REPORT: Kassie DePaiva OUT At Days of our Lives!

Kassie DePaiva’s name has been in the headlines on many soap sites over the last few days, after Serial Scoop posted an item that the fan favorite actress was leaving Days of our Lives, ending her run as Eve Donovan.

The actress who previously played Blair Cramer on One Life to Live for more than 20 years, and on General Hospital for a stint, as well as Guiding Light’s Chelsea Reardon, took over the role of the troubled and vengeful Eve on-screen back in June of 2014.  Then DAYS head writing regime of Gary Tomlin and Christopher Whitesell chose DePaiva to be the recast in the role, originally played by Charlotte Ross back in the late 80’s into the early 90’s.

At this time both DePaiva and DAYS had not confirmed her exit from the soap about to turn 50 years old in November.  Sadly, Kassie was finally given some meaty material to play with the murder of her on-screen daughter Paige Larson (True O’Brien) as Eve began her grieving process.  Things are also about to perk up for DePaiva on-screen with the arrival next week of Eduardo played by A Martinez, who will play Eve’s ex.

DePaiva’s departure has not been confirmed by the NBC soap opera.   Nor has a time frame been given as to when to expect her exit on screen, but from the looks of it, since DAYS tapes six months in advance, she would be airing into the new year.

Due to On-Air On-Soaps long-standing relationship with the actress, you can be sure that when, and if the time is right, and the opportunity presents itself, we will pass along additional details.

So, what do you think of a DePaiva exit?  What do you think about all the recently posted exits from DAYS?  Are the changes being made for the better, or for the worse?  Was it the right move by the powers-that-be to get rid of Kassie, just as her on-air story was getting good?  Share your thoughts below!

yes it was past due. I never was her fan. Plus that dang moaning music.

your response makes absolutely no sense and is irrelevant.

Thank you! That “moaning music” drove me crazy too!!!!

Oh, that “moaning music” was just beyond…odd and creepy. Love KDP, though. Very talented.

Yes, I agree.. the worst ever soap music ever… lol.. Ithought I was the only one that thought it was baadddd…..

I could never put a word on that music. I always thought it was sort of subliminal, you know? But, “moaning” is perfect.

Uh yeah, the music really matters when DAYS just lost an AMAZING ACTRESS?

Beautiful and talented Kassie. No one could have played Eve, the grieving mother better. I never remember crying so much or be moved by a scene on a soap as I did with this one. I wanted to reach out and hold Eve…comfort her. What a loss for Days.

Kassie is amazing. She’s not only a great actress, she’s also a sweet kind person who is well-loved by her co-workers at every stop.

For me, this means the end of my time with Days. I didn’t care for her story at all with Casey Moss, and I feel she was just getting into the good stuff with other adult characters.

Many had praised Days for the casting choice; now….I’m not in favor of a few recent decisions around casting.

I disagree with this story turn. Kassie DePaiva — who I loved on OLTL — is one of those actresses on which you build. Eve seems to be a strong character with rich history to propel new stories. A bit of a vixen in a genuine everyday sense, not a disturbed villain a la Kristen, or some over-the-top scenery-chewer we see every so often on CBS. Actress and character could and should have a long run.

I totally agree. Kassie DePaiva is extremely talent and has a tremendous range of what she can play. There are so many stories that could be told with Eve. I am very upset about this decision.

How eloquently put, Iakovos. A well-rounded actress who is to be praised and appreciated. A true talent; versatile and on cue.

Totally agree. Terribly disappointing. She spun $#!t writing into gold.

really nice posts

i’m back in shell shocked mode

Kassie DePaiva let go?

ridiculously bad move

YES!

I like her. I never watched her in anything before but the raves when she was hired for DOOL put her on a pedestal that only a figment of one’s imagination could attain. The writers ruined the character of Eve in such a way that even Charlotte Ross would have a hard time overcoming. Kassie did a wonderful job of portraying a mother’s grief but it was too late to turn the ire of fans. I believe these writers could write her the way she should be written but if they are responding to viewers she will be gone.

Yes Charolette may have had trouble overcoming it, but Kassie did not. She turned that whole mess into amazing stuff that had even her staunch dislikers clamoring for more. BIG MISTAKE letting her go from the canvas.

Well the DOOL groups that I belong to were very negative about her from the first moment she appeared…..too old was the major beef. I guess they felt time should have stood still. Charlotte has aged as well but I guess we will never get to see what she would have done with the crappy writing. The difference would have been that Charlotte knew Eve, Kassie did not.

I think that Tomlin and Whitesell messed up with their version of Eve. I don’t blame Kassie at all. She is acting out what she is given. I think the new writers could have turned it around and made it work if they wanted to. But with Paige being murdered and no lover interest, I guess they figured she was dead weight.

Well, I thought she did some exceptional emotive acting when she had to be with Paige in the morgue. Maybe her contract was just for a year – I don’t care for the way Days of Our Lives just changed horses in mid stream and left certain characters adrift while they are concentrating on the older veterans.
If the so called executives at ABC-TV had half a brain they would have regrouped the original One Life to Live with All My Children and combined the strongest characters from both shows into one hot soap. But, since that makes sense it most likely won’t occur. I am certain that Kassie will be picked up by another soap in the near future.

