Shawn Christian On His DAYS Departure: "Humbled & Grateful To Have Shared Dr. Jonas' Life With You All."

After months of silence, Shawn Christian (Daniel) has finally broken his on Wednesday with a tweet, as DAYS fans are seeing the last of him on the long-running NBC soap opera.

In story, Dr. Daniel Jonas is brain dead following a horrific New Year’s Eve car crash leaving both Brady (Eric Martsolf) and Eric (Greg Vaughan) in need of a heart. University Hospital doctors,  Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) and Fynn (Alexander Bruzt) are keeping Daniel’s organs alive while a major decision is made by Maggie (Suzanne Rogers) as to who will get the good doctor’s heart since he is an organ donor and a match for both men.

Today, Christian thanked his fans for their enduring support during his eight years with DAYS relating:  “Your outpouring of love is deeply appreciated. Ur messages have me speechless, humbled & grateful to have shared Dr. Jonas’ life with u all.”

Will you miss Shawn and Dr. Jonas in Salem?  What did you think of the sentiments he shared to the fans today? Did you have a favorite Daniel storyline or romance through the years?  Comment below!

He never caught on and the desperate way the writers would try to connect him with anyone never made him endearing. Shoving characters down any throat that’s available isn’t very creative or compelling. He’s so cute it’s such a shame. Maybe his reformed bad of a sudden daughter Melanie (the most irritating) will never be seen again.

He never caught on? Wasn’t he on the show for, like, forever?

I’m disappointed that Daniel left the show.he is a terrific actor. U will be missed

Daniel you will be Missed ,Im 49 I have been watching DOOL since I was 14 yrs old thats 36 yrs u all are part of my life I grew up with DOOL♡♡♡ I LOVE U ALL

I loved Daniel and Jennifer

I agree that there were certainly times I felt he was shoved down our throat! I liked him a little bit when he was with Chloe, but they (the powers at be) didn’t seem to want to make that work. I thought he had chemistry with Lisa Rinna when she came back but they quickly moved him back to Jennifer – which ruined both of their characters during that time. It was certainly time for the character to move on. Agree he is a cutie!

Lol! I have to agree about everything including Melanie. He was just a dud all around. Cute but dull.

And just what do you do for a living, that you are calling him a did ? Go ahead and lie because I know you won’t be truthful

What I do for a living has nothing to do with this character being a dud. That’s probably the stupidest comment I’ve ever responded too. Separate character from actor Janice! Doh!!

He wasent dull at all he was sweet honest caring loyal and. GORGIOUS , Daniel & Nicole 4 ever!!!♡♡♡

Yeah I can’t take much of Melanie. Short visits are fine.

Agree about Melanie, she’s like 28 going on 12 – regarding the way
she is depicted or perhaps the way she is interpreted by the actress who
portrays her.

I think that Daniel and Jennifer were a great couple.

My problem was the show got to be too much Jonas and having Nicole going back and forth between him and Erik..before that it was too much with him and Jen-they lacked chemistry…i suffered from Jonas burnout…also at the same time it got to be too much with Will, Sonny, and Paul…too much of both storylines and very little else going on with the rest of the cast…more balance between all characters like it is written now has improved things but they didnt have to kill off some of the characters to do this…i wouldve had Will and Sonny simply leave town after Will survived Ben’s attack and brought back the characters sometime later as recasts if needed…i would also bring back Dario-he could be gay and invovled with Paul…Danial could have left for a new position out of town…Nicole couldve went with him but they break up and she returns to Salem…but nuttin i can do about it so i just sit back and either watch or turn it off…im still watching.

So happy to finally see the end of the Jonas reign. Since his backburning, the show has become much much better. Just hope Melanie isn’t back permanently.

Same here. I have no problem with Maggie here and there but not full time. I hated that Brady was with her.

Well I didn’t think it was necessary to “kill” off the character, but I will not miss Daniel at all. It had nothing to do with the actor, just the way the wrote him over the years, he went from being the man whore of Salem who slept with anyone and anything to Saint Danny who could no wrong– both extremes were boring. A truly interesting character has all kinds of shades of grey, which is why characters like Bo, Steve, EJ and others like them were memorable, and the Daniels of the soaps are soon forgotten. Good luck to the actor, hope you find a new gig soon.

