Tomorrow is a big day for soap fans and those of Days of our Lives, because that is when Peter Reckell officially begins airing on the NBC soap opera, which is getting ready to celebrate its 50th anniversary two months from now.

Reckell is back as the iconic Bo Brady, and in an interview with Yahoo TV previewing what will happen with Bo back on the canvas, the popular actor reveals what prompted his decision to return to the series.  He also teases what fans can expect when Bo leaving Hope is finally addressed, working with his new SORAS’d on-screen daughter Vivian Jovanni, and longtime scene partner Kristian Alfonso (Hope).  Here are a few interesting excerpts:

Peter on the awkward way Bo was written off the canvas: “When Bo was written off before, it was so awkward. I don’t know, it just didn’t work. Her moving on or her holding on to him — it was just awkward, kind of weird. To have something happen during this time when Bo comes back, to explain what happened and help the audience through this change in the relationship, that’s what these writers were able to do. I can’t say enough how proud I am of them for the way they handled the writing of this ([return for Bo).

Peter on what will happen when Bo and Hope come face-to-face for the first time:  “I think you’d have to say, history, powerful, and love. It’s a powerful love history. That’s what I can say.”

Peter on working with the new Ciara, Vivian Jovanni: “I just want to say that Vivian Jovanni is amazing. That’s difficult, because I’m in love with Lauren Boles, and to have her replaced, I got to admit, at first I was disappointed. But what they’ve done, the way they’ve handled the character and her growing up, was really cool. She’s a great mixture of the characters of Bo and Hope. I think the audience is really going to connect to their relationship, because we did get to spend a lot of time together, the two characters. She’ll be kind of carrying the mantle of Bo onward.”

Peter on what fans can expect in the months ahead as familiar and beloved favorites return to the series:  “I hope you feel when you watch it that it’s just so powerful because of the history that we all have together. You’re going to witness some amazing moments of daytime TV that I haven’t experienced in my 30 years. The disappointments and struggles that the audience had to continue to watch over the last couple of years, I’m almost guaranteeing those will just disappear, because they’ll get exactly what they want in this next couple of months. I think they’ll be very pleased.”

So, excited for Tuesday’s DAYS and the return of Peter Reckell as Bo Brady?  How do you think the writers explain will explain what happen to Bo that he never came back to Hope and Ciara?  Do you hope in the end that Bo and Hope reunite as a couple?  Share your thoughts in the comment section below!

Unfortunately, this article reveals that Peter’s stint is a short one that puts closure to Bope, which is so sad in my opinion. I am pretty confident that the writers kill him off. As much as I am looking forward to seeing him on canvas, I don’t want to invest in the show as I have done previously and I won’t be watching after he departs.

I agree with you, this is short term. Bo will be killed off, what’s the point of Peter returning. Days need not offer him a contract. What a shame. I love Peter Reckell, but Days is making a big mistake. they should have recasting Bo Brady with Michael Park ex Jack Snyder as The World Turns. Peter will be missed once he leaves Days Yet again. Days could not come to an agreement with Peter regarding a contract. Plus peter wasn’t happy with his character anymore.

A friend of mine in LA has just told me that there have rumours that Peter Reckell wants Bo Brady killed off. Don’t know if that’s true or not. But it would make sense if Peter is done with the character.

I hope not! I tuned in today just to see him. I also loved the Bo and Hope flashbacks. I wounder if the TPTB will change their minds after they witness the soaring ratings?

Harry, If TPTB change their minds about killing off Bo Brady then they will have to recast him because apparently Peter Reckell is not interested staying longer than three months.

I agree bo is important to days of our lives

I have heard, don’t know if it’s true, that Peter Reckell only agreed to give DOOL three months which is why the writers may kill Bo. I really hope not. If Peter does leave after three months I hope the writers think of another plan.

Yeah me too. Killing him off would be lazy writing and if he didn’t like being written off three years ago he won’t like it now either. I was hoping he was back for good, if not I hope he can keep returning.

@blake – I don’t think that it would be fair to Hope having Bo walk in and out of her life at will. Killing Bo off may be the writer’s way of allowing Hope to really move on. If they DO recess Bo, I hope they take their time and choose the right actor. I just know that it can’t be Robert Kelker Kelly. Robert was very good on GH as Stavros BUT when last on Days he was reportedly inappropriate with the younger girls.

I think Peter Reckell will change his mind; audience will love him so much he will “come to terms” on a lucrative contract–and stay! Mark my words.
Days is doing everything right now; how can the actor resist the great writing–and the great love? It’s every actor’s dream!

I hope Days is able to work something out and keep Peter. Bo and Hope are the best couple.I love to watch Bo and Steve work together. I also love the adventures Bo and Hope do together. Please Days do what ever it takes to keep Peter on there!

i believe th in 2016 at bo brady will returning to dool when stefano and teams starting planning danger then bo will showing there

UGHH….While i’m glad he came back..he’s just so dang full of himself and his importance to the Days canvas that he just says too much with saying so little..

He’s like RonnMoss/TonyGeary 2.0 and so many other 80’s sensations that just can’t adjust to age and 30 years of viewers tastes changing..BE RELEVANT NOW….GOSH!!!!!

YEP! Dave, you’re correct.