OLTL 4AMC GR8 idea. it can replace DRABLife …

Many long term fans of OLTL and AMC, including me, have been saying this all along. Too bad the powers that be at the alphabet network aren’t bright enough to take the hint.

Bring back Charlotte Ross as the real Eve. It’s time. I will always associate Charlotte’s incredible performance as Eve Donovan – vulnerable and yet tough – as the trendsetter for characters like Kendall Hart and Carly Corinthos. Hell, the entire Eve & Nick relationship was copied by GH with Carly & Sonny years later. Charlotte’s Eve was the prototype for Alison Sweeney’s Sami, no question about that. I associate some of Days’ best years with Charlotte Ross. She so wanted to return to the role but negotiations broke down and Kassie was cast. Please let now be the time for Char to come back and show us again why EVE was one of the greatest characters in the history of Days.

I love reading people’ posts. NICE!

THIS is one of the best

Charlotte Ross was so naturally sexy; so naturally sexual; so at ease with her prowess; so in command

well… LOL.. that’s how I see her : her acting talent carried

have to give prop to Kassie DePaiva : Eve’ character, when last on… was, (1987-1991) so this would make Eve’ 24 years older

OH… i’m bereft and pissed at TPTB for not turning this character around and putting her with the leading ladies and leading men…. they wasted her with Jennifer, Abs, Paige, and JJ… the latter being stellar and stood on his own merit.

Patrick she was on Guiding Light until 1991 so isn’t she about the same age as the other actress then?

I guess i just wanted to point out… and should have.. that the comparison between KD and Charlotte Ross… were not unwarranted… but to no avail

she’s being let go… and it’s a loss that DAYS doesn’t have in their ready arsenal…

this lady drives on all cylinder and is of the highest caliber

the scripts were not their from the get go… and the comparison didn’t really matter in the long run

Kassie DePaiva is a seasoned beloved veteran that should be lauded and received

she certainly is by the audience

i’m venting

She was always wrong for the role. Hope she finds something that suits her talents.

Monica, just HOW was she wrong for this role?
Was she too talented for your taste?
She reached down inside herself for the gutterall maternal grief instinct and she found it.

Oh please, KDP is great, but miscast as Eve. If you remembered Charlotte Ross as the original Eve you’d understand.

Kassie is killing it, but the old writers never wrote her as the true Eve. Maybe we’ll see the return of Kassie or Charlotte.

I agree with you.. wrong for that role….

Kassie was fabulous as Blair Cramer on OLTL. I started watching DOOL again when I found out she would be on. Her character was given such a ridiculous story-line (high school-type revenge on Jennifer; the absurd affair with JJ), but she played it well. Kassie really knocked it out of the park with Eve’s reaction to Paige’s death.

If she is really leaving Days, perhaps she can go to GH and reunite with Roger Howarth!

Oh sadie, you’re so right about watching for her…I did too. And that Roger H. comment, watch out! LOL! Some haters won’t like that one, but I would enjoy seeing her working again. And I agree, she’s great great great.

Ahhh, Blair…I miss her so…I miss all of them. Your comment just brought a wave of nostalgia through my essence, Sadie. I loved OLTL and AMC to pieces.

It’s a major acting loss, but not a major character loss. Too bad Eve was written so poorly when she arrived – Kassie did all she could. I would welcome her on General Hospital as a new character.

Great point there Mister Media, major acting loss but not major character loss. Spot on!

This show has a bad habit of doing poor recasts lately. I loved Kassie on OLTL but she did not fit in this role. It did not suit the type of actress that she is and the material she had was BAD. Eve VS Jennifer was OVER in the 80’s. They should have let it stay over.

If they wanted to do a rivalry b/w those two, they really needed to have Frankie back on screen. Just my thoughts.

I loved her in OLTL. They need to change her character a little and make her a singer. She is a good singer. They made mistake by ruining her voice early .
They will lose a talented actress.

She found her footing and was pulling out all the stops playing a grieving mother.
She was so good she didn’t seem like she was acting.
Kassie is the reason WHY I tunned into Days in first place.
Now, I am going to take my toys and go home.
Bad move, huge mistake–huge.

“…Bad move, huge mistake–huge ”

so many spot on posts

this is “a huge” loss and let … that boggles ….. ???? what on earth are they thinking? she’s a commanding presence… that did not have script

it dumbfounds me that they would let an actress of this caliber loose

all the posts state as much…. just shaking my head… and posting some thing

this is going to take a long while to get over… I so wanted Eve to move on… without Jennifer… JJ… and Abs… it was so obvious, from the get go, they were simply not in KD’ league of her own

DAYS isn’t reinventing the wheel so to speak… by letting go newbies

Blake Berris: Nick
Daniel Cosgrove: Aiden
Freddie Smith: Sonny
Kassie DePaiva: Eve

Blake and Freddie, both left on their own accord…

that being said… these 4 characters riveted and brought magic to DAYS

Justin was HOT with
Rafe could have been HOT with
Eduardo won’t be given a chance (A. Martinez)
heck… pairing her with Greg Vaughan’ Eric is so much more interesting than Nicole

I wasn’t real thrilled with this actress. It never gelled. However as Paige’s mother she was believable. I was hoping she would gas light Jennifer but it looks like they have dropped that idea. Her grieving was believable and wretching. I thought she and Justin might become a couple. Hope sh apologizes to Jennifer before she leaves.

