RATINGS: Days of our Lives & General Hospital Up In Key Demos!

Courtesy/NBC

Courtesy/NBC

The ratings were released for the week of August 4th-August 8th and two soaps; Days of our Lives and General Hospital posted gains in all three key women demographics, although while DAYS gained in total viewers, GH was the only soap among the network daytime dramas to show a minus in that column.

However, it was The Bold and the Beautiful that showed the most gains of any soap for the week with plus 67,000 total viewers. In the women’s 18-49 demo; GH gained +27,000 and DAYS gained +20,000 putting them in second and fourth place respectively in the category.

In the women’s 18-34 demo,  GH gained +16,000 while DAYS gained +12,000, and again both soaps remained in second and fourth in the category.  In the women’s 25-54  demo, GH gained +18,000 while DAYS gained +4,000. View the entire ratings picture via SON here.

As to some of the storylines for the ratings week, on DAYS: Sami’s (Alison Sweeney) revenge plans and the fallout from that, along with Eileen Davidson’s return storyline as Kristen DiMera, continued to bring in viewers.

And over at GH, it was the week that saw Kimberly McCullough return as Dr. Robin Scorpio Drake and Thaao Penghlis as Victor Cassadine, as we learned that Victor was behind having Patrick (Jason Thompson), Sabrina (Teresa Castillo) and Emma (Brooklyn Rae Silzer) run off the road that eventually claimed the life of baby Gabriel.  The fate of Jason Morgan and Patrick and Robin’s marriage were also hot topics.

Y&R had a shocker where Neil (Kristoff St.John) accidently electrocuted himself as Hilary (Mishael Morgan) and Devon (Bryton James) were about to expose to Neil their true feelings for each other!  And on B&B, it was the set up of the wedding week for Hope (Kim Matula) as she went to Paris, and Liam (Scott Clifton) was going to meet here there… and then you all know what happened this week!

Now it’s time for you to be our Soap Opera Programming Executive Armchair Quarterback! What is working on your favorite soaps?  What isn’t?  What storylines are holding your interest?  Which storylines are not?  What would you do to fix what you feel ails your soap, if anything?  Share your thoughts below!

All the shows are so good!!

I don’t care about the ratings..
they go up and down like a rollercoaster, always have and will.
Unless there is a million difference, no big deal ..
And the sponsors look for things in the rating outside of highest numbers etc..

I like my soap..
I do not care how many watch..
If I were the only viewer and enjoyed what I was watching that is all that would matter lol 🙂

Agree…soap ratings are always going up and down…now if they’d stay up and continue to rise that would be another story!!!

Y and R has become so fractured and unrelatable that I now PVR and start watching 20 minutes in so that I can fast forward through most if it. The loss of Billy Miller has rendered Amelia Heinke impotent to perform because she clearly has no chemistry, and appears no desire to build chemistry, with either the newest Billy or Ben. Not her fault. I’m sure the upheaval has been difficult.

The winters clan has lost its luster save for Cane and Devon. The writing is horrendous. The direction leaves Lily looking like a mess that cant act, but I know she can. I have seen it. Long passed now.

The fact that a girl, identical to Cassie didn’t spark a DNA test boggles, but it is a soap. It gets a bye.

Save for Kevin, the Baldwin clan is slumber time, why has Gloria been put to pasture? Estrogen clash?

This soap is kitschy and soapy, but has gotten me through 40 years of staying home dick from school, babies, divorce, remarriage, hitting 50 and more. But it seems to be over.

I wont be labour the MM situation. I don’t believe the sexual assault claims, don’t know anyone with a frontal cortex that does, but I will watch any show he ends up on because he is a powerhouse personality that could take the forefront if any one of them.

My 2cents. Keeping inflation in mind.

Staying why from school…lol

Glad i listen to my doc and posters who said dont give up this site…

Try DAYS!

I gave up on Days. I am down to the other final 3. I will narrow that down to wherever billy miller and Michael muhney land. Go from there.

Days is the best soap right now.

I agree with you but I really miss the good old days when Y&R was fast paced and well written. It’s sad that Dylan has become unlikeable and the actress playing Kelly overacts to the point that I now FF her scenes! Really missing Katherine !!!

