffie, how many times can Liam apologize and fawn all over her, how many times can Katie and Wyatt “do it?” How many times can Bill, Ridge, Thorne tell Brooke they love her and they’re meant to be together…how many times can Brooke giggle?

Talk about redundant! How many times did I say how many times???

🙂

I belief Days of our Lives scene with JJ should read Best actor and I believe Gabby should be best actress for saving him.

Agree with most but SB jumping off a roof that was the greatest stunt really , I can say not since he been back on G H he haven’t done nothing and the ideal.they are try to showcase him and say best actor please that so not true. GH has plenty of great actor that has carried this show for 12 month not 4 month . Get real SB is back good they have a contract because is sure not loyal and neither are they..

Nell..GH..love to hate..need category
Sam..GH.. best actress…not Ava..
Go Oscar..GH
Michael..GH..love your acting..continue to work hard.
Sally..BB..you were excellent..miss you

I wasn’t a Hayden fan so Rebecca’s departure had little effect on me. I much prefer Finn with Anna and I think the chemistry between Michael and Finola is much more dynamic.

Great call on Charles Easton/Nashville. He’s been the troubled, angst-ridden, battling- demons guy since the beginning and yet with one flash of a smile or a song he steals the show and melts hearts. Hoping now that sadly, Nashviile, is in its last season he lands a great, new role.

Also loved Steve Burton’s Jason crashing through the ceiling and how they filmed it. Very effective/powerful. Conveyed not just action but love as he, without a moment’s hesitation, jumped in (literally) to save Sam.

And, yes, B&B is beautiful. They have the most gorgeous sets, outdoor scenes, fashion. Stunning.

I agree with many of the choices made. I do hope that Y&R gets some credit for the year end shows being penned by Mal Young. This show is on Fire again with the Abbott siblings feuding over Jabot Cosmetics and who should be in charge. Eileen Davidson (Ashley) and Peter Bergman (Jack) are killing it. It’s nice having Beth Maitland (Traci) in the mix too. The focus is back on core characters and being true to Y&R’s rich history. I’m loving it in ways I haven’t enjoyed since Bill Bell was writing.

Why doesnt Tracy stay on and take care of Dina?

Y&R Agree, most ridiculous story line with “actress” who plays Tessa, the sex trafficing ring. No one cared by their comments and such a doll, boring, portrayal.

haa! ohh gorsh… the Sex Trafficking story and the Man Landers story gotta laugh over the stupidity over both of them.
They have to be the worst of the worst ..
How embarrassing for the creator/writers of them ..

I liked the Man Landers story. It gave Amy a personality..which I think is quite adorable…I’d love to see her contribute her column to Crimson!

I also liked the chemistry between Amy and Nathan…both actors seemed to enjoy the lighthearted fare that actually showed the goodheartedness of each.

It wasn’t “much-see” TV…but it was sweet, cute and a break from Sonny and Carly!

@su…. “Ask Man Landers” was quite possibly one of the worst GH storylines of all time! (It certainly ranked right up there with the Clusterfluke and Dunkleman Dude Debacle….) Just the ridicule-worthy name alone was enough to sink its preposterous premise from the very beginning, and the addition of the highly-nervewracking Nurse Amy character to the mix made this an unbearable tale from start to finish. The only bright spot was Chris Van Etten’s Chet…..casting a real-life vet at least provided a welcome touch of realism to this otherwise truly implausible scenario.

Shay—
The Dunkleman !!
I loved that guy!
he was pure campy character soap..
Now, I miss the Dunkleman Guru !

Su…I loved the Dunk, too! He was an evil Spinelli with an accent! (love my Spinelli.)

rebecca, hi..
ahhh the Dunkelman, he was awesome!
An unusual character, I really liked him, something different for sure.
I could go for another round of The Dunkelman !!!!!

I don’t understand why Steve Burton is getting all the accolades as Jason when Billy is the one who put all the work in this past year and did a fantastic job ! The man is on fire , why was he snubbed here ?

