The Ricky Paull Goldin, Lindsay Hartley & Jordi Vilasuso Interview – All My Children

All My Children’s February Sweeps, kicked into high gear today when the ambulance carrying Kendall, who is in need of urgent and risky heart surgery, gets into an accident, thanks to Annie!  Meanwhile, three doctors band together (with another one in the wings) to try to save her life, and in the process sparks seem to fly between two pairings, Kendall and Griffin, and Jake and Cara, or do they?

As everyone knows by now, the powers-that-be who preside over Pine Valley, decided to finally reveal Jake Martin’s back-story, and in the process fans get to see Ricky Paull Goldin (Jake) back where he belongs, front and center.  Add to the mix, the casting of sexy soap spitfire, Lindsay Hartley, last seen on Days of our Lives, as his former flame, the beautiful Dr. Cara Castillo (She was known as Cara Finn there for awhile) and Jordi Vilasuso as heartthrob newcomer Dr Griffin Castillo, her brother, and stories are set to explode, relationships are about to be tested, and fans of the show are about to see if they like the new and surprising arc of Dr. Jake and Cara’s story, and if they will accept a Griffin/Kendall pairing.  Hard for many to do considering that Thorsten Kaye and Alicia Minshew (Zach and Kendall) were the soap’s power couple.  But now with Thorsten gone, Vilasuso has the difficult task of being the next romantic interest for the heart of Kendall Hart Slater. But he tells us he is up for the job.  But what of Dr. Jake and Dr. Cara?  First off, Jake is happily married to Amanda and they have a family.  That truly complicates things.  Second, there is so much baggage with these two and so much left to be uncovered from their past, that only time will tell which
way this may go.

On-Air On-Soaps caught up with Pine Valley’s fictional medical team and hottest threesome, Ricky Paull Goldin, Lindsay Hartley and Jordi Vilasuso, just after they finished taping the episodes that you, the viewers, are seeing play out on-air now.  Funny, refreshingly honest and insightful, are just a few of the words we came away with after talking with these three soap veterans (Remember, the charming Mr.Vilasuso used to be on Guiding Light, too!), about their thoughts on the direction of their storylines and the lives of the characters they play.  Here’s our very special interview while hanging out with this dynamic trio!

MICHAEL:

Ricky, it seems there is a repositioning going on at All My Children with the character of Jake. They have laid the groundwork for major story for him by bringing in Lindsay and Jordi, as Cara and Griffin.  Do you feel there is refocusing of the character of Jake Martin happening?

RICKY PAULL:

© JPI Studios

We are an ensemble, but here is what I think. I think audiences of daytime drama are very much in love with their families and stories and history.  Once I was here long enough to be a viable, plausible Jake, and a Martin brother, who marches to his own little beat, and once they feel comfortable and have gotten to know him, do I feel now they have come to the table with big story?  I am referring to the writers and the powers-that-be who say, “Let’s go to the table and create the back-story, and let’s find out what has been bothering and plaguing him, and what is the real story.”  So to answer your question, in many ways, yes, and I am thrilled.  So that makes me the luckiest guy in the world if they cast these new players and I get to see that come to fruition.

MICHAEL:

Lindsay, when you got the role as Cara, you had just been let-go by DAYS.  And then you got this gig at AMC.  It all happened really quickly! What went down?

LINDSAY:

I was devastated of course, losing my job at Days of our Lives.  It’s hard to get a job as it is, and I liked the job, and then it was over and you’re stuck with, “Am I ever going to work again?  What am I going to do?  Should I just be a full-time mom?”  Those questions pop up, but I love working.  Right when I found out they were going to end Adrianna’s life in Salem, they had two options.  Option (A) is not the option they went for, which would have been fun, but they decided to kill her.  So they give me six weeks notice and that was a blessing.  DAYS co-executive producer, Gary Tomlin, I love him. He brought me in and apologized. And he said he couldn’t believe this is happening, but the good news is, you have six weeks and you are going to be very busy, but go do what you need to do. You know my feelings were hurt, but I called my manager within five minutes and I said to him,” Here’s the deal. I’m over.  Let’s call everyone you can in Los Angeles, as I am not sure I am ready to leave L.A. for a job.  So All My Children wanted to see me that week for a meeting.  I went in for a meeting and a long conversation with Executive Producer Julie Hanan Carruthers, and Judy Blye Wilson the casting director, and it was lovely and I fell in love with them.  They are exceptional women.  Julie has it all together – she is a strong woman; a mother, a businesswoman, she is calm, and she is everything I would love to be.  After that meeting they called me and said, “We would like to have you test with this guy, Ricky, and see how or if you guys have any chemistry.” And, I actually did not know “The Ricky”! (Laughs) But, I heard about his reputation.

