TODAY: AMC’s Jennifer Bassey Makes Her General Hospital Debut!

Courtesy/ABC

So, just who is Jennifer Bassey playing when she enters the canvas on General Hospital today?

The former All My Children star, where she played Marian Colby Chandler from 1983-85, 1995-2009 and 2011, is seen in a sneak peek clip from Tuesday’s episode of the ABC daytime drama series.

In the clip, Jennifer Bassey’s character wants to meet the man behind “Ask Man Landers”! Enter Nathan West (Ryan Paevey) alongside Amy Driscoll (Risa Dorken).

Now based on this storyline so far, and that of what we know of Marian Colby’s penchant for younger men, remember Tad Martin (Michael E. Knight)? Might this be Marian?

If not, it will be interesting to see just who Bassey is playing in her guest star role.   Watch the clip here.

Then, let us know what you thought of Bassey’s appearance on GH today in the comment section below!

Sounds like another version of Marian from “AMC” hot for hunk Nathan, zzzzzzzz. Was hoping rumor she was Julian and Olivia Jerome’s mother true, then she could have visited her deranged daughter at the loony bin, also getting us another return for Tonja Walker – oh, well…………………..

That still could happen…

Boy, I hope so. After watching it, what a let down. A throw-away character in a silly story, I would have even preferred her as Marian. Then they could have at least also brought Liza (Jamie Luner) to town as well. Marcy Walker (ex-Liza) now DEEPLY into religion and not acting at all, so it’s Luner as a good option.

Heck no to Luner ever playing Liza again.

ya, she should had been Marion…she could still be in this silly plot but have the hots for Nathan

Not a very auspicious beginning; that said, it’s never what it seems, is it? So, is she Helena’s sister or not? 🙂

Love her, and she looks GREAT!
That said, am I the only one who is hearing “Ass Man Landers”?
It make s Nathan sound like a proctologist.
No wonder he looks so uncomfortable.

Harry…hahahhaahaha!!! I guess they could take a photo shoot of his ass…he could keep his identity a secret and voila! Everyone’s happy!

By the way, I’m thinking perhaps the photo shoot goes wrong and his face is plastered everywhere!!!

marian, from all my children is on GH. and i think you’re looking beautiful as ever. god bless you,you have aged-so well,Marion God bless you.
NATE is so cute, a big nudnik with maxie.I hope they stay apart.

Do your thing, Miss Jennifer. You do it best!!!! My arms are wide open, in welcome. ….love you!!
Make a dent, Madame…leave your indelible mark on the shores of PC.

Her appearance, as introduced by Mr. Fairman, makes one wonder if Jennifer’s character is Nathan’s bio mom, as well as Valentin’s?
I was more inclined to believe that Valentin was Nathan’s father, but, they could be brothers, instead. I know, I know…nuts.

Alexis mom who isnt really dead…

Oh come on, jimh….Even the formidable and talented Ms. Bassey couldn’t wax crazy enough for that role…..and besides, who would want to play the woman responsible for bringing Alexis into this world??? (Plus, she has far too much style sense to have spawned that pathetically unfashionable creature with a taste for tartwear…) Then again, if this new character is a sexually voracious one…well, you could be on to something!!!!!! LOL.

UNFORTUNATELY, this clip is not available in CANADA. But I will be thinking of Tad while watching Nathan, Amy and Jennifer’s character.

Marian will become obsessed with Nathan…she will be his stalker!!!

ok, im wrong…lol

there is a few 1970 clips of AMC on youtube…they are kinescopes but one is in color and features Ann Tyler Davis in her dress shop!

Speaking of daggers, Jimmy, Sam is the one obsessed with knives, right now. If she follows Jason, who is on his way to save the day in PR, her mental malady may return.
I guess whatever is wrong with Sam, comes sporadically.
Seriously, I am not trying to be facetious. Obviously, something triggers her behavior.
I get the sense that she is ‘propelled’ in protecting Jason. While under her ‘spell’, she may turn on Sonny and Carly, as she will see them as a threat to Jason for dragging him to the island, especially if that other mobster is there, as well.
I wonder if she will pack that butcher knife.

I was, actually, surprised today, when Sam balked at the fact that Jason is always ‘there’ for Sonny. She, at least, had the presence of mind to make her feelings known.

