THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS: Victor Down, Sharon Clocks Mariah, Adam's Fate!

Several lives were hanging in the balance for different reasons by the end of Friday’s cliffhanger of The Young and the Restless.

As Adam’s (Justin Hartley) trial got underway in the murder of Constance Bingham, it is up to the jury to decide if the black sheep of the Newman clan is guilty, or was the evidence a frame job to bring him down and put him behind bars for a crime he did not commit.  With nutjob Ian Ward (Ray Wise), Adam, and Victor (Eric Braeden) all working angles over mutliple prison meetings with one, or the other, any one could turn on the other at any given chance.  Christine (Lauralee Bell) and Michael (Christian LeBlanc) were once again opposing counsel for a trial, and they each pulled out one major witness.

Michael called Ian Ward to the stand. Ward said Victor bragged about framing Adam in prison.  Chris then calls Victor to the stand, and Victor insists that it was Ian who was framing Adam, and that he loves his son very much. The moustache goes on to say Ian is a pathological liar and denies telling Dr. Meredith Gates (Alicia Coppola) that he had evidence of Adam’s guilt. And for good measure Victor adds, Dr. Gates has developed feelings for him!  Meredith is in the courtroom and is so pissed.

Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott), who is there to support her family even though her and Victor are supposedly splittsville, scurries out the courtroom only to find herself face to face with Ian.  Ward has realized that Adam double-crossed him about an escape plan and he grabs the bailiff’s gun during a scuffle.  Victor walks out of the courtrom and is shot by Ian and falls to the ground.  Ian takes off with Nikki.

As for Adam: before the trial Kevin (Greg Rikaart) informed him that he still cannot identify the woman in the security footage with Victor that could be a major clue to him being framed.   And during the trial, it was Justin Hartley who delivered the episode’s best performance with nuanced and subtle emotions that registered in his eyes and in his face as witnesses, and Adam’s father took the stand.   Hartley was also particular strong in a a moment when Adam was saying goodbye to his wife Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) before the trial.  Once again, all of this illustrated why Hartley continues to be an actor on top of his game.  But When all is said and done. what will be Adam’s fate?  Will he be a free man?

Elsewhere, Sharon (Sharon Case) is off her meds for her bipolar disorder and it’s taking a toll.  Mariah (Camyrn Grimes) confronts her on the situation, and appears with Sharon’s pill bottle.  Mariah questions her mother as to who Faith heard her yelling at.  Sharon admits she went off her meds to stop the nightmares she has been having and it worked.  Then a vision of Sage (Kelly Sullivan) emerges calling Sharon out saying, “You’re such a liar.”

Courtesy/CBS

Mariah continues to probe Sharon.  It finally dawns on Mariah that Sharon is seeing Sage and conversing with a dead woman.  Mariah pleads with Sharon: “You have to do something now!” Just then a taunting Sage steps in front of Mariah and gloats at Sharon about how Sharon will do anything to hold onto a man.  Sharon looses it!  She screams out to Sage:  “Shut up!”  All of a sudden, Sharon grabs a bookend to stop her vision of  Sage, but in reality clocks Mariah!  Down goes Mariah as Kevin walks in on the scene and wonders … what the hell just happened?

Watch the final seconds of Friday’s episode below.  Then let us know: What did you think about Victor getting shot and Ian taking off with Nikki?  Do you think Adam will be found not guilty of the murder of Constance Bingham?  In actuality, who is framing who?  What did you think about Sharon bashing her own daughter with a foreign object?  Share your thoughts in the comment section below!

Isnt Meredith Ian’s daughter???

No, Jimmy. She is some judge’s daughter. She has, it seems, huge Daddy issues; and, I think this is why she was drawn to Victor.
The serpent (Victor) really and truly worked her, to the point where she put him on this insurmountable pedestal. So, to her, reaching him in any way was a blessing; a reward.

Bur she was adopted by him

Meredith will go bat crazy and try and hurt Victor or perhaps his FAMILY who he is EVER protecting! Its not going to end well.

@Timmm.
You may be right, Timmmy. As I said, Meredith has so many issues. Now, if Victor and Nikki re-connect for the umpteenth time, Meredith’s jealousy will consume her making her react violently.

If I have my story straight, Mariah is Cassie’s twin sister, whom she was seperated from at birth. Supposedly Sharon was so drugged and out of it while giving birth, she didn’t realize that fact until a fee years back when Victor was trying to dirve Sharon crazy, (I forgot why), with this Cassie look alike. Come to find out the woman who took Mariah was involved with Ian ward and his cult and Mariah was raised their. If memory serves me right when Ian was running around free a couple of years back, he kidnapped Mariah and tried to marry her after he drugged her of course, but she was saved by Nick and Sharon. My mind escapes me in my old age, but I am pretty sure that’s the gist of it

Hi, Soapqueenforever,
Jimmy is asking about Meredith, not Mariah.
Lol…but, you got the Mariah story right. Bless you, my lady.

No.. she was just his best cultie ..

no here father is on the parole board at the prison………………

Exactly, elm.
That was Victor’s main reason, originally, for befriending Meredith…..which then developed into a disgusting relationship of a different kind. Yuck and double yuck.
But, now, as we witnessed in court, Meredith has used up her allotted time with Victor. She has served her purpose.
She is no child, and she does have a brain….not an easy task becoming a doctor. One would think she’s pretty long in the tooth to be so naive with men….especially old men. I keep reminding myself that it’s : FICTION, FICTION!! LOL.

Speaking of Meredith, after both she and Jack realize what spineless fools they’ve been, they should get together.