© JPI Studios

MICHAEL:

So what happened in the test?  Did Ricky Paull treat you well?

LINDSAY:

So they had me test with Ricky Paull and I had my sides and I learned them.  I went in to read with him and we had a blast.  I got a call the next day that I was hired.

MICHAEL:

Ricky, did you have any input into this?  Did you say to them, “I really like that Lindsay girl”?

RICKY PAULL:

I would like to say that I had input.  I thought she was remarkable and great and she nailed it, and everybody there knows she nailed it.

LINDSAY:

But Ricky was amazing as a person. You hope when you are trying to get a job that your partner is going to not only be there as an actor, but he wanted me to know that we are on the same team, and that we are in this together.  And this was the first impression I got of Ricky, and so I thought, “This guy is great.”  You only pray to get somebody like that when you are auditioning for a job.

MICHAEL:

But the real question now is: What do you think of him after working with him for a while?

LINDSAY:

Oh, my God!  I can’t stand him.  He is a jackass and not talented!  Just kidding!  I am so enjoying it.  Ricky is incredible and his work ethic is incredible.

© JPI Studios

MICHAEL:

I was on the soundstage watching you guys work and seeing the care Ricky took in getting the most out of these upcoming key scenes, caring about the camera shots, speaking with the directors, and making sure all of the minutia was taken care of.  This was the first time in my career I had been able to see Ricky at work, and it was simply amazing how on top of it all he was.

LINDSAY:

I would say even one better than that, he did that under pressure.  It’s really difficult to be that way when there is so much going on in these big types of disaster scenes.  But he was right there being a hero.

MICHAEL:

In some pivotal scenes coming up during February sweeps, Jake sees a ring around Cara’s neck that seems to have significance!

RICKY PAULL:

The truth is, my character came to town, and I don’t know if people out there who are watching keep copies of shows, but I had the same secret when I came to town or the same secret close to my heart.  In fact, it was the identical scenario when I came to Pine Valley, and I was with Doctors without Borders and I had a ring around my neck on a chain.  And I played it at that point in time, I knew what the story was and it was made up for me.  However, now I am watching it come through on camera, so that is kind of cool.

MICHAEL:

© JPI Studios

Jordi, being a newbie at AMC, are you enjoying your Pine Valley experience thus far?

JORDI:

I am enjoying it, and it is exhausting.  I get to work with some great people and I have a lot of great material and they have given me a lot of great story to play.  I am proud to be part of such a great show that has been on forever.  In terms of production and the acting, the quality here is very high.

MICHAEL:

You were specifically brought in to be a love-interest for Kendall.  Had you met Alicia Minshew (Kendall) before shooting AMC?  What are your thoughts on her?

JORDI:

I met Alicia eight years ago in New York.  Actually, Ricky Paull and I met her around the same time when we were going to an event.  I feel like our personalities mesh.  She makes me laugh and she can be very dirty and raunchy, and I like that. (Laughs)  She is a breath of fresh air.

MICHAEL:

How are you guys playing the adversarial relationship of Griffin and Jake?  They have to now work together to save Kendall!

RICKY PAULL:

© JPI Studios

It’s not the type of adversarial relationship like a Jake and David Hayward. With my ex’s brother, I just didn’t understand.  I think once Jake understands where Griffin is coming from he gets it.  I think he respects him on a professional level as a doctor, and I think to play it the same way would not be right at all. There is a hatred there that my character feels for David Hayward.  Jake had misinformation about Griffin, and everything was an untruth anyway, and as that gets unmasked and pulled away, I can do nothing but respect the man, the doctor.  I don’t have to like the guy, but you can respect somebody and not like them.  When Cara ran off with Griffin, no one knew they were related and no one knew the story or the reason.  So now, as opposed to him being her lover, he was her brother somehow protecting her.  Jake to this day still does not know everything that happened there, but he and the audience are finding that out.

MICHAEL:

So give me the set-up Jordi, as to what happens when the ambulance crashes, thanks to Annie, with a desperate Kendall in need of heart surgery?

