REPORT: Prospect Park Mulling Over Moving Production of AMC & OLTL to Different State!

There is another report this evening via Deadline.com on the labor dispute and early hiatus for All My Children and One Life to Live in their Connecticut Studios! Their source is reporting that they are hearing that, “Prospect Park is considering moving production of the two shows, based in Stamford, Conn., to another state.”

So, just where would the fictional towns of Pine Valley and Llanview move to?  Somewhere in the East coast tri-state area?  Whatever the situation, it is our hope that the situation can be rectified for the good of productions of both One Life to Live and All My Children, and for Prospect Park, who clearly has had a tough going on many fronts relaunching these iconic shows.

So what do you think of the report on a possible move in production cities?  Share your thoughts!

If it comes down to move the shows or production stops….then by all means bring on the move! Whatever is needed to keep these shows in production.

It may sound far fetched, but I read that Minnesota has a state film and TV board and will do anything to get productions there. Not just tax incentives, but financing. They have the facilities, equipment, and people to make it happen. In NY/Conn they are just another show, in Minnesota they would be royalty. Many famous, and Oscar winning films and Emmy winning TV shows have been made there. With today’s digital technology a show like this can be produced anywhere. Also, I read that Jerry verDorn and Jill Larson are from Minnesota.

Yeah, because it seems reasonable for all the actors and production staff to pack up and move to another state. How did that work out for AMC when it moved from NY to Los Angeles? Why don’t you ask those folks who packed up their lives only to lose everything how they felt? If they move to another state that is not driving distance from the NY area, you are bound to lose a lot of the actors – remember they only signed 1 year contracts – which already is in 3 months. Plus, they may be able to pull out of the contract automatically if PP moves them. This is not good news on any front.

Please. The actors would not move to Minnesota. Most of the actors live in NY, CT, or NJ. They aren’t going to move Minnesota.

Moreover, CT offers a 30% tax rebate. PP isn’t going anywhere. It would cost to much money.

Most states have film boards and they would not have to go to Minnesota to do this. Virginia was the home for most of Lincoln. Wilmington NC is where many movies are made including the Iron Man/Avengers franchise. they want to keep the shows going and one thing they need to do is go check out OWN ans see if Oprah will run the shows. She just scored Tyler Perry. It would be great. I cannot watch because I do not stream and I am an original watcher of the two shows.

Come on Prospect Park , Gets your act together

This is pure unadulterated BS!

My heart goes out to PP..
They try and try, and never give up..
They are committed, and I give them praise for their undying commitment to the soaps..

They will succeed I do not believe fail is not in their agenda..

I agree. People keep throwing BS at them and they keep finding solutions. This is a whole new arena and it aggravates me that everyone keeps saying for PP to get their act together. It has nothing to do with them, it has to do with creating a whole new arena. No one else has stepped up to ever do this and now someone is trying to do just that.

Give them time to get the kinks out people, it doesn’t just run smoothly right from the start. It takes work, and persistence, and trial and error.

I believe they will succeed too and if they have to move to another state to ensure that, then I am there!

I completely agree. Give them the time to work out the bumps. It’s a whole new arena and there are going to be these road bumps. PP stepped up to save these shows for the fans when no one else would (remember Oprah? So called AMC “fan”) And if I remember correctly, PP did say there would probably be these bumps because of this being a whole new arena.

The shows are back……I, for one, am happy to have them back. I’m riding this out until PP gets all of the kinks worked out. Seems some have forgotten if it weren’t for PP we most likely would not have these shows back.

Please, PP is no innocent party here.

agreed

RE: Kelly,

And you would know that how? Do you work at the studio? Or do you just base everything you know on what you read on the net?

Anyone with a little bit of intelligence would realize that there are going to be bumps and starts and stops in providing a new venue.

The same question can be asked to you, clh. How do you know that this has nothing to do with PP, do you work for the company or are you just basing off of what you read online?

There has been more than just a few bumps and starts providing this new venue. AMC/OLTL is always encountering a new problem. First PP didn’t have the funds to launch AMC/OLTL and had to put it on hold for a year, then they had to hire new head writers, got into a legal dispute with ABC/GH now it’s this.