I will miss him.

I feel sorry for Suzanne Rogers. Maggie had three children and now the only one on the canvass these past few years is dead leaving her without any blood relatives on the show. I hope that the writers bring back one or both of her daughters next time they need a new female character. DAYS’ Hortons are the bedrock of Salem and now with Kate Mansi leaving, there will be even fewer. Julie’s son, David, is never mentioned and neither is her grandson, Scotty. Doug had a son with Rebecca, Dougie, and he’s never mentioned. And don’t even get me started on asking where Mike is! Bring back the Hortons instead of all these other newbies! I think Shawn Christian is a fine actor and easy on the eyes, so I think he’ll do fine. Still, I’ll miss Daniel on DOOL.

I so agree!!!!! Incorparate more of the Horton’s in the storyline, even a mention of them would be nice. Some of us viewers have been with the show since we were teenagers and remember the old characters. I DO LOVE that most of the characters have remained as the same actors….Kayla,Kim,Steve.
Daniel was a favorite and I wish he had become more of an anchor in the stories. He was SOO SOOO easy to drool over!!!

I’ve been wishing that they would bring Scotty back w/ the guy who’s over at GH playing Rick Lansing… b/c they’re not utilizing him on GH. Agree that one of Maggie’s daughters needs to come back.

Crushing scenes today with Nicole and Maggie…. not sure how actors laying in that bed can hold back the tears themselves….

I loved that Nicole finally had her happy ending…for a minute. Since they are together in real life, I would think after her contract is up that she may as well say bye bye…

Message to TPTB… these new “kids” are not going to carry this show so… better have a Plan B!

They should not have recast Ciara, and the other teens are just as bad. I like Joey though.

I like Joey, too, blake. But, I expect TPTB will ruin him somehow….another teen caught in the Black Widow’s web ‘melodrama’….same old, same old. I think we all agree with Elite about a Plan B. These kids ain’t working for me either. It is what it is, I guess. If things can remain status quo for a loooong while, I will be happy……please do not attach Jen with any man. She is at her worst when ‘entangled’. She has a penchant for bringing the guy down with her. I honestly can’t remember her smile. I feel badly for Nicole. I suppose there will be three women vying for Brady’s attention when he’s up and running (or even before). Theresa, Nicole and Melanie; each will want a piece of him. Grrrrrr!!

I like Joey too, I fast forward through the teenager scenes, it was much better when they were young. I do not like the characters Chase and Ciara, I tried but they just don’t have it. The acting just isn’t there.

Not going to miss him. Wish Dr. Jonas would take his Australian friend with him and let us keep Greg Vaughan instead.

When Dr. Jonas first arrived in Salem he was bedding Kate Roberts, Billie Reed and then Chelsea. Nothing like keeping it in the family…LOL!

Shawn Christian is a very good actor. While I’m sad to see his character killed off and his presence gone from Days, I’m glad to have watched him in Salem for the past 8 years. I hope his new career path takes him to great heights where his great talent talent will be appreciated.
Wishing you, Shawn, all the success in the world!

Contrary to some continous claims Daniel and Shawn have his fans; myself included.
Daniel was a flawed character but in the town of Salem with rapist and murderers running free he was a pretty decent guy. The actor had chemistry with a lot of his co stars. He will be missed by me and many others. Of course he has his haters but so does every other character on Days.

I was becoming a fan of Daniel and Nicole as a couple but it is what it is. I wish SC the best.

I miss Daniel. I liked him and Jennifer but when he started dating Nicole, I saw the chemistry. At least she is dating him so she sees him out of work. Wish them both the best.

I have always liked this actor. I loved him on ATWT years ago. I don’t understand the negativity that surrounds the character of “Daniel” I thought he “caught on” very much in recent years. He became the go-to guy for help and ran the hospital with Kayla. He was Victor’s godson! And friends with everyone. I will miss him very much. Where on earth is Maxine by the way? She will be devastated over his death.