Hi, Jimmy.
Meredith, the prison doctor is not Ian’s daughter. As elm1951 wrote, Meredith’s father is a judge on the prison’s parole board. I believe that Victor was obnoxiously and sexually nicey-nicey to her because he used her as a vehicle to get her father to give Victor leniency. It didn’t work.
Mariah, Sharon’s daughter is not Ian’s adopted daughter. She knew him in her past because she was a member of his ‘cult’, and as su000 replied; Mariah was Ian’s favorite ‘cultie’.

How many times can Victor get shot, stabbed, manhandled, lose his memory and survive? A younger body, maybe; but, even then it’s a stretch…..nine lives?
Please, writers….give us something we can masticate, delight in its flavor and give a big sigh or relief thinking…”….. Wow!! What a great original, emotion-gripping story.

You cant kill a monster-lol

You’re right, Jimmy. I never thought about it like that! Voila!! There’s the answer. I wonder if he has an Achille’s heel?

On top of all this ridiculous BS, let’s not forget , the Mustache is a heart transplant patient!

I keep forgetting about that, Timmmy. Man of steel? Poor Colleen. Couldn’t her heart have gone to someone else?
Surprisingly enough, Meredith worries about giving the Great One antibiotics ….what about his heart pills? Meds for transplant recipients are a lifelong need.

Tim…as far as I’m concerned, that so-called heart transplant has made Victor EVEN WORSE!!!!! Just saying……….

Later, dude.

With epilepsy

Hi dear, I agree with your comments concerning Victor and Jacks ages and their stories. BUT, they have been on forever and ALL the stories revolve around those two so they must stay relevant. I noticed the other day Jack sitting at the bar and they showed his hand picking up his glass of club soda and it was a grandpa hand! Men are no different than women, age first appears in the hands and neckline. Luv ya!

I grt that, Timmmy. Of course, these characters need to remain relevant….not questioning that. Jack and Victor make up a goodly percent of the show…..believe me, I do not want them gone. Just ‘ease’ them up a bit.
As I’ve already said, they should be given age-approptiate roles. It’s like looking at my grandfathers chasing skirts, acting like the youthful, hot studs, which they are NOT; and, Victor donning his Captain Courageous cape, as he flies against the wind to rescue his wife.
Really? Again, where does he get the stamina? Not real, Timmmbo……Yes, it’s a soap, but it has become too cartoonish….even for a soap.

PS.
Hey, Timmmy. Do you think Luca is en league with Ian? I am just getting these vibes.
Then again, I like blaming everything on him. There really is no reason for Luca to be on board; except as a wedge of dissension among the other characters; or, as a foil for Nick.
He will soon be gone once the circus disassembles. Show over. Love you, too.

if christen was sully then who was the baby that died

No baby DIED, judy. It was all pretend. Just a lie. The bad doctor made that story up.

The hospital had the “baby” cremated.

There was no other baby.

Christen is Sully..

no baby died – they told nick & sage their baby died but they never saw the baby’s body………………..

Exactly, elm1951….which is so dumb, right?
When Sage demanded to see Christian’s body, the nurse told her that for her own sake it would be wise to remember Christian as he was when alive.
That cockamamie excuse was so feeble. What mother/father would not want to see her/his baby? Weak writing!!

In today’s world, hospitals have allowed photographs to be taken of babies that die unexpectedly so that parents can have lasting memories and to help with the grieving process.

While I love Adam and Chelsea, I find the murder trial story just ridiculous. However I am all over the Sharon and Mariah and Sage story. The plot device – switched baby — is tired but Sharon and Mariah together is necessary for great chemistry and the ability to draw the audience in. They are so magical together. God I hope they keep this team together for more stories in the future. They are EVERYTHING. Good job on Friday’s cliffhanger and most of all I have to say that even with all the backstage drama and hirings and firings I am loving Y&R right now. Just fun and exciting to watch.

I like the murder story, but I agree with you about Sharon and Mariah and the baby switch. I also think that somehow, Sharon and Adam are going to be reunited … since they are the only ones that know the paternity of Christian/Sully besides Mariah. Time will tell.

I am pretty certain Sharon has no idea Adam is Christian’s father, Drake. I may be wrong, but if she knew, she would not have all these guilt pangs where Nick is concerned.

Sharon and Mariah are my favorites too. I think Camryn Grimes is the most talented and attractive cast member. I do wish they’d write a story for Sharon where she isn’t so sick and she successfully manages her mental illness. I guess that’s not as dramatic though.

MBMOm–I so agree. I adore Mariah and Sharon and you’re right—Camryn Grimes is so damned talented. I want her to have her own story.

Camryn is a natural, BMmomof3. Her acting is so effortless; one wonders if she is, indeed, acting. For one so young, she should be a mascot for this show. Perhaps, she can give Hunter, Gina and Mishael a few tips.

Completely agree! Camryn is incredible…love her!

I agree, Mateo. Sharon and Mariah are one of a kind pair, as mother and daughter finding each other.
And, I wish the same continuity on the show, as a team for them, as well.
But, what of Sharon? The writing is on the wall….’things’ just can’t remain as they are. What will happen to Sharon when everything is finally said and done?
What about Nick? Will he ever find out Christian is not his son? Poor guy!!

This show has scraped the bottom of the barrel – preposterous, plot-driven nonsense as perpetuated by Chuck Pratt!

It gets worse on Monday’s show…

you got that right. Y&R is in really rough shape

Its #1 in the ratings.

I just watched part of Tuesday’s show-awful and I do not follow the show much.