Kelly?
There is no longer a Kelly..
We now have Dixie Cooney from AMC , total Dixie..

(Y&R brought on Dixie and killed-off the awesome Kelly..

I agree, Nikki. I FF much of Y&R. It wasn’t that many years ago that it was a truly superior soap. I miss THAT show.

Absolutely agree…about the soap, that is. All that other personal stuff, I have not gone through…Lol. And, jimh, why is your mind always in the gutter?……kidding, PEOPLE…lol

And some other posters thought i am such a prude…lol…hey, great name for a soap…’The Prude And The Gutter Minded’…only on HBO…lol

As much as I rag on B&B and Brad Bell’s obsession with triangles that never end– what happened last week was classic soap– the will he or will he not reach his lady love in time or lose her forever is one the best plots on the soaps. My favorite was the twist AW did, when it was Jake waiting for Vicky in the playground, to find out if she chose him or Shane.
And this one, who could fault them, a romantic location, real Paris and not just a studio shot. A nasty villianness who diverts the hero from his lady love— the lady being sweep away by the dashing anti-hero for a wedding in Monte Carlo, both of them jumping into water to symbolize taking the plunge— all great stuff, the stuff of romance novels. B&B drives me crazy at times, but out of the four soaps left it is the only way that still puts romance at the heart of most of their stories–so if romance is what you want in your soap, B&B is your best bet—

I really dont want another baby story but on Days this would have added great drama had Kristen returned with child claiming the kid was Bradys but is actually Erics…can imagined Marlena’s shocked reaction finding out one of her grandchildren is from her no.1 enemy…of course she has grandkids that are E.J.s but this would be different because of the circumstances…then there is Erics reaction…could he accept and love this child…i say yes…it would be a struggle at first but i think Nicole would be some help…Eric would be reluctant at first…but Nicole would take it one step at a time and in the end re-earn Erics love…so many possiblities for years to come…imo!!!

now that would rock the boat laffs, nice one !! 😛

You’re right,a jean. Jimh should write for all the soaps. I love jimh, as a poster….and, he seems like very likeable, personable guy. ….seriously.

Loving my GH, regardless!! 🙂

I liked all of GH but really want to see more Fluke stuff, along with the Jason stuff. Levi was by far the best thing of all. The whole reveal finally made everything from that story awesome and can’t miss. The Nina stuff is boring unless we can bust her already.

Y&R needs to have more Mariah and Ward stuff with less Summer and Austin lovey dovey.

Days is good everywhere.

B&B you can never take seriously. When in real life does someone have someone one week then the next week say they love someone else, then month later go back to the guy. It is stupid writing and shows they have no originality. When was an innovative idea shown on this show last. The characters are all so weak and boring, there is never new life.

Can’t wait for more Fluke myself. With Anthony on vacation though it’s going to be a bit more of a wait. I hope people don’t lose interest in the mean time.

Storylines/characters I like on GH: Britt and Nicholas, Britt and Spencer, Fluke, all the Quartermaines (I include Michael as a Q), the gay trio of Felix-Brad-Lucas, Maxie-Levi-Nathan, Maxie’s parents, Dr. O, Patrick and Sabrina,Alexis and Julian, Ava, and Liz.

Can’t stand Sonny, most of the other Corinthos, Kiki, Lulu and Dante, or Franco.

Love Nicholas with Britt and Britt with Spencer is must see TV! Love Felix-Brad-Lucas, but not necessarily because their gay. Great acting and comedy when those three are on the screen.

Days of our Lives is giving their all…blood, sweat and tears…and then some!!!

I agree. LOVE DOOL! No FF of this show for me. That says it all.

Whew! thank goodness…. Kristen made it to town… even tho it was the “last” place “she” wanted to be

didn’t our “heightened” awareness just soar… an elevation of sorts only lived with Kristen ?

that pseudo sexual risque avant-garde let’s feature Daniel some more… for a full week with the one and only stellar come on ! it’s Kristen… w/small Daniel

the plaudits from the whole town… with shower…. dire Jenn…. “I could have lost you”

THANK GOD…. as soon as she HIT town… all of Salem shook up. watching Kristen and EJ at the police station… as she told him… “i’ll ruin you” if he didn’t help her out… with his legalese

Bravo! for going this route… will this make it easier for Sami… or will this bring them back together

I have to admit… having all of the characters at the Salem PD… for one thing or another… and wallah… she walks in…

sans Brady….