I’m thrilled that Days is bringing back some beloved vets for the 50th, I hope some of them stick around for the long haul. Days is on FIRE right now with everything from storylines, characters, sets, lighting and music. If you haven’t watched in a while, or are looking to soap jump, NOW is the time!!! Days is BACK!!!

Today’s episode 9/8 was REALLY good. Not only with Bo back but with the other stories also.

Megan Hathaway is alive and holding him hostage…ok its Larry Welch???…i really dont know but itll be interesting to see what happens!!!

I think Aidan and Clyde are involved…..I don’t know what Clyde is holding over Aidan’s head….then again, the writers don’t even know, at this point…they are teasing us.
Somehow, Aidean’s relationship with Hope; his wanting to marry her, has everything to do with Bo’s captivity….there’s a link there.
Oh, Jimmy, I am learning so much from you….I picked up you’re vibe. How am I doing? LOL.

Well, my idea was right….but, not the culprit. Aidan is taking orders from Stefano. He has Bo.
Hmmmm. Getting interesting!
Where does Clyde fit in? Could he be working for/with Stefano? How can that be? Clyde killed (presumably) EJ.

Aiden’s secret is on today’s episode. Today was great.

You’re a quick learner…lol

@blake.
Yes, today’s episode was pivotal. Haven’t been this excited about Days in a long time. Enjoy, Days lovers!!

I think Paige will turn out to have an identical twin sister and its one of them dead in the shower in a kind of a nod to when Marlena’s twin Samantha was murdered back in the 80s by the Salem Strangler and some thought it was Marlena….???

@jimh.
I heard about Deirdre’s real life twin. Anything is possible. Maybe, Paige is just knocked out?

I think Bo and Hope are supposed to be together. My biggest concern is whether or not Peter Reckell will remain with the show.

The only reason Daniel Cosgrove was hired as Aiden was to provide a love interest for Hope after Peter left the show. The audience accepted Aiden because everyone knew Peter was the one who made the decision to leave. (Daniel Cosgrove has done a wonderful job as Aiden.) So now, how committed is Peter to the show? Is he going to be there for the long haul? Or is he going to up and leave the role high and dry?

Bope as a legendary super couple is easy to believe and accept as far as the fiction goes. But when one of the actors in the super couple leaves the role like Peter did it gives me as a viewer pause to be cautious about believing in the future of the super couple.

What if Peter decides to leave again? That will put the character of Hope baçk at square one where Days viewers did not like seeing Hope without a love interest. The bottom line is this: Peter Reckell returning as Bo is great, wonderful, etc. But be careful how you write for the character of Aiden! (I know Days tapes five months in advance. So what I am saying here may be too little too late, but it is worth saying anyway.) Do not treat Aiden in such a way that he could not return to Hope’s life. Keep the story possibility open so that if Peter decides to leave again, the writers will have somewhere to go with the character of Hope. The audience’s acceptance of Daniel Cosgrove as Aiden, Hope’s love interest, was a gift to the show from the audience. Don’t take that gift for granted. It may be hard to come by again!

@gb

the men in Hope’ life : – Bo – Aiden – Rafe –

the million dollar question… and the consensus seems to be; Peter Reckell is not here for the long haul…. in this story arc… we are to see a reunited supercouple… and tragedy….

Aiden: the comfort level of these two together is relevant. No on wants Hope to have to start all over again… ( even if Rafe is all that, in the looks dept.)

Daniel Cosgrove did something that seemed insurmountable… LOL and that’s bring life back to Hope and Ciara Alice…. Dang ! that’s big!

Rafe’alicious: OK … i’m repeating myself on this post.. but.. i’m an avid fan. Hope and Rafe ?!?! it’s beyond measure and compare that these two hotties could

but why? when things were going along just fine with Aiden? ! ? ! there are no guarantees that Hope and Rafe would shift the earths core and align … LOL just saying… why does Hope have to start all over again?

what a problem for Kristian Alfonso… and the writing team

just give the audience some prop

Of course , you are right, Patrick. If Bo were to stay, then, yes, forget Aidan. But, we all know Bo ‘s appearance on the show will be short-lived. Be that as it may, there are too many dark clouds hovering over Aidan. So, if not he, then who? Rafe? I love your so-well-phrased analysis: “there are no guarantees that Hope and Rafe would shift the earth’s core and align….”….Perfect foresight! I don’t see these two together either. I do believe Aidan does care for Hope, but, as we are beginning to be somewhat enlightened, his intentions are far from noble. He is spurred along by Stefano who is obviously holding something over his head. My confusion, Patrick, is ….what the heck does Clyde have to do with all this? How does he fit in? I do not like Aidan so much, but, for Hope’s sake, Aidan will turn out to be a good guy afterall. I just have this nagging feeling that he really did kill his wife and Stefano knows it??

According to his answers Peter will not be on the show very long. Sucks.

Why did they bring him back if they’re just going to kill him off. Bo and Hope need to be together as a family. Please don’t write Bo out of the show. Can’t there be terms that agree with Peter? I love them!

It seems he didn’t want to come back for good and only wanted to wrap up his story with Bo and give the fans closure. Seems Peter is happier working with his hands and being with his family. They show had a hard time keeping him over the years, he always left and that ‘s why they recast Bo in the early 90’s.