I’m just going to say it–Eric Braeden is a very talented actor who keeps getting better.
I do think he’s underrated as an actor and some viewers merge the character with the actor.
He rises above the material handed to him and makes it work.
That said, it seems like the writers are making this story up as they go along but bravo to Eric–I just love him

I miss the old days when Victor had a soft spot I think CP has made him one note this is not the character BB created. As for Jack let us all know when h finds his balls???

it flummoxes me : that CBS did not do enough… to “keep” Michael Muhney and Billy Miller

I swear to God.. and then some… that the torch was being passed… from Eric Braedon “son” Adam… and Peter Bergman “brother” Billy

with the loves of their life… oh god I miss this… Victoria and Sharon

it was all set…. ON FIRE

that ole cliché we can never go back

and NOW… the character of Jack Abbott… WHO , singularly … carried the Abbott fam… is WRITTEN out of character lame and .. he had balls… (wink @K/kay)

all the creative path they had…. gone

with Victor ( like Sonny @GH) is given one dimensional… and no other source of meat

it saddens me quickly how Jack is : “Just Jack” what a gangbuster miss

it’s not even that he “right” his younger brother Billy

he and “RED” are forever bonded… argh! it’s just not jiving with the write

Jack is gone

so the trail blazes with Eric Braedon

I don’t know.. we posts can go all the way back to the start

I never liked his character from the start

I don’t get the audience pull

never you “mind” nuMAN… it was all Katherine

I cry about Jack

I’m sick of Victor

Justin Hartley and MIchael Muhney smoked this part… FIRE

ON

what a beam smile and LOL treat
Michael Muhney

dream on

Victor met Katherine … she reigned

so the writers have changed direction on Victor Jack and … the whole damned net

DAYS is in a fix mode

you know… don’t fix what aint broke

the show lost Michael Muhney and Biller Miller

they fell back on Victor and Jack

Jack isn’t in this

you know… the balance always tips without

Sharon Case… the “only” thing about the thread… was her assessment on “Mariah”

DAMN IT

it’s further proof that Case has a point … she gassed up on Camryn Grimes and Romanced full throttle Adam.

gamut cover

you know… i’m sick of the Newmans

Victor is well imagined… done
Nikki… is never fun…. without the bottle… the adhere to MR. “right” lamed out

Nikki never has a path… so she nips…

LOL I LOVE this woman

you know.. premise of MAN

Nikki and Sharon are both from the “wrong” side of the tracks

so I endear them

have always plodded along and breaked till I see a shine in their horizon

they are so much interesting than Victor and Nick

I never tuned back in to this show… without Ashley

she got a two year contract to return to DAYS

nada wink of an eye or late

where has this woman been ?

she smoked on DAYS
hasn’t been in Y&R in years

I’m so glad she’s in the forefront … I LOVE HER

whew!

she got a two year contract to return to DAYS

CORRECTION: two year contract @Y&R

No one is disputing Eric’s talent, Harry. He is tops….have always maintained that.
It is not his fault he is given these asinine storylines fit for a much younger man. However, he tries to make it work, but he falls short of doing so because these scenarios are fantastical……such as him having sex with the prison doctor. Why give this actor such an unpalatable story? I eill never understand how these writers’s minds work. Really?
It would be so much more plausible if he were a young guy. But, even then, it’s a stretch. He is OLD with health issues, to boot. As Timmm mentioned…..he is a heart transplant patient.

Celia, I wrote my comment before any of the other comments manifested themselves here. I wasn’t saying anyone here was disputing his talent–I was speaking in generalities.
On another note. I now am an official member of The I-Hate-Billy-and-Phyllis club. Man, they couldn’t emasculate Jack anymore if they had dressed him up in a ball gown and put pink lip stick on him. Phyllis gets drunk on his birthday so she won’t have to sleep with him and she has a look of abject disgust wash over her face when Jack tries to get romantic with her. Then Billy comes over and they do the dirty deed in the Abbott cabin. And Jack just fawns all lover her. Yuck! I hate this story–those two horn dogs make me sick.

@Harry.
Oh, I know, Harry. I speak generally, as well. I devour your comments because they are true to form and enlightening. We may not agree all the time. But, I absorb what you have to say, always. You are a true sage in my estimation.
I told you this before. ….you, my Dad and my two Grandas should get together….your reasoning is so similar; and I would love to be be a fly on the wall listening to your shared conversations and repartees.

i do agree….we must give credit to EB for his sharp mind. What about John Aniston (Dool) ….another great older actor. My problem with the Victor Newman role is the fact that his stunts are not en par with the actions of an old man. I am not saying the word in a pejorative way, by any means. But, he is too old for most of these shenanigans….. That’s a fact.

EB had some talent a long time ago, but it hasn’t been on display in quite some time. He can’t recite his lines or apparently even remember them with any consistency. Putting him front and center in these deplorable storylines may feed his ego but it’s hurting the show. Time for a long, long vacation from both the character and the actor. And FIRE Pratt, please.

Well I don’t know how old EB is but I am in my late fifties and I sometimes forget what I just read, so I am impressed EB can even remember some of all those lines they need to learn on a soap– and he still can deliver a line better than some on the younger actors they brought on– I remember a few years back they wrote EB off the show while they were trying work out a new contract with him, and the show just wasn’t the same and viewers wanted Victor back. So I don’t think it is just his ego that drives writers to focus on the character, the truth is Victor is simply the most interesting character or was, because ITA Pratt turned all the characters into stereotypes that it is hard to empathize with anyone– so I wouldn’t cry if Pratt was shown the door,–but I got nothing but mad respect for EB, I just hope I am as sharp and as active as he is at that age.