I was a long, long time fan of All My Children and it was the only I watched and I was so very disappointed and I still miss it and I’m still mad that they took it off the air! I loved all the characters, some more than others though, and I really liked Jennifer as Marion. I was so surprised and so pleased when I saw her on GH today! I started watching GH about a year later and it is still the only soap I watch. I sure hope that Jennifer will be a regular member of the cast, it makes it a lot more enjoyable to see any of AMC’s cast on TV, but I hate that so many of them aren’t on TV anymore. Especially Erica, and don’t get me started on that cause I am still mad that I don’t get to see her anymore! I am very pleased to see Rebecca (Greenlee) on GH now but I just wish there were more of AMC’s cast brought onto GH. I have come to enjoy GH very much and I am glad it is still on the air, thank you for that and for all the years that AMC was brought into my home! If y’all ever decided to bring it back I would be delighted!

You can watch Susan Lucci (Erica) on the Progressive Insurance Commercials.

I love that commercial. “Who was there for you when you had am-ne-si-a?” “You know I can’t remember that!” LOL…

I know some of the actors want to play different characters but I would love it if Jennifer turned out to be Marian. We need a sense that Pine Valley and Llanview are still around especially since that mess with ABC and Prospect Park is over.

Yes, and while ABC-TV has regained the rights to the characters from ALL MY CHILDREN and OLTL I just don’t feel that they have that much interest in a re-launch or even character crossovers right now – but I certainly could be wrong. I would LOVE to see the characters return in some form or another –

She has guest star role.. a short stay.
Anyways, I never heard of her her so ehhh ..

And– the Man Landers thing is more than lame, I mean really lame.
It is even embarrassing for GH to have that much stupid lame .

The GH bunch seems to have outdone themselves in terms of lame and embarrassing storylines this time around, su0000….and that is saying SO much given their stellar previous attempts!

Reply here,,,i wanted her to be Alexis mom who kills Alexis with that same dagger but before that she has an affair with Julian who causes him to have a fatal heart attack while they are in bed together…she could be the soaps most infamous (and my favorite)serial killer by knocking off most of the cast…hey, if Ava can get away with murder she could to!!!-lol

Do I detect a hint of sarcasm, my Shay?….”….stellar previous attempts?”……love it.
I think, you and I, can pretty much finish each other’s sentences or thought….never mind my twin. LOL.
But, to be fair; I do enjoy most of the storylines on GH. I wait with expectation Valentin’s arrival. We all know it’s inevitable. He and Nina will get back together.
I, also, anticipate how the writers will ‘handle’ Lulu’s absence. She is so big, she may give birth in the studio parking lot.
What is in store for Julian? I like him a lot more than Sonny, albeit if there’s a choice, TPTB will redeem Sonny…they have been trying, but failing miserably.
Alexis does better without Julian. But, we both know she and Julian will end up together….the same as Sonny and Carly. They will kiss and make up while Sonny fights for his life, AGAIN!!
I like Nelle, now, but Michael needs to man-up. At least, he told Bobbie step back from his private life. I only wish for Nelle to expand her choices—and for her and Kiki to be twins and Nina’s daughters. No joke, I’m serious. LOL.
I would be forever grateful, if he would stand up to Sonny…completely truncating their relationship.
Spencer is a breath of fresh air….so like my Nico. And, I love the way Laura deals with him. She just takes his precociousness with a grain of salt. The serene look on her face shows how much she loves him, albeit his behavior makes her scratch her head in resignation. Spencer is a ” workout”…..trying to reason with an astute, extra-intuitive and intelligent child is an attempt in futility. LOL. I think Genie is perfect in the role of doting ” Grand-maman”.
I truly love Laura and Kevin—the writers cannot mess with this relationship. This couple is heartwarming.

I think everyone will agree that the Nathan/Amy “fantasy” is a bust….and, the introduction of Ms Bassey better have some TEETH !!!! Or else!!!! LOL.

Yes, lame! Maybe you could give GH some advice? LOL!

….Never know, su. Many actors are cast in short stints and stay for years. Best example, Greg Rikaart (Y&R).
I suppose GH has a full house, and then some….yet;… maybe ” diluvial Cindy” will take care of a few on the island of PR—reducing some of the cast, in one fell swoop.

