TODAY: Finola Hughes Returns To General Hospital! What Do You Hope Is In Store For Anna Devane?

General Hospital has been missing one of its most beloved characters of late, ever since Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) left Port Charles a few months ago to grieve the loss of the love of her life Duke Lavery (Ian Buchanan).
When Anna left the canvas with Duke’s ashes in tow, it helped facilitate the exit of Daytime Emmy winner Finola Hughes, who took some time off to direct a new film. Ultimately, the film project was put on hold, which enabled Hughes to jump back into action sooner than expected and tape new episodes of the ABC daytime drama series the first of which airs Wednesday.
But what will become of Anna? Will she find love again? What will happen with her relationship with Agent Sloane now played again by Robb Derringer? Will Anna be busy putting the bad guys away? Where will she live? Will she get the opportunity to spend more time with her granddaughter Emma (Brooklyn Rae Silzer)? Will she finally get a clue and help figure out where on earth her daughter Robin Scorpio Drake (Kimberly McCullough) has truly gone?
These are just some of the questions awaiting the audience, and how ever the new writing regime of Shelly Altman and Jean Passananante, decide to craft the daytime treasure that is the work of Finola Hughes.

51st Daytime Emmys: Outstanding Daytime Drama Series Nominations
On Thursday, the 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards revealed nominations in several key categories via four entertainment news programs: Access Hollywood, E! News, Extra and Access Hollywood.
Three of the four announcements were major categories in the field of Daytime Dramas.
The nominees in the Outstanding Daytime Drama Series category are: The Bay, The Bold and the Beautiful, Days of our Lives, General Hospital, Neighbours and The Young and the Restless.

General Hospital won this category last year, and has the most all-time wins for a series in this category. For the first time, the beloved Australian-based soap opera, Neighbours is now eligible for competition due to its reboot which streams on Amazon Freevee.

The 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards will be handed out in ceremonies in Los Angeles and broadcast live on CBS and streaming on Paramount+ on Friday night, June 7th.
Previous categories announced tonight via the entertainment news outlet included: Lead Actor and Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

More of the Story on ‘General Hospital’ Star Josh Kelly’s Latest Film Role in ‘The Workout’
We had previously shared that General Hospital’s Josh Kelly was taking three weeks away from his role of Cody Bell to a shoot a role in an upcoming movie entitled The Workout.
Josh originally revealed his role in the film during an episode of GH castmates, Steve Burton (Jason) and Bradford Anderson’s (Spinelli) podcast.
Now Deadline has filled in some of the blanks, and shared some intriguing intel on the premise of the film and its back-story. The film stars Kelly along with Peter Jae, and UFC Fighter, Ashlee Evans-Smith. Other cast members include The Bay’s Kristos Andrews.

In The Workout, two army rangers set out to create a workout video, but their plans are abruptly halted when a mob hit interrupts their filming. Tragically, one of the rangers loses his wife in the attack, sending him on a relentless mission to take down the mob and anyone who stands in his way.
The film from James Cullen Bressack, almost did not get financed. Apparently, ten days before his birthday, Bressack made a post on Instagram about the feature and production, casting, and financing came from the post … illustrating the power of social media. After the post gained traction, a producer provided financing and actors expressed interest in joining the project, leading to a quick production.

In a statement, Bressack shared, “As artists a painter paints, a musician makes music, a writer writes, but as filmmakers we have to ask permission to create. It’s time to change that narrative. This film spawned from a necessity to create. We create. We tell stories. We play pretend. I’m excited to take this journey. This is the truest form of collaboration and a community of friends coming together to make something fun. While our industry has had a rough time recently with strikes and a possible strike looming in the future, it’s nice to remind ourselves why we got into film to begin with. To have fun telling stories.”
No word yet on when The Workout will be released.

51st Annual Daytime Emmy Nominations Set to Be Announced
The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences revealed on Wednesday via X, that this year’s 51st annual Daytime Emmy Nominations are set to be announced in full on Friday, April 19th at 12 pm ET/9 am PT.
However, four of the top award category nominations will be revealed on Thursday, April 18th across four entertainment news programs to kick things off.
Those include this Thursday episodes of Access Hollywood, E! News, Entertainment Tonight and Extra. Over the past few years, NATAS has often let the syndicated entertainment news program handle the duties of revealing the top actor and actress in a daytime drama series, but we shall see which categories the shows unveil this year.