JORDI:

Kendall is having an aortic abdominal aneurysm.  And since Kendall has had a heart transplant previously, she is a patient of high stakes already.  She has not been treating herself with a disciplined fashion that you would expect with someone with a heart transplant. Health is number one with that, and you got to show up at your doctor’s appointments, and she is kind of living her life and having a not-letting-it-hold-her-back attitude.  She is suffering with this crisis of her husband just dying, and I as Griffin, kind of try to be as understanding as possible.  But, I am also a surgeon and I think they have written me that I don’t really want to care, but in reality I think this girl piqued his interest early on.  I think he gets off on what a non-conformist she really is and how she does what she really wants.  I think in our first meeting she had stolen something, and Griffin thinks, “Oh, my God.  I want to get to know you. Will you be my friend?”  This incident happens, and just before that I am telling her to go fly a kite, you are a pain in the ass, and I don’t want to work with you anymore. I can’t help you, and go find another doctor!  And what brings me back is my sister, Cara.  She makes me realize it’s okay to be vulnerable and to care.  It’s a great dynamic with Lindsay.  I feel very comfortable working with her and feel very paternal with her where we can kind of get along and have some fun with our lines, which is a departure from the heavy drama of soaps… which is life and death.  So it’s a lot more comic relief scenes with her, and lets me settle in more where I don’t have to be in fifth gear all the time.

© JPI Studios

LINDSAY:

We are exact opposites… that’s how we are.  But Cara and Griffin are both doctors, but chose to do so for completely different reasons.  Cara is a tough doctor, but fun.  Griffin is always serious.  Cara always wants to break him down.  So, whenever or however she can get through to him she does by trying to get his attention and then going, “I gotcha.”   Like Griffin likes to eat, so Cara is always giving him food.  It’s a constant thing and it’s crazy.  I think that is the mother in her, and she is very nurturing that way.

MICHAEL:

So, Lindsay and Jordi, what do you think of how Ricky Paull plays a doctor?

JORDI:

What am I suppose to say to that?

RICKY PAULL:

Should I leave the room? (Laughs)

JORDI:

I will say this…I think Griffin respects Jake as a doctor, but does not necessarily want him hanging around his sister.  I have these women in my life who just do what they want and I just have to say it’s exhausting, and Griffin can’t really control anything.  So that is part of my evolution of the character; to be able to let certain things go, especially for someone like Griffin, who is such a know-it-all, and has such expertise and really appreciates highly skilled stuff.  Even myself personally, it’s something I understand and can bring to this character… that a situation will either work itself, or if not, you have to deal with that, too.

MICHAEL:

Finally, do you think come Valentine’s Day, we will know certain things about Jake and Cara, and why Cara truly left Jake in the first place?

© JPI Studios

RICKY PAULL:

There is a lot more than meets the eye.  I’ve got to say this for Donna Swajeski and David Kreitzman, our head writers:  Kreizman was the youngest head writer in daytime at the time when he wrote for Guiding Light and Donna knows her stuff.  I think she knows how to weave story and unfold story, and David Kreizman just goes for it.  So I like the combination, I’ve got to tell you.  I am bringing them up because this story is unpeeling and when you think you’re done, it’s still going and you find out more.  We obviously know more as actors, because we are ahead of the audience, and I actually love what I am reading. This is the first time in a long time that I have loved reading a script and look forward to reading what is coming next week.

MICHAEL:

How is Chrishell Stause (Amanda) taking all this?

RICKY PAULL:

(Laugh) Well, she is pissed! (Laughs) She is the consummate professional, and she has walked through the hair and make-up room sometimes while we are running scenes, and she has pretended to be miffed.  But, Jake and Amanda’s love is a pure love. There haven’t been any lies, and there hasn’t been any cover up, there haven’t been many half-truths and half-baked stories, and nobody left anybody in the lurch and hurt them.  Half the life we fall in love and it’s pure, and the other half of life we are like, “How do we forgive and forget or not.”  So it’s like that.  You have this pure unadulterated vase that isn’t broken and can hold water, and this other vase that has fallen off the shelf.  Can we put it back together again and can it hold water again?  It’s a silly analogy, but makes sense.

MICHAEL:

Lindsay, what do you want to see happen for Cara?  She has both Martin men in her life, Tad and Jake.

LINDSAY:

I think Cara has feelings for both Jake and Tad, and I love working with Michael Knight (Tad).

© JPI Studios

RICKY PAULL:

It’s like waking the giant within, if you put Michael Knight in with us.  For me personally, he is so much fun to work with as the Martin brothers, and we are really alike in a way here on set, too.

MICHAEL:

Is Cara going to marry Tad?

LINDSAY:

That is something she might actually consider doing, and then she will flaunt it! (Laughs)

MICHAEL:

But Tad’s last wife, or shall we say his beloved wife Dixie, died from eating pancakes!

LINDSAY:

Well, I don’t want to eat any pancakes on this show!

MICHAEL:

Jordi, had you seen Lindsay before working with her at AMC?

