RATINGS: B&B Has Great Week With Raya's Wedding, GH Struggles, DAYS Poised To Spike With Big Returns!

The ratings are out for the week of August 10th through the 14th, and it was an excellent week for The Bold and the Beautiful which saw a gain of +316,000 total viewers.

During the week in question, it was Rick (Jacob Young) and Maya’s (Karla Mosley) wedding that played out with the confrontational drama between the Avant family, and Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) trying to remember what happened the night Aly (Ashlyn Pearce) was killed and if she was indeed a murderer!  B&B came in with + 3.815,000 for the week.  The CBS soap also the only daytime drama to add viewers in the key 18-49, and 25-54 women demos.  B&B also added the most viewers in the 18-34 women demo of any soap.

Elsewhere, General Hospital is continuing to struggle.  The ABC series is once again hitting a new low in the key 18-49 women demo, as well as tied in that category for all-time low rating share.  GH actually added +11,000 in total viewers for the week, but their overall total viewer performance tallied in at 2,555,000  and that is down -284,000 from the same time last year.

And this now opens the door for NBC’s Days of our Lives, who this week just debuted the new head writing regime of Josh Griffith and Dena Higley’s work, as all the returns will now be starting to file in beginning with Patch played by Stephen Nichols next week on-air.

DAYS is just under 100,000 plus total viewers away from the number three spot that has been held for so long by GH.  Will DAYS overtake GH in the coming weeks?  Can GH stave them off and keep their number 3 position safe?  It’s not looking promising for the folks in Port Charles as of this week’s ratings report.

Courtesy/NBC

The Young and the Restless continues to hold very strong. The number one soap gained +82,000 total viewers for the ratings week and is almost at +400,000 since the same time last year.  Y&R continues to also be in first place in every key demo. Check out the entire ratings picture courtesy of SON here.

So, was The Bold and the Beautiful the show to watch last week? Can GH gain some momentum? Will DAYS finally be in the number three spot by the end of August when the ratings come out?  Share your thoughts on what is working and what is ailing on your favorite soap opera in the comment section below!

I believe the new GH writers, the dual that near sank Y&R with it lowest ratings ( and that was not an easy feat) to bring it that low but they managed to it lol
and both head writers were fired and will now be writing for GH and I see nothing hopeful that’s going to come from the Queens of Snooze..

DOOL has cleaned house and put a great effort into saving it.
It looks very promising..
(too bad Jean and Shelly were not dragged into DROOL, smart people at NBC … lol

Long Live ALL the Soaps!! they are loved!!

su0000,

With you being a fan of Chuck Pratt’s story telling and GH and Y&R essentially swapping head writers, I knew it wouldn’t take long before you became more of a Y&R fan and less of a GH one. Y&R is still some good, some bad for me.

hi Mr. X ..
I have always been a Y&R fan just not 2014 happy fan lol
2014 put me near comatose lol
Pratt has awakened me..

GH, I have always loved, I really enjoyed RC writing, lued it!
I fear for GH under the Snooze Queens..
after all they were responsible for the Y&R big snooze of 2014 ..

I pray the snooze queens did not drag Cassie’s tombstone to GH with them to continue on with the long long loooong boring speeches that seemed to be a 10000 a year .
And god forbid if they hauled in the infamous unfinished Music Box story!

i’m hoping GH can get its act together, and they need to do it quickly, i sure hope this new writing team knows that they don’t have the luxury of time, just get with it and reveal jason is alive, and in the process, give us back the nickolas and elizabeth that we love, i hate this dark slimy prince and hate that they’ve made liz so desperate for a man. We also need answers to where is Robin? Decide once and for all if you want Genie Francis back full time and stop with these short unsatisfieing visits. Don’t prolong the silas murder whodunit, cause we already hate the storyline to begin with. I can’t wait for Anna to return, hope she will have answers to the whereabouts of her daughter. Is anyone going to seek legal justice for little jake? the kid was kidnap for five years yet everyone seems to be ok with that. i bet the whole freaking town is going to make a bigger deal that liz knew jake was jason i.e Carly, Sam, ect.., yet everyone seems to be ok with Helena having kidnapped little jake, does that make sense? I think Jerry Jax really succeeded in contaminating PC water because the fact that big jake is more interested in saving ELQ then going after Helena to find out who he is mind boggling, and i could go on an on, but i’m to tired, i just hope these two new GH headwriters can clean up and answer a lot of the mess RC left behind.