Jennifer Bassey’s introduction to GH might be the only good thing to come out of this barely watchable “Ask Man Landers” nonsense. I hope this story with Amy is temporary and will end once Kirsten Storms returns, I can’t stand her character and I don’t understand why the writers are building a story around her. Utilize the vets and the characters we care about, not the peripheral characters with no ties to the canvas, especially one as intolerable as Amy.

I understand, Jimmy. If it weren’t for Ryan and Jennifer, I’d FF every Amy scene. I just do not trust that bubbly-thing going on. As I said previously, she will get Nathan in some trouble. I don’t know what; but, Amy has “no good” on her mind.
I cannot wrap my head around this storyline. What is the point? Absolute nonsense.

Utter complete tosh, CeeCeeGirl! Makes one wonder if this storyline is intended as camp, comic relief because it sure is playing out that way…except it isn’t one bit funny!

AGREED! Yet, TPTB named the character Amy (as a way to what, endear her to longtime viewers?), have her living with Kristina (another annoying character, IMO), have her working at the hospital, and have given her a backstory with Dillon and Maxie (which is really annoying, what do I care if the girl made the cheerleading squad?). Also, now it appears as though she will be getting a family. STOP THE INSANITY! Focus on the veteran characters. Clean house of the bloated cast!

Celia, doesn’t it make you visualize the story meeting about this asinine tale? Someone positing a story where an annoying sub character gets to hang with the town dreamboat to push a 1950-ish advice column? If they greenlight this one, makes you wonder what they’re turning down.

Celia and Rebecca…Precocious probably wasn’t the word I should have used for Spencer, even though he does have inspired moments. As do many kids. Its just that, for me, he has always been written as the spoiled, entitled, “Prince,” who is sometimes a little over the top. Like his “acting out” since he landed in Port Charles. Many fans don’t mind, but it’s just something that has always bothered me. Also want to add Nicolas/Spencer has done a great job playing the role.

I think Laura and Kevin can really help him adjust, but in retrospect maybe not such a good idea for Laura to have separated Spencer from Port Charles and those who love him by sending him to the private school for security purposes. Seemed like the thing to do at the time, but I’m sure this just made him feel more insecure. Again just my opinion. And “yes” life has not been easy for him…remember when he was caught in the fire at Wyndemere a couple of seasons ago?

I am liking the Amy/Nathan story as a bit of departure from everything else that’s going on at GH. Like more Sonny/Carly, and now Sam’s dillusions. Maybe Ask Man Landers is just a summer bridge story until Maxie comes back and they get a new writer?

If anything I find precocious Spencer just way too over the top. Can you imagine what he could be like as an adult! Go Laura and Kevin in straightening out this entitled kid.

Well, you know I like Amy…and I think her story with Nathan is cute and refreshing. If they don’t have the budget to bring back the vets…and there are times because of said budget they have to rotate the regular players to give them ample time, or maybe the actors who play Molly, TJ, Kristina are busy doing other projects, then I think this is the perfect light summer fare. Whether it turns into a more serious story or peters out remains to be seen. Perhaps Nathan’s photo shoot doesn’t go as planned and his face winds up all over the place. Perhaps Maxi doesn’t want him to continue but Nathan feels bad ditching the project and leaving Amy in the lurch. Perhaps that causes problems for the two…Maybe Amy should be an advice columnist at Crimson! This way she gets paid a great supplemental income (if she continues nursing), Nathan helps her out by landing her the job and the Crimson orbit becomes more central to the canvas with Nina, Maxi, Nell and Amy working from there.

Either way, Amy lights up the screen with her sweet, fun presence and she and Nathan are an unlikely duo that are sweet to watch. Why would Nathan get involved some want to know….maybe he’s a great guy with heart? Maybe he’s developed a friendship with someone he has empathy for? Maybe he genuinely likes this person and, considering both his wife and his sister are similarly “out there” at times…Mr. Man Landers doesn’t find Amy so outlandlers! (ish!)