As previously announced, the 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards will be presented in ceremonies on Friday night, June 7th on CBS (8 – 10 PM, ET/delayed PT) on the CBS Television Network, and available to stream live and on-demand on Paramount+*.
The awards will be back at The Bonaventure hotel in downtown Los Angeles, where (the delayed due to the actors and writers strike) 50th annual Daytime Emmy Awards were held back in December of 2023.

The Daytime Emmy Awards have recognized outstanding achievement in television programming and crafts since 1974, honoring work in a variety of categories, including daytime dramas, talk shows, instructional programming, hosting, culinary, and legal/courtroom programs. In 2021, NATAS and the Television Academy jointly announced plans to realign the Daytime and Primetime Emmy Awards to be organized by content genre, as opposed to program airtime.
The 51st Daytime Emmy Nominations will honor the work and achievement from the calendar year of 2023.

Yes, please bring back Robin ASAP, we don’t the pairing of Patrick and Sam she belong with her husband Jason.
I would write anna to be the center of the show..her and sloane should’ve been giving the reset button once she returned. She didn’t have to come back from her hiatus wanting to right away jump into a relationship with him …but building a relationship up slowly should’ve been the idea instead of killing sloane off. Definitely more time with Emma since Patrick is too busy with Sam.
Anna didnt leave with Dukes ashes—its RonC’s script FH burned when she read Duke was being killed off…lol…(maybe he isnt dead and is in hiding for now and Anna went to see him???)
I’m going to forget what TPTB did to the integrity of Anna Devane’s character before Finola Hughes left to direct a movie. I hope she will be restored to police commissioner, that the rumor that Carlos is still alive is true; Anna Devane would not kill anyone in cold blood.
I hope Tristan Rogers will return; Anna would not have slept with Sloane.
In other words, I hope the character of Anna as we’ve known her will return!
I’m very excited to see her familiar face again–and here’s hoping Genie Francis will not be far behind!
Cleaning house of all the characters who do not belong in GH would be a boon to the show and to the viewers. I have my fingers crossed. Maybe GH will take a page from DOOL (‘m back to watching Patch and Kayla again! “Seems like old times . . . .”
That Carlos would still be alive is about the only way Anna can be redeemed in my mind. The way it was portrayed, she murdered Carlos—so she’s not much better than Sonny (who should be in prison for life and off the show).
@nancy dillingham…..Killing Carlos was akin to putting down a rabid hound…a public service to the community! Hence, I cannot fault Anna for that lapse in her usual impeccable record of law enforcement…..not to mention that I would truly abhor the return of Carrrrrrr-LOS! It took far too long to rid Port Charles of that mangy madman as it was….please no encore appearances! Let’s just give Anna a pass on this one and hope for brighter days for this once irreproachable heroine. I have a feeling that she will redeem herself many times over under this new writing regime, and I share your desire to see her reunited with both Robert and Robin….and maybe Frisco, too! Along with the lovely Laura, they are the legacy characters I’d most love to see resurface in Port Charles, even if only possible for a brief moment. As you so succinctly put it, the time to “clean house” of all those who don’t belong on the GH canvas has indeed arrived and would be a huge boon for the show. From your lips to the “Soap God’s” ear, Ms. Dillingham!

ITA with every word, Anna killing Carlos, Anna has never killed anybody before! Sleeping with Sloane, unbelievable! Anna never used to be so loose, sleeping with everything in sight .. Eli Love, Luke, Sloane .. she used to fall in LOVE first, remember Robert? He was her first, and she was so in love with him she was never with another man until she met Duke, 7 years later, and fell in love with him. And so it went, she was loyal to Duke until he died and remained so until she fell back in love with Robert, years later. That is the Anna I loved. I don’t really recognize this Anna. The Anna I remember would move heaven and earth to get her daughter back. Robin was always her FIRST priority. Robert needs to return and snap Anna back to her old self. Until then, I’ve pretty much lost interest in GH. DAYS is my soap now, loving all the returns, especially Patch & Kayla!
And I want to post again how I admire Stephen Nichols (Patch) for his sentiments in a interview recently where he talked about his return. He said, “Of course, Kayla and Patch will reunite; that’s the law of soap opera.” He “gets it,” and he gets the fans’ loyalty to a supercouple they care about and have watched faithfully over the years. And he didn’t pull any punches when asked about GH’s 52nd anniversary show either. He said he did not want to return, that he thought the regulars who were asked to return were not treated well.
Tony Geary could take a page out of Stephen’s book re loyalty and humility and plain straight talking and truth telling. Bravo to Stephen!