Doubtful
PP has the CFC studios thru January 2014
CT gives 30% in tax breaks to productions
Would they get those breaks on taxes in other states?
Plus the union would still be needed so moving wont solve that.

Maybe they could move i season 2 but only if another state gives better tax breaks

They would get those breaks and more in Louisiana. That’s why so many movies are filmed here. Just drove by an apocalyptic city block Friday night in New Orleans…where they are filming the new sequel to Planet of the Apes. But, then the actors would have to live here, which would be difficult for people wanting to work on Broadway, too.

The cast isn’t going to relocate to Louisiana. Part of the reason many of the vets signed up with PP is that they live near the studio, either in CT, NYC, or NJ.

Given the pay cuts most took, it might not be worth it for them to deal with the headache.

If they move to Wilmington NC, which has great studios and is a Non-Union – right to work state, they wouldn’t require the unions and most workers in those states are not tied to a union.

I am hoping it isn’t too far from CT as I enjoy seeing David Canary on AMC. I’m sure he decided to come back as it’s not far from where he lives. From what I am gathering, it doesn’t appear the location seems to be the trouble anyway.

pray they don’t move as TK aka Zach on all my children lives in conn.and he did not want the move to california when it was on ABC so please stay where u r or u will loose a lot of good actors and fans

Hope this labor dispute isn’t going to make the shows go under!

I know it won’t happen but what about New York City? Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Yonkers, Staten Island, Long Island or somewhere else so the actors and workers don’t have to travel.

yeah, but renting studio space in the city is hellacious expensive. That’s a big reason they relocated to Stamford.

Had to reply here Penn…i was only joking when i said ‘Yes, Michigan’ about the soaps moving! lol

Haaa! Sorry. Sometimes it’s hard to tell if people are being serious on here…:P

I dont care if they make them in Hawaii or my backyard. just tape them ! Everyone involved deserves better then this

cannot say im surprised as im not, with the lawsuit with ABC the union reps wanting more for the actors and now this, its doomed they might as well sell the show back to ABC or another company just to break even. Im thinking they ONLY rushed due to the contract they had to get things going by Fall 2013 or it would revert back to Disney, its a mess with plenty of losers and no winners, these actors deserve better then this cluster ****.

Agreed!

I agree. They knew they had to revert back the rights to Disney/ABC. It did seem rushed with the production and now we have all of this behind the scenes drama. I have a feeling they will have to sell back to ABC to break even as well. It doesn’t seem very profitable for them given all of these issues and expenses. I knew the cut back in episodes had more to do than the bs they told us about the viewing of the episodes by the fans were too much. After only 3 weeks, come on. I hope this isn’t a sign that the shows will be cancelled. I want to see more episodes per week and want them to air more than 2 days per week. Hope things improve real soon.

I think PPis having a difficult decision as to move to another state. It seems that they are on uncertain ground. How many times do they have to move and get their ducks all in a row? Not to menrtion moving actors and their families once again. What is wrong with this picture? Soaps or no soaps?…..

I do believe the Brooklyn studio where Another World filmed is standing empty. Tell them to investigate Michael…lol.

I think we’d lost a lot of our vets if they moved too far from NYC. 🙁

I don’t care if they film it in Mexico, just FILM IT!!

I love the fact that this is filmed in my home state, but save the show , whatever you have to do……..I love having AMC & OLTL back!!!!Don’t let us be without our fav shows, PLEASE!!!!

Why?

Wherever as long as they keep the episodes coming.

It’s a work in progress, no one has tried to do this many shows at once on this type of platform.. I stand behind PP

Some people are too ignorant to understated what PP has gone through the keep our soaps active..

I don’t think its ignorance if one dares criticize PP in this. Pretty ballsy of you to even suggest it. PP is in this to make money….its called show business for a reason. Of course we want the shows to flourish but come on, its like a joke now. Obviously the internet wasnt the mecca they hoped it would be. PP blames everyone but themselves in everything….ABC! GH! Unions! Peoples viewing schedules! Viewers watched soaps for decades 5 days a week and were able to catch up. Their reasoning is quite simply BS and its sad you denigrate anyone who has a brain to call it for what it is.