I don’t watch B&B but think maybe the writers from GH should to see why it is working.
Sadly, I have taken GH off my DVR recording and have not even peeked at it in about 2 weeks. I am not giving up and harbor some degree of hope that they can get it together. As is stands now, I cannot abide the following: the sight of Denise’s horrible wig and the sound of her confused and badly employed accent, Nina’s lip twitching from all the scene chewing, Roger’s continued bad and muggy acting, Kiki’s histrionics, Morgan Fairchild’s stale and pointless approach to playing a role and Morgan’s mediocrity. GH is horrible-that is why the ratings suck. I am almost convinced ABC is running it to the ground on purpose so folks will not be in a state of collective outrage when it is canceled. I do believe that tactic was employed with AMC before it was canceled.

I’m with you, Harry! It’s been over two weeks and counting for me as far as tuning out GH. Just reading the daily synopses/spoilers has been a thankless and unpleasant task, given the idiotic goings-on. As long as the showrunners insist upon utilizing their endless parade of ignominious characters like Nina, Franco, Hayten, Denise, Val-Chops, Sappy, Mikey, Morgan, Grossalie, Jordan, Ric, Alexis, Molly, TJ and so on and so forth, I’m outta there!!!! Even the sublime Liesl, Jake, and NuPaul cannot keep me viewing in whilst these terrible Ron C storylines play out…..perhaps when Anna returns, and other old favorites are brought back, it will be a different story, but until then, no dice. After the Clusterfluke and God knows how many other ridiculous plots, I’m simply beyond tired of having my intelligence insulted day in and day out. Furthermore, the Michael Easton debacle was truly the last straw for me. Although I am hanging on to a shred of hope that the new team will rescue this show from the humongous damage which was inflicted by the last head writer, I just cannot watch again until that happens. It’s nothing more than a huge waste of time and effort that can be better applied elsewhere for at least the short term. As you so succinctly put it, GH is indeed horrible!!!

Harry, Same for me. I haven’t watched in close to three weeks. It isn’t just the writing, it’s who the writing is for and what they are doing with it. GH is unrecognizable. I don’t want to watch a show that has Franco’s charges and trial at the center and focuses on other characters like Nina, Ava, Kiki, Dr.O.

And you’re right, it isn’t just the writing. As you say, Howarth’s acting choices and execution are his and have been from day one. He has done his best to make Franco unwatchable regardless of the writing. Denise/Ava’s accent and delivery is Maura’s. Nina is nuts, Michelle Stafford makes the choices on how to portray “nuts.”

And we’re not alone. If you look at the numbers, it seemed that the demos had leveled off in July. For the four weeks of July, the demo numbers averaged about 455,000.

Then the first two weeks of August and crash, down to 400K and then below to 389K.What changed? The first two full weeks after TG’s exit and the start of the murder mystery.

Bad writing with GH vets loses viewers. Bad writing for a center stage murder mystery featuring Franco, Nina, Ava, Kiki, Dr.O and appearances from the victim Silas, gets you much worse. It just is the case.

Shift the show to really focus on Franco, Nina, Ava, Kiki etc and the bottom falls out. The show is bad, but also unrecognizable to people. And it makes sense.

This is General Hospital. It is a daytime serial that has lasted for 52 years and has a long time fan base who is tied to that history. The less GH that is recognizable to them, the less they watch. I haven’t watched in three weeks.

