RATINGS: Y&R, B&B, GH & DAYS All Up In Total Viewers!

The ratings are out for the week of August 29th through September 2nd, which featured a pivotal week for The Young and the Restless, in which it aired its 11,000th episode and ended the run of series star, Justin Hartley (Adam Newman), who departed in a explosive series of events.

Going around the horn with the four network daytime soaps, each saw an uptick in total viewers.  Led by Y&R, which showed the highest increase of +91,000 and featured a Monday episode that landed an average of over 5 million viewers, the number one-rated soap fared the best for the ratings period.  However, it should be noted it did not do as well in key demos showing minuses in total viewers in the 18-49 and 25-54 female categories.

ABC’s General Hospital showed the second highest total audience gains for the week adding +64,000.  GH began its JaSam wedding, revealed who is the hospital killer and more, during the ratings week.  Additionally, GH was the only daytime drama to add viewers all three key demos: 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54.

As for CBS’ The Bold and the Beautiful they also added +40,000 total viewers, but on the converse, the show lost viewers in all key demo categories. The series continues to tie lows in the 18-34 and 18-49 ratings share.

Days of our Lives, which aired its final week of airshows under the old head writing regime led by Josh Griffith, added some eyeballs with a plus +9,000, while remaining in the loss column of adding viewers in key demos.  It will be interesting to see how the new episodes under new co-head writers, Dena Higley and Ryan Quan will track with the viewers once the ratings come in from September 6th airshows and beyond.  View the entire current ratings picture courtesy of SON here.

Numbers are based on Live+Same Day ratings

(Compared to Last Week/Compared to Last Year)

Total Viewers
1. Y&R 4,760,000 (+91,000/-17,000)
2. B&B 3,758,000 (+40,000/+190,000)
3. GH 2,588,000 (+64,000/-47,000)
4. DAYS 2,158,000 (+9,000/-157,000)

So, which soap opera do you think aired the best episodes during the ratings period? Which show is performing worse or better in the ratings than you expected? Which show is piquing your interest right now each week?  Which, is not? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below!

Ratings will always go up and down but as long as they dont stay down and keep going down there shouldnt be much to worry unless we get a frons type in charge of things…

Yes, jimh, you’re right. I’ve never cared much about ratings, that is until they use them to cancel shows I like (AS THE WORLD TURNS, NASHVILLE, MURDER ONE, RED BAND SOCIETY). Hopefully our treasured shows will carry on for many years to come!

i miss ATWTs…

Days already had one…Ted “and I am tellin’ you I’m not goin” Corday

I really think he could care less if the show was cancelled…someone else needs to takeover…if the show doesnt improve and looses ratings causing cancelation i will not watch anything connected to him.

Yes, Jimmy……I can see Sam with Morticia’s ensemble…..Especially with her hair down.

Seems the ”Nielsen Families” tuned into the soaps and were counted last week..
It would be kewl if when we watch we were counted, but we are not ..
I wonder how many viewers there ”actually” are, we are just an estimate of the Nielsen people/watchers…LOL
heh if I watch or not it makes no difference because I am not counted, I’m just an estimate 🙁

Y&R is really good! it has actual stories/plots ((GH does not it just has boring junk ahaa))

Long live our soaps!!!

Y&R is getting good now, next week Jack finds out that Phyllis and Billy boy are sleeping together. GH is really boring right now, but it will get better in time. Days better get their ratings up, or kiss goodbye too Days next year. Alison Sweeney needs to come back to Days, I miss her so much.

Yes…and it should not be such a big surprise for Jack! He’s already been through this ” my wife cheated on me with my brother” thing.
Jack lost his pants….doesn’t look too good with his wife’s skirt on. And, Billy needs to be run through.
I’m with you, Mark. I wish Alison would come back with Will and EJ.
As I said on another thread, the trio is together, somewhere in Switzerland. Well, it could happen that way.

Celia you might be right, you should be a writer for Days. The show needs a good writer right now. I hope Days gets better, and stays on the air. Lol to funny Jack sure lost his pants all right. He is a wimp and better get his act together. Alison Sweeney is a wonderful actress, I hope she comes back to Days, I know it was her decision to leave but she is missed.

Celia, my dear…as far as I’m concerned, those Y&R PINHEADS have WATERED DOWN both Jack and Billy…and to the point of DROWNING THEM BOTH!!!!! BEYOND BLAH!!!!!

Later, my friend.

@jaybird.
Hey, Jay,
You know, I am so used to Jack blowing in the wind, as it were, that I can pretty much tolerate him…..regardless his stupidity….as I said he lost his pants ( could say he lost something else….but, ….LOL).
Billy? From day one, Jason T did not jive with me. Later.

Things are starting to get interesting now. What I don’t understand is how a man as smart as Jack hasn’t seen the writing on the wall before now. He has walked in Billy’s house a couple of time at least, and they were the only two there. One time Phyllis was nly wearing Billy’s shirt. If that wasn’t a clue, I don’t know what he is waiting for. I really hoping the Sully situation comes out soon. That will really affect alot of people. Especially if it comes to light that Adam and not Nick is the father, which Chelsea knows, which will really make Nick go ballistic. I just hope they don’t have the baby have an eye situation. That story is getting a little old. But we are overdue for Sharon to have one of her breakdown’s. And the outing of Sully will definitely do it. She is already on the verge of cracking and no one knows anything yet. It would be nice to see Mariah and Chole have little sparring matches on occasion over Kevin since it looks like her and Summer have sort of bonded in the coffe house the other day. Mariah needs some to throw her snarky comments at, and I think Chole is the perfect candidate. And what is with Jill and the chest pains? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see