ICAM, that’s exactly what I was thinking when I saw that interview with Mary Beth & Stephen, this is what a Supercouple looks like. This is what the fans want to see. A love for the ages. Not – oh, they’ve moved on with other people, their love was over a LONG time ago, it was never meant to last, blah blah blah. Who wants to see that?
i’m so happy Fin is back, love anna and i’ve missed her, but the first thing the show needs to do is give some explanation about Robin. This is like one of the hundreds of things that frustrated fans about RC. I know theres open /end stories, cliffhanger, but not hearing anything about Robin or the characters not even saying they have comminicated with Robin falls under any category except bad follow up. so thats what i think the show needs to do asap its address that. as for her love live, it was so disappointing when they killed off duke, and now sloane has been recast with the original only to have the character killed off too? this show needs to stop killing off characters. I actually started liking the second sloan more then the first one, the actor was so sexy and had great chemistry with finola so at this point i’ll be glad if she’s just front and center because for now no matter what i like the show seems to go in the oppisite direction..
I didnt like neither Sloan but I could see Anna with #2 before #1. Kill him off and lets get Robert back and him and Anna can go and bring Robin home. Kim or no Kim!
I hope to see the super spy killer instinct back with her first priority finding out what is going on with her daughter. Anna and Robin have one of most endearing mother/daughter relationship in soaps. It has been beyond frustrating not to see Anna question Robin’s whereabouts or her state of mind given what Robin went through for 2 years. Secondly, I want her to go after Julian, who is the person responsible for Duke’s death. For once, I want to see Anna “win” and the bad guy pay. In this case the bad guy being an non entity to GH. Julian adds NOTHING to the canvas.
Overall, I would love for Anna to lead/solve a serial murder mystery where at least 5-10 newbies die, starting with Julian, Nina, Franco, Ava & Sabrina. There are too many unnecessary doozy characters running amok in Port Charles and sinking GH into the ground. The show has become unrecognizable. If TPTB doesn’t cut any of these characters by the end of the year, its a message to the fans that GH is on its last leg.
I hope the new writers give Anna her mojo back! I dont care if she is the commissioner. Maybe WSB or PI work? Her and Spinelli would be interesting? Anna needs a new love. What about Frisco? Rescue Tristan from Y&R and go after their daughter for god sakes!

One of the key elements to soaps is romance. Anna can be a strong woman and have a relationship at the same time. Though it was implied she and Duke were a couple, they really shortchanged them. There was absolutely nothing romantically portrayed for this one time great pairing. Now, I’d love to see Anna in a relationship…it’s been far too long since she’s been portrayed as the beautiful, alluring woman she is…with an equally alluring, dynamic man.

Wow! You’re one equating love, romance, couples with “days of old?” Romance, love…is part of the human condition. Romance doesn’t equal sappy. I don’t mean this in an offensive way but am I remembering correctly…is English not your first language? Perhaps that accounts for your answer. Which shows, films do you watch that don’t include love, sex, passion, couples… Why do you equate relationships with the 80s and 90s????
I think you should just cut and paste from now on because you keep feeling the need to remind everyone…no matter what their comment is…that we’ve got to move into the future. Huh. I didn’t know that was a loveless, sexless, passionless place….
Su…romance doesn’t die out. It’s a staple of soap and even some of the nighttime shows. It’s how some shows handle it…in the case of GH, it’s just lust, not romance, foreplay or conversation. Or awkward and silly on some nighttime shows I would never watch anyway.
I sometimes wonder if maybe writers have forgotten how to write romance and talking to each other, if they ever knew. Look at all of the online dating services promising romance, and the bachelor/ette shows (UGH) for people who need help “hooking up.” And neither the old ways or new ways hold any guarantees of success.
And even you like Franco and Nina. They are growing on me because of the genuine affection and loyalty. But this relationship took a long time to play out with no instant stripping and tongues.