JORDI:

© JPI Studios

No, but she called me before we began working together.

LINDSAY:

Yeah, I wanted to hear his voice and kind of get his vibe and feel out how he was going to be before I actually got to work with him.  And… he was great.

MICHAEL:

After the big crash, even though you were driving the ambulance (laughs), will Griffin feel some sort of desperation to save Kendall?

JORDI:

I think that you see Kendall near death, but she shows some spunk and fire, and that is the part Griffin is interested in.

MICHAEL:

How did you feel when they brought you in and were told you were going to be the love interest for Alicia?  And, you knew Thorsten Kaye (Ex-Zach) was the big deal around there!

JORDI:

I did not know about Zendall being a big deal before I came to the show, but I had seen Thorsten on television or something, and I saw what a great presence he has.  I met him on a fluke when I was here at the studio.  I think I had a wardrobe meeting and I met him and I just liked him.  I did not realize that was Alicia’s on-screen partner, and then later I realized he was nominated for all these Daytime Emmys, and then I went, “OK, I get it.”  I then knew they had a huge fan base as Zendall, and I knew I had huge shoes to fill.  There has been a lot of pressure, tons of it, but I think as an actor you have to take it upon yourself to assert yourself, and not in an egotistical way, but a professional way.  If you need time to do this or that, or something is going on that you didn’t feel comfortable with that day, you need to be able to fight for something.  I am becoming more familiar with it all, and I think it will ease the pressure, which I think a large part of that is all in the head. They have written Griffin as a very strong character and I feel I am up for the task.

MICHAEL:

What is Jake feeling now?  He loves his wife, Amanda, and here he is now getting closer or feeling a pull to Cara!

RICKY PAULL:

© JPI Studios

It’s very hard to ignore this woman, Cara.  She has ingratiated herself into your life, your work, and your family. You can’t erase the past, and it is definitely a huge tug of war, but really my job is showing that we would like to be able to see a person in this position do the right thing. You have a wife and you have a baby, and she has never done anything to him…well she has done a couple of things.  I think that is the measure of a man, isn’t it? You start weighing it all, and that is where the fun will be…a man torn.  Can you be in love with two women at the same time?  I don’t think that scenario can last forever.

MICHAEL:

If you are really drawn to somebody and have that pull towards him or her, nothing can truly stop it. We have seen this happen in real life, when the perfect families are torn apart because of an enduring love with someone else.

RICKY PAULL:

I think it has a lot to do with how your spouse deals with the information and you see their true colors come out, or how they play it.  I am not saying that this is happening, but you have to be careful.  If somebody keeps pushing you and pushing you, and you are guilty of some thing, I have seen it happen where you are getting blamed for stuff you haven’t even done, and you actually end up pushing someone into somebody else’s arms.  I don’t know how much of that we are going to get to play out, but that is the human condition.  It is a very human thing to see what would happen in that situation.  I mean, the only thing that would have broken up Jake and Amanda, if anybody were going to, would be somebody from his past, not somebody he met at a bar!

MICHAEL:

Fans are always upset if things are not plausible stories to them, and when characters are shoved down their throats. From a viewers’ perspective, you also have to understand where they are coming from.

RICKY PAULL:

Silly as it might sound, the only thing that this couple may have to face that would break them up, is something that has to be very powerful, with the ex showing up and maybe still having something in her heart and having a different story than when she left.  That might be it.  I don’t know, but it might be the thing that takes them apart.

MICHAEL:

© JPI Studios

Lindsay, you are the spoiler in this, did you feel any pressure taking that on and being responsible for driving a wedge between super-popular couple as Jake and Amanda?

LINDSAY:

First of all, I am a big fan of Jake and Amanda.  I saw them and went, “Oh, my God! They are hot!”  They are both hot and sexy.  I am having a blast though, and you gotta come in and be one of the players.  I like working, talking, and looking at Chrishell Stause.

RICKY PAULL:

We all like looking at Chrishell!

Based on what I saw today I’m sorry but Jordi is not up to the task.

I like Jordi, I know that a lot of people don’t, but I think that’s because they aren’t ready for Kendall to pair up with anyone right now. I could be wrong but imo some of the Zendall fans, will never be ready for Kendall to find a new love.

I would like to see tptb to at least give Kendall (when the time is right) and Dr. Griffin a fair chance to see if they could be a couple.

