Although remembered first in Pine Valley, Hatch went on to primetime TV and feature film success, most notably in the sci-fi series Battlestar Galatica where he played Captain Apollo.

On AMC one of the first love stories was that of Phil and Tara (Karen Lyn Gorney) and the interloper and troublemaker Erica Kane (Susan Lucci). In story, Phil was eventually drafted into the war in Vietnam and left the canvas in 1971.

When Phil was recast it was Nicholas Benedict who assumed the role.  As for Hatch, after leaving the soaps, some of this other credits included: Cannon, Hawaii-Five-O,  The Waltons, and The Streets of San Francisco.

R. I. P. RICHARD HATCH. WOW brings back memories of Jeff and Mary Kenicott. Great story great actor.

So saddened to hear this news. He was one of the main reasons my older sister started watching AMC in the early 70’s. She thought he was the Cutest thing ever! Being a good little sister I started watching with her and thus began my love of ABC soaps.
RIP Richard Hatch

We were just discussing this elsewhere…i seen rare footage of him as Phil but i best remember him from Battlestar Galactica…R.I.P…in an hour i’ll be attending the funeral of my late great aunt who passed away at the age of 89 just 9 days after my father passed away at the same age of 89…she was my late father’s aunt!!!

Jimh…you know the more I think about things, life can be wonderful, but also unpredictable and strange. For instance, how can some people smoke or drink more than a little bit for much of their lives and live to be 100. Go figure. So keep looking at the bright side of things and appreciate them them when they come. 🙂

I feel your pain Jimh been there like that too. No one can say the right words because there aren’t any. Just do your best to get through.

Loved Phil and Tara–and his mother!

MOTHER’S you mean. Ruth and Amy. That was a hot mess and cemented Erica and her blabbering mouth on the canvas.

Are you guys kidding? He is best known recently for Battlestar Galactica.

Terrible loss

Shocking had a seriously crush on Richard the real Phillip. R.I.P . Prayers to your family & friends.

Me too and oddly wonderful man I married in 1977 looks much like Richard! Lucky me.

I didn’t know him on AMC, but on Battlestar I was soooo in lust with him– a lot of my friends like Dirk’s character better but I was on team Apollo all the way– he was one I spend my hard earned teenage money to get his poster to put on my wall— my condolences to his family, friends and fans—

richard hatch , i remember that he replaced michael douglas in the streets of san franscisco . he played dean caldwell , a man the character claudia carrington had an affair with while married to steven carrington on dynasty . i remember he also was briefly on santa barbara . we are loosing so many fine people these days !

I loved his portrayal of Phil Brent. The next one was okay, but Richard, IMHO was a much better Phil. I loved Phil and Tara.
I also loved him on Streets of San Francisco. I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing. Gone too soon.

I remember watching amc with my mom I remember Jeff and Mary and Ruth and phoebe lol. I loved ryans hope too

Blessings to Richard’s spirit and soul and all of his family and friends. He shared his talent beatifully through playing the role of Phil Brent. I miss those good old AMC days. The early days in particular were filled with wonderful storylines.

I loved him in both BSGs and saw him speak at a panel during a BSG exhibit at the Museum of Popular Culture a few years back. I remember him still having an abundance of energy and enthusiasm when it came to BSG unlike some of the other actors who participated in BSG 2 and their show was just ending. They were just sort of depressed. Ron Moore was there and had yet to start up his Outlander project and was down too but Richard was amazing.

He also had a brief run on Santa Barbara in ’90 as film director Stephen Slade. RIP.

I always like Richard,it is a terrible loss,May you rest in peace.

Sad news…beautiful actor.

Richard Hatch’s “Phillip Brent” was quite before my time, and I’ve never been into sci-fi, so my exposure to the actor was rather limited, but I do recall watching this very talented man in various primetime guest shots, and most especially, in an old tv bio-pic rerun about the late Jan Berry of “Jan and Dean” fame. Mr. Hatch was quite soulful and skillful in his portrayal of the early ’60’s popstar who had it all then nearly lost everything after a tragic car crash which robbed him of his charmed life, mobility, and to a great extent, singing career. Even though it has been many moons since I enjoyed that particular performance, it strongly remains ingrained in my memory due to the impressive, impassioned talents of Richard Hatch.

I was SO upset when after waiting for “Phillip” to return from the war…it was not even him.But then I was all of 18.

Jacob Young Shares Production Pic of Cast of His New Film Featuring Joan Collins and Nadia Bjorlin

Last month, during a livestream conversation on the Michael Fairman Channel, while promoting Jason Cook’s film, Four for Fun, and featuring soap notables Jacob Young (ex-AJ, AMC, ex-Lucky, GH, ex-Rick, B&B) and Brytni Sarpy (Y&R), Young revealed some intel on his upcoming movie project.

Jacob shared that he was set to direct, produce and star in a Agatha Christie-like murder mystery feature film, Murder Between Friends shooting in Prague.

The actor/director expressed, “I’m flying at the end of the March to Prague to direct, produce and star in a film with Joan Collins (ex-Dynasty). Nadia Bjorlin (ex-Chloe, Days of our Lives) is in it, and Toby Alexander Smith from Eastenders (ex-Gray Atkins). Plus, a couple of my Broadway friends and a very well known Czech actress (Hana Vagnerova). It’s very ‘Knives Out’ without having a hundred million dollars to shoot it, but still will be a lovely film nonetheless.”
