Thaao Penghlis Heads Back To Days of our Lives! Will Be Play Tony Or Andre DiMera?

More exciting returns for the 50th anniversary of NBC’s Days of our Lives with the news today via Soap Opera Digest!
Thaao Penghlis, who was last seen on General Hospital as Victor Cassadine, has returned to Salem and is already filming new episodes in either the role of Tony DiMera, or his dastardly lookalike cousin, Andre DiMera! Thaao is also back on contract!
Penghlis was last seen on DAYS back in 2009 when Tony died. As for Andre DiMera, viewers last saw him turn-off his own life-support machine in the hospital and framed Shawn Brady (Frank Parker) to make it look like he murdered him a few year prior.
The actor posted on his facebook page: “I’m back. I cannot tell how great it was going back to the DOOL set on contract & be embraced by so many. As Ken Corday said ‘Welcome back to the family.’ And seeing big Daddy was just beautiful. And love the material from the new head writers.”

Regardless of whom he will be playing, it’s exciting that the new executive team and head-writing regime are paying attention to the history of Days of Our Lives. All casting scoops are promising and makes me very excited about the upcoming fiftieth celebration this fall. However, I hope all planned returns aren’t outed by publications months in advance; I’d still love some elements of surprise when it comes to who appears.

If you’ve read any of Thaao’s posts, he refers to Stefano as “daddy” and Chad as “brother” or “bro”…..He will most likely be Tony because Andre was a cousin.
TVLine confirmed his return as André; whether or not he’s also portraying Tony has yet to be confirmed.

Thaao is just that good. Why not play both roles. As a long-time DAYS fan, unfortunately, I don’t recall Andre, I only remember Tony. Very pleased an iconic DiMera is returning.
I still would love DAYS to usher in Robb Derringer or Ted King as the new-Peter Blake-Dimera. And, I hope somehow DAYS can manage to bring Eileen Davidson – ANY character(s) back for the 50th. As Kristen is “dead”…. Susan is always fun, gosh, DAYS will be moving upward!!!
Robb Derringer would absolutely ROCK the role of Peter Blake-Dimera. Only thing is I am not sure if he would ever go back to another Soap. It would be nice to see Ted King in something though. Robb is doing a lot of guest spots and things like that.

victoria rowell is too unpedictable and ungrateful, so glad y n r and neil moved on. she held the winters hostage storyline wise without her. they finally got a hot story with hilary, although it looks like pratt the prick cooled it for fake jack and crazy kelly. goof!

Excellent news. Thaao has such a great history on the show, and he can evil with such charm. I like everything I’m hearing about the new writing team and where their priorities are. It’s a long time to have to wait, but I’m hopeful it’ll be worth it.
This is fantastic news! DAYS is overhauling the show for its 50th anniversary, and I’m really excited to see what they have in store. Thaao Penghlis is an amazing actor of such caliber and true talent. I LOVED him on GH as Victor Cassadine, but I love him even more as Tony/Andre DiMera. Truth be told, I don’t really care which role he plays, I’m just stoked that he’s returning, and on contract! GH were fools not to keep him around, but their loss is definitely DAYS gain. I’ve wanted him to return for years, and now, he finally is.

Thaao Penghlis and A. Martinez both on Days of Our Lives…I am so excited I busted my buttons. So glad Thaao is returning to Days and I thought they would never ask. Bravo to the writers for writing a story for him. I hope Thaao is playing “Tony” again and the writers sure do have some explaining to do. They made his death so final. I could never believe it was Tony left on the island and we saw Andre get swallowed up in quicksand years back. Tony has as many lives as Stefano does. “The Phoenix arises” I have always enjoyed seeing Joseph Mascolo and Thaao P. working together.
So glad that A. Martinez will be in a soap opera again and it is Days Of Our Lives. Bold and Beautiful didn’t give him more than a dozen episodes. Wonder if he will be “Doctor Cruz” or play a villain named “Adolph Martinez”? (hee-hee)