Wow… ( I’m still 3 eps behind) but… this is quality stuff TIME and time again… goings on in Salem

I truly felt for Theresa as she was blindsided when she went to see Brady and he had a notary public… to sign the annulment papers…. I wanted so much for her to run after him and … do him in… too… LOL… and get those divorce papers and not tell Brady … she’d still be married… and it’s her secret

theres’ so much going to go ON ?!?! with Kayla, Aiden, and Hope! I can’t stand this! if it’s so…. I love both of them…. my heart will always be with my love… Kayla… and I remain steadfast and vigilant for Hope… one beacon. to love her and Bo… yet… Hope deserves to MOVE

will it be Hope or Kayla… it’s a drama … that… I still agree with CeeCee I think… it wouldn’t be right to see two woman fighting vying and loving one man…. yet, if it was me… and the man Aiden… IS….

I teared up some… when Marlena stoically asked John to give her a sign… move… she walked out… didn’t know… that tear that dropped… out of John

Yikes gasp…. our sign

it bugs me some… that the lawsuit… that works against Eve … is that Jack’ book profits be given the “military” was this an obvious sign that Jennifer HORTON legacy character will win out… and leave Eve squandering…. and dull strikes again… as Jenn heralds her inner being… snore

our ever vigilant grans jewel… ( i’m sorry I call her that ) BUT, she is. Jenn… carries the Horton legacy… even tho she should be backburned so fast… she’d be a distant memory…. faster than her veteran status.

back to Brady… and back to Eve… back to Theresa… back to Kayla…. bring on T…. and you have an APB … marcquee that just will not let up…. they smolder

I honestly don’t know what the story escalation for Kristen is going to be… but… she , in an arena all her own…. just stirs…. too treats…. begs me to stay tuned….

sorry to say… I’m just not that in to any more… it played out too long… Jordon and Ben…. the mere fact that RAFE’alicious and Kate bedded again…. should again and again…. be a sign that it’d be sooner than better to let Jordan and Ben exit… and the production team bring back Sheryl …. for Lucas…. and I would love Rafe and Kate back in the mix… together

@4ever and MBmom…. DAYS of OUR Lives… rolls… reels… makes their mark… for a dedicated audience to FEAST….

that little train that could…. always in 4th… deserves better ratings… but has all the formula triggered appetite satiate

Agree, agree, agree, Patrick. One little footnote…..I was so happy when it seemed that cute, little Jenny finally gave up her ’60 garb, but it seems that she has raided my Gran’s trunk where she keeps her ’60’s/’70’s hippie wardrobe. I really loved that white maxi with the flowered bodice, but, c’mon, now. Retro is nice, but I ask…WHY?.

Kristen to “Stefano”

“You know what happens when a DiMera betrays a DiMera”

Wow! woah! Yikes!

sparks, trigger, let the drama unfold…..

currently, NOW, I’m more intrigued how this drives for EJ, then Sami, at this point. Once again, she’s all over EJ about brother Eric spiral from priesthood… blaming EJ… when EJ clearly told Sami… he would have nothing to do with Kristen.

INTRIGUE ALLURE :

#1 Sami’ – expose – by son Will

#2 Kristen and EJ…. how will the familial DiMera bond fare

#3 Kayla, inquiring minds want to know , asking Hope: “do you still think of Bo”

————–

Will and Sonnny, are: solidified

quite clearly: it’s time for them to bite

Guy Wilson is relaxed, IN to, and Fine, by, me

————

footnote : Abs

God… I don’t want her so close to…like mom Jenn…. Shutz Pa… Abs…. get it!
from golden circle to character lead…. there’s a mix of woman/child going on… and , I say, whatever it takes to steer her away from godlike Jenn. You can do IT! she’s not identified, but sparked, with Austin, Chad, EJ, and even some Ben. I am so hoping she sparks with the nuChad… so Ben and Jordan… sadly enough… I have to prop the actor who portrays Jordan… I AM SO IN LOVE with your character from AMC… Amanda. it’s not her fault… the writing took so long to develop… I’d be happy of the let go of Jordan and Ben… to bring back Sheryl for THE man, Lucas.