Look at Michael Fairman’s headline. “Days poised to spike with big returns.” Returns. Vets. The theory, and a smart one, recognized by anyone who has ever had any knowledge of soaps, is that they thrive because of history and legacy and because they are familiar and comfortable to those who have made the investment.

People want to see their favorites, characters and actors that they have grown to love. If TPTB at GH think it was just RC’s writing and not all the new characters that have taken over the show that GH fans are just not interested in, they are not going to turn this show around.

O come on Harry a real soap fan stays in the trenches and watches everyday for the greater good. As a vet of soap watching I have endured over forty plus years of watching various soaps some of the most horrendous stuff imaginable and nothing on GH right now comes close to the bottom of the soap barrel.

I watched MS for years on Y&R as Phyllis and I tell you as Nina the girl is on Valium– my goodness on Y&R it was like the character was on speed, saying almost every line three times in a row, are you kidding me, are you kidding me, are you kidding me.

If a bad wig, a blotched accent and some over acting was enough to enough to call it quits I would had stopped watching soaps sometime in the seventies-LOL

Well I guess the battle will need to be won by us few brave souls willing to watch the good, the bad and the ugly. I suppose if I was on the Titanic I would have been one of those people who would be playing shuffleboard until the deck flipped over.

I agree with you Harry: Succinctly put, “GH is horrible, and that’s why the ratings suck.” And the reasons you list are right on the money.

GH struggling because the show continued to be awful..I can’t find not one character on the show now that I even care about, I don’t care about the murder victim, don’t care about the suspects to want to know who did it, so over Sonny I don’t even watch him or the mob anymore, the new characters bored me senseless, so not investment and that’s all we have to look forward too. Bring back Robert Scorpio, and give me Anna Devane & Robert Scorpio doing anything(solving cases anything..Give me something to get excited over with GH. I’m hanging on by a thread.

This is exactly how I felt when I gave up on GH about 20 years ago. I only started watching again when it was announced that OLTL and AMC were cancelled :(. I didn’t like or care about one single character. I’m pretty close to that now. I hope new writers can save the show.

“I can’t find one character. . .one character I . . . care about.”
You are correct. And if TPTB do not care about the viewers, the viewers don’t care about the show. It’s that simple; we’ve been trying to say that for months/years, and our protestations fell on deaf ears or were simply ignored. TG care take a lot of credit for that also.

note’

Writers Shelly Altman and Jean Passanante.
The Queens of Snooze will officially take over the writing reins beginning Monday, August 10..
Their stuff will air mid Oct..
Until then, mid Oct, enjoy RC’s writing, it is once again vintage RC .. 🙂 good stuff!

You call what’s currently on the air good stuff? You too must of been affected by the contaminated water by jerry jax.

But Suooo, if Ron’s writing is good stuff, then why are people tuning out in droves?

Heeey Harry..
The Fluke story went on too long.
when Tony was out for 6 months the Fluke story should have been put aside (but on return, it did give Tony his 8th emmy..
It was the Luke exit that put other big stories on hold..therefore tune-outs,
and the Luke exit was not all in RC’s hands..and too long and a mistake to run it that long. but hey- it was Tony yah know..
now that it is over RC these past weeks has brought back his A-Game, GH has been very good since Luke’s exit.
Love the Morgan turn, good unexpected stuff from Morgan
Jordan and TJ, Sonny going family,
Franco Nina and the murder, luved the court/trial scenes with Scotty and Ric.
Like the Jeromes are back Ava & Julian.
Love Franco in court and the mess he is in with Scotty helping Franco..
Love that RC brought Scotty upfront and gave him a story..
ohh yah luv Nina’s dead stare wheelchair buddy lol ! great scenes!
Like how Nina got her sanity smarts back and didn’t sign the papers, poor mommy dearest, now what?
these past RC weeks have rocked! vintage RC was back!
And the upcoming Sonny & Carly wedding will assuredly hold a RC surprise.