Oh, Jackie, I’m so with you on this. Have you seen the pain in Drew’s face and eyes lately? Billy is just awesome at conveying hurt and pain and has that “cuddle me” dreaminess that SB doesn’t convey to me at all (just the same two or three expressions). As the story progresses, I think it’ll be more apparent who’s got the real acting chops. Besides, I’d love to see Billy with Emmy #4 someday soon.

Disagree. Love Steve, Billy is great but Steve is amazing.

Jackie, as I have said in another post. I think people are reveling in the reveal, the return , the reunion of Jason and his loved ones, and they are directing all this love, etc ,towards Steve Burton, who has made all this so rewarding to the fans. Boy, look what I did with all those R’s. Does any of what I said, make sense?

You, absolutely, make all the sense in the world to me, Violet. Alliteration always works, Violet…good show, LOL.
People are definitely reveling in the return…..awaiting the second coming? Many feel that Jason is usurping a role which he abandoned years ago for selfish readons and is now hogging it. I don’t know….
I was not watching then….however, that’s the message I’ve been getting by many of the posts I’ve been reading.

Tell me about it… Billy may have his “mumbling” moments, but, he is such a ‘piercing’ actor—-I feel him.
Steve is great…but, now the character is stale.
I get so annoyed when people compare the two. Billy should get ALL the applause…he worked his tail off in his own rendition of what/who Jason was.
Steve and Billy are different individuals….each offering his best, as said individuals.
Billy was in no way trying to imitated Steve’s Jason……actually he did his damnedest to go the other way, which gave us that big tell-tale sign that something did not mesh….the screws did not fit .
Billy is just as amazing….what Steve has over him is age and experience.

Days, Days, Days…. it’s the only soap I don’t watch, but it sure got a lot of awards for being the Fourth Watch soap.

I agree the return of Sheila was not very good at all especially when we know what Sheila has done in the past when she wanted a man. Also I feel the couple Steffie and Liam should have been recognized for all they went through this year to get back together at last. The most evolved character should have been a category and that I feel was Quinn she did a complete turn around. Ridge and Eric yes you gave them their props and I am good with that. Sallie 2.0 yes she played her part. I feel the plot where Rick fell in love with a man changed into a woman was worth some sort of mention and then all the family went through when they asked the sister to have their baby all of that was good story line in my book it kept me watching. That whole situation was new and different really worth recognition.

Lucas was awesome on days hope to see more of Lucas in 2018

Days of Our Live’s Susan Banks is nothing more than a one-trick-pony cringe-worthy cartoon. Who are you kidding???

@ Thad Bosley. You are right in one respect, BUT , the actress that portrays Susan Banks, being Eileen Davidson, is the person getting the credit . She was the one giving the performance, that only she can do.

If this is all you Have? Why is Y&R the #1 soap all these years and NOT Days of our Lives or General Hospital? This must be your personal Favorites! And I thought you were an unbiased reporter/author. Can you change my mind?

#1 in the Nielsen Ratings, which means the small sample of viewers watching who might not necessarily like what they’re watching, but simply watching for various reasons. Plus, Nielsen counts people 2 years old and up. Maybe Y&R adult watchers have more children ( and possibly more adults in diapers) than other soaps.

Arianne Zucker needed a mention, what a loss when Nicole left Days!

agree!!!

Love reading your articles! Maura West never disappoints as far as I’m concerned!

Maura West – reigns supreme.

this is neither here nor their… whos’s writing !

yeah… it’s jarring… to see Ava get ALL bent out of shape… she’s not that insecure of a woman… over “her” scars… at this point it looks nothing more than a pimple. get over that, Ava.

any way… she gets off the elevator.. and sees Kiki and Griffin hugging it out. and , SIGH, Morgan flashback… she gives Kiki the 3rd degree… and what amounts to jelousy… as they bicker back and forth…. and Grifin also can’t believe it.