Fan Salute

for my show we need continuity continuity continuity. i’m not sure if i’m excited about seeing milo and epiphany togethr mainly because i’m not sure we will see them at all. Liz had a story with Rick but now thats on hold while he plays dead till fake fluke (anthony geary ) gets back from vacation. where the freek is Anna? one week she’s on an the next week no Anna, and forget about Duke who has disappeared. one dissapointing plot point that had me screaming at the screen was when Molly was at the hospital, but cousins Michael and Morgan were more worried about the hire help( sorry Alice). guess since morgan is all grown up and getting women his mothers age pregnant he forgot how much he use to hang out with molly. when i think about it, morgan should really be more messed up then he is, think about it, two women in the same family, screwed him over for two men in his family…and i’m not buying sam as nancy drew, or for that matter kick ass/bad ass or whatever Patrick called her that made her smile like a teenage girl.

I completely agree; see my comment below. The show has no balance with so many boring, new, useless characters being added. A week of a boring Aztec jewelry heist wedding was a total waste of air-time and could have been settled within one episode. Tired of Dante and nu-Lulu having the same, old boring conversation about whether to have another baby. Tired of the Sam show, too and her monotone. I’m just tired of it all! It’s been nice not seeing Kiki. That’s been a blessing!

I know. Right!? Firstly, this sudden illness which befell Alice puzzles me. I’m still not sure of its purpose….perhaps it will become clear. Maybe I missed that episode. But, what boggles my mind more is Morgan’s loyalty to Alice….didn’t realize they were that close. I must have missed more than one episode for failing to see that loving relationship. He’s not even a Quartermaine.
I should not complain…instead I should be grateful I can still tune in and watch when I am able. But, yeah, I would like to obliterate Sonny, Levi and Sam the most.

CeeCee….Morgan became quite fond of Alice during his brief marriage to Kiki (who thought she was a Quartermaine at the time…) when they were holing up at the Q mansion….first in-house and later at the boathouse on the property that he decorated as their little love nest. Whenever “Mr. Morgan” needed anything, Alice was always happy to oblige….she was almost like his guardian angel, so he has since been forever grateful. Even when he often behaved like a spoiled brat, he always respected and appreciated Ms. Gunderson for her helpful assistance. The fact he initially recognized her as “The Dominator” didn’t hurt either….her sporting persona really scored points with the Corinthos Kid. Having said that, you are correct that this illness came out of the blue…it hasn’t made sense up until now, and perhaps never will, but at any rate, it was good to see Alice back onscreen. She is one of the best minor characters on the GH canvas, and her months-long absence was completely mystifying to long-term viewers.

Loving GH as always. I would like to see Franco and Nina together, great chemistry there! Imagine the mischief those two could get into. Also love that Obrecht and Franco are kindred spirits.

Enough of the Sonny merry go round! And bring back more Qs!!!!! Why can’t Alan be frozen?! And also want to see Jax back.

I quit watching Y&R when Michelle left and honestly haven’t missed it at all! I read Soap digest and their stories still sound stupid.

I started watching Days when I heard Kassie was coming on board and I must admit I’m hooked. Probably in the minority but can’t stand Jennifer!! What is up with that woman? Her family can do anything the want and it’s not their fault but somebody else’s so don’t beat themselves up about it? Really?

I have to say though I still tremendously miss OLTL and AMC.

I’m a full-fledged member of the I Hate Jennifer Club. Used to really like the character, but she has turned into a shrew. I do think Melissa Reeves is a good actress.

I”m sorry… you’re being too nice….

I’ll pulpit… soapbox…. eye roll

she along with Daniel are so savior’ed OUT…. over…. that I’d cull evil forbearance to wreak havoc with; that their small beings hightail it out of Salem

MR coattailed on the arms of Jack Deveraux…. Matthew Ashford carried

Jennifer’s a good girl. Her surroundings have changed her. She’ll be fun again…with time.