Im not ignorant , i know what PP is doing i stated this would all happen way before rthe shows aire but some ppl want to act like the little girl going to see the great OZ , PP made too many promises with money they didnt have and now since they cant get the major money they need to produce these shows which means being able to pay actors set workers writters their lawyers etc etc now they want o get like a travling side shows and take the act on the road .. PP need to wake up find a co production co to make these shows and help run thier company .. or sell these shows to someone that can produce and air these shows which it will happen i give it a year

Thomas again, really? THEY HAVE THE FINANCING, this is NOT about the financing. PP does not want to move the show anywhere. They ARE a production company with shows that currently air on cable television!

Robby – I do not believe that su0000 is suggesting that if you criticize PP you are ignorant. But there are many people who do not understand everything PP has done. They just read a few articles and then comment. Not everyone, just some.

That is not a promising sign, compounded with the recent decrease in episodes, but on the up side, PP appears to be doing all they can to make this work, and I certainly hope it does, as I am so enjoying the return of both AMC and OLTL. I also want to see all of these fine soap stars (and all those behind the scenes) remain happy and employed. I am hopeful that all of these changes will bring a comfortable niche for both of our beloved soaps, and I wish PP much good luck in ironing this out. Please keep watching both shows soap fans!

I agree with you. Keep watching the show – the more people that watch will help keep the shows going! I couldn’t wait for their return and am enjoying every minute of them.

Prospect Park could look into the Brooklyn studios or come to New Jersey … central NJ would be good … toward Pennsylvania.

Moving to NY won’t fix the problem. They get 30% tax deduction in CT and NY is a union state and therefore it won’t solve anything. I can only see a move being beneficial if they go to a right to work state, but that could cause problems with long term NY/CT based actors. Then again if it saves the show and is worked out with the actors….

waited too long for amc and oltl to relaunch! really hope this gets straightened out as would hate to see our soaps cancelled again!!!

do not cancel our soaps again!!!

How about Massachussetts????
There have been a lot of tax breaks and incentives since Ben Affleck’s GONE BABY GONE!!!!

Wherever they need to is fine.

I think thats stupid. It seems to me that these people got everyones hopes up that these great shows would be back but there are all these obstacles in the way to prevent it. Oh an I caught a an episode of All my Children. It in no way looks like the same show. I have not seen One Life. But if its the same I will stick with GH and Y&R. It is really sad.

I agree. I watched the first part of OLTL first episode and it got on my nerves so I switched it off. I was surprised. Not the same show at all. I can see why Starr Manning, Todd Manning and John McBane forfeited their old characters and started out as new people on GH. Their agents probably told them it is a better future.

go anywhere u can so we can see these stories and its free

UNIONS SUCK! I hope they do what they have to to continue. IF it truly a union situation I don’t know how moving is going to solve the problem though. But then what do I know. :/

So I guess Cady McClain and Jill Larson all suck too….since they belong to the actors union. They are all pro union and Larson even helped with the initial negotiations. If the unions didn’t sign off on this they wouldn’t even be there. The writers, directors stage hands all have unions too. Keeps them safe and not working for peanuts. Heck PP should move to Bangladesh where NO regulations seem to be in place. A building collapse just killed over 1000 people in that country that makes clothes for you and me. Learn more about a situation before you lazily say something sucks.

don assume I hazily say UNIONS SUCK – they do! They had a place in our country but IMO (In My Opinion (in case you didn’t know)) they only ruin things now. I wonder if the hundreds or thousands of unemployed Hostess workers would agree with you? gmab

you are right if PP moves then it will be more court cases , and thier is no way the unions in the state of new york will let them film their if the screwed over the union workers in CT this is doomed

Thomas this is to be funny to lighten the mood! Old Mayor Bloomberg has probably banned soaps in NY just like salt,lg soda drinks and smoking. Because you can’t think for yourself you need him to do it oh and also wasn’t he trying to force Mommies to breast feed.

