It’s good to live in Genoa City!  It’s a place where the drama seems to never stop enticing the viewers who like to drop in each day and see what’s happening to many of its famous and infamous residents!

And Thursday, CBS touted that for an unprecedented 27th consecutive year, The Young and the Restless is the number one daytime drama on television. In their official press release, the network related: CBS’ The Young and the Restless marks 1,405 consecutive weekly wins – a total of 27 years – as daytime’s #1 drama, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for the week ending December 11th.  The Young and the Restless currently in its 42nd season, began its winning streak the week of Dec. 26, 1988.

Angelica McDaniel, Head of CBS Daytime and Syndicated Development said: “Spending a few seasons at number one is a remarkable achievement for any show in television today, but to accomplish 27 years at the top is truly Hall of Fame status. This success is a testament to the incredible passion and hard work of the cast, staff and crew on The Young and the Restless led by Jill Farren Phelps and Charles Pratt, Jr., Sony Pictures, Bell Dramatic Serial Company and CBS Daytime. All of our efforts would mean nothing without the most dedicated fans in daytime who have made Genoa City their home, many for years. Congratulations to all involved for this success!”

For the week, The Young and the Restless averaged 4.79 million viewers (up +1% from last week), 1.7/11 in women 25-54 and 1.2/09 in women 18-49 (up +9%).   Season-to-date, The Young and the Restless is averaging 5.08m, second in daytime behind only CBS’s The Price Is Right, and is first among all daytime programs in women 25-54 (1.9/13) and women 18-49 (1.3/10).

In key women demographics, The Young and the Restless has been first in women 25-54 for 459 out of the last 461 weeks and first in women 18-49 in 453 of 457 weeks.

What do you think of Y&R’s impressive streak and accomplishment? Do you think any of the other three network soaps will ever catch them?  What do you think makes Y&R the continual juggernaut that it is?  Is one major component that CBS has built a very solid daytime programming block with a solid lead-in and lead-out for the soap opera?  Share your thoughts below!

Congratulations to Y&R. Good, bad, or in between, thanks for keeping me watching since before you became the #1 daytime drama 27 years ago.

I do not believe it has been #1 through those years, when there were many other great soaps at the time, also..
anyways;
A while back I had a conversation with a science engineer, they know their numbers and odds, I would believe..
His mother watches Y&R and I said ”ohh the soap that has been #1 for near two decades”.
He chuckled and said ” not probable, is it?
I said ”I don’t know but it smells bad to me”
He chuckled again and said ”you have a good sense of smell”

Thing is; The odds of Y&R being #1 without fail of even an year (and Y&R has had some bad years) that somehow someway they are getting numbers from more than one (can’t recall the word) to stay on top with its number not veering out of the range of 5.??? million, not dropping to say 4.1 million.. (in the day of dying soaps)
There are always ways to jiggle numbers when it comes to empire company’s.
I mentioned Y&R was in near 36 other countries.. He smiled .. lol

ie( Y&R has 5 million, the others 2.5 million rounded..
If only half the Y&R viewers also viewed 1 other soap that would add 2.5 million to the soap with 2.5 million giving that soap 5 million, also. (my numbers lol)

opps to be near ” 3 ” decades, not 2 ..

Oh wait until you read Michael Logan with TV Guide’s picks for the best of 2015 you will fall over!

Congrats Y&R for spending 27 years @ #1!
Keep it going!

I have watched this show for so long they seem like part of my extended family. Back to the days when I use to fold diapers and every time I hear the music it takes me back.

27 years at number 1 has to be a record. I don’t ever see any soap catching. One reason Y&R has been number is so many of the actors has been on the show for over 20 years. Y&R hasn’t fired vets like the other soaps have. A majority of the actors I grew up watching are. I can’t recall another soap having has many vets as Y&R does

Seriously, Robert? Don’t get me wrong, here: Y&R is my #1 soap….always will be; but Days beats Y&R, as far as vets are concerned. Just my opinion.

In Britain Coronation Street has been going for 50 years at least. #1 for most of that time.

Your right. Y&R respects their vets, GH puts them out to pasture! I will say this though, Y&R has been letting go of talent left and right these past couple years at a rather disturbing pace. Billy Miller, Michael Muhney, Scott Elrod, Chris McKenna, Michelle Stafford, Liz Henderson to name a few. Some were not signed, some were let go, maybe some left on their own but their gone. I really like Detective Harding and he was released! The actor is very talented and he recently signed on to do a cop show in primetime. But it is nice to turn on Y&R everyday and see familiar faces.

Not to diminish Y&R’s continued success and longevity, but it stands to reason that it’s now much easier to remain the #1 rated daytime drama when there are so few soaps left. It’s akin to being the valedictorian of a graduating class of ten. Just sayin’.

Y&R certainly has a large, extremely loyal audience and has been an entertaining soap over the decades. But I do think that the show has been very fortunate to have such a cushy, high-profile mid-day/lunchtime slot on CBS stations following TPIR (and 12 pm local newscasts on the east coast) that’s very consistent all throughout the country. It’s a force of habit in some ways, IMO.