Gmbenet, I have heard that Peter Reckell is only back for something like three months. That apparently is all time he is willing to give to Days. After that, Peter Reckell is apparently done. There are rumours that Bo is going to be killed off. Ken Corday has said that those who are killed off will really be dead; they will not be brought back. And, Corday has said that no character is safe from being killed off.

Thanks for the replies. I am aware of what Ken Corday told Soap Opera Digest regarding characters who die after September 1, 2015. What I did not know is that Bo is rumored to be killed off. If that is true it explains why Rafe has suddenly developed a crush on Hope. He will be Hope’s love interest after both Bo and Aiden are gone.

It also explains a comment by Peter Reckell in the recent interview he did regarding his return and in particular his relationship with Ciara. Peter said Ciara would carry on Bo’s legacy (of behavior). I found his use of the word “legacy” quite odd. However, if Bo is going to die it becomes understandable.

I am not happy about Bo being killed off, but I understand why the decision was made to do it. At this point no other actor could play Bo. So a clean break through death will allow Hope to move on without adverse reactions from fans. It will be for the good of the show.

Regardless, I am glad they addressed the issue head on and brought closure to it. It is just hard to see some main characters die.

That seems to be the key phrase: “. . .no other actor could play Bo.”
At least, not one that would satisfy the fans.

I cannot wait…huge Peter fan!

Me too I just hope he doesn’t die my heart can’t take it any more

Mine either. I love Bo Brady!

Can’t wait best super couple ever amazing chemistry bo and hope belong together

It’s so fun being a DAYS fan!!!!!

The excitement continues to build…DAYS is an incredible 5 alarm fire!!!!!

Was that Paiges twin sister who was murdered just like when Marlena’s twin Samantha was murdered by the original strangler back in the 80s and everyone thought Marlena was killed???

I agree. Days is delivering good stuff, albeit there are a few elements that are making me do a double-take. What’s up with Justin? How does someone go from Dr Jekyll to Mr Hyde, overnight? OK. Stupid question and stupid comparison since the premise of Jekyll and Hyde is an overnight transformation. HaHa.
What I mean is; someone does not suddenly turn from an ok guy to a tyrant without warning. The writers are going on a tangent here….running with Justin’s extreme change in personality. He’s harsh. Does his new ‘title’ give him a sense of power? Or is it that Kiriakis ‘charm’ and hate for all things DiMera making him so vindictive and unjust? He is supposedly an officer of the court he is to keep a fair mind…innocent until proven guilty….he cannot go around blasting potential defendants in a criminal case. That is a no-no. I don’t like it much when writers go against the grain of reality too much. I know, I know, I’m a pain in the arse. LOL. He should not be the one to ‘try’ Chad….not constitutional. LOL.
Well, thing is; I love Chad….he is sexy….those eyes!! I would beg the writers to not give him to Abby…ugh. The I-can’t-get-enough-of-EJ sex-pot turned good, little demure girl. She belongs with Ben….hope they bore each other to death.

Love the new story lines. Loved Bo. Glad to see him back.

I was originally thrilled to hear that he was finally, coming home! I am a life long fan and have always been a huge Bo and Hope fan and admirer! Love them both, like family! However, my excitement turned to horror and devastation when I recently read that they were bringing him back, just to kill him off as a Hero!!!! this breaks my heart! this is NOT, what real DAYS fans want to see! If Peter could not or would not agree to come back for the long hall, they should have left things like they were! Yes, his exit was poorly written three years ago. However, we still had hope that he would someday return! Now that hope is destroyed! This is a very cruel decision to Kill him off! WE, the fans do NOT, want to see that. WE don’t want a dead hero! WE want him back with us for the long hall! So, to the new writing team and especially, to Peter Reckell, Please….. change you mind! they can write another ending! Don’t let them kill your beloved character off and end this amazing relationship! I cannot and WILL NOT, watch him be killed off on DAYS! I will stop watching before that happens! I know that I speak for thousands of fans when I say this! Please….. come back to us for good!

Broken Hearted!

I know. Seems he only wanted to come back for three months but I think it would be stupid for him to be killed off.

How long is he back for?

Three months it seems.

it has to happen with Bo and Hope getting back together, in my opinion there is no other way.. the chemistry is there so excited to see Bo back as well as Steve and Gabi

It sounds like he won’t be on long as Bo from what I read. “I think the audience is really going to connect to their relationship, because we did get to spend a lot of time together, the two characters. She’ll be kind of carrying the mantle of Bo onward.”

I was really hoping that he was back for good. I hope Bo isn’t one of the victims.

I like seeing the bad side of Aiden, too bad he finally gets interesting when he is probably fired soon. Same with Paige, today she finally looks really hot and now she’s gone.

When Peter Reckell wanted to leaves days and the character of Bo back in 1987 to purse a prime time TV acting career he ended up on as I remember one prime time gig which was Knots Landing and as far as I know that was it for him in prime time TV and few years later he ended up wanting back on Days and after being back a few years he wanted out again and with that decision Days decided to recast Bo and Peter Reckell was very piss about it because he created the character and felt that he could only play the role and and a recast would not work.