I have yet to see any episodes of the shows cause the idea of watching it online does not thrill me in the least. I don’t understand why they couldn’t have tried to get it on the Hallmark Channel or Logo. Bring back Kish for OLTL and you already have Bianca on AMC and there’s the gay contingent needed for Logo. It’s airing on TV in Canada but they couldn’t get it on TV for the US? BS!

Ya, I‘m sure homosexuality is the answer to saving the soaps. NOT! Intelligent posts are always appreciated on here…thank you to those who offer them!!

It’s not on TV in Canada. When they cut back to 2 shows per week FX Canada dropped both.

It is not showing on TV in Canada anymore, it ended when they switched it to two days a week. FX Canada said the contract was for 2 shows per day, 1 of each of AMC and OLTL, since PP did not deliver it was pulled from FX Canada on May 20th. Basically we got two weeks on TV then scramble to find it somewhere else because we cannot access Hulu in Canada.

They have these things called hdmi cords….they allow you to use your tv as a monitor and watch anything you want on the big screen. I have been doing this for over 4 years now.

And PP is still working on finding a place to air these on cable after their first run online.

I just wish people in Canada could see it, I really enjoyed the little I did see of OLTL. I think PP will not give up on having production continuing.

You can, Marsha. Hola unblocker. Install for firefox and you can watch on Hulu.

Thank you, ChrisR, for your Hola unblocker suggestion!! 😀

Could this b a ploy. ABC’s Katie talk show is going south. Maybe the want the rights back. Just sayin

LOL. ABC has no intention of spending more money on Soaps. That’s why they got rid of them in the first place.

This is what I was thinking. Coincidence? I think not!

this has nothing to do with ABC. It’s to do with the union suspecting breach of contract. ABC has no hand in it whatsoever.

The biggest mistake was to take them off tv in the first place. Shame on ABC! Other than The View, I only watched AMC and OLTL….Put them both back where they belong!!! ON TETEVISION!!! Mad in KENTUCKY!!!

I totally agree with you Gwen!

If we are lucky, PP will work all of this out and find a place on cable television these can be rebroadcast after their original airing online. I will continue to watch…

It seems natural for production to go back to New York. They should consider where the actors would like to travel to and make it easier on them too. Is it easier to get to a New York City studio or Los Angeles studio?

Well Well Well say it ain’t so! I so saw this coming and was told to keep my mouth shut, it’s time again to stop believing in PP and move on people! they cannot afford production of both shows and this is their only way out by making up stories so they cancel our shows once again!

It is not a lie, the Unions are out to get PP.

Really? Because the Union would rather have unemployed workers? Why don’t you get your facts straight. They bent over backwards to get this done.

It’s always the easy way out to blame the Unions, if it weren’t for the unions we wouldn’t have the shows that are on today! and I never said in my original statement about anything being alie so I think you should go back and re-read what I said…..No one is out to get PP! the problem with PP is they are in way over their heads, look at the reality: they cut the shows down from 4 days a week to just alternating them and then releasing a statement in which they think they can have us believe their words! the fact is they are on along hiatus and believe me when I say, I highly doubt they will be back mark my words and then everyone will cry all over again because they believed PP!

Sweets, if the union hadn’t hammered out the agreement with PP to allow their members to be given a scaled-down salary, guess what? You wouldn’t even HAVE a show. It would have died on the vine and never been revived. You can’t have a show without a crew. Period.

The agreement with IATSE was that they would allow for adjusted crew salaries IF the shows agreed not to go over a certain daily budget. If they do go over that, then they’re in breach of contract, and the crews are owed money. Simple as that. They have every right to want fair and equal value for their members’ work, and to be compensated as agreed. Nothing more, nothing less.

I see another cancellation coming; it’s just a matter of time…….

YUP

there are wonderful studios in Astoria Queens that would be great for PP. I am sure NYC film dept. would be happy to help them out….another idea, since “Katy” is doing so poorly on TV, put our two half hours soaps in her slot !!!

Where is Katy doing poorly? I love her show.

Fox News said the other day that the ratings were low and that people thought she was boring as a host….