Oh…and Rose…Spencer has always been over the top but that’s his M.O. But he’s always been spoiled on the surface, vulnerable and insecure on the inside. He’s always missed his mom and now, if we believe that Nicolas is truly dead, or at least if he isn’t but Spencer thinks he is…he’s a kid acting out. He’s got “personality” albeit a tad dramatic. He’s a great little actor. Broke my heart when he confessed to Nina he misses his dad every day. When Laura reigns him in, which is what he needs, he’s quite sweet. But, I like the precocious little guy! LOL. I hope he’s here to stay for a while. It’s a nice little family they’ve developed with Kevin and Laura…

Have you seen the Geico commercial with the little girl and her lemonade stand…who wants to charge the customer more than $2.00 though her sign says $1.00. I think that little actress is fantastic and can see her on GH should they need another little girl. Her “tude” reminds me of Charlotte’s a bit. Too cute!

Rebecca…I really like your idea of Amy having her column in the Crimson magazine. For a soap that seems to have had a lot of downer moments recently, this is just a nice, light , probably short-arc story where the characters are acting decent for a change…at least so far.

There is a part of me that deep down likes Spencer, but sometimes he can be like chalk on a blackboard for me. And I do like him with Emma. Even Nina used to to do that for me sometimes, but since she took over Crimson I’ve seen flashes that I like of another Nina as she is evolves.

And there is a connection between her and Valantin. But I don’t want them to sweep his behavior at Cassidine Island when he held everyone hostage, shot Kevin and maybe killed Nik (still not sold on the fact he is dead) as if it never happened…similar to what they did with Michael , AJ, Connie and Ava. And then there is his relationship with Anna which we will have to see play out.

Saw the Geico lemonade ad. About the ad itself, “selling” things with a catch or worse seems to be in the air for the last little while, and not just for lemonade. Shame!

Ad “Twin Peaks” and “Suits” to our show list.

Haven’t watched “Suits” yet; tried “Twin Peaks” and couldn’t get through the first episode. Maybe I’ll try again…Oh! Another good show to “add to our list?” The Oprah Channel…”Queen Sugar” (Greg Vaughn is in it; not sure if he’s returning.) And…Hallmark Channel…another show I really liked is returning with Treat Williams, Diane Ladd, Jesse Metcalfe, Meghan Ory…really heartwarming show…stumbled upon it by accident when it premiered and I loved it. Quaint, picturesque town, family-oriented vibe. I think you’d like it.

Not sure what you mean about the ads “selling” things with a catch. All advertising is the “hook”…I love that ad because you dont know where it’s going or the message it’s sending and then bam! out of the blue…Geico saving you money with no “hidden” taxes, fees, etc. like the little girl is trying to do when she adds up the extra fees on her lemonade.I think it’s exceptionally cute and “drives” the message across quite well! And I love the little girl! After writing you I thought about it…she reminds me of Charlotte looks-wise (don’t know why) but her attitude is Spencer. She’d be great with him if they cast her.

“Precocious Spencer” is acting out his pain, Rose. So….hopefully it’s not a dig?
I am not really a fan of spite. LOL.
We could look at Spncer’s behavior as a rebellion against the world; specifically, Valentin for killing his father, albeit, I think that entire episode on the Cassadine island will be explained away, somehow.
You know what I mean, Rose; the typical soapy stuff…it wasn’t really Valentin; he was hypnotized; it was someone else wearing a Valentin mask…..whatever TPTB say, we will accept—soap norm.
Spencer should not have free rein. But, he is not your typically average kid. My son will be eight in August—he wants to design and build jet planes, cars, space ships etc. it does not make him spoiled—just precocious.
Any child psychologist will tell us to never impede a child’s natural expression in all things….within the parameters of normalcy. It does not mean Spencer is spoiled. And, no one should interfere with someone else’s parenting.
I think Laura’s “punishment” was appropriate. She did not flip out. She proceeded with caution. But, it would be cynical to assume Spencer will grow up feeling entitled . He’s a good kid with issues.
Kevin will be a good influence, I’m sure.
Spencer, should not leave on a jet plane, without permission, LOL.
I accept this is a soap and what we have been fed only happens on Mars.

If I may interject, rebecca has ‘explained’ this ‘sad’ little boy better than I could have. He was an open-book as he threw his feelings at Nina’s feet, whose natural, maternal instincts came to the fore. That hug spoke volumes for both of them.

correction! t-mobile ad…not geico! lol…(I may love the commercial but apparently paid no attention to what it was advertising!)