So, it seems that Thaao is playing Andre & A is playing Eduardo.
Regardless of who Thaao plays, the big deal is how his presence will be explained. Happy for Thaao because I have known for quite some time that he wanted to return to Salem. Just hope the premise is not so far fetched that the story becomes ridiculous. Maybe shows ought to be more careful about killing off characters. I think Ken Corday has done that in recent years. I applaud him for that. It is also nice to have a show that people want to return to. So congrats to all concerned.
I would love to see him back at GH BUT I am happy for the fans of Days. Thaao is a great actor!
I hope that Andre stays for long on days. I hope he plays the bad man. And he be helping Stefano out, Andre needs to teach Chad to be a better Dimera. Chad is getting to soft lately. He’s going to save Marlena ass from stefano. Andre you got to teach him to a bad ass Dimera.
Considering Kristen is dead. I would love to see Tony come back revenging the death of his ex wife and EJ. I like both Andre and Tony. You have any Dimera on screen I am sitting on the edge of my seat wondering what they are up to and what is in store for Salem with the best villians. I am so happy to hear Thaao is coming back now Days get be back like it use to be the good old days with new stories in mind.
I can’t wait to see TP. I loved him as Tony DiMera….not so much as Victor Cassadine. He is one of the most captivating actors ever!!!! Can’t wait!
I’ve been watching Days of Our Lives for over 30 years, so I am a LONG time fan, and I’m excited to see familiar favorites back on canvas. However, I’m concerned that they are forcing a lot of old characters without solid, long-term plans for them. I’m a little worried that the show is coming to an end and these actors are being brought back to give fans an ending to their stories. I seriously hope that TPTB aren’t forcing out the younger cast members in a desperate effort to lure viewers back with familiar faces, because new generations are necessary for a show to continue to thrive. No one wants to watch everyone sit around the retirement home. Actors like Jen Lilley, Christopher Sean, Billy Flynn and Casey Moss all have huge potential that still needs to be tapped. I’m happy for the revitalization as long as it’s not at their expense.

My favorite DiMera was always Renee(such a tragic character). Her last few episodes, prior to her death, were incredibly exciting… and since she was a DiMera. Death is just a minor detail.
Omg. I am so behind with my DVR of days… Tony was my favorite Dimera.. But to see Thaao again. As Tony or Andre..…Im lovin it.… I screamed so loud. I love him. I don’t care, Tony and Stephano was the best. Thank you Days….

51st Daytime Emmys: Outstanding Daytime Drama Series Nominations
On Thursday, the 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards revealed nominations in several key categories via four entertainment news programs: Access Hollywood, E! News, Extra and Access Hollywood.
Three of the four announcements were major categories in the field of Daytime Dramas.
The nominees in the Outstanding Daytime Drama Series category are: The Bay, The Bold and the Beautiful, Days of our Lives, General Hospital, Neighbours and The Young and the Restless.

General Hospital won this category last year, and has the most all-time wins for a series in this category. For the first time, the beloved Australian-based soap opera, Neighbours is now eligible for competition due to its reboot which streams on Amazon Freevee.

The 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards will be handed out in ceremonies in Los Angeles and broadcast live on CBS and streaming on Paramount+ on Friday night, June 7th.
Previous categories announced tonight via the entertainment news outlet included: Lead Actor and Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

51st Daytime Emmys: Eric Braeden, Scott Clifton, Thorsten Kaye, John McCook and Eric Martsolf Score Lead Actor Nominations
Ahead of the full list of 51st annual Daytime Emmy Award Nominations to be revealed tomorrow on Friday, April 19th, Extra’s Melvin Roberts unveiled the nominations in the highly-coveted Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series: Actor.
Going for gold are Eric Braeden (Victor, The Young and the Restless), Scott Clifton (Liam, The Bold and the Beautiful), John McCook (Eric, The Bold and the Beautiful), Thorsten Kaye (Ridge, The Bold and the Beautiful) and Eric Martsolf (Brady, Days of our Lives).
All five of the nominees are previous Daytime Emmy winners, with Eric Martsolf the only won in the group to have won his previous Emmy for work in the Supporting Actor category.

B&B could make it three years in a row as the reigning champs in the actor race, having won in 2022 with John McCook and 2023 with Thorsten Kaye.
In addition, as previously announced, the Michael Fairman Channel will play host to its 10th annual Daytime Emmy Nominations special featuring several of the nominees for the 51st annual Daytime Emmys which happens live tomorrow Friday, April 19th beginning at 8 pm ET/5pm PT.

DAYS Alum Tanner Stine to Appear in ‘Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story’ Starring Nicholas Chavez
Another face familiar to daytime fans has already boarded Ryan Murphy’s limited series, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story which stars General Hospital favorite, Nicholas Chavez (Spencer Cassadine) in the role of Lyle.
Tanner Stine who played Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) and Steve’s (Stephen Nichols) son, Joey Johnson on Days of our Lives will also appear in the series.
In ‘Monsters’, look for Stine to portray the role of Perry Berman, who was Lyle and Erik’s friend and former tennis coach. In the story, Perry found himself at the epicenter of the murder mystery when he had accepted a phone call from Lyle shortly before the brutal murders of Jose and Kitty Menendez.

Other previously announced castings included: Cooper Koch (who plays Erik), Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny as parents Jose and Kitty Menendez, Nathan Lane as Dominick Dunne, Ari Graynor as Leslie Abramson, and Leslie Grossman as Judalon Smyth.

In the series, the two wealthy brothers stand trial for shooting their parents in Beverly Hills, amid claims of self-defense after years of abuse, while prosecutors alleged that greed was the motives for the killing. Lyle and Erik Menendez have been behind bars in California for more than three decades for the 1989 killing of their parents.
Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story will debut later in 2024 on Netflix.