Gloria, I totally agree on all what you said. I have always liked Shawn Christian and wish him nothing but the best. I am so done with DOOL…people said it’s great, I disagree…To many characters are leaving, the show looks different and even feels different. If they want to improve DOOL, look back at the good old day for the way the show was done and recreate that.

I will say this, I am not in favor of a Patrick Drake recast on GH BUT this guy might fit the bill IF he can act?

Hi, Timmm.
I like Shawn and I think he would be a significant asset for GH, as a different doctor. He is too old to play Patrick Drake, I would think. Please don’t call me ageist. Lol. I speak the truth. Luv-ya.

You young tart you! I see what your saying. He could even be Julian’s lost older son that goes head to head with Dante? But yes anyway, we need to restock GH doctors and nurses.

@Timmmm.
Oh, my gorgeous guy, you…..Shawn C is fifty years old….older than Julian. But, don’t fret. Age doesn’t matter to GH. Sam, Julian’s daughter is almost as old as her Dad. Imagine that! So what if his progeny (Daniel/Shawn) is older….LOL. It might work. Still luv-ya.

FIFTY! He must be living a clean California lifestyle. He looks good!

Right???!!!….he looks great. Not a day older than I. HaHA! Bye, luv.

Love Shawn Christian! Amazing actor who filled the small screen. He will be missed, just like all the others killed by Days.

So is Nicole pregnant? Let it be so.

Anne, what an ingenious idea. It hadn’t even crossed my mind. Good one, Anne! I like the idea of a pregnant Nicole. She’s always, so desperately, wanted a baby!

I never dreamed she could be pregnant! That would be great & maybe she could end up with Dr. Finn-Daniel’s friend? We still don’t know much about him at all. A shame his friend dies so soon after he comes to town. There is no other man in that town for Nicole.

@gloria.

Hi, Gloria. It could be that this new doctor was specifically brought in because Dr. Jonas/Shawn was leaving. Oh, not to worry, gloria (lol), I am sure TPTB will think of something to pin on this new hunky doctor; a shady past? Criminal family and terrifying upbringing? He is from Australia, right? Isn’t that country/continent where all the British criminals were sent way back when? Double LOL.
Seriously speaking, though, if Nicole is, indeed, pregnant; and, I pray she is, maybe she should just lay back, mourn Daniel and clear her mind and soul and enjoy her pregnancy….look at it as a new beginning carrying a Jonas baby. Give Maggie a treasure after losing the gold.
I would hate the idea of pinning someone on her so soon. Eric is leaving, soooo…….albeit, I never liked them as a couple. I actually can’t settle myself seeing Eric with any woman….you know, that priest thing? I am Roman Catholic, and he has been stigmatized in mine eyes. I know I sound illogical, but……Ewwww. LOL.

I am really going to miss Daniel. He’s been such an important part of so many stories since I started watching Days. Thank you Shawn Christian for making Daniel such a strong and interesting presence on the show. I wish you much success in your further career.

Everyone is jumping ship!!!!!!! What’s going on over there?

Never connect too much to him.. but enjoyed the eye candy…

What I liked about Daniel was his ability to stand up to Victor. I also liked how he and Nicole always stood by each other, even when they didn’t always want to. They believed in each other’s innocence when others misjudged them. They were perfect together.

Daniel and Jennifer romance got me addicted to days after I stopped watching for over 10 years……
I did not find them boring at all….for me I loved how they would put each other’s happiness over their own….that is true love the sacrifice they made for each other…..since they broke up Daniel had a pretty much zero storyline……the last I remember with him was the JJ/Eve affair and that involved Jen as well…..
I am glad I saw him give Jen a hug and told her to be strong for Abby like she always had been….before leaving for the fashion show……..
Daniel and Nicole was just wrong in my mind
Shawn Christian and Ari Zucker however makes a good couple in real life though
I wish Shawn all the best and I will continue to follow his career

I feel bad for the actor, it wasn’t so much him as it was the writing and the pairings he was in. Daniel and Jennifer were HORRIBLE, and they just didn’t know how to write for him. I could see him on General Hospital next, he could be the new Patrick there.

Does anyone know where he’s headed next? Please, soap gods, let it by y&r!!

I loved Daniel I hate to see him leave I kept hoping hime and Jennifer would get together. They were a better match than him and Nicole and Chloe.