It takes awhile to get tuned out fans back and RC is once again going to do that.
The new writers will not be able to do that, no way could they do what RC can.

I have peeked in a couple of times after TG’s exit and found nothing to keep me coming back.

GH needs to get back to the real GH. Fire Ava, Nina, Donna Mills, etc. These ladies may have worked on other shows, but this is General Hospital and they do not belong here. The show is unrecognizable. I believe Days will pass up GH in the ratings, because it is a better show to watch. Days is still focused on its core families. Something GH abandoned long ago. I will watch when Genie Francis returns in September, but I can’t watch what we are seeing now.

this is the problem of not developing new writers. they keep going to the same people who recycle the same stories and at some point just becomes a hamster wheel. I’m glad there are new head writers coming in, but I am not optimistic because of what I have been reading about their stint at Y&R. Let’s hope they learned from those mistakes. As others have said, please get rid of the new characters who ARE NOT connected to either a core family or the hospital. Silas is a good start, but I think Ava, Nina, Kiki and Madeline all need to go as well. Replace Olbrecht as the head of GH and give that job to Monica. Olbrecht can stay and be a thorn in people’s side. Add another doctor or two. Maybe Steven Lars or Sarah Weber comes back. Maybe Serena Baldwin is a doctor or nurse. Yes, wrap up the Jason/Jake story line, but make him a Quartermaine, dealing with business matters. Make him go head-to-head with Sonny for control of Port Charles. Bring back the old Liz who we care about. I’m fine with Nik being a baddie. Bring back Laura and give her a real story. I mean, many of us on these boards always repeat the same things over and over, in hopes that someone is listening. The fact that there seems to be a fair amount of unanimity to our suggestions, tells me we’re all on to something. Please listen to the viewers and give us what we want or there will be no reason to turn in.

Days has been slowly improving, and will soon be the no.3 soap and if all goes well with the returns and writing, i can see Days dethrone B&B at second place…hopefully, Days will keep its vets equally front and center with its aged children…the teens can help refreshen things but not carry the show on their own…and less Danial too!!! As for GH, the show lacks a hero and a heroine—it badly needs Robert and Anna, more Mac, Felicia and Monica, and like Days it might eventually need to age their children—as 15 year olds Emma, Spenser, Cameron and Josslyn!!! Make Jason Dr. Jason NOW to bring some conflict at the hospital between him and Patrick that involves Liz and Sam!!! Dont waste stories on recuring characters like Rosalee!!! (her being Brads wife only stalls the marriage of two other recuring characters Brad and Lucas and doesnt really involve others—a wasted filler moment)…they are rarely shown and doesnt get us involved with their lives to give a damn about them Recuring characters should support contract players storylines…but do we really need them??? Time to revamp and clean house GH…drop Rosalee, Nina, Franco, Valerie, Ric, Madelyn, and Sabrina…Monica replaces Lisel as Chief-Of-Staff…Lisel works for a rival hospital and battles Monica for the best doctors ect.,…bring in a young group of new doctors and nurses related somehow to the current staff…have Mac become a lawer…have Lucy, Felicia and Laura go into business together like planned a few years ago and add some office intrigue…more with the Q’s Tracy, Paul and Dillion…and CHARACTER DRIVEN STORYLINES…CLEAN UP THAT MESS GH!!!!

I meant current vets, not staff…also id drop the Jeromes—they became tired characters…less mob too…some mob ok but not too much…if the new writers can make Julian, Sonny and Ava more interesting—like Y&Rs Jack verses Victor…then maybe i wont mind if they stay…jmho’s!!!

Jason barely knows he’s Jason now you want him to be a doctor? Like wake up and boom he’s a doctor?? Ok, maybe RC isn’t the only one whose off tract! Be realistic Jason will never be a doctor ..