Why does anyone not liking Jordi and/or Griffin have to automatically have anything to do with Zendall or Zendall fans? Lane’s reply didn’t reference Zendall at all, and many people who are not particularly Zendall fans don’t care for him, from what I’ve seen. Perhaps they just don’t care for his stilted delivery or “I can’t catch my breath” way of talking. Maybe they think that “hot” only goes so far, or that he’s not even really all that hot. Or maybe they just don’t think the character goes beyond one-dimensional and cliche, or want new characters to be eased into the equation rather than thrust at us at every opportunity.

Amen, lane. Amen.

JV…which is it? You had no idea about Zendall being a big deal? Or you knew Zendall had a huge fan base? Lil’ contradictory, there, hon.

Actually, if you read his comment, JV didn’t know going in that Zendall had such a following, but after he met Thorsten and realized how many daytime Emmy noms he’d received, he said “I then knew they had a huge fan base as Zendall”.

It would behoove Mr. Vilasuso to concentrate on his own shoes rather than trying to fill the shoes of Thorsten Kaye. The “death” of Zach has put an irreparable hole in the fabric of AMC for many fans. We waited patiently for the show to realize that Zendall had the ability to be the power couple of the decade, only to watch a succession of writers destroy them and discount their audience. It’s also a terrible thing for many to realize that the magnificent Alisha Minshew isn’t enough to keep us with Kendall. And that her new story with Dr. Lollipop is a pale substitute for the mad chemistry she has with Thorsten Kaye. Just another fail for AMC, I’m afraid.

All this talk about filling TK/Zach’s shoes is a waste of time IMO. Zach had shoes that cannot be filled and AMC and JV would be smart to remember that. JV should be trying to develop his own talents and his own fan base before he tries to latch on to Zendall’s.

I am a long time soap opera watcher – I get that any character can’t mourn forever and will eventually need to move on.. but putting some time and distance between the force of Zendall and any new pairing is a no-brainer. Bringing in a new actor before the dust even falls is simply suicide. Kendall should be trying to stand up on her own two feet. There are many women out there trying to be successful single parents and successful in the workplace. That is a story that people can relate to. How many fans can relate to Dr. Superhero trying to save Kendall’s life, bossing her around, and relating to her in a most unprofessional way? Why does Kendall need saving to begin with? She is a strong KANE woman.

Long before the Internet, fans were able to determine which characters to like (or dislike) based on what appeared on screen. Now, we are subjected to endless interviews by actors, writers, and executive producers who attempt to influence viewers. While I appreciate Jordi Vilasuso’s commitment to his craft, I have to take real exception to his characterization of Dr. Griffin Castillo as a “strong character.” A strong character emerges over time, not instantly. Dr. Castillo has not experienced any adversity on screen that I would characterize as evidence of his strength. Griffin’s history in the DWB program occurred off screen. And while the writers may love “off-screen storytelling,” it does not always resonate (or translate well) with viewers. At least with both Jake Martin and Cara Finn’s characters, their flashbacks offered the viewers an opportunity to “see” their strength as opposed to being “told” about their strength. So until I “see” something more from Griffin than what has been shown so far, or part of an interview by Jordi Vilasuso, I’m not impressed with Griffin as either a cardiologist or strong character.

I found some of Jordi’s comments to be confusing. I’m not sure I understood what he was saying all of the time. However, I did understand that he’s feeling alot of pressure (“tons of it”) because he’s being paired with a great leading lady like Alicia and because the show seems to be depending on him so much. JMO, but when I watch Jordi, I can see that pressure. His acting seems labored to me, like he’s forcing the pairing, while Alicia seems more relaxed and laid back. If you’re told from the start, before you even walk onto the set, that this is your story and it will be amazing, I can well understand the stress he’s feeling. I can even understand why he regurgitates that self-promotion in his interviews, though I wish he’d stop praising himself and the pairing and let the viewers decide for themselves. In addition, because he’s under so much stress, he keeps referring to filling Thorsten’s shoes in his interviews. I wish he’d stop saying that. It’s setting himself up for failure, and more than that, it doesn’t make sense. He’s not a Zach recast. He’s his own “wonderful”, “strong” character. Let’s watch him play that. If he and Kendall take off, that’s great. So far, though, I think that the general consensus is not good, and that’s not just Zendall fans talking. It seems to me that the pressure on Jordi is only going to grow if the fans don’t like what they see. I’d feel sorry for him, but right now, as I watch AMC evolve into something I don’t recognize, all my pity is reserved for me.

Perhaps the best thing that AMC could do for Mr. Vilasuso is to gag him. As if his incredibly bad acting, the ridiculous storylines are not enough to keep me from watching or caring about this actor/character. Alicia Minshew deserves so much better than Dr. Dull. I can only hope that his character fails miserably with enough fans to send him packing.