It makes sense that DAYS would let go of pure talent. Kassie DePaiva is such an under appreciated actress. Her scenes when her and Paige had their falling out were flawless and when she found out that Paige had been murdered were beyond the pale. She tore the scenery up. She was a human being coming to terms with all her faults and the loss itself. There is no other Kassie. DAYS right now is moving along much better in the flow of things but I hate them focusing on the snoozefests that are Kayla and Patch and Marlena and John. They have so little depth or range. Marlena is always the same in EVERY scene. She has had so much botox you can’t tell when she’s happy or sad. The character of John Black belongs in a 1970’s porn set. He is one of the worst actors in daytime. The only reason he is still around is because so many women think he is deep and intense. I find him a snooze. Patch is the worst written character in daytime. Lose the patch on the eye, this isn’t Pirates of the Caribbean. If the character is blind have him have some plastic surgery, we have advanced medically so I am sure something can be done. This isn’t 1976 and the disco dance floor has since emptied. Kayla is a great actress. I like her overall but her character is way too one dimensional. Give her something to bite into that doesn’t involve her pining away for some old time adventure seeker. She deserves so much more. I hope that it’s not true about Kassie DePaiva. If they have to get rid of an actress send Jennifer away on some cruise ship to an abandoned island and let her never return. Oh I know I am gonna hear from the old guard of DAYS fans and before you accuse me of being some teenager let me just say that I have been watching DAYS for as long as most of you. You can’t turn back the clock. Marlena and John should be talking about choosing a good doctor on their Medi-care plans and not searching for John’s long lost family. You’re in your 60’s now dude, you ain’t gonna see Mommy and Daddy ever again, they are dead and gone so let it go. Marlena you should be looking into 401K plans and thinking about where you want to travel after you close your practice for retirement.

Mateo, are you sitting down? Because this is the first time I totally agree with you.
Great comment–well done and thank you.

I agree with you about John and Marlena… he can keep all his promises… and the love ever after and future bliss… just does not excite and bring any interest in either or.

Melissa Reeves’ is dead ? bring it on! Jennifer Horton is a useless character for the Horton legacy…

Eric, Brady, Daniel, and Nicole… “have not” changed at all… with the new writing team… still blah… and not going anywhere… still the same ole same ole

do we really care that Nicole is going to be fiesty and fired up with Theresa over basic black?

dang it! I love Lauren Koslow’ Kate… her scenes with Theresa in the park… discussing partnering up for basic black was hot… she’s a dream

the above mentioned… i realize will take a lot of time.. to bring interest back… so I’ll leave off here…

just saying… Kassie DePaiva… acted top draw and top tiered her acting well over MOST ALL the cast.

what a waste and big dissapointment

this one actor being let go… will not be easily forgotten… what a diss to the audience

WOW spot on I totally agree – for a while there, they were actually moving into the 21st century with Will and sonny and Derrick and Paul – and now they have deferred to these archaic characters of many years gone by. I think (I have only been watching less than two years) that “Patch” and Kayla are about as interesting as day old bread. Marlena and John need to grow up and act their age, and while I respect the actors portraying them they don’t turn in very compelling performances. The new writing team doesn’t seem to give a hoot about the gay characters and seems to be concentrating on drudging up the past. Okay, I have consideration for long-time viewers who remember these storylines but geez, move on already…and I agree that Kassie DePaiva was at least an interesting addition and turned in some incredible acting performances….much better than the very “wooden” acting of some of the regular players.

I have begun to watch Days again after a more than 20-year absence from it. It is such a refreshing change of pace from GH to see that Days really does have thoughtful, well thought-out, well-paced scenes and characters–not caricatures–I can relate to, among them, prominently, Patch and Kayla again.
Days also has something else going for it–a real, flesh and blood scary character by name of Clyde underplayed so very beautifully by a veteran actor who played in North and South, James Reed. He is complex and very, very sinister–and I really am eager to follow the suspense of the story. I really care how it plays out. At Days, not everyone is evil and I can really root for characters and hope the evil ones get found out. That’s a good story–something that has been missing from GH for a very long time.
I do like seeing Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes hasn’t changed a bit–go Susan, a great exemplar for us “of a certain age”–remember, as I have said before, we still are capable of great passion and great feelings–we aren’t “dead” by a long shot!) and all the other familiar characters I watched in the 60s, 70s, and 80s.
Days has great momentum right now, and I’m so very glad I “found” it again–and found all my beloved characters to root for again. Goodbye, GH; nice to have known you in your heyday, the era of (Tony Geary, don’t read this) Luke and Laura and all the great families and characters of that era.
Come on, Days, strut your stuff–and here’s hoping for a great 50th anniversary show (unilke GH). BTW, Days IS showing all the flashbacks that we love to see! Thanks, Days, for restoring my faith in daytime drama.

And I just read Michael Fairman’s tweet about the uptick in Days’ ratings. What is that old adage? Give the people what they want and they will come. So simple!