Really, Boes? When he was reflecting upon his relationship with his father and his son, he had real tears glinting in his eyes.
And his recitation of the the Robert Frost poem was impeccable.

Ah, an EB fan, love it!

Earlier Harry, I agree, Jack and Meredith should hook up and run away! [Not the Abbott cabin, my god!]

I recognized Frost’s (my favorite scripter ever….) THE ROAD NOT TAKEN before Eric/Victor finished the first line, Timmmy and Harry….I posted it right away. I did say the recitation was impressive.
I do not like Victor. However, the character is separate from the actor.
I do agree eith Boes, as well, though. EB should be given realisric stories according to age, as I said about Peter B.
Too acrobatic scenes for an old man….i said this already. It is not realistic.
Prime example: he has been shot; he is old; he must be weak from loss of blood….but there he is on his white charger up and away to the Abbott cabin ( which looks like a regular house in the makeshift woods).

Judy, Sharon had a miscarriage, then evil Dr Anderson kept Sharon doped up and had her believing she was still pregnant. When Sage gave birth, Christian was taken to the NICU. When Christian got better, Dr. Anderson told Nic & Sage the baby died. She then convinced Sharon she had given birth and passed Christian off as Sharon & Dillon’s baby. Adam is actually the bio dad-that secret not public yet.

Sharon believed that she was pregnant again, not still, after her miscarriage. She did not tell Dillon because she was going to trick him by getting pregnant again. A sure sign of Sharon’s mental instability.
She was taking her temperature to make sure she was ovulating …..her body ready for conception.
Dr. Anderson did not make Sharon believe she was still pregnant.
Sharon was fully aware she miscarried. But, she was sure ( in her dick mind) she conceived again. Anderson encouraged it, in order to accommodate her deranged plan.
To support this delusion, Sharon had an hysterical pregnancy, or false pregnancy where she truly believed she was pregnant. She actually imagined her belly grow….that is what her mind saw.

That should read sick, not the other word. Wow!! What a blunder. Sorry, guys!!

So when does the new guy take over? Can’t happen soon enough.

around the end of July

I’ll agree that Victor about to be redeemed and reevaluated is a dumb and “been-there” story. But how about another chance to praise Ray Wise as Ian. This man is a real treat to watch and seems to be having the time of his life playing this role. I love when a reliable character actor gets a major role to shine in, like F. Murray Abraham did in AMADEUS. But, sadly, I always did think Ian was framing Adam in order to make Victor look bad, as well as personal revenge for the Tower fire incident. If I had to guess, Adam was looking at a conviction for certain and I hope this will stop that mistake from happening. On the other side of town, Sharon has completely lost it, AGAIN, (poor Sharon Case) and we’re in for more boredom regarding Sully. On the plus side, I get to see more of Kevin and am loving his longer, messy hair (Sorry, have had a thing for Greg R since he joined the show.)

Do you think Ian is framing Adam while Victor is meeting with the secret lady to try to prove Ian’s guilt? There has been talk that the secret lady is none other than Chloe. I can see Chloe wanting to make sure Adam pays and not look for his innocence. Hmmmm….

Hey, Drake,
That’s what I said, on the other site. That is, Ian is framing Adam just to give himself a way to escape. He succeeded…how far will he get?
I will enjoy every minute of this guy on the screen. He is methodical and calculating….so, I wouldn’t put it past him….just as I wouldn’t put it past Victor. However, at this point, it does seem as if Ian is the culprit.
And, yes, Chloe may very well be the redhead. She has every reason to want Adam put away, albeit I do not believe Adam hit Delia.
I wish “they” would tie that story up, as well.

Drake & Celia, sounds like we’re on the same story wave. Chloe has a motive against Adam, so I haven’t figured out why she’s working with Victor, unless I’m wrong about Ian. I guess this is an okay mystery after all. That is, until we get to the Chloe edition of “whose baby is it” again. I hope it’s Kevin’s. At the rate Billy is self-destructing, he doesn’t deserve another child, and Kevin was so adorable with Delia, he deserves a chance to be a bio dad also.

If it isn’t Chloe, it has to be Esther. Or, is Victor somehow getting Marissa to do some dirty work, in return for “his grace” and “approval” for her relationship with Noah?

I agree, Soaphound…LOL. I love Ian….his understated ‘mirth’ is so entertaining….I never get enough of him.
It’s too bad he is a ‘bad’ character who, in my opinion, cannot be redeemed……and, neither should Victor. However, as I repeat incessantly, Victor is a necessary evil.

Oh Celia, I’m afraid you’re right. As maddening as he is, we need Victor. I can’t imagine the show without the classic “I’ll be damned” or “You were nothing but a pole stripper! And now I can’t stand you!” Even his stay in prison has been unsatisfying for me, since he’s managed to do nothing but wreak more mayhem and heartbreak.

Celia…I love me some Ian Ward…LOL!!!!! To me, Ian is W-A-Y MORE ENTERTAINING than that grumpy old dinosaur Victor!!!!! Ian Ward…that ENTERTAINING AS H-E-L-L SILVER-HAIRED DEVIL…Y-A-Y!!!!!!!!!!

Later, my friend.

@Abruzzfan.
I thought the same thing when Lily, the attorney ( not) said Hilary would get half of what Devon is worth. That truly is laughable.
I don’t know Wisconsin’s divorce ‘law’, but, I doubt the writers know either.
Regardless, there is no way; no way; no way!!!! ….was there a prenup?
And, you’re right. Most states only allow half of any accumulated monies during the duration of the marriage, unless other arrangements are made between them.
Anyway, Hilary is off roping and branding another rich dogie (Jack). Bad, bad girl. One would think that because of her illness, she’d have acquired some humility. Hmmmm!!

