Though it’s been more than four years since members of ABC Daytime’s One Life to Live” cast first banded together, lifting their voices in song to create a compilation CD to benefit those affected by Hurricane Katrina, their voices are still being heard through the gift of music.  With a mission to “recover through the arts,” the One Life, Many Voices Foundation has announced plans to donate three upright pianos to students in southern Mississippi, as well as a grand piano to a theater company in New Orleans.

Beginning the first week of March, upright Yamaha pianos will be delivered in Mississippi to West Marion Primary School in Foxworth, Bay High School in Bay St. Louis and the Boys and Girls Club in Pass Christian.  A very special grand piano, purchased in the memory of Phil Carey, who played OLTL’s Asa Buchanan from 1979 to 2007, will also be given to the Le Petit Theatre in New Orleans. Since the original One Life, Many Voices”CD was made available, the non-profit group has funded more than 50 music scholarships for junior high and high school students to the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA), mailed out 1,000 baroque wooden recorders to elementary schools, and donated two additional upright pianos.

The group’s CDs are no longer being distributed through regular sales channels, but they maintain “a commitment to help and support in any way we can,” according to Robin Strasser (OLTL’s Dorian Lord), producer and project coordinator.  “With an official letter establishing the not-for-profit status of a religious group, school, service organization or other 501(c)(3) organization, One Life, Many Voices will be proud to supply CDs, free of charge, to use as fundraisers for local efforts,” she added.  For more information visit www.facebook.com/onelife.manyvoices

Apple Inks Multi-Year Partnership Deal With Oprah Winfrey For New Original Content

In an effort to go head to head with streaming giants Netflix and Amazon, Apple announced today a marquee signing that will give it a leg up on the competition. In an effort to ramp up its original content portfolio, they have signed multi-Emmy winner, Oprah Winfrey.

Apple said the new deal will not affect Winfrey’s contract with OWN, the television network she launched in 2011. Oprah has a contract there till 2025.

In a statement, Apple related: “Together, Winfrey and Apple will create original programs that embrace her incomparable ability to connect with audiences around the world. Winfrey’s projects will be released as part of a lineup of original content from Apple.”

As for how the deal will utilize the many talents of Oprah, it is expected she will have an on-camera role as a host and interviewer, and could be in some of her projects.

For Apple landing this deal with Winfrey and other big names will keep audiences checking out content on their iPhones and Apple TV, and potentially bring in more consumers who want to see the exclusive content from O.

Reports say that new deal with Oprah will include everything but the kitchen sink from: film, applications, books, and content that can be easily distributed across all Apple platforms.  Winfrey’s “Harpo Films” will apparently own any and all content produced under the Apple partnership.

So, what do you think of new Oprah content and programs coming to Apple? Comment below.