Peter was so very wrong about his recast, when days hired Another World Robert K Kelly into the role of Bo Brady it brought a different twist to the role of Bo not only did they have Robert K Kelly grown a beard and mustache as original Bo had they made the written of him being Bo Brady to be so real and so good most fans and viewers had all but forgotten that Peter Reckell was Bo Brady.

The story lines with Robert K. Kelly was actually really good not only did he work and had scenes with every cast member, he also had chemistry with them all and days was at it highest in ratings and for some unknown reason Days decided to not renew Robert K. Kelly contract due to change in storylines with the character of Bo Brady so days write Bo off for one month with him leaving to go on a special assignment leaving days and the character of Bo Brady on July 6, 1995 and by August 1, 1995 Peter Reckell returns as Bo Brady and when that happen the dynamic of the character and the show involving around Bo had done all change with the return of Peter Reckell and I as many other was very mad and upset about the rehiring of Peter Reckell because we all knew he is a wild card when it comes to being on Days he left by choice in 1987 and left by choice in 1992 and was now wanting back on the show almost shortly after he left after seeing how good Robert K. Kelly was so good and better I say as Bo so days decided to call Peter and or Peter decide to call them wanting back on the show.

I knew that bringing Peter back to days would be a bad mistake because Peter after a while gets really boared and be wanting to do different projects and I knew as well as others that Peter would eventually leave and after being back playing Bo since August 1, 1995 Peter Reckell would again leaving Days which was November 2012. After Peter wanted out again after playing Bo for a third time and this time around was the longest time of 17 years, I started thinking back to the year 1995 when they let Robert K. Kelly go, I went back thinking that to say what if they had Kept Robert K Kelly on the show instead of brining back Peter Reckel would Robert K Kelly still be playing Bo present day and where would the character of Bo be if Robert K Kelly would still be on Days.

I was also very mad with the decision that days decided not to recast the role of Bo because they wanted to leave the role open for Peter Reckell to return one day as Bo and with that I and others said that would not be fair to Kristian Alfonso who plays Hope to the character of Bo for two and a half years Hope was very boring and a sideline character with out Bo they last year 2014 decided to give Hope a love interest which has work out for her as well as the show and what new writers meaning old ones returns to the show and Peter wanted back in on days so now they the writers change Hope love interest into being a bad guy who is not really in love with her because Bo Brady played by Peter Reckell is and has return and so say only for a short run to say be killed after a three month stint as Bo.

What I wish and hope is this return of Bo Brady is not short but on a long term base and they do not kill off the Chracter of Bo Brady if Peter Reckell only wanted to return for a short cameo well they should try their best to reach out to Robert K Kelly ask him to return to the role of days give him a two or three year contract and if Robert K Kelly decline on returning do a mass cast role call out for the contract role of people and make sure the new Bo has chemistry with the actress who plays Bo’s wife or now ex wife Hope Brady and this time around do not bring Peter Reckell back as Bo meaning if he calls to say he wants to return tell him no because he is such a wild card

Days needs to let Peter Reckell go as Bo he is not stable with being on the show let him go as most of use have already did.

I actually preferred Robet Kelker Kelly. Back in the day, he was so hot. However , he retired from acting for a number of years. When GH brought him back as Starvos for a short stint during their ‘anniversary’ celebration, it was clear that his skills as an actor wtere not quite as sharp. He over acted and basically came across as annoying to watch onscreen. I have not enjoyed Reckell for many years, and his interviews in the press make him seem entitled and arrogant. I wish they did not drop Aiden to bring back Bo. I enjoy Kristian Alfonso and she deserves a more dependable acting partner than Reckell- who seems ready to leave soon after the ‘anniversary’ story lines conclude.

I disagree! I think that Robert Kelker Kelly was the the perfect Stavros. That Cassadine was a nut job from the moment he first reappeared after all those years. You’d be to if you were kept by your mother in a deep freeze/

If he’s only back for 3 months, I wish he hadn’t returned.

same here

If it is 3 months it could lead to 3 years!!! Regardless, DAYS is a raging fire!!!!!

Peter Reckell is apparently only signed on for three months. Peter is, according to rumors, finished with the role of Bo Brady. He is 60 years old now, hard to believe I know. Like Tony Geary, Peter probably feels that it’s time to move on to other projects. And he does have a young daughter who needs more of his time and attention.

Amen to you, that’s how I feel too.

He could not stay too long he had to get back home and tie himself to a tree to protect the environment.

lmao!

He’s already left the building. They taped all of this already cause of Days silly 6 month tape schedule which is just Bonkers. I love when they announce someone is joining the cast, yet you wont see them till the following year. Some of the new castings wont even appear till 2016. But yeah Im a little bummed they brought him back for a Short Term stint. It makes no sense.

Plus you know this is just to clear the way for that Barf inducing Rafe/Hope pairing that Days is so excited to start. Ugh, we are losing Aidan for that. Shaking my head.

Big LOL! That is funny!

His big ego has more sap than that tree…lol

One cannot have cake and eat it too. So please, writers, do not try. If an actor is back but short term, please do not shoehorn a story into the proceedings that only has them leave again and leaves us spinning wheels in the mud. Bo and Hope, even I know them well and I did not watch DAYS during their prime. If you bring them together only to kill one or have him/her leave, then why? GH did that with Brenda and with Robin. Yes, it is soap but move story and remaining characters forward. Recast the actor so the character remains viable. The over-the-top machinations and extreme situations wear on me.