I had a smile on my face through so many of ‘Ian’s’ lines ~ the actor is a delight!

Y&R is so lucky to have Ray Wise. He steals EVERY scene! Love him!

Finally,a watchable Y&R episode! I loved crazy Sharon bonking “Sage” in the head! Sillily stuff though, the balif wouldn’t have had his gun in his waistline and Ian couldn’t realistically drag Nickii out of the courthouse . Even if a child would resist , it would be difficult to get them to go. The Datk Knight rises, AGAIN!

I agree. I loved the episode and love that there are so many unknowns about how this will play out and so many characters involved. The only storyline I do not like right now is Hillary.

I agree! between the clocking of Mariah, and the kidnapping of Nikki I think that hopefully we are going to see a little life brought back into the show. I am only hoping that Hilary and Jack don’t wind up doing “the deed”. It’s bd enough we had to witness Sharon and Victor taking that long walk up the stairs. We can only be thankful we didn’t see any after the fact cuddling scenes. Thank God. I just hope Jack and Hilary don’t bond in the hospital and continue the bonding once she is released. I really don’t think they are going to kill her off, because if they do, that would leave the character of Lily floundering. Because with Hilary dead, what and who would Lily have to bitch and moan about

ANYTHING connected to the Winter’s family blows!

The Hillary story is ridiculous. She has been married to Devon for a year, and she would supposedly get half of his entire fortune that was inherited???? That is ridiculous! How would she get the Hotel? He had all that before he married her? She could possibly get half of the new money earned while they were married. That’s about it.

Again the great thorn in my side is Sharon has a MOOD DISORDER, which DOES NOT cause a person to BREAK with REALITY and see people who are not there. It does such a disservice to the many people around the globe who are bipolar.

If she was in a manic state she could be capable of injuring Mariah but not because she was seeing Sage and thinking she was hitting Sage, so the story could work without using the worn out device of bringing back the dead as a ghost or illusion of the mind-

As for the whole shooting and hostage taking those scenes were so filled with holes that it was laughable but hey, it’s summer time, and I am feeling mellow, so I am willing to overlook all that and just enjoy it, even if the outcome is as predictable as my ice cream melting in heat– LOL

Thank you, Mary. Yes, folks with bipolar disorder do not hear voices or suffer from hallucinations. They certainly do not clobber someone over the head with a heavy bookend mistaking them for a ghost who is tormenting her.

All of what you and MarySF say is gospel truth, Harry, but given that Pratt has never met a character whose personality he wouldn’t sacrifice for the sake of the story he wanted to tell, it’s not exactly a surprise he’d treat mental disorders in ways that contradict proven medical science.

The soaps don’t have a great track record where psychological disorders are concerned. There have been a handful of truly great stories through the year written by skilled writers who took the time to educate themselves and then were able to educate viewers. Most stories along this line, however, treat the disorder as nothing more than another plot device. Pratt’s hardly alone in that, but it’s not a good enough excuse (and as MarySF pointed out, it does a real disservice to those who have bipolar and, I’d argue, to viewers in general).

Absolutely, Harry. You and Mary speak the truth. This is why I always see red when these writers do not do their research. Yes, granted, it’s a soap. But, ‘they’ pull ideas and falsehoods out of their ahhh….hats, for convenience.
Sharon is not acting as a person suffering from bipolar disorder. She is just downright nuts, loco, crazy, insane…..

Although I do agree that Sharon’s bipolar disorder is not being accurately portrayed, people who are in an acute manic state do experience hallucinations and can see and hear people who are not there. One of the main reasons is because the manic state interferes with their sleep pattern and after getting little rest over the course of a few days, they experience psychotic symptoms like hallucinations and delusions. Its quite common actually and I have a relative with bipolar and I know that she hallucinates and hears voices when she is off her meds.

Thank you for the correction– everything I ever read or heard about the disease focussed on how it affects someone’s mood, but when I got your reply I google it and you are right, in some cases, like not sleeping, or acute mania episode those with bipolar can have psychotic symptoms, like hearing and seeing things not there— although as you stated the show is most likely taking liberties even with that aspect of disease, but at least now my blood pressure can relax knowing they haven’t gotten it completely wrong. The great thing about the web is we learn something everyday, and so thank you for teaching me something I didn’t know. I will keep your relative in my prayers– again thanks for letting me know my error.

Exactly…she went off her meds. Her sleep patter is awry…..thus, the insanity.

You’re welcome Mary. And thank you for your kind words about my cousin. She can be quite the handful. If you want to see a pretty good portrayal of bipolar disorder, the writers at GH do it well. The character of Sonny and now his son Morgan suffer from bipolar disorder. The kicker is that the actor who portrays Sonny, Maurice Bernard, suffers from this illness in real life so I’m sure he helps keep the writing realistic. Sharon’s illness is strictly used as a plot device to put her in unrealistic and wacky situations while blaming her illness and eliciting some sympathy.

Victor will live.
His family will gather around him and all will be forgiven.

Mariah will have amnesia and no longer be a threat to Sharon’s secret and or she will tell all to save Sharon from herself.

Adam will go free .

no worries .. lol

Well, su, I refuse to forgive Victor.