I think it sucks that we hadn’t seen Daniel in months. it just seems an ignominious ending for a character that Days invested alot in (ie, family connections). I just wish he’d had a better ending. it seems so sudden. poor Maggie (and Victor); so much loss and sadness lately.

Daniel was one of my favorite characters on the show. I’m devestated he’s gone. My favorite part of him on the show was watching his freindships develop, which we saw in real time. Specifically with Nicole (when they were just friends), Brady, Eric and his scenes with JJ were wonderful as were his scenes with Maggie and Parker. Romantically, I liked him with Chloe and always hoped one day they would find there way back. But I also would have been happy if he and Jen had married as he was great with Abbey and JJ.

Shawn Christian would make a great Dr. Steve Webber recast. GH has an opening for a doctor and Liz could use her brother. We could even have a Ned/Olivia/Steve triangle down the road.

Shawn Christian, what a great handsome hottie actor!!! he sure will be missed by me, alot…i so glad Ari Zuker & Shawn are a couple off set… I watched him not be given a great storyline… this wasn’t right,,, he would been great with Missy Reeves, but no they did not go that direction,, I do however think Ari & Shawn enjoyed their scenes together.. I know he doing movies, and i feel he will reach new Heights in a movie career…Shawn deserves a great acting career, he has tons of talent, Blessed with his sexy looks!!! Best Wishes Shawn Christian, I will miss you more than you know!!! hugsss <3

I will definitely miss daniel the show will not be the same with him but I do hope to see him on other shows he is a good actor

I will definitely miss daniel he is so cute

I loved Daniels character and so disgusted with days to have killed off his character. L

Matthew Ashford and Melissa Reeves Talk Return to DAYS for Doug’s Funeral, Susan Seaforth Hayes, and Their Enduring Friendship

Last week, Days of our Lives celebrated the taping of their 15,000th episode which is tentatively scheduled to air on December 3rd. The story will feature emotional and heart-tugging scenes of Doug Williams funeral and honor his portrayer, the beloved Bill Hayes, who passed away on January 12th at the age of 98.

While the actors, producers, and crew took a lunch time break to pose for some pictures and speak with the press, they knew they would have to get back to taping the funeral, which was going to make it a tough day, but also cathartic for all who loved Bill Hayes.

Several returns have thus far been announced including; Melissa Reeves reprising her signature role of Jennifer Horton (a part she first played in 1985), and Matthew Ashford as Jack Deveraux. Reeves had last appeared on the show back in 2021, and she was replaced by Emmy-winner Cady McClain in her absence when Jennifer was in storylines. In real-life, Melissa had moved full-time to Tennessee along with her husband, Scott Reeves (ex-DAYS, GH, Y&R). Now, and as previously reported, Reeves will first appear back on DAYS for the Thanksgiving episodes with the Hortons.

Michael Fairman TV caught up with Matt and Melissa during the 15,000th episode celebration to get their take on: being back for these special episodes, how it has been working with and watching Susan Seaforth Hayes portray Julie’s grief over losing Doug, and how they have supported each other through the years. Check out what they shared below.

Melissa, you are back on the set of Days of our Lives for this very emotional and special moment in the series history. How does it feel?

MELISSA: Oh, my goodness. I am honored. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else but to be here for Bill. He was like my real-life dance partner. He taught me how to ballroom dance. And to be here for Susan, of course, who’s just been our sweet hero this whole week. We’re just following her lead. She’s just been this incredibly strong example for us in the midst of this trial and season of her life. She is like just lifting us all up with her. It’s been incredible.

I was at Bill Hayes memorial service which was truly incredible and I know at the time you were in Tennessee. It was moving and celebratory of his life, all at the same time.

MELISSA: That’s all I have heard. I have to watch it on You Tube. They said it was just a real celebration of his life and I love that.

Photo: JPI

This must be difficult for Susan Seaforth Hayes depicting the death of Doug, when she is still grieving the loss of her beloved husband. (Susan pictured above with the returning Stephen Schnetzer who plays her on-screen brother, Steve Olson).