What a waste of a fine actress! Unless they are going to connect her to the canvas in another way, the role could have been filled by any day player.

Bassey’s resemblance to Constance Towers should be embraced. If not, they could have easily have her portray a widowed Marian, who took over the publishing arm of Chandler Enterprises.

Worse, I don’t think she said “dah-ling” once in the entire episode!

Exactly, Steve. This go-between-rep job is too plebeian for an actress of Ms Bassey’s caliber.
As I mentioned, I hope TPTB do tie her into a compelling storyline. They must…..a futile venture if they won’t.
As you said, we haven’t even heard her say, “Dah-ling”, yet.

Just the show’s latest (failed?) attempt at “stunt-casting,” Steve! Been there, done that too many times before…such a shame for this talented actress whose trademark sassy pizzazz could have provided such a marked contrast in character to the coolly-elegant evillainess that is our beloved Helena.

Elegan; Exqisite. Absolutely, Shay. I liken Miss Constance to Miss Jennifer—-especially when making a fashion statement; which is so very lacking in Port Charles….
….though, I must commend on Vinessa’s (Jordan, albeit not a one of my favorites) tailleur—gorgeous in its simplicity.

Shay:Oh, my!!! Elegant, exquisite, comment ( albeit, I commend that look, as well)…oopsies.
I really wish I could like Amy. She’s too spastic and annoying….like a mosquito.
Maybe, she is a good friend to both Nathan and Maxie? Should we give her the benefit of the doubt?

dmr and Soaphound,
I cannot think of a single, reasonable thing compelling this writing team to pen such a nonsensical story….no beginning and no end. It just sprouted like a weed. WHY?
As I had said to Shay; will Nathan fall prey? I doubt it. ….unless she drugs him and he hallucinates ; much like Sam. In that state, Nathan may see Maxie instead of Amy. LOL.
Is it my imagination? Is Amy legit?
TPTB could have brought JBassey on board without this uninspiring story. She could have walked on stage, as someone suggested, as a publisher from the city.
I will embellish the idea by having her meet with Nina to discuss “business”.
What a great way/pretense to meet her “daughter-in-law”!!
Dmr—you made such a good point. I did not think of this….Amy is getting a family. So, now, she belongs. Hmmmm. Me no like.
And, Soaphound, you are so right. How and why would an Adonis, such as Nathan, and a cop to boot, be involved in this senseless hoopla? He’s a cop…doesn’t he question it? How dumb?
I still think there’s a plot brewing, involving Maxie. Why else would her imminent arrival and Amy’s book-fever-deal happen simultaneously?

Couldn’t agree more! My first choice for her was as Julian and Olivia Jerome’s Mom, so we could get some good Jerome history of why she ran away from Victor and her children and maybe pay a visit to her deranged daughter (please give us more Tonja Walker) in the loony bin. Even the 2nd rumor as Valentin’s Mom better then this silly throw-away character, as would the return of Marian even be………………….

THIS STORY IS A WASTE OF EVERYONES TIME…END IT SOON…PLEASE.

WHAT? You’re not enjoying the idea of Nathan being an Ass Man? Hey everybody, look, it’s a bird, it’s a plane, no, it’s Ass Man Landers!!!
Sounds like the name of a gay porno super hero.
Can the writers and director not hear this?

Oh, Harry!…Nobody could slam this latest GH absurdity in a better fashion than you just have! Kudos!

(Laughing and applause!)

I’d rather watch Mac & Felicia do the books or put away supplies at The Floating Rib than this lackluster storyline.

I amost choked when i saw her. this show is in bad shape. my husband was with me and i just stopped what i was doing and he said what happened. i don’t want to hear anything but her right now. bravo you are on the right track if you do her justice.

So much hype over so little. To put a gifted actress into a DEVIL WEARS PRADA knockoff character is just another example of lousy storytelling. Does ANYONE care about this ludicrous Amy/Nathan story? An advice column? Is this 1960?

And does anyone under 40 even know who Ann Landers was?

I do now, Steve. LOL.