I didnt mean that Jake wakes up realizing he is Jason and five minutes later he is performing surgery at GH…my comment might imply that but it wasnt what i meant…i want him to finally remember he is Jason and how he once planned to become a doctor and he pursues that dream…im sick of the mob stuff which isnt well done in the first place and hoping Jason will eventually become a doc and not Sonnys sidekick!!!

I wholeheartedly agree that the vets carry the show! The last two weeks have been great! So far so good with the new material from Dena Higley and Josh Griffin. Hope Dena is not on leave too long. Wish her well during this time.

Maybe it is time to stop idolizing criminals. It is RIDICULOUS that Michael would give up a little sister that he loves to the man that killed his father and who has no qualms about shooting anyone, but yes he is a loving father (POOH). I also hate what they have turned Liz into. And does anyone believe Lucky would return the son he mourned and just take off again. Does anyone who is writing really get human emotion. And Liesel as head of the hospital (though I love the comedic part she brings to the show). How about some real LOVE IN THE AFTERNOON.

Totally agree, Cary. I cannot stand how they glorify Sonny Corinthos and how Carly stands by his side (her hypocrisy regarding Franco and how she betrayed him makes me want to scream) and how anyone could put an innocent child in his hands.
Enough with the guns and knives and all the mob wars!!!
GH needs to spotlight romances before it’s too late if it isn’t already.
Wish the new writers had a better track record of improving ratings!!!

Agree with you on GH–get rid of Sonny, the mob, etc. Focus on the Quartermaines, Webbers, Cassadines, Spencers, other classic characters, and the hospital.

Say it again, Charday!

B&B deserved the ratings spike. The wedding scenes were soapy goodness!

I like the Ally storyline (sorry she’s gone) despite the fact that Steffy & Liam (UGH!) are central to the story.

There’s many reasons why “GH” is circling the drain; the last of the inept stories that are unfolding aren’t drawing in viewers and quite a lot of viewers have called it in after Michael Easton was let go from the series and his character “Silas Clay” killed off unnecessarily without any sort of character evolution. To be fair, this isn’t the first time new characters were created only to eventually be cast aside as if they were nothing. That happened to Jimmy Deshler last year when his character of “Rafe Kovich Jr.” was also killed off in a storyline that felt more like a re-write of the “Trey Mitchell” death. New characters always have potential to add to a series and it’s the responsibility of the actors and writers to get the best out of these new characters. Neither Mr. Easton nor Mr. Deshler failed when it came to what they (as actors) brought to their respective characters; the ‘failure’ of these characters rests on the shoulders of the writers.

As an aside, when you have actors that connect with the audience then you’re going to have folks tuning in to watch them grow; that goes for the established and newcomers alike. Killing off Ian Buchanan’s character of “Duke Lavery” did them no favors this past spring, nor has the aforementioned killing off of Michael Easton’s “Silas Clay” character. Forcing certain love interests that most viewers don’t want to see together also doesn’t help, especially when it’s evident that there’s no chemistry there in a few cases.

I don’t wish to see “GH” cancelled; it’s the last soap on ABC. I just hope that the new writers can turn this around without the excessive retconning the last writers built the show around.

I’m really excited for DOOL’s 50th anniversary. I’m a bit concerned how the writing for all the returning vets, newbie teens, etc. is going to come together. I’m hopeful.

Why do us fans always have the BEST ideas and ANY of these writers suck! Other than current binding contracts or disinterest,

Bring back: Robert, Anna, Robin, Ned and Noah.

Use: Bobbi, Monica, Mac, Felicia, Tracy, Paul, Scotty, Patrick, Sam, JASON, Liz, Nick, Hayden Lucas and Lucy

Cut: Franco, Ava, Julian, Nina, Madeline, Rosalie, Lisel, Brad, Sabrina, TJ, Jordan.

Recast: Michael and Morgan

Send Sonny and Carly on a LONG Honeymoon!