Totally agree, Nancy! I barely watch GH any more, they are focusing too much on the mob and mobster families. But DAYS – it is must-see TV for me again, and it hasn’t been for a long time. I was excited when they had the “reboot” 4 years ago, but that excitement didn’t last. They didn’t give these wonderful characters great story lines! (except for Jack with his PTSD, that could have gone somewhere, but didn’t). I love all the great couples of DAYS, they were so epic! Over-the-top romance, even more so than GH in the ’80s. And I am so glad to see DAYS honoring those great Supercouples, giving them flashbacks, leading up to romantic reunions .. instead of what GH did, bringing back Frisco so Felicia could dump him for Mac & Mr. Marbles, and then have Frisco desert his daughter yet again. And of course, the Supercouple that “shall not be named” because we’ve whined about them enough, LOL. GH had me all excited for its 50th, and, although all the returns were wonderful, it ultimately disappointed. Here’s hoping DAYS gives the audience what it wants! Adventure, romance, heartwarming family moments.

What you said about Kassie is spot on.

Awwww. At the same time, I am glad Kassie will not be playing such an unrewarding role. Avery should be brought back to Y&R played by none other than Kassie. Gina and she were Kramer cousins on OLTl, so, how grand would that be???!!!
What about GH? A mystery-woman from Sonny’s past…Sabrina’s or Rosalie’s mother in the form of Kassie.

Oh dear, CeeCee! What about GH? No mas, no mas….Port Charles cannot absorb any more soap refugees! We’ve already had so many migrate there that the show is suffering an identity crisis! The only exception for a Days cast-off that I would be willing to consider is the mysterious “Necktie Killer.” His (her?) skills could definitely be put to good use on the GH canvas, as a culling of the herd is absolutely required at this point!

Hiiiii, Shay, myGirl!!!!
So glad to hear from you.!! Yeah, I guess there are enough characters, newbies or otherwise, to keep track of all the nonsense going on. Did you check Ava out…WOW.!!!
I wasn’t aware you watched Days….read on, mia bell’amica. It seems I am being followed…WHAM!! A random comment out of the blue sky, I have the honor of having been selected to be slammed….for no apparent reason, by a new Days’ fan. So transparent.
So, have you been watching GH? I haven’t checked the site. Some crazy stuff…..
Love the phraseology…” Culling of the herd” is right….later, Shay.

Well, if I told you, CeeCeeGirl, I’d most likely be moderated again! Talk about self-defeating behavior…LOL. Suffice to say, my comments agreed with your observations regarding your Bo sentiments, et al, plus I simply explained that I watched Days for a few years in the ’80’s when Thaao P. first appeared and expounded upon that. I also opined that I thought Paul Hornsby was the one behind all the recent mob chaos in Port Charles, which actually just came to light, and oh yes, I did make comment on the NLG thread and her latest round of running off at the mouth on Twitter, but surprise, surprise, that one didn’t make it online either! It was QUITE pointed! Unlike you, I don’t really separate the actress from the GH character any longer, because to me, they have morphed into one and the same….never a good thing, and quite frankly, I have no use for either of them! However, I did re-post my commentary under one of your remarks there, so I do hope that at the least you shall be able to read my thoughts in your inbox if they fail to appear online. You will probably not agree with them in totality, but that’s more than fine….I’m not one to seek unanimity in thought. How boring would that be???? And by the way, I did see your response to Dylan and his command of the English language….well put, but as far as “hence” goes and the proper placement of a comma after it???? I checked this out, and there seems to be divided views upon that subject….as is unfortunately the case on so many finer points of the English language these days. I had very old school English/literature teachers in my grammar and secondary education, and they pretty much always said yes to commas. Later, in college, there often seemed to be a much more lax attitude when it came to such matters, which actually drove me crazy, but that simply seems to be the way of most rules of writing these days…..it’s a generational thing. As for “none”….right you are. I generally get that one correct unless I write in haste and have a plural word following the “none.” I always try to catch myself, but sometimes it does escape me and when I see it later, I go nuts. Sadly, the standards for proper grammar and punctuation have gone seriously downhill even amongst academia, and it can be very confusing…I try to stay as formal as possible, but that frequently doesn’t fly if you have any one else editing you….especially in journalism. At any rate, I always enjoy your constructive comments, so if anything else jumps out at you, let me know. (I also tend to proofread other posts, so I know exactly from where you are coming….) I shall not be offended. Lastly, I did answer your older remarks on music….don’t know if that ever made it to you. I’ve really lost count of how many responses have been lost, especially over the past few weeks. Fingers crossed you will receive this one! Later, Girl!

Well, CeeCeeGirl, I now have the honor of being moderated TWICE at a Days thread….first (and second) time for everything! Sorry….I truly tried to reply….and even re-posted. I can only hope you personally received my response(s.)

Sorry to say, ShayShay, I have nothing in my inbox from you. What did you do this time?. Kidding!!! Can’t be worse than mine. I was actually shocked not to have seen any comment from you on the Nancy Grahn/twitter backlash. I would love to hear what you have to say.
I can’t really say she said anything so bad….contrary to someone’s belief, I CAN separate the character from the actress. Soon, Girl.

I had grown to accept her in the role. She is a lovely person. I don’t think the writers did her any favors. Not sure she was right for it from the beginning. Don’t really understand some of Days casting decisions. Make that a lot.