I love the Bo and Hope story, They’re my favorite Soap characters of all time!!

Ditto! I’ve watched Days for 45+ years and the Bo and Hope story was my all time favorite. I think they should try to work with Peter Reckell and come up with terms he will agree with. Him leaving will break my heart all over again.

When Peter Reckell left he had said it was ,due to not having much of a storyline hopefully the writers will give him enough of a challenge to make him want to stay I miss watching Bo and Hope together I’ve been watching the show for more years then I care to admit and they’ve always been a favorite

As TRAIVS THOMAS has said, Peter Reckell has already left the building. Don’t forget that DOOL tapes episodes 6 months in advance and Peter only agreed to be back for 3 months.

Bo will always be my first choice for Hope. I did like her with Aiden, but now that Bo’s back I’m all “Aiden who?” Aiden and Hope were nice, but Bo & Hope – fireworks! History! Legendary! That is what is drawing me back to DAYS, they are getting away from the “okay” pairings and giving us some pairings with pizzazz! Pairings to get excited about! Steve&Kayla, Bo&Hope, Chad&Abby, Eric&Nicole! I’d be more excited about John&Marlena if it weren’t just too darned easy for him to sweet-talk her into that bed. Love Caroline & Victor, anxious to see them with Bo.

The killer may claim Victor or Caroline’s life before Bo arrives!

Nooooo, don’t say that! LOL

The Tuesday show was the best one start-to-finish I have seen in months…Abby and Chad are the next SUPER couple. Sad about Paige. Ready to see ride back to Salam. Looking to his scenes with Ciera. I like Hope with Rafe.

I don’t like the actor playing Chad. Never have, so it’s hard for me to get on board with Chad and Abby, though I do think he is better for her than Ben.

Loved seeing Lauren again.

I am so happy bo back I have watched days for 50year and it just would not be days without bo and hope together it’s a love that u never get over they belong together 4ever so let it happen and stay that way plz

I have watched the romance of Bo and Hope since they first appeared on screen. They are one of my all time favorite couples. Days did romance better than any other soap and they gave us the best super couples, first Marlena and (the real) Roman, Bo and Hope, Shane and Kim, Kayla and Patch, Justin and Adrienne. The love stories hooked us.
While I was sad to see Peter Reckell leave, I had to respect his decision. But the way it was done was pathetic. It’s as if the (then) writers were angry and they left the story dangling.
It took a while to warm up to Aiden, but I have enjoyed their romance.
Now to ruin it and turn Aiden evil so that Peter Reckell can return for a few months is really a slap in the face for fans.
Aiden will also be killed off, and Chase will stay on.
It has been confirmed that Bo is being killed off.
(Someone on DC found Peter’s sister’s post on FB saying he was only back for a few months and then being killed off).
Yes, we want a happy ending for Bope, but not just for a few months.
I would rather they waited till Kristian was ready to leave or when the show is canceled (however long that takes) and have Bo and Hope exit together.
Days has the most loyal fans, so why be so disrespectful to kill half off the most enduring super couple in its history?
The writers want Hope with Rafe, but that is a poor substitute for what Bo and Hope had.
And since the show tapes 6 months in advance, Peter is already done taping.
He said a couple of years back that they did not want to raise their daughter in LA, so they had moved to Nashville.
Too bad DAYS can’t give Peter the same type of contract Y&R gave Steve Burton so that he can commute and be on DAYS regularly.
Bo’s death is NOT the Days 50th celebration that we loyal fans deserve.

Long term lonnnnnng term……
Don’t bring him back & dump him
Hit on someone else Brady , chad
Etcetcetc
Keep the good guys

I hope Bo and hope get back together. Also patch and kayla and John and marlana

I am sad to hear this is a short stint and that he will be gone in 3 months. Since that is the case he is already gone from set since they film 5 months in advance.

I also read Allison Sweeney is not happy with this necktie story line and killing all characters off, especially her son. I don’t think too many people are happy with the story lines.

If they kill off Bo to give closure I am done when he goes. I want to see him and Fancy Face, Steve and Sweetness bring us back to times when Days was good. It is becoming more like NCIS related stories…… Signed, A Very Disappointed Longtime Days Fan

I have been watching this show since I was a young girl. I am fifty and that is a while!!
My mother is also a huge fan. The number one character we both have loved is
Peter Reckell as Bo Brady. I dropped being a faithful viewwer of the soap every day, once Peter Reckell left as Bo .
Now that he has come back to episodes we watch faithfully. I really want him to
stay as the character of Bo. I cannot believe I am hearing he will be killed off or not
stay for several more years. I think he is a great character and Peter Reckell does
an amazing job. If Peter does not stay as the character of Bo, we will stop watching.
I know it may not mean alot to you all, but seriously he really adds to the show and
is the one character that just seems right to keep. Please Peter stay for longer than
just a few months!!!!!!! We are real fans of your playing the part of Bo Brady and
hope you and these new writers see how valuable you are. Please writers and producers do what you can to keep Peter in the part of Bo for a good long while.