That being said, hopefully Y&R will survive and thrive well into the future.

y n r has been # 1 since the mid eighties when there were 15 soaps on the air and competition was firece and soaps were on there a game! thats huge!

Outstanding post, Chris. And, en pointe.

Well the present management and producers have little to do with this record– the main reason is an incredibly loyal fan base that was build in the days of Bill Bell– this is his legacy and that fan base seems to be willing to watch this show through all the good, bad and the ugly stories throughout the years. A loyal fan base, keeping their long time talent and a lunch hour time slot in most of the big markets has kept this show firmly on top— but we always need to remember, ratings just rate eyeballs watching, not why they are watching, not whether they enjoy what they are watching, or if what they are watching is any better than other soap out there.

Very well said Mary and you are one of those loyal viewers tell me do you need a hot of Bourbon when you watch. Just kidding!!!!

Shot!!

Bourbon, Brandy, Gin, Wine, Beer, Mouthwash, basically anything with alcohol will do—— and I keep my shoes off and at a safe distance in case I am tempted to throw them at the screen. And if all else fails I will just nod off to sleep and dream what I wished I saw on screen instead of what they gave me.

And I thought of another reason why Y&R remains on top–Obama. He seems to like interrupting GH with press conferences like today and never Y&R.

Extending the best to you and yours this holiday season, a better soap viewing in the New Year.

Speaking of bourbon, have you noticed that Billy Abbott is now drinking vodka and Bloody Marys instead of Scotch? Billy Miller’s Billy always drank Scotch.
Now, as Jason Morgan, Billy Miller is ordering Scotch. I wonder if this is Miller’s personal drink of choice?
And is it okay if I change the subject? Because I do not know where to post the following lament.
WHY oh WHY is Dr Simon Neville being treated like the town pariah when all he did was rescue Hillary upon Neil’s request? Neil is the one who kidnapped Hillary after causing her to fall–he is the one who let his son suffer not knowing what happened to his wife. Now even Neil is acting like Simon is the creepy one and he’s back to acting all Holier than thou. Even his idiotic son is acting like Simon is the creepy one while his dad is a candidate for Father of the Year.
Honestly, I don’t know how this came to be and it’s irksome as hell.

Where I live it is Young and the Restless that is always interrupted with breaking news, Think two shows were missed this week and one last week. Something like that.

@Harry nothing about this storyline with the Winters family makes sense. I sincerely mean it when I say I am sad for Y&R I feel like someone is abusing my child ! I read what is going on and I shake my head and memo to JFP you can’t make us love your friends when you put them in our face five days a week it does not work that way Bill Bell did the same with his daughter it is so unprofessional. I mean do we really need to see the character Garlic Salt five days a week no one cares about her she has been thrust on us and taking air time of characters who put that show Number 1 and this is the thanks they get.

It is impressive, but I don’t think it’s deserved as during this time Y&R has not been good and other soaps have been better. People probably watched out of habit and the hope it would improve and then it did.

Congratulations Y&R on this remarkable feat.

It is the only soap I can watch since I lost All My Children. It comes the closest to being what All My Children was. I try to watch Days but it has so many psychopaths that I had to quit watching it. I will try again when Vincent I. starts. B&B is too silly . Of course I will never watch GH because it is on ABC. Congrats to Y&R, thanks for giving me a soap that I can watch. I also enjoy watching The Doctors and Dynasty is back on the Pop channel which is great fun. Y&R needs to keep Michael Knight. I am not saying this because he was on AMC, I am saying this because he is a fantastic actor.

“FUN” post

I envy those who have POP

question? : has Dr. Neville… ex-Tad the cad… met ED’ Ashley yet?

I would tune in for this

They have. I can see this pairing coming our way. I agree, worth tuning in for this.

27 years of the “Mustache” using Jack Abbott as his whipping boy!

Oh no Their back! Someone actually said not having Summer on for awhile was an early Christmas gift. Bite your tongue. Not just her but she brought Kyle with her. I’m thinking these two may even be used as a fill in when they run out of stories! It would make sense considering neither can act. Neither is liked very much and neither is popular.

NO NO NO!! Summer is back!
why are some prayers not granted .. lol .

The funny thing is that Summer was wearing the exact same shorts ensemble she was wearing a year ago. I remember because she wore if for like an entire month. I don’t think they are spending too much on this young woman’s wardrobe.

It was I Nikki, I jinxed us all! They are the polar opposites of Leo and Kate. They suck and when they are on I see the show sink just like the Titanic!

Three slaps on the side of the head for that one. I actually missed the rest of the show. First I saw her then Kyle and went “no, I have better things to do today”, and turned it off. Maybe (hopefully) it was just pop in but I wrote a couple of letters to the T.V. channel and head of, way back when she was on daily and I said they were shoving her down our throats. If she had any class she would know how people feel about her and leave but I guess she thinks in time people will change their minds. We should wait and see how often she’s on and then decide what to do. I’m hoping her and Kyle are just fillers.