In su’s defense ( and I know you admire her stoicism and ‘armor’), I don’ think she means that romance is dead. I think she means that all we see on TV today are reality shows, which are not even real…..all staged. I would hope that su means romance is not given its due with today’s youth. Celebrity antics such as Miley Cyrus ( whom I love) and looking at the Kardashians’ fake butts and breasts…..or their one-hour-long- duration of their marriages makes one think twice about what true romance is.
I know you would never attack su, Rose. You have a heart of gold, I can tell…..just like Fanny.
Furthermore, by modernizing, su means …’ Get with the program’. It seems that romance, as we know it, is going down the tubes. And, it shows.

One must read between the lines when it comes to su…..I think she has feelings and thoughts just like the rest of us….I do agree to a certain extent what she is trying to impart. Romance is not portrayed on American TV as a living, pulsating phenomenum.

Love Finola. Very disappointed that Grayson McCouch wasn’t kept on since they had tons of chemistry. The other Sloan has none with her so I hope he’s just on short-term. Would like to see her get a front burner s/l along with Jane Elliot.
Rumor has it Grayson decided not to come back when he learned they were killing off Sloane. I agree with another poster…there was something very sexy about him…and with you. They had great chemistry.

Completely agree…McCouch was Hot!! While his elongated Rivera pronunciation was cheesy, he stopped exaggerating it eventually & he was so sexy. Totally looked forward to their chemistry in their scenes together. Not every pairing works where there’s that electricity & you can feel it. It was certainly there with Duke back in the day and although you could always feel the deep love & connection between them, the writers didn’t allow for that passion this time until their last scenes!! The electricity was also there with David on AMC & then finally again with Grayson! Listen, Anna doesn’t need a man in her life, but if there’s going to be one, she’s so gorgeous & badass herself, it needs to be with someone who can bring the spark! I’m obviously a huge Finola/Anna fan & ultimately what I feel most strongly about is that she’s once again made to be a Leading character, but I’d rather not see her with anyone at all than be with some ordinary run of the mill. She’s best with someone a little dangerous. Always thought Roger Howarth’s intensity would be hot with her, until they made Franco a little too out there…
I will always love Anna & Robin’s relationship; Anna & Robert’s history & deep friendship; Anna & Duke as a couple, but back in the day (that was he best!).
Ultimately, as long as Anna is on, I’m happy.

However, for all else, I’m much more into the “original recipe” Sloane, Robb Derringer! But I hear you about Robert and Anna…she’s at her absolute best when she’s mixing with her WSB cohorts, meaning either her ex-hubby or Frisco Jones! That whole “Charlie’s Angels” fluff with Jordan was simply silly and beyond demeaning for the “Divine Devane!”
Not interested in Anna anymore. Her character is not the anna I know. Anna would never give up on Robin and accept what Robin said in her last phone call. Anna would not accept another loser woman living in Robins house with Emma. Let me know when the real Anna returns.
Anna has always been gracious. She realizes Patrick and Emma have been without Robin for a very long time. She loves them and sees that they’re happy with Sam, so I think it’s realistic and reasonable that she’d approve of Sam. I do agree though that the old Anna wouldn’t have stopped looking for her daughter…or tried harder to see if she was in trouble or truly gone of her own accord.
Anna should become a lesbian Lol. The poor woman, has bad luck with men. Please Anna and Nina become lovers. That would be hot to watch.

I’m very glad that Finola Hughes is back. I’ve stopped watching GH – it’s too depressing to watch how bad it’s gotten. I thought it was bad enough during the Geary farewell tour. It’s been completely unwatchable for me since that wrapped up.
But I’m recording it today, solely to see Anna. I’ll be very surprised if having her back gets me to tune back in until many things change and some characters dissapear. (yeah, that means YOU, Howarth and Stafford and whoever the hell it is that plays Dr. O.)

What I want most for Anna is for Duke to not really be dead… I hope the new writers bring him back and this time with a storyline for Duke and Anna together, worthy and respectful of the history of Duke and Ana and the talents of Ian Buchanan and Finola Hughes. Take a note from what DOOL is doing with bringing back the staple of Daytime soap, couples with rich history that viewers love and want to see.