God give me my Adam back and stop with the stupid storyline with Chelsea and him I personally don’t give a shirt that they are friends off screen we are acting people not a lunch best friends dare save our show

Lol your posts, no matter the soap, continue to be inane. Ending each one with lol doesn’t make you less than what you are.
Lol

very stupid writing. the writing for Sharon is terrible. i don’t recognize Y&R anymore

Why is it that Chuck Pratt always condenses his courtroom scenes into half an episode?? Most good soaps (even Y&R) would have a trial last a few weeks at least, but not Chuck Pratt. He zips through that material (maybe it’s too hard for him to write) too quickly, and we miss a lot of possibly good drama.

The worst of the show was at the end, when I swear it sounded more like Nikki barking like a dog, when Ian was “dragging” her away. “Victor, Victor, arf, arf.” Come on Mal Young, fire these incompetent writers now.

Sorry, the last thing I want to see is a 2-week trial. No way.

Drake…me, too. Dude…if I wanna watch a TV show with trial scenes/courtroom scenes in them, I’ll watch episodes (past, present and future) of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Y-e-p.

Take care, Drake.

@Jaybird.
You too, Jaybird? I love that show. ….can’t sleep; so, that’s what I’m watching right now on the USA channel.

Right, and Christine is torture to watch in the courtroom.
Her voice alone puts me to sleep

Too funny, but true!

My feeling is that the court scenes are always condensed because there is no long term story in place for the trial to result in an emotional payoff; the recent Y&R trials always seem to just be a story point to get to the next story point. If you look at classic soap opera trials, there was always a year or more of careful build-up to get to the trial and the subsequent witness stand revelations (memorable examples are Karen Wolek’s testimony on ONE LIFE TO LIVE, Jennifer Richards’ testimony on GUIDING LIGHT, and Annie Dutton Lewis’ meltdown during Reva’s trial on GUIDING LIGHT).

Alan…TOTALLY!!!!! Those were the days. To this day, one of my ALL-TIME FAVORITE soap trials is STILL Karen Wolek’s trial on OLTL. To me, Karen’s trial was RIVETING AND EPIC!!!!! Yep.

Take care, Alan.

Would you like for me to tell you the actors that walked off the set with their temper tantrums threw chairs at directors ? Got a list

KAY! Yes! Is this a trick question? Do tell.

Harry…A-M-E-N!!!!! I never liked Christine. At all. To me, Christine is nothing but an annoying, humorless and self-righteous SOUR-BALL!!!!! Yikes.

Later, dude.

YES! I want names, dates, and times. Seriously, any actor that exhibited this type of behavior would be disciplined or fired. Wasn’t JFP (law and order) instrumental in calming the waters behind the scenes?

You guys are funny nancy this happened years ago and yes you would be schooled but sweetie not going to drop names Mr. Fairman would line it and not going to slander anyone we have too much of that in this world! My dad always called it that person is getting to big for his britches I still not sure what tha means! Remember everyone today who serves our country tprotec us from evil !

Oops I screwed up Harry and Lillian soryy

Well, I think it would be safe to say one of the actor’s character’s name rhymes with Cruella .

Jill Farren Phelps is the reason that Beverlee McKinsey quit Guiding Light in 1992. Beverlee hated where her storyline was going, and wanted fewer days to work, and JFP told her to go read her contract. Unfortunately for JFP, Beverlee did and exercised her clause to walk away, making JFP look like a complete idiot.

JFP was fired from Y&R and not one current actor, associated with the show for over a year, has said anything – good or bad – about her departure. The new EP (MY) was congratulated only by the newest cast members. Beverlee McKinsey is the reason why I started watching GL! But McKinsey was not an actor on Y&R.

all the holes in the stories aside….i.e. kevin randomly barging into sharons home
, the cliffhanger ending was exciting, all the plots had suspenceful wats going to happen next!…

I can’t believe how Y&R squandered the infinite potential of the Ian Ward character. Ray Wise is an amazing actor and with more skilled writing Ian Ward could’ve been a master manipulator and classic villain like ONE LIFE TO LIVE’s Mitch Laurence.

I love Ray Wise as Ian Ward. He could be as deliciously evil as the creepy Mitch Laurence.

I dont know what Ray’s commitment is like but I would LOVE to see him go to GH and play a mob boss and hand Sonny his coffee beans in his hand!

I don’t quite know how to define Ian Ward; but, no matter how unpredictably evil he can be, I can’t seem to hate him; or dislike him, even. That flashy smile of his is blinding……like sunshine. And, his eyes…….They dance with mockery…..I can only equate it to ‘the cat who ate the cream’…..as if he is privy to something no one else is.
I wish he could skip over to GH and give Sonny what for, Timmmy.

Try real hard but ant/is not cutting it for me nor is JH/Adam ! And now that JFP is gone could we romance BM back I know the laser year I
He was phoning it in but he was unhappy with her. MM has moved on and they have literally damaged his career over a internet rumor.

It was not an internet rumor, kay. From ehat I read, it was a possible sexual harassment accusation.

Sharon should have smacked Mariah a long time ago…

Too funny, James….

Hi Celia! Thanks for your reply! It’s always a pleasure interacting with you!

My comments are now minimal as my soap viewing has basically become nil… And I don’t know whether that will change…

But I still check in at times to see what is going on, and it’s heartwarming to see you and all the other sweet people here. My best to you always, Friend!

@Jamesj75.
The pleasure is mine, James. I have noticed you checking in once in a while….miss your insight.
Stay well, my friend….soon!!

Thanks so much, Celia!

James…oh, yes. And, remember…when Mariah first came to Genoa City, she was hired by Victor to drive Sharon C-U-C-K-O-O!!!!! Y-e-p.

Have a good one, Brother.

Exactly, jaybird369! Thanks for the backup, Friend!

You just gave me an idea, Jay. What if it’s Mariah and not Chloe who is our mystery woman?