I hope you know I’m joking Timmm. I don’t believe in violence.

I’ve been watching the show since I was in fourth grade. I’m now 41 years old. Absolutely love the show. I feel I’ve grown up with the whole family at Y&R. Thanks for keeping things going all these years.

Lisa Rinna Would Be Down to Reprise Her Role of Taylor McBride in ‘Melrose Place’ Reboot

When Lisa Rinna departed her popular role of Billie Reed on Days of our Lives back in 1995, her next major role would be a jump to primetime and the soapy Melrose Place.

In 1996, Lisa was introduced as new character Taylor McBride and stayed with the Fox young adult sudser for three seasons. Now in 2024, with the recent reveal that a Melrose Place revival is the works with Heather Locklear, Daphne Zuniga and Laura Leighton all on board to reprise their signature roles, would Rinna board the project should it come to fruition?

Speaking with PEOPLE, Rinna expressed, “Well, gosh, I’ve heard about it. I haven’t been approached or anything, but I would love to see what Taylor McBride is up to 25 years later. Wouldn’t that be something?”

Photo: FOX

OG Melrose Place fans know that in story, Taylor moved to the Melrose Place apartment building with her husband Kyle played by Rob Estes. However, Taylor had her eye on Dr. Peter Burns played by former GH star Jack Wagner (ex-Frisco). But, by the time she had moved to the apartment complex, Peter had married tough as nails ad executive, Amanda Woodward, played by Heather Locklear.

Recalling her time on Melrose Place, Rinna added that it, “was one of my greatest and most fun acting experiences, playing Taylor and working with Heather and the whole crew.”  Rinna also noted, “So if they need a Taylor McBride appearance, they know who to call. I’m around.”

The new Melrose Place is in development at CBS Studios. In the premise of the reboot, the Melrose Place residents reunite after the death of one of their friends, “but the pressure cooker of a reunion soon uncovers old traumas, rekindles old romances, reignites old resentments, and reveals new secrets… throwing our characters into chaotic drama that’s reminiscent of the past, but with a much more modern perspective.”

So, would you want to see Lisa Rinna reprise her Melrose Place role as Taylor McBride? Comment below.

Sean Kanan’s Stepdaughter, Juliet Vega, to Appear on The Bold and the Beautiful

Coming up on this Friday’s April 26th episode of The Bold and the Beautiful, Juliet Vega, the stepdaughter to Sean Kanan will make an appearance on the CBS daytime drama series in the role of Michele.

Keeping it “All in the Family”, the character is named after Juliet’s real-life mother, and Kanan’s wife, writer and producer, Michele Kanan.

Back in 2012, Sean married Michele Vega and thus began their blended family which included his daughter, Simone, and Michelle’s children, Peter, Gigi, and her twins, Annie and Juliet.

Photo: JPI

According to a B&B show spokesperson, Juliet’s B&B character is intentionally named Michele in honor of her mother and Sean’s wife.

While we don’t know how “Michele” shows up in story, it is the same episode that Clint Howard makes an appearance as well seemingly tied to the case of where in the world is Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown)?

Photo: CBS

We can’t imagine that Juliet wouldn’t get the opportunity to mix it up on-screen with her stepdad, Sean Kanan. Previously, the two acted together in Sean’s streaming series Studio City, where she played the role of Delilah and he played soap actor, Sam Stevens. In it, Delilah is the bio-daughter Sam never knew he had.

So, looking forward to seeing Juliet on B&B and how ‘Michele’ turns up in the story? Comment below.

Cameron Mathison Previews New Game Show ‘Beat The Bridge’ (Promo)

As previously reported, Cameron Mathison (Drew, General Hospital) will be seen doing double duty this summer when he premieres in June as the host of Game Show Network’s Beat The Bridge.

Now, while Cameron will be the host with the most, that doesn’t mean he will stop playing GH’s Drew.  In fact, Mathison taped the game show in 2023, so it will now air for the first time in 2024.

Taking to his Instagram this week, Cameron shared his enthusiasm and some new hosting snaps, sharing, “Our newest game show host reporting for duty😎 Head over to the Game Show Network YouTube channel for your first look at the show and don’t miss Beat The Bridge premiering this June! I can’t wait for you guys to see this!”

Photo: GSN

In Beat The Bridge, an enormous interactive bridge dares players to cross by stepping on the right answers to challenging trivia questions. As they play, each steps forward and puts money in their team’s bank, with bonus money for each successful crossing. Here’s the catch: the team gets to keep the money only if it can “beat the bridge” by returning one of its players back across before time expires.

Meanwhile, on GH, Drew and Nina (Cynthia Watros) recently had hate-sex. Do you think its a one-time deal? Where will Drew’s story take him next under new head writers, Patrick Mulcahey and Elizabeth Korte? Stay tuned.

Now below, check out the first promo for Beat The Bridge from the Game Show Network with you host, Cameron Mathison.  Then, let us know, will you be checking out the game this summer? Share your thoughts in the comment section.