AVA ! after all the , what seems like years, on the mend.. with and for your daughter ! your child.. you go off the rails ? how dare you do this to Kiki.

the writing is suspect.. as they try to get the rest of the cast things to do. shock value.. just like when Monica hit the grid and lost her sensitivity and let Kim have it about gold digging,

at this point… I WANT Ava to pull out all the stops… and apologize .. beg forgiveness. sheesh… so what does Griffin do ? he tells Ava .. he’s found a safer “formula” and technique just for her scars

la di da – such is life. get on the stick and find Kiki.

I disagree about Jennifer and Eric love them being a couple, they both deserve a good relationship. I did not like Eric with Nicole at all. Love JJ and his heart breaking performance it was so sad. DOOL is coming back as GREAT.

jen and eric both deserve a good relationship sure but together they are dull. Jen will always be second to Nicole for Eric. Jen should have a man who has experienced life and is ready to settle down with her. Jen shouldnt have to try so hard to make her man even look at her. She deserves better then Eric

Le’ts get real — Melissa Reeves is almost always dull, which is why pairing her with Matthew Ashford (who is crazy fun) is the only thing that made her character work. She played Ashford’s straight man effectively, but she’s never been a very dynamic or interesting actress. Aside from a couple of dramatic reveal episodes over the years (which were boosted by stellar co-star performances), watching Jennifer is like watching paint dry.

Jane Eliot is sorely missed…we need Skye back to take her place in the Q home…

Skye could never take Tracy’s place. Robin Christopher is a fine actress, but Skye is a fake Q

She could never take her place, but Robin Christopher certainly has the chops to fill the void left in that house (and NO, annoying Olivia doesn’t come close to doing that).

I only watch Days & GH. I agree with everything you said except the Most Boring Couple isn’t Jennifer and Eric. They at least have a smile and chemistry. My choice would be Rafe & Hope. I see nothing between them I would almost love a triangle and Rafe gets crazy for Ciara.

have to disagree no chemistry between jen and eric they are as bad as rafe and hope. Jen/eric are great as friends but thats all. Sitting around playing scrabble is boring.

Jen and Eric have no chemistry they are together because Days has nothing for them to do and they are single. I can tell both actors are trying hard to make it work but it just seems so forced. Both characters would be better with someone new. How about a Rafe/Hope/Jen triangle.

Sorry Cat. I don’t see any more chemistry between Eric and Jennifer, than he and Sammi. I love Rafe and Hope, but not together. I actually liked her with the guy, she married, and who tried to kill her, forgot his name. I just thought they were good together, and wished they had done the SL different. Sometimes in the soaps, there is only a certain couple that”fit” like Hope and Bo, or Steve and Kayla.

Perfect post, Violet. Exactly what I would have said. Eric and Jennifer look like mother and son.
Plus…Jennifer needs a new hairstylist……Did not much care for that donut on her head.