It has to be Robert or Duke for Anna. Grayson Mccouch couldn’t act and their whole storyline made absolutely no sense. Give Anna a house, a career and a social life. The Anna we knew years ago would never be ok with Robin disappearing without a decent explanation, she would not let Duke’s murderer get away and then crawl in bed with someone else right after Dukes funeral. Such a crappy way to destroy our vets and lose viewers.

We must not forget, though, that Anna and Duke had not been together for a very long time. That last minute patch-up-making-up-leaving -for- Scotland fiasco was ridiculous. I am aware the couple had the greatest of romances…but, what I witnessed was a lot of resentment and anger between them since I joined this ‘fan club’…LOL. So, from my vantage point, well, I guess from where I stand, the last couple of scenes between Duke and Anna were an after-thought…out of place, out of sync.
They did not hurt anyone…..I thought it was sweet, yet tumultuous…..passionate, yet precious.
What you are saying can actually be applied to the crypt sex between Ava and Sonny. As a Roman Catholic, that is sacred ground….. that was the most offensive scene ever on a soap for me…..the location and who was buried there…..ugh!! I still cannot come to grips with the fact that the writers went there……debauchery!!!!!!!!!
I don’t want to sound like a bible-thumper because I’m not. I could never impose my beliefs or ideals on others….just stating a fact, that’s all. I get passion, I get attraction so strong , one could lift a building. I don’t get the attraction without love….or with two people who basically hate each other. It’s one thing to fantasize, it’s another to put that perversion in writing.
Now that Anna is back, you are so right….she needs a place of her own to call home. She needs to follow her instincts until the ground beneath her feet is not wobbly anymore. I am sure she has hound herself during her absence….let’s see what she does with this newfound freedom.

Hi Cee Cee…re: comments by Su, Rebecca1, you and even Harry about romance. I think we all have our own definitions of what we mean by romance. Hate to speak for others, but I think you, Rebecca1, and I are more traditionalists. Not sure about Harry, but I think he can be a softie because of other things he’s said, even though he gets frustrated by Su.
But in this case I’m taking Su at her word about how she feels about soap romances as tv has shown them because she’s mostly consistent in how she’s described it before…such as campy, sappy, phony sex. And it can be. Plus attraction can be instantaneous, but to get to true romance it can move at a slower pace…and we know how she seems to like action/mob/badboy parts of stories best. Su probably would have liked how Felicia/Frisco and Anna/Robert originally “hooked up.” Adventures, action, criminals, and humor before they discovered they actually were attracted to each other.
But I wonder if she “doth protest too loudly” (down deep)…she likes Franco and Nina’s relationship/romance. Maybe even Sonny and Carly. And recently even those of us who believe in a little romance have been put off…Shay towards Alexis. Yes I think she and Julian have a connection, but all they seem to show is the lusty stuff. And for me, Dante and Veronica. Not “grief sex” as Su might call it, but “poor me” sex? Easy for any age to want to ff this kind of “romance.”

I want the “friendship” and specialness that was between Robert/anna/Frisco/Felicia /Tony/Bobbie /Holly/sean/Tiff. These people aren’t on anymore so don’t know how that works. But I really loved the relationships these people had with each other and don’t see that among any body anymore. Real connections just aren’t there. How to change that, don’t know but that is what I wish. Maybe Patrick and anna could have a real conversation as could Felicia…(woudn’t it be fun if Felicia told anna she made a mistake, Mac was too boring and cleaning the bar was the pits””)