I have to agree with most of the posts here. Kassie DePaiva is a tremendous actress, but she was miscast from the start. Still, if the writing had been there for her, she might have survived longer on the show. The problem was, she was isolated in the same awful storyline from the moment she started. Eve was all about Paige to an unhealthy degree. She interacted with Paige, JJ, Jennifer and Theresa, which wasn’t enough for her character to grow and develop. Only recently did they start to broaden her interactions with characters like Justin and Rafe, and when you put a veteran actress like Kassie with other vets in settings that didn’t involve Eve’s obsession with her daughter and her daughter’s boyfriend, you could see that Kassie could have fit in very well on DOOL, if only someone had cared enough to write her with more depth and potential. It’s the same thing with the writing for John and Marlena now–all a HW needed to do was focus on building them up, rather than ignoring them or keeping them apart, and so much damage (and boredom) would have been avoided. It all seems so simple now, looking back. I wish Kassie well in the future. She’s a classy lady and a talented actress, but I don’t think her version of Eve can be salvaged at this point.

I think Kassie is fantastic. DOOL is the first soap I’ve watched that she’s been on. The writing of the Eve character was never right. They made her disgusting, insane, and downright evil at times. DePaiva should hold her head high and know she gave the best performance she could in such a ill-conceived role that was terribly mistreated by the writers. I look forward to seeing what she does next.

i hope she comes back to GH 🙂

Excellent news! Horrible Eve recast! I dont care who she played on other shows, she was never right for this one & certainly NOT as Eve Donovan!

I think she was a great recast and she is a great actress but this story just never clicked with me. I loved her so much as Chelsea on Guiding Light!

Kassie is a devoted to the craft actress. She deserves a role that that appreciates her.

Kassie has always been miscast…she took over Blaire role from an Asian actress; that was super weird and never dropped her southern accent. Her best role was on GL. She was miscast as Eve as well in addition to the uninspired story. She should have been a DiMera or related to Kate. She was never right as Eve; but a very solid actress and sorry she lost her job! Create a new role for her on BB or YR. I could see her going up against Dinah er. ..I mean Kelly….er I mean Phil….

love Kassie from GL OLTL Days hell of a actress & singer

Ridiculous move on Days’ behalf. They let go of one of the best actresses on daytime and I can only hope they realize what a terrible move they’ve made. Eve was a rich character and Kassie certainly made her KILL IT in every scene. Sad time to be a Days fan.

Bringing back Eve had major potential, especially with Theresa and the now-connecting between her and Justin, but the writing simply was not there for the character and the timing was mis-placed in her return. As that, Kassie was miscast in the role and would have been better suited as a new character instead. I’m sure her career will open other doors and she’ll find another acting gig or even focus on her music, and I wish her the best in her future.

Does this mean Paige was Rafes half sister? i believe A Martinez is also playing Rafes Daddy so did Eduordo break up with Rafes mom for Eve…there could be a lot of angst between father and son if its true…i was just getting into Kassie as Eve but if she leaves i wont loose any sleep!

That’s the same question I asked on the Eduardo site, Jimmy. So, I guess so. Is Paige really dead?

I will most likely be leaving DAYS when KDP leaves.

After OLTL was canceled I went looking for another soap. I tried Y&R. It was ok until Pratt took over and made it a cartoon. I quit that show in March. I also watched DAYS when Kristen drugged Eric, then really enjoyed Sami’s revenge on EJ. When KDP was signed onto DAYS it cemented DAYS as my new soap. She is an amazing actress and gives it her all every time. I thought DAYs was a solid, if a little slow, soap.
I liked Sonny and Will, Adrienne and Lucas, loved Teresa and I even liked Serena even if her story was dull as dishwater.

However, the new writers are dumping all the characters I like, bringing back old time characters I know nothing about and soon will fill the show with teenage angst. I had a feeling this would happen because Dena Higley nearly destroyed OLTL when she was writing it. However, Josh Griffith was a good writer on OLTL so I had some hope. No more

When KDP leaves I will be soap-free for the first time. I can’t watch the Y&R mess, have always hated GH and have no interest in the fashion-centered B&B. More time to do other things!

I miss OLTL. 🙁

I agree on so many points…..

shes an AMAZING ACTRESS AND GREAT RE-cast SOOOOO STUPID!!
I mean he entire cast is Deminishing…I may be going away too. WALLY GO BACK TO GH PLEASSSSSE

DOOL should be writing gangs of stories around Kasssie as sure is PURE TALENT

Bad story lines from the very beginning I enjoyed her on OLTL then as Blair
It’s unfortunate that I won’t miss her one bit – a definite to bring back Eve (Charlotte Ross)
Kassie played the role well – –

Mr. Valenti, could you please hire Kassie BACK on GH and cast her as Hayden’s older sister?

@Timmm….Please refer to my reply to CeeCee….(If it makes it to post, that is!)

I know, I know! I guess I’m just looking at another talented daytime actor who needs work! But seriously though, wouldnt you rather have her on instead of Lulu, Sabrina, Valerie, Maxie and Liz? “Necktie Killer” may be copyrighted? How about the “Prospect Park Killer!” See ya Freako and Kookie!

Stupid move, if so. You don’t squander talent like Kassie DePaiva. It just doesn’t come around that often.

REPEAT ! Days / Sony / NBC

“You don’t squander talent like Kassie DePaiva ”

absolutely !

you can write up and press all the changes… but one bad move.. and the queen exits?

we are not pawns in this move

it’s a consequence that could stumble and have repercussion

All the soap stars that were on AMC and OLTL are missed and it sucks that we don’t get to enjoy watching them. I can’t watch them on anothet soap because I only see them as the characters I watched for years and will now miss forever

Has anyone else noticed that GH seems to be avoiding hiring any actors that were part of the Prospect Park versions of AMC and OLTL,even as brand new characters?