I was thinking the same thing Barb C!

would love to see it back on TV, but for now I’ll take online…

I had the same idea. Bring the shows back to TV.

would love to see it back on TV, but for now I’ll take online

DITTO!

I would like that also….except I don’t want abc/d to touch these shows ever again.

I sure hope the shows continue to be online or back on tv, I really enjoy them and I am so happy they are back .I hope everything gets straightened out very soon. Thanks Michael once again for keeping us in the loop.

If the representatives of Prospect Park have to move their production to another state-why don’t they try New York City? That city and state are so popular as I-don’t-know-what.:)

Too expensive. That’s a big reason why they moved to CT, along with the tax credits.

I was a CBS soap fan since a kid LOL then GL and ATWT were axed. I began looking at OLTL again I did in mid 90’s looked at it and stopped and began again after GL and ATWT were cancelled. (SIGH)…. now again peoples hopes have been brought up and sad to say the writing was clearly on the wall for these soaps when it was announced they ere going down to 2 days a week. They are gonna cancel either both or one of these shows, iam sorry I wasted my time looking at them faithfully has I did when they returned, I should have known PP was gonna let everyone down!

now iam sitting here thinking,, its gonna be one they will cancel, saying they cant invest the time and money in 2 shows at a time, maybe in the future….. if all s goes well they will look back into the idea of launching it again…. and drum roll people….. the loser will be all my children

These two shows are tied to each other now. They share the studio, sets and crew. So it is both or neither….

I give Prospect Park amazing support for doing their difficult work bringing back the soaps and making sure that they’re wonderfully prepared for us to enjoy. Whatever their endeavors may bring, all we can do is give them all the support that we can. After all, without Prospect Park, we wouldn’t have AMC nor OLTL. I hope that they will be able to resolve whatever issues that they may have to overcome.

I just hope they get it all worked out. Besides the swearing and the way too explicit sex scenes I am enjoying both the shows and will stick by them thru it all because I am a die-hard loyal fan!

I wish I saw the way too explicit sex scene you did! I must’ve missed it…(even though I’ve seen every episode of both shows)

You are not alone, CTwildheart … everyone I have spoken to, also missed the explicit sex scenes. lol

they could come to Portland Or that would be awesome

PP’s only hope is to negotiate these shows out of the Unions. It has never been done before but why not at least try.

Lakewood Ranch (Sarasota), FL, has some new studios.

PP bring your production to Rochester, NY. We just had The Amazing Spiderman 2 film here. We are an upstate NY location. Great lakes, mountain sides, not to mention the nice mansions we have here. Very Pine Valley and LLanview. Lots and Lots of location shoots. Plus we get snow like these two towns.

let’s find a state with NO labour regulations whatsoever, where you can work 24/7 and not pay people for it! good on you, prospect park, i’m with you there

That’s not exactly accurate. NC for instance and TN both pay their talent and crew well, but it is not tied completely to the unions. I want the actors to be protected and the crew as well, but just because it is a right to work state doesn’t mean that it is not beneficial to all parties involved. NC is the number 2 state for production. The bigger question is will the actors be willing to travel to NC and stay 5 weeks then go back home for five weeks or will they have to do filming slightly different – 3 months straight shooting then six months off to make it easier for actors based in CT. I think it is best to stay in CT for now, but long term I think a move to a state that really will pump money into the productions and wants to invest in those jobs isn’t a bad move.

ABC Daytime need to buy back the soaps. They screwed up big time and now they can make it up to the fans.

I NEVER want these shows back in those hands!

Well, eventually they will be anyway; PP only has licensing rights. They don’t own the shows. When the licensing period ends, both shows will revert back to ABC. Sorry.

Hopefully theyll keep it close to New York so not to loose many actors…

I feel bad for the actors. They have to keep moving around to keep their jobs, must be really bad for their family life. Hope it all gets settled.

What about the movie studios in Bethpage ny. Win win on every aspect. Less than an hr from NYC. Huge studio buildings. A lot of nice towns in the surrounding area plus minutes from the Gold Coast

Brining these two shows back was a great idea. If you are going to move to a new state, perhaps you ca think about bringing them back on tv. I am not enjoying watching the computer and sitting my the computer. I must rather lie down and zip through the commercials.