Enjoyed the eps for the most part. Dylan is so ridiculous. Why do trials in GC happen a week after the person is arrested? And Ian and Victor would have been brought into court from the back door and there would have been more than one guard with them. Security is so lax. Dylan telling Adam his bond will be revoked is so stupid. Dylan is not a judge. He has no authority to make that decision. Paul telling Dylan to call for back-up–why didn’t he do it? Dylan was running after someone.

Not enjoying Billy and Phyllis together. I hope Jack catches on and kicks her to the curb big time.

Oh, Mo,
How I do understand, my friend!! I have run out of words where the Dylan and Paul and this fake police department are concerned. Victor & Company, the boring and fatalistic happenings have become sooo frustrating, I only watch out of loyalty.
I have not enjoyed Gina’s rendition of Phyllis from the beginning. I loved her as Kelly on OLTL, but as Phyllis? NAH!!!!! Her acting falls short for me.
Plus, I expected too much from Jason Thompson….so, that’s on me. Besides, in my head, Billy Miller is irreplaceable.
Together, this Billy and this Phyllis are disgusting. I would have felt the same repulsion had the couple been Billy M and Michelle S. To me, this is a territory upon which should not have been trod.
Jack is not one of my faves, either. I don’t really care because he is now getting his just desserts for his past misdeeds. What goes around comes around. Also, he should be now written according to his age…not as a man in his 40’s.
If there is one side of this writing which I do appreciate; it’s that the writers are showing just this very thing: KARMA. ….if this was, at all, their intent.

I too like Gina as Kelly. I have wanted to like her as Phyllis, but something is missing. And why does she whisper her lines?

I think JJ from Days and Dylan are graduates of the same police academy.

I get that GC is, I guess, a small city, but Paul seems too personally involved in all the cases/crime that happens in GC. A police chief has to be in the office doing paperwork some of the time. I doubt he’d have time to be in court watching his wife do her thang.

hi celia..

Jack is as alluring and sexy as toenail clippings..

Viagra Man !!!!

Nothing against Steve Burton but his character on Y&R is getting more and more laughable! But, then again, Steve is probably laughing all the way to the bank!

JJ on Days is laughable too. Rookie cop investigating his sister’s disappearance–giving others orders and dressing down officers with years more seniority. It’s so ridick!

Mo…Y-E-P…T-H-A-N-K G-O-D that Dylan is not a judge!!!!! I mean…he TOTALLY SUCKS as a cop right now!!!!! BEYOND INSULTING!!!!!

Have a good one, Mo.

Y&R took pages from the GH playbook. Characters solve their own crimes with little or no help from the police department. Police officers, attorneys, and hospital personnel deserve better representation. Adhering to protocol is a plus for any storyline.

The Sharon story and the characters involved in it are annoying me at best! Mariah should not only tell Dylan and let this story start unraveling. Mariah keeping it a secret is absurd. Sharon is not well and the idea of helping her by faking therapy is stupid. but Charles Pratt all the way.

Let’s hope that IAN is killed this time. Characters thrown into his orbit are rendered stupid. Michael let’s the guy be a witness with little information and the man is a serial criminal.

And a ONE DAY MURDER TRIAL?!!

Victor constantly forgetting his actions from 2 years ago is stupid beyond belief and Billy needs to be neutered and Phyllis kicked to the curb.

Why am I liking Hilary? Let’s see more Hilary vs Lily and less of the men in their lives!

No way Paul, Ian has to live! He is a great actor who needs to reappear from time to time. You wanna kill someone? How about Summer, Hilary, Devon or Dylan?

Well, okay, keep Hilary on for now. Hopefully her and Lilly will pull each others hair out and both bleed to death!

OK wait a sec, I’m confused.

Did Victor frame Adam so that he would have the opportunity to blame Ian for the framing and therefore “save” his family yet again? It’s clear Victor had some woman plant the poison in the storage locker…so…? What the hell?

And Meredith “loving” Victor is just too much for me to believe. And that she could get away with having sex with him on multiple occasions is also ridiculous – for many different reasons.

The trial was also ridiculous…I mean, there is a SIGN in the visitor’s room where Victor clearly has no limits on the number of visitors he gets, that reads, “Conversations may be recorded”. Wouldn’t Christine do her due diligence to listen to those conversations? If Kevin can hack into the video why can’t he hear the audio? So many weird loopholes that show the shoddy storytelling …so quick and lacking in thought and depth.

I used to like Billy and Phyllis – just at the beginning, before they acted on their lust. I like the actors and I could understand how the characters ended up together – to a certain extent. 1. Phyllis and Jack are just mismatched – there is no spark between Tognoni and Bergman. 2. Jack seemed wholly unsympathetic to the Phyllis-Marco situation and her need for revenge on Victor; Billy understood. There was a spark between their two wild hearts and I think the story of a brief affair would have worked if it were written differently. But I’m getting sick of their trysts where Phyllis constantly whispers how bad she feels (really?). I’m also sick of Billy’s bozo lines – he talks like a hot and heavy teenager who has read too many romance novels.

And I HATE that this is obviously leading up to Hilary bedding Jack. Another bad match for poor Jack. I knew that Ash’s angry comment to Hilary about how the “abbott name has pull in this town” would come back to bite her in the butt. I’m sorry but I can’t sit through watching this through the summer where Hilary redecorates the Abbott mansion and then hosts a party to tell everyone she is giving him a baby Abbott. SAY THAT WON’T HAPPEN. SOMEBODY. PLEASE.