Can I just say that while the story of two Jasons has been okay, I am SO over all this Steve Burton hoopla. That dude has one acting note. Just one. Stare. That is all he can do. Yes God above blessed him with blue eyes but that’s all the blessing he got because he CAN NOT ACT his way out of a paper bag. And seriously, he fell through a window. Bruce Willis did stuff like that in the Die Hard movies of the 90’s. And look at his carerr, OVER! Mr Burton is not worthy of any praise at all because he does nothing other than feed Sonny’s ego and shoot people on command. Oh yeah and whine about wanting Sam. And then they take my Carly and make her his puppet, when we all know all she wants is his……well you know…and so does everyone else. For her to sit there and manipulate him and Sam into being together while professing to “care” for Drew’s well being is beyond ridiculous. This story is bearable because Kelly Monaco has delivered in her role. She is truly conflicted even though I know where she will end up and then Billy Miller will have nothing to do. Sam will be pregnant, who is the father? Well just to liven things up can we have the father be Valentin or Franco when Sam gets a tumor and goes to bed with the available men in Port Charles! I think the story from GH that needs more air time is Ava and Griffin. Give them the beef already. Stop wasting time with this “kiss the lily white buttocks” of Mr. Burton. The biggest waste of money since President Cheeto went into office. Short and sweet, any accolades given to DAYS since Carlivati came on board are WELL deserved because he has PRODUCED!! The stories he has are on fire. The acting is better and the scene is being dominated by some amazing characters. JJ’s suicide storyline made this hard dude cry like a baby. Eve and Brady are smoking up the scene. Vivian is BACK!!! Sami came, conquered and left a mess for everyone to clean up! Will is acting like a real gay man. Not settling for Sonny and the picture perfect “married” life. Sorry but Will is portraying things as they happen in a young gay man’s life. And his fascination with Paul has some real heat. Judi Evans as Adrienne knocked it out of the park. Bryan Datillo did magic with Lucas and his sorry ass drunk story. He truly showed his chops. He needs recognition for that. Eileen Davidson, three roles and fire with all 3 in a short stint. Tyler Christopher is back to light up the wood works. I am so excited about DAYS. B&B is a yawn inducer, I only watch to go to sleep when my herbal remedy fails me. And Y&R made me furious by having Mariah come out and then basically throwing back in the closet by ending the story with ZERO explanation. You don’t come out and then just pretend none of it happened. Camryn Grimes is one of the best young actresses out there. Comic timing. Dramatic chops and quite a beautiful young lady and she gets slapped around. The continual over use of Victor in every story is scary because he is no spring chicken. He is pretty close to meeting his maker and what will happen when he does go? There is not one person who can take his place. The only thing I have enjoyed this year is Dina and Gloria. Those two ladies are scene stealers. Give them more. So in closing GH= BURTON a big ole PASS. DAYS = YES YES and YASSSSSS! B&B = thank you for letting me catch up on sleep. Y&R= get your act together because throwing people in closets and singular vision get a show in trouble. Ask Dina Higley, she knows!

Mateo, your comments on Burton: AMEN! BRAVO! SPOT ON!

Mateo be careful what you say about Victor meeting His Maker because you may meet your maker before him. The last people I heard make a statement as that- met their maker long before the people of whom they were speaking .

“close to meeting his maker?” wow! first, he’s only 76 which in today’s world, a relatively healthy person can live well into his/her 90s. Some of the best musicians are touring and they’re in their 70s. Some primetime shows have older adults as their stars. Eric Braeden looks great for a man of ANY age and if his health matches his looks I wouldn’t worry…

it’s the longevity of soaps we have to worry about….

I am hearing that the Emmy this year, will be in SB’s likeness, or else!!

Mateo – “Thank you ” for your excellent summation (s)

your closing remarks: “..in closing GH= BURTON a big ole PASS. DAYS = YES YES and YASSSSSS! B&B = thank you for letting me catch up on sleep. Y&R= get your act together ”

I am clearly and truly at the end of the waiting game for this twin debacle. not a farce… as he’s been on for 20 years already. just do not see the allure . it’s become a caricature surely… for all the “dead’ Pan of his infamous blue eye

my posts are clearly not vested in the Corinthos @GH. that’s constant… so seeing the writing regime pull out all the stop… Steve Burton , the 2nd coming of anti Christ… you can’t be serious

this show is worth a whole lot more. i’ll add my turn

WOAH… thank you again.. for the write up of DAYS. to see and read acknowledgement of this genre as a whole… AND it’s DAYS that is fitting the bill. RIGHT ON

Salute

Okay, Billy Miller gets you excited and Steve Burton does not. End of story! Willis and Burton were both relevant in the 90’s. Willis is not in 2018, Burton, we are talking about!

President Trump being elected didnt cost you or this country one dime!

Griffin and Ava have ZERO chemistry.

One thing we do agree on is NO ONE can ever replace Eric Braeden!

Days Of Our Lives

Stephen Schnetzer Talks On His Return to Days of our Lives and Working with Susan Seaforth Hayes In Emotional Episodes

Who says you can’t go home again? In the case of Another World favorite, Stephen Schnetzer (ex-Cass Winthrop), he has proven that it is true, and you can go back to your soap roots and where it all started for you.