MELISSA: I’m sure Susan has those moments at home by herself, but she’s so good at being a leader and leading all of us. We’re following her, you know, and she’s like, “This is how I want to feel today.” And we’re just going along with her, you know? It’s so sweet.

Photo: JPI

How is it to see Matt Ashford again live and in-person?

MELISSA: You know, Matt and I can go years without talking, or seeing each other, and then the minute we see each other we’re chatting away.

MATT: Melissa was out on set doing a scene yesterday on the phone talking to a stage manager; as she was telling some really tough news on the phone. I’m like crying in the background, literally, I’m off-stage crying.

MELISSA: And then we get like back into normal life, and we’re like, okay, “What’s happening? What’s happening with this … or what’s happening with that?”

I had read, Melissa, that you were in touch with Matt about if there night be a possibility for you to reprise your role as Jennifer for these special episodes?

MELISSA: Yes. Well, Matt was like, “Hey! Would you want to come back? “And I was like, “Matt, you know, I would always come back. ”

MATT:  Every time I come here to Days of our Lives, they ask, “Where’s Missy? How’s Missy?” Everybody backstage says, “I miss her.” All of the crew is asking about her and saying, “It would be nice to see Missy. Nothing wrong with you Matt, but …”  They said, “Where is she?” I said, “She wants to come!”

Photo: JPI

There are some beautiful photos of Missy and Bill and Susan thorough the years that I found. It just reminded me of just the deep and entrenched history we all have had with the show, personally and professionally.

MATT: Missy is roughly the age where Francis Reid (ex-Alice Horton) was when she started the show, which is just crazy.

Photo: JPI

I’ve always said Missy was going to be the next generation Alice. Do you feel that Jennifer is the heir apparent matriarch of the Horton family?

MELISSA: Yes. I mean, this has been greatest blessing of my life, and that would be great. I told Ken Corday (executive producer, Days of our Lives) when I was 17 that this show would be my life. Ken always told me, “This is your home,” and I’ve always felt like that.

How have gotten through the scenes watching Susan Seaforth Hayes as Julie go through the loss of Doug?

MATT: Susan is bringing her best performance life for her and Bill. I mean, she’s a showbiz baby. She always has been one hundred percent, and she’s doing it for him, and this is who they’ve always been. So, you’re seeing this amazing performance colored by her life. She has her private life as Susan, but she has enough plugged into Julie that she’s done amazing work. The director, producers and writers are giving her room to live in these moments and it’s quite wonderful.

Photo: JPI

Have you already broken down in tears during the taping?

MELISSA: Yesterday, but today’s taping of the actual funeral I think they want us to try and be just more celebratory.

MATT: I mean, it is a beautiful long life for Bill Hayes and his character of Doug Williams, and so it will be about that. Then, you get a bunch of us together in the church pews, and there’s going to be hijinks.

MELISSA: We all have been through the waves of grief. You have that awful cry and then all of a sudden you feel okay.  There are those family situations we are portraying where you’re like, “What do we do? What do we do now? You know, no one knows what to do. But, it’s so sweet. I’m looking forward to seeing how the scenes all turn out.

So, are you glad that Matt and Melissa are back for the 15K episode and Doug’s funeral? From what we can tell, it’s going to be quite an emotional journey for Days of our Lives fans, and especially the performance of Susan Seaforth Hayes,

Ron Carlivati Talks on Decision to Make Days of our Lives 15000th Episode About Doug’s Funeral, and Previews Chances for WGA Award

This week, Days of our Lives celebrated the taping of their 15,000th episode. In of it itself, that is an incredible accomplishment for the long-running soap opera currently streaming on Peacock.

However, this on set gathering was a bit different. Though the show is celebrating their achievement, they are also in the middle of taping scenes surrounding the death and the funeral of Doug Williams, played by the late Bill Hayes, who passed away on January 12th of this year at the age of 98.

As previously revealed many longtime favorites are back to honor Bill and the character of Doug including: Gloria Loring (Liz), Melissa Reeves (Jennifer), Matthew Ashford (Jack), Maree Cheatham (Marie), Victoria Konefal (Ciara) and Stephen Schnetzer (Steve) to name but a few.