Carol Burnett Talks About Being a Superfan of ‘All My Children’ on ‘Live with Kelly and Mark’

In a heartfelt reunion, of sorts, the one and only Carol Burnett appeared on Monday March 25th episode of Live with Kelly and Mark.

Burnett had first met Kelly Ripa (Hayley) and Mark Consuelos (ex-Mateo) back when they all appeared on All My Children together. Carol played Verla Grubbs first in 1983 and then again in the 90’s.

Host Kelly Ripa (ex-Hayley, AMC) noted to Burnett that “we go back a long time”. She also described Burnett’s character of Verla Grubbs, “extraordinary in every way.”

Carol’s love for All My Children is well-documented, hence legendary soap creator, Agnes Nixon, created the role of Verla for Burnett.

Photo: ABC

Speaking on how her passion for All My Children began, Carol told Kelly and Mark, “It started with my kids. They would watch at noon. I said, ‘What are you guys doing?’ I sat down and I started to watch and I got hooked!”

When Carol’s family decided to travel through Europe during one summer, the comedic legend recalled thinking, “How am I going to last if I don’t know what’s going on in Pine Valley?” She revealed she had a friend, “who sent me a telegram to the (different hotels) on Fridays to bring me up to date.”

Photo: ABC

In a hilarious moment from the segment, Carol recalled receiving a late night telegram while in Lake Cuomo when there was a knock at her hotel room door from the hotel manager who was shaking.

Carol related what it said, “Erica is still in a coma. Mark slipped again and ran away from rehab.” As Kelly and Mark broke into laughter, Burnett continued, “Chuck has learned that Donna is carrying his baby, who was once a hooker.”

Check out Carol explaining how she became an AMC Superfan below.

Malachy McCourt, ‘Ryan’s Hope’ and ‘All My Children’ Actor, Dead at 92

If you watched Ryan’s Hope through its 14-year-run, you know that Kevin the bartender became a beloved “member’ of the Ryan clan on the defunct ABC daytime drama series. The character of Kevin MacGuiness became so loved by the fans because of the actor who portrayed him, Malachy McCourt.

Sadly, according to his wife Diana McCourt to The New York Times, Malachy passed away on Monday from a heart condition and battling cancer. The actor was 92-years-old.

Playing Kevin on Ryan’s Hope was not much of a stretch for McCourt, because in his lifetime, he was the owner of 1950s Irish pub Malachy’s on Third Avenue in Manhattan. Known as one of the city’s great story-tellers, patrons from longshoremen to the actor Richard Harris would stop in and talk all things Irish with . On Ryan’s Hope, Kevin was best friends to “Ryan’s Bar” owner, Johnny Ryan (Bernie Barrow) and he tried to keep Delia (Ilene Kristen) on the straight and narrow.

Photo: ABC

In his soap opera career, McCourt also was widely-known for his role of Father Clarence McCourt on All My Children especially come Christmastime. Was Clarence, actually St. Nick? That was always the proverbial question. McCourt also appeared on the New York soaps: One Life To Live, Search For Tomorrow and Another World. Other roles included: Devil’s Own, Brewster’s Millions, The Molly Maguires, and Starman, to name

Later in 2006, Malachy ran for governor of the state of New York as a Green Party candidate. He tackled social issues of the time including being an advocate for gay and lesbian groups to march in the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

Photo: ABC

McCourt’s childhood was recounted within his brother Frank McCourt’s Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir Angela’s Ashes, which detailed their mother’s attempt to raise the four of their surviving seven children in poverty in Limerick, Ireland. Later, Malachy wrote his own memoirs: 1998’s Monk Swimming, and 2000’s Singing My Him Song.

Malachy is survived by his aforementioned wife, Diana, daughter Siobhan McCourt; sons Malachy Jr., Conor and Cormac; stepdaughter Nina Galin; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Share you remembrances and condolences for Malachy McCourt via the comment section, but first check out this scene from a 1983 episode of “Ryan’s Hope” featuring the late actor with Ilene Kristen.