Have to admit that the notion of Anna realizing she has surpressed her lesbian genes and getting together with any # of incredible women “of a certain age” makes a lot of sense. Laura, Tracie, Felicia (all right she’s too dumb), Alexis (or Ava if she wants to pursue her penchant for someone on the other side of the law) –she’d have a much better chance of finding her equal than with any of their male counterparts (I mean really,line up those women and then line up Julian, Sonny, Scottie, Mac, and ???) Why would any of those incredible women give the men their age the time of day? At least Ava showed some honesty–if your peers are all losers go for the hot boy toy.
And maybe that’s the solution–these incredible women (and no one under 30 need apply–my God–Kiki, Sabrina, Maxie and Lulu are just not in the same league) form a coven or at least a salon. And they develop a he-ram of boytoys for their pleasure (Morgan, Nathan, Dante and Michael if they are into the somebody kicked the puppy look). We could alternate between scenes of scintellating conversation and soft core porn–a soap with someting for everyone.
Elizabeth and Sam could accept their differences (and realize how stupid they have been to compromise their character over the years over some guy (usually Jason) and sign up for the goddesses training program.) Sorry Carly, you have shown no capacity for friendship or respecting your fellow females in Port Charles so you are out. Monica and Bobbie could go for crone/ wise woman status (so long as they take the no further botox pledge). And Patrick, Nicholas and Jake(son) could be he-ram elders for women who want to have something to actually talk about after sex. Franco could sign on as court jester. Obrecht only comes out when someone wants a dominatrix for role playing fun. And Felix could step forward as someone who has something to say once he is freed from being imprisoned as everyone’s sassy gay friend.

Which is more than will be said of the mercifully departing Alexis…..I’ve been so waiting to see the back of her (as opposed to the usual front…) and even though the respite will be but a brief one whilst NLG takes her girls (and daughters, too!) on a trip to Ireland, I shall enjoy every moment of her absence. Of course, this temporary leave came at a cost, as once again we were subjected to yet another raunchy romp with Julian before Ms. Davis hit the road. How utterly predictable….I do trust this goodbye round of rumpy-pumpy will portend a new romantic direction for Mr. Jerome. It should be only a matter of time before he and the mother of his latest child, the beauteous, blooming Olivia, get on the same page in terms of their parental relationship which will hopefully grow into so much more!!! As for Alexis, she should stay gone, along with her constantly condescending tone, pseudo-intellectual eyeglasses, Lhasa Apso hairdo and highly inappropriate, ill-fitting, cleavage-heaving attire. Why this woman was never found in contempt of court by some judge for her lusty legalista slagwear is beyond me!

Uggg…Harry, I hate to disagree again but I do so with the utmost affection! Alexis has gone for the good-bad guy for years. She stumbled and fumbled her way into Sonny’s bed years ago…and tried to fight her school girl crush on him before she succumbed. The difference is they had more time spent bantering and flirting and less time in the bedroom. I think, in an effort to level the playing ground and show mature women in sexual relationships, they tilted the scale too far and haven’t portrayed A & J’s emotional connection. If they continue with this couple and develop their intellectual rapport, inject a little humor, witty repartee which both characters can deliver, I think they’d be Great ogether.
It is simply off-the-wall for me to put women of a certain age in such a yucky display. It is not titillating watching a woman who cannot even strip down to her unmentionables because of her aging body. She was wearing some kind of contraption….armor, or sheath?…..as I previously mentioned to Shay. The scene was not appetizing…indecent, for a more-than-middle-aged-woman. She is the only woman on this show, of her age, that makes love and sex seem tawdry and wrong, somehow. I can’t put my finger on it. In comparison, Anna and Sloane were so sweet!!

I still cannot settle, within myself, the fact that Julian seduced her at sixteen, when he looks so much younger than she. I’m not a huge Robin fan since she was a kid…she just was soooo serious and ernest. And Kimberly’s comings and goings the last few years haven’t helped. Reminds be of how ABC/GH bent over for Tony.
But I do agree with other commenters that Anna and Robert would never have stopped searching high and low for Robin, kicked b*tt with Faison and the Cassidine’s, and got Robin back home to her family. Like when they teamed up to free Duke from O’s clinic.
On the other hand, I would have expected more from an obviously smart and enterprising Robin, the daughter of Robin and Robert after all, to get home on her own. Never sure if she really wanted to on a long term basis..in this way she may be like Anna and Robert when she was growing up.
Don’t mind Anna finding another MAN, eventually. But it will have to be a really strong story and guy to pull it off for me.

You know, Fanny, some of us admire Michelle/Nina, some of us completely dislike her. Disagreeing and debating is a very good thing. Exchanging thoughts, whether we agree or not, is what gives these sites pulse. And, as you know, Shay’s writing thrills me to no end, regardless of our sometime difference of opinion.
Yes, Nina’s vulnerability grips my heart. But, Fanny, I have a girl-crush on Michelle….for fifteen years….LOL. So, I sort of look up to her.