Nina and Franco as one was my first thought as soon as I saw them interact. There is definite sexual tension between the two.

Yes, CeeCee, it’s amazing how mutual cases of insanity can provide such sparks…so much for opposites attracting! Additionally, who would have ever “thunk” that Franco would actually be the more stable one in a relationship? (I’m all for these two “problem children” getting together…they are woefully inadequate and miscast in their present partnerships….no chemistry or excitement whatsoever.)

Well, Shay. You are entitled to your opinion, but don’t bite my head off. Why so angry? I can “hear” it in your words. These two have lots of chemistry. On the other hand, Nina and Silas have zero chemistry….my opinion….

I must apologize to Shay. After re-reading your post, Shay, I realized that you have said exactly what I said. I completely misread your post. Therefore, the tables are turned here. I have put my foot in my mouth….and, it seems that I am the one biting your head off. I am deeply sorry.
Yes, you’re right. As immature and crazy Nina and Franco are, they fit, whereas, their partners as they are are miscast…using your phraseology….again, I regret my impertinence. Forgive me?

@CeeCee…I can understand your first impression being what it was….I was utilizing wry observations in agreeing with you, and sometimes that technique can initially cause misunderstanding or rub people the wrong way! But that’s just my style. (I trust you are a relatively new poster? Or a really old one that preceded me, as your name is only recently familiar from my perspective….) Let’s just say my posts are an acquired taste for some, and leave it at that…LOL. Of course, I accept your apology. I’m just glad I really did not offend you, because as much as I often enjoy employing sarcasm in many of my writings, I honestly don’t set out to cause affront. Lastly, I truly do welcome the notion of RoHo, I mean Franco, breaking free from “CarlyLand”….he has been mired in relationship purgatory for far too long, and that charmless coupling has been an epic failure. Ditto for Silas and his loose cannon of a spouse. I was not glad to see MS turn up in Port Charles from the beginning, and her cloying lunatic of a character is yet another disaster at the hands of Cartini. I cannot stand that witch on wheels clad in her filmy, angelic smocks playing this long-suffering, beatific martyr to her unsuspecting husband. He is far too cool and canny to fall for her duplicity much longer! But since it would seem that we are stuck with her for the foreseeable future, it would appear the best option is shipping her with the fellow nutcase….hence, welcome “Ni-co!”

DOOL has so much more balance than GH. I’m very disappointed in GH. I can’t keep track of the storylines because there are too many recurring, useless characters and ridiculous storylines (Aztec jewel heist, unfreezing corpses) that I forget where each story left off when it is picked up again. I’d much rather see the core, historic characters, friendships, new relationships. romance, and cliff-hanger Fridays.

totally agree

DAYS is on-top of its game, however, GH is definitely the weakest soap both writing-wise, and production-wise on the air. They need a reboot right now, or else I don’t see it getting any better.

GH needs a good “couple on the run” story. Bring Spinelli back, we could have a PI fantasy. Altho the menage a trois vibe has been entertaining!

Your are so right Scott..GH is a hot mess and needs a serious jump start…DAYS has been consistently good for the last 3 years, albeit on a very slow pace, but still good solid story telling, acting and directing!!

Beautiful breakfast scene…Sami, Kate and EJ. Love the beautiful summer colors and early am makeup!
Nice eye!

That Will is such a punk.

DOOL is so good right now. I enjoy GH and glad the numbers are up, but I wish they would work on the lack of balance and pacing. They also should trim the cast bit.

I agree..I don’t like this story of having Will turn on his mom…She did nothing to him, so I do not get the story here.

I also agree the DOOL is very good right now but like you mention the pacing of the show is off and slow.