I knew with bringing so many vets back, someone was going to go. I like Kassie but always thought Julie Pinson would have been a better recast…. especially if they could have brought Frankie back. And they missed a great opportunity to have Eve having a child with Frankie that he didn’t know about. Just my thoughts!

I like Kassie, and she is a strong actress. Although I never watched OLTL that much whenever I did see her, she seemed great in her role and well suited for the show. For some reason, on Days, I never felt that her character fit in that well (eventhough I hear Eve was part of the show before). It may have been the way they wrote her part and the storyline. I did not see her scene at the morgue, but as she is a good actress I am sure it was good. I think she needed a meatier part instead of just being involved with JJ, and couped up in the apartment so much of the time (whenever I saw her). She is very talented and needs much more.

I cant believe they would take her off of days I love her on Days and One Life please keep her.

Soaps are desperate and in desperate times, they do dumb things and this was dumb. It shouldn’t surprise me, because they did the same with another talented actress from OLTL, Melissa Archer. So much story could have been written for these two. Days better get it together. Bringing back Reckell and aging the toddlers, ain’t gonna do it. I want the show to succeed, but Corday may kill it, in his desperation to save it.

And just when I was beginning to enjoy Blair and Ned together…

Having watched DePaiva throughout most of her tenure on OLTL, I was ecstatic when she joined DOOL. I thought she did a great job in the role. She clearly had chemistry with her costars, particularly Casey Moss. So maybe her character wasn’t always sympathetic. Eve was a great foil for the prissy, self-righteous Jennifer. Now who is going to put Jennifer in her place?!?!

One of the other shows should grab this great actress.

I just started watching Days and love Depaiva from OLTL. Hate to see her go, she is such a good actress .

Disturbing that all the long time characters are being killed off. It’s one thing to write them out for a possible return, but killing them off is a bit final. Soon there will be no familiar faces when we tune in and I’m losing interest. There has to be a happy medium in the transition from the old writers to the new and not just writing a completely new Soap. I hope The Days Soap is not numbered.

I would be happy if she left now. I do NOT LIKE what they did to JJ and Page almost stopped watching. I want her to leave JJ and Jennifer alone and just go accept her big mouth got her daughter killed. She can leave now.

last night, I finished, last Friday ( 9/11 ) ep:

where Kassie is calling Marlena for help… and breaks down

heart wrenching
gut wrenching

GREAT ACTING
believe ability factor
great presence

what do you say , knowing her exit

This is horrible news. Kassie is a phenomenal actress with loads of talent, and Eve is a very interesting, complex character. Some say she was miscast, but if the writing was worthy of her talent and she was given a good story, that wouldn’t be the case.

The true problem here is that Eve was thrust into a ridiculous love triangle with Paige and J.J., two of the most boring characters ever, and before that, had a ridiculous vendetta against Jennifer to settle. Bad writing, bad stories…

With Paige’s death, there was serious potential for improvement with Eve, redeeming the character and steering the ship in the right direction. But instead, the new writers are choosing to scrap her all together.

Then again, DAYS has a monumental history of wasting great talent. Sarah Brown, Ian Buchanan, Natalia Livingston, Tamara Braun, Chrishell Stause, Melissa Archer, Paul Telfer, etc… all very talented actors and actresses who have joined DAYS in new roles with horrible writing.

Truly sad.

I am very sad to see her go. Eve Donovan has a strong history with the show and was connected to many key players on the show. Kassie is a very talented actress who has been doing excellent work with the Paige death scenes. When Eve is heartbroken you feel her pain. Kassie vividly showed you all the pain Eve was in and how lost her character was. Days could done so much more with a talent like this. It is sad that never chose to utilize Eve and Kassie in the role to their fullest potential. The reason I started watching days again is because Kassie joined the soap. She is going to be missed alot.

I agree with what so many have posted here. The writing for Eve, and the ridiculous storylines which had her playing in the kiddie pool, was horrible from the start. But KDP is an amazing actress, and she has been phenomenal with the meatier material she’s had the last couple of weeks. I think Eve and Justin have potential. It’s just too soon imo for TPTB to ditch the character. It’s possible for the new regime to turn the character around and give her better storylines.
I followed KDP to Days; and I’ll be leaving when she does.

“…It’s just too soon imo for TPTB to ditch the character ”

fan outcry have clearly spoken

“she’s an amazing actress w/so much presence”

i’m repeating myself… we can hope…. that DAYS / Sony / NBC take note(s)

Days messed up. Kassie was just great in the part they gave her with crap writing and a teenage character for a partner and she still did good. I won’t be watching Days anymore, because I started because of her and Days is no OLTL.

I will be gone if Kassie is gone. She’s the only reason I watch and I know many OLTL fans started watching just because of her. DOOL will see their “uptick in ratings” go back on the downward trend if Kassie leaves. With a show full of boring, it’s great to have an exciting character/actress like Eve/Kassie.