Agreed, Mark. DOOL is in BIG need of damage control.
I will probably be ‘kicked in the arse’ by Hope fans, but, am I the only one who feels Hope and Rafe do not stir any emotion as lovers?
Rafe has lost his ‘cool’ factor….reminds me of Jack Abbott. What’s up with these guys? Or, should I say LITTLE WOMEN?? I could never be with a guy who fawned all over me the way these guys do. Respect is a must; showing affection is a plus, but, this is ridiculous.
I loved him with Sami. I actually looked forward to their scenes together. I enjoyed watching Rafe with Sami and her kids….living in that cute, little apartment together.
Suddenly Rafe has a house with Mommy and Daddy living there? And, who else? What happened to Claudia? I really liked her. I thought she and Rafe connected. But, gee, TPTB have to accommodate Hope because she is an old character, vet……literally.
Furthermore, get Maggie out of that darn wheelchair. ENOUGH!!!!!! She can walk; I’m sure of it!! LOL.
Dario is on stage for what???? What is his purpose????
The prison scenes are ridiculous. Does anyone care? Again, is it just me?
I could go on and on and on about what’s wrong with this show….don’t get me started on John Black…..DOUBLE LOL.
Sorry, if I am ticking anyone off, but that’s how I feel. DOOL used to have my undivided attention, now, I watch it as I work out .
The return of Abby will most likely be ‘healthy’ for DOOL…. So, hurry up and let it happen.
Hey, Mark….sorry for venting….I guess you are the victim of my rant, tonight. TRIPLE LOL?????

The writing on Y&R has indeed gotten a lot better. Celia, I could not agree with you more about Jack. If I have to watch him grovel one more time at Phyllis’s feet apologizing for having the audacity to breath while in her presence, I am going to kick my air filter.
And what gives with Billy? Billy has always been a deeply flawed character with a big heart. He suddenly seems so cold. He doesn’t seem to care that he is betraying his brother and he doesn’t seem to give a damn about his mother.
The only person he seems to kind of like is Phyllis and he’s even rather cold and insensitive to her feelings. I don’t really see the love there.
I wonder if Jason Thompson is striving to be the anti-Patrick? Patrick wore his heart on his sleeve, was often seen crying, and acted a lot like Jack. Does anyone think Jason is making a conscious effort to go against type with his approach to Billy? Or is this the result direction he is receiving and the writing he is being afforded?

Lol Celia venting is good for the soul. Good to let it out. Agree Rafe and Hope bore me to death. Love Rafe, but he belongs with Kate Roberts. They had terrific chemistry. I hope the new Abby can act, she debuts in November. Poor Maggie please let her walk again. Probably will walk again by Christmas, you know how Days drags there storylines.

@Harry.
Great way of describing Billy, Harry.
Jason is not working, as Billy. Not even the original Billy ( David Tom) could play Billy as Billy M.
It is what it is.
Naughty Billy, as portrayed by BM was realistic…..we forgave him. I don’t know why, but I did; as I think many did, too. The present Billy obfuscates the character…..too nebulous, without definition. His composure, his looks, his gestures, his comportment speak of nothing.
There is no ‘bad boy’ characteristic ( so effortlessly displayed by BM) that Jason’s Billy offers that draws me in. But, I do know the chances of BM coming back are not too favorable But, as someone said (was it Timmm?), Michael Roark would have been perfect.
I hope Jack discovers the truth and kicks both to the curb, albeit he and Jill betrayed John, just as Jack hurt Patty. By the by, speaking of Jill….I really enjoyed her little skit with Colin at the hospital. LOL.
I did say that this is not love on either part. Phyllis felt lost….she saw Marco in Jack. Her brain reeled….and to a certain extend, the thrill of secrecy of doing something so underhanded, heightened the sexual pleasure….I get it. I wouldn’t do it, but I get it. I am very strong willed, my dear Harry. LOL.
Billy? Well, he is just a baby with a sweet lollipop, who will WAIL once taken away. BRAT!!

Harry…I really doubt that ANY actotr on any show, or film, has the liberty to interpret a character the way he/she wants to the extent that they play them angrier, colder, sillier, more emotional, etc than the writer (s) intended. Jason can’t just play Billy cold to distant himself from Patrick, but can take a role that’s different to show his versatility. I think whenever these characters seem “out of character” it’s because they’re just written differently. Of course each actor has his/ her own style but can’t deviate too much from who the character is written to be….

Celia…as always, you are SO RIGHT ON!!!!! I am so damn tired of watching poor Maggie being stuck in that wheelchair!!!!! To me, it’s like ‘GET OUT OF THAT WHEELCHAIR AND WALK ALREADY’!!!!! BEYOND DUMB!!!!!

Later, friend.

@jaybird369.
Hey, jay,
Right? Poor Maggie wasting away in that wheelchair. It seems, though, that she’s on her way to using her legs again. She stood up today.
Later, jayjay.

absolutely, Mark. If not Sami, the Kate. I have always loved Kate. This is one time where I don’t even think of Kate as being in her sixties. She is that hot and sexy. Kate has chemistry with any man….that’s something that is innate. It’s unfortunate why TPTB can’t keep this powerhouse grounded. They have a gem, but do not give her the credit she deserves.
I am soooo waiting for Abby. As yourself, I hope her acting isn’t as languid as the fare we’ve been getting lately with the younger group.
Abby and Chad must mesh, in all ways….physically, mentally and emotionally. It must be so strong, so that the audience is willingly engaged….otherwise, we will be stuck with more oh-hums.

I’m very worried about the future of DOOL. GH, YR & BB consistently hold steady or show improvements. DOOL has had a writing revolving door for several years now and can’t seem to find worthy or fresh stories to tell. I hope this is not the swan song for this daytime legend!!! I will stay with it for as long as it takes to bring up those ratings. Come on Days of our Lives. We need you!!!!!

Geez I was thinking the same thing – for a while there, DAYS OF OUR LIVES was really interesting and innovative, between Will and Sonny having problems and of course EJ and Sami going at it – but now, to be honest, I force myself to watch it, if Belle leaves for Japan and takes what’s his name with her, I will be happy to say Sayonara – and take Claire too so we don’t have to listen to her whiney vocalizing which I could happily live without. I watch the show at night on the NBC app and unfortunately you can’t really FF through it – and there would, sadly, be A LOT for me to FF through. Also, I found it absurd when Gabi told Chad to “clean up his act” clothing wise, and in the next second she is offered a job as an Image Consultant…..oh yes that happens. She’s fresh out of Prison and now she’s an Image Consultant. Okay, uh huh, who in the world wrote this…..they NEED to come up with something a little more compelling than what is currently being depicted on screen.