Omar, I think this whole phenomenon of Will exposing his innermost feelings and angst for his mother in writing is merely a ploy to herald Abby’s re-entrance as the victim of Sami’s machinations. Sami is leaving…..Abbi is staying. Therefore, her I-am-a-good-girl, pure and innocent image needs to be prepped, polished and redeemed. We have already gleaned some of her childlike attitude during her conversation with Clyde….all wide-eyed and mouth-agape in surprise to his underlying “threats”. It is obvious, at least to me, that Sami has to exit as the bad guy…the town’s paraya . Well, that’s one way of exiting. The other, which would be much more fair to both Ali and James, is for them to make up and leave together with their children, as a family. Have EJ leave first, as he is, and then have Sami and the kids join him wherever. No? Sounds good to me…lol.

I love dool I’ve been watching since I was 14 I am 64.Can’t wait to see how Samy will leave the show. May be OFF a Cliff!!!!!!!.

EJ leaving too.OH NO,DOOLl what going on?

I only watch GH and I’m loving it. Yes, I have my complaints…some of which have been mentioned:

Where is Duke?

Anna? They’re under utilizing her and she just mumbles a few sentences and she’s done.

Bring them back together ON SCREEN and give them a story!

Would love to see more of Lucy and Scott.

Not thrilled with Carly and Sonny together. The man threatened to kill her over Olivia…he would never had gone thru with it but how do you get back with someone after they threaten to kill you? And even had that not occurred…they’re ancient history now. No desire to see them together.

Love, love, love Roger Howarth and FINALLY they’re writing for him! Until the last few weeks his version of Franco was made into an immature buffoon…absolutely ridiculous…man child…just couldn’t stand him! And I LOVE Roger Howarth. FINALLY…he’s making sense, he has adult conversation, he’s lucid…not imbecilic! FINALLY…he gets to have backbone, an intelligent mind, a chance to bond with another character on a albeit demented/twisted level with Nina…instead of an infantile, inane one they had him depict before. This is a complete turnaround and I’m loving it! Roger Howarth is a dynamic actor and this new writing of him allows him to shine. Loving him with Nina too! Haven’t liked Nina at all until they started pairing her with RH. I think the have great chemistry…and am totally into seeing and hoping that they couple up.

I’m thinking this will be the turning point where Franco, out of jealous rage, tells Michael that Sonny shot AJ. This could be the start of something good on many soapy levels!

I have watched days from day one. But this WiLL and Sonny is just to much . I don’t watch when they are on. If they stay around I will stop watching. I will really miss days but I just can’t eatch the two. It is just way to wrong.

Please don’t let your hatred outweigh your love. You can’t be forced to watch…With time, I hope you accept Will and Sonny as representatives of people that should be loved…as all people should be…Days of our Lives… the o in “our” in the title is not capitalized as such because the “our” signifies we the people of all walks of life…not just the characters on the show. They are characters, but they matter as do the people whom they represent…a part of the “our”…we should never forget. May you be happy and content for all our lives.

I love the relationship between Will and Sonny. They interact and have the same issues as any married couple. I adore Sonny….the nuWill? I am still trying to get used to him. That is not to say there’s any hatred involved…he’s just another character playing a part…..a human being first and foremost… May your advice and wisdom reach those of us who need it…you be happy too, what can I say? Thanks?

Days is the best soap and has been for a few years now.

Distribution? That’s what Clyde said to Kate. He wants to “employ” Stefano’s unsavory henchmen to distribute what? Illegal drugs? …..black market? Here we go again; another drug-dealing storyline or whatever sinister schemes Clyde has in mind. I think we have had our fill of similar storylines on soaps….specifically GH…the neverending story. I really hope this new plot offers something original and suspenseful….challenge my brain, writers.!!!!

What I’m writing is the truth…I have always liked the storyline with Jordan and then Ben and finally Clyde. When Poplar Bluff, Missouri was first mentioned (it has been mentioned a lot), I figured it would have something to do with dope.

I am very familiar with Poplar Bluff and it’s citizens. When Kate traveled there, I laughed because it was so surreal. I know of people and places like that.

Poplar Bluff is in Butler County, which is (or at least was) the biggest dope county in Southeast Missouri!!!

I’m OK with the storyline involving dope, but a whole different story would be OK too.

Well, 4ever…that is a very foreign world for me…never did drugs, never will. I find no interest in such storylines, which, by the by, have been overly used and abused.