Matthew Ashford and Melissa Reeves Talk Return to DAYS for Doug’s Funeral, Susan Seaforth Hayes, and Their Enduring Friendship

Last week, Days of our Lives celebrated the taping of their 15,000th episode which is tentatively scheduled to air on December 3rd. The story will feature emotional and heart-tugging scenes of Doug Williams funeral and honor his portrayer, the beloved Bill Hayes, who passed away on January 12th at the age of 98.

While the actors, producers, and crew took a lunch time break to pose for some pictures and speak with the press, they knew they would have to get back to taping the funeral, which was going to make it a tough day, but also cathartic for all who loved Bill Hayes.

Several returns have thus far been announced including; Melissa Reeves reprising her signature role of Jennifer Horton (a part she first played in 1985), and Matthew Ashford as Jack Deveraux. Reeves had last appeared on the show back in 2021, and she was replaced by Emmy-winner Cady McClain in her absence when Jennifer was in storylines. In real-life, Melissa had moved full-time to Tennessee along with her husband, Scott Reeves (ex-DAYS, GH, Y&R). Now, and as previously reported, Reeves will first appear back on DAYS for the Thanksgiving episodes with the Hortons.

Michael Fairman TV caught up with Matt and Melissa during the 15,000th episode celebration to get their take on: being back for these special episodes, how it has been working with and watching Susan Seaforth Hayes portray Julie’s grief over losing Doug, and how they have supported each other through the years. Check out what they shared below.

Melissa, you are back on the set of Days of our Lives for this very emotional and special moment in the series history. How does it feel?

MELISSA: Oh, my goodness. I am honored. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else but to be here for Bill. He was like my real-life dance partner. He taught me how to ballroom dance. And to be here for Susan, of course, who’s just been our sweet hero this whole week. We’re just following her lead. She’s just been this incredibly strong example for us in the midst of this trial and season of her life. She is like just lifting us all up with her. It’s been incredible.

I was at Bill Hayes memorial service which was truly incredible and I know at the time you were in Tennessee. It was moving and celebratory of his life, all at the same time.

MELISSA: That’s all I have heard. I have to watch it on You Tube. They said it was just a real celebration of his life and I love that.

This must be difficult for Susan Seaforth Hayes depicting the death of Doug, when she is still grieving the loss of her beloved husband. (Susan pictured above with the returning Stephen Schnetzer who plays her on-screen brother, Steve Olson).

MELISSA: I’m sure Susan has those moments at home by herself, but she’s so good at being a leader and leading all of us. We’re following her, you know, and she’s like, “This is how I want to feel today.” And we’re just going along with her, you know? It’s so sweet.

Photo: JPI

How is it to see Matt Ashford again live and in-person?

MELISSA: You know, Matt and I can go years without talking, or seeing each other, and then the minute we see each other we’re chatting away.

MATT: Melissa was out on set doing a scene yesterday on the phone talking to a stage manager; as she was telling some really tough news on the phone. I’m like crying in the background, literally, I’m off-stage crying.

MELISSA: And then we get like back into normal life, and we’re like, okay, “What’s happening? What’s happening with this … or what’s happening with that?”

I had read, Melissa, that you were in touch with Matt about if there night be a possibility for you to reprise your role as Jennifer for these special episodes?

MELISSA: Yes. Well, Matt was like, “Hey! Would you want to come back? “And I was like, “Matt, you know, I would always come back. ”

MATT:  Every time I come here to Days of our Lives, they ask, “Where’s Missy? How’s Missy?” Everybody backstage says, “I miss her.” All of the crew is asking about her and saying, “It would be nice to see Missy. Nothing wrong with you Matt, but …”  They said, “Where is she?” I said, “She wants to come!”

Photo: JPI

There are some beautiful photos of Missy and Bill and Susan thorough the years that I found. It just reminded me of just the deep and entrenched history we all have had with the show, personally and professionally.

MATT: Missy is roughly the age where Francis Reid (ex-Alice Horton) was when she started the show, which is just crazy.

Photo: JPI

I’ve always said Missy was going to be the next generation Alice. Do you feel that Jennifer is the heir apparent matriarch of the Horton family?

MELISSA: Yes. I mean, this has been greatest blessing of my life, and that would be great. I told Ken Corday (executive producer, Days of our Lives) when I was 17 that this show would be my life. Ken always told me, “This is your home,” and I’ve always felt like that.

How have gotten through the scenes watching Susan Seaforth Hayes as Julie go through the loss of Doug?

MATT: Susan is bringing her best performance life for her and Bill. I mean, she’s a showbiz baby. She always has been one hundred percent, and she’s doing it for him, and this is who they’ve always been. So, you’re seeing this amazing performance colored by her life. She has her private life as Susan, but she has enough plugged into Julie that she’s done amazing work. The director, producers and writers are giving her room to live in these moments and it’s quite wonderful.

Photo: JPI

Have you already broken down in tears during the taping?

MELISSA: Yesterday, but today’s taping of the actual funeral I think they want us to try and be just more celebratory.

MATT: I mean, it is a beautiful long life for Bill Hayes and his character of Doug Williams, and so it will be about that. Then, you get a bunch of us together in the church pews, and there’s going to be hijinks.

MELISSA: We all have been through the waves of grief. You have that awful cry and then all of a sudden you feel okay.  There are those family situations we are portraying where you’re like, “What do we do? What do we do now? You know, no one knows what to do. But, it’s so sweet. I’m looking forward to seeing how the scenes all turn out.