Yeah, I always think, if the ratings go up, chances are we get to keep our shows! Y&R had a big week with their anniversary and Adams “Death.” I hear next week Billy’s secret affair is out for everyone to know and Sharon is exposed! Sounds like another ratings win next week for Y&R!

GH: Jason and Sam’s wedding was a snooze fest!

Franco is EVERYWHERE! Give us a break!

So, Lulu cannot even raise ONE child and she wants to hunt down Starvos’s Popsicle!

I was thinking while Robert drank a coffee at Perks, why would he spend two cents at a mob coffee shop? THEN, he is knocking back booze with Sonny! No freakin way! Robert should have given Anna’s message to Sonny and then left!

Oh, my Timmmy. You are too funny….but, soooo on the mark!! I missed talking to you.
Spent the day in the city (Freedom Tower)……our yearly excursion to honor those poor souls who lost their lives this day, 15 years ago. ….sad, sad, sad!!!!! Rest in peace!!
What I will say next will completely negate my above solemn words, I know…but, here it goes, Timmmy…..
I hope Jack kills Billy, (LOL) when he catches the cheaters. Best way of getting Billy off the show. Sooo not liking him…. Sorry, Jason T. This is not your role….not doing Billy Abbott justice.
In a way, I am glad Jack gets his comeuppance….just desserts, and all that jazz. It is called KARMA, baby!!!!!
Jack ruined Patty’s life.
The best thing about Jason and Sam was her dress. Loved the white dress and loved it on her. She looked really pretty…her hair, her make-up etc. I love wearing black myself; but a splash of color here and there does a ‘body’ good.
I do not like Franco right now. Liz is becoming an obsession….never a good thing.
So, we have Nina obsessing over wanting a baby; and him over a woman…..going out of his way to get blood. What a chore!!!!
I must admit, I looove this storyline, though…..But, you’re right; Franco should tone it down.

Im surprised Sam wasn’t married in Morticia’s Addams black dress…or su’s-lol

I miss talking to you, as well my little online sister! Freedom Tower, have to go there, for sure. I saw a special on Flight 93 and even FIFTEEN years later they interviewed one of the fireman who responded to that tragedy and STILL was brought to tears recounting that dreadful day!

Yes, switching gears to soaps, Jack NEEDS to show his manhood, so to speak and disown Billy. UNFORGETTABLE, hands down! Billy would be dead to me if he were my brother!

Sam looked old to me. She looked tired.

I do agree on black. NEVER a bad choice with a splash of ANY color!

Franco is a creep. I wouldnt let him 100 yards near my son!

I cannot wait for Liz to know she has an evil sister and her daddy comes to town!

God bless you and the USA Cee!

Timmm, I always enjoy reading your take on things. I personally didn’t mind Jason and Sam’s wedding, however. I thought it was refreshing to see a wedding that was just a wedding for a change, two people got married, and that was it. No one got shot, stabbed, kidnapped, held hostage, no one’s ex-husband or ex-wife came back from the dead to interrupt the wedding, no one got left at the altar, no one got into a fight, no evil twins returned, no one got arrested, no one died. Did I hit enough soap opera wedding cliches, lol?

Thanks GH1980. Yeah, you are right, there are not many weddings, especially on GH where it doesnt end in gun fire! I love your cliches, all spot on!

@GH

respectfully.. must

the reason thee wedding was without resonance… as I’ve always posted… everything about the Corinthos’ pie… entourage… with the kingpin… is dullard

I thought it was that much blah… because of ALL the cheers going on.. between Sam / Jason / Carly / Sonny / Spinelli… who does not add much any more on the comedic

The Corinthos’ bunch of malaise

Sonny / Carly / Jason / Sam / Michael / Spinelli / Alexis / Molly / Kristina and those adorable brats Jake and Daniel… okey dokey

argh ! right ? since Sonny and Carly shout from the mountain tops how much they love their kids… and whatnot

time for GH to cut their losses

the Sonny and Carly hour of power equals dullard

He, Timmmy,
Awwww, thank you. I like the idea of being your online sister.
I do not know where you live, but, yes, everyone, given the opportunity should visit FREEDOM TOWER. You become one with the ‘lost’ and their spirit. I felt it!!!!
Just as I said months ago, that everyone should visit a childre’s hospital in whatever State, he/she may reside. When confronted with these sick, helpless chilfren, one reslizes just how short and fragile life is….in the grand scheme of things? Stupid ‘fistifights’ mesn nothing.

I was a teen at the time….at boarding school in Connecticut. Let me tell you, Timmmy, the fear for my parents, whose office is on Wall St, was so forceful…. Like an elephant sitting on my chest. I couldn’t get in touch with anyone….except what we all saw unfolding on TV.

Anyway, Y&R is taking baby steps….but, I love this show so much….I will grant it some slack.
Sam , as Victoria Newman look older than their age….much older than their ‘soapmates’, but, pretty nonetheless. I just do not feel Sam and Jason together.
I have noticed that Alexis ( whom I truly love now, and looks younger than her a’actual’ age) has been getting headaches. So, does that mean she, also, has a brain tumor ? Did said tumor, if it does exist, cause her to close her eyes and mind to Julian’s criminal actions? LOL…. Could not help myself.
Where is this going? The idea that a man whom everyone knows to be a ‘debaucher’ of the law, morality, and all that is good in life, can even be entertained is appalling.
Yeah, yeah, Scotty must defend his client, but, this will be another Mickey Mouse trial with Goofy ( Scotty) in the defense corner and Captain Hook ( Paul) as the prosecutor. Who will be the ‘court Jester’?
Oh, my Timmmy, love……who is the evil sister? Hmmmmm. That is the question. LOL.
God bless you too, my friend….and all our compatriates. Salute the red, white and blue!!!!!! Forever USA.

