Take The CBS Soap Opera Quiz: Which Far-Fetched Storylines Actually Happened On Y&R and B&B?

Courtesy/CBS.com

Some soap opera storylines are so far-fetched that on paper they sound like they will never work when the actors take them on and play the characters you love to love, or love to hate!

Now CBS.com has created a little ditty quiz for fans of The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful where you answer true or false if these plot points occurred such as:  While at a fancy restaurant, someone threatens to sue the chef for serving him cold soup.   A woman engages in witchcraft to win over a potential love interest.  One character douses another in honey in the hopes she’ll be eaten by a bear.  A man wakes up to find a dead prostitute on the floor.  A character’s deceased lover is reincarnated as a puppy. One man has another man thrown out of a helicopter over the Persian Gulf.  Those are just a sampling in this fun quiz.

Now let us know what is the most far-fetched story point in your opinion that ever took place on your favorite soap? Comment below!

There are so many far-fetched storylines in every soap that, I am sure, are worth mentioning…if I could only think of them all!!!!…..perhaps later….
The doppelgängers always take precedence for me. The most memorable for me would be Sheila Carter having had plastic surgery to look like Phyllis and Sarah Smythe to look like Lauren.
Sarah held, Phyllis and Lauren prisoner for an interminable amount of time.
But, what is most imbecilic to me is the fact that friends and family did not have the smarts, the intuitiveness, the wherewithal to know the difference….that is far-fetched in itself.

Sarah held Lauren and JANA prisoner not Phyllis

You are absolutely right, Chris. My bad. It was Jana, Kevin’s wife. I always get the names mixed-up…such as calling Marco, Bruno. However, Sheila did ‘steal’ Phyllis ‘s face, that was my point. Thanks.

“Eterna” anyone?

Casey the alien (on GH) anyone?

Freeze the world (on GH, by Mikos Cassidine) anyone?

What about DOOL reproducing THE EXORCIST, as Marlena is possessed by the devil?….then morphs into a black panther? I was just a little girl, but I remember that!!!!!

That was some scary stuff, CeeCee. And yet they found a way to redeem Marlena! For the DOOL big 50th anniversary, they should make reference of that storyline — somehow.

I guess because I was only 9, I think, Marlena, with those eyes, really made a lasting, scary impression on me. I will never forget it. In retrospect, my grandmother didn’t even cover my eyes. She usually did…LOL.

Doll coming to life anyone?

Thanks, Ghlover! I forgot about that one!

I do remember some of the above happening, oddly enough. Right now, I think they are ALL too far fetched to be real. What has happened to our soaps??? There is onr Bell writing and he’s doing a lousy job tit. I’d love to say more, but like I said, there are too many bad ones just to pick one. I will add one thing. Pratt has written all our women characters as either whiney, needy, crazy or mean. NOT the good kind of Phyllis mean either. He is killing our characters. It all started with JHP and her hiring and firing, or shal I say lack of firing skills that has added to it. The woman is a looser and so is Pratt. Sony should know better than to think the fans are idiots. We aren’t and we are finding holes in storylines that are major. And I mean MAJOR parts of the show/charcter. Pratt has already said that women make him uncomfortable. It still shouldn’t keep him from writing fictional characters to be strong women. SONY, GET A GRIP AND LISTEN TO YOUR AUDIENCE. WHILE YOU STILL HAVE ONE TO LISTEN.

Someone being replaced with a double.

when they get everything perfect the face the voice and how they know everything that the missing person knows like marco and jack Shelia and Phyllis.

The doppelgangers!

I don’t mind way out there stories as long as they written well and told in a creative way. For example, when Vivian buried Carly alive in the coffin– most likely that would never happen in real life, so it was far fetched, but it was interesting story, told well, so I was entertained. But something like that Lumia story on Another World that was just awful.
But what really burns my cheese more that way out there stories are the unrealistic real stories they tell. Like Maxi on GH getting pregnant on the same night she miscarried– how can that be possible, she was a surrogate, so she must have been given drugs to suppress her cycle, to avoid her getting pregnant with her own child while carrying someone else’s. So even if she miscarried Lulu’s baby, her ovaries aren’t going to pop out an egg to be fertilized just like that. It is things like that that I find unbelievable. Also people who are gravely ill who suddenly get better, people who are paralyzed who learn to walk again in a couple of weeks. People who die and come back to life, over and over– to me these are more far-fetched than say body doubles.

But the biggest far-fetched thing soaps do is when children age ten years overnight– SORASing is the worse things soaps do. It ruins the time line, so actors who are playing parents are almost the same age as their children. The latest one being Rocco and Danny on GH– have you seen how quickly they went from babies to toddlers. One episode Maxi and Lulu put Rocco and Georgie on a mat to play together and they were both babies. The few episodes later Lulu is lugging around a two year old as Rocco, and on an episode this week mentioned to Dillon that Rocco was in preschool–at this rate by next summer he will be shaving– now that is far fetched.

Lumina was not all that bad! God how i miss Bay city, Amanda Cory, Lila, Cass, Vicky and Jake, rachel, Lorna….ahhh , thank you for mentioning the Lumina storyline, it brought back so many memories

Actually next week June 25th, will mark the 16th anniversary of AW’s last episode. I still remember it, and come to think of it, every one singing to the gorilla to get her to release Cass was pretty far fetched– LOL.

Yep– I too still miss that show, Linda Dano said at the Daytime Emmy Awards that year, if they can cancel AW they can cancel anything– and she was right, soon after we lost Guiding Light, then As the World Turns, All My Children, One Life to Live.

But the saddest thing was Another World was cancelled to make room for Passions which was supposed to the big hope to saving soaps by bringing in new young viewers– but it didn’t happen.

And now networks are doing the same thing, they keep trying to reinvent the wheel to bring the young ones in– which usually only works short term. But I am certain of this, if any of the last four soaps gets cancel, the rest will follow in no time flat. It is just a matter of which network wants to take responsibility for killing the daytime drama genre on network television.

Good thing you brought PASSIONS up, Mary. That soap, in itself, was completely the most far fetched everything, never mind storylines. Every scene was a convoluted, out-of-this-world, disaster….what lunacy!!!!!

I think one of the craziest stories was Brad Bell having to come up with a way that Taylor Forrester could be alive after we saw her die in Ridge’s arms in the hospital and saw her body in an open casket at the funeral. Supposedly she just slipped into a coma and no one in the hospital noticed she was still alive. Prince Omar sent his men to smuggle her out of the hospital and back to Morocco where he found doctors who could repair Taylor’s heart. The body in the casket was a wax replica of Taylor that Ridge dug up almost two and a half years later to prove that his beloved wife hadn’t died after all. A true jump the shark moment.

Also Taylor and Nick using IVF for her to give him a child. Instead the hospital screwed up and fertilized Brooke’s egg and put it in Taylor. So Taylor gave birth to her enemy’s baby with Nick who had been married to Brooke before he married Taylor. Talk about far fetched.