First, Congratulations on 50 years. I am happy to see Bo (Peter Reckell) and Patch (Stephen Nichols) back (both still look GREAT) and Bo’s scenes with Hope have been great. They still have chemistry. Can remember when they first got together. I have not watched the show since the young took over most the storylines. Have enough with real life teenagers, young adults without having to watch their behavior on tv. In fact, if I could fast forward their scenes, I would. Signed: a short-term fan.

Do the writers of the show read any of this?

Best thing that has happened on Days in ages. Bo is back, he and Hope should
reunite. These are the couples that have made Days successful over the years.
This show needs another stable couple like Tom and Alice , Bo and Hope fill
the bill.

please quit killing off the main characters, i have watched this show since 1988, leave bo brady on the show and stop messing with them , come on days get it together i am about ready to quit watching. the storylines are so messed up , with the way your writers are writing it, quit messing with the characters we all like so much .

I think the part of Bo should be recast I just started back watching it the day he returned and I’m like the others I want be watching it anymore they have recast the role of Bo Brady before they can do it again their ratings are going to go down get a new HEAD WRITER

Please do not kill off Bo or make him disappear again Bo and Hope are like Tom and Alice Bo needs to stay

I have watched DOOL for years…I have loved Bo on the show the whole time. I hope they do not let him leave because i will not watch it anymore !! There are great actors on there but there is only ”ONE” Bo !!

You people are nuts if you get rid of Bo. Unless it’s coming from Peter I will not watch it anymore. I started watching DOOL IN 1965, NEVER MISSED A DAY. Losing Bo is like losing a member of my family . He is an important character on Days. You will never be able to replace him. He has that magic about him. I can tell when Hope made love to Aiden it was not the same when she kisses Bo ( that’s magic)

Bo and Hope are the best super couple Days has ever had and the reason I have watched Days over the years. After all they have been thru, they deserve a happy ending together. Please let Bo stay on…as Peter Reckell. He is our hero.

I haven’t watched days in years.but, since Bo been back I haven’t miss a show. If u take him off I will stop watching it again. Why did you even bring him back.

I can’t believe you would bring him back just to kill him off. If Peter does not want to keep playing Bo then just recast him!!!!!!! I love Peter but we or the show should not suffer because he does want to play Bo anymore. The show needs Bo back. I do not see any chemistry with Hope and Rafe together!!! they are great friends and should stay that way. I love Rafe with Kate or maybe put him with Jennifer but no chemistry with him and Hope!! If it is Days that wants Peter gone then you should not have brought him back to begin with!!! Let Peter keep his job and his role as Bo!!!!! Give Bo and Hope a happy ending that they deserve. I am sure Kayla can find a cure for him just like they do for everyone else!!!!

Please don’t take bo off he just came back to hope

Iv’e BEEN WATCHING DOOL AND BO HAS A BRAIN TUMOR IS HE GOING TO DIE OR ARE THEY GOING TO FIND A CURE FOR HIM, BO AND HOPE NEED TO RECONCILE AND BE PARTNERS AGAIN AS POLICE OFFICERS PLEASE LET THE FANS KNOW WHAT’S GOING ON WITH BO

Bo needs to stay and work as a police officer or private investigator and take Stefano and Andre down and live his life with Hope happily

I think Day’s better work on Peter’s contact to make him stay. He And Hope really are the show. I’ve been watching Day’s for over 42 years. Their love story is so beautiful . Fans enjoy their story line very much. If Peter cannot stay then re cast him. Don’t kill off his character. Hope can’t go to Rafe….that was her niece’s husband. How sick are these writers!!!!!! I will no longer be watching Day’s if you kill off his character. This. Is business….swallow the bullet and give Peter a great. Contract!!! I’m sure the ratings will go straight up!!!!!!!!!! Don’t be stupid !,,,,!,,,,,,,

Why would you bring Bo back to Die?? Could have brought someone else in to play the part. This is messed
up!!! I will not watch it anymore!! You really have messed up for the fans!!

I too agree with the oh so many dool fans. The soap will not be the same without Bo.
It would be so much better to have recast the character. Yes, it would take a little time to get used to someone else as Bo but we would eventually accept it and enjoy the wonderful dool we all have loved and watched for so many years. As I remember, Dallas Bobby Euwing was brought back at the time of Victoria’s dream. Can’t you do the same with a diffferent actor cast as Bo? Please give this serious consideration!!
The show has lost my interest as it has hundreds of other fans.

With Bo gone, perhaps Hope should leave town as well…

I wish the writers would bring Bo back to the show permantely. Peter and Kristin are so great together and what a love story these two have provided us viewers.. The how to me has been very dull without Bo and Hope. Please writers bring Peter back.

I’m not gonna watch days since they took him killed him off hope is probably gonna be pregnant again and story goes one and every time she gets involve no will be back I think it really wrong us fans waited so long to have him back and they take him off that’s just not right

please please please bring bo brady back to days of our lives cuz all worlds earth peoples wanting bo back brady cuz bo and hope best actor best loves and care his family and i thinking bo will backing days of our lives in 2016

merry christmas to bo brady

Matthew Ashford and Melissa Reeves Talk Return to DAYS for Doug’s Funeral, Susan Seaforth Hayes, and Their Enduring Friendship

Last week, Days of our Lives celebrated the taping of their 15,000th episode which is tentatively scheduled to air on December 3rd. The story will feature emotional and heart-tugging scenes of Doug Williams funeral and honor his portrayer, the beloved Bill Hayes, who passed away on January 12th at the age of 98.