Cee Cee, I visited a childrens hospital when I was a youth with the church. I NEVER forgot the sadness and desperation in some of those patients eyes. We are all so lucky.

My god how horrific it had to be to be out of touch with your parents on 911. Glad they survived. I watched a special on Sunday where it was reported that Cantor Fitzgerald lost 658 of its 960 New York employees in the World Trade Center attacks. Its unfathomable and sad!

Soaps:

Jason needs to be with someone totally new and exciting. I like Sam BUT those two are monotone. Jason needs his stick pulled out of the mud!

I love Liz and Hayden and they both have questionable pasts and presents! What I would do is have the third sister Sarah come home to PC and position her self right smack dab in the middle and watch the fireworks fly!

Bye “Sis!”

Hello, Timmmy,
Witnessing children who suffer from illness, hunger, abuse etc. and the tragedy of terrorism, war, guns, etc break my heart.
I felt humbled seeing the completed Freedom Tower. I still ask why.???? Why the massacre of human life??
Then again, what do I know!!!!! I am one of the deplorables; categorized and haphazardly placed into a basket in the company of more deplorables.
I love everyone. I love my family. I love my neighbors, and yours, Timmmy. I love my fellow women/men. We are one. I believe in God. I believe in the truth. I cherish life and all peoples. I do not take a hammer to my blackberry.

Liz is being a real B, right now. She could care less about the diamonds. They are a means to an end.
Liz just hates any woman who takes an interest in ‘her’ men, that’s in the PLURAL. LOL. She wants ALL of them. Weird, but, I still like her. She is so beautiful, even in hospital, right?
My question is…..When Nik comes back; he will be looking for those pesky, little ‘tres cher’ sparklers. How will Liz explain that away? Oh, I just wanted to stick it to Hayden?
Now, something else that bothers me is that Liz has no fear whatsoever about being discovered as a hinderer of justice. She knows Nik tried to kill Hayden. But, someone else is wrongly imprisoned.
What is wrong with this picture? As much as I like Liz, I want her to pay the piper.
Do I sound bloodthirsty, my brother? HaHa!!!!! Later.

Liz is no angel. On another site, IF you even think about criticizing her for ANYTHING, your ass is theirs! Why wouldnt she hold onto those diamonds until Nick resurfaces? I guess because she thinks he is dead? Its silly. I was never a big Liz fan. Carly gets a lot of heat but sweet little Lizzy isnt so sweet! She did look awesome in a hospital bed for falling down the stairs. By love!

Dearest CeeCee….You have the most beautiful knack for putting things in the proper perspective….I thought of you on 9/11 and wondered if I happened to see you without knowing it whilst watching the memorial services at the former Ground Zero….but I digress. I’ve not been watching GH on a regular basis in an age….too busy and not at all motivated due to the utter mess it has become—save for an occasional peek with certain characters—but I always check in here to read what my favorites like Timmmm, Harry, jimh, k/kay, etc. and, of course, you, have to say, and none of you disappoint! Having said that, just a takeaway thought or two on my limited recent glimpses into Port Charles….despite my own overriding penchant for black garb, I must agree that Sam looked enchanting in her bridal white… both she and Jason were a vision of matrimonial perfection , although the “Casual Friday” aspect of the wedding appalled me. (As did the drunken state of the “Mother of Bride”—from “nympho” to “alcho” in one fell swoop!– but we’ll save that most substantial discussion for another day….LOL!) I’m taking a wait and see attitude as to whether GH can lure me back for more regular viewing again….I’ve noted a few positive developments in the past couple of days….needless to say, I’m utterly delighted with the long-awaited departure of Sabs and I honestly won’t miss Tyler’s Prince Nik…he’s run his course with the show….time for some new regal Cassadine blood to inhabit Wyndemere….perhaps a return for the darkly handsome Mr. Stabile???? And with the Divine Devane’s reemergence, autumn looks to be a fine time in Port Charles….more Scorpio, too, please, and not simply to be involved in further chumming with St. Sonny in a kaffe klatch….please! Anyway, it’s been a long and far toooooo hot summer full of uber binge-watching UK shows for me, so I’m welcoming the approach of fall’s chill with bated breath and hopefully a new appreciation for what GH has to bring…perhaps a “resurrected” Helena, along with a much-rumored Luke sighting???? (Oh, speaking of foreign tv, I saw your fave Archie Panjabi on “The Fall” with Gillian Anderson…superb program, by the way….her Stella Gibson is a strong, sexy policewoman with a killer British accent that surpasses Dana Scully in every possible manner, most especially since she is sans that goofball Mulder….have you watched that show? It’s a winner, and Season Three is about to commence.) Also, getting into ITV’s “Victoria”….it’s well-done and visually impressive, although I don’t know that it will have the same impact as “Downton Abbey,” but then again, what will? Poldark and Indian Summers have also tried and failed at that feat regardless of their sumptuous production values, appealing stories and riveting actors….oh well, lightning rarely strikes twice! Anyway, must go, didn’t mean to ramble, but just wanted to touch base with a fellow “deplorable”…hah! It always feels good to reach out to my online GH buds! Later, mia amica!!!!

@Shay.
Oh, my sweet, sweet, Shaybelle,
It is so good to hear from you. I did not know what to think? I assumed you went on a ‘world excursion’. LOL.
We did not go abroad ( except for Canada) this year. I don’t want to put my kids at risk, albeit terror does exist in our own backyards. We did catch a couple of weeks on the Vineyard…..I do not like going when the White House is there. This is a close kept secret, LOL….. Rarely does one find a Vineyarder whose ‘welcoming’. The place becomes a madhouse.
My mother always says that the only time she did not mind the chaos was upon Princess Diana’s visit. And, my grandmother appreciated Jackie O. There is still a house with acres and acres of property, now owned by Caroline and family, I would think.
Okay….more positive stuff. I am truly liking where GH is trying to go…..not so much with Sabrina. I know, I know , we have never agreed on that subject. I, earnestly, hope she will survive.
9/11 was a personal, national and international nightmare which will stay with me until the day I die. My twin, Elle, and I thought we had lost our entire family. The world collapsed, in more ways than one. We could not get through to anyone….neighbors, other offices….nothing.