I don’t watch DOOL, but I am very much in agreement with you about the drug storylines on GH, CeeCee. They totally disgust me. I’ve never understood the fascination people have with the subject…in fiction or real life!

Shay, I was not affronted…just taken aback. I usually read in a hurry, thus, I misread. But, I do appreciate your sarcasm. Yes, I am a relatively new poster. I had a very difficult pregnancy which led to my spending a lot of time on the couch, watching soaps.
I agree with you as far as Michelle Stafford is concerned, that is, playing Nina. I was always one of her most avid fan, but I am not getting the vibe I expected to feel from her. Perhaps her pairing with Franco will add some good natured craziness…ironically, my 5-year-old’s nickname is Nico…from Nicholas…lol.
I think Sonny and Carly deserve each other… I still cannot fathom Sonny’s sexual prowess…his stamina…must be on triple dose of Viagra.
If the vanishing monster absconds with my post, I will understand.lol

CeeCee…I am sorry to hear of your difficulties with your most recent baby….even though they were previously unbeknownst to me, I was aware that you were a new mother and also have another young child for which to care, so I pretty much put down your initial reaction to my post to plain old exhaustion. Even though my writings may sometimes be a bit controversial, I didn’t expect that particular one to warrant such a response…hence, I had to go back and read what I had posted. (I’m still pleased that it was just an oversight….) As for that “Ni-co” moniker, I had seen some other more onerous online name suggestions for the Nina/Franco pairing, and it occurred to me that this one was not only more simple, but also adorable!!!! (As I’m sure your “Nico” is, too….awwww!) I am with you on the mystery of Sonny’s attraction to and prowess with the opposite sex…he has never been a favorite of mine, but once his creepy crypt tryst with Ava transpired, that was just it for me….over and out! I’m also totally turned off to the supposed acting magic of MS. She’s simply too twitchy and squirrely for me with all of her hand motions, eyeball action and jerky movements. I really hope that before long she will be emancipated from that wheelchair and her “rolling thunder” routine…..I’m particularly curious as to whether “Auntie Liesl” will discover her secret ability to walk…..there certainly should have been a closed circuit security camera in that hospital elevator, don’t you think????

Finally ! Is the jig really up? Is Fluke really exposed? Funny, this great revelation did nothing for me. This storyline has kept us guessing for soooo long that all the interest died months ago….especially since everyone, more or less, guessed who it could have been.

So, Nina is planning to ‘get’ a baby, one way or another. What are the chances she will either sleep with Franco, get artificially inseminated or just help herself to Ava’s baby? Of course, she will fake a pregnancy. And, most importantly, every devilish , sinister and misguided scheme she employs, will make perfect sense to her. The voices in her head will justify every move she makes. Another baby plot…yippee!!

In the Daytime Drama series categories, CBS’ The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless each scored 12 nominations more than any other show. Leading the acting nominations was B&B, who landed 7 performers in the various categories, a first in its 37-year history.

In a statement, Adam Sharp, President & CEO, NATAS expressed, “We are happy to once again honor the creative talent both in front of and behind the camera of America’s favorite Daytime programs. We look forward to celebrating the icons who enliven the days of audiences across the country.”

Brent Stanton, Head of Daytime, NATAS added, “Producing the Daytime Emmys is a labor of love for all of us at NATAS. The huge popularity of these shows continues to be must-see viewing for their fans.” NATAS also revealed that Lifetime Achievement Honorees, Hosts, Presenters, and Silver and Gold Circle honorees will be revealed at a later date.

The Daytime Emmy Awards recognize outstanding achievement in television programming honoring work in a variety of categories, including daytime dramas, talk shows, instructional programming, hosting, culinary, and legal/courtroom programs. In 2021, NATAS and the Television Academy jointly announced plans to realign the Daytime and Primetime Emmy Awards to be organized by content genre, as opposed to program airtime.

The 51st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards will be produced once again by NATAS and Associated Television International (ATI). Adam Sharp and Lisa Armstrong are executive producers from NATAS, while David McKenzie executive produces from ATI.

Congratulations to all the men and women in front of the camera and behind the scenes for their recognition as we take a look at who will be going for gold come June. Here are the nominees below starting with the Daytime Drama Categories.