Finally, I love me some Mariah/Kevin/Sharon time!!!! Though I think it’s foolish of Mariah to keep Sharon’s secret and we know that something bigger and more serious is going to happen. When has lying ever served Sharon well. We have seen her in this position before – on the brink of telling the truth, letting the truth torture her and ultimately ruin her familial happiness. I would love to see Sharon doing something else on the show. Same with Phyllis. I don’t know but the sexiest Phyllis has been in my opinion was when we discovered that she was behind Adam’s kidnapping. I’d love to see her take control in her career…instead of being a Jabot minion.

I am in total agreement with your views here! Having Billy be a bad boy is one thing, but acting like a teen is so unbelievable. And, you are quite correct about all the holes in the writing, particularly the “high security” prison, where inmates roam freely and have an open door policy for visitation. I am a huge Sharon fan, and it’s ridiculous what she’s gone through for 20 years! The new writers need to do their homework and start watching the original episodes of the program (although I understand the first several years of programs were just taped over for convenience. Alas, technology came too late!)

Nancy Lee Grahn’s Star-Studded ALS Fundraiser Reveals “I’ll Be There” Video Featuring Soap Opera Notables

Talk about your impressive line-up! It’s a soap fans dream and for a great cause. General Hospital’s Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis) is prepping her one-night only ALS fundraiser which will feature many of her friends and co-stars.

The benefit is set for May 4th in Glendale, California. Slated to participate are Genie Francis, Jane Elliot, Peter Bergman, Maurice Benard, Eileen Davidson, Thorsten Kaye, Michelle Stafford, Stephen Nichols, Rena Sofer, Jason Thompson, Kelly Monaco, Melissa Claire Egan, Maura West, Kristina Wagner, Gregory Harrison, Trevor St. John, Kate Mansi, Kirsten Storms, Cynthia Watros, and many others.

On Wednesday, Grahn took to her social media and released an “I’ll be there” video shout-out featuring, Monaco, Elliot, Bergman, Bernard, West, Harrison, St. John and more. In a touching and important moment in the new video, Michelle Strogny, who is battling ALS, is featured.

Photo: ABC

Previously, in speaking with Soap Opera Digest on the impetus of the event, Grahn recalled, “I was actually doing Zoom events during Covid and I met this woman that I just fell in love with, Michelle Strojny. At the time, Michelle had been living with ALS for four years. Now, it’s five years. She is a mom of a teenage son, she has the most wonderful husband, and she has been dealing with this [disease] for quite a while. And obviously, there isn’t a cure yet. It’s not survivable yet. But as she says, it’s not incurable. Nothing is; it’s underfunded. But anyway, I just really dug this woman. She is so grounded and filled with grace, and she spends all of her time working to raise money for the cause. We did a fundraiser for her last year and then I thought, ‘You know what? The soaps don’t ever get together to do something for charity.’ Collectively, we have this amazing community and we don’t collectively use it for a good cause, and I think it’s such an easy thing for us to do and we could potentially really make a difference.”

As GH viewers know, Gregory Harrison is playing the character of Gregory Chase, who is also battling ALS in a touching storyline that is currently playing out shedding a light on this disease.

‘General Hospital’ Writer Shannon Peace Let Go, and Shares on Sprina: “One of My Only Regrets is to Not Have the Opportunity to Develop That ‘Ship’ Further”

As General Hospital’s new head writing team of Elizabeth Korte and Patrick Mulcahy gets off the ground and running, there are still changes a foot on the writing team.

Now comes word via breakdown writer Shannon Peace that she is no longer on contract with the long-running ABC soap heading into its 61st season. Peace shared a heartfelt message on her Instagram, thanking the fans, and the show for the opportunity and the importance of diversity in the writers room.

Peace began, “After almost 3 years on staff and 106 episodes penned, I am no longer on contract with General Hospital. Writing for this country’s longest running television serial drama has been an education of epic proportions; I will forever be grateful that I earned my WGA card on a daytime fixture that holds memories for so many.” (Peace pictured below with GH EP Frank Valentini and script writer, Charlotte Gibson from about ten months ago).

Shannon added “Even more importantly, as the sole Black breakdown writer (and only POC in the writers room) during my tenure, I pushed for vital interactions and discussions that prioritized inclusion, visibility, and representation”

The writer pointed to the example of vital interaction when in story, “Stella and Portia’s frank July 2022 conversation about the role race played in Esme’s framing of Trina is just one example of the impact I’m gratified to have had.”

Acknowledging former GH co-head writers was also part of Peace’s farewell expressing, “Appreciation to my former bosses, Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor – not only taking a chance on me, but for valuing my opinion and championing my voice.”

Many GH fans know that Peace was key to the development of the love story between Trina Robinson and Spencer Cassadine as played by Tabyana Ali and Nicholas Chavez. Shannon gave a special shout-out to ‘Sprina’ fans, “I also want to thank fans who were supportive of my work, especially the recognition of my love for ‘Sprina’. One of my only regrets is not having to develop that ‘ship’ further.”

She concludes her statement with,”In the aftermath of a historic writer’s strike that shed new light on the troubling ways writers are regarded in daytime, my sincere hope is that General Hospital recommits to valuing staff writer efforts and input, with a more intentional focus on diverse viewpoints — and thrives for another 60 years.”

Accompanying her post, Shannon added, “Thank you all for the love and support these last few years. I hope GH fans get all they hope for and more!”

So, what do you think about GH not renewing Shannon’s contract? Will there be more continued changes afoot? What do you think is the future of ‘Sprina’ anyway at this point as viewers wait to see if Nicholas Chavez officially returns to the show?  Comment below.