Believe it or not….I am really appreciating Nancy Grahn. She is extremely good at what she does….acting!!!!!Who would have ‘thunk’????? Alexis is crushed. I feel soooo badly for her, albeit she knew upon what maelstrom ‘of a pickle’ she was embarking. I suppose love is blind at any age. she is also dressing more tastefully. All in all, I am hooked, Shay….love her. I love her without Julian. And, I do hope he goes away forevermore. But, it would not surprise me one bit if TPTB pull a fast one on us and he goes free. Another scary thought is if somehow Alexis will take him back. What are the chances??
I agree, Shay….I will not lose sleep if Tyler does not return. As you know, I love Nick Stabile; but, at this juncture, considering Ava’s nastiness, I do not want her influence to rub off on him. Then, again, their love of each other, and not of ‘all things evil’ will turn their screwed-up heads around.
I have been litanizing the praises of Victor Alfieri as Valentin….Jeff Webber even, albeit Walt Willey is my top choice for the Jeff role.
I love Archie…I watched a couple of eps. Unfortunately she will not return for the third run.
Funny thing, Shay, I record everything. Getting to watch? Well, that’s a different story….especially during summer months. It seems that with all the siblings I have, the kids all end up at Auntie CeeCee’s. LOL. I do miss POLDARK, though!!!!!
I try to catch up when I go to bed. Now that school is back on, although I have help, getting my son to bed at 8 is a chore. This kid turns into 10 of himself.
Please comment regularly….you’ve been missed, carina. Buon pomeriggio e arrivederci.

Hey there, CeeCeeGirl!!!! Thanks for missing me….I’ve missed you, too! It was just a very weird summer…much too hot and humid for me, so I crawled into my AC-cooled cocoon and didn’t emerge much. I think I’m genetically-incapable of handling those weather conditions….my people came from the cooler climes of Europe…LOL. Anyway, the approach of fall always invigorates and excites me….both in terms of life and programming. I am feeling somewhat more hopeful about GH now….a real housecleaning has been in order for an age, and finally it is happening. More please! I did notice today that Alexis was a bit more covered up in the courtroom….good first step in her wardrobe rehab, but for a successful lawyer, she should at least don a few investment pieces that look really impeccable and pricey…Unlike you, I’m still not hooked on her personal saga….she’s such an unholy mess! I don’t like women who lose it, unless it’s meant for comic relief….exemplified by Heather! Having said that, I would certainly hope that a Julian sex-filled redux is not in the cards for this too often desperate-for-male-companionship character….but then again, who knows??? It’s either going to be back to Jules Baby or a mental breakdown, perhaps fueled by alcohol???? None of those choices sings to me. As for Archie P.? I find her mix of the exotic with British sensibilities an appealing one…I never watched her on the “Good Wife,” so my first exposure to her was on the creepy mini-series, “The Widower,” followed by the second season of “Shetland,” and finally, on “The Fall.” Do you know if she is due for a return to that Scottish mystery show? I really enjoyed the last installment….great drama, breathtaking scenery! In terms of 9/11, although I was not personally acquainted with anyone who suffered a loss on that day, I did later discover that a college friend’s husband who frequently commuted from Pittsburgh to NYC for business was in the air on that fateful morning, and during the initial confusion of the moment, she was terrified that it was his plane that had ended up crashed in that field in Pennsylvania….he’d actually made it safely to Kennedy, but the lack of communication services kept her waiting and worrying until much later that afternoon. Horrible. I cannot imagine being in that position at any age, let alone in my teens, as you were….at least God blessed you with your twin’s presence….I’m sure that mutual comfort helped get you both through those awful hours….thankfully, your immediate family was ultimately spared the tragic circumstances that too many other were not. By the way, I completely understand why the Vineyard regulars don’t appreciate the interruptions that the POTUS visits bring….as a matter of fact, I thought of you and yours when this year’s annual trip commenced. It was quite one thing for the Kennedys—bad mannered as many of them were—to hang out on the island since they owned property there, but with both the Clintons and the current officeholder, there are such massive disruptions that seem unfair to the other long-term residents who paid a pretty penny for their own plot of peace and privacy. Of course, the same can be said for the summer rental interlopers in your beautiful Hamptons….nowhere is free from such distractions anymore. Sigh. Oh, on the subject of distractions….Poldark2 is set to debut stateside on PBS in a few weeks….some of the stations are currently rerunning last season. I shall watch despite the fact that Ross’s scything scene apparently did not do as much for me as it did for you…..the drama is still beautifully done and well written….I’m just suffering from my Downton withdrawals….no matter how many other period pieces I watch, it remains my hands down favorite….I think it’s due to the delightful Dowager Countess and the imperious Lady Mary….I dearly loved them both, as well as the show’s full roster of characters! They brought such a rich blend of stories and personalities to this once-in-a-lifetime viewing experience….but I will keep seeking out all the fine shows the UK has to offer….just not on the constant streaming I utilized this past month….I watched a total of 100’s of various episodes during my heat-induced funk! Not my usual thing at all….but if you can take the time to discover one more program, check out Australia’s “A Place to Call Home.” I initially watched Series 1/2 on PBS, then downloaded the more current seasons. It’s now in its fourth year debut…..what a sweeping epic!…Set in the 1950’s with painstaking detail! A classic soap opera in every sense imaginable…I think you would very much take to it, and your gran probably would, too! Oh well, I best be going…too much off-topic stuff, yet it was a real treat to catch up with you, mia amica. It’s been odd not asking about your kiddos anymore….I try to follow the guidelines for the site, but it’s no surprise to hear that Nico is his usual lively self, and I’m quite sure that Rosie has become quite the little lady since we last discussed her. I will try to comment more frequently….my new phone doesn’t seem to want to cooperate when it comes to posting….my words end up somewhere else on the page in a totally unrelated spot, no matter where I directly respond, so unless I’m on my laptop, I usually just don’t bother, even though I do visit and read the threads with regularity. That’s all….no great reason beyond that simple explanation for my prolonged absences…..or, then again, maybe I just relish being an enigma?????? Hmmmm….. Later!