No, I don’t care about Amy when we don’t even see Molly, TJ or Krissy who are at least characters that have been around for several years.

I love the actress, but GH cast is so bloated that we don’t even see Molly, Kristina, Felix, Piph, Mac, Felicia, Monica, Lucy, TJ and a host of other characters that have been around for years.

Soap royalty! What a treat to AMC fans!

Carol Burnett Talks About Being a Superfan of ‘All My Children’ on ‘Live with Kelly and Mark’

In a heartfelt reunion, of sorts, the one and only Carol Burnett appeared on Monday March 25th episode of Live with Kelly and Mark.

Burnett had first met Kelly Ripa (Hayley) and Mark Consuelos (ex-Mateo) back when they all appeared on All My Children together. Carol played Verla Grubbs first in 1983 and then again in the 90’s.

Host Kelly Ripa (ex-Hayley, AMC) noted to Burnett that “we go back a long time”. She also described Burnett’s character of Verla Grubbs, “extraordinary in every way.”

Carol’s love for All My Children is well-documented, hence legendary soap creator, Agnes Nixon, created the role of Verla for Burnett.

Photo: ABC

Speaking on how her passion for All My Children began, Carol told Kelly and Mark, “It started with my kids. They would watch at noon. I said, ‘What are you guys doing?’ I sat down and I started to watch and I got hooked!”

When Carol’s family decided to travel through Europe during one summer, the comedic legend recalled thinking, “How am I going to last if I don’t know what’s going on in Pine Valley?” She revealed she had a friend, “who sent me a telegram to the (different hotels) on Fridays to bring me up to date.”

In a hilarious moment from the segment, Carol recalled receiving a late night telegram while in Lake Cuomo when there was a knock at her hotel room door from the hotel manager who was shaking.

Carol related what it said, “Erica is still in a coma. Mark slipped again and ran away from rehab.” As Kelly and Mark broke into laughter, Burnett continued, “Chuck has learned that Donna is carrying his baby, who was once a hooker.”

Check out Carol explaining how she became an AMC Superfan below.

Now, let us know, did you enjoy Carol as Verla Grubbs? What show do you consider yourself a Superfan of? Tell us in the comment section.

Malachy McCourt, ‘Ryan’s Hope’ and ‘All My Children’ Actor, Dead at 92

If you watched Ryan’s Hope through its 14-year-run, you know that Kevin the bartender became a beloved “member’ of the Ryan clan on the defunct ABC daytime drama series. The character of Kevin MacGuiness became so loved by the fans because of the actor who portrayed him, Malachy McCourt.

Sadly, according to his wife Diana McCourt to The New York Times, Malachy passed away on Monday from a heart condition and battling cancer. The actor was 92-years-old.

Playing Kevin on Ryan’s Hope was not much of a stretch for McCourt, because in his lifetime, he was the owner of 1950s Irish pub Malachy’s on Third Avenue in Manhattan. Known as one of the city’s great story-tellers, patrons from longshoremen to the actor Richard Harris would stop in and talk all things Irish with . On Ryan’s Hope, Kevin was best friends to “Ryan’s Bar” owner, Johnny Ryan (Bernie Barrow) and he tried to keep Delia (Ilene Kristen) on the straight and narrow.

In his soap opera career, McCourt also was widely-known for his role of Father Clarence McCourt on All My Children especially come Christmastime. Was Clarence, actually St. Nick? That was always the proverbial question. McCourt also appeared on the New York soaps: One Life To Live, Search For Tomorrow and Another World. Other roles included: Devil’s Own, Brewster’s Millions, The Molly Maguires, and Starman, to name

Later in 2006, Malachy ran for governor of the state of New York as a Green Party candidate. He tackled social issues of the time including being an advocate for gay and lesbian groups to march in the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

McCourt’s childhood was recounted within his brother Frank McCourt’s Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir Angela’s Ashes, which detailed their mother’s attempt to raise the four of their surviving seven children in poverty in Limerick, Ireland. Later, Malachy wrote his own memoirs: 1998’s Monk Swimming, and 2000’s Singing My Him Song.

Malachy is survived by his aforementioned wife, Diana, daughter Siobhan McCourt; sons Malachy Jr., Conor and Cormac; stepdaughter Nina Galin; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