I Love her so much she’s the best!!! and I think she can take over very fast!

To those who suggest I won’t accept any actor if it’s not TK, let me just add that I just can’t see JV with AM…period. It has nothing to do with my love of Zach/TK, which I admit I have. But I have seen AM work with many actors over the years- Jeff Branson, Colin Egglesfield, Ian Buchanan, etc. She had wonderful chemistry with all of them. No, they were not written as her love interest – but there was a connection there. They sparkled on screen and the screen came alive. Jordi and Alicia have no sparkle at all – and no offense, she can act rings around him and that makes it seem even more ridiculous.

Add that to the horrible predictable writing that often makes NO sense whatsover – such as Griffin complaining that Kendall missing an appointment wasted his time and then he spends hours trying to track her down to tell her. Is that supposed to be professional behavior? That doesn’t seem adorable or lovable. That is all sorts of inappropriate. The writing is not doing anyone any favors.

DeeDeelady please don’t make assumptions. I’m not even a Zendall fan. I am however a fan of good acting and chemistry and thus far I have not been impressed with JV’s acting nor his chemistry with AM and from reading the internet neither are a whole lot of others. I think Jordi needs to take a step back from thinking this couple will be a long lasting one.

I will freely admit to being a rabid Zendall fan whose bias will not allow me to accept any pairing with Kendall–especially this soon. But trying to be as objective as I can, even if I were ready for a pairing it would not be with Griffin/JV. He’s just all wrong for Kendall on every level–from acting considerations to chemistry to character. And JV is not helping with these self-serving interviews that do not respect the feelings of the fans–particularly the Zendall fans who are still mourning the loss of our couple. And I agree with the question–did he know about the popularity of Zendall or did he not? Let’s get our story straight before we spout off about it. In any case, he will never come close to filling the shoes of Thorsten Kaye.

SIGH, I don’t even know where to start. First, I apologize to Michael F. because I really didn’t read this interview. I skimmed through. I’ll tell you why. The last interview I read given by JV infuriated me. If I ever thought about turning AMC on again . . . that interview sealed the deal. I won’t!! Not unless they get Thorsten Kaye back. He was my sole reason for even watching the show. Even after years of being abused as a viewer, I stuck in there, purely for Thorsten Kaye. He was so worth my time and effort. And yes, it took a lot of effort on my part to sit through this show. But again, TK made it all so very worth it.

Note to JV . . . you are not good enough to carry TK’s shoes, let alone fill them. And for the record, most soap viewers prefer “older, more experienced” MEN on our shows.

Deedeelady, let me add that I believe TPTB ARE giving Kendall and Griffin a fair chance right now to be a couple, and if you read the internet at all you will see that the pairing is flopping. Badly. As many have said, the two have absolutely no chemistry whatsoever. Jordi is woefully miscast as a love interest for Kendall. He should be tried out with different women (or girls, really, since he seems to have this thing about age, if you read his recent interview in another mag) to see where actual chemistry exists, instead of being forced into this role that is not only too big for him but obviously full of pressures he can’t handle. I won’t even get into how egotistical and arrogant he comes across in his interviews, but the total package is a turnoff, shirt or no shirt, and the sooner AMC cuts their losses with this pairing, the better.

Geez, I wish the Thorsten Kaye fans would lay off this guy. Thorsten Kaye left, GET OVER IT. Jumping all over Jordi V. and finding insults where none were intended seems petty to say the least. It’s not like it’s his fault the other guy left.

Anyway, thanks for the interview Mr. Fairman. It was interesting to hear from Ricky Paull Goldin and Lyndsay Hartley about their characters. I’ve been enjoying Jake and Cara very much, and their take on the characters’ past, present, and possible future was fun to read. I also liked hearing from Mr. Vilasuso about his character as well, because so far he hasn’t been as much of an instant hit for me. He’s growing on me, though, slowly. I like how frustrated Kendall makes him, and how unwilling he is to admit that she’s gotten under his skin.

Oh Geeze! Poor JV! I happen to like Griffin. I feel he is doing a okay job! However, he immediately (ala: Reese style) was hated and all because he was interviewed and fans were told he was a love interest to Kendall! I am sure some hate him because of his acting but a majority, if admitted, do not like him because he the romantic pairing for Kendall!
TK left and may or may not be coming back! I wish the people would just let it go or stop watching!

I’m happy to see RPG front and center again. I just wish it was a story with his wife Amanda. This whole story seems to center around newbie Cara. HW DK seems to love writing for her. No offense to LH but I’m so sick of Cara already and this story hasn’t even really begun. Both Cara and Griffin are being forced at the viewers at record speed!