@Shay.
Hey, Shay,
I have been so out of touch, except for my soaps, LOL., with shows this summer….as most summers.
I think Archie has popped in and out of Primetime shows, here and there. BLINDSPOT is one of them. Other than that, I don’t know. I am looking forward to POLDARK2, though.
LOL. I always manage to watch my soaps…..and, I am still reeling by Sabrina’s death. I know this is what you were waiting for ….lon-time-awaiting…LOL. But, I will miss her.
I do not want Alexis to go off the deep end. She’s suffered enough from her stupid mistake. I mean, coming so close to literally losing her head by Julian’s hand, her ‘loving’ husband, would do a number on any woman. She deserves a little light—sunshine, after the darkness.

Yes, Nico is a handful. He made me do a double-take this morning. A seven-year old with a sarcastic retort is hard to believe, right? Normally, when I chide him, I get an, ” ok Mommy”.
This morning he said, “Yes, Mother”. Ha!! Can’t complain, as I am repeatedly told I was the same way!!LOL. Rosie is the complete opposite.
Believe me, the Hamptons do not get as bad as the Vineyard. Except for complaints over vagrants on the beaches, at night, and THE KARDASHIANS . LOL. After the trash is collected, everything goes back to normal. Most celebrities live here year-round, unlike the above.
The Vineyard is completely isolated in Winter. The summers have become so unbearable, I don’t even enjoy going anymore. Our house is in Katama ( South Beach), not in town ( Edgartown). So, we don’r see that many people. But, it’s a nightmare going into town. The traffic is always at a standstill. We do use our bicycles a lot…LOL.
What can I say? We deplorables must stay in our baskets…..If you have a minute, read comments voiced by Robert Byrd….so enlightening.

I am glad to hear that you do read the comments, anyway, Shay. So you need not be apprised of anything. But, I agree with Soaphound when she talks about ‘house-cleaning’. I just wish it hadn’t been Sabrina.
Anna is coming back, so I hope and pray Jordan will be offed. Well, heck….one more won’t mean much to Paul. Doesn’t he have a bone to pick with her?
What do you think of Hayden and Finn?….. Oops…no need to answer, I just remembered Hayden is, also, on your list of undesirables….LOL. Love you, Shay!!

@Shay.
Oh, Shay,
Lest you, or others get the wrong impression….I was merely being sarcastic about being enlightened by Robert Byrd. His comments are lurid, brutal, bigoted and offensive.
Sometimes, we do not know what goes on behind closed doors with these politicians until someone runs for the highest office.
If we are to vilify one candidate, we must open the can of worms of the other. Keep it at an even keel.
The same could be said about our beloved soaps….politics!!!! Why do characters get killed off while others remain?
It’s one thing if one leaves by his/her own volition….completely different if said protagonist is ‘pushed’ out….politics…..politics….politics.
Ciao.

I don’t think Day’s will make…to far gone and I don’t see it getting back to where it use to be.

Not too far gone for one last shot with good writers..When you tell people there’s ANOTHER baby story on the horizon someone higher up than Corday needs to realize HE’S the problem..sadly the show MOST likely is in it’s last and final reset/reboot and year.

NBC will be the first network in decades to ruin a soapless afternoon..it will be interesting to see how they handle it..our not.

Run not ruin

GH hardly has anything to crow about. It’s absolutely awful right now under the sloppy, lazy and insipid writing of Jelly. Then there’s the oblivious Mr. Valentini, who I’ve lost so much respect for over the past year or so. If anyone is watching this mess, it’s only out of habit and/or morbid curiosity.

Or maybe people are watching GH because not everyone has the same opinion as you, and they actually enjoy the show.

Amen GH1980! We watch GH because WE are fans! Yes, the writing is getting really bad AND there are too many characters BUT Anna will be back soon and I hear Paul will be wiping the show soon of one of its least favorite characters!

Yes we’re watching and the writing is NOT bad. If it was…wouldn’t be watching.

I love your description of Jelly’s writing!

I agree with you about how awful GH is right now. Not one storyline or couple I care about tight now. Shouldn’t storylines connect also.

I’m not watching GH for any reason other than I’m enjoying it. Kudos GH!

I watched a bit more of Days this week, but mostly on Xfinity after the show was aired. There are commercials on that, so it must generate revenue – does that count at keeping Days on the air? Any way, I digress, I watched to see if there were any improvements. Some of it was not too bad, I just notice that I like the parts that are not so dark, gloomy, etc. – I like the more upbeat positive aspects. Example, Sonny (whom I love and glad is back) had a nice conversation with Chad trying to uplift him. They were both good and very realistic and human conversation talking about how to cope after the death of their loved ones. If the show will be more positive, upbeat, uplifting I will watch mor. If it is mean spirited, ugly, dark, vengeful then I lose interest in watching because it pulls me down. I like the more light hearted escape. Of course, others may like to have more going on, and life is full of a variety of emotions, ups and downs, so I understand if they have some sad or down scenes, but not constantly. They often go in this downward spiral where as they should temper that with some positive, upbeat, romantic scenes and not go too deep or ugly all the time then this viewer just tunes out.

DAYS is DOWN in households, share, and all reported demos from last week and last year. They are down in total from all previous years. A very small increase from LAST WEEK puts them just 4,000 above the LOWEST-EVER total of Tomsell’s era (Aug 2012 to Aug 2015). Days has been down in unprecedented dumps since May! (And the catastrophic fall-off began in February!). This year so far has brought Days three record-breaking new lows in totals (in the space of seven weeks). Days has had four record-breaking lows in Women 18-49, at least two record-breaking lows in Women 18-34, and although the ratings system fudges the household records by rounding the figures, in reality Days has also had six record-breaking lows in households this year.

This is just Griffley’s legacy in numbers of viewers. Griffley has left the world of Salem and its characters badly damaged as well.