While the actors, producers, and crew took a lunch time break to pose for some pictures and speak with the press, they knew they would have to get back to taping the funeral, which was going to make it a tough day, but also cathartic for all who loved Bill Hayes.

Several returns have thus far been announced including; Melissa Reeves reprising her signature role of Jennifer Horton (a part she first played in 1985), and Matthew Ashford as Jack Deveraux. Reeves had last appeared on the show back in 2021, and she was replaced by Emmy-winner Cady McClain in her absence when Jennifer was in storylines. In real-life, Melissa had moved full-time to Tennessee along with her husband, Scott Reeves (ex-DAYS, GH, Y&R). Now, and as previously reported, Reeves will first appear back on DAYS for the Thanksgiving episodes with the Hortons.

Michael Fairman TV caught up with Matt and Melissa during the 15,000th episode celebration to get their take on: being back for these special episodes, how it has been working with and watching Susan Seaforth Hayes portray Julie’s grief over losing Doug, and how they have supported each other through the years. Check out what they shared below.

Melissa, you are back on the set of Days of our Lives for this very emotional and special moment in the series history. How does it feel?

MELISSA: Oh, my goodness. I am honored. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else but to be here for Bill. He was like my real-life dance partner. He taught me how to ballroom dance. And to be here for Susan, of course, who’s just been our sweet hero this whole week. We’re just following her lead. She’s just been this incredibly strong example for us in the midst of this trial and season of her life. She is like just lifting us all up with her. It’s been incredible.

I was at Bill Hayes memorial service which was truly incredible and I know at the time you were in Tennessee. It was moving and celebratory of his life, all at the same time.

MELISSA: That’s all I have heard. I have to watch it on You Tube. They said it was just a real celebration of his life and I love that.

This must be difficult for Susan Seaforth Hayes depicting the death of Doug, when she is still grieving the loss of her beloved husband. (Susan pictured above with the returning Stephen Schnetzer who plays her on-screen brother, Steve Olson).

MELISSA: I’m sure Susan has those moments at home by herself, but she’s so good at being a leader and leading all of us. We’re following her, you know, and she’s like, “This is how I want to feel today.” And we’re just going along with her, you know? It’s so sweet.

Photo: JPI

How is it to see Matt Ashford again live and in-person?

MELISSA: You know, Matt and I can go years without talking, or seeing each other, and then the minute we see each other we’re chatting away.

MATT: Melissa was out on set doing a scene yesterday on the phone talking to a stage manager; as she was telling some really tough news on the phone. I’m like crying in the background, literally, I’m off-stage crying.

MELISSA: And then we get like back into normal life, and we’re like, okay, “What’s happening? What’s happening with this … or what’s happening with that?”

I had read, Melissa, that you were in touch with Matt about if there night be a possibility for you to reprise your role as Jennifer for these special episodes?

MELISSA: Yes. Well, Matt was like, “Hey! Would you want to come back? “And I was like, “Matt, you know, I would always come back. ”

MATT:  Every time I come here to Days of our Lives, they ask, “Where’s Missy? How’s Missy?” Everybody backstage says, “I miss her.” All of the crew is asking about her and saying, “It would be nice to see Missy. Nothing wrong with you Matt, but …”  They said, “Where is she?” I said, “She wants to come!”

Photo: JPI

There are some beautiful photos of Missy and Bill and Susan thorough the years that I found. It just reminded me of just the deep and entrenched history we all have had with the show, personally and professionally.

MATT: Missy is roughly the age where Francis Reid (ex-Alice Horton) was when she started the show, which is just crazy.

Photo: JPI

I’ve always said Missy was going to be the next generation Alice. Do you feel that Jennifer is the heir apparent matriarch of the Horton family?

MELISSA: Yes. I mean, this has been greatest blessing of my life, and that would be great. I told Ken Corday (executive producer, Days of our Lives) when I was 17 that this show would be my life. Ken always told me, “This is your home,” and I’ve always felt like that.

How have gotten through the scenes watching Susan Seaforth Hayes as Julie go through the loss of Doug?

MATT: Susan is bringing her best performance life for her and Bill. I mean, she’s a showbiz baby. She always has been one hundred percent, and she’s doing it for him, and this is who they’ve always been. So, you’re seeing this amazing performance colored by her life. She has her private life as Susan, but she has enough plugged into Julie that she’s done amazing work. The director, producers and writers are giving her room to live in these moments and it’s quite wonderful.

Photo: JPI

Have you already broken down in tears during the taping?

MELISSA: Yesterday, but today’s taping of the actual funeral I think they want us to try and be just more celebratory.

MATT: I mean, it is a beautiful long life for Bill Hayes and his character of Doug Williams, and so it will be about that. Then, you get a bunch of us together in the church pews, and there’s going to be hijinks.

MELISSA: We all have been through the waves of grief. You have that awful cry and then all of a sudden you feel okay.  There are those family situations we are portraying where you’re like, “What do we do? What do we do now? You know, no one knows what to do. But, it’s so sweet. I’m looking forward to seeing how the scenes all turn out.