Days Of Our Lives

Stephen Schnetzer Talks On His Return to Days of our Lives and Working with Susan Seaforth Hayes In Emotional Episodes

Who says you can’t go home again? In the case of Another World favorite, Stephen Schnetzer (ex-Cass Winthrop), he has proven that it is true, and you can go back to your soap roots and where it all started for you.

Last week on April 11th, Schnetzer, along with several other key returns were on set at Days of our Lives taping all-new episodes of the Peacock streaming soap opera, centering on the funeral of Doug Williams (the late Bill Hayes), and as part of the iconic soap opera’s 15,000th episode.

Stephen is reprising his first daytime role as Steve Olson, the brother of Julie Williams (Susan Seaforth Hayes). The last time Schnetzer appeared on a DAYS set was during his one and only run on the show from 1978 to 1980. Clearly, viewers will be in for some very emotional scenes when Steve returns to Salem to be there for his sister, Julie in her time of need. In real-life, Susan has been going through her own grief, having just lost Bill back on January 12th at the age of 98.

Michael Fairman TV caught up with Stephen during the 15K episode celebration ceremony, and during a break from taping the gut-wrenching funeral scenes, to get his thoughts on being part of these highly-anticipated moments that will air later this year in December. Here’s what he shared with us below.

What has this been like for you to work with Susan Seaforth Hayes after all of these years?

STEPHEN: She’s a dream and she’s so bright. We ran lines yesterday and we ended up just visiting for about 45 minutes and just catching up and telling tales about each other’s career. She even dropped off the autobiography that she and Bill did. And being back here at DAYS, every time I turn a corner, there’s another familiar face. When I was on the show 40 more years ago, a bunch of the guys, played softball on a team together. This is really a trip down memory lane as I knew it would be.

Photo: JPI

Taping Doug’s funeral must be a hard day for Susan. Are you checking in with her to help hold her up through this?

STEPHEN: I am and I’m checking in with Amy Shaughnessy (Susan’s assistant), and she’s holding her up more than anybody. We’re there for each other.

There will obviously be some major hankie-inducing moments when Steve comes back to Salem to console his sister.

STEPHEN: Oh, wait till you see it in December. It’s going to be great.

Were you surprised you got this call to come back to the show decades later?

STEPHEN: It was out of the blue! I was completely surprised. They should have called me decades ago! That’s what surprised me. When Another World went down, I thought I’d land somewhere else and it never happened. That was more of a surprise.

Photo: JPI

Cass is such an identifiable character for you. As well, you and Linda Dano (ex-Felicia Gallant) are so synonymous together as best friends Cass and Felicia from Another World. When fans heard you were reprising your role as Steve Olson on DAYS, they are now hoping there will be more of you on the show to come.

STEPHEN: Steven Olson is a real “Cassian “character. I cut my teeth on Steve Olson and that’s how Cass was introduced. He was kind of a roguish charmer. And then when the character stuck for Another World, they rehabilitated me, and turned me into one of the shows heroes. And that’s what would’ve happened if I stayed as Steve Olson probably. So, Steve is the ‘pre-Cass’, Cass.

Photo: JPI

As the story goes, you originally decided to leave Days of our Lives?

STEPHEN: I was never on contract. I was doing a day and a half a week and I got a Broadway play directed by Franco Zeffirelli starring Joan Plowright and Frank Finlay. I was able to it as I didn’t have to break a contract or anything. I cut loose and went back to New York for that.

How well did you get to know Bill Hayes during your first time around on DAYS?

STEPHEN: My first episode was with Bill and Susan, as her long lost brother coming into Salem. They were so good to me. They were so kind. I had been doing eight years of classical repertory theater, never been in front of a camera. I tell everybody, it took me longer than any other actor I’ve ever seen to get comfortable in front of a camera. And they were very supportive at that time in my career. Coming back to honor Bill now in 2024, and to be see Susan, I am just so happy to be here.

Looking forward to seeing the scenes between Stephen and Susan Seaforth Hayes come December and Doug’s funeral and surrounding episodes? Do you hope that DAYS might bring the character of Steve Olson back for a longer stay? Comment below.