DAYS of OUR Lives is officially an all new show….

Dena Higley and Ryan Quan… writing team… effective September 6, 2016

and they’re still bff. what dream

I’ve decided I like Claire… as her parents move to Hong Kong… our little starlet , whos in love, with Theo… moves in with grandma.

i’m actually looking forward to the three convicts…. take me Xander

Patrick….you naughty boy, you!! LOL.
Can’t say I blame you.
But, seriously? How convenient is the jail-break? So, Theresa will be swept away, not to be heard of again?
Yes, seeing Kassie was a gift.

Can’t let TMZ beat GH in rating now that they are both on at three PM.
I am happy the soaps are hanging tuff.

Why does it seem likes the episode is getting shorter and shorter what happened to 25 min

Addicted to BandB wish it was longer

I DVR #YR daily…Are DVR recordings included in the ratings? That’s how many of my working friends watch too.. If not I guess ill turn my tele on and leave it lol

That’s not how it works, Jessi. I believe a box is installed in selected homes which records what shows are being watched. The box is then retrieved….and, that’s how they arrive at the numbers’.

This week, DAYS head scribe, Ron Carlivati, confirmed that, and told Michael Fairman TV on the decision of the scripts the team submitted: “I like to have some humor, but it was also the funeral, and then there was Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) giving birth, and then Vivian’s (Louise Sorel) crashing the reading of the will.”

Matthew Ashford and Melissa Reeves Talk Return to DAYS for Doug’s Funeral, Susan Seaforth Hayes, and Their Enduring Friendship

Last week, Days of our Lives celebrated the taping of their 15,000th episode which is tentatively scheduled to air on December 3rd. The story will feature emotional and heart-tugging scenes of Doug Williams funeral and honor his portrayer, the beloved Bill Hayes, who passed away on January 12th at the age of 98.

While the actors, producers, and crew took a lunch time break to pose for some pictures and speak with the press, they knew they would have to get back to taping the funeral, which was going to make it a tough day, but also cathartic for all who loved Bill Hayes.

Several returns have thus far been announced including; Melissa Reeves reprising her signature role of Jennifer Horton (a part she first played in 1985), and Matthew Ashford as Jack Deveraux. Reeves had last appeared on the show back in 2021, and she was replaced by Emmy-winner Cady McClain in her absence when Jennifer was in storylines. In real-life, Melissa had moved full-time to Tennessee along with her husband, Scott Reeves (ex-DAYS, GH, Y&R). Now, and as previously reported, Reeves will first appear back on DAYS for the Thanksgiving episodes with the Hortons.

Michael Fairman TV caught up with Matt and Melissa during the 15,000th episode celebration to get their take on: being back for these special episodes, how it has been working with and watching Susan Seaforth Hayes portray Julie’s grief over losing Doug, and how they have supported each other through the years. Check out what they shared below.

Melissa, you are back on the set of Days of our Lives for this very emotional and special moment in the series history. How does it feel?

MELISSA: Oh, my goodness. I am honored. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else but to be here for Bill. He was like my real-life dance partner. He taught me how to ballroom dance. And to be here for Susan, of course, who’s just been our sweet hero this whole week. We’re just following her lead. She’s just been this incredibly strong example for us in the midst of this trial and season of her life. She is like just lifting us all up with her. It’s been incredible.

I was at Bill Hayes memorial service which was truly incredible and I know at the time you were in Tennessee. It was moving and celebratory of his life, all at the same time.

MELISSA: That’s all I have heard. I have to watch it on You Tube. They said it was just a real celebration of his life and I love that.

Photo: JPI

This must be difficult for Susan Seaforth Hayes depicting the death of Doug, when she is still grieving the loss of her beloved husband. (Susan pictured above with the returning Stephen Schnetzer who plays her on-screen brother, Steve Olson).

MELISSA: I’m sure Susan has those moments at home by herself, but she’s so good at being a leader and leading all of us. We’re following her, you know, and she’s like, “This is how I want to feel today.” And we’re just going along with her, you know? It’s so sweet.

Photo: JPI

How is it to see Matt Ashford again live and in-person?

MELISSA: You know, Matt and I can go years without talking, or seeing each other, and then the minute we see each other we’re chatting away.

MATT: Melissa was out on set doing a scene yesterday on the phone talking to a stage manager; as she was telling some really tough news on the phone. I’m like crying in the background, literally, I’m off-stage crying.

MELISSA: And then we get like back into normal life, and we’re like, okay, “What’s happening? What’s happening with this … or what’s happening with that?”

I had read, Melissa, that you were in touch with Matt about if there night be a possibility for you to reprise your role as Jennifer for these special episodes?

MELISSA: Yes. Well, Matt was like, “Hey! Would you want to come back? “And I was like, “Matt, you know, I would always come back. ”

MATT:  Every time I come here to Days of our Lives, they ask, “Where’s Missy? How’s Missy?” Everybody backstage says, “I miss her.” All of the crew is asking about her and saying, “It would be nice to see Missy. Nothing wrong with you Matt, but …”  They said, “Where is she?” I said, “She wants to come!”

Photo: JPI

There are some beautiful photos of Missy and Bill and Susan thorough the years that I found. It just reminded me of just the deep and entrenched history we all have had with the show, personally and professionally.

MATT: Missy is roughly the age where Francis Reid (ex-Alice Horton) was when she started the show, which is just crazy.

Photo: JPI

I’ve always said Missy was going to be the next generation Alice. Do you feel that Jennifer is the heir apparent matriarch of the Horton family?

MELISSA: Yes. I mean, this has been greatest blessing of my life, and that would be great. I told Ken Corday (executive producer, Days of our Lives) when I was 17 that this show would be my life. Ken always told me, “This is your home,” and I’ve always felt like that.

How have gotten through the scenes watching Susan Seaforth Hayes as Julie go through the loss of Doug?

MATT: Susan is bringing her best performance life for her and Bill. I mean, she’s a showbiz baby. She always has been one hundred percent, and she’s doing it for him, and this is who they’ve always been. So, you’re seeing this amazing performance colored by her life. She has her private life as Susan, but she has enough plugged into Julie that she’s done amazing work. The director, producers and writers are giving her room to live in these moments and it’s quite wonderful.