So, are you glad that Matt and Melissa are back for the 15K episode and Doug’s funeral? From what we can tell, it’s going to be quite an emotional journey for Days of our Lives fans, and especially the performance of Susan Seaforth Hayes,

Ron Carlivati Talks on Decision to Make Days of our Lives 15000th Episode About Doug’s Funeral, and Previews Chances for WGA Award

This week, Days of our Lives celebrated the taping of their 15,000th episode. In of it itself, that is an incredible accomplishment for the long-running soap opera currently streaming on Peacock.

However, this on set gathering was a bit different. Though the show is celebrating their achievement, they are also in the middle of taping scenes surrounding the death and the funeral of Doug Williams, played by the late Bill Hayes, who passed away on January 12th of this year at the age of 98.

As previously revealed many longtime favorites are back to honor Bill and the character of Doug including: Gloria Loring (Liz), Melissa Reeves (Jennifer), Matthew Ashford (Jack), Maree Cheatham (Marie), Victoria Konefal (Ciara) and Stephen Schnetzer (Steve) to name but a few.

Michael Fairman TV was in attendance and spoke with Days of our Lives head writer, Ron Carlivati to gain some insight into how the 15,000 episode was crafted and the decision to honor the character of Doug Williams and Bill Hayes as its epicenter. In addition, Ron weighed-in on this Sunday’s April 14th WGA (Writers Guild of America) Awards, where he and his writing team are facing off with General Hospital for the daytime drama prize. Here’s what Ron shared below.

Was this your idea to make the 15,000th episode centered around Doug’s funeral and passing?

RON: It was. When you’re looking at it, and laying out the calendar for the whole year and you see 15,000 is coming up, we’re like, “What are we going to do?” And then, we got the news that Bill had passed away and something kind of clicked. I was like, “We should honor Doug on that show.” So then, we started to kind of build around that … when does he pass away? How does he pass away? Who could come back? You know, it’s a lot.  I’m very pleased with the returns that we got as there’s so much that you could do. We wanted everybody we could get. So, we put together a wish list and Janet Drucker (co-executive producer, Days of our Lives) made it happen.

Photo: JPI

You have Melissa Reeves back as Jennifer, when the role was last played by Cady McClain. What has it meant to have Missy back for these shows?

RON: It was so nice to see Missy Reeves. I think Cady has done such a good job, but on the 15,000th episode to see Missy as Jennifer, it’s a big deal. So having her was great, and overall, the milestone was a big undertaking, because you want to live up to it. You want the 15,000th episode to be good. Now, it has a lot of real emotion that you’re playing. because for the cast and the crew they’re honoring Bill Hayes just as much as we’re honoring Doug Williams.

Photo: JPI

Was it hard for you and the team to write this episode?

RON: Yes. I’ll tell you why it was hard to write.  When I wrote, for example, Asa’s (Phillip Carey) death on One Life to Live or Victor’s (John Aniston) on DAYS, Asa is a different type of character. Like, you could have characters going, “Oh! I’m glad he is dead.” You could have different points of view, but with Doug, you’re not having that. Every person loves this man. No one had a bad relationship with him. So, you’re challenge as a writer is how do you make it that not everybody’s saying the same thing and doing the same thing. And so, we tried to find ways to make the episode about all the familial relationships and yet, how do you make it about Doug and yet broaden the scope.

Photo: JPI

I had spoken to Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie), a week after Bill’s memorial, for an interview. She said that she felt very fortunate that you did include her on discussions of how you would tackle Doug’s passing. How did that conversation go?

RON: First, I attended Bill’s funeral, which was incredible. I said to so many people it was an emotional service, but it was hard to be sad at this. The guy had an incredible life and it was an incredible celebration. And so, you’re sitting there watching this knowing that you now have to write something similar. And how do you write something that lives up to what you just witnessed? I wanted to talk to Susan to get her thoughts about, you know, how much do you want this to be about keeping Bill separate from Doug. How comfortable are you sharing your grief. She was incredible to talk to. It was a great chat.

You’re in the middle of taping these major scenes for the 15,000 episode to air in December. How do you think it’s going? Have you seen any of the scenes?

RON:  I haven’t seeing anything. I mean, we were still making changes to the script up till this morning!

Photo: JPI

The Writers Guild Awards are this Sunday, April 14th and once again this year there are two daytime drama nominees, General Hospital and Days of our Lives. How are you feeling about your chances this year?

RON: It is often just GH and us in the category. I’ve won three years in a row, so I’m kind of feeling like it’s their turn.

Photo: JPI

What episodes did you submit for contention? If I recall, they had to do with Victor’s memorial.

RON: The episodes we submitted were centered around Victor’s funeral. I think one has story with Vivian (Louise Sorel). We had some fun stuff, we had some emotional stuff at Victor’s death, and I am pretty sure that our submission was three episodes right around that time.

Did you make the decision to go with those episodes because there was a mix of humor and drama?

RON: I like to have some humor, but it was also the funeral, then there’s Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) giving birth, and then Vivian’s crashing the reading of the will. So, we had a lot of fun and it’s hard sometimes to pick three that tell a story, as opposed to submitting for the Daytime Emmys, where the writing team only submits two shows. So, we shall see how it goes on Sunday.