Come on now. Tristan Rogers is under contract at Y&R. Wally Kurth is under contract at Days. And for the 7 millionth time, KM doesn’t want to act full time on GH. I wish the show would just recast her so all the Robin fanatics could then complain about the recast.

Well I heard Tristan was recurring now on Y&R and if Kim wants to stay away, recast. Wally, I know he is on Days. Why did they let him go? Did he want to leave? Ned is such an important character with Tracy and Paul in the Q mansion. Recast!

Today when I was watching Days I was stuck by the fact that I was seeing something I haven’t seen in a while, love. Whether it be as something as simple as Hope wiping blood off Aden’s face, or Doc and John taking a walk in the park or Victor hold Caroline’s hand–it was there and sincere. Now,granted those moments might not be as exciting as bomb going off in Horton’s square, but honestly it was very refreshing to see. I have no doubt if Days continues on that route it will soon pass GH in the ratings.

You mentioned every scene that struck me as so refreshing today as I watched Days this afternooon. Funny how the most simple (sometimes read: mundane), actions can be so quietly moving. I am very hopeful for DOOL 50th anniversary year.

And wishing for GH to finally get back on track with Jean P. and Shelly A……

YEP! Love!

Fans want love. They delivered. Very refreshing.

GO DAYS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used to watch days but since Peter reckell left I haven’t even peeked. Sorry as a no znd hope fun since I was a teen , his exit was disrespectful to him and fans! I find myself watching the playlists that many hzve put together of classic days! That was great writing and character driven! I miss the vets and they could have been given great storylines in the way that Dr. znd Mrs H were! As a teacher I would dvr or watch in the summer but since that horrific story with Carly znd hope in prison I felt like it was days in the twilight zone! I will continue to watch the classics I’m sorry I’ve lost faith in the daytime of today, it’s lost the fun, passion, znd romance thst kept do many of us watching !

You seem to be out of the loop, Tammy.

Bo is returning next month. Steve will arrive next week! Look at the comments where viewers are saying they recognize a familiarity to DAYS gone by.

The new writers material aired midweek and their three episodes have already been a huge improvement of what had been written!

Steve will be looking for Bo and he will be reunited with his family. I don’t know how long Peter Reckell will stay, but Bo’s absence will be explained and his stay will be in character. If and when Bo leaves again, the present writers will not screw Bo, Bo and Hope and DAYS’ fans over.

The old writers are gone!!!

I agree about Days; I loved the tender moments between Caroline and Victor!
G.H. : I hate the mob activity on the show. I stopped watching G.H. for years when Sonny was allowed to wreak havoc on A.J. and the Q Family. The writers gave the mob all of the power and played the Qs as weak and powerless. They’re still glorifying
the mob by having T.J. cling to Sonny instead of his mother; plus, favoring right over wrong. What person in his right mind would be happy living in a gangster’s house with danger all around? Also, they’re allowing Michael to go soft on Sonny by returning the baby and thinking about forgetting that he willfully killed A.J. (WAS NOT BIPOLAR) at that moment. I would tolerate Sonny; however, I would never be close to him again. Plus, it would be quite difficult for me to warm up to my mother when she favors the man who killed my father and knew about it. Thus , claiming that she loves me; I would probably be lukewarm to her. They would receive my forgiveness, but never my closeness!

BB’s pre-wedding fireworks were explosive! Maya’s father’s comments were inflammatory and current to how some people truly feel about the transgender an lesbian and gay issue. I believe that both sides show be truthfully verbalized ; however, Julius should have not attended the wedding feeling the way he does. Yet, his appearance was the fuel that ignited the smoldering fire.

Bold and the Beautiful ROCKS…excellent acting and drama…It’s what good daytime drama is all about.

Days Of Our Lives

Stephen Schnetzer Talks On His Return to Days of our Lives and Working with Susan Seaforth Hayes In Emotional Episodes

Who says you can’t go home again? In the case of Another World favorite, Stephen Schnetzer (ex-Cass Winthrop), he has proven that it is true, and you can go back to your soap roots and where it all started for you.