Last week on April 11th, Schnetzer, along with several other key returns were on set at Days of our Lives taping all-new episodes of the Peacock streaming soap opera, centering on the funeral of Doug Williams (the late Bill Hayes), and as part of the iconic soap opera’s 15,000th episode.

Stephen is reprising his first daytime role as Steve Olson, the brother of Julie Williams (Susan Seaforth Hayes). The last time Schnetzer appeared on a DAYS set was during his one and only run on the show from 1978 to 1980. Clearly, viewers will be in for some very emotional scenes when Steve returns to Salem to be there for his sister, Julie in her time of need. In real-life, Susan has been going through her own grief, having just lost Bill back on January 12th at the age of 98.

Photo: NBC

Michael Fairman TV caught up with Stephen during the 15K episode celebration ceremony, and during a break from taping the gut-wrenching funeral scenes, to get his thoughts on being part of these highly-anticipated moments that will air later this year in December. Here’s what he shared with us below.

What has this been like for you to work with Susan Seaforth Hayes after all of these years?

STEPHEN: She’s a dream and she’s so bright. We ran lines yesterday and we ended up just visiting for about 45 minutes and just catching up and telling tales about each other’s career. She even dropped off the autobiography that she and Bill did. And being back here at DAYS, every time I turn a corner, there’s another familiar face. When I was on the show 40 more years ago, a bunch of the guys, played softball on a team together. This is really a trip down memory lane as I knew it would be.

Photo: JPI

Taping Doug’s funeral must be a hard day for Susan. Are you checking in with her to help hold her up through this?

STEPHEN: I am and I’m checking in with Amy Shaughnessy (Susan’s assistant), and she’s holding her up more than anybody. We’re there for each other.

There will obviously be some major hankie-inducing moments when Steve comes back to Salem to console his sister.

STEPHEN: Oh, wait till you see it in December. It’s going to be great.

Were you surprised you got this call to come back to the show decades later?

STEPHEN: It was out of the blue! I was completely surprised. They should have called me decades ago! That’s what surprised me. When Another World went down, I thought I’d land somewhere else and it never happened. That was more of a surprise.

Photo: JPI

Cass is such an identifiable character for you. As well, you and Linda Dano (ex-Felicia Gallant) are so synonymous together as best friends Cass and Felicia from Another World. When fans heard you were reprising your role as Steve Olson on DAYS, they are now hoping there will be more of you on the show to come.

STEPHEN: Steven Olson is a real “Cassian “character. I cut my teeth on Steve Olson and that’s how Cass was introduced. He was kind of a roguish charmer. And then when the character stuck for Another World, they rehabilitated me, and turned me into one of the shows heroes. And that’s what would’ve happened if I stayed as Steve Olson probably. So, Steve is the ‘pre-Cass’, Cass.

Photo: JPI

As the story goes, you originally decided to leave Days of our Lives?

STEPHEN: I was never on contract. I was doing a day and a half a week and I got a Broadway play directed by Franco Zeffirelli starring Joan Plowright and Frank Finlay. I was able to it as I didn’t have to break a contract or anything. I cut loose and went back to New York for that.

How well did you get to know Bill Hayes during your first time around on DAYS?

STEPHEN: My first episode was with Bill and Susan, as her long lost brother coming into Salem. They were so good to me. They were so kind. I had been doing eight years of classical repertory theater, never been in front of a camera. I tell everybody, it took me longer than any other actor I’ve ever seen to get comfortable in front of a camera. And they were very supportive at that time in my career. Coming back to honor Bill now in 2024, and to be see Susan, I am just so happy to be here.

Looking forward to seeing the scenes between Stephen and Susan Seaforth Hayes come December and Doug’s funeral and surrounding episodes? Do you hope that DAYS might bring the character of Steve Olson back for a longer stay? Comment below.