I had never seen Ricky Paul Goldin before he showed up on All My Children, but I love him now. And love reading his interviews. It is not right that Chrishell Stause wasn’t invited to be a part of this interview since she is Ricky’s leading lady, not Ms. Hartley. I have watched All My Children for more then 20 years and this is the first version of Jake Martin that I have loved as a favorite character, and it was his dedication to Amanda and the way he refused to let David Hayward break them up that made me fall hard for Jake and Amanda as a couple. They’re the one reason that me and my co-workers keep sticking with AMC instead of giving up on soaps totally. But if Jake ends up with this rediculous character Cara I won’t be hanging around to watch it, I’ll pull the plug on AMC and I won’t be alone.

I’m not completely sold on Griffin/Kendall as a romantic pairing, not at the moment. This is from someone who was a RABID hater of Zendall. I just think they need to write it at a pace that is believable and right now? It isn’t. I’m sick of seeing Kendall spreading eagle for everybody during her moments of ‘grief’. JV is not the best actor in the world BUT I like him. *Shrugs*

Jake and Cara? I’m loving them. Jake and Amanda, even while being husband/wife/with child are boring and reduced to that sleazy couple that need sex and compliments to complete their scenes now. The story between them WAS interesting (even if I was rooting for David) BUT that’s their problem, IMO. They need outside sources to valid them. David, Janet, David and now Cara. They don’t truly have a story. It’s been the same thing for a while now. Plus, I’ve lost a little liking to Amanda during this storyline. She was FEISTY and now she’s just ugh. Jake, I never truly cared for BUT with him and Cara? It seems like he has a personality and isn’t a ass. I think Ricky and Chrishell have done a good job BUT I want to see something else for BOTH the actors and the characters!

It’s really too bad that Thorsten Kaye left. But his reasons are certainly honorable. I liked your interview very much,Michael. I am not a steady viewer of AMC, so I can’t be involved in their story. But, I do like Ricky and hope all the new cast will do well…

It’s good to see Ricky feature more but I feel Jake/Cara are so force and contrive and there isn’t a lick of chemistry between the two characters at all. It’s ridiculous that they have barely let Jake and his “wife” share any meaningful airtime together but we are subjected to endless scenes of him with Cara. Yes CS is recurring but that’s really not good enough of an excuse. If they want to use her and write for Jake/Amanda they would but instead all they can do is concentrate on a newbie like Cara. Which from what I’ve seen from other boards not too many are taking to the character besides the ones who are fans of LH. I personally like to see Jake/Amanda on more with their own story and not be use to prop others. We know the actors can do the drama so let’s bring it on.

I have mixed feelings about this interview. While I enjoyed hearing from RPG I was very disappointed that Chrishell was not included. I hope these writers understand and appreciate how popular Jake and Amanda are. The writers have all but igored these characters since they came on board. Many of us fans don’t like that HW DK’s new creation Cara is taking over the storyline that many were hoping was going to be for Jake and Amanda. Please writers don’t mess a good thing with Jake and Amanda!

Fell in love with RPG when they matched Jake with Amanda. As a longtime AMC viewer and have always rooted for Amanda (CS) and was glad to see her finally get a good guy. Both Jake and Amanda are legacy characters, so I am disappointed the two new characters (the Castillos) are immediately front and center and interlopers with the established PV residents. I don’t need to be “sold” on liking a character, it needs to evolve organically.

Hopeful tptb don’t trash Jake or Amanda in their attempt to provide story to Cara. As a viewer I am hanging on by a thread with the current storylines. I still have hope that AMC will return focus to the classic characters/families.

Loving Cara:-) .Refreshing new character.

For what it’s worth, as a devoted viewer/ardent fan of AMC since the first episode (seriously – far more than 1/2 my life! ), I find the character and actor Griff/Jordi to be heavenly eye candy and a skilled actor, transitioning in a new role under daunting circumstances.
Please consider giving this man a chance to create his own core dynamic as part of this ensemble and back off on the critical eye with comparisons to my (all time) favorite actor, Thorsten. If you recall, in creating the role of Zach, he was not by any means an instant hit, either, in the days of runaway Erica at the original casino or his rescue/romance of Maria. This did not go over well with Edwin’s adoring fans, either.
I repeat: PLEASE GIVE JORDI/GRIFFIN A BREAK , TAKE A BREATH AND LET HIM WORK WITHOUT THE PREMATURE NEGATIVE MENTALITY at the forefront of your assessments. You might appreciate the same courtesy when starting a new job, right?
That is, after all, what this is for him. Try some patience and empathy for a fellow, flawed human being, doing his best at his new job. OK?