Last week on April 11th, Schnetzer, along with several other key returns were on set at Days of our Lives taping all-new episodes of the Peacock streaming soap opera, centering on the funeral of Doug Williams (the late Bill Hayes), and as part of the iconic soap opera’s 15,000th episode.

Stephen is reprising his first daytime role as Steve Olson, the brother of Julie Williams (Susan Seaforth Hayes). The last time Schnetzer appeared on a DAYS set was during his one and only run on the show from 1978 to 1980. Clearly, viewers will be in for some very emotional scenes when Steve returns to Salem to be there for his sister, Julie in her time of need. In real-life, Susan has been going through her own grief, having just lost Bill back on January 12th at the age of 98.

Michael Fairman TV caught up with Stephen during the 15K episode celebration ceremony, and during a break from taping the gut-wrenching funeral scenes, to get his thoughts on being part of these highly-anticipated moments that will air later this year in December. Here’s what he shared with us below.

What has this been like for you to work with Susan Seaforth Hayes after all of these years?

STEPHEN: She’s a dream and she’s so bright. We ran lines yesterday and we ended up just visiting for about 45 minutes and just catching up and telling tales about each other’s career. She even dropped off the autobiography that she and Bill did. And being back here at DAYS, every time I turn a corner, there’s another familiar face. When I was on the show 40 more years ago, a bunch of the guys, played softball on a team together. This is really a trip down memory lane as I knew it would be.

Taping Doug’s funeral must be a hard day for Susan. Are you checking in with her to help hold her up through this?

STEPHEN: I am and I’m checking in with Amy Shaughnessy (Susan’s assistant), and she’s holding her up more than anybody. We’re there for each other.

There will obviously be some major hankie-inducing moments when Steve comes back to Salem to console his sister.

STEPHEN: Oh, wait till you see it in December. It’s going to be great.

Were you surprised you got this call to come back to the show decades later?

STEPHEN: It was out of the blue! I was completely surprised. They should have called me decades ago! That’s what surprised me. When Another World went down, I thought I’d land somewhere else and it never happened. That was more of a surprise.

Cass is such an identifiable character for you. As well, you and Linda Dano (ex-Felicia Gallant) are so synonymous together as best friends Cass and Felicia from Another World. When fans heard you were reprising your role as Steve Olson on DAYS, they are now hoping there will be more of you on the show to come.

STEPHEN: Steven Olson is a real “Cassian “character. I cut my teeth on Steve Olson and that’s how Cass was introduced. He was kind of a roguish charmer. And then when the character stuck for Another World, they rehabilitated me, and turned me into one of the shows heroes. And that’s what would’ve happened if I stayed as Steve Olson probably. So, Steve is the ‘pre-Cass’, Cass.

As the story goes, you originally decided to leave Days of our Lives?

STEPHEN: I was never on contract. I was doing a day and a half a week and I got a Broadway play directed by Franco Zeffirelli starring Joan Plowright and Frank Finlay. I was able to it as I didn’t have to break a contract or anything. I cut loose and went back to New York for that.

How well did you get to know Bill Hayes during your first time around on DAYS?

STEPHEN: My first episode was with Bill and Susan, as her long lost brother coming into Salem. They were so good to me. They were so kind. I had been doing eight years of classical repertory theater, never been in front of a camera. I tell everybody, it took me longer than any other actor I’ve ever seen to get comfortable in front of a camera. And they were very supportive at that time in my career. Coming back to honor Bill now in 2024, and to be see Susan, I am just so happy to be here.

Looking forward to seeing the scenes between Stephen and Susan Seaforth Hayes come December and Doug’s funeral and surrounding episodes? Do you hope that DAYS might bring the character of Steve Olson back for a longer stay? Comment below.