Photo: JPI

Have you already broken down in tears during the taping?

MELISSA: Yesterday, but today’s taping of the actual funeral I think they want us to try and be just more celebratory.

MATT: I mean, it is a beautiful long life for Bill Hayes and his character of Doug Williams, and so it will be about that. Then, you get a bunch of us together in the church pews, and there’s going to be hijinks.

MELISSA: We all have been through the waves of grief. You have that awful cry and then all of a sudden you feel okay.  There are those family situations we are portraying where you’re like, “What do we do? What do we do now? You know, no one knows what to do. But, it’s so sweet. I’m looking forward to seeing how the scenes all turn out.

So, are you glad that Matt and Melissa are back for the 15K episode and Doug’s funeral? From what we can tell, it’s going to be quite an emotional journey for Days of our Lives fans, and especially the performance of Susan Seaforth Hayes,

Ron Carlivati Talks on Decision to Make Days of our Lives 15000th Episode About Doug’s Funeral, and Previews Chances for WGA Award

This week, Days of our Lives celebrated the taping of their 15,000th episode. In of it itself, that is an incredible accomplishment for the long-running soap opera currently streaming on Peacock.

However, this on set gathering was a bit different. Though the show is celebrating their achievement, they are also in the middle of taping scenes surrounding the death and the funeral of Doug Williams, played by the late Bill Hayes, who passed away on January 12th of this year at the age of 98.

As previously revealed many longtime favorites are back to honor Bill and the character of Doug including: Gloria Loring (Liz), Melissa Reeves (Jennifer), Matthew Ashford (Jack), Maree Cheatham (Marie), Victoria Konefal (Ciara) and Stephen Schnetzer (Steve) to name but a few.

Photo: JPI

Michael Fairman TV was in attendance and spoke with Days of our Lives head writer, Ron Carlivati to gain some insight into how the 15,000 episode was crafted and the decision to honor the character of Doug Williams and Bill Hayes as its epicenter. In addition, Ron weighed-in on this Sunday’s April 14th WGA (Writers Guild of America) Awards, where he and his writing team are facing off with General Hospital for the daytime drama prize. Here’s what Ron shared below.

Was this your idea to make the 15,000th episode centered around Doug’s funeral and passing?

RON: It was. When you’re looking at it, and laying out the calendar for the whole year and you see 15,000 is coming up, we’re like, “What are we going to do?” And then, we got the news that Bill had passed away and something kind of clicked. I was like, “We should honor Doug on that show.” So then, we started to kind of build around that … when does he pass away? How does he pass away? Who could come back? You know, it’s a lot.  I’m very pleased with the returns that we got as there’s so much that you could do. We wanted everybody we could get. So, we put together a wish list and Janet Drucker (co-executive producer, Days of our Lives) made it happen.

Photo: JPI

You have Melissa Reeves back as Jennifer, when the role was last played by Cady McClain. What has it meant to have Missy back for these shows?

RON: It was so nice to see Missy Reeves. I think Cady has done such a good job, but on the 15,000th episode to see Missy as Jennifer, it’s a big deal. So having her was great, and overall, the milestone was a big undertaking, because you want to live up to it. You want the 15,000th episode to be good. Now, it has a lot of real emotion that you’re playing. because for the cast and the crew they’re honoring Bill Hayes just as much as we’re honoring Doug Williams.

Photo: JPI

Was it hard for you and the team to write this episode?

RON: Yes. I’ll tell you why it was hard to write.  When I wrote, for example, Asa’s (Phillip Carey) death on One Life to Live or Victor’s (John Aniston) on DAYS, Asa is a different type of character. Like, you could have characters going, “Oh! I’m glad he is dead.” You could have different points of view, but with Doug, you’re not having that. Every person loves this man. No one had a bad relationship with him. So, you’re challenge as a writer is how do you make it that not everybody’s saying the same thing and doing the same thing. And so, we tried to find ways to make the episode about all the familial relationships and yet, how do you make it about Doug and yet broaden the scope.

Photo: JPI

I had spoken to Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie), a week after Bill’s memorial, for an interview. She said that she felt very fortunate that you did include her on discussions of how you would tackle Doug’s passing. How did that conversation go?

RON: First, I attended Bill’s funeral, which was incredible. I said to so many people it was an emotional service, but it was hard to be sad at this. The guy had an incredible life and it was an incredible celebration. And so, you’re sitting there watching this knowing that you now have to write something similar. And how do you write something that lives up to what you just witnessed? I wanted to talk to Susan to get her thoughts about, you know, how much do you want this to be about keeping Bill separate from Doug. How comfortable are you sharing your grief. She was incredible to talk to. It was a great chat.

You’re in the middle of taping these major scenes for the 15,000 episode to air in December. How do you think it’s going? Have you seen any of the scenes?

RON:  I haven’t seeing anything. I mean, we were still making changes to the script up till this morning!

Photo: JPI

The Writers Guild Awards are this Sunday, April 14th and once again this year there are two daytime drama nominees, General Hospital and Days of our Lives. How are you feeling about your chances this year?

RON: It is often just GH and us in the category. I’ve won three years in a row, so I’m kind of feeling like it’s their turn.

Photo: JPI

What episodes did you submit for contention? If I recall, they had to do with Victor’s memorial.

RON: The episodes we submitted were centered around Victor’s funeral. I think one has story with Vivian (Louise Sorel). We had some fun stuff, we had some emotional stuff at Victor’s death, and I am pretty sure that our submission was three episodes right around that time.

Did you make the decision to go with those episodes because there was a mix of humor and drama?

RON: I like to have some humor, but it was also the funeral, then there’s Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) giving birth, and then Vivian’s crashing the reading of the will. So, we had a lot of fun and it’s hard sometimes to pick three that tell a story, as opposed to submitting for the Daytime Emmys, where the writing team only submits two shows. So, we shall see how it goes on Sunday.