Photo: JPI

Michael Fairman TV was in attendance and spoke with Days of our Lives head writer, Ron Carlivati to gain some insight into how the 15,000 episode was crafted and the decision to honor the character of Doug Williams and Bill Hayes as its epicenter. In addition, Ron weighed-in on this Sunday’s April 14th WGA (Writers Guild of America) Awards, where he and his writing team are facing off with General Hospital for the daytime drama prize. Here’s what Ron shared below.

Was this your idea to make the 15,000th episode centered around Doug’s funeral and passing?

RON: It was. When you’re looking at it, and laying out the calendar for the whole year and you see 15,000 is coming up, we’re like, “What are we going to do?” And then, we got the news that Bill had passed away and something kind of clicked. I was like, “We should honor Doug on that show.” So then, we started to kind of build around that … when does he pass away? How does he pass away? Who could come back? You know, it’s a lot.  I’m very pleased with the returns that we got as there’s so much that you could do. We wanted everybody we could get. So, we put together a wish list and Janet Drucker (co-executive producer, Days of our Lives) made it happen.

Photo: JPI

You have Melissa Reeves back as Jennifer, when the role was last played by Cady McClain. What has it meant to have Missy back for these shows?

RON: It was so nice to see Missy Reeves. I think Cady has done such a good job, but on the 15,000th episode to see Missy as Jennifer, it’s a big deal. So having her was great, and overall, the milestone was a big undertaking, because you want to live up to it. You want the 15,000th episode to be good. Now, it has a lot of real emotion that you’re playing. because for the cast and the crew they’re honoring Bill Hayes just as much as we’re honoring Doug Williams.

Photo: JPI

Was it hard for you and the team to write this episode?

RON: Yes. I’ll tell you why it was hard to write.  When I wrote, for example, Asa’s (Phillip Carey) death on One Life to Live or Victor’s (John Aniston) on DAYS, Asa is a different type of character. Like, you could have characters going, “Oh! I’m glad he is dead.” You could have different points of view, but with Doug, you’re not having that. Every person loves this man. No one had a bad relationship with him. So, you’re challenge as a writer is how do you make it that not everybody’s saying the same thing and doing the same thing. And so, we tried to find ways to make the episode about all the familial relationships and yet, how do you make it about Doug and yet broaden the scope.

Photo: JPI

I had spoken to Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie), a week after Bill’s memorial, for an interview. She said that she felt very fortunate that you did include her on discussions of how you would tackle Doug’s passing. How did that conversation go?

RON: First, I attended Bill’s funeral, which was incredible. I said to so many people it was an emotional service, but it was hard to be sad at this. The guy had an incredible life and it was an incredible celebration. And so, you’re sitting there watching this knowing that you now have to write something similar. And how do you write something that lives up to what you just witnessed? I wanted to talk to Susan to get her thoughts about, you know, how much do you want this to be about keeping Bill separate from Doug. How comfortable are you sharing your grief. She was incredible to talk to. It was a great chat.

You’re in the middle of taping these major scenes for the 15,000 episode to air in December. How do you think it’s going? Have you seen any of the scenes?

RON:  I haven’t seeing anything. I mean, we were still making changes to the script up till this morning!

Photo: JPI

The Writers Guild Awards are this Sunday, April 14th and once again this year there are two daytime drama nominees, General Hospital and Days of our Lives. How are you feeling about your chances this year?

RON: It is often just GH and us in the category. I’ve won three years in a row, so I’m kind of feeling like it’s their turn.

Photo: JPI

What episodes did you submit for contention? If I recall, they had to do with Victor’s memorial.

RON: The episodes we submitted were centered around Victor’s funeral. I think one has story with Vivian (Louise Sorel). We had some fun stuff, we had some emotional stuff at Victor’s death, and I am pretty sure that our submission was three episodes right around that time.

Did you make the decision to go with those episodes because there was a mix of humor and drama?

RON: I like to have some humor, but it was also the funeral, then there’s Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) giving birth, and then Vivian’s crashing the reading of the will. So, we had a lot of fun and it’s hard sometimes to pick three that tell a story, as opposed to submitting for the Daytime Emmys, where the writing team only submits two shows. So, we shall see how it goes on Sunday.