So, are you glad that Matt and Melissa are back for the 15K episode and Doug’s funeral? From what we can tell, it’s going to be quite an emotional journey for Days of our Lives fans, and especially the performance of Susan Seaforth Hayes,

Ron Carlivati Talks on Decision to Make Days of our Lives 15000th Episode About Doug’s Funeral, and Previews Chances for WGA Award

This week, Days of our Lives celebrated the taping of their 15,000th episode. In of it itself, that is an incredible accomplishment for the long-running soap opera currently streaming on Peacock.

However, this on set gathering was a bit different. Though the show is celebrating their achievement, they are also in the middle of taping scenes surrounding the death and the funeral of Doug Williams, played by the late Bill Hayes, who passed away on January 12th of this year at the age of 98.

As previously revealed many longtime favorites are back to honor Bill and the character of Doug including: Gloria Loring (Liz), Melissa Reeves (Jennifer), Matthew Ashford (Jack), Maree Cheatham (Marie), Victoria Konefal (Ciara) and Stephen Schnetzer (Steve) to name but a few.

Michael Fairman TV was in attendance and spoke with Days of our Lives head writer, Ron Carlivati to gain some insight into how the 15,000 episode was crafted and the decision to honor the character of Doug Williams and Bill Hayes as its epicenter. In addition, Ron weighed-in on this Sunday’s April 14th WGA (Writers Guild of America) Awards, where he and his writing team are facing off with General Hospital for the daytime drama prize. Here’s what Ron shared below.

Was this your idea to make the 15,000th episode centered around Doug’s funeral and passing?

RON: It was. When you’re looking at it, and laying out the calendar for the whole year and you see 15,000 is coming up, we’re like, “What are we going to do?” And then, we got the news that Bill had passed away and something kind of clicked. I was like, “We should honor Doug on that show.” So then, we started to kind of build around that … when does he pass away? How does he pass away? Who could come back? You know, it’s a lot.  I’m very pleased with the returns that we got as there’s so much that you could do. We wanted everybody we could get. So, we put together a wish list and Janet Drucker (co-executive producer, Days of our Lives) made it happen.

Photo: JPI

You have Melissa Reeves back as Jennifer, when the role was last played by Cady McClain. What has it meant to have Missy back for these shows?

RON: It was so nice to see Missy Reeves. I think Cady has done such a good job, but on the 15,000th episode to see Missy as Jennifer, it’s a big deal. So having her was great, and overall, the milestone was a big undertaking, because you want to live up to it. You want the 15,000th episode to be good. Now, it has a lot of real emotion that you’re playing. because for the cast and the crew they’re honoring Bill Hayes just as much as we’re honoring Doug Williams.

Photo: JPI

Was it hard for you and the team to write this episode?

RON: Yes. I’ll tell you why it was hard to write.  When I wrote, for example, Asa’s (Phillip Carey) death on One Life to Live or Victor’s (John Aniston) on DAYS, Asa is a different type of character. Like, you could have characters going, “Oh! I’m glad he is dead.” You could have different points of view, but with Doug, you’re not having that. Every person loves this man. No one had a bad relationship with him. So, you’re challenge as a writer is how do you make it that not everybody’s saying the same thing and doing the same thing. And so, we tried to find ways to make the episode about all the familial relationships and yet, how do you make it about Doug and yet broaden the scope.

Photo: JPI

I had spoken to Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie), a week after Bill’s memorial, for an interview. She said that she felt very fortunate that you did include her on discussions of how you would tackle Doug’s passing. How did that conversation go?

RON: First, I attended Bill’s funeral, which was incredible. I said to so many people it was an emotional service, but it was hard to be sad at this. The guy had an incredible life and it was an incredible celebration. And so, you’re sitting there watching this knowing that you now have to write something similar. And how do you write something that lives up to what you just witnessed? I wanted to talk to Susan to get her thoughts about, you know, how much do you want this to be about keeping Bill separate from Doug. How comfortable are you sharing your grief. She was incredible to talk to. It was a great chat.

You’re in the middle of taping these major scenes for the 15,000 episode to air in December. How do you think it’s going? Have you seen any of the scenes?

RON:  I haven’t seeing anything. I mean, we were still making changes to the script up till this morning!

Photo: JPI

The Writers Guild Awards are this Sunday, April 14th and once again this year there are two daytime drama nominees, General Hospital and Days of our Lives. How are you feeling about your chances this year?

RON: It is often just GH and us in the category. I’ve won three years in a row, so I’m kind of feeling like it’s their turn.

Photo: JPI

What episodes did you submit for contention? If I recall, they had to do with Victor’s memorial.

RON: The episodes we submitted were centered around Victor’s funeral. I think one has story with Vivian (Louise Sorel). We had some fun stuff, we had some emotional stuff at Victor’s death, and I am pretty sure that our submission was three episodes right around that time.

Did you make the decision to go with those episodes because there was a mix of humor and drama?

RON: I like to have some humor, but it was also the funeral, then there’s Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) giving birth, and then Vivian’s crashing the reading of the will. So, we had a lot of fun and it’s hard sometimes to pick three that tell a story, as opposed to submitting for the Daytime Emmys, where the writing team only submits two shows. So, we shall see how it goes on Sunday.