No, Pat. I’m not giving him any chances, and neither should ABC. JV isn’t bringing it in, and this sad, dying show can’t afford weight it can’t carry. JV is part of that weight. February sweeps were so dismal that predictions of cancellation are now racing around the boards like a wildfire. AMC needed a hit with Griffin, needed a character that would take off with Kendall in such a manner as to make the loss of Zach less painful. It hasn’t worked. The numbers aren’t there. Most Zen/Zach fans are waiting for TK to return, they’re not accepting this story. Many don’t even want Griffin to say Zach’s name-or have the wonderful Zen scenes copied and diluted for this tepid, uninspired “pairing.” Most of us gave AMC chance after chance, and found ourselves discounted and even abandoned. Now the show wants us back, possibly realizing we were valuable after all.

After reading some of JV’s comments I decided I would NEVER give him or his character a chance. Sorry, its just the way I roll.
But I must disagree with you about TK coming in and not being an instant hit. TK come to AMC with 2 enormously popular roles under his belt . . . Patrick and Ian Thornhart. He brought with him his own fans. I hight doubt JV did that. And, at first, they made Zach the interloper in the very popular coupling of Edmund and Maria so that turned some off. But for many, they wanted Zach and Maria together. Its not easy to do that with such a popular couple. On PC I was a HUGE Lucy and Kevin fan, but soon became a Lucy and Ian fan. And on AMC I adored Edmund and Maria, and soon wanted Zach and Maria. You know the common element here?? Thorsten Kaye. He has a way about him that just makes you adore any character he plays. But I guess that is is age that does that for him, huh??
No, I’ll wait patiently for TK/Zach to return to AMC . . . if it doesn’t get cancelled first.

Mark Consuelos Celebrates One-Year Anniversary as Co-Host of ‘Live’ Alongside Kelly Ripa

Today, April 17th marks a full-year since Mark Consuelos (ex-Mateo, All My Children) took over the co-hosting duties of ‘Live” alongside his wife, and longtime co-host, Kelly Ripa (ex-Hayley, All My Children).

Consuelos replaced Ryan Seacrest who are six seasons decided to be back on the west coast full-time. For Consuelos, now having the opportunity to work off of Ripa as co-hosts has been something of adjustment for him, but viewers have been eating it up.

Live with Kelly and Mark has remained the No. 1 entertainment talk show on television over the past year, growing 3% in average total viewers to 2.23M per episode.  It is also the most-watched daytime talk show in the last year in key demos of women 18-49 and women 25-54. All of this, since the real-life marrieds teamed-up.

Speaking with Deadline, Kelly Ripa shared why the two are gelling on-screen, “I do think that there is something very possibly relatable about our relationship. We have disagreements like a normal couple, and we’re not afraid to let them unfold on the air and in front of America, and I think people find a lot of themselves in that.”

Mark weighed in how he has progressed as a host, and what he could improve at, sharing, “I’d like to get better at my interviewing skills. I’d like to get better at reading a teleprompter…I think I’m getting better at throwing to commercial. The other day in the middle of the show as we go to commercial, my sign off was ‘See you guys around.’ I mean, the show wasn’t over. The most obvious thing to say would be, ‘We’ll be back right after this.’ But I just said, ‘See you around.’ So we went to commercial and one of the producers (goes) ‘What was that?’ I don’t know… So for the next few sign offs, as a joke, I’d say ‘See you around.’ We got a kick out of it.”

Meanwhile, Kelly has given huge props to Mark, “I find Mark utterly compelling, really interesting, super funny, and he’s bold in a way like nobody else. He says what’s on his mind. If he’s thinking it, he says it.  I’ve done this a long time and oftentimes people will adjust their natural personalities to pander to what they think the audience wants to hear, and Mark will tell people what he thinks, and he doesn’t care if it’s not a popular opinion. It gives him an edginess that I think is really missing in the landscape today. Everybody’s so afraid to say anything, and Mark is unafraid to say exactly what he’s thinking.”

In a statement, Debra O’Connell, President News Group and Networks, Disney Entertainment shared, We could not be more thrilled with how Mark has seamlessly joined the show family as permanent co-host. His undeniable charisma and his and Kelly’s natural chemistry are evident as they deliver the laughs and smiles to our viewers each morning. We are incredibly proud of how Live has continued to evolve and that the audience is responding so enthusiastically.”

So, do you think Mark Consuelos is the best co-host his wife Kelly Ripa has ever had on ‘Live’? How would you say he is doing as co-host after one full year on the job? Comment below.
